- 0:00services, and so please take notice of
- 0:02that. Let's welcome Pastor Lamb as he
- 0:04comes.

- 0:10>> Hallelujah.
- 0:12>> [applause]
- 0:15>> Thank you.
- 0:20Leviticus
- 0:22No, I'm sorry. Numbers. I don't even
- 0:23know what I'm preaching.
- 0:26Numbers 18
- 0:29Numbers 18
- 0:31I want to thank Pastor Greg for the
- 0:34privilege of preaching here this morning
- 0:36and giving me the
- 0:38first Tuesday slot so I can preach and
- 0:41then enjoy the conference.
- 0:43Hallelujah. It's always a blessing.
- 0:46And it is that privilege that I want to
- 0:48consider with you this morning, the
- 0:51privilege that we have of ministry and
- 0:54of preaching.
- 0:56We heard last night the conference theme
- 0:59burning the plow
- 1:01and how it refers to a completely
- 1:03irreversible and
- 1:06total response of surrender to a call
- 1:10leaving things behind, all of the
- 1:13far-reaching
- 1:15consequences and implications of giving
- 1:18your life
- 1:19to the service of God.
- 1:22And
- 1:24that that includes a massive
- 1:26responsibility that we bear to preach
- 1:28this gospel
- 1:30all over the world.
- 1:32Every possible venue, situation to bring
- 1:36Christ to men
- 1:38and to bring men to Christ.
- 1:41And that requires a a massive
- 1:44consecration. You have to surrender to
- 1:46that call, and it's that that we seem to
- 1:49balk at.
- 1:51That complete
- 1:54burning the plow, that complete
- 1:57surrender. And so, to get us to yield to
- 2:01that consecration
- 2:03requires an overarching
- 2:05uh motivation.
- 2:08And we all know that motivation comes in
- 2:10two forms,
- 2:11the carrot and the stick.
- 2:14And um
- 2:16if you're the guy wielding the stick,
- 2:18the stick is more fun.
- 2:22But the carrot is more efficacious, so I
- 2:25have chosen the carrot this morning
- 2:28with perhaps a small amount of stick
- 2:31mixed in
- 2:32for good measure.
- 2:35Billy Graham famously said, when asked
- 2:38if he would consider a run for the
- 2:40president of the United States,
- 2:42said, "I'm a preacher of the gospel.
- 2:45I would have to take a step down to
- 2:47become president."
- 2:51I don't think he was just saying that as
- 2:52a sound bite.
- 2:54I think he was saying that cuz he
- 2:56believed it.
- 2:57And I think he believed it cuz he'd been
- 2:59there. He knew
- 3:00what an incredible privilege we have to
- 3:04minister for God. And that's what I want
- 3:06to zero in on this morning. So, Numbers
- 3:0918:7,
- 3:12"But only you and your sons
- 3:16may serve as priests in connection with
- 3:19everything at the altar
- 3:21and inside the curtain.
- 3:25I am giving you the service of the
- 3:27priesthood as a gift.
- 3:32Anyone else who comes near the sanctuary
- 3:36is to be put to death."
- 3:38Phew.
- 3:39Incredible. Let's pray. Father, I thank
- 3:42you
- 3:43for this incredible gift. I thank you
- 3:45for your mercy, God, for a world that
- 3:49needs redemption. And we who you have
- 3:52chosen to bring that redemption, I pray
- 3:55that the weight of that and the joy of
- 3:56that and the glory of that fills every
- 3:59heart here this morning and we will have
- 4:01nothing before it. I ask if there's
- 4:04anyone here that isn't saved, touch them
- 4:07with grace in Jesus' name.
- 4:10We Homo sapiens have a profoundly
- 4:13misshapen
- 4:15set of priorities and values. We don't
- 4:18really get it. Back in 1972,
- 4:22shortly after they invented rock and
- 4:24roll,
- 4:25a a group named Steely Dan sang the song
- 4:28uh
- 4:30"Reeling in the Years" and one of the
- 4:31lyrics was, "You wouldn't know a diamond
- 4:33if you held it in your hands.
- 4:36The things you count as precious, I
- 4:38can't understand."
- 4:40I don't think anything has changed since
- 4:42the '70s.
- 4:44I think it hasn't gotten any better,
- 4:46it's actually gotten worse.
- 4:49We have no comprehension
- 4:51of what is truly valuable.
- 4:55And of course, the problem goes way back
- 4:57beyond the '70s.
- 4:59Goes all the way back to
- 5:00Adam and Eve.
