- 0:00One day my pastor passed [music] a
- 0:02church sign that grabbed his attention.
- 0:05He shared it with the congregation and
- 0:07it has given us a [music] life-changing
- 0:09perspective.
- 0:11Every morning when your eyes open before
- 0:14you check your phone, before you review
- 0:16your schedule, before [music]
- 0:17you think about yesterday's mistakes or
- 0:20today's responsibilities,
- 0:22there's a simple truth you need to
- 0:24remember.
- 0:25You woke up with two things,
- 0:27a chance
- 0:29and a choice.
- 0:30A chance [music] because God allowed you
- 0:32to see another day
- 0:34and a choice
- 0:36because what [music] you do with that
- 0:37day is up to you.
- 0:40The fact that you're breathing right now
- 0:43is evidence that God's mercy showed up
- 0:45before you did.
- 0:46The fact that your heart is beating,
- 0:48your lungs are working, that you're
- 0:50privy [music] to these words,
- 0:53all that means heaven has given you
- 0:55another opportunity.
- 0:57Another opportunity [music] to grow,
- 1:00another opportunity to learn, to love,
- 1:03to obey,
- 1:04to become more like Christ.
- 1:07Some people didn't get [music] this day.
- 1:10Some plans were interrupted.
- 1:12Some stories reached their [music] final
- 1:15chapter,
- 1:16but you're still here.
- 1:19That means
- 1:21God is not [music] finished with you
- 1:23yet.
- 1:25Lamentations 3 verses 22 through [music]
- 1:2723 says,
- 1:30"Through the Lord's mercies we are not
- 1:33consumed
- 1:34because his compassions [music]
- 1:35fail not.
- 1:37They are new every morning.
- 1:40Great is your faithfulness."
- 1:42Notice what [music] the scripture says.
- 1:45His mercies are new every morning. Not
- 1:48every month, not every year,
- 1:50>> [music]
- 1:50>> every morning.
- 1:52That means every sunrise is carrying
- 1:55[music] fresh mercy,
- 1:56fresh grace,
- 1:58fresh compassion, [snorts]
- 2:00fresh opportunity.
- 2:02God doesn't wake you up because you've
- 2:04done everything right.
- 2:06He wakes you up because he's right.
- 2:09He wakes you up because he's faithful.
- 2:12He gives you another chance because
- 2:14that's who he [music] is.
- 2:16How many times have we promised God we'd
- 2:18do better and then we failed?
- 2:21How many times have we known the right
- 2:22thing to do but still chosen the wrong
- 2:24thing?
- 2:26How many times have we allowed fear,
- 2:28pride, insecurity, anger, laziness,
- 2:32distraction, or possibly unforgiveness
- 2:35to get the best of us?
- 2:37Yet somehow, somehow his mercy
- 2:41kept showing [music] up.
- 2:43Somehow his grace kept finding us.
- 2:46Somehow he kept giving us another
- 2:48chance. [music]
- 2:49Peter,
- 2:50he denied Jesus three times.
- 2:53David committed serious [music]
- 2:54sin. Jonah ran from God's assignment.
- 2:57Moses made mistakes. Yet God [music]
- 2:59continued to meet each of them.
- 3:02He met them with correction, with
- 3:04restoration,
- 3:05>> [music]
- 3:05>> and another opportunity to walk in
- 3:07purpose. Not because their failures were
- 3:09insignificant.
- 3:11Not because God lowered his standards,
- 3:14but because God's grace [music]
- 3:17is greater than our failures.
- 3:19Romans 5:20 says, "But where sin
- 3:21abounded,
- 3:23grace abounded much more."
- 3:26What an incredible God we serve.
- 3:29What an amazing grace he gives.
- 3:33Every morning, he places a [music] gift
- 3:36in our hands called today.
- 3:39Then he allows us
- 3:41to decide what we'll do with it.
- 3:43That's where the choice comes in.
- 3:46You see, every day we receive a chance
- 3:48from God,
- 3:50but we also make choices [music]
- 3:52in the presence of God.
- 3:54We choose what will dominate our
- 3:56thoughts. We choose what attitude will
- 3:59carry.
- 4:00We choose whether we'll complain or be
- 4:03grateful.
- 4:04We choose whether we'll hold on to
- 4:06bitterness or extend love and
- 4:08forgiveness.
- 4:10We choose whether we'll [music] focus on
- 4:12our problems or we'll magnify our God.
- 4:16We choose [music] whether we'll pursue
- 4:18God's will or be led by our own.
- 4:21The day
- 4:23it may bring unexpected challenges, but
- 4:25our response [music] to the day is still
- 4:28a choice.
- 4:29The circumstances may not be our choice,
- 4:31but our attitude is.
- 4:33The obstacle may not be our choice, but
- 4:36our perspective [music]
- 4:36is.
