  1. 0:00Hey there, and welcome to Ryan's demo,
  2. 0:01where I'll explain how interior
  3. 0:02designers and architects use Ryan to
  4. 0:04create full architectural drawing sets
  5. 0:06faster than ever. In this walkthrough,
  6. 0:08we'll explore all the features that set
  7. 0:09Ryan apart from other design software.
  8. 0:11We'll start with its all-in-one design
  9. 0:12to presentation workflow. You'll see how
  10. 0:14you can go from technical, accurate
  11. 0:16design to stylized, beautiful, client
  12. 0:19ready presentations with mood boards and
  13. 0:21more. We'll take a look at how you can
  14. 0:22add metadata onto your drawing set,
  15. 0:24making Ryan more than just a drafting
  16. 0:26tool, but where you can actually manage
  17. 0:27your schedules, specifications, and
  18. 0:30aggregate information with just a few
  19. 0:31clicks. We'll also explore Ryan's block
  20. 0:33library containing more than 10K blocks
  21. 0:35in top, front, and side views for
  22. 0:37sections and elevations that you can
  23. 0:39drag and drop directly in your drawings.
  24. 0:40Last, but not least, we'll see how
  25. 0:42Ryan's web-based nature enables teams to
  26. 0:44collaborate in real time in the browser,
  27. 0:46speeding up their workflow and improving
  28. 0:48communication across all stakeholders.
  29. 0:50So, let's dive in to see how all these
  30. 0:52features come together to help you
  31. 0:53create polished, professional, perfect
  32. 0:55architectural drawing sets faster than
  33. 0:57ever with Rayon.
  34. 0:59[Music]
  35. 1:00So, we're starting off by just reviewing
  36. 1:02a typical drawing set made in Rayon. And
  37. 1:04you'll see that this includes, you know,
  38. 1:06site plans, floor plans, mood boards,
  39. 1:09elevations, uh, details. You can really
  40. 1:11create any type of documentation you're
  41. 1:13looking to create. And typically, it all
  42. 1:15starts from an import. You can import
  43. 1:17DWG, DXF, PDF and images into Trion and
  44. 1:20then redesign them and also draw from
  45. 1:23scratch of course. So let's see how this
  46. 1:26would be done for this project. I'll go
  47. 1:28to our layer panel. And here in Ron the
  48. 1:31way we work is we have multiple what we
  49. 1:33call canvases. This is the paper canvas
  50. 1:35where I create my presentation. And in
  51. 1:38the model canvases I draw my building,
  52. 1:41my apartment, my design detail. Uh so as
  53. 1:43you can see here we have site plans in
  54. 1:45one model, floor plan in another,
  55. 1:47elevations, design details, FF any uh
  56. 1:50boards. Um and I also have here an
  57. 1:53import file that I've prepared for you
  58. 1:55and for the sake of this demo. So this
  59. 1:57is maybe how uh you know beginning
  60. 2:00starting point looks like when you
  61. 2:02import a file in RAM. Once you import a
  62. 2:04DWG or a PDF, they're going to become
  63. 2:07vector lines that you can then edit. uh
  64. 2:09if it's a DWG, you're even going to
  65. 2:11inherit all the layers your DWG had and
  66. 2:14the blocks. So, you're starting off at a
  67. 2:16very comfortable and flexible point to
  68. 2:18uh draw your project. Now, let's uh zoom
  69. 2:20into this drawing and see how you can
  70. 2:23use Ryan's different tools uh to reedit
  71. 2:26a floor for plan. So, on the bottom
  72. 2:28here, you're going to find what we call
  73. 2:30drawing and editing tools. Uh some of
  74. 2:32them are the classic tools that you know
  75. 2:34from other design software like
  76. 2:36polyline, line, rectangle, um guideline
  77. 2:39and so on and so forth. You also have
  78. 2:41editing tools. So offset, trim, mirror,
  79. 2:44fillet, all these classic tools are
  80. 2:46available here. You're also going to
  81. 2:47find here obviously dimensions, leaders,
  82. 2:50arrows, text, everything you need to
  83. 2:52convey information. And before we dive
  84. 2:54in, I just want to make it very clear
  85. 2:55that you're drawing precisely in round.
