4. 0:08been hearing things and you know and
5. 0:09seeing things on the blogs and you know
6. 0:12I'm just I'm just tired what are the
7. 0:14lies that you're hearing that disturb
8. 0:16your mouth oh my god all of them
9. 0:21that little girl is trapped in the
10. 0:22basement helicopters over my house
11. 0:25trying to rescue someone that doesn't
12. 0:29need rescuing because they're not in my
13. 0:31house
14. 0:32handcuffing people starving people I
15. 0:34have a harem what you call it a cult
16. 0:39really know what a coldie is but I know
17. 0:41I don't have one you know have you done
18. 0:43anything that you regret have you done
19. 0:45anything wrong
20. 0:46lots of things wrong when it comes to
21. 0:49women that I apologize but I apologize
22. 0:51in those relationships at the time I was
23. 0:54in the relationships broken any laws
24. 0:56when it comes to women absolutely not

32. 1:14documentary which I'm sure you have I
33. 1:16have everybody say something bad about
34. 1:18me nobody said nothing could they was
35. 1:23describing Lucifer

37. 1:30I'm not a devil and I know me that my
38. 1:33monster I'm gonna name the names Andrea

42. 1:45everything they said in that documentary
43. 1:47about you is not true they are lying on
44. 1:50me why would these women say the same
45. 1:52thing about you that you are controlling
46. 1:54that you are abusive that you tell women
47. 1:57when to eat when to go to the bathroom
48. 1:59when they can sleep where they can dress
49. 2:02why would all these women tell these
50. 2:04different stories about you if they were
51. 2:06not true and they don't know each other
52. 2:08that defies logic to me right right

54. 2:12you hear that for nation you can start a
55. 2:16rumor on a guy like me or celebrity just
56. 2:19like that all you have to do is push a
57. 2:21button on your phone and say so-and-so
58. 2:24did this to me our Kelly did this to me
59. 2:26and if you get any traction from that if
60. 2:28you if you're able to write a book from
61. 2:29that if you're able to get a reality
62. 2:32show then any girl that I had a
63. 2:34relationship in the past that I it just
64. 2:36didn't work out she can come and say the
65. 2:39same exact thing
66. 2:40are you blaming this on social media I'm
67. 2:42talking about the power of social media
68. 2:45in 2008 our Kelly was found not guilty
69. 2:48on 14 counts of child pornography after
70. 2:52prosecutors in Chicago failed to
71. 2:54convince a jury that he was a man seen
72. 2:57in a sex tape with a girl as young as 13
73. 3:02last month Kelly was indicted again this
74. 3:05time charged with aggravated criminal
75. 3:07sexual abuse of 4 women including three
76. 3:10who the charges say were minors at the
77. 3:13time have you ever had sex of anyone
78. 3:15under the age of 7 no never no I have to
79. 3:21tell you it's so hard to believe that
80. 3:22based on all the bit about you what
81. 3:28women said about me what women so
82. 3:31nobody's allowed to be mad at me
83. 3:33and be scorned and allow me so they're
84. 3:35lying on you that's your explanation
85. 3:37they're lying on you absolutely

88. 3:47maligned your been assassinated I have
89. 3:50been buried alive one of my life so I
90. 3:55think the point you're making is and and

124. 5:49fathers told me we're going to destroy
125. 5:52your career but Kelly's emotions

137. 6:19is the kind of help I need yes what kind
138. 6:21of help I need somebody to help me not
139. 6:25have a big heart because my heart is so
140. 6:27big people betrayed me for giving them
141. 6:31you sound like you're playing the victim

