0:13chapter 4. we're going to do a lot of
0:15reading tonight now Romans chapter 4
0:18verse 1-25
0:21yeah I'm gonna read the whole thing
0:23yeah some of y'all ain't read your Bible
0:26all week
0:27so just this is this is making up for
0:29them other days that you didn't get to
0:31do it I know you meant to I know you
0:33meant to I know you meant to but you're
0:35gonna get to do it tonight
0:38because it is important
0:40that you see the entirety of the thought
0:44let me show you something before we read
0:46and I love social media I thank God for
0:48the good parts of it and what it can do
0:50and how it helps people and how you can
0:52minister to people in a few moments of
0:55time in a minute of time you can compact
0:57a message and bless him but a lot of
0:59times it breeds confusion
1:02because they don't get to hear the
1:03statement in context
1:06people jump to conclusions and comment
1:08on stuff without really understanding
1:10the parameters and tonight we want to
1:13put this text in context by reading the
1:17whole chapter we begin to get some kind
1:20of understanding of what the Apostle
1:23Paul is trying to accomplish are you
1:26ready
1:27What then shall we say that Abraham our
1:31forefather according to the flesh
1:34discovered in this matter
1:37if in fact Abraham was justified by
1:39works he had something to boast about
1:42but not before God what does Scripture
1:46say Abraham believed God
1:49and it was credited to him as
1:52righteousness pay close attention to
1:54that Abraham believed God and it was
1:57credited an accounting term it was a
2:01credit to him as righteousness
2:04he went righteous
2:06but God gave him credit as if he were
2:08righteous
2:10because he believed God now to the one
2:14who works wages are not credited as a
2:17gift but as an obligation
2:20that when I get to Payday and they give
2:22me my paycheck I don't I don't have to
2:24feel obligated to say thank you because
2:26I earned that I work for that and I do
2:29that you ain't doing nothing but what
2:30you're supposed to do but if you just
2:32walk up and give me something I didn't
2:33earn that's a gift
2:36and what Abraham got from God he didn't
2:38earn however to the one who does not
2:41work but trust God who justifies the
2:45ungodly
2:46their faith is credited as righteousness
2:51you ought to be shot right there
2:54with your nasty self you ought to be
2:56thanking God right there we feel
2:58stubborn so if you ought to be praising
3:00God right there because if it wasn't for
3:02that text you wouldn't get into heaven
3:04heaven would slam all his doors and lock
3:06all his windows but God credited
3:08righteousness to your account
3:11David says the same thing when he speaks
3:14of the blessedness of the one to whom
3:17God credits righteousness apart from
3:21works so the Apostle Paul here has given
3:24us two illustrations one about Abraham
3:26now he's talking about David and he
3:28quotes David blessed are those whose
3:30transgressions are forgiven whose sins
3:34are covered
3:36blessed is the one who sinned the Lord
3:38will never never never never
3:42count against them people will count it
3:45but God will not count it against you
3:48people will bring it up but God won't
3:50bring it up against you is this
3:53blessedness only for the circumcised or
3:55for the Jews or also for the
3:58uncircumcised the Gentiles we have been
4:00saying that Abraham's Faith was credited
4:03to him as righteousness
4:07in other words no one group of people
4:09can hold this kind of accounting apart
4:12from any other group of people because
4:15God so loved the
4:17yeah the world that he gave his only
4:19begotten son that whosoever what
4:22believeth in him shall not perish but
4:24have everlasting life under what
4:26circumstances was accredited was it
4:28after he was circumcised or before it
4:32was not after but before that's
4:35important it was not after but before it
4:39was not after but before so it wasn't
4:42what Abraham did circumcision is not the
4:45Covenant it is the sign of the Covenant
4:49righteousness is not living right is not
4:52how you get saved you get saved so you
4:56can live right