- 5:03Given the option
- 5:04of dwelling forever
- 5:07in the physical presence of God in a
- 5:09paradise
- 5:11created specifically for them,
- 5:14or
- 5:16indulging in just a brief moment
- 5:20of carnal pleasure,
- 5:23they chose the carnal pleasure.
- 5:26They preferred
- 5:28the world to heaven.
- 5:32Things haven't changed much in the
- 5:34ensuing 6,000 years.
- 5:37Given the option
- 5:39of entering our divine call
- 5:42to make eternal impact with our
- 5:46mortal lives
- 5:49to touch the souls of men, to dwell
- 5:52in the rich fellowship that God offers
- 5:55us
- 5:57at the altar in the work of the ministry
- 5:59or
- 6:03gaining some insignificant measure of
- 6:05wealth by plotting along behind 12 yoke
- 6:09of oxen
- 6:11and everything that oxen leave behind
- 6:15we choose cow dung every time.
- 6:21We have a very broken misunderstanding
- 6:26of what the good life is.
- 6:29Amen.
- 6:31Can you imagine
- 6:33the condition of the inner landscape of
- 6:35the priests in Malachi?
- 6:38God comments on them through the prophet
- 6:40and says, "My name will be great
- 6:44among the nations from where the sun
- 6:47rises to where it sets. In every place
- 6:52incense and pure offerings will be
- 6:55brought to me.
- 6:56Which stretches the
- 6:59little
- 7:00locus of God's presence of the
- 7:02tabernacle into the entire world. From
- 7:06every place they'll make offering to me
- 7:08because my name will be great among the
- 7:10nations
- 7:12says the Lord Almighty. But you
- 7:14profane
- 7:16by saying the Lord's table is defiled
- 7:20and its food contemptible.
- 7:24And you say and you say
- 7:28"What a burden."
- 7:31"What a burden."
- 7:33And you sniff at it
- 7:35contemptuously
- 7:38says the Lord Almighty.
- 7:40And just to be clear, God is talking to
- 7:43those honored priests specifically. A
- 7:46few verses earlier, it is you priests
- 7:49who show contempt
- 7:51for my name.
- 7:53It is you priests
- 7:56who show contempt
- 7:58for my great name.
- 8:00Think about that.
- 8:02Our text says, "But only you
- 8:06and your sons may serve as priests
- 8:09in connection with everything at the
- 8:11altar and inside the curtain. I am
- 8:13giving you this service
- 8:16of a priest
- 8:18as a gift.
- 8:21As a gift, as a privilege.
- 8:24As an honor.
- 8:26As something that in no way do we
- 8:29deserve or merit.
- 8:32And these selfsame priests
- 8:35that have been selected by God
- 8:38look at the work of the altar
- 8:40and entering into the holy of holies,
- 8:43the most sacred place on earth,
- 8:46and they say, "What a burden.
- 8:49Ah, what a sacrifice.
- 8:51What a sacrifice it is to answer the
- 8:53call.
- 8:55What a sacrifice it is to serve God. Can
- 8:57you imagine?"
- 8:59Of course you can.
- 9:02Because we are all capable of the same
- 9:03distorted take
- 9:06on the work of the altar.
- 9:09We who John tells us in the book of
- 9:11Revelation have been chosen and made
- 9:14priests
- 9:15to serve God
- 9:18are not thrilled with the idea.
- 9:22The holy of holies
- 9:24holds no
- 9:26special place in our hearts. We're not
- 9:28attracted to prayer.
- 9:31It's a burden.
- 9:33Can you imagine?
- 9:37We balk at proclaiming the incredible
- 9:39love of God to souls that are on their
- 9:42way to hell
- 9:44because evangelism is intimidating.
- 9:47Can you imagine?
- 9:50We withhold money that we should be
- 9:52begging the church to take like the
- 9:54Macedonians.
- 9:56We withhold it
- 9:58because it's costly.
- 10:01Can you imagine?
- 10:04The praise that should erupt
- 10:07from our hearts,
- 10:10the worship that should be a
- 10:13a part of our breath,
- 10:16we withhold because church is so
- 10:18tiresome.
- 10:21Ah, I'll show up Sunday morning.
- 10:25Can you imagine?
- 10:27What a burden.
- 10:30And we sniff at our calling and the gift
- 10:32of God
- 10:34contemptuously.
- 10:38We cry sacrifice
- 10:41when we should be praising God for the
- 10:42privilege.
- 10:45Oh, what a burden.
- 10:48Oh, what a burden.
- 10:55I'm talking about a privilege. So,
- 10:56there's the stick.
- 10:59Let me give you the carrot.
