0:07single day it's just so hard to get
0:11through it I just don't know how to get

0:28things did yes he played sports he
0:30played sports from the time he was five
0:32years old up until he was 17 and he was
0:37in basketball he was in baseball he was
0:39in football and loved NASCAR he and his
0:45dad went to the NASCAR races all the
0:47time
0:50loved sports he loved sports and he had
0:55he he was a good kid
0:58had two best friends and that's who he
1:03grew up with and still our friends with
1:05them today and there's nothing nothing
1:12that would have predicted any of this
1:15could have ever happened no nothing
1:18nothing in his childhood at all I would
1:23have never in a million years thought
1:24something like this could happen to him
1:27at all you didn't see things like him
1:30getting into fights no no no fighting he
1:35was quiet and he got along with people
1:40and he didn't start anything and he he
1:44was a perfect teenager tell you the
1:48truth he took not even Rebell he wanted
1:51to go to NASCAR Tech we made that
1:54possible for him what did he do after he
1:56finished school he worked at the
1:59dealership as service technician and was
2:02making good money and who loved it
2:05he bought a tool box
2:10he started lying his tools and enjoyed
2:17it he was doing well when and where did
2:22he meet Shannon they met and he liked
2:27her she liked him but it didn't I don't
2:31think that was love at first sight or
2:33anything they they took a little while
2:36and got I guess got to know each other
2:37and he know dated it was always a little
2:41a little strange that she always said a
2:46lot of things about Chris in front of me
2:48that I didn't like like this isn't the
2:53kind of person I would date he doesn't
2:58know how to do this or he doesn't know
3:01how to do that he looks like a skater
3:04boy look at his hair look how much stuff
3:09he puts on this hair it's just it was
3:10just on and on and on and I just got a
3:13bad feeling when they got married in

6:11are not compatible anymore
6:13and he was not happy anymore and I
6:17finally thought he's finally seen the
6:19light and I take it Chris had never been
6:22in trouble with the law never he's got
6:25one speeding ticket you didn't even know
6:26about that tell me what happened when
6:29they were reported missing what what did
6:31you find out how did you find out who
6:33told you I think Ronnie called me Ronnie
6:38called me and said that they're missing
6:40and I thought I don't believe it I
6:44didn't believe they were missing I
6:46believe that she was going to punish
6:49Chris she was just going to punish him
6:53take the girls and just punish him I had
6:55no idea have anything else Christopher
6:59called and said mom they're searching
7:03the house I said okay that's fine I mean
7:09and I still was not worried I had been I
7:13was not worried
7:14I just thought Shannon had run off with
7:16girls so walk me through the sequence of
7:22events over the next few days the jr.
7:24hasn't traveled to Colorado Ronnie did
7:27Ronnie did and I mean Christopher let
7:32everybody come in her phone is there her
7:36purse is there everything is there and
7:39but there's no kids and there's no
7:42Shannon and I still was I was not
7:47worried you know I thought she has just
7:51gone off and I'm gonna punish you for
7:54this and you can worry about me
7:56but when Christopher called us and he
8:00said I said do you want us to come down
8:03now he said tell Dad I need him tell Dad
8:07I need him to come down I said what
8:10about me and he said no mom just stay
8:11just send dad and he picked him up at
8:14the airport and they drove to the police
8:16station and Chris still didn't say
8:19anything to him nothing he had already
8:23been interrogated seven hours prior to
8:25that he had already let the police go
8:28into his home search everything he had
8:33and he was going in for another
8:35interrogation the next thing after five
8:38hours they called Ronnie and said that
8:42your son wants to talk to you before he
8:44tells us anything and that's when
8:47Kristopher broke down and cried and said
8:50I'm sorry dad he said I went into a rage
8:53and I killed her
8:55after she killed Cece and Bella and he
8:58found out where he is and then they
8:59wouldn't let him see him he couldn't see
9:02him and so he was going back to the
9:05airport when his public defender called
9:09him and told him to come back so and
9:11that's when Ronnie meant his public
9:13defender and so talked to her for a
9:20while