4:59and he received circumcision as a sign a
5:04seal of the righteousness that he had by
5:07faith while he was still uncircumcised
5:10God he had it by faith while he was
5:13still uncircumcised he didn't cut
5:15himself to get it he cut himself because
5:18he had it
5:21oh I can stop right there that's a whole
5:23Bible class so then he is the father of
5:27all who believe he is the father of all
5:30who believe but have not been
5:32circumcised in order that righteousness
5:35might be credited to them remember we're
5:39in Romans
5:40remember we're in Romans remember that
5:43Rome is a a metropolitan
5:47Cosmopolitan area that is filled with a
5:50lot of hedonistic practices as well as
5:53some Jews and a lot of different sects
5:56and other sex not sex uh sex and
6:00different types of religious
6:01philosophies and into this environment
6:03Paul is equalizing he's bringing a Level
6:07Playing Field he's giving the same
6:09opportunity to the uncircumcised as he's
6:12giving to the circumcised he's giving
6:14those who have been idolatrous the same
6:17opportunity and even though they have
6:20not been zealous concerning the law he
6:22has brought them to a Level Playing
6:24floor by making the criteria just
6:28believing on God just to believe him
6:32just to believe him and then he reminds
6:35the Jews that the father of their faith
6:37who is Abraham entered into Covenant
6:40with God before he was circumcised so
6:43they will not glory in their flesh
6:47they will not glory in their
6:49righteousness they were not glory in
6:51what you don't do they will not glory in
6:54how they grew up in the church they were
6:55not glory in the fact that they've never
6:57been in a club they were not glory in
7:00the fact that they never had sex before
7:01they got married they were not glory in
7:04the fact that they never smoked a
7:05cigarette they were not Glory any any
7:07human work because all of that is good
7:10but it did make you saved
7:14some people live better by Nature than
7:16you do by habit
7:18come on and he is then also the father
7:21of the circumcised who not only are
7:24circumcised but who also follow in the
7:27footsteps of the faith that our Father
7:29Abraham had before he was circumcised
7:34come on
7:36though through the law that Abraham and
7:39his offspring received the promise it
7:42was not through the law that Abraham and
7:45his offspring received the promise that
7:48he would be heir of the world but
7:50through the righteousness that comes
7:52about faith that's got to be right
7:54because the law didn't come to Moses
7:57so Abraham was not justified by keeping
8:00the law
8:01and now he's talking to a people who
8:03feel like that the strength of their
8:05faith is in the execution of the law and
8:09the demonstration of the law but Abraham
8:11has received the same dimension of
8:14righteousness and Moses hasn't come yet
8:17so it couldn't have been under the law
8:18are you with me for if those who depend
8:21on the law are heirs faith means nothing
8:24and the promise is worthless
8:27because the law brings Wrath
8:31the law brings wrath the law brings
8:33wrath the Bible said when the law
8:35revised when the law came sin revived
8:38and I died so when the law County came
8:41in okay let me break it down I'm driving
8:43down the highway there is no speed limit
8:46there is no sign they cannot pull me
8:48over for speeding where there is no law
8:51but the moment they put the sign up that
8:53says 65 or 55 or 75 and I'm doing 82
8:58with the long revived sin now I get the
9:02ticket because the law legislates a
9:06barrier that now my behavior is sinful
9:09because of the law so when the law came
9:13sin revived and I died that's what that
9:15means because the law brings wrath and
9:18where there is no law come on here there
9:21is no transgression okay therefore the
9:25promise comes by faith
9:27so that it may be by grace and may be
9:31guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring
9:35not only to those who are of the law but
9:38also to those who have the faith of
9:40Abraham he is the father of us all
9:47okay come on stay with me come on I'm
9:50reading a lot but stay with me as it is
9:52written I have made you a father of many
9:56nations
9:57I have made you a father hmm
10:02I have made you a father of many nations
10:05he is our father in the sight of God in
10:09whom he believed the God who gives life
10:13to the Dead
10:16oh that's strong the God who gives life
10:19to the dead and calls into being things
10:22that were not
10:25the God who gives life to the dead
10:27against all hope Abraham in Hope
10:30believed and so became the father of
10:33many nations just as it had been said to
10:36him so shall your Offspring be
10:41without weakening in his faith he faced
10:45the fact that his body was as good as
10:47dead
10:48he faced it without weakening in his
10:51faith
10:52he faced the facts with faith
10:57the facts were he was impotent
11:03but he didn't stagger that's what King
11:05James said he didn't stagger at the
11:07promise he he knew the facts he didn't
11:10deny the facts but his faith overrode
11:13the facts somebody right now the facts
11:16are not working in your favor but your
11:19faith has to override the facts you
11:22don't have to go into denial about the
11:24facts you can face the facts and still
11:28have faith as a higher principle than
11:30overrides the facts and people are
11:33giving you the facts and you don't have
11:35to get mad and tired I don't receive it
11:36and it's not acting a Christian fool you
11:39can go ahead and say yeah that's true
11:41but I believe he faced the facts that
11:46his body was as good as dead he faced
11:48the fact that he was impotent since he
11:51was about a hundred years old and that
11:55Sarah's room was also dead dead dead
11:58dead dead
12:00dead but remember that verse before it
12:03the God who gives life to the dead
12:06that's a clue that's a big old clue
12:09everything's dead dead dead dead he's
12:12dead she's dead no kid has come and God
12:16is talking about his offspring and the
12:19fact is his body is dead her womb is
12:23dead but the hint was God gives life to
12:27the dead so the underwritten theme of
12:30the text leads us to God who is the
12:34resurrection from the dead
12:37Resurrection are you following what I'm
12:40saying did God you when you think of
12:43Resurrection you think of funeral homes
12:44in graveyards and cemeteries but with
12:46Abraham Resurrection
12:51come on somebody come on Resurrection
12:54meant something different because he
12:56faced the fact that his body was dead we
12:59don't have to go into denial about his
13:01body being dead no more than we have to
13:03go into denial that Christ died on the
13:06cross
13:07because if we go into denial and say he
13:10wasn't really dead then there is no
13:12Resurrection so in order for the
13:15resurrection to have power then you have
13:17to also understand that he was dead
13:20and he was dead and they mourned his
13:24death and they put him in the grave and
13:26they buried that which was dead and what
13:29makes Sunday so opulent is the Friday
13:32that proceeded it oh come on somebody
13:35Abraham did not waver through unbelief
13:39regarding the promise of God he didn't
13:41waver he didn't stagger he didn't back
13:44up from it he stood up he saw the facts
13:47he didn't lie about the facts he didn't
13:49face the he knew the truth of the
13:51matter was he was impotent but he did
13:54not waver through unbelief regarding the
13:57promise of God but was strengthened it
14:00was strengthened was stripping in his
14:03faith and gave glory to God now that's a
14:06praise when you can give glory to God
14:09still embracing the facts but knowing
14:11the faith that God has given me a
14:14promise that overrides the fight the
14:16fact is my credit is bad but my faith
14:19says God's about to open up a door come
14:22on somebody come on I'm not gonna have
14:24to lie and say the Devil is a Lie he's
14:26not lying my credit is bad but God still
14:29said before the year is out I'm gonna
14:31have my own house and I'm calling those
14:33things and are not as though they were
14:35because I believe God and I'm not going
14:38to stagger at the promise of God but I'm
14:40gonna stand right up to it glory to God
14:43start picking out drapes and look at
14:45that carpet because God has given me a
14:47promise
14:50being fully persuaded that God had power
14:55to do what he had promised see your
14:57faith is not in you having power he
15:00didn't have faith in his own body he
15:03didn't have faith in his own flesh he
15:05didn't have faith in his own potency but
15:08he had faith in the potency of God that
15:11God could wake up the dead wake up wake
15:15up wake up wake up wake up God could
15:18wake up the dead this is why it was
15:21credited to him as righteousness
15:26oh this is good
15:29see why I wanted to read all this the
15:32words it was credited to him were
15:35written not for him alone
15:38that's why we're studying the word of
15:39God because Abram did not Abraham did
15:42not have exclusivity over this principle
15:46because God is Not of respecter of
15:49persons
15:50this principle is applicable not to him
15:54alone but to us also but also for us to
15:58whom God will credit righteousness
16:02credit righteousness for us who believe
16:05in him who oh there it is
16:10raise Jesus
16:13our Lord
16:15from the dead
16:17we we got a dead Jesus
16:21we got a dead Abraham
16:24we got a dead woman Sarah
16:27but in all three cases God is raising
16:30the Dead
16:32not for them only but for you also do
16:35you have something you will need God to
16:37raise in your life you came on the right
16:40night tonight
16:41Hallelujah he was delivered over to
16:44death for our sins and raised to life
16:47for our justification can you say Amen
16:51tonight we're going to talk about potent
16:53faith
16:56potent
16:57Faith Spirit of the Living God fall
17:00fresh on us as we consider the word of
17:01God tonight we thank you for the
17:03privilege of understanding and studying
17:05and embracing the reality of your word
17:08we realize that embracing the reality of
17:11the word sets us in contradiction often
17:15with the culture who is only concerned
17:18with that which is tangible physical or
17:21factual our faith overrides the factual
17:25and rides on the wave of a belief system
17:28that opens doors for which we cannot
17:31take credit many of the things that we
17:34have received already we have not
17:36received them because we deserve them
17:38but because of your unmerited fake Grace
17:41and paper that you excluded to us and
17:45made us eligible and counting it to us
17:48as righteousness thank you for potent
17:50Faith we're now ready to study your word
17:53in Jesus name amen you sit the whole
17:57rest of the night
18:00I hate you standing so long your bunions
18:02are hurting
18:05potent
18:08faith
18:10let us let us look at the fact that we
18:12are in the Book of Romans this epistle
18:15believed to be have been written by the
18:17Apostle Paul is written to Rome at a
18:21time that the church is transitioning
18:24from a headquarters that had been in
18:27Jerusalem
18:28but Jerusalem had rejected Christianity
18:32as a whole
18:34and gradually over time Christianity
18:38began to root
18:39in Rome
18:41the one thing that we know about the
18:43Apostle Paul for sure is that he is good
18:46at laying Foundation
18:48okay we know this because in the book of
18:51Acts the Bible says that he laid
18:53foundation for the church at Ephesus for
18:56three years he said I cease not to warn
18:59you both day and night that after my
19:01departure Grievous wools would come in
19:04amongst you but I tried to fortify you
19:06now I commend you to God unto the word
19:08of his grace which is able to build you
19:10up and give you an inheritance amongst
19:12all them that are Sanctified he spent
19:14three years laying foundation in Ephesus
19:18and Ephesus will not be the epicenter
19:21for the church how much more does Paul
19:25labor in this eloquent depiction of
19:28faith and Grace to make sure that this
19:31letter is written to dispel controversy
19:34to Anchor them in proof to lay a
19:37definite Foundation up under them that
19:40stops Christianity from being
19:41neutralized into the Cesspool of
19:45spirituality
19:48you know how everybody now they said I'm
19:50not a Christian I'm spiritual
19:52that's a cesspool
19:55it catches everything what does that
19:57mean
19:58I can be new age and be spiritual I can
20:00be into mysticism and be spiritual I can
20:03be into Witchcraft and be spiritual what
20:05does that mean Christianity has to set
20:08itself apart in distinction rather than
20:11to be neutralized in the waste bucket of
20:15a cesspool of commonality where it
20:18disguises itself as spiritual there's no
20:22power in saying I'm spiritual the power
20:25is in the name of Jesus the power is in
20:29the blood of the cross the power is
20:31taking the persecution for being
20:34different the power is in standing out
20:36and Paul here is laying the foundation
20:40in Rome for which the epicenter of the
20:44Christian faith will evolve so with
20:47great tenacity and deliberateness does
20:51Paul lay that Foundation now Peter is
20:54given credit as the first Pope in Rome
20:57that's what the Catholics say he's given
20:59credit for bringing Christianity into
21:02Rome but it is Paul's eloquence that
21:06gives good theology to Peter's anointing
21:12did you get that okay so so so so so so
21:15so so so Paul Peter has a great grace on
21:20his life but Paul has great truth
21:23remember when the Bible said we beheld
21:25The Wonder of his glory the only
21:26begotten of the father full of what
21:29Grace and what truth so it's not enough
21:32to have Grace that's anointing and not
21:35have truth that's sound theology Paul is
21:39laying sound theology so that they won't
21:41just have Peter's anointing but they're
21:44having absolute identity and clarity as
21:47to what is and is not Christianity and
21:51the problem with the church today is
21:53that we do not know who we are
21:56we say Amen to everybody and everything
21:59that sounds good and we do not
22:01understand the distinction of who we are
22:03I'm not saying that we should isolate
22:05ourselves and stay away from everybody
22:07else because you can't win people that
22:09you don't talk to but if you don't know
22:12who you are they'll win you
22:17now God has set Paul in because Paul has
22:21the spiritual gift and the
22:23intellectualism to be able to wrestle
22:26down the doubters and the Skeptics into
22:28a common understanding of the grace of
22:31God that has equalized an opportunity
22:34for both the uncircumcised and the
22:37circumcised to come through the same
22:39door now we don't really get it because
22:41we're from a western culture and we
22:43don't understand that true Orthodox Jews
22:46would break their plate before they
22:48would eat with a gentile
22:52they wouldn't even eat with you
22:54so they they referred to you as dogs
22:58the notion that God would be gracious
23:01enough to let dogs have the children's
23:04bread
23:06was absolutely Unthinkable it would be
23:08like letting your puppy sit at your
23:10dining room table and eat off of your
23:13mama's China
23:15that's how that's how rigid Orthodoxy is
23:20and when you have been taught a rigid
23:23theology Grace sounds wishy-washy
23:29and that's still true today people who
23:32come from churches who are always
23:33fussing and fighting about everything
23:35have difficulty understanding Grace for
23:39anybody else
23:41and the reason they're so hard on you is
23:43because they cannot receive Grace for
23:45themselves blessed are the merciful for
23:49they shall obtain Mercy see if you can't
23:52be merciful with me you can't obtain
23:54Mercy for you if you can believe that
23:57God can forgive you then you got to
24:00leave the door open and let me in too
24:02because the same wretchedness that made
24:05you need Grace is the same wretchedness
24:08that made me need grace and grace then
24:10flows because if you can receive it you
24:13can give it but if you can't receive it
24:15you can't give it that goes for love if
24:18you can't receive love you can't give
24:20love that goes for friendship if you
24:23want friends you must Show Yourself
24:24friendly if something doesn't change in
24:27you it's not going to change in other
24:29people
24:32so maybe you've been praying for them
24:34when you ought to be praying for you
24:39okay I'm gonna leave that alone so so
24:42Paul is bringing
24:45theology
24:47to this new holy thing we call the
24:51church
24:52it is nebulous without his writings
24:56it is indistinct without his writings it
24:59is not absolute without his writings and
25:02most of New Testament theology has come
25:05from the pen of Paul
25:08Paul writes the book of Romans it is the
25:11Magna Carta of theology as it relates to
25:15Grace
25:16it is flamboyant Grace
25:19correctly spoken the Bible when it says
25:22in Romans said it is freely Grace is
25:24freely given the word there should be
25:26promiscuous
25:28it is gracious flirtatious
25:31it is Graces walking up down the hall
25:33saying you want some
25:36that's how gracious God's grace is
25:42it's not because you're rich it's not
25:44because you're fine it's not because
25:46you're cute it's just a gracious
25:48promiscuous
25:49and Grace is so promiscuous that it will
25:52Overlook everything that you did wrong
25:54and say you want some and if you can
25:57believe him you can receive right beside
26:00the person who sit beside you right now
26:02who never did have the stuff that you
26:05did for practice and the same blood that
26:07fell on them fell on you and your equal
26:10opportunity exists for you to receive
26:13the same Redemption even though you came
26:15in at the last hour you got the same pay
26:18as the person who's been working all day
26:20because Grace is promiscuous towards you
26:25are you following me
26:27God has given Paul this assignment to
26:30write to Rome and there are several
26:32reasons why he would do that Paul whose
26:35surname is Saul he is a Hebrew but he is
26:39also a citizen of Rome
26:43okay he is a citizen of Rome and many
26:46times they sought to kill him but
26:48because he was a citizen of Rome they
26:50had to let him go because Paul is a
26:53citizen of Rome so when you think of
26:56Rome just for the purpose I've been to
26:58Rome but just for the purpose of
27:00thinking about Rome think about Rome
27:02like New York
27:05and you go in New York and you walk down
27:07the street and somebody is speaking
27:09Mandarin and you go down a little
27:11further and there's a couple speaking
27:12French and you're going a little further
27:14and somebody's hauling Spanish off the
27:16back of a truck and you go a little
27:17further than somebody's speaking Swahili
27:19and you're still in New York
27:22that's wrong
27:23it is the epicenter of government a
27:27political prowess and power it is the
27:31America of its age
27:35it has taken over
27:37colonizations and territories around
27:40about them and extended its power until
27:44Caesar has become an emperor of such
27:47influence and such power that people
27:49were terrified of him because he was
27:51taking over dominions and territories of
27:55which Rome is at the Apex and Paul has
28:00come to Rome he writes to Rome his
28:04coming to Rome was preceded by a storm
28:06where the ship fell apart because when
28:09when the enemy knows that you're about
28:12to come into your destiny he will send
28:15all kinds of Storms and all kinds of
28:17shipwrecks to stop you from getting
28:19there the snake comes out to bite him
28:22and he shakes the snake but he can't
28:24stay at Molita because he must proceed
28:27to Rome because Rome is to be the place
28:30where Christianity is to flourish and
28:33spread across the world Rome is the
28:36epicenter of government
28:38and Athens is the epicenter of language
28:41the Greek language was like English is
28:45you can go to almost any country in the
28:47world and somebody there speaks English
28:49because English has become a common
28:52second language even if it's not your
28:55first language that's the way the Greek
28:56language was in that day and so when
28:59when Paul comes to Athens and he starts
29:02preaching the gospel there and he says I
29:05perceive that you are superstitious and
29:07he hopes to them and begins to teach how
29:10they have a sign up to the unknown God
29:12and he starts teaching them about Jesus
29:14it is because they have the language
29:16that will spread around the world Rome
29:19has the government
29:21Greeks had the language
29:23Ephesus was the epicenter of finance and
29:27commerce
29:28now government is controlling everything
29:31and Paul has come and he is now writing
29:35to Rome
29:37you understand that so when you read his
29:41writings you have to understand that he
29:43is a citizen of Rome but he is a Hebrew
29:47by descent like I am African by dissent
29:50but I am a citizen of America
29:53so when I go to Africa no matter how
29:56much I look like the Africans they will
29:58always say he is an American
30:03and it just hurts my feelings so bad
30:05because I got on the dashiki and
30:07everything and I got cornrows in my hair
30:10and I'm eating Fufu and Joel of rice and
30:13they still say I'm an American because
30:15they do not color code
30:18as we do in this country
30:22I am a citizen of America but descent I
30:27am an African
30:29okay so by if you did my DNA you would
30:33find out that I am African but if you
30:36check my driver's license you will find
30:38out I am a citizen of America
30:41that's who Paul is in this situation so
30:45he has a certain ambidextrous ability to
30:48be able to ascend and condescend and
30:52reach all levels of people because when
30:54it comes to being a a Jew he is a
30:58Pharisee
31:00which means that he is an adamant
31:02Orthodox historical Jew that's the
31:05background he comes from he comes from a
31:08background that would touch the Romans
31:13and yet God sends him to the very thing
31:16that he once hated
31:18ooh that's a message all by itself
31:22so regarding tribe he is from The Tribe
31:24of Benjamin
31:26which is the tribe from which Saul came
31:28the beginning of Kings so he this he is
31:32a descendant of a king coming into a
31:36kingdom
31:37to represent a kingdom that is not of
31:40this world
31:41and when he introduces this Kingdom he
31:44sets himself at odds with both the
31:48circumcised and the uncircumcised the
31:51uncircumcised are finding him strange
31:54because he has opened the door to have
31:57access to Yahweh in a way that the Jews
32:00have not and the Jews think he is a
32:03heretic because he is now sitting down
32:05eating with these sinful barbarious type
32:08people
32:10Grace does not seek to exclude anybody
32:14from having a seat at the table I'm
32:18still just setting it up I haven't even
32:19gotten into it he is converted to
32:22Christianity on the road to Damascus he
32:25is a theological scholar he is an
32:28intellect his work here reads like a
32:31legal argument when you read the way he
32:34processes his argument he does it
32:38by bringing up Abraham
32:41he brings up Abraham so I'm going to
32:43talk about the person Abraham he brings
32:45up Abraham because Abraham ultimately
32:48will represent intersectionality
32:50let me let me break that down I'm going
32:53to take my time this is Bible class this
32:55is not Sunday morning okay
32:57you must first realize that Abraham
32:59wasn't always called Abraham he was
33:01called Abram and that when God first
33:03called him he was living in Mesopotamia
33:07and he was a Chaldean and he was an
33:10idolater
33:12Abraham and God called him get thee away
33:15from thy country and away from your kin
33:18and go to a place that I will show thee
33:21and God called a covenant and called the
33:25Hebrew family out of the loins of a
33:28gentile

