- 0:00When I think about a community I belong
- 0:02to, I definitely think my family would
- 0:04be a good example. One way that I see
- 0:06myself as different from some of my
- 0:08family members is that I tend to be more
- 0:10adventurous and open to trying new
- 0:11things. I enjoy traveling, exploring new
- 0:15places and stepping outside my comfort
- 0:17zone a lot more than they do. I think
- 0:19the best example of this is that I live
- 0:21in Hawaii and they want to live in
- 0:23Illinois forever. I think these
- 0:25differences influence how we communicate
- 0:27sometimes because we sometimes have
- 0:29different opinions or perspectives on
- 0:31things. I think it's important to
- 0:33respect those differences and understand
- 0:35that everyone has their own way of
- 0:37looking at things and especially life.
- 0:39At the same time, my family and I do
- 0:41share a lot of similarities. We have
- 0:43similar values. We care about each other
- 0:45and we want what's best for one another.
- 0:48Having those shared experiences and
- 0:49values creates a sense of community
- 0:51because we have a connection that comes
- 0:53from growing up together, being there
- 0:55for each other, and being able to
- 0:56communicate openly and listen to each
- 0:58other's perspectives. That definitely
- 1:00helps strengthen those relationships.
- 1:04One example of a time I was persuaded
- 1:07was recently I was convinced to foster
- 1:09kittens. Here they are. Actually,
- 1:12they're both right here.
- 1:14Uh, this is a good example of pathos
- 1:16since it was emotional appeal that
- 1:18definitely caused me to agree to this. I
- 1:21really like animals and I felt empathy
- 1:23for them. Uh, but it also I think
- 1:26applies to logos since logic and reason
- 1:29played a role. I felt like I should take
- 1:31care of them because they're only 3
- 1:32weeks old and they definitely need
- 1:34somebody to do it and I can. So, I was
- 1:38persuaded by feelings and facts to take
- 1:40care of them. This shows how rhetoric
- 1:43and persuasive messages can influence
- 1:45the way we think and the choices we
- 1:47make. Overall, I think our differences
- 1:50and similarities both play an important
- 1:52role in building community and helping
- 1:54understand each other. Thank you.