- 11:03John Lennox writes, "In ancient Israel,
- 11:06only one tribe in 12
- 11:10was appointed to the priestly office to
- 11:12perform the ritual and sacrifices in the
- 11:15tabernacle and temple
- 11:17that mediated between the people and
- 11:20God. What a
- 11:22What a privilege.
- 11:24In ordinary life, people are often
- 11:26delighted to be chosen to play a special
- 11:29role
- 11:30or do a special task in society.
- 11:34God
- 11:36has selected us.
- 11:40We heard that last night.
- 11:42Pastor Greg
- 11:44God chose us the mantle of choosing.
- 11:48Here's a guy just working a field and
- 11:50the prophet shows up.
- 11:52Lays the mantle on him.
- 11:55Can you Can you get your head around
- 11:59what has just happened? I I I don't
- 12:00think he could.
- 12:02This incredible honor, this incredible
- 12:05calling.
- 12:08Didn't expect it in his lifetime.
- 12:11And here comes God and I have chosen you
- 12:13Elijah
- 12:15to fill the role of Elijah.
- 12:18It's incredible. 1 Peter 2:9-10, but you
- 12:21are a chosen
- 12:23race,
- 12:25a royal priesthood. How many of you feel
- 12:27royal this morning?
- 12:29Royal.
- 12:31Me and Charles, you know, royal.
- 12:35A royal priesthood.
- 12:41I mean, we come from
- 12:42hardscrabble parts of the world.
- 12:46There's not There's I don't think
- 12:47there's royal blood anywhere in here.
- 12:49Maybe Nigel has a little.
- 12:52But he hasn't found it yet and they
- 12:53haven't given him any of the crown
- 12:55jewels and so
- 12:57So what good's it doing him? Royal.
- 12:59Royal priesthood. Royal priesthood. Get
- 13:02your head around that. That's who you
- 13:04are. Chosen by God.
- 13:08Chosen.
- 13:09You couldn't get chosen for a little
- 13:11league softball team.
- 13:13Chosen by God.
- 13:16>> [applause]
- 13:18>> Chosen by God.
- 13:20A people for his own possession, that
- 13:23you may proclaim. Chosen, that you may
- 13:26proclaim the excellencies of him who
- 13:29called you out of the darkness into the
- 13:30marvelous light.
- 13:32Once you were not a people,
- 13:35now you're God's people.
- 13:38That's insane.
- 13:40I'm the child of a drunk.
- 13:44And now I'm God's people.
- 13:47>> [sighs]
- 13:48>> What are we doing here?
- 13:50Who invited us?
- 13:53I said
- 13:55I don't let anybody into this place.
- 13:59They let me stand behind this pulpit.
- 14:04Chosen.
- 14:06Chosen.
- 14:09We were nobody.
- 14:11Have you ever thought about the treasure
- 14:13we have in these earthen vessels?
- 14:16Have you ever thought what an honor it
- 14:18is to serve God in any capacity?
- 14:22A doorkeeper, which is an usher.
- 14:26Right?
- 14:28A musician.
- 14:32Prayer.
- 14:33Worship.
- 14:35Offering up the incense of praise and
- 14:38prayer.
- 14:40He called us out of the darkness to
- 14:42this.
- 14:44Into his marvelous light. We were
- 14:46nobody. We were not a people.
- 14:50Now we're a royal priesthood.
- 14:53I I
- 14:54You could just sit and marvel at that
- 14:56all day long.
- 14:59This incredible privilege I am giving
- 15:03you.
- 15:04I am giving you
- 15:06the service of the priesthood
- 15:08as a gift.
- 15:12As a gift. Anyone else who tries to do
- 15:15this, I'm going to kill them.
- 15:19But I'm giving you the honor
- 15:23to minister
- 15:24before the altar and behind the veil.
- 15:28The service of the priesthood.
- 15:31Paul gives us some perspective. Paul
- 15:33writes these words, 2
- 15:35Corinthians 11, we're all familiar with
- 15:37them.
- 15:38As are they servants of Christ?
- 15:41I know I sound like a madman, but I have
- 15:43served him far more.
- 15:46I've worked harder,
- 15:47been put in prison more often, been
- 15:49whipped times without number,
- 15:52and faced death again and again.
- 15:54Five different times the Jewish leaders
- 15:56gave me 39 lashes. Three times I was
- 15:59beaten with rods.
- 16:00Once I was stoned.
- 16:03Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I
- 16:05spent a whole night and a day adrift at
- 16:07sea.