150. 6:52of a woman who lives with our Kelly at
151. 6:54his home the parents of Joycelyn savage
152. 6:56say that the singer not only abused but
153. 6:58brainwashed their daughter our Kelly
154. 7:00denies that and claims it was savages
155. 7:02father who gave his daughter to him at a
156. 7:05concert I didn't go looking for a
157. 7:07Jocelyn Savage I was doing my show he
158. 7:12brought her an ax a friend of mine to
159. 7:14put her on the stage with our Kelly make
160. 7:18sure she's on the stage but in a news
161. 7:21conference this morning the savage
162. 7:22family says they have no doubt that
163. 7:24Joycelyn is being held by the singer
164. 7:26against her will we went from seeing you
165. 7:29or talking to you daily or weekly to not
166. 7:32seen you in two years so that is a clear
167. 7:35indication to us and it's a mother that
168. 7:38something is definitely wrong with the
169. 7:41situation and we won't stop until we
170. 7:44have our answers and make sure your
171. 7:45well-being it's okay well joining me now
172. 7:48is Renee Graham she's an associate
173. 7:50editor and columnist at the Boston Globe
174. 7:52Renee I know you've been following our
175. 7:53Kelly's story very closely I'm so
176. 7:55grateful you could join us today from
177. 7:57Gail King's interview what really stood
178. 7:59out to you Renee you know I was shocking
179. 8:04to me about the interviews I think that
180. 8:06our Kelly and his people perhaps thought
181. 8:07this would be able to paint him as a
182. 8:08more sympathetic figure
183. 8:10and if that was the goal I think it
184. 8:11failed miserably it came off looking
185. 8:14like the latest chapter of trapped in
186. 8:17the closet you know he was unhinged she
187. 8:20was overwrought he was evasive so I you
188. 8:24know that's what really came off to me
189. 8:25it came off of someone who was trying to
190. 8:27manipulate the audience the way he
191. 8:31allegedly is manipulating these women
192. 8:33you know it was remarkable so many
193. 8:35people are commenting about Gayle King
194. 8:36and her composure she actually was
195. 8:38speaking to my colleagues
196. 8:39Vlada and anne-marie green earlier this
197. 8:41morning saying at no point did she feel
198. 8:43that our Kelly was going to threaten or
199. 8:44harm her but a tweet that you mentioned
200. 8:47this morning kind of caught our
201. 8:48attention and you say now we see exactly
202. 8:50how our Kelly believes behaves when
203. 8:53challenged by a woman that was your
204. 8:55tweet now we see exactly how our Kelly
205. 8:58behaves when challenged by a woman what
206. 9:01does this say about his track record and
207. 9:02what did you mean by that tweet well you
208. 9:05know in surviving our Kelly we heard
209. 9:07women talking about not just sexual
210. 9:09violence but physical violence and how
211. 9:12if they didn't like the right basketball
212. 9:13team they would be slapped they would be
213. 9:16hit and this sense of domineering and
214. 9:20control being domineering and
215. 9:21controlling and that's what it felt like
216. 9:23a little bit today he is towering over
217. 9:25Gayle King who is sitting there being
218. 9:28the consummate pro as he is sort of
219. 9:30screaming and flailing and crying and
220. 9:33this whole sort of dramatic performance
221. 9:34and it just means you wonder that if
222. 9:36that's what he does on camera you know
223. 9:39what does he like when nobody's looking
224. 9:41yeah and you know at one point Gayle
225. 9:43tells him Robert Robert I want to have a
226. 9:46conversation with you and he kind of
227. 9:47calms down he turns to her and says I
228. 9:48hope the cameras still rolling and she
229. 9:50says yes it is still rolling but you
230. 9:52know despite all of this Renee you
231. 9:54mentioned that after the release of
232. 9:56surviving our Kelly streams of his music
233. 9:59on Spotify increased 16% our Kelly does
234. 10:02have a fan base they've shown up after
235. 10:05he's been released from jail but based
236. 10:06on the reaction to this interview what
237. 10:08do you think the court of public opinion
238. 10:09has to say I do think there may be a bit
239. 10:13of a shift I think it did make a
240. 10:15difference when his longtime record
241. 10:17label dropped him I think that there's a
242. 10:20sense that you know he it isn't just
243. 10:22about the money anymore with our
244. 10:23Keli that as someone to be affiliate
245. 10:26with him he's a bit of a liability so
246. 10:28you know he may get another bump on
247. 10:30uncertain streaming services and there
248. 10:31may be a curiosity factor there but III
249. 10:34want to believe that the career our
250. 10:37Kelly has half the last 30 years is
251. 10:39effectively over much has been written
252. 10:42sort of about the progress within this
253. 10:44me to era you've argued that the voices
254. 10:47of black women have been left out do you
255. 10:49get the sense that people will now take
256. 10:50their voices more seriously I think what
257. 10:55the movement is done is amplify all
258. 10:56voices and I would certainly hope that
259. 10:58that would include the voices of black
260. 11:00women among them you know the thing we
261. 11:02also to get back to it are Kelly's these
262. 11:04allegations have been out there for 25
263. 11:06years a quarter of a century and it
264. 11:08seems like no one has ever really
265. 11:09listened they're listening now people
266. 11:12paid attention when he was arrested
267. 11:14people watch the documentary and people
268. 11:15certainly watched Gail King's entry with
269. 11:17him this morning so I have to think that
270. 11:19their voices at last will be amplified
271. 11:22but it shouldn't just stop with the the
272. 11:25Kelly accuses I hope it happens to two
273. 11:27other black women as well you know the
274. 11:28unfortunate part of the me to era Renee
275. 11:31is it takes moments like these just
276. 11:32re-enter the public consciousness to
277. 11:34remind people again over and over again
278. 11:37how do you keep the attention up on a
279. 11:38serious issue like this without having
280. 11:40these explosive moments to get the world
281. 11:44just sort of pay attention well I think
282. 11:46you know that there has to be a kind of
283. 11:48societal shift with with me too and I
284. 11:50think that's exactly what tarana burke
285. 11:52had in mind when she founded this a
286. 11:53decade ago you know it's about these big
287. 11:56moments but it's also about creating
288. 11:58safe spaces where victims can tell their
289. 12:01stories without repercussions and I
290. 12:03think that's that's what this comes down
291. 12:04to if it's just a sort of moment where
292. 12:06it's our Kelly on TV and flailing but a
293. 12:09woman in her office or a woman who works
294. 12:11in a restaurant or a young man on his
295. 12:13hockey team feels like he still has to
296. 12:16keep that secret then then the movement
297. 12:19isn't doing what it should be doing and
298. 12:21we're not responding to the movement the
299. 12:23way we should be are you optimistic