33:32if you miss that you missed the whole
33:34thing if you don't get that you're going
33:36to be lost Abram was a gentile
33:40that becomes a Hebrew because of the
33:44Covenant he has with God he is to
33:47hebrewistic theology the Adam
33:52of the faith
33:54he is the beginning of a new order and a
33:57new thing
33:58see God will do something new in the
34:01middle of something old
34:03God does a new thing he starts a new
34:06race of people out of an old race of
34:09people he starts a new ethnicity it's
34:12like when God had the children of Israel
34:13in the middle of the Wilderness and he
34:15says this shall be the beginning amongst
34:18to you it wasn't the beginning but God
34:20said it's New Year's Day
34:23why is it New Year's Day because I say
34:25so
34:26and if I call it new you can't call it
34:28old and if I call it clean you can't
34:30call it dirty and if I call it righteous
34:33you can't call it unrighteous because I
34:35am not a man that I should lie or the
34:37son of man that I should repent if I
34:40speak a thing it is what I say it is
34:43glory to God so God comes along and
34:46takes this idolatrous family Abraham
34:49Abram's father Nahar brings him out of
34:51Mesopotamia which is the modern day Iraq
34:54he brings him out of Mesopotamia away
34:57from his country away from his Kindred
34:58and says I'm going to start a race of
35:00people with you and you will be the
35:03father of many nations
35:05and Abraham says
35:07uh excuse me Lord
35:10I don't have no kids
35:13and uh
35:15my chance for having kids is gone
35:20I ain't gonna explain that
35:22but you you should you should have done
35:25this
35:26sooner
35:29look at the many people today who think
35:32you are no longer eligible
35:35for what God wants to do in your life
35:37because of a mistake you made or an age
35:41you have or a circumstance you're in and
35:43you're telling God you should have done
35:45this sooner God waited till you couldn't
35:48do it
35:50so that you wouldn't get no glory out of
35:52it being done come on somebody
35:56and so God says to him through thy seed
35:59shall All Nations all nations of the
36:02earth be blessed you will be the father
36:05of many nations
36:08the Chaldeans were people who lived in
36:10the southern in southern Babylonia which
36:13would be the southern part of Iraq today
36:17that's where Abram comes from
36:19and now we see him as the father of the
36:23faith sometimes the term Chaldean is
36:26used to refer to Babylonians in general
36:29but normally normally normally it refers
36:32to a specific
36:34semi-nomadic tribe of people that lived
36:37in the southern part of Babylon are you
36:39following me the land of the Chaldeans
36:42was the southern portion of Babylon or
36:44Mesopotamia or in the Old Testament it
36:47called it ER
36:49follow me I'm going to go deeper y'all
36:51with me don't let me lose you it was
36:54generally thought to be an area about
36:55400 miles long and about a hundred miles
36:59wide along the Tigris and the Euphrates
37:02River
37:04the the thing you must understand then
37:07is that Abraham if the reason I want you
37:10to understand that Abraham
37:13starts a new race but was born a
37:16Chaldean and an idolater is that Paul
37:20uses Abraham's testimony
37:23to convert Rome that how can you say
37:28you're the Seed of Abraham and reject
37:30these people
37:33with what you are rejecting was in your
37:36father
37:39so it is it it is the shrewness of an
37:42attorney that he brings up Abraham who
37:45they accept
37:47to explain who they reject
37:53the Mastery of his mind is Paramount in
37:57this text because it cannot reject
37:59Abraham because he is the father of
38:02their religion and they cannot deny the
38:04fact that the father of their religion
38:06was an idolater