- 16:08I have traveled on many long journeys. I
- 16:11have faced dangers from rivers and from
- 16:13robbers.
- 16:14I have faced danger from my own people,
- 16:16the Jews as well as from the Gentiles.
- 16:19I have faced danger in the cities, in
- 16:21the deserts, and on the seas.
- 16:23I have faced danger from men who claim
- 16:26to be believers, but are not.
- 16:28I have worked hard and long and during
- 16:30many sleepless nights. I haven't I have
- 16:32been hungry and thirsty, and have often
- 16:35gone without food.
- 16:37I have shivered in the cold without
- 16:39enough clothing to keep me warm.
- 16:42That doesn't sound
- 16:44appealing.
- 16:46In fact, it sounds much worse than most
- 16:48of us have endured
- 16:51in our callings and ministries.
- 16:53Amen, all that we've suffered
- 16:57for Jesus.
- 16:59In light of what I just read you,
- 17:02listen to what Paul says in Romans 1:5.
- 17:06Through Christ, God has given us the
- 17:09privilege
- 17:12to think about what he's talking about.
- 17:14This is This isn't make-believe. This is
- 17:16I know what's involved.
- 17:18It's a privilege
- 17:21and authority as apostles to tell
- 17:23Gentiles everywhere what God has done
- 17:26for them so that they will believe and
- 17:28obey him bringing glory to his name.
- 17:30It's a privilege
- 17:33to preach this gospel.
- 17:36It's a high honor
- 17:38to stand as God's spokesman
- 17:43to declare the riches of his kingdom. He
- 17:46says, "It's a privilege. It's a
- 17:47privilege to be stoned. It's a privilege
- 17:50to be beat. It's a privilege to be
- 17:52whipped. It's a privilege to be cold.
- 17:54It's a privilege to be hungry. It's a
- 17:56privilege to lose sweet sleep. It's a
- 17:58privilege."
- 18:06What a God we serve.
- 18:09He goes on. Philippians 2:17, "I will
- 18:12rejoice."
- 18:14You know, we hear rejoice and it has all
- 18:16these religious kind of overtones,
- 18:18right? I will rejoice, right? Rejoice.
- 18:21That's not a word we use very much. But
- 18:23when Paul used it, he's he's really
- 18:25talking about absolutely head-exploding
- 18:27rejoicing.
- 18:29I I am thrilled. I am so blessed
- 18:33even if I lose my life.
- 18:36Pouring it out like a liquid offering to
- 18:38God just like your faithful service is
- 18:41an offering to God.
- 18:43And I want all of you to share
- 18:46that
- 18:47joy.
- 18:50Not the burden, the joy.
- 18:53The privilege, the honor.
- 18:57He says in Romans 5, "The grace of God
- 19:01The grace God gave me to be a minister
- 19:04of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave
- 19:07me the priestly duty
- 19:10of proclaiming the gospel of God so that
- 19:12the Gentiles might become an offering
- 19:15acceptable to God sanctified by the Holy
- 19:18Spirit. Therefore, I glory
- 19:21in Christ Jesus in my service
- 19:25to God.
- 19:27We're talking about a man whose service
- 19:29has cost him dearly. He doesn't regret a
- 19:32minute of it.
- 19:33He rejoices in it. He says, "This is the
- 19:36most incredible thing
- 19:38that a man could possibly do."
- 19:42Pastor Greg and I often part ways at the
- 19:44end of every conference, and he always
- 19:46looks at me with his big smile and he
- 19:48says, "Can you believe we get paid to do
- 19:50this?"
- 19:54What a privilege.
- 19:58What a privilege to do anything for God.
- 20:03In our text, but only you, only you.
- 20:07Only you
- 20:09and your sons.
- 20:11My service priests.
- 20:13It's a very select group.
- 20:17Not because we're good, as Pastor
- 20:19Mitchell said. Not Not because we earn
- 20:21it, deserve it, any of that.
- 20:23God has chosen.
- 20:25I am giving you this service as a gift.
- 20:29The almighty God
- 20:31has called us to such a high
- 20:34and elevated position
- 20:36that it seems impossible to me that any
- 20:39of us could possibly
- 20:40spurn this gift or neglect it or view it
- 20:44contemptuously.
- 20:47And yet numbers of Christians sniff at
- 20:49it.
- 20:51Say, "Nah, you know,
- 20:53I don't want to do that."
- 20:55And let me digress for just a moment cuz
- 20:57I've been speaking
- 20:59in very general terms, but
- 21:02I want to really drill down
- 21:05on those who have been called to preach
- 21:09as pastors and missionaries.