  86. 2:57Even though you're going to get your
  87. 2:59drawing to a very high-end rendered and
  88. 3:01beautiful presentation, it all starts
  89. 3:03with a nitty-gritty uh you know
  90. 3:06wireframe grid kind of drawing where
  91. 3:08you're drawing to a tea. So I always
  92. 3:10like to activate these um to make
  93. 3:12everyone coming from other design tool
  94. 3:14realize that it's as accurate as what
  95. 3:17they know. Alongside the wireframe in
  96. 3:19grid mode, you're going to find here are
  97. 3:21snapping of course. Um and then also
  98. 3:23there is ran units. You can change
  99. 3:25between metric to imperial, millimeters
  100. 3:28to feet and inches. Everything can be
  101. 3:30done here including changing the
  102. 3:32precision and editing the suffix and
  103. 3:34such. So now that we have that
  104. 3:35established, I'll disable the wireframe
  105. 3:39in grid mode.
  106. 3:40[Music]
  107. 3:43And let's continue reviewing the bottom
  108. 3:45toolbar to the part we didn't get to
  109. 3:47yet, which is what we call the light
  110. 3:49beam features of RAM. So here you're
  111. 3:51going to find uh walls, zones, openings
  112. 3:54and instead of drawing with line work,
  113. 3:56rand enables you to draw uh wall
  114. 3:58entities actually. So instead of you
  115. 4:01know drawing walls and then offsetting
  116. 4:03them and so on and so forth, this is
  117. 4:05more of a streamlined kind of process
  118. 4:07helping you draw wall enclosures faster.
  119. 4:10These of are of course editable and they
  120. 4:13snap and they just give you the dynamic
  121. 4:15flexibility that you need. Uh so just to
  122. 4:18demonstrate this you can see how you can
  123. 4:21change the wall here and of course you
  124. 4:23can be also very intentional uh and use
  125. 4:25the unit input. So let's do centimeters.
  126. 4:28All right. The other thing about these
  127. 4:30walls is that you can edit the style.
  128. 4:32And actually it's not just for walls.
  129. 4:33It's for different entities on the
  130. 4:34canvas. I'll select these to show you an
  131. 4:37example. Uh once I select these walls on
  132. 4:40the right there's going to be the style
  133. 4:42panel that appears. From here I can
  134. 4:44change wall thicknesses. Let's do this
  135. 4:46maybe less actually 15 cm. Um we can
  136. 4:50change the wall fill uh and look. So
  137. 4:53currently it has this hatch and in RAM
  138. 4:55for styling we have inapp hatches. We
  139. 4:58have inapp textures and of course you
  140. 5:00can choose any color. All of these can
  141. 5:02be customized. So scale the color can be
  142. 5:05changed. The rotation point opacity
  143. 5:08things that you typically would do as a
  144. 5:10afterthought of your drawing when you
  145. 5:12try to uh beautify it. Let's say that
  146. 5:15way. um are done directly as we draw
  147. 5:17here which makes it very very efficient.
