Full transcript

1. 0:00We turn now to Washington and some hot
2. 0:01water for a high-profile New York
3. 0:04congressman. A link to a lewd photo was
4. 0:06sent out early Saturday morning on
5. 0:07Congressman Anthony Weiner's Twitter
6. 0:09account. He says the account was hacked
7. 0:11and calls the whole thing a prank, but
8. 0:13he faced some tough questions at a
9. 0:14contentious press conference on Capitol
10. 0:16Hill late yesterday. John Carl covers
11. 0:18Capitol Hill for us. And John, the
12. 0:20congressman kept getting pressed. Was it
13. 0:21his photo? And did he send it?
14. 0:24Well, that is the question. George
15. 0:25Anthony Weiner is a Democratic
16. 0:27congressman who is known for his
17. 0:29ambitious his passionate speeches on the
18. 0:31House floor and for his ambitions to be
19. 0:33New York's next mayor, but he now finds
20. 0:35himself at this at the middle of this
21. 0:37bizarre controversy.
22. 0:39Okay. How can I help you?
23. 0:40It wasn't the most convincing press
24. 0:42conference.
25. 0:43I am not going to permit myself to be
26. 0:45distracted by this issue any longer. You
27. 0:47do the questions, I do the answers, and
28. 0:49this jackass interrupts me.
29. 0:50Answer the question. Was it from you or
30. 0:52not? Look, this was a prank that I've
31. 0:55now been talking about for a couple of
32. 0:56days.
33. 0:57The controversy started at 11:30 p.m.
34. 0:59Friday night when a lewd picture of a
35. 1:02man's underwear was tweeted from
36. 1:04Congressman Weiner's account. This
37. 1:0621-year-old Seattle college student's
38. 1:08Twitter name was in the message. The
39. 1:10photo was quickly deleted, but not
40. 1:12before it was posted for all to see. As
41. 1:15for the student, she was one of almost
42. 1:17200 people Weiner was following on
43. 1:19Twitter, although she says she's never
44. 1:21met him and never actually saw the lewd
45. 1:24photo. But did Representative Weiner,
46. 1:26who is married, send the photo,
47. 1:28intending it as a private message to the
48. 1:30college student? Weiner has not directly
49. 1:32answered that question, but he claims
50. 1:34his account was hacked. As easy as it is
51. 1:37to make a mistake on Twitter, all it
52. 1:38takes is one wrong click. It's not that
53. 1:41much harder to uh break into someone's
54. 1:44Twitter account.
55. 1:44Weer is one of the most colorful members
56. 1:46of Congress known for his outbursts.
57. 1:49The gentleman will sit. The gentleman is
58. 1:52correct in sitting
59. 1:54and his humor.
60. 1:55By the way, uh I I do the wiener jokes
61. 1:57around here, guys. And uh
62. 2:00and really like who is Boehner fooling?
63. 2:02What am I like Anthony Wayer? But with
64. 2:04this controversy, the congressman's
65. 2:06answers have only raised more questions.
66. 2:08I'm not going to be giving any.
67. 2:10The biggest question here is if his
68. 2:12account was attack was hacked, why has
69. 2:14he not reported it to law enforcement?
70. 2:16George, that's the question. It's one he
71. 2:18hasn't answered. Technology experts say
72. 2:20that if it if he was hacked, it would be
73. 2:22very easy to determine by taking a look
74. 2:23at his account.
75. 2:24That's right. And it's pretty clear the
76. 2:25congressman just wants this whole thing
77. 2:26to go away. At that press conference
78. 2:28yesterday afternoon, he kept saying,
79. 2:28"I'm here to talk about the debt limit.
80. 2:30That's what I want to talk about, the
81. 2:31big issues that people care about." And
82. 2:33and there's no indication at all that
83. 2:35the ethics committee or anyone else in
84. 2:37Congress is going to be investigating
85. 2:38this, right?
86. 2:39There's absolutely no indication.
87. 2:40Capital police say they have not been
88. 2:42contacted about this and have not in
89. 2:44initiated an investigation. Nothing
90. 2:46underway right now, although Weiner has
91. 2:48hired a lawyer. Okay, John call.
