  1. 0:05Welcome to Clarvisión Academy. Today
  2. 0:08we are going to talk about another test
  3. 0:10we perform at our Claraudición
  4. 0:12audiology clinic. It is tympanometry.
  5. 0:16Acoustic impedance is the resistance
  6. 0:17that our eardrum-ossicle system opposes
  7. 0:19to the passage of sound through our ear
  8. 0:21. That is, the resistance that the
  9. 0:24eardrum and the chain of ossicles
  10. 0:26provide when sound passes through our
  11. 0:27ear. It is an objective test with which
  12. 0:30we are going to evaluate the middle ear
  13. 0:32. This will help us in the detection of
  14. 0:35conductive hearing loss. Conductive
  15. 0:38hearing loss is hearing loss due to a
  16. 0:40problem in the middle ear. It is
  17. 0:43performed with an impedance meter and
  18. 0:45consists of four tests in total. They
  19. 0:48are painless, very quick, non-invasive,
  20. 0:50and all we have to do is take this
  21. 0:52probe, place it in the ear canal, and
  22. 0:54remain silent and without swallowing.
  23. 0:58Once we do it in one ear, we would move
  24. 1:00on to the next. It is a very simple
  25. 1:02test that hardly requires the patient
  26. 1:04to participate. What are the four tests
  27. 1:08included in tympanometry? The first of
  28. 1:11them is tympanometry, with which we are
  29. 1:13going to evaluate the flexibility of
  30. 1:15the tympanic membrane. Another one of
  31. 1:18them is the stapedial reflex. In the
  32. 1:20stapedial reflex, we are going to
  33. 1:22evaluate the ability of the stapedius
  34. 1:24muscle to tighten when it is about to
  35. 1:26receive a high-intensity stimulus. That
  36. 1:29is to say, it is like a safety
  37. 1:31mechanism our ear has for loud sounds
  38. 1:33so they don't pass to the inner ear and
  39. 1:35cause damage. Another test we are going
  40. 1:39to evaluate would be the volume, being
  41. 1:41able to measure the physical volume of
  42. 1:43our middle ear to get that value, and
  43. 1:45the tubal function. With this test, we
  44. 1:48are going to evaluate if our Eustachian
  45. 1:50tube is working well or not. For this,
  46. 1:53we perform a normal tympanometry, that
  47. 1:55is, we place our tip, we do not swallow
  48. 1:57, we do not move our jaw, we do not
  49. 1:59talk, and we measure the value we get.
  50. 2:02And next, we perform the same
  51. 2:04measurement, but having previously
  52. 2:05performed the Valsalva maneuver. The
  53. 2:09Valsalva maneuver is to cover both your
  54. 2:11mouth and nose and blow air out. This
  55. 2:16way, all the ducts will open, and we
  56. 2:17perform the tympanometry again, which
  57. 2:19will give us very useful values to
  58. 2:21evaluate your hearing loss. Well, that
  59. 2:25is everything that makes up
  60. 2:27tympanometry, and we hope you like it,
  61. 2:29and we look forward to seeing you at
  62. 2:30Clarvisión Academy in the next video.
  63. 2:33Best regards.