- 4:38That storm
- 4:39it may not be our choice,
- 4:42but to walk in our faith is.
- 4:45Joshua challenged to God's people with
- 4:47these words [music]
- 4:49in Joshua 24:15.
- 4:51Choose for yourselves [music] this day
- 4:55whom you will serve.
- 4:56Not tomorrow.
- 4:58Don't wait till next [music] week to
- 4:59choose.
- 5:01Not when life gets easier.
- 5:03Choose this day.
- 5:06And every day presents new decisions.
- 5:09[music]
- 5:10So what will you do with it?
- 5:12Will you choose faith or fear?
- 5:15Will you choose obedience or compromise?
- 5:18Will you choose worship
- 5:20or worry?
- 5:22Will you choose hope or despair?
- 5:25Will you choose God's way
- 5:27or will you choose your own way?
- 5:30The beautiful [music] thing
- 5:32is that God never forces himself on us.
- 5:37His love requires choice.
- 5:40That relationship
- 5:43requires choice.
- 5:45Obedience
- 5:47requires [music] choice.
- 5:50Every morning
- 5:51God says, "Here's another chance."
- 5:54Then he lovingly asks,
- 5:56"What will you do with it? What will you
- 5:59choose?"
- 6:00Some people spend so much time
- 6:01regretting yesterday
- 6:04that they never fully embrace today's
- 6:05opportunity. [music]
- 6:07They continue to replay old failures.
- 6:10They revisit old wounds. They
- 6:12>> [music]
- 6:12>> rehearse all the old disappointments.
- 6:15Meanwhile, today's chance is not fully
- 6:18acknowledged or embraced.
- 6:20The enemy wants to keep you trapped
- 6:22[music] in yesterday.
- 6:24But God desires for you to engage in
- 6:27today.
- 6:28Philippians 3:13-14 [music]
- 6:31says,
- 6:32"Brethren, I do not count [music] myself
- 6:34to have apprehended,
- 6:36but one thing I do,
- 6:38forgetting those things which are behind
- 6:40and reaching forward
- 6:42to those things which are ahead.
- 6:45I press toward the goal for the prize
- 6:48of the upward [music] call of God in
- 6:49Christ Jesus."
- 6:52Notice Paul didn't say he denied the
- 6:54past existed. [music]
- 6:56He simply refused to let it dictate his
- 6:58future.
- 6:59You can't change yesterday's [music]
- 7:00choices,
- 7:02but you can make better choices today.
- 7:05You can't relive yesterday's
- 7:06opportunities,
- 7:08but you can maximize today's.
- 7:11You cannot undo what happened,
- 7:13but you can decide [music] what happens
- 7:15next.
- 7:17That's the power
- 7:19of a chance and a choice. [music]
- 7:21Just imagine
- 7:23how different our lives might be if we
- 7:25woke up each morning and intentionally
- 7:26[music]
- 7:27chose gratitude.
- 7:29What if instead of saying,
- 7:31"Ooh, I have to go to work."
- 7:33We said, "Thank you, Lord, for providing
- 7:35a job."
- 7:37What if instead of saying,
- 7:39"I have to take care of my family."
- 7:41We said, "Thank you, Lord, for blessing
- 7:43me with people to love.
- 7:46What if instead of focusing on what's
- 7:47missing, [music]
- 7:49we focused on what remains?
- 7:52Instead of dwelling on what went wrong,
- 7:54what might happen
- 7:56if we celebrated [music]
- 7:57God for what he's still doing?
- 8:00Every day
- 8:02gives us the choice to magnify
- 8:03something.
- 8:05We can magnify [music] our problems,
- 8:07or we can magnify our God.
- 8:10Psalm 34:3 [music]
- 8:12says, "Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
- 8:15and let us exalt his name [music]
- 8:18together."
- 8:19God hasn't changed. His power hasn't
- 8:23changed. His promises haven't changed.
- 8:25[music] God's faithfulness,
- 8:27it has not changed. The only question is
- 8:32the only question
- 8:33is what we'll choose to focus on.
- 8:36[music]
- 8:37You have a chance today.
- 8:39A chance to encourage someone.
- 8:42A chance to apologize.
- 8:44To forgive. To begin again.
- 8:47You have a chance to obey God.
- 8:50A chance to trust him more deeply.
- 8:52To pray more fervently. To worship more
- 8:55freely.
- 8:56To love more wholeheartedly.
- 8:59You have a chance to become.
- 9:02And not only [music]
- 9:04do you have a chance,
- 9:06you have a choice.
- 9:08You can waste [music] the opportunity,
- 9:10or you can steward it.
- 9:12You can complain about the day,
- 9:15or you can use it.
- 9:17You can drift through it,
- 9:19or you can purposefully walk through it.
- 9:23You can simply [music] exist,
- 9:25or you can truly live.