- 21:13And there are many who have yet to
- 21:14fulfill that calling.
- 21:18And and you're the you're the ones that
- 21:20I really want to speak earnestly to this
- 21:22morning because you're weighing things.
- 21:25Just as Pastor Mitchell said last night,
- 21:27you're weighing your options. You're
- 21:28weighing possibilities. Here is God
- 21:31saying, "I will give you what no one
- 21:34else can have."
- 21:37"I will honor you
- 21:40with this high calling."
- 21:43And you're thinking, "Nah."
- 21:46I don't know. I don't know if I want to
- 21:47do that.
- 21:49Why would you for a moment
- 21:52put anything that you could do with your
- 21:54life before this calling?
- 21:58What could possibly
- 22:01be of greater value
- 22:03than to serve the eternal God in this
- 22:05calling? Yeah.
- 22:06Listen, I understand the insecurity of
- 22:08it all.
- 22:09I understand, you know, my my
- 22:12my view when I when when I felt God
- 22:14leaning on me, and I'll tell you God
- 22:16lean on when God leans on you, it's like
- 22:17an elephant leaning on you.
- 22:19Right? It's it's this incredible weight,
- 22:21and it just keeps getting heavier and
- 22:23heavier, and God's leaning with me
- 22:25leaning on me, and I'm arguing with him,
- 22:27and I'm saying, "No, but it's not
- 22:28because I had a better plan. It's cuz I
- 22:31thought that's way too high a calling
- 22:33for me."
- 22:34I can't do that.
- 22:36That's way above my pay grade. There's
- 22:39no way in the world I can get up and and
- 22:42speak for you. We've all heard my story
- 22:43of passing out. And you know, the bottom
- 22:48line is I am not cut out for this kind
- 22:52of privilege.
- 22:54I don't think I could possibly do it.
- 22:57But then you have 1 Corinthians 1:26 and
- 23:0028, "Brothers and sisters, think of what
- 23:02you were when you were called.
- 23:05Not many of you were wise by human
- 23:07standards.
- 23:08Not many were influential.
- 23:10Not many were of noble birth.
- 23:13But God chose
- 23:17the foolish things of the world
- 23:19to shame the wise. God chose
- 23:23the weak things of the world to shame
- 23:25the strong. God chose
- 23:28the lowly things of this world and the
- 23:30despised things and the things that are
- 23:32not to nullify the things that are. And
- 23:35when I read that, I realized I fit right
- 23:37in.
- 23:39I am absolutely in the class of 1980.
- 23:44Include me.
- 23:46I realized
- 23:48it's God
- 23:50who has brought us into this place
- 23:53that he fills with his glory.
- 23:56And it it doesn't depend on me at per
- 23:59se. Yeah, yeah, I understand all of the
- 24:02issues of consecration and surrender and
- 24:04study and prayer and all of that. I I
- 24:06get all of that. But at the end of the
- 24:08day, when I get into a pulpit, I am
- 24:12begging God to say something smart.
- 24:19Because I know full well
- 24:24that God has brought me into a holy
- 24:26place.
- 24:29And what an honor.
- 24:32And what a privilege.
- 24:34Why would you
- 24:36say, "Uh, I don't want to do that." I I
- 24:38get the insecurity thing. So, I've
- 24:40already solved that for you. You're an
- 24:42idiot. Uh, so join the idiots.
- 24:45We got plenty of room for you
- 24:47in the class of 1980. We're
- 24:50That's when I I got sent out in '81.
- 24:55Are you thinking of income?
- 24:58Are you thinking of social acceptance?
- 25:02Are you thinking of prestige?
- 25:04Do you suffer from what many of this
- 25:07generation suffer from, the fear of
- 25:09missing out?
- 25:12What is it that would hold you back
- 25:16from answering this call, this
- 25:17privilege? I'm I'm only giving this to
- 25:19certain people.
- 25:21This isn't available for everybody.
- 25:23This is a choosing.
- 25:27What sort of
- 25:29misshapen thinking
- 25:32works in our heads to cause us to think,
- 25:35"Well, you know, that's it's
- 25:36it's a burden."
- 25:39C.S. Lewis wrote in his book The Weight
- 25:41of Glory, or I think it was an essay, he
- 25:43said, "We are half-hearted creatures
- 25:47fooling about with drink and sex and
- 25:49ambition when infinite joy
- 25:52is offered us.
- 25:54Like an ignorant child who wants to go
- 25:56on making mud pies in a slum
- 25:59because he cannot imagine what is meant
- 26:02by the offer of a holiday at the sea."
