6. 0:12Rwanda was in an airplane he was a
7. 0:16Hutu and his plane went
8. 0:19down on the 7th of
9. 0:21April a genocide began in the country of
10. 0:24Rwanda country about the size of uh the
11. 0:27state of Maryland with approximately 10
12. 0:30million people 9 million of them hutus 1
13. 0:34million
14. 0:37tosis a killing spree
15. 0:40began that
16. 0:43um all of the uh young men of the
17. 0:46country over the age of 14 and all of
18. 0:48the males and all of the hus were issued
19. 0:51machetes the country shut down an entire
20. 0:56country shut down all the schools closed
21. 1:00all the banks
22. 1:02closed all the grocery stores closed all
23. 1:05Commerce ceased and The Business of
24. 1:07killing was
25. 1:10underway people were being killed by the
26. 1:14thousands in the
27. 1:16streets and in The Villages of this
28. 1:19country throughout the country and those
29. 1:21of you who saw Hotel Rwanda have just
30. 1:23seen a little tiny sliver of
31. 1:26it in the end by July after 91
32. 1:32Days 1 million people 1 million people
33. 1:38Tois were
34. 1:40slaughtered in this racial cleansing
35. 1:43activity that took place and in the
36. 1:46midst of this
37. 1:49horror a young woman named
38. 1:52Immaculate
39. 1:54Iliza was a student in a college about
40. 1:58200 miles from from her
41. 2:03Village her
42. 2:04father talked with her on the phone and
43. 2:08persuaded her to come home she didn't
44. 2:10really want to go because it was Easter
45. 2:12vacation and it's a long ride and it's
46. 2:14uh it was through buses and so on takes
47. 2:17a long time through Country
48. 2:19Roads the father said you must come home
49. 2:22it's Easter you must come home and see
50. 2:23your mother and your father and she said
51. 2:25I don't know I'm not sure but she did
52. 2:27she did what her father asked her to do
53. 2:29and she went home and that was on the
54. 2:336th or so of April and when she got
55. 2:37there she's a tootsie
56. 2:39woman they had to go into hiding because
57. 2:43the killing began almost immediately
58. 2:45especially in this area of Rwanda where
59. 2:47she
60. 2:48lived
61. 2:50and she went into hiding in a pastor's
62. 2:54home in a bathroom that is approximately
63. 2:583T by 4
64. 3:00foot with seven other
65. 3:03women for 91
66. 3:06days and she came out she's 5'9 she came
67. 3:09out and she weighed
68. 3:1365b and she survived through something
69. 3:16that is so miraculous she has written
70. 3:18her story in a book called left to tell
71. 3:21how I discovered God in the midst of the
72. 3:23Rwandan
73. 3:25Genocide it was such an astonishing
74. 3:28experience that she would
75. 3:30survive through the force of
76. 3:33her total belief and connection to
77. 3:38God it was almost as if she had to
78. 3:43become that from which she originated
79. 3:45she had to learn not only what God was
80. 3:48like in her thoughts and when you read
81. 3:50her book you'll be just overwhelmed it's
82. 3:53a page turning
83. 3:58book but she
84. 4:00had to almost learn how to be in a state
85. 4:03of forgiveness to people who were
86. 4:05hunting her she lived in a house that
87. 4:08was a two-bedroom Bungalow by by
88. 4:10standards in America and it was
89. 4:12searched by between three and
90. 4:15400 hutus with machetes 5 in away from
91. 4:20where she and seven other women were
92. 4:23hiding just looking for scraps of food
93. 4:26in order to survive being brought to her
94. 4:28by the pastor and in the home home that
95. 4:29she lived the pastor didn't even tell
96. 4:31his own children because if he wouldn't
97. 4:34they would have been killed because no
98. 4:35tootsies were spared
99. 4:41none I'm going to read the
100. 4:44introduction and I met this
101. 4:46woman she came to a talk I gave and I
102. 4:49was so deeply inspired by her
103. 4:54Transcendent
104. 4:56connection to Source energy that she was
105. 4:59able to transcend the laws of the
106. 5:01material world she was literally able to
107. 5:04face down after weighing 65 lbs in 91
108. 5:09days wearing the same clothes without
109. 5:11having a bath or washing star down
110. 5:15someone with God Consciousness and have
111. 5:17them drop a machete and it was unheard
112. 5:19of I believe that she's a saint who
113. 5:22walks Among
114. 5:23Us I heard the killers call my name they
115. 5:27were on the other side of the wall less
116. 5:29than an inch of plaster and wood
117. 5:31separated us their voices were cold hard
118. 5:35and determined she's here we know she's
119. 5:37here somewhere find her find them
120. 5:40acurately they were saying there were
121. 5:42many voices and many killers I could see
122. 5:44them in my mind my former friends and
123. 5:46neighbors who had always greeted me with
124. 5:48love and kindness now move through the
125. 5:50house Calling My Name while carrying
126. 5:53Spears and
127. 5:54machetes I've killed
128. 5:56399 cockroaches said one of of The
129. 5:59Killers Immaculate will make 400 it's a
130. 6:02good number to kill I cowed in the
131. 6:05corner of our tiny secret bathroom
132. 6:07without moving a muscle like the seven
133. 6:09other women hiding for their lives with
134. 6:11me I held my breath so The Killers
135. 6:14wouldn't hear me breathing their voices
136. 6:16clawed my flesh I felt like I was lying
137. 6:19on a bed of burning coals like I'd been
138. 6:21set on fire a sweeping wind of pain
139. 6:24engulfed my body a thousand invisible
140. 6:26needles were ripping into me I never
141. 6:28dreamed fear could cause such agonizing
142. 6:31physical pain I tried to swallow but my
143. 6:34throat closed up I had no saliva my
144. 6:36mouth was drier than sand I closed my
145. 6:39eyes and tried to make myself disappear
146. 6:42but their voices just grew louder I knew
147. 6:44they would have no mercy my mind echoed
148. 6:46with only one thought if they catch me
149. 6:48they will kill me if they catch me they
150. 6:51will kill me they were just outside the
151. 6:53door at any second they would find me I
152. 6:56wondered what it was going to feel like
153. 6:57when the machete slashed through my skin
154. 6:59and cut deep into my bones I thought of
155. 7:02my brothers and my dear parents
156. 7:03wondering if they were dead or alive and
157. 7:06if we would soon be together in heaven I
158. 7:08put my hands together clasped my
159. 7:09father's rosary and began to pray please
160. 7:12God please please help me do not let me
161. 7:14die like this not like this not not not
162. 7:17like this don't let these killers find
163. 7:20me you tell us in the Bible that if we
164. 7:21ask we will receive well God I'm asking
165. 7:25please make these killers go away please
166. 7:27don't let me die in this bathroom please
167. 7:29God please The Killers moved from the
168. 7:32house and we all began to breathe again