- 9:28Jesus said in John 10:10, [music] "I
- 9:30have come
- 9:31that they may have life,
- 9:33and that they may have it more [music]
- 9:34abundantly."
- 9:36That's not survival.
- 9:38That's abundant living.
- 9:41That's waking up every morning
- 9:42understanding that [music] life
- 9:44is a gift from God
- 9:47and that [music] purpose is waiting for
- 9:48you.
- 9:49The truth is
- 9:51that one day all of us will wake up for
- 9:53the final time
- 9:54on this side [music]
- 9:56of eternity.
- 9:57One day
- 9:59our opportunities here will be complete.
- 10:02One day
- 10:03our earthly choices will be finished.
- 10:07So, why waste today's chance?
- 10:10Why delay obedience?
- 10:13Why postpone [music]
- 10:14forgiveness?
- 10:16Why hold back your worship?
- 10:19Why continue carrying things that God
- 10:21has told [music] you to release?
- 10:24Why settle for less
- 10:26when God has called you [music] to more?
- 10:29Today matters.
- 10:32>> [music]
- 10:32>> This moment matters.
- 10:35This choice matters.
- 10:38Don't wait until next year
- 10:40to become who God [music] is calling you
- 10:42to be.
- 10:43Start today.
- 10:45Don't wait for perfect conditions.
- 10:48They don't [music] exist.
- 10:50Start today.
- 10:53>> [music]
- 10:53>> Don't wait until the fear disappears.
- 10:55Start today.
- 10:57Don't wait until every answer arrives.
- 11:00No.
- 11:01Start today.
- 11:03God has already given you something
- 11:05priceless.
- 11:06He's given you another chance.
- 11:09Now you make the choice.
- 11:11>> [music]
- 11:11>> Choose faith. Choose joy. Choose
- 11:13gratitude. Choose obedience.
- 11:16Choose hope,
- 11:18forgiveness,
- 11:19purpose.
- 11:21They're all yours to choose.
- 11:24Most importantly,
- 11:26choose Christ.
- 11:28And when tomorrow [music] comes, if God
- 11:30grants it,
- 11:31do it all over again.
- 11:33Because every sunrise is a reminder
- 11:36that God's mercy showed up before you
- 11:38did.
- 11:39Every breath is proof
- 11:41that purpose still remains.
- 11:44Every day
- 11:45is another [music] chance.
- 11:47Every day is another choice.
- 11:50Let's make them count.
- 11:53Father,
- 11:54thank you
- 11:55for the gift of another day.
- 11:58Thank you for mercy that is new every
- 12:00morning and grace that continually
- 12:02reaches places in our lives where we
- 12:04still need growth.
- 12:07Thank you that you've not treated us
- 12:08according [music] to our failures,
- 12:10but according to your love and your
- 12:12faithfulness.
- 12:14We acknowledge today
- 12:16that every breath we breathe
- 12:19is a gift [music] from you.
- 12:21Lord, forgive us for the opportunities
- 12:23we've wasted,
- 12:25for the moments [music] we've taken for
- 12:26granted,
- 12:28for the choices we made
- 12:30that did not honor you.
- 12:33Forgive us for complaining when we could
- 12:35have been grateful,
- 12:37for doubting when we could have trusted,
- 12:40for hesitating
- 12:41when we should have quickly [music]
- 12:42obeyed.
- 12:44Cleanse our hearts, Lord.
- 12:46Renew a right spirit within us.
- 12:49Your word says in Deuteronomy 30:19,
- 12:52"I've set before [music] you life and
- 12:54death, blessing and cursing.
- 12:57Therefore, choose life
- 12:59that both you and your descendants
- 13:01[music] may live."
- 13:03Lord,
- 13:04help us choose life.
- 13:06Help us choose faith when fear [music]
- 13:08comes.
- 13:09Help us choose hope when discouragement
- 13:11knocks.
- 13:12Help us choose worship when worry
- 13:15[music] tries to dominate our minds.
- 13:18Father, teach us to steward every
- 13:20opportunity you place before us.
- 13:23Give us eyes to see the people [music]
- 13:24who need encouragement.
- 13:26Give us ears to hear your voice.
- 13:29Give us wisdom to recognize [music]
- 13:31divine opportunities.
- 13:34And give us courage
- 13:35to obey [music] quickly
- 13:37and completely.
- 13:40Lord, let us never become so focused on
- 13:42yesterday that [music] we miss what
- 13:44you're doing today.
- 13:46Heal old wounds.
- 13:48Break old chains.
- 13:50Remove old mindsets.
- 13:54Help [music] us press forward into
- 13:56everything you have prepared for us.
- 13:59As Psalm 90:12 says,
- 14:02"So teach us to number our days
- 14:05that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
- 14:08Teach us to value our time, Lord.
