- 0:01the Quran on
- 0:04embryology Professor Keith Moore is one
- 0:06of the world's prominent scientists in
- 0:08the fields of anatomy and embryology and
- 0:12is the author of the book entitled the
- 0:14developing human which has been
- 0:16translated into eight
- 0:18languages the book is considered a
- 0:20scientific reference work and was chosen
- 0:22by the special Committee in the United
- 0:24States as the best book authorized by
- 0:27one
- 0:28person Dr Keith Moore is the professor
- 0:31of anatomy and cell biology at the
- 0:33University of Toronto in Toronto
- 0:36Canada in 1984 he received the most
- 0:39distinguished Award presented in the
- 0:41field of anatomy in Canada the JCB Grant
- 0:45award from the Canadian Association of
- 0:48anatomists he has directed many
- 0:51International associations such as the
- 0:53Canadian and American Association of
- 0:55anatomists and the Council of the Union
- 0:58of biological sciences
- 1:01let's now listen to what Professor Keith
- 1:03Moore has to say about the revelations
- 1:06found in the Quran 1400 years ago and
- 1:10what science has only recently been able
- 1:12to find out through detailed
- 1:15investigation in the
- 1:171940s uh professor streer of The carnegi
- 1:21Institute of embryology in Washington DC
- 1:24proposed a system for classifying the
- 1:27stages of human development his system
- 1:31arranged human embryos in 23 numbered St
- 1:34stages based on their difference
- 1:37differences in appearance the Kiki
- 1:40system of classification was used around
- 1:42the world until the 1970s when a more
- 1:45refined system was proposed by Dr Ronan
- 1:48Ary of The carnegi Institute of
- 1:50embryology now in San Diego
- 1:54California intensive studies of the
- 1:56Quran and Hadith in the last four years
- 1:59have revealed a system for classifying
- 2:01human embryos that is amazing since it
- 2:04was recorded in the 7th Century ad
- 2:07although Aristotle the founder of the
- 2:09science of embryology realized that
- 2:12chick embryo was developed in stages
- 2:15from his studies of hen eggs in the 4th
- 2:17Century BC he did not give any details
- 2:21about these stages as far as it is known
- 2:24from the history of embryology little
- 2:27was known about the staging and
- 2:29classific ation of human embryos until
- 2:32the 20th century for this reason the
- 2:35descriptions of the human embryo in the
- 2:37Quran cannot be based on scientific
- 2:40knowledge in the seventh 7th Century the
- 2:44only reasonable conclusion is that these
- 2:46descriptions were revealed to Muhammad
- 2:48from God he could not have known such
- 2:51details because he was an illiterate man
- 2:54with Absol absolutely no scientific
- 2:57training the first uh stage is adaa and
- 3:02you'll have to apologize my for my
- 3:05pronunciation U this is from Surah T 6
- 3:11he is Created from a drop
- 3:13emitted this Arabic term refers to the
- 3:17forceful emission of fluids which occurs
- 3:20during ejaculation in the male and
- 3:23ovulation in the female the male
- 3:26secretions called Sean contain the spaoa
- 3:31and the female secretions called
- 3:33folicular fluid contain the ovam this is
- 3:37the stage of fertilization and the nuta
- 3:42and after the this is what we call the
- 3:45zygote referred to in the cran as the
- 3:48nuta and the nuta undergo division which
- 3:52we call cleavage as it passes down the
- 3:55uterine 2 so these are the stages of the
- 3:58nuta here as it undergoes uh cell
- 4:02division
- 4:03um it is this term is used several times
- 4:06in the Quan when referring to the
- 4:08beginning of development after examining
- 4:11all these references it is concluded
- 4:13that nuta refers to the small drop of
- 4:16fluid containing the sperm and the ovam
- 4:19the term nuta is also used to refer to
- 4:22the dividing zygote as it undergoes
- 4:25cleavage cell division and passes along
- 4:28the uterine tube to enter the uterus
- 4:31this Sur says then he made his progeny
- 4:35from a quintessence of the nature of
- 4:37fluid
- 4:39despised salala is an Arabic term refers
- 4:43to the gentle extraction of the germ or
- 4:46sex cells from the millions that are uh
- 4:50produced there are 300 to 500 million
