1. 0:00you did have to enter a plea following
2. 0:02this incident which led to you uh facing
3. 0:04some legal ramifications in going to
4. 0:07jail I believe for 90 days in your wife
5. 0:09face some punishment as well you still
6. 0:12maintain to this day however that this
7. 0:14entire incident was not a hoax yet you
8. 0:16did enter a guilty plea uh tell us
9. 0:19exactly the thought process that went
10. 0:21into you taking that plea uh back x
11. 0:24amount of years ago when this balloon
12. 0:25boy incident happened uh sure yeah my
13. 0:27wife and I sat down with our attorney d
14. 0:30Lane down in Denver and uh he he said
15. 0:35that they've offered a plea bargain and
16. 0:38um he said it was his advice to take the
17. 0:41plea deal uh he said the uh the public
18. 0:45opinion was against us and he said that
19. 0:47the chances of you win is going to be
20. 0:48slim to none and then he told me before
21. 0:50I made my decision to go look up a case
22. 0:53uh and lar M County uh he told me to
23. 0:57look up Tim Masters because he was
24. 0:59currently suing lar M County uh for $10
25. 1:02million because they uh wrongfully
26. 1:05imprisoned Tim Masters uh there was a
27. 1:08cop there Lieutenant bradrick that uh
28. 1:10perjured himself on 48 counts to get
29. 1:13this guy put away for 10 years in prison
30. 1:14for a murder he never committed so I
31. 1:17went home I looked it up and I got it I
32. 1:20get it you know you know they they they
33. 1:22put this guy away for 10 years uh they
34. 1:25lied on their affidavits and which is
35. 1:27exactly what happened to us so I said
36. 1:29you know fine I'll take the plea deal
37. 1:31and then uh of course we left so years
38. 1:34later you know people have just
39. 1:36basically accepted this as fact as being
40. 1:39a hoax for many years you to this day
41. 1:41say that's not the case I don't believe
42. 1:43you were allowed to speak for some time
43. 1:44as a result of your punishment that you
44. 1:46had to face as a result of this whole
45. 1:48ordeal going uh going along so all these
46. 1:52years later if someone says to you it's
47. 1:55a hoax you just say flat out that's not
48. 1:56true they're wrong yeah yeah exactly I
49. 1:59mean the the thing is is um the uh media
50. 2:02Sheriff uh you know got in front
51. 2:05of the cameras uh as many times as he
52. 2:07could uh he came out and basically said
53. 2:10we were guilty before any evidence as a
54. 2:12matter of fact they didn't have any
55. 2:13evidence whatsoever but uh and if you
56. 2:16notice he directed the charge back
57. 2:18toward him it was attempting to
58. 2:20influence the public official I didn't
59. 2:22know who this guy was and so basically
60. 2:25the charge that he that they trumped up
61. 2:28was uh
62. 2:30uh it it was more of an ego thing toward
63. 2:33him I would have had to premeditate and
64. 2:35know this guy to get that kind of a
65. 2:38charge attempting to influence a public
66. 2:40official that that's crazy but uh anyway
67. 2:43like I said I get the joke you know and
68. 2:45uh fine I just move
69. 2:47on now you weren't allowed to speak
70. 2:49about this for many years are you glad
71. 2:51that that has been lifted at this point
72. 2:52and you're allowed to speak freely oh
73. 2:54yeah definitely um yeah for four years I
74. 2:57couldn't say anything uh as a matter of
75. 2:58fact I went on the the Today's Show uh
76. 3:01speaking uh what was on my mind I said
77. 3:04that they were lying and uh then the
78. 3:06sheriff and of the both uh threatened to
79. 3:09withdraw from plea which would have
80. 3:11meant I would have had to go to trial
81. 3:13and uh again my my attorney said there's
82. 3:16no way you're going to find a jury
83. 3:18member anywhere that doesn't believe it
84. 3:20you know to be what they say it was in
85. 3:23retrospect do you think that making the
86. 3:24appearances on CNN in the Today's Show
87. 3:27and even previously being on some
88. 3:28reality TV shows hurt you to some
89. 3:31degree uh that I don't know um I never
90. 3:35evaluated it uh quite frankly we don't
91. 3:37watch a lot of TV uh in our household