- 14:11To use our lives well.
- 14:13Teach us to make choices [music] that
- 14:15bring glory to your name.
- 14:17Father, today we choose you again.
- 14:20We choose your will over our own.
- 14:23We choose your [music] truth
- 14:25over the lies the enemy has spoken to
- 14:27us.
- 14:29We choose gratitude [music] over
- 14:30complaining.
- 14:31Faith over fear. And purpose [music]
- 14:35over passivity.
- 14:37May our lives reflect [music] the
- 14:39goodness of you, God.
- 14:42The one who keeps giving us another
- 14:43chance.
- 14:45And when people see us,
- 14:47may they see the evidence [music] of
- 14:49your grace,
- 14:50your mercy,
- 14:52your transforming power.
- 14:54And may it be abundantly clear
- 14:56that we've made a choice.
- 14:58And that choice [music] is you.
- 15:01We thank you for today's chance.
- 15:04We thank you for today's [music] choice.
- 15:07And by the power of your spirit,
- 15:09Father, we commit
- 15:11to making both count.
- 15:14In Jesus' name.
- 15:16Amen.
- 15:19>> Emotions are powerful.
- 15:22And I mean truly powerful. [music]
- 15:25I've seen people so happy, their faces
- 15:28were [music] covered in tears.
- 15:30Tears of joy streaming down their cheeks
- 15:32because their hearts were overflowing
- 15:34with gratitude.
- 15:36I've seen people so distraught and
- 15:38filled with sorrow,
- 15:39>> [music]
- 15:40>> they couldn't string together two words.
- 15:43The pain was so deep that language
- 15:45failed them.
- 15:46And I've seen others so inspired and
- 15:48motivated that they [music] could work
- 15:50day and night tirelessly to accomplish
- 15:53something they believed in.
- 15:55Emotions can drive you to greatness.
- 15:59But emotions can also destroy you from
- 16:02the inside out.
- 16:05The evangelist Billy Graham once made a
- 16:06statement that stayed with me.
- 16:08>> [music]
- 16:08>> He said that 75% of patients in
- 16:11hospitals would be made whole
- 16:13if they would only forgive.
- 16:1775%.
- 16:19Think about that.
- 16:21Three out of every four patients could
- 16:22potentially be healed.
- 16:24>> [music]
- 16:24>> Not by a new medication, not by a new
- 16:26procedure, but by releasing the toxic
- 16:28emotions they've been carrying.
- 16:32Unforgiveness,
- 16:33bitterness,
- 16:34resentment, anger.
- 16:37These are not just spiritual problems.
- 16:39[music]
- 16:40They manifest physically. They show up
- 16:43in the body.
- 16:44They make us sick.
- 16:47The Bible says in Proverbs 14:30,
- 16:50"A heart at peace gives life to the
- 16:52body,
- 16:54but envy rots the bones."
- 16:58"A heart at peace gives life,
- 17:00but envy rots the [music] bones."
- 17:04An internal emotion
- 17:06producing an external
- 17:07>> [music]
- 17:07>> physical result.
- 17:10What you carry in your heart
- 17:12will eventually show in your body.
- 17:15Peace gives life.
- 17:18But bitterness, jealousy, and
- 17:20unforgiveness,
- 17:22they rot [music] you from the inside.
- 17:26Now, I want to draw your attention to
- 17:27something the Bible says in Hebrews
- 17:28[music] chapter 12:14-15.
- 17:33Pursue peace with all people
- 17:36and holiness, without which no one will
- 17:38see the Lord.
- 17:40Looking carefully lest anyone fall short
- 17:43of the grace of God.
- 17:45Lest any [music] root of bitterness
- 17:46springing up cause trouble.
- 17:49And by this many become defiled.
- 17:54Now, notice something important about
- 17:55this verse.
- 17:57It doesn't just warn us to be cautious
- 17:58of bitterness itself, it warns us to be
- 18:01cautious of the root [music]
- 18:03of bitterness.
- 18:04The root.
- 18:07Now, the root of a plant is not visible
- 18:08to the naked [music] eye. It grows
- 18:10underground, in the dark, out of sight.
- 18:14You may only become aware that a seed
- 18:16was planted when you see the fruit above
- 18:18the surface.
- 18:19But by then the root system is already
- 18:21deep and entangled.
- 18:24And so when the Bible says, "See to
- 18:26[music] it that no root of bitterness
- 18:28springs up."
- 18:29It's telling us that this emotion is so
- 18:32destructive, [music]
- 18:33so dangerous
- 18:35that it needs to be uprooted the moment
- 18:38the seed germinates.
- 18:40Don't wait until you see the fruit.
- 18:43Don't wait until bitterness has spread
- 18:45through every area of your life. Cut it
- 18:48off at the root.
- 18:51Because if you let it grow
- 18:53it'll cause trouble.
