- 0:00Restart.
- 0:03>> All right. Hello Enzo. Thank you for
- 0:06coming back. How are you doing today?
- 0:09>> I'm doing well. How about yourself?
- 0:11>> I'm good. Um
- 0:13So,
- 0:14we talked a little bit last week about
- 0:17um some recent life changes. You
- 0:21had knee injuries. You um
- 0:24aren't in the part of the military
- 0:25anymore. And so now you're trying to
- 0:27kind of see what your next steps are. Um
- 0:31and see what where to go next and with
- 0:35your kids. You have your two kids in
- 0:37elementary school.
- 0:38So, I just wanted to see with um your
- 0:41diff like how you're feeling compared to
- 0:43last week. If there's been any changes,
- 0:45if there's been any
- 0:47new things that have come out.
- 0:50>> Yeah.
- 0:51Um
- 0:52Yeah, thanks for bringing those things
- 0:54up um and for remembering. Um I do
- 0:58I am feeling a bit more optimistic
- 1:00[clears throat]
- 1:01about things.
- 1:03Um
- 1:04I was, you know, rather disappointed. I
- 1:07feel my emotions were at first um you
- 1:11know, getting the best of me. But
- 1:14um you know, through the therapy and and
- 1:17through some of the VA resources, I have
- 1:20been um you know, kind of steered in the
- 1:23right direction and that's um been
- 1:25really helpful.
- 1:28>> That's great. Can you explain a little
- 1:31more to me about what kind of resources
- 1:33you've been introduced to?
- 1:35>> Yeah, so um
- 1:36>> [clears throat]
- 1:37>> the the VA has a program called um
- 1:41VR&E. It stands for Veteran
- 1:44Rehabilitation and Employment.
- 1:46And they are willing to uh essentially
- 1:51fund you for college um to
- 1:54It's uh sorry, Vocational rehabilitation
- 1:58and employment. So,
- 2:00essentially, you know, because of some
- 2:02of my disabilities, um, you know,
- 2:04physical and mental,
- 2:07I am able to, you know, use the VA to
- 2:09transition to a new vocation. So, I
- 2:12I initially wasn't aware of that and,
- 2:14um,
- 2:15I just really didn't have a plan and,
- 2:17um, so now that I'm aware of that and,
- 2:20you know, I've I put together a plan to
- 2:21go back to school.
- 2:23I'm feeling a little bit more at ease
- 2:26and they also, um, pay for housing and
- 2:29stuff, um, a little bit for you to, um,
- 2:33to to get through that. So,
- 2:35that's the biggest, um, resource that
- 2:37that's been of help to me. Um,
- 2:40yeah.
- 2:43>> Well, that's great. I'm glad you're able
- 2:44to kind of use the resources that you
- 2:47have and kind of reach out to people. It
- 2:50shows that you actively want to try to
- 2:54keep going and maybe
- 2:56a similar but different direction, kind
- 2:58of keep your military,
- 2:59um,
- 3:00life kind of around but still be able to
- 3:03find a new direction around that.
- 3:05Um,
- 3:06I wanted to ask about,
- 3:09um, well, first, do you mind if I jump
- 3:12to something else real quick?
- 3:14>> Absolutely.
- 3:15Yes.
- 3:17>> I know you mentioned, um, last week that
- 3:19you had
- 3:21pain in your legs. You kind of
- 3:24had a injury in your legs. I was
- 3:26wondering if you can explain to me how
- 3:28that progress has been.
- 3:29>> [clears throat]
- 3:31>> Yeah, that's been
- 3:32that's been a ongoing, um,
- 3:35issue. Um, you know, at first, it was,
- 3:38you know, rather, you know,
- 3:40not just painful but also, um, placed me
- 3:43in a in a kind of a lame,
- 3:45for lack of better terms, um, place
- 3:47where I wasn't able to, like, um,
- 3:50be the dad or the husband I wanted to
- 3:52be. I wasn't able to like go on the
- 3:54hikes
- 3:56and all those things, right? So, because
- 3:58of those,
- 3:59you know, limitations, it made me just
- 4:01feel like almost uh
- 4:03not fully um
- 4:06engaging and and just not able to be um
- 4:09you know, part of the family, so to
- 4:10speak. So, I just felt like, you know,
- 4:12I'd have to stay home when they all went
- 4:14out and had fun. So, just lost that
- 4:17connection with them, but
- 4:19um they you know, they are doing some
- 4:21injections um like cortisone kind of
- 4:25injections in my knees, so it's it's
- 4:27been alleviating the pain and and now
- 4:30I'm able to um
- 4:32you know, be mobile
- 4:33and I'm be more part of the family and
- 4:37and just, you know, helpful around the
- 4:39house and those kinds of things. So,
- 4:41um yeah, it's it's it's brought me to
- 4:44the place that I'm not so um
- 4:48you know, feeling like
- 4:50I don't know.
- 4:52Just, you know, a a not so good father
- 4:54or husband. I'm able to now
- 4:56be be a full active participant in the
- 4:59family and stuff. So,
- 5:01yeah, lots of positive
- 5:03um you know, progress there and, you
- 5:06know,
- 5:07I think I'll be all right.
