3. 0:07healthy meal every day forever but now
4. 0:11they are being filled killed by
5. 0:14throwaway plastics the equivalent of one
6. 0:18garbage truck of plastic is dumped in
7. 0:21the sea every minute 17 point six
8. 0:24billion pounds every year plastic is
9. 0:28everywhere in our ocean floating on the
10. 0:31surface mixing in the saltwater and
11. 0:34sitting on the ocean bottom miles and
12. 0:36miles deep and once in the ocean it
13. 0:40never goes away over hundreds of years
14. 0:43it breaks down into small pieces but
15. 0:46those pieces even the tiny ones called
16. 0:49micro plastics are still plastic sea
17. 0:54turtles are choking on them scientists
18. 0:57say that over 60% of whale and dolphin
19. 1:00species are affected by it it's all
20. 1:03plankton the base of the ocean food
21. 1:05chain eat it and so do we
22. 1:08it's in the water we drink it's in our
23. 1:11food micro plastics have been found in
24. 1:15our salt our honey and our beer and
25. 1:19sometimes even in the air we breathe
26. 1:23companies are choosing to make something
27. 1:26that will be used just once from a
28. 1:29material that lasts forever if you don't
29. 1:34like what throwaway plastics are already
30. 1:36doing to our world brace yourself
31. 1:38we face a tsunami of throw away plastic
32. 1:42in our and the oceans future four times
33. 1:47more plastic will be produced between
34. 1:49now and the middle of the century than
35. 1:51has been produced in all of history four
36. 1:55times more what can we do
37. 2:04recycling of all the plastic ever
38. 2:07generated as of 2015 only 9% was
39. 2:11recycled even when it is recycled
40. 2:14plastic degrades your plastic soda
41. 2:17bottle maybe becomes a shampoo bottle
42. 2:19then a floor mat even in the best case
43. 2:23it doesn't recycle it down cyclists and
44. 2:28then it becomes pollution that ruins our
45. 2:31beaches and chokes sea animals forever
46. 2:36we should not be forced to pollute the
47. 2:38ocean every time we eat drink or go
48. 2:41shopping we need to be given a choice a
49. 2:45plastic free choice this is not hard to
50. 2:49imagine indeed some responsible
51. 2:53companies are already leading the way
52. 2:54there are throw away plastic free aisles
53. 2:57in supermarkets beverage companies
54. 3:00already offer plastic free soda and
55. 3:03salsa water restaurants offer plastic
56. 3:07free service there are plastic free
57. 3:10rooms and hotels an airline is now
58. 3:13offering a plastic free flight
59. 3:16and oceania and our allies are winning
60. 3:19plastic free victories following
61. 3:23campaigning by Oceania Peru passed the
62. 3:26law that keeps plastic out of national
63. 3:29parks and beaches
64. 3:30[Music]
65. 3:32Belize is getting rid of styrofoam
66. 3:37[Music]
67. 3:40and the European Union has mandated
68. 3:43reductions for throw away plastic
69. 3:45throughout its 28 member countries but
70. 3:49with your help
71. 3:50we can do the work together we can
72. 3:53create a movement to reduce throw away
73. 3:55plastic we can make sure we're all given
74. 3:59real plastic free choices we can help
75. 4:02our cities towns schools and workplaces
76. 4:05establish zones that are free of throw
77. 4:08away plastic
78. 4:09let's stop plastic pollution from
79. 4:12wrecking our beaches and our oceans and
80. 4:14to have healthy oceans that delight the
81. 4:17sustained ease for generations to come