- 18:55And by it
- 18:56>> [music]
- 18:56>> many will become defiled.
- 18:59Not just you.
- 19:00Many.
- 19:02Bitterness doesn't stay contained. It
- 19:04leaks. It contaminates your
- 19:06relationships. It poisons your marriage.
- 19:09It infects your friendships.
- 19:11It affects your children.
- 19:13It defiles [music] everyone it touches.
- 19:17Now, think about Joseph.
- 19:20If anyone had a right to be bitter,
- 19:21>> [music]
- 19:22>> it was this man.
- 19:24His own brothers threw him into a pit.
- 19:26They sold him into slavery. They told
- 19:29his father he was dead. And for years,
- 19:32Joseph suffered.
- 19:34Slavery,
- 19:36false accusations, prison,
- 19:39forgotten by the one man who promised to
- 19:42remember [music] him.
- 19:44Joseph had every justification to let
- 19:46bitterness just take root. Every reason
- 19:49to hold on to resentment and let it grow
- 19:51into a forest of hatred.
- 19:54But he didn't.
- 19:56When Joseph finally stood before his
- 19:58brothers years later,
- 19:59as the second most [music] powerful man
- 20:01in Egypt,
- 20:03he had every opportunity for revenge.
- 20:07But listen to what he said.
- 20:09Genesis 50:19-21 [music]
- 20:12reads,
- 20:15"But Joseph said to them,
- 20:17'Do not fear,
- 20:18for I am in the place of God.
- 20:22As for you,
- 20:23you meant evil against me.
- 20:25But God meant it for good
- 20:28to bring it about that many people
- 20:29[music] should be kept alive as they are
- 20:31today.
- 20:33So, do not fear.
- 20:35I will provide for you and your little
- 20:37ones.'
- 20:39Thus,
- 20:39>> [music]
- 20:39>> he comforted them and spoke kindly to
- 20:42them.
- 20:44He comforted them.
- 20:46He spoke kindly to them.
- 20:49The ones who had tried to destroy his
- 20:50life,
- 20:51>> [music]
- 20:52>> he forgave.
- 20:53He fed their families. He wept over
- 20:56them.
- 20:57He chose [music] to let go of
- 20:58bitterness,
- 21:00and it set him free.
- 21:03If Joseph had held on to that
- 21:04bitterness, it would have rotted him
- 21:06from the inside.
- 21:09He had the power to destroy [music] his
- 21:11brothers, but the unforgiveness would
- 21:13have destroyed him first.
- 21:16And think about the ultimate example of
- 21:18forgiveness.
- 21:19Jesus Christ on the cross.
- 21:22Beaten, mocked, spat upon,
- 21:25stripped, nailed to wood,
- 21:28crucified between two criminals,
- 21:31innocent in every way.
- 21:34And yet,
- 21:35in the middle of the most
- 21:36>> [music]
- 21:36>> agonizing suffering any human being has
- 21:39ever endured,
- 21:41Jesus looked down at the very people who
- 21:43were killing him and said,
- 21:46"Father, forgive them,
- 21:48for they do not know what they are
- 21:50doing."
- 21:53"Father, forgive them."
- 21:55Not "Father, punish them."
- 21:58Not [music] "Father, remember what
- 21:59they've done."
- 22:02"Forgive them."
- 22:04If Jesus could forgive the men drove
- 22:06nails through his hands,
- 22:08then by his grace,
- 22:10you can forgive the person who hurt you.
- 22:13Now, I'm not saying [music] it's easy.
- 22:16I'm not saying the pain isn't real.
- 22:19I'm saying that holding on to bitterness
- 22:21is [music] like drinking poison and
- 22:23expecting the other person to die.
- 22:26It doesn't hurt them.
- 22:28It hurts you.
- 22:30And Jesus is offering you the grace
- 22:32>> [music]
- 22:32>> to let it go.
- 22:35Think about Stephen,
- 22:37the first Christian martyr.
- 22:39In Acts chapter 7, as the crowd picked
- 22:41up stones [music] and hurled them at his
- 22:43body,
- 22:44as the life was leaving him,
- 22:46Stephen cried out, "Lord, do not hold
- 22:49this sin against them."
- 22:52He was being murdered, and his dying
- 22:55prayer was for the forgiveness of his
- 22:57killers.
- 22:59Among those who witnessed that moment,
- 23:02holding the [music] coats of those who
- 23:03stoned Stephen, was a young man named
- 23:06Saul.
- 23:08And that prayer
- 23:09may well have been one of the seeds
- 23:11[music] that eventually led to Saul's
- 23:12conversion on the road to Damascus.
- 23:16The man who became the Apostle Paul,
- 23:19one of the greatest missionaries [music]
- 23:21in the history of the church.