- 26:05He just plays in a puddle
- 26:08when he could be by the ocean.
- 26:11What could possibly keep you
- 26:14from burning your plow
- 26:16and following Elijah into the prophetic
- 26:19office?
- 26:22Why do you think
- 26:25of a gift
- 26:28as a sacrifice?
- 26:33Why do you think it's such a sacrifice
- 26:37for you to do what God's called you to
- 26:39do?
- 26:41The priestly privilege that Paul that
- 26:43Peter
- 26:45said that angels long to look into.
- 26:49Angels wish they could do what you're
- 26:51saying. I don't think so.
- 26:55To give your life
- 26:59to the service of God, and again, let me
- 27:01broaden it now beyond just those who
- 27:04fill pulpits.
- 27:06Whatever your service before the altar
- 27:08may be,
- 27:10to give your life to that calling and
- 27:13service
- 27:14is the highest possibility of your
- 27:16entire life.
- 27:18Nothing else you do with your life
- 27:20comes even close to this.
- 27:23Amen.
- 27:26So, let me close
- 27:28with one more enticement
- 27:31beyond the incredible privilege of it
- 27:33all.
- 27:34It is only you as a royal priest
- 27:40who can serve inside the curtain,
- 27:44which is a reference to the veil
- 27:46in first the tabernacle and then the
- 27:49temple that separated the holy place
- 27:52from the holy of holies.
- 27:54To To be offered
- 27:56the potential
- 27:58to serve inside the curtain,
- 28:03inside where the ark is, where the glory
- 28:06of God abides.
- 28:11He says that
- 28:12that only comes to those
- 28:15who will fulfill their priestly
- 28:17calling.
- 28:19And it's in giving yourself to God's
- 28:21purposes
- 28:24that you see God's power.
- 28:27And that you begin to encounter God
- 28:30in a very elevated way, and in a way
- 28:33that transcends
- 28:36you know, just coming to church. Listen
- 28:37to me. You You don't understand, and
- 28:39Pastor Mitchell used to say it all the
- 28:41time,
- 28:42that there are people all over the world
- 28:43that wish they could do what you do.
- 28:46They sit in churches.
- 28:48They're not even offered the possibility
- 28:50of serving at the altar.
- 28:53There's no opportunity afforded them.
- 28:55There is nothing There's no chance. They
- 28:57just sit. They come. They're an
- 28:59audience. They behold.
- 29:01And they live
- 29:03on a plane of experience with God
- 29:06that is profoundly limited.
- 29:11When you step inside the veil,
- 29:14when you step into actual ministry
- 29:17before God,
- 29:19that's when
- 29:21basic Christianity becomes
- 29:23breathtaking Christianity.
- 29:27That's when you have the privilege of
- 29:28praying for someone seeing them get
- 29:29healed.
- 29:32Most Christians wouldn't even think
- 29:33about praying for someone to get healed.
- 29:35You get to see it. Some of you seen it
- 29:37so often it's a yawn or for you.
- 29:39Oh,
- 29:40yeah, they got healed.
- 29:46You should be going,
- 29:47"They got healed!"
- 29:51Cuz you didn't heal them.
- 29:54It was God in his glory
- 29:56manifesting himself.
- 29:59You get up in a pulpit and you preach
- 30:01and someone comes up to you and says,
- 30:03"That really helped me." It's like,
- 30:08"You poor demented soul.
- 30:11You must really need help."
- 30:16It's God.
- 30:18It's God.
- 30:20And you experience God
- 30:23when you surrender to the work behind
- 30:24the veil.
- 30:26When you surrender to your priestly
- 30:28calling.
- 30:30When you Whatever that is. Speaking
- 30:32broad terms now. Not everybody here is
- 30:34going to go out and fill a pulpit.
- 30:35That's a high calling, but anything that
- 30:37you do for God
- 30:39is a high calling. And And when you
- 30:42enter into it, when you take it
- 30:44seriously, when you say yes, I will give
- 30:47myself to the service of God on a daily
- 30:50basis,
- 30:52that's when you start experiencing what
- 30:53goes on behind the veil.
- 30:56You start experiencing God in His glory.
- 31:00Exodus 34:29, when Moses came down from
- 31:03Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the
- 31:05covenant law in his hand, he was not
- 31:07aware
- 31:09that his face was radiant because he had
- 31:12spoken
- 31:14with the Lord.
- 31:15He'd been in the presence of God
- 31:17and that presence had inundated him and
- 31:21had overtaken him and he was so full of
- 31:24God and the Holy Ghost that he was
- 31:25glowing.