- 5:10>> Yeah, well, that's great for you. I'm
- 5:12I'm glad that you're able to
- 5:15um
- 5:16kind of identify identify that those
- 5:18limitations were making you feel a
- 5:19certain way and kind of see your
- 5:21progress through it. Like you said,
- 5:23maybe you weren't able to do so many
- 5:25things with your family before and now
- 5:27you're kind of
- 5:29able to, which is great. How does that
- 5:31How does that make you feel going kind
- 5:33of from feeling like you're not a part
- 5:36of the family, like like you said, a
- 5:38little bit of lameness into kind of this
- 5:41fast progression into being able to be
- 5:44mobile again?
- 5:47>> Yeah, it feels great. Um
- 5:49it does, but it's weird feeling like it
- 5:51feels like um you know, like
- 5:54the fear of missing out um is not really
- 5:57there no more, but it's like
- 6:00you know,
- 6:01I don't know. I have this problem where
- 6:02I always like look in the past and go
- 6:04like what did I miss out on and like
- 6:07you know, okay, now I need to kind of
- 6:08make up for it. Um you know, so
- 6:12I just have to
- 6:14you know, get to the place, right? I
- 6:15give myself permission to to just be
- 6:17okay with the fact that I did miss out
- 6:20on a bit and not not feel so
- 6:23you know, anxious or you know, overly um
- 6:27you know,
- 6:29overly kind of like ambitious to to make
- 6:31it up, right? Just
- 6:33myself permission to kind of take it one
- 6:35day at a time and then just
- 6:37you know, let let those connections and
- 6:40the relationships be rebuilt, you know,
- 6:42in due time.
- 6:44Yeah.
- 6:46>> Oh, well, thanks for sharing that. Um
- 6:49I think it's important to
- 6:53kind of acknowledge those things and
- 6:54it's it's good that you're able to
- 6:58kind of see see it for what it was and
- 7:00be able to kind of look in the past and
- 7:03know that
- 7:04brighter brighter things are ahead,
- 7:06which is good progress-wise. You know,
- 7:08sometimes we
- 7:10tend to look at the past or look at our
- 7:12situation and it could make us feel a
- 7:15certain way, maybe like there's no light
- 7:16at the end of the tunnel and those
- 7:18feelings are real and they're definitely
- 7:21hard to deal with. Um so, I'm glad that
- 7:24you're kind of getting out of that space
- 7:26a little bit. You seem a little bit hap-
- 7:29like lighter, like a little bit happier
- 7:31almost from the last time we talked. So,
- 7:33that's good to see.
- 7:34Um
- 7:36I just wanted to ask if there was
- 7:38anything
- 7:40else that was on your mind that's since
- 7:43the last time we spoke, that you wanted
- 7:44to bring up today?
- 7:47>> Um,
- 7:48>> [clears throat]
- 7:48>> no, just just I was curious if you, you
- 7:51know, had any um, you know, advice for
- 7:53me to kind of like
- 7:56I kind of like like
- 7:58therapist to give me a little bit of
- 7:59homework if possible, so like I have
- 8:01something to work on till like the next
- 8:03session. So, I was wondering if you
- 8:05could give me any um, advice or feedback
- 8:08or you know, things to work on and to
- 8:10kind of
- 8:11you know, be able to check in with you
- 8:12next time and give like a update, so to
- 8:14speak.
- 8:15>> Yeah, of course. I'm happy to give you
- 8:18some homework. That's great that you're
- 8:20open to that. Um,
- 8:23if you want to, I have a few different,
- 8:26but let's just start with one maybe. Um,
- 8:29pretty simple. I'll explain it.
- 8:31Basically, what I want you to do, this
- 8:35will be your homework from now until the
- 8:37next time we see each other, is kind of
- 8:39make a almost like a journal entry,
- 8:43but more of like a list um, of the
- 8:46things that you think you have improved
- 8:49on, and then also things that you still
- 8:52want to improve on. So, it's kind of
- 8:54like a positive and then a goal. So,
- 8:58um, does that make sense to you?
- 9:00>> Yes, very much so.
- 9:02>> All right, great.
- 9:03Um,
- 9:04awesome. So,
- 9:06>> [sighs and gasps]
- 9:06>> we're about to wrap things up today, so
- 9:08I just wanted to kind of go over a
- 9:09little bit of what we discussed and then
- 9:13um, anything that you want, we can bring
- 9:14up again next week. So, we went over
- 9:18your resources, that you found some
- 9:20resources and to kind of guiding you
- 9:23into your next direction, which is
- 9:24great. Um, we went over your um, pains,
- 9:29your leg pains and the progress on that,
- 9:32and
- 9:33some homework, some homework that you
- 9:36wanted.
- 9:37>> Yes.
- 9:38Very much appreciate your time and um I
- 9:41really um look forward to our next
- 9:42session.
- 9:43>> Awesome. Well, yeah, I'll see you next
- 9:46time and reach out if you need anything
- 9:48in the meantime.
- 9:49>> All right. Thank you so much.
- 9:51>> Yep. See ya.
- 9:52>> Bye.