- 23:24Stephen's forgiveness
- 23:26>> [music]
- 23:26>> didn't just set Stephen free.
- 23:29It planted a seed in the heart of a
- 23:31future apostle.
- 23:34That is the power of letting go.
- 23:37That's what happens when you refuse
- 23:38[music] to let bitterness take root.
- 23:41And so, dear friend,
- 23:43I am aware that in this life all of us
- 23:45will experience unpleasant emotions at
- 23:47one point or another.
- 23:49We'll experience [music] the pain of
- 23:51betrayal.
- 23:52We'll experience heartache and loss. We
- 23:54might even suffer maltreatment and
- 23:56injustice.
- 23:59But my message [music] to you today is
- 24:00this.
- 24:02Learn to forgive.
- 24:04Learn to let go.
- 24:06Don't hold on to everything negative
- 24:08that people do to you.
- 24:10Don't carry the weight of what was done
- 24:12to you 10 years ago.
- 24:14Don't let the bitterness of last year
- 24:16rot the bones of this year.
- 24:18Don't live a life where you are
- 24:20imprisoned by toxic emotions.
- 24:24The Bible says in Ephesians 4:31-32,
- 24:28"Get [music] rid of all bitterness,
- 24:30rage, and anger,
- 24:32brawling and slander,
- 24:35along with every form of malice.
- 24:38Be kind and compassionate to one
- 24:40another,
- 24:41forgiving each other,
- 24:42just as in Christ God forgave you."
- 24:47Just as in Christ God forgave you.
- 24:52That is the standard. That is the
- 24:55[music] measure.
- 24:57You forgive others
- 24:59because God
- 24:59>> [music]
- 25:00>> first forgave you.
- 25:02And the same grace that allowed God to
- 25:04forgive your sins is the same grace that
- 25:06will enable you to forgive the [music]
- 25:07person who hurt you.
- 25:11Jesus Christ offers you peace.
- 25:13He offers you joy.
- 25:15He offers you victory [music] despite
- 25:17what people have done to you.
- 25:19In Jesus, you can have freedom.
- 25:21You can have life
- 25:23and have it more abundantly.
- 25:26But you have to let go of what is
- 25:28holding you captive. You have to release
- 25:30[music] the bitterness.
- 25:31You have to uproot the root.
- 25:35Now, let us pray.
- 25:38Lord Jesus, we come before you today and
- 25:41we ask for your grace.
- 25:43The grace to forgive.
- 25:44The grace [music] to let go.
- 25:46The grace to release every person who
- 25:48has hurt us and every memory [music]
- 25:50that has imprisoned us.
- 25:53Father, someone listening today has been
- 25:54betrayed. [music]
- 25:55And I pray that you would heal them,
- 25:57Lord.
- 25:58Let them know that you will never
- 25:59abandon them.
- 26:01That you'll never turn your back on
- 26:02them.
- 26:03That even though people have failed
- 26:05them,
- 26:05>> [music]
- 26:05>> you never will.
- 26:08Someone listening has been the recipient
- 26:09of hurtful words.
- 26:11Evil words spoken against them.
- 26:14Spoken about [music] them.
- 26:16Words that cut deep and left scars that
- 26:19no one else can see.
- 26:21Lord, I ask that your healing hand would
- 26:23mend every heart and every ear that has
- 26:26been on the receiving end of cruelty.
- 26:30Help us to forgive.
- 26:32Let there be no [music] bitterness in
- 26:34our hearts. Let there be no malice.
- 26:37Let there be no jealousy or hatred.
- 26:40Instead, Lord Jesus, heal our wounds.
- 26:44Every wound inflicted by our enemies.
- 26:46>> [music]
- 26:46>> Every wound inflicted by our friends.
- 26:49Even the wounds inflicted by loved ones.
- 26:52Make us [music] whole and fill our
- 26:54hearts with love.
- 26:56Father, uproot [music] every root of
- 26:58bitterness and resentment in our hearts.
- 27:01Uproot every memory [music] linked to
- 27:02toxic emotions.
- 27:04Pull them out at the root, Lord,
- 27:06before they spread any [music] further,
- 27:08before they defile any more
- 27:10relationships, before they rot any more
- 27:12bones.
- 27:15Like Joseph, give us the grace [music]
- 27:16to look at those who hurt us and say,
- 27:20"What you meant for evil,
- 27:21God meant for good."
- 27:25Like Jesus on the cross,
- 27:27give us the grace to say, "Father,
- 27:29forgive them."
- 27:31Like Stephen, as the stones [music]
- 27:33fell,
- 27:34give us the grace to pray for those who
- 27:36persecute us.
- 27:38Teach us to love.
- 27:40Help us to live by your word, which
- 27:43tells us to love our neighbors.
- 27:45Give us the grace, Lord Jesus, to live
- 27:48and to love according to [music] 1
- 27:50Corinthians 13:4-8.