- 4:53sperms in the ejaculate of a healthy
- 4:57young male only one of these is a
- 4:59extracted from the semen to fertilize
- 5:02the oval this shows a photograph of the
- 5:06millions of sperm uh when they are
- 5:10ejaculated and only one of these several
- 5:13million sperms are is drawn out which is
- 5:16what is suggested by the word sulala now
- 5:20the same in the case of the uh ovary uh
- 5:25uh only one ovam reaches maturity and is
- 5:28expelled from the OV
- 5:30and it is extracted from the many
- 5:33thousands that are available in the
- 5:35ovary again the idea of extraction or
- 5:39suala the next stage is amaj amaj Sur ad
- 5:44D to verily recreated man from a mixture
- 5:48of a germinal drop amage then is an
- 5:51Arabic term is used in the cran to
- 5:53describe the mixing of the sperms and
- 5:55the ovam during
- 5:57fertilization uh the ovam or R rotates
- 6:00within the fluid containing the sperms
- 6:02until one of them is successful in
- 6:05penetrating its covering layers which we
- 6:07call the Corona
- 6:10radiata and the Zona pooa which is this
- 6:13layer
- 6:15here I'll read it again in English uh
- 6:18it's Sur abasa 19 he created a new
- 6:21individual from nuta and immediately
- 6:24planned and programmed him that was the
- 6:26first one we had oh there it is um so
- 6:31elel then is an Arabic term which means
- 6:34coming into being and it's used when
- 6:37referring to the fertilized ovam or
- 6:40zygote here you can see the uh nuclei
- 6:44from the sperm and the ovam uniting to
- 6:47form a new cell which is the zygote or
- 6:50nuta and uh then uh here is the zygo nut
- 6:55again but it's just getting ready to
- 6:56divide into two cells which we call the
- 6:59dividing zygote or the dividing
- 7:02nuta the next stage El
- 7:06teer which is the same verse that was
- 7:09just repeated this Arabic term means the
- 7:12determination of characters and appears
- 7:14to refer to the fact that from the
- 7:16beginning the zygote or nuta contains
- 7:19genetic factors in the chromosome
- 7:21contain the genes which determine the
- 7:23color of the future person's eyes hair
- 7:26and skin and all its other
- 7:28characteristics such as the appearance
- 7:30of the face and the
- 7:32body Al Hearth
- 7:34Sur Al beera a 223 your wives are as a
- 7:40tilt unto you this Arabic term refers to
- 7:44the plowing of the earth and the sewing
- 7:46of the seed in it this term is used in
- 7:49reference to sexual intercourse plowing
- 7:52and implantation of the blasty sewing of
- 7:55the seed this analogy is a very good one
- 7:59since the blasty develops root-like
- 8:01structures called chonic Villi which
- 8:04derive oxygen and nutrients from the
- 8:07mother's blood just as the roots of the
- 8:09plant sh here uh Drive their nutrients
- 8:14from the
- 8:17soil next uh is ala let's have the next
- 8:23slide ala is Sur Al minum I of 14 then
- 8:29we created the drop into a leech-like
- 8:31structure then of that leech-like
- 8:33structure we made a chew like substance
- 8:37alaka refers to a leech-like
- 8:39appearance especially at about 22 days
- 8:42as shown in this
- 8:45slide this is a leech and this is the
- 8:48human embryo but 23 days I think you
- 8:52have to agree that the
- 8:53similarity between these structures is
- 8:58amazing and the it is truly the human
- 9:00embryo is truly leech-like
- 9:03the leech-like embryo is attached to the
- 9:06chonic sac which is embedded in the
- 9:09maternal blood and attached to the
- 9:11maternal endometrium or the lining of
- 9:14the
- 9:16uterus this is uh the muda stage Surah
- 9:20Al mum aah 1 to 14 and I repeated that
- 9:25before then we created the drop into a
- 9:27leech-like structure then of that each
- 9:29like structure we made a chw like
- 9:32substance which you can see here and
- 9:35begins during the sixth
- 9:38week next uh stage is
- 9:43uh Alissa
- 9:46billan Surah Al Min Ayah 14 then we
- 9:50cloth the bones with
- 9:53flesh so in the previous stage then we
- 9:55had the bones and then we covered the
- 9:58bones with flesh so this Arabic term
- 10:02means a clothing uh with flesh and after
- 10:05the bones form they become surrounded or
- 10:08clothed by flesh or muscles which