  148. 5:19So for now let's go for maybe this just
  149. 5:21solid color and say that we like the
  150. 5:23style. We can also save our styles to
  151. 5:25create a style library. So clicking on
  152. 5:28the plus button I'll call this um
  153. 5:30internal wall um you can call this of
  154. 5:33course you know internal Gibson give a
  155. 5:35spec of its width and so on and so
  156. 5:36forth. And once you do that you are
  157. 5:39curating a style library. So as you can
  158. 5:41see here I have few typical type of
  159. 5:44walls that I use across my models and I
  160. 5:46can summon the walls and change the
  161. 5:47style with one click and also edit the
  162. 5:49styles across my model uh in batch which
  163. 5:52is very handy. Let's choose this style
  164. 5:54for now. And the next thing I want to
  165. 5:56show you is the zone tool. So once you
  166. 5:59use the rand walls you'll see that you
  167. 6:01can add zones with just a click within
  168. 6:03wall enclosures. This is super handy
  169. 6:06because the zone detects the shape of
  170. 6:08your wall enclosure and gives you a tag
  171. 6:10with its square meter count
  172. 6:11automatically. And we're going to talk
  173. 6:12about how this um automatic square meter
  174. 6:15count is going to come in handy when we
  175. 6:17create schedules. But for now, we can
  176. 6:19leave it uh like this. Again, here you
  177. 6:21can definitely change the style of the
  178. 6:23zone. Let's show some of the textures we
  179. 6:25have in Rayon. Um so this can be, you
  180. 6:28know, a wood texture, chevron, cement,
  181. 6:30tile, gravel, anything you'd like. uh
  182. 6:32for now just for the demonstration maybe
  183. 6:34let's add this wood and again everything
  184. 6:36is scalable and editable. You can be
  185. 6:39even more precise if you have an open
  186. 6:41space and you want to divide the zone in
  187. 6:43two. You have a zone divider enabling
  188. 6:45you to add multiple zones in one open
  189. 6:48space just as an example. Now that you
  190. 6:49get the gist of it, let's jump into a
  191. 6:51more advanced floor plan that's been
  192. 6:53processed already. All right, so as you
  193. 6:55can see we've put in a bit of work and
  194. 6:57our model can become something like
  195. 6:59this. Uh, we've edited the style, the
  196. 7:02walls, added hatches, and we've also
  197. 7:04added some libraries. I want to
  198. 7:06introduce you to Ran's block library.
  199. 7:07So, I'll just um pan to this um living
  200. 7:10room area, and let's dive into the block
  201. 7:12library to populate this living room.
  202. 7:14You can find the block library on the
  203. 7:16top left. And RAN's block libraries
  204. 7:18contains 10K blocks from front, side,
  205. 7:21and top views for sections, elevations,
  206. 7:23and floor plans. You'll see here a
  207. 7:25variety of use cases. You can find
  208. 7:28technical symbols like lighting, HCAV uh
  209. 7:31and others and furnishing even people
  210. 7:34and accessories. You'll also note that
  211. 7:36you can curate your own personal
  212. 7:38libraries using RAM and import DWG
  213. 7:40blocks and existing blocks that you have
  214. 7:42or create new ones in RAM uh like I do
  215. 7:45here. You have organization level
  216. 7:48libraries which is libraries that you
  217. 7:50can share with your team to make sure
  218. 7:51everyone is using a standardized uh
  219. 7:53repository of libraries. And then here
  220. 7:55are the W ones I was mentioning. Let's
  221. 7:58use a search bar to show you a few
  222. 8:00options. So I like to show the technical
  223. 8:02symbols just to start off with. Um I'll
  224. 8:05go to the libraries tab. And there you
  225. 8:07go. So you see we have here electrical,
  226. 8:09HVAC, lighting symbols, plumbing
  227. 8:11symbols, safety symbols. So these really
  228. 8:13come in handy when you're creating
  229. 8:14technical drawings. But alongside these,
  230. 8:17you know, technical symbols, you also
  231. 8:19have lighting fixtures and furniture.
  232. 8:21Let's look for a nice configuration for
  233. 8:23this living room. I'll search for a
  234. 8:24lounge and note that you can search for
  235. 8:27either a room configuration like lounge,
  236. 8:29bedroom, bathroom or an item of course
  237. 8:31like chair, sink and so on and so forth.
  238. 8:33So this is just an example of the
  239. 8:36multiple blocks that we haven't ran. And
  240. 8:38you can already see that there is this
  241. 8:40family tag indicating that they also
  242. 8:42have their views in front inside. So
  243. 8:44I'll show you how to use that in just a
  244. 8:46bit. But for now, let's drag and drop a
  245. 8:47top view onto our canvas. And there you
  246. 8:50go. The blocks are of course already
  247. 8:52scaled and can be edited. If I double
  248. 8:54click them, I can choose to move them
  249. 8:56around, scale them, rotate them. I can
  250. 8:59even copy or delete some and so on and
  251. 9:01so forth. You can also add some specific
  252. 9:04materials. So, if you're doing a very
  253. 9:06detailed um presentation of your
  254. 9:09drawing, you can add materials, colors.