- 27:53Love suffers long
- 27:55>> [music]
- 27:55>> and is kind.
- 27:57Love does not envy.
- 27:59Love does [music] not parade itself.
- 28:02Is not puffed up.
- 28:04Does not behave rudely.
- 28:06Does not seek its own.
- 28:08Is not provoked.
- 28:09Thinks no [music] evil.
- 28:12Does not rejoice in iniquity, but
- 28:14rejoices in the truth.
- 28:16Bears all things. Believes all things.
- 28:21Hopes all things.
- 28:23Endures all things.
- 28:26Love never fails.
- 28:29Give us this type of love in our hearts,
- 28:31Jesus, so that when others do evil to
- 28:34us, we can respond with love.
- 28:37When others speak negatively about us,
- 28:39>> [music]
- 28:39>> give us great grace,
- 28:41so that we may love them regardless.
- 28:44Lord, I pray for every person listening
- 28:46right now who feels rejected [music]
- 28:48and unwanted.
- 28:50Heal every wound inflicted by the
- 28:52actions of others.
- 28:54To those who feel low,
- 28:56lift up their spirit.
- 28:57To those who are sad and have a heavy
- 28:59heart,
- 29:01remove their burdens, Lord Jesus.
- 29:02[music]
- 29:03Help us to let go.
- 29:06Give us the strength to practice [music]
- 29:08forgiveness.
- 29:10Give us the grace to practice real love
- 29:12in our lives.
- 29:14We declare your word in Romans 12:9-12.
- 29:16[music]
- 29:18Love must be sincere.
- 29:21Hate what is evil.
- 29:23Cling to what is [music] good.
- 29:26Be devoted to one another in love.
- 29:28Honor one another above yourselves.
- 29:31Never be [music] lacking in zeal,
- 29:33but keep your spiritual fervor serving
- 29:36the [music] Lord.
- 29:37Be joyful in hope,
- 29:39patient in affliction,
- 29:42faithful in prayer.
- 29:45Help us [music] to do this, Lord. Help
- 29:48us to love sincerely. Help us to cling
- 29:50to what is good and to hate what is
- 29:53evil.
- 29:54Help us to be [music] devoted to one
- 29:55another in love.
- 29:58We praise you, Lord, because you're the
- 30:00God who heals.
- 30:02You heal broken bodies.
- 30:03>> [music]
- 30:03>> You heal broken hearts.
- 30:06And you heal the wounds that bitterness
- 30:07has caused.
- 30:10We praise you because you forgave us
- 30:12first.
- 30:14While we were yet sinners, Christ died
- 30:17for us.
- 30:18And if you could forgive us at our
- 30:20worst, [music]
- 30:21you can give us the grace to forgive
- 30:23others at theirs.
- 30:25We praise you
- 30:27because in you
- 30:28there is freedom.
- 30:29Freedom from bitterness.
- 30:31Freedom from resentment.
- 30:34Freedom from every toxic emotion that
- 30:37has held us captive.
- 30:39And today,
- 30:40we choose that freedom.
- 30:43May the blood of Jesus [music] Christ
- 30:44cover us.
- 30:47We thank you for hearing this prayer.
- 30:50In the mighty name of Jesus Christ I
- 30:51pray.
- 30:53Amen.
- 30:56Now, before we close out today, I want
- 30:58to leave you with a handful of
- 30:59scriptures that I'd encourage you to
- 31:00take with you [music] and let them work
- 31:02in your heart over the days ahead.
- 31:04Don't just listen to them and move on.
- 31:06>> [music]
- 31:07>> Speak them over yourself. Write them
- 31:09somewhere you'll see them daily and let
- 31:11them dig up every root of bitterness
- 31:12[music] that may be hiding in the soil
- 31:14of your soul.
- 31:16Because here's the truth.
- 31:18Forgiveness is not a one-time decision
- 31:20we make and forget.
- 31:22It's a daily surrender.
- 31:25And the only way our hearts stay soft,
- 31:28our spirits stay [music] free,
- 31:30and our body stay healthy is by allowing
- 31:33the word of God to keep the soil of our
- 31:35hearts clean.
- 31:37So, let these [music] verses become
- 31:38tools in the hands of the Holy Spirit.
- 31:43The first one I want to share is Matthew
- 31:44chapter 6 [music] verse 14 to 15, which
- 31:47says,
- 31:48"For if you forgive others their
- 31:50trespasses,
- 31:51your heavenly Father will also forgive
- 31:53you.
- 31:55But if you do not forgive others their
- 31:56trespasses,
- 31:57neither will your Father forgive [music]
- 31:59your trespasses."
- 32:02Now, this is one of the most sobering
- 32:04verses on forgiveness in all of
- 32:05scripture because Jesus links our
- 32:08forgiveness from God [music] directly to
- 32:10our forgiveness of others.