38:14will find When God says to Abraham in
38:17Genesis 22 take down thy son thou only
38:19son and go to a place I will show you
38:21and there I want you to offer him up as
38:23a sacrifice if you study his child being
38:26background it was not strange that one
38:29of their gods would receive human
38:31sacrifice
38:35so when God says to him take now thy son
38:38thine only son he knows that Abram will
38:41not stagger at this because this is not
38:44as strange to him as it would be to you
38:46because it aligns up with his history
38:48but God gives himself distinction
38:51because he will not allow Abram to react
38:54to him the way he would those idolatrous
38:57Gods he says stay your hand Abraham now
39:01I know that you love me more than you
39:03love the gods you had before me that you
39:06would offer up if I were to if I were if
39:08I were if I were to ask for your son I
39:11could get him but all I wanted you to do
39:14was understand how I felt when I give my
39:17son I want to if you're going to be my
39:20friend you have to have empathy for how
39:23I feel because just the way you felt
39:25walking your son up to have him offered
39:28up that's the way I'm going to feel when
39:30I offer up my son and if you're going to
39:32be my friend we have to have shared
39:35experiences in order to have deeper
39:38relationship y'all not shouting like I'm
39:41teaching I'm teaching better than you're
39:43shouting so it is no accident that Paul
39:47has called and evoked Abraham to make
39:51this case to the Roman Jews because he
39:54puts them in a paradoxical situation
39:57that causes them to have to open up the
40:01door because he reminds them that your
40:03father's father's father father for
40:06which you have all this respect was just
40:09like these people that you won't eat
40:11with
40:14I was thinking the other day how they
40:16they're doing all of these genealogies
40:18and everybody's getting their genealogy
40:20to find out what's in them and if if
40:23that continues to happen Prejudice is
40:25going to have to be a thing of the past
40:32because what you're going to find out is
40:34white folks saying it's white as they
40:35thought they were and black folks ain't
40:37as black as they thought they were and
40:39Hispanic folk harness and Hispanic as
40:41they thought they were and how you gonna
40:42hate what's in you
40:46and eventually you're gonna come down to
40:48there's only one race and that's a human
40:50race and when we get down to that we're
40:53gonna have nothing else to hate each
40:54other about because you're gonna find
40:56out that you ain't pure and I ain't
40:58either and we're a strange mix of
41:00everything and if you hate me you hate
41:01yourself because somewhere in your DNA
41:04you got a little bit of me