- 31:28He was glowing and that that glow hung
- 31:30with him for quite some time.
- 31:34Because he'd been in the presence of
- 31:36God, he'd had that opportunity. He was
- 31:38receiving from God instruction for
- 31:40Israel that he was going to take before
- 31:42the people.
- 31:44He was receiving from God the
- 31:45instruction of the tabernacle and how to
- 31:47build it where God would meet with His
- 31:49people. I mean, he's got this
- 31:50incredible, incredible gift that's been
- 31:54given to him. This is for my people.
- 31:56This is what redemption is all about and
- 31:58he comes down and he's glowing
- 32:01because he's living
- 32:03in the service of God.
- 32:061 Kings 8:10-11, when the priests
- 32:09withdrew from the holy place, the cloud
- 32:11filled the temple of the Lord and the
- 32:14priests could not perform their service
- 32:16because of the cloud for the glory of
- 32:19the Lord filled His temple.
- 32:212 Chronicles 5:13-14, the trumpeters and
- 32:25musicians joined in unison to give
- 32:27praise and thanks to the Lord
- 32:29accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and
- 32:32other instruments. The singers raised
- 32:35their voices in praise to the Lord and
- 32:37sang, "He is good. His love endures
- 32:41forever."
- 32:43Here's the entire body entering into the
- 32:46priestly work of offering up praise to
- 32:48God. Do not come to church and hubbub
- 32:51the ceiling.
- 32:54Do not come to your service and go,
- 32:56"Thank you, Lord. I'm My arms are tired.
- 32:58Can we sit down now?"
- 33:02Do not come to church and sniff
- 33:04contemptuously
- 33:06at this time that you're afforded to
- 33:08bring the sacrifice of praise into the
- 33:11presence of God.
- 33:13>> [applause]
- 33:16>> Do not pretend that you have done what
- 33:19is required of you because you sang a
- 33:21song. While they sang, they praised,
- 33:25they glorified, and listen to this,
- 33:29then the temple of the Lord was filled
- 33:32with the cloud.
- 33:33And the priests could not perform their
- 33:36service because of the cloud for the
- 33:38glory of the Lord
- 33:41filled the temple.
- 33:44You want church or you want to meet with
- 33:46God?
- 33:49You want to come sit in your cushy seat
- 33:52or do you want God to get hold of your
- 33:54face and rip it off?
- 33:58>> [screaming]
- 34:01>> I want God.
- 34:03I want God. How did they get God?
- 34:06They began to worship. They didn't just
- 34:07sing uh frothy ditties.
- 34:11They sang the glory of God.
- 34:14They sang the glory of God right into
- 34:16the place.
- 34:18We should do that every service.
- 34:20You should sing the glory of God into
- 34:22your service and then you should be
- 34:24gobsmacked by what's going on.
- 34:27And begin to lift your voice in praise
- 34:29and adoration and unrelenting worship.
- 34:32And who knows? maybe God will set the
- 34:34roof of your church on fire.
- 34:39Wouldn't you like that?
- 34:43Yeah, you would.
- 34:44Even if you haven't ever experienced it,
- 34:45you would.
- 34:48You're priests.
- 34:50And you're going to meet God
- 34:52when you start living as priests.
- 34:56When you start doing what priests are
- 34:57supposed to do.
- 34:59Can you imagine being the high priest?
- 35:02Once a year, Yom Kippur.
- 35:05You're going to go in
- 35:06to what's behind the veil.
- 35:08That's got to be freaky.
- 35:10You know, tradition tells us they tied a
- 35:11rope around his ankle.
- 35:14So that if he got in there and God
- 35:15killed him,
- 35:17they could drag his body out
- 35:20without having to go into that fearful,
- 35:22wonderful, glorious place.
- 35:25You're the priest.
- 35:27Once a year,
- 35:29you're able to come in.
- 35:31And there's the mercy seat.
- 35:34And there's the glory of God seated on
- 35:37the mercy seat.
- 35:39You step into that.
- 35:42You can't breathe.
- 35:45The weight of it. The sheer blinding
- 35:48glory of it.
- 35:51And you've been called to come into this
- 35:52place.
- 35:55And offer the blood.
- 35:57And bring cleansing
- 35:59to a people who desperately need
- 36:01cleansing.
- 36:04And it's all
- 36:06your privilege.
- 36:09Your privilege. It's a gift. I'm I'm
- 36:11giving you this gift
- 36:13to bring in the blood.
- 36:15I'm giving you the gift
- 36:19of the weight of this ministry.
- 36:21Can you imagine what a transcendent
- 36:24experience that would be?