- 32:14He's essentially saying that the same
- 32:16hand that withholds forgiveness from
- 32:17another person
- 32:18>> [music]
- 32:19>> is the same hand that blocks forgiveness
- 32:20from flowing into our own lives.
- 32:24You can't ask God to give you [music]
- 32:26what you yourself are refusing to give.
- 32:30So, when we forgive,
- 32:32we're not just releasing the other
- 32:33person.
- 32:34We're unlocking the door for God's
- 32:36[music] mercy to keep flowing freely
- 32:38into our own hearts.
- 32:41Then Colossians [music] chapter 3 verse
- 32:4313 says,
- 32:45"Bearing with one another, and if one
- 32:48has a complaint against another,
- 32:49forgiving each other,
- 32:51as the Lord has [music] forgiven you.
- 32:53So you also must forgive."
- 32:56Now notice [music] the standard that
- 32:58Paul gives us here.
- 32:59We don't forgive based on how badly we
- 33:01were hurt, how recent the offense was,
- 33:04or how sorry the other person [music]
- 33:06seems. We forgive based on how the Lord
- 33:08has forgiven us.
- 33:10And when you really think about how
- 33:12completely, how undeservedly, how freely
- 33:16>> [music]
- 33:16>> God has forgiven us,
- 33:18that becomes the measuring stick for
- 33:20every grudge we have ever been tempted
- 33:22to hold.
- 33:25Then Mark chapter 11 verse 25 [music]
- 33:27says,
- 33:28"And whenever you stand pray,
- 33:31forgive
- 33:32if you have anything against anyone,
- 33:34so that your Father also, who is in
- 33:37heaven, may forgive you your
- 33:39trespasses."
- 33:42There's something powerful here that we
- 33:43[music] often miss.
- 33:45Jesus links forgiveness directly to
- 33:48prayer.
- 33:50He's saying that unforgiveness will
- 33:52block your [music] prayer life.
- 33:54It creates a ceiling that your prayers
- 33:56struggle to break through.
- 33:59So if your prayer life has felt heavy,
- 34:01dry, or distant lately,
- 34:04just ask yourself honestly,
- 34:06is there anyone [music] I'm still
- 34:07holding something against?
- 34:10Cuz the path to a powerful prayer life
- 34:12[music]
- 34:12often runs straight through the door of
- 34:15forgiveness.
- 34:18So when it all comes together,
- 34:20the message is clear.
- 34:22Forgiveness is not weakness.
- 34:26It's freedom.
- 34:28Forgiveness is not letting the other
- 34:29person win.
- 34:31It's refusing to let bitterness destroy
- 34:33you.
- 34:35Forgive like Joseph who saw his brothers
- 34:38evil and trusted God's good.
- 34:41Forgive like Jesus
- 34:43who from the cross asked [music] the
- 34:45Father to forgive the very people
- 34:47driving the nails.
- 34:49Forgive like Stephen
- 34:51who prayed for his murderers as [music]
- 34:52the stones fell.
- 34:55Cut bitterness off at the root before it
- 34:58ever has [music] a chance to grow.
- 35:01And in doing so, you don't just release
- 35:03the person who hurt you.
- 35:05You release yourself into the abundant
- 35:08life that Jesus came [music] to give.
- 35:14Pursue peace with all people
- 35:17and holiness without which no one will
- 35:20see the Lord.
- 35:22Looking carefully lest anyone fall short
- 35:24of the grace of God.
- 35:26Lest any roots of bitterness springing
- 35:29up cause trouble.
- 35:31And by this many become [music] defiled.
- 35:37But Joseph said to them,
- 35:40"Do not fear
- 35:41for I am in the place of God.
- 35:45As for you, you meant evil against me.
- 35:48But God meant it for good.
- 35:51To bring it about that many people
- 35:52should be kept alive as they are today.
- 35:56So do not fear.
- 35:58I will provide for you and your little
- 36:00ones."
- 36:02Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly
- 36:04[music] to them.
- 36:09Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and
- 36:12anger.
- 36:14Brawling and slander
- 36:16along with every form of malice.
- 36:19Be kind and compassionate to one
- 36:21another,
- 36:22forgiving each [music] other just as in
- 36:24Christ God forgave you.
- 36:31Love suffers long and is kind.
- 36:35Love does not envy.
- 36:37Love does not parade itself.
- 36:40Is not puffed up.
- 36:42Does not behave rudely.
- 36:44Does not seek its own.
- 36:46Is not provoked.
- 36:47Thinks no [music] evil.
- 36:50Does not rejoice in iniquity. But
- 36:52rejoices in the truth.
- 36:54Bears all things. Believes all things.
- 36:59Hopes all things.
- 37:01Endures all things.
- 37:04Love never [music] fails.