9:21and they kept in touch with us and let
9:26us know what's going on and then what
9:27was the next update that you got was it
9:29the next update I got was Ronnie called
9:35Jaime and told him they found their
9:38bodies and they rushed over here nobody
9:43told me anything until they walked
9:46through the door and they told me what
9:49happened and I just fell to the floor I
9:51just fell to the floor it was it was
9:56unbelievable it's been unbelievable ever
9:59since and what did his attorneys tell
10:06you about contact with him you know
10:08starting one with his rooms no contact
10:11everything is recorded no contact no
10:15letter-writing I didn't see the harm in

10:52they wouldn't let us talk to him about
10:54anything and then we had to talk to him
10:57through a screen and a phone
11:01and he just looked yeah he was crying I
11:07mean he he wasn't crying he was you
11:11could see the movement in his mouth that
11:12when I talked about Bella and I talked
11:15about Cece and the memorial service that
11:18we had for for them and he asked what
11:21kind of what pictures did we use and you
11:23know what was the song just you can see
11:26how he was trying to hold back tears
11:29what what day was that do you remember
11:32well we flew in on that Monday we flew
11:35in on Monday and we saw him Monday night
11:39and then the plea deal was on Tuesday so
11:42Monday night was when they when you
11:44wanted to talk to him yes yes and we
11:48weren't allowed and it would have it
11:51would have helped us so much to be able
11:55to talk to him I wouldn't have to go
11:57through all this now everything just
11:59seems to be shrouded in secrecy and and
12:02and just tell us what is going on let us
12:07ask Chris if it's okay if you talk to us
12:09I just don't like the way it was handled
12:12from the very beginning I don't like the
12:14way it was handled I want to save your
12:16life that's all we're just here we're
12:18going to save his life we don't we don't
12:23we want him to get life in prison it was
12:25like they already knew he was guilty and
12:27this was the end of it were you worried
12:30about the death penalty being a
12:31possibility no I didn't care about the
12:33death penalty nobody's gonna die in
12:36Colorado I don't think anyone has what
12:40one person Colorado is changing so I
12:47people stay on the on death row forever
12:50there was no I think he'd be safer on
12:55death row and her parents said they
12:58didn't want any more death so I don't
13:02see how the death penalty could have
13:03mattered all I want is the truth
13:06I just want the truth but that's it and
13:11I know Chris
13:14it would take responsibility and I guess
13:22maybe he is I don't know I don't know I
13:26just can't see him doing that what do
13:30you think the truth is about how Shannon
13:34Bella and Celeste I don't know anymore
13:38honestly I don't know his frame of mind
13:43and I don't know his frame of mind
13:45because why would you plead guilty to
13:49something you didn't do and that's all I
13:51want to know why would you plead guilty
13:54if you didn't do it if you told your dad
13:56you didn't do it and that's what I want
14:00to know and they said well you'll be
14:03you'll find all that out Christopher
14:05will talk to you when and after he's
14:09sentenced it'll isn't that too late then
14:11and it isn't too late what if he tells
14:13me no I didn't do it I just took this
14:16plea deal because they told me I was
14:17going to go to jail anyways I just want
14:20the truth all of us just want want the
14:23truth that's all but I would like to
14:25know what what triggered it how can a
14:29perfectly normal young man and he he's
14:33normal he was normal but he wasn't
14:35evaluated when he came in to the system
14:38he wasn't normal if you did this most
14:42people they're in it's bewildering to me
14:44it is it is absolutely how does this
14:47happen how did this happen and I go back
14:51in my mind thinking was there something
14:55I didn't pick up with on Chris but I
14:58can't think of anything except he was
15:00quiet it sounds like in your own mind
15:03you're unsure as to what happened yes
15:06have you
15:10have you reconciled the idea that he
15:13could have done all of this yes and that
15:17scares me to death
15:19it scares me to death to think that he
15:23could have done all of this and I don't
15:27want to go there I don't want to go
15:29there right now but in I don't see why
15:34he's pleading guilty
15:35I wouldn't I'd fight I'd fight to the
15:40end