- 10:10acquire attachments to them these muscle
- 10:13attachment permit movements of the
- 10:15skeleton to
- 10:18occur now this is the final stage of
- 10:21development called
- 10:23elasha then we developed of him another
- 10:26creation uh anasha means uh growth are
- 10:29coming into being this undoubtedly
- 10:32refers to the fetal period when there is
- 10:35growth and differentiation of the embryo
- 10:37that developed in the embryonic period
- 10:40the rate of body growth during the fetal
- 10:43period is remarkable especially between
- 10:45the 9th and 16th
- 10:48weeks notice how quickly it's growing in
- 10:51this uh NASA stage
- 10:54or uh fetal period as we call it the
- 10:57next uh stage is l
- 11:01Kia this sah says that the duration of
- 11:04pregnancy and separation is 30 months
- 11:07this Arabic term refers to the viability
- 11:10or ability of the human fetus to survive
- 11:13outside the uterus there's no definite
- 11:16time when survival of the fetus is
- 11:18assured but it is generally accepted now
- 11:21that a fetus that is 24 weeks or older
- 11:24has a reasonable chance of survival
- 11:27survival of fetus's 22 to 24 weeks old
- 11:31has only been become possible in the
- 11:33last 2
- 11:34years uh when better methods are
- 11:37providing care for premature infants uh
- 11:40were developed so uh the period viable H
- 11:45or fetus would be here at 24 weeks we
- 11:48used to say 26 28 but now with better
- 11:52incubation uh some babies at 24 weeks
- 11:54can survive we've even had some at 22
- 11:57weeks but this takes highly
- 11:59sophisticated incubation uh to do that
- 12:02so this period Then is the uh period of
- 12:07viability or the ability of the human
- 12:09fetus to
- 12:11survive the next stage is the AL hadana
- 12:15alemia this uh stage refers to the final
- 12:19stages of fetal development in the
- 12:21uterus when the fetus could survive if
- 12:24born prematurely but it remains in the
- 12:26uterus where it is supported or
- 12:28nourished by by the mother in most cases
- 12:31therefore the uterus acts as an
- 12:33incubator for the premature infant
- 12:35weight gained during these final weeks
- 12:37is phenomenal as the fetus accumulates
- 12:40fat and is gradually prepared for
- 12:45birth this last Ayah is Surah abasa ayat
- 12:5019 and 20 from a drop he created him and
- 12:53immediately planned and programmed him
- 12:56then he makes his passage easy
- 12:59this uh Arabic term
- 13:02uh means to make the passage easy it is
- 13:05well known that as the time of birth
- 13:07approaches the maternal tissues of the
- 13:10cervix and the joints of the pelvis
- 13:12become looser so that the passage of the
- 13:14fetus through the fetal Canal will be
- 13:17facilitated this process initiated by
- 13:20hormones in the mother's blood
- 13:22accelerates during the early stages of
- 13:25labor or delivery of the baby as the
- 13:27amniochorionic
- 13:29sack that is the bag of waters
- 13:32surrounding the baby expands near the
- 13:35time of birth it protrudes into the
- 13:37cervix that is the neck of the uterus
- 13:40and causes it to
- 13:41dilate when the amniochorionic sac
- 13:45ruptures the amniotic fluid provides a
- 13:47slippery pathway for the fetus to pass
- 13:50along the cervix and vagina to the
- 13:53outside of its mother all the above
- 13:56occurrences facilitate the birth of the
- 13:58baby that is is they make the passage
- 14:01easy the stages of embryonic and Fetal
- 14:03development mentioned in the cran should
- 14:06be used when teaching Muslim Students
- 14:09because they are in accordance with our
- 14:11modern understanding of the development
- 14:13before birth it will also enable Muslim
- 14:16doctors and nurses to explain human
- 14:18development to their patients using
- 14:21uranic
- 14:22references Muhammad could not have known
- 14:24these facts about human development in
- 14:26the 7th Century because most of them
- 14:29were not discovered until the 20th
- 14:31century Muslims and others are justified
- 14:33in concluding that these facts could
- 14:35only have been revealed to Muhammad but
- 14:38the one know who knows all about us not
- 14:40only about how we developed but how we
- 14:42live and function thank you