41:14that that Paul has put them in when he
41:17now evokes
41:19the story of Abraham
41:21the process of Abraham's faith is based
41:26on the premise
41:28that his faith conviction is not
41:31convenient to his physical predicament
41:36his face conviction is not convenient to
41:40his physical predicament
41:43that means that God will always put you
41:47in a situation that contradicts the
41:50situation you're in
41:59God will not ask you to do the easy
42:01thing
42:05he will ask you to do the very thing
42:07that you think you can't do
42:10he will ask you with a woman you getting
42:13ready to die you don't have nothing but
42:14a handful of meal bake a cake for me
42:16first he won't ask the rich person to
42:19bake a cake he'll ask the Widow who's
42:21about to die to bake a cake because your
42:24extremity is God's opportunity and God
42:28will come to you when your hand is
42:30withered and say stretch forth your hand
42:33and God will come to you when you're
42:35lame and say take up your bed and walk
42:37and God will come to you when you only
42:39have one lunch and say everybody sit
42:42down in groups and 50 we getting ready
42:44to break some bread in here today
42:45because the facts are you got two fish
42:48and five loaves of bread but the faith
42:50is God can take what you got and
42:52multiply to be more than enough and so
42:55don't let your feelings about your
42:57situation stop your convictions about
43:00your conversion

