2. 0:02here uh 39 years in
3. 0:06prison most of my
4. 0:08life most of this man's life most of
5. 0:11this man's
6. 0:12life and um I don't want to see it
7. 0:16happen again to
8. 0:18anybody guilty or
9. 0:22innocent
10. 0:26um excuse me I'm
11. 0:28sorry try not to get emotional with just
12. 0:31things but I can't help it um I spent
13. 0:34three and 1/2 years on death row and um
14. 0:38I can tell you from experience this is
15. 0:40nothing I've read this isn't anything
16. 0:43somebody's told me I was there I know
17. 0:48it's not a place fit for human beings if
18. 0:51we do this to
19. 0:53[Music]
20. 0:54canines the world would be in an upro
21. 0:57but we do it to people every day
22. 1:00every
23. 1:01day and
24. 1:04um we stand in here today we're
25. 1:07survivors
26. 1:08but I know in my heart there are a lot
27. 1:11of people who don't survive who don't
28. 1:13get as fortunate and so I think that
29. 1:16it's tont that we take this step forward
30. 1:20with these presented leg
31. 1:22legislation
32. 1:24[Music]
33. 1:25to not so much as change people's views
34. 1:28about the death penalty
35. 1:30but to get us conversation and the
36. 1:32dialogue started about the death penalty
37. 1:34and hopefully through
38. 1:36dialogue and fairness and transparency
39. 1:40we can stop this horrendous crime that
40. 1:44we the people are perpetrating in our
41. 1:47names that a lot of the public is really
42. 1:49not aware about what's really going
43. 1:52on I'm here to tell you I know I've been
44. 1:56there these gentlemen have been there
45. 1:58and uh again I re reiterate we we
46. 2:01wouldn't do this to dogs we wouldn't do
47. 2:03this to
48. 2:04animals and um so please please take
49. 2:08this
50. 2:10legislation and what we said to you
51. 2:12today in
52. 2:13consideration like I said I'm not here
53. 2:15to change anybody's mind per se but to
54. 2:18start a dialogue about what's really
55. 2:20going on and what's being perpetrated in
56. 2:23our name as