15:40but then you asked yourself what a
15:45normal person put dispose of the bodies
15:50the way he did and I would have called
15:53911 if it happened like that what would
15:57you say to Chris right now if he were
15:59sitting here if we were by ourselves no
16:04I would say Christopher I need to know
16:08what happened that night I need to know
16:11what happened I've got I've got to I've
16:16got to get these thoughts out of my head
16:19I what I think could have happened but I
16:23need to know and I think in time he will
16:27tell me probably nothing you ever would
16:30have imagined it my first never never no
16:36and not not from the son that I raised
16:41and Ronnie raised in and our children
16:45you know we just we just did everything
16:50for them
16:51we worked for them and we wanted them to
16:55have a good good life good education and
16:58we stressed education and there they
17:04were both doing well I thought you know
17:08I mean marriages can be bad but you can
17:11get out of them and and go on but I
17:16don't know what was going through
17:17anybody's mind that night I mean I feel
17:22too much
17:23I definitely feel everything way too
17:25much and have a conscious the conscience
17:29that I just feel way too much what do
17:36you want to happen now what would you
17:37hope would happen now well I I want
17:44Chris to have his day in court I mean I
17:50need to know I mean I feel wonderful if
17:54I could talk to him and he could tell me
17:55what happened and then we can all go on
18:00but if he didn't do it
18:02if he did not do this then I need to I
18:06need to I need somebody to defend him I
18:08need someone to defend him if he did not
18:11do this do they have the evidence he's
18:17my son I got to do everything I've got
18:20to do everything I can to help to make
18:23sure that that he is defended properly
18:28but he said this is his decision so I
18:31don't know there's doubt I have doubt
18:35that he did I can't see that he did it I
18:40just cannot see him doing that as much
18:43as he loved his girls how do you do that
18:46I just don't see it I just can't see him
18:50doing it I just wanted to make sure that
18:53he has I just wanted a defense I wanted
18:56him to be defended and you haven't had
19:00any discussions with his attorneys about
19:02this no I asked them do you know what
19:08happened they said no we don't only
19:15person that knows what happened is Chris
19:18well then he's told you his story you
19:21know in the affidavit they said they
19:26would defend him if he wanted to to go
19:28forward but he said he didn't want to go
19:32forward the bottom line is you would
19:34have liked to have been part of
19:35discussion with me doesn't that's what I
19:38thought we were going down there for at
19:40least let us talk to him let us talk to
19:42him it would have made all the
19:44difference in the world if they would
19:46have just let us talk to him if he was
19:49going to do this what difference does it
19:51make who's who's listening but he has
19:55our love he has unconditional love I
19:57will never abandon my son he did a
20:00horrible horrible if that comes to pass
20:04that he did this then I still love him
20:08he's my son and I will always love him
20:12and a lot of people don't understand
20:14that and I don't understand that why
20:15they don't well could you talk a little
20:19bit about some things we talked about
20:21yesterday he said you know I think I
20:23think your exact words were he's not the
20:25psychopath no he isn't he's not the
20:27sociopath next door he's not the
20:29psychopath
20:30he didn't kill little small animals he
20:32didn't do any of these things he was he
20:35was a good child I didn't see anything I
20:41didn't see anything that was abnormal
20:44about him except he was socially awkward
20:48you know he had trouble socializing but
20:52so did I when I was younger I think you
20:55learned that as you grow and I think he
20:58felt a little bit more comfortable and
21:00more comfortable in his skin and he he
21:04he just I don't think you just had the
21:08right person at his side I don't that
21:14relationship was toxic from the very
21:17beginning what would you say to
21:19Shannon's family if you talked to them
21:25god I'm so sorry this happened you know
21:30for both our families because we both
21:32lost everything
21:34you know they lost a daughter we lost
21:37our son
21:38we lost our grandchildren we all lost
21:43everybody did and
21:48it you'll never get it back and they
21:52were precious they were so so precious