43:07the improbability of Abram's seed
43:12is that
43:13time is not on his side
43:16and let's face it even if God were to
43:18roll back the clock and make him a young
43:20man
43:21Sarah was always buried
43:24she was beautiful
43:26but she was buried
43:29she was so fine that even when she was
43:31an old woman he had to lie
43:34foreign
43:37she was fine old
43:40Abraham said I got to lie because if I
43:43tell him she my wife they're gonna kill
43:44me and take her now that's fine when she
43:4790 and you have to lie
44:02don't let it Escape you that I coupled
44:05beautiful with Baron
44:10because Beauty does not negate
44:13barrenness
44:19and man looks on the outward appearance
44:22but God looks on the heart
44:26she was beautiful
44:28but she was barren
44:31and it is out of her Barren womb
44:35that God must incubate the seed
44:38so there are layers of impossibility
44:42to the promise
44:47so I don't need I don't I I I don't just
44:51need one miracle
44:57because even if you resurrect my little
44:59friend down here
45:02her little friend has gone home to bed
45:05and so so this is a double whammy
45:10you understand I I want to talk to
45:12people that God keeps saying something
45:14to you that is so different from your
45:17circumstance that you can't even find
45:19anybody to tell what he's saying to you
45:21because it's totally ridiculous that God
45:24would say something like that to you and
45:26yet God is going to give you potent
45:28Faith he's going to give you powerful
45:30Faith he's going to give you your
45:32Breaking Faith he's going to do a thing
45:34in your life even though everybody voted
45:37you out said you'd never be nothing
45:38through you I've never thought you'd be
45:40any good curse you out laugh that you
45:43made fun of you spat on you you flunked
45:45out of school you dyslexic and now God's
45:48gonna do something fresh in your life
45:49yes because God said my strength is made
45:53perfect in your weakness and if you were
45:56strong I wouldn't have any place to be
45:58perfect but I am the most potent when
46:01you are the most impotent and I waited
46:03till you were limited so I could be
46:06Limitless in your life and that's why we
46:09praise said not because we're potent but
46:12because he's potent not because we got
46:15money but because he got money not
46:18because we got resources but because he
46:20got resources not because we know the
46:22king but because the heart of the king
46:24is in his hand and if God gets ready to
46:27bless me no devil in hell can crush me
46:30and if God gets ready to set me free you
46:33can't put me in jail for he whom the son
46:36had set free is free indeed don't pay
46:39these shackles no mind I'm free indeed
46:42don't pay these handcuffs anymore I'm
46:45free indeed
46:50look at somebody and say I got potent
46:52faith
46:53I got potent phrase I got potent faith I