- 36:27Can you imagine the awe?
- 36:30I have a vivid imagination.
- 36:34And I think about the glory of God
- 36:39and the ministry [snorts]
- 36:40before God, and I marvel.
- 36:43And when we embrace our priestly
- 36:45privilege,
- 36:47when we mere mortals
- 36:50step into our pulpits
- 36:53or step into our prayer closets
- 36:56or step into our church to worship him
- 36:59or step into our study,
- 37:02we are trafficking in holy things.
- 37:05When we gather with the ecclesia
- 37:08and we enthrone God on our praises,
- 37:12we are trafficking in holy things.
- 37:17When we stand between the souls of men
- 37:20and eternity
- 37:22and proclaim the excellencies
- 37:24of him who has called us
- 37:27out of darkness into marvelous light,
- 37:31we traffic in holy things.
- 37:34Holy things.
- 37:36Things angels wish they could get their
- 37:38head around.
- 37:40That's what we're doing.
- 37:42And so often we don't even know it.
- 37:45We don't even think about it.
- 37:47We're just going through the motions.
- 37:50Matthew 25:37-40:
- 37:53Then the righteous will answer him,
- 37:54"Lord, when did we see you hungry and
- 37:56feed you or thirsty and give you
- 37:58something to drink? When did we see you
- 38:00a stranger and invite you in or needing
- 38:02clothes and clothe you?
- 38:04When did we see you sick or in prison
- 38:06and go to visit you?"
- 38:08The king will reply, "Truly I tell you,
- 38:10whatever you did
- 38:12for one of the least of these brothers
- 38:15and sisters of mine,
- 38:17you did for me.
- 38:19You did
- 38:20for me."
- 38:24You will serving the almighty.
- 38:29You know, when we serve as priests
- 38:32in connection with everything at the
- 38:33altar and inside the curtain and the
- 38:35glory of God,
- 38:37we often mistake the miraculous
- 38:41for the mundane.
- 38:44We lose
- 38:47the wonder
- 38:49of what it is that we're doing.
- 38:52It becomes common.
- 38:54And when it becomes common, the next
- 38:56step is contemptuous.
- 38:59When what you're doing is just religious
- 39:01business as usual,
- 39:03little by little,
- 39:05that glory's going to fade.
- 39:08And you can become a religious creature.
- 39:12Don't ever
- 39:14make the mistake
- 39:17of viewing the miraculous as the
- 39:18mundane. Don't ever view
- 39:22the fact that you are able to bear
- 39:24witness to the resurrected Christ
- 39:27as mundane.
- 39:30Or you're able to come in with your
- 39:32brothers and sisters and worship and
- 39:34shake off the dust of the day and shake
- 39:37off the madness that you've been dealing
- 39:39with for the last
- 39:41week and come into the presence of God
- 39:46and lift your voice and be heard.
- 39:50Heard in heaven.
- 39:52Heard in heaven.
- 39:55Don't ever mistake coming to morning
- 39:57prayer
- 39:59as some burdensome thing, some mundane
- 40:02ritual.
- 40:04Your prayers are being captured in
- 40:06vials,
- 40:08saved in heavenly treasuries. What
- 40:11you're doing isn't a waste of time.
- 40:14It's not fulfilling a some pattern. It
- 40:18is getting before the almighty God.
- 40:22>> [applause]

- 40:29>> Revelation 21
- 40:32says I saw the holy city, the new
- 40:34Jerusalem coming down out of heaven
- 40:38from God, prepared as a bride,
- 40:42beautifully dressed
- 40:44for her husband. And I heard a loud
- 40:46voice
- 40:47from the throne saying,
- 40:50"Look,
- 40:52God's dwelling place
- 40:55is now
- 40:57among the people.
- 41:00And he will dwell
- 41:02with them. They will be his people,
- 41:06and God himself will be with them
- 41:09and be their God.
- 41:13That would be such a mind-blowing
- 41:15statement
- 41:17to any Jew
- 41:19who understood, "Oh, no, no, no. You
- 41:21You can't be in the place where God
- 41:24dwells.
- 41:25That's how you die."
- 41:27And God says, "No longer.
- 41:30I'm going to dwell

- 41:33And you're going to dwell with me.
- 41:35And we are going to dwell together, and
- 41:38we're going to blow the lid off this
- 41:39planet."
- 41:42That's what the church is. That's what
- 41:43you are.
- 41:45God's dwelling place.
- 41:48Ministering behind the curtain
- 41:52in that sacred place of glory.
- 41:56Where we have a gift