  255. 9:12All right. Now, let's see how this block
  256. 9:13would look in side or front view. Just
  257. 9:16as an example, I'll copy this block and
  258. 9:18place it right here. and then go to its
  259. 9:21definition on the right and change it to
  260. 9:23the view I'm looking for. In this case,
  261. 9:24it's going to be this one for example.
  262. 9:29So to create sections becomes really
  263. 9:31faster when you have this repository. We
  264. 9:33can also jump to the elevation canvas
  265. 9:37right here
  266. 9:40and see that we've used some of our
  267. 9:42blocks here as well. So um window
  268. 9:44blocks, door blocks um and also yes
  269. 9:46people blocks uh can be also placed in
  270. 9:49front and side views in RAM. All right.
  271. 9:51So after we've imported a file in RAN,
  272. 9:53redesigned it and stylized it, added
  273. 9:55blocks, we're ready to add information
  274. 9:57to our drawing. So this is where RAN is
  275. 10:00more than just a drafting tool, but
  276. 10:01actually where you can manage data in
  277. 10:03your project. So let's see how our table
  278. 10:05tool works in RAN. You can use the table
  279. 10:08tool for multiple use cases. You can
  280. 10:10find it on the left right here. And the
  281. 10:13first thing that's going to happen when
  282. 10:14you create a table is you're going to
  283. 10:16get a list of all the elements on your
  284. 10:18canvas. These can be your walls, your
  285. 10:20blocks, your surfaces. So you can use
  286. 10:22this for doing FFN schedules. You can
  287. 10:25use this for doing takeoff reports and
  288. 10:26specifications, feasibility studies, and
  289. 10:29more. So let's review how you can add
  290. 10:31information onto furniture blocks and
  291. 10:33quantify them using tables. The first
  292. 10:35thing I want to do is click on the three
  293. 10:37dots and filter my categories. What I
  294. 10:40want to leave here is just the block
  295. 10:42instances, which are the different
  296. 10:44windows, doors, elements I have on my
  297. 10:46canvas. Now, let's add information onto
  298. 10:49these three beds in this residential
  299. 10:51project. If you have larger projects,
  300. 10:53you can do this at scale, of course.
  301. 10:56I'll start by uh right clicking one
  302. 10:58block and go to select similar and same
  303. 11:01block. This will automatically save all
  304. 11:03the blocks I have on my canvas from the
  305. 11:06same type. And on the bottom right, I'll
  306. 11:08find their metadata properties. Some of
  307. 11:11our blocks uh in rand have default
  308. 11:13metadata properties. You can already see
  309. 11:14here we have brand and category. Uh we
  310. 11:17can leave the category in bed. Let's
  311. 11:19change the brand from generic to IKEA,
  312. 11:22for example. All right. Now, we can also
  313. 11:24add more properties onto our blocks by
  314. 11:27going to the add property tag. And
  315. 11:29you'll find some default properties by
  316. 11:30RAM. For example, we can add the price
  317. 11:33property. Um, we can also create custom
  318. 11:36properties. For example, material uh
  319. 11:38property that we'll click on the plus
  320. 11:40button. Let's do material. Uh, and then
  321. 11:43the type can be text, number, length,
  322. 11:46volume, and more.
  323. 11:49All right. Now, let's add other than the
  324. 11:51brand of these beds, their price. Uh,
  325. 11:53you can change the currency, by the way,
  326. 11:55in your main menu. Let's mark each bed
  327. 11:57at €1,000.
  328. 12:00And for material, I think this one is a
  329. 12:03bit redundant for these beds, but
  330. 12:04basically, if you're doing takeoff
  331. 12:06reports for finishes, specs, this is
  332. 12:08where you can add tile, wood, and so on
  333. 12:10and so forth. So, now that we have these
  334. 12:13few properties, let's go back to our
  335. 12:15table and add them onto the table
  336. 12:17itself. You can see here is where we can
  337. 12:19find those properties like price and
  338. 12:24brand.