171. 7:38over the next 3 months I believe God had
172. 7:40spared my life but I would learn over
173. 7:43the next 91 days as I hid trembling in
174. 7:45fear with seven women in a 3-foot by 4ot
175. 7:48bathroom that being spared is much
176. 7:51different than being saved but I did
177. 7:53learn it and it was a lesson that has
178. 7:56forever changed me a lesson that in the
179. 7:58midst of mass murder taught me how to
180. 8:01love those who hated and hunted me and
181. 8:04how to forgive those who slaughtered my
182. 8:06family my name is immaculate
183. 8:11Iliza and this is the story of how I
184. 8:14discovered God during one of History's
185. 8:17bloodiest

197. 9:34sad
198. 9:35story but it had been a story that gave
199. 9:40me an experience of great grow spiritual
200. 9:45growth and a deep
201. 9:48understanding of what really matters in
202. 9:52life it is a story of everyone who live
203. 9:57through any kind of Injustice
204. 10:00Justice I believe
205. 10:03that also it have given me a
206. 10:06chance to love better and to be able to
207. 10:10put myself in other people's skin
208. 10:14especially when they are
209. 10:17hot I always tell when
210. 10:20that if maybe he was in my country
211. 10:24before the
212. 10:25genocide teaching what it teaches today
213. 10:30maybe the genocide would not have taken
214. 10:34place and I hope everyone knows and
215. 10:36America knows what a gift they have to
216. 10:39have

248. 12:35neighbors everyone was
249. 12:38dead every material belongings I
250. 12:41cherished it was
251. 12:44destroyed I learned that to every
252. 12:48pain there is a great
253. 12:51purpose I have learned a lot during
254. 12:54those three
255. 12:55months and I knew that those those
256. 12:59lessons can help me to
257. 13:02face the pain that I was going to go
258. 13:06through and I chose only to look at
259. 13:11that
260. 13:14and as an