47:08who is like Sarah
47:11who is beautiful
47:14but barren
47:16I am not like the temple
47:20which was beautiful
47:22but it did not have any Arc of Covenant
47:25in it
47:27and behind the veil there was nothing
47:30which means that the womb of the temple
47:32was barren
47:36so what was going on with the temple
47:39was going on with Mother Sarah
47:42she was beautiful
47:45lots of rituals
47:46Feast of Weeks Feast of unleavened bread
47:49Feast of Pentecost but there was no
47:51glory behind her
47:53and God revealed that she was Barren
47:57when he went to the cross and the veil
48:00in the temple was written from the top
48:01to the bottom it exposed the barrenness
48:05of their theology
48:08because how can you offer up sacrifice
48:10in a place where there is no Ark of the
48:14Covenant so Sarah is a type of the
48:17temple she is beautiful
48:22but Baron let me go on are y'all getting
48:24what I'm saying to you I want you to
48:26understand the improbability of
48:29Abraham's seed goes beyond his own
48:31impotence
48:33and Embraces hers and the reason I want
48:37you to see that is because we're living
48:38in a society today that either promotes
48:42men to the point that they are dominant
48:44overbearing controlling and abusive or
48:47now promotes women who now say men are
48:50irrelevant and I don't need them and you
48:52don't lift them up don't talk to me
48:54about them because to us it's either his
48:57fault or her fault but God has said that
49:01Abraham is Barren and Sarah is Barren
49:04and the only one in the story that got
49:06any power is me so it's not about the
49:09men and it's not about the women it's
49:10about the glory of God and if that ever
49:13comes back in the church again where you
49:16stop trying to prove that you got more
49:17power than me and I'll stop trying to
49:20prove that I got more power than you and
49:22both of us fall on our knees and say
49:24both of us are Barren and we need the
49:27power of God then there are many of male
49:30nor female Greek nor Jew Bond or free we
49:33come one in Christ when we stop playing
49:36tug of war
49:41because if you Barren you can't laugh at
49:44me being impotent
49:46[Applause]
49:48and if I'm impotent I can't talk about
49:50you being barren
49:52so just the way God neutralizes both of
49:55them he has now neutralized both the
49:58uncircumcised and the circumcised and
50:01brought them down to the common
50:02denominator that you're all beautiful
50:07but barren
50:09this is the purpose of the book of
50:11Romans
50:13to bring them down to an equal playing
50:15floor he has to break them out of their
50:19Orthodoxy
50:21you know why I wrote disruptive thinking
50:24because you cannot erupt
50:27until you disrupt
50:32and what Paul is doing in Romans is
50:36disrupting the theology that is stopping
50:39them from seeing the glory
50:42and he's doing it through
50:46metaphors similes
50:48and patriarchal understandings that they
50:52can find palatable
50:55because you like Abraham
50:58so I'm not going to bring up no other
51:00God you like Abraham and you say he's
51:03your father when your father is a
51:05gentile
51:10okay and he received the Covenant before
51:13he got circumcised you running around
51:15here identifying yourself by your
51:18circumcision but your daddy
51:23got the Covenant before he got
51:27circumcised so if he could receive the
51:29Covenant before he got circumcised how
51:32can you say that these Gentiles can't be
51:35said come on somebody come on this is
51:37the argument that he's making in the
51:39text
51:40see that's why I read the whole thing
51:42because you you must understand that he
51:44is litigating
51:46the case
51:48for God opening the door for the
51:52idolater to have equal opportunity and
51:55access before these people who were law
51:58Keepers they find it detestable and
52:01Unthinkable that God would say these
52:04people were in oranges
52:07they were burning babies
52:10they were doing all kind of debauchery
52:12and their Orthodox Jew thought it was
52:15reprehensible that you would suggest
52:17that my God would save them
52:21that arrogance
52:24is blinded to the fact that your daddy

52:32that's why he brings up Abraham
52:34that's why he rehearses the story that's
52:37why it becomes significant that Abraham

53:05case he's laying out a case before the
53:08jury but God said we've got to be able
53:10to make a decision that God can justify
53:13the ungodly

53:21the promise of Abraham's faith the

53:29of many nations
53:32if you take
53:35an orthodox
53:37Jew
53:39a devout Christian
53:42and a Muslim
53:44who who practices Islam
53:48the only thing
53:50that we all agree about completely
53:55is Abraham
54:00you will find Abraham in Islam
54:03you will find Abraham in Orthodox Jews
54:06you will find Abraham and Christianity
54:09you shall be the father

55:35make you doubt that God is potent enough
55:40to handle your impotency
55:43that that God has enough money that he
55:47can raise your credit score that he can
55:50set you free that he can give you what
55:53you need that he can give you what you
55:55say that he can give you exceedingly
55:57abundantly above all that ye may ask or
55:59think according to the power that works
56:01in you and I don't care if you're 90 or
56:04190 if God says I'm going to bless you
56:06he told Abraham I swear I'm going to
56:09bless you I swear I'm gonna bless you I
56:12give an oath that I'm going to bless you
56:14he said I notice that it is a custom
56:17amongst men that the giving of an oath
56:19is the end of all Strife so I tell you
56:21what I'm gonna do I'm gonna swear to you
56:24he said but I couldn't find nothing
56:26greater than myself to swear by so I
56:30swear by myself I put myself on the line
56:33if I am not legitimate you will know it

57:39with my child is dead but God's Gonna

57:46but God's Gonna raise me and if God gets
57:48ready to raise me it might take me three
57:51days but he said in two days I will
57:54revive you and the third day I'll raise
57:57you up I feel a third day about to break

1:02:09favor of God and you got to go ahead and

1:04:30suppose a brother or sister is without
1:04:32clothes and daily food if one of you