  339. 12:27and we get a sum of all the in this case
  340. 12:29three beds we have here, their price,
  341. 12:31their count. We can add more information
  342. 12:34and then we can export this table into
  343. 12:35an Excel sheet and rework it with our
  344. 12:38project manager or clients. And again,
  345. 12:40this is super useful and need to
  346. 12:42quantify things with just a few clicks.
  347. 12:44Other than these types of tables, you
  348. 12:45can also make informative sheets with
  349. 12:48visualizations. So your material
  350. 12:51visualization, some text to describe it,
  351. 12:53uh mood boards that will help your
  352. 12:54clients understand your design intent.
  353. 12:57Uh so these are all images that were
  354. 12:59brought directly onto the RAM canvas.
  355. 13:01Because we're working in a web-based uh
  356. 13:03tool, you can literally copy paste
  357. 13:05images from across uh the web into RAM.
  358. 13:08Let's do an example with Pinterest.
  359. 13:15All right, let's paste this image on our
  360. 13:17canvas.
  361. 13:19And I want you to know that Ran also has
  362. 13:20AI features that help you uh create your
  363. 13:23mood boards. So when you click on an
  364. 13:25image and edit it, if you brought in a
  365. 13:27pixelized image, maybe one that you took
  366. 13:29on site, you can upscale it. In this
  367. 13:31case, it's pretty nice resolution. In
  368. 13:33this case, I think the background is
  369. 13:34nice and I want to keep it in board. So
  370. 13:37we can just scale this and place it
  371. 13:39directly on.
  372. 13:45So, now that we're pretty much happy and
  373. 13:48got to kind of the final step of
  374. 13:50creating our floor plans, adding, you
  375. 13:52know, uh, mill work, materials,
  376. 13:54information, we might be ready to set up
  377. 13:57our presentation. So, I'll go back to
  378. 13:59our paper canvas. And just a quick
  379. 14:01reminder, I've placed all of my
  380. 14:03different design documentation and
  381. 14:04drawings on different canvases and then
  382. 14:06aggregated them in a paper canvas. I
  383. 14:09want to show you how to create sheets
  384. 14:11and add your drawings at different
  385. 14:12scales. So, for that, I want to
  386. 14:14introduce Ray's page and view tool. The
  387. 14:18page tool is pretty straightforward. I'm
  388. 14:20just going to select the page and add it
  389. 14:21onto my canvas. Uh, I can then set its
  390. 14:24size on the right. So, let's leave it at
  391. 14:26uh let's change it to A3 to match the
  392. 14:29other sheets on our drawing.
  393. 14:32Now, I may want to reference a drawing
  394. 14:34at different scales on this sheet. So,
  395. 14:36the way to do that is use a viewport in
  396. 14:39RAN. A viewport will offer you a sneak
  397. 14:42peek into one of your other model
  398. 14:44canvases which you can select on the
  399. 14:47right. In this case, maybe let's add a
  400. 14:49zoom in of one of our floor plans. So,
  401. 14:52we'll go to floor plans and double click
  402. 14:55it to edit its scale right here.
  403. 14:59All right. Some things you can do with
  404. 15:01views is override their layers and their
  405. 15:04styles. And this is handy if you're
  406. 15:06creating, for example, construction and
  407. 15:08demolition floor plans and you need the
  408. 15:09same walls to be in different colors or
  409. 15:12if you want to use one stacked floor
  410. 15:14plans with layers and then represented
  411. 15:16each time in a different view. For
  412. 15:18example, right now we have our layer
  413. 15:21panel on the left representing the
  414. 15:23furnishing and flooring. We can hide
  415. 15:25this floor plan and then add the
  416. 15:28lighting floor plan. Uh and as you can
  417. 15:30see the view has changed. Uh then we can
  418. 15:33lock our zoom and we have a sheet with
  419. 15:36the lighting floor plan. We can grab a
  420. 15:38title block. In this case uh we have
  421. 15:40some on earth paper canvas. We can also
  422. 15:43find title blocks in rens block library.
