2. 0:02[music] it's not your responsibility to
3. 0:03do so, but where does that journey of
4. 0:06of believing begin for someone like me?
5. 0:10Because, you know, people say the Bible,
6. 0:12and I go, "Well, it's kind of like what
7. 0:14you said about the computers. It's like
8. 0:16if you're using something to justify
9. 0:18the same thing is true,
10. 0:21then that circular reasoning I find to
11. 0:22be incomplete cuz I could write on this
12. 0:24piece of paper,
13. 0:25"Uh Steven Bartlett is a lizard."

16. 0:30"This piece of paper is true."
17. 0:33And then you then use that same piece of
18. 0:35paper to justify the validity of that
19. 0:37same piece of paper.

21. 0:38>> And I go, "Well, that's that's not solid
22. 0:40reasoning."
23. 0:41>> No, but you see, I could say, "Steven
24. 0:45Bartlett, there's a red Ferrari parked
25. 0:48in the street outside."

29. 0:56for a thousand years. You would never
30. 0:59know whether I was true or not unless
31. 1:01you went and looked.

34. 1:06something from a distance.

36. 1:09if you are ever going to get to know a
37. 1:13person, you've got to begin to give up
38. 1:17your distance. You will know that from
39. 1:20everyday life.

41. 1:21>> And it seems to me one of the things to
42. 1:23try to begin to grasp is God is not a
43. 1:26proposition or a philosophy or even a
44. 1:28religion. God is a person. Christianity
45. 1:32to me doesn't compete with any anything
46. 1:34else
47. 1:35because Christ offers me something
48. 1:38nobody else offers me. Nobody else
49. 1:40offers me peace. The peace of knowing
50. 1:43[music]
51. 1:44that I have real forgiveness. The peace
52. 1:47of knowing that I have a friend and a
53. 1:49companion to whom I can talk [music] all
54. 1:50the time. That's been so meaningful in
55. 1:52my life as I spell out in detail my
56. 1:54autobiography.
57. 1:56And the peace of having been given a new
58. 1:58life that will not end when I die. I'm
59. 2:0282 now and probably more than twice as
60. 2:05old as you are. As I look towards the
61. 2:07future, I have in my heart a certainty,
62. 2:10not because I've merited it, the exact
63. 2:13opposite, because I couldn't merit it,
64. 2:16but because Christ has done something
65. 2:19for me through the cross and the
66. 2:20resurrection. That may sound all mumbo
67. 2:22jumbo at the moment, but has done
68. 2:25something that enables me to have a
69. 2:27relationship that is secure, that
70. 2:30floods over the whole of life and has
71. 2:33made my life what it is for the last 70
72. 2:36years, more or less.