1:04:39well fed but does nothing about their
1:04:41physical needs what good is it I gotta
1:04:44stop right there I gotta stop right
1:04:45there because when people say to me
1:04:47you're a pastor
1:04:49why are you mentoring entrepreneurs
1:04:53you're a pastor why are you making
1:04:56movies you're a pastor why are you
1:04:58building homes you're a pastor why are
1:05:01you shutting down food deserts you're a
1:05:03pastor why don't you just preach and go
1:05:05home you had a season in your life you
1:05:07can take it easy well what you are
1:05:09saying to me is that somebody can come
1:05:11up to be and be naked and you want me to
1:05:13give them a sermon

1:05:19because I want you to get this in your
1:05:21spirit the reason the church is deemed
1:05:24irrelevant today is because for every
1:05:27Community problem all we got is a sermon
1:05:31but what the community needs is to see
1:05:34change they need to see jobs they need
1:05:38to see opportunities they need to see
1:05:40development they need to have access to
1:05:43a blessing and don't tell me that God
1:05:46doesn't care about human conditions when
1:05:49the Bible is clear it said if one of you
1:05:51says to them go in peace keep warm and
1:05:54well fed but does nothing about their
1:05:58physical needs what good is your faith
1:06:03if you're gonna make me shout about
1:06:05something that you won't help me enter
1:06:07into if you keep telling me I got a
1:06:10feeling everything gonna be all right
1:06:13and it don't ever get better
1:06:16what good is your faith
1:06:20that's why we need leaders who are not
1:06:22one-dimensional that's why we need
1:06:24leaders who can do more than preach
1:06:26that's why we need singers who can do
1:06:28more than sing that's why we need people
1:06:30at the Forefront who will go in the
1:06:32gates for us who will intercede for us
1:06:35who will go to the courtroom for us who
1:06:38will talk to the CEO for us who will
1:06:40plead our case until breakthroughs come
1:06:43and changes come and opportunities come
1:06:46we got to take it out of the church we
1:06:49got to take the gospel to the streets we
1:06:51got to go where the trouble is we got to
1:06:53go where the people are hurting
1:06:57I'm tired of you telling me to go in
1:06:59peace keep warm and well fed but you
1:07:02don't do anything about my physical need
1:07:05what good is your faith without works
1:07:13that's why I'm talking to you about
1:07:15stuff that ain't in the scriptures
1:07:17ain't no blankets in the scriptures
1:07:20but if you cold you need one
1:07:24ain't no styling a coach in the
1:07:26scriptures but if you freezing you need
1:07:28a coat you don't need a sermon and a God

1:08:03and then we started busting them in our
1:08:05church and giving them haircuts and
1:08:07getting letting them shower and putting
1:08:09them in clothes and creating
1:08:11opportunities because if you show me
1:08:13your faith and I don't see no Works
1:08:15behind it that what good is your sermon
1:08:18I'm looking for sermons In the Flesh
1:08:20that's what Jesus was he was a sermon In
1:08:23the Flesh that's what oh god I got to
1:08:25quit that's why the Bible said in the
1:08:28beginning was the word and the Word was
1:08:30with God and the Word was God but down
1:08:33around the 14th verse it says and the
1:08:35Word was made flesh and brought among us
1:08:38and we beheld The Wonder of his glory
1:08:40when the word is made flesh those are
1:08:42sermons In the Flesh I want to sermon I
1:08:45can see I don't need a sermon I can hear

1:08:52so James is telling you yes your faith
1:08:56is wonderful but if your faith doesn't
1:08:59produce works
1:09:01what good is it next verse in the same
1:09:04way Faith by itself if it is not
1:09:06accomplished by action is dead
1:09:11but someone will say you have faith I
1:09:14have these show me your faith without
1:09:16deeds and I will show you my faith by my

1:09:23you believe that there is one God good
1:09:26even the demons believe

1:10:41if you believe in God to raise it to the

1:10:48whatever you believe ought to be seen by
1:10:51the actions you do
1:10:53you got to walk it out your word has to
1:10:56be made flesh you got to be able to
1:10:58watch me walk and tell what I believe
1:11:03it ain't enough to say I am somebody if
1:11:06you ain't gonna stretch your shoulders
1:11:07back and hold your head up and walk like
1:11:10you're a king's kid
1:11:14you see that his faith and his actions
1:11:17were working together and his faith was
1:11:20made complete
1:11:23by what he did
1:11:25and the scriptures was fulfilled that
1:11:28says Abraham believed God and it was
1:11:31credited to him as righteousness and he
1:11:34was called God's friend
1:11:37you see that a person is considered
1:11:39righteous by what they do
1:11:42and not by faith
1:11:45alone
1:11:47because your faith
1:11:49can be beautiful
1:11:52and bearing
1:11:55if faith doesn't produce works
1:12:00is Sarah all over again
1:12:03it's it's a veil hiding an empty holies
1:12:08of holies
1:12:11your behavior matters
1:12:19it legitimizes your faith
1:12:23how can you say that you love God who
1:12:27you have not seen
1:12:28and hate your brother
1:12:30who you see every day

1:13:06is important
1:13:08you ought to be able to see it I can't
1:13:10be in no 30-year building fund
1:13:15riding around in a Rolls Royce
1:13:18and you still meeting in a closet the
1:13:20Devil is a Lie if you believe it your
1:13:24Works ought to show up in your life it
1:13:27may not be this year it may not be next
1:13:29year but if you believe it you ought to
1:13:31see some cinder blocks some concrete
1:13:34some barbed wire
1:13:36ought to see some fences some gates some
1:13:38somewhere show me something

1:13:42don't beat your chest and tell me you
1:13:45the man and you the head of the house
1:13:46cause the moment you have to tell me you

1:14:11gets pregnant with works
1:14:16and without it it is like Sarah

1:15:14feel like I can do it I don't feel let
1:15:16me tell you something it's not you
1:15:18that's going to do it he's going to do
1:15:19it in you he's going to do it through
1:15:21you he's going to do it with you he's
1:15:24going to do is anybody getting anything