  423. 15:45So you can either bring your own or
  424. 15:47customize ours uh for your business. If
  425. 15:50you wanted to highlight a specific area,
  426. 15:52for example, you can always crop your
  427. 15:54view by clicking down the command
  428. 15:56toolbar. And maybe let's highlight the
  429. 15:59lighting of the area of this drawing.
  430. 16:03I'm going to copy this view. And then we
  431. 16:06have one view at 1 to 100. The second
  432. 16:09view, I'll jump in there and change the
  433. 16:12view to a more detailed one.
  434. 16:16Maybe the kitchen.
  435. 16:21And that's it. Here I can add maybe a
  436. 16:23legend or more information that I want
  437. 16:25to convey regarding my lighting plan.
  438. 16:27Once my drawing set is ready, I'm going
  439. 16:29to find all my pages on the left panel
  440. 16:31pages. And this is where I'll check that
  441. 16:33my presentation is ready, exhaustive, my
  442. 16:36pages are in order, I can then either
  443. 16:38export my floor plan. So classic export,
  444. 16:41PDF or PNG. You can choose a range of
  445. 16:44pages and make sure that your drawing
  446. 16:45set is um ready. You have this
  447. 16:48magnifying glass to make sure that
  448. 16:50you're happy with the line weight and
  449. 16:51more. So, you can export that. And
  450. 16:53actually, Ryan offers another option
  451. 16:55because we're a web-based tool. You can
  452. 16:57share your presentation online which
  453. 16:59enables you to share a URL link to your
  454. 17:01stakeholders. So, clients, contractors,
  455. 17:04instead of exporting a PDF file and
  456. 17:06sending it via email, all you have to do
  457. 17:08is publish your presentation and copy
  458. 17:10the link. uh once you share it with
  459. 17:12them, they'll be able to review your
  460. 17:14presentation and it will be a live
  461. 17:17representation of your model. So there
  462. 17:19is no version control issues or uh
  463. 17:21confusion. So just walking through some
  464. 17:24of the pages we created, this is how the
  465. 17:26presentation mode will look. Other than
  466. 17:28that, the other benefits of being an
  467. 17:30online tool is the idea of being able to
  468. 17:32collaborate and invite teammates to work
  469. 17:34in real time. This is why RAN is great
  470. 17:36for teams working with architectural
  471. 17:38drawings. You can share your models with
  472. 17:41others. And in case you're an
  473. 17:42organization, you can have dedicated
  474. 17:44workspaces and resources to share for
  475. 17:46us. Here you can see that this model is
  476. 17:48shared with me only. I can add my team
  477. 17:51members. So Arthur, Nadia, anyone else,
  478. 17:54and determine who's going to be admin,
  479. 17:56editor, or viewer of my model. In this
  480. 17:58case, we can work together in real time,
  481. 18:00speeding up the process of creating
  482. 18:01these architectural drawing sets. We can
  483. 18:03also create libraries and templates
  484. 18:05enabling our team to work in a
  485. 18:07standardized uh stack of blocks and of
  486. 18:10styles and streamlining the whole
  487. 18:12process. So by just toggling these I can
  488. 18:14reproduce and really use easily the
  489. 18:16styles and blocks in this model across
  490. 18:18all of my other models. Let me show you
  491. 18:20how that looks like from the rand
  492. 18:21workspace. So we'll go to the main menu
  493. 18:24and visit the workspace. So just a brief
  494. 18:28overview. You'll find in rand you have
  495. 18:30personal projects. You can um choose
  496. 18:32your favorites. We have hundred of
  497. 18:34templates at your disposal to help you
  498. 18:37never start from scratch where you can
  499. 18:38take styles, the blocks, and more
  500. 18:41tutorials. And then if you do work as an
  501. 18:43organization, you'll find the workspaces
  502. 18:45that are shared across your team and
  503. 18:47help you streamline your work. Last but
  504. 18:49not least, note that we have various
  505. 18:51resources for you to get started with.
