2. 0:07Hello, ladies and gentlemen. Happy Fourth of July
3. 0:10That's at least the date that I'm filming this, and that's when I hope to get this up.
4. 0:14It's the late afternoon, early evening of the Fourth of July
5. 0:18I can smell - I can actually smell kind of a charcoal from barbecues in the air. It's a nice comfortable
6. 0:24Afternoon and
7. 0:26I got Popeye's
8. 0:29There was no one there. I was the only person that went and got Popeye's so I guess I
9. 0:34Don't know I guess everyone already got their Popeye's because that's what everyone eats on the Fourth of Kuly
10. 0:39But I wanted to get this item done I
11. 0:42Originally wanted to review this item last Sunday. I just wasn't feeling well that day
12. 0:48Understandably and I had to put it off, so I decided well alright, I'm going to get it taken care of today
13. 0:53They're still open as far as I understand, so that's what I decided to do, and that's where we stand right now
14. 0:59so today's review is for the Popeye's cheddar biscuit butterfly shrimp and
15. 1:06They release these every so often, the butterfly shrimp, and admittedly this is one of my favorite items
16. 1:14from Popeye's
17. 1:15I mean it just is
18. 1:17They always do these so nicely I always
19. 1:19Usually rate these highly, this is one of my favorite things from Popeye's so I'm really looking forward to this
20. 1:24I mean, I remember these butterfly shrimp
21. 1:27They just have a certain way with it, where they're just able to have it so tender, it's always so good
22. 1:33And I'm always looking forward when they ever release a new type of butterfly shrimp because I usually know when it comes to popeyes
23. 1:39Even though the chicken has kind of gone down hill a bit usually they still manage to do these butterfly shrimp pretty good
24. 1:45So I kind of got some high hopes for this one
25. 1:48Now this is their cheddar biscuit butterfly shrimp, okay
26. 1:52This is your standard butterfly cut shrimp, though it does have a little bit of butterfly meat, around 8% or so in there
27. 2:01It also has a cheddary biscuit coating, so I guess it's supposed to have the biscuit like to maybe have a little bit of a butteriness and
28. 2:09Bread crumb type of coating and then the cheddar of course, to have a little bit of cheesiness to it as well
29. 2:14So that's the unique thing about this, the coating, the cheddar biscuit coating
30. 2:20They only sell it in a meal, of course it seems to be standard procedure now from popeye's and
31. 2:28They only sell it in a meal, in a little box like so, you know, you can see it there and
32. 2:36You have to get this with a side, I got it with fries. It also comes with a biscuit and some new sauce of theirs
33. 2:43Some ghost pepper jelly sauce
34. 2:46I always kind of shake my head when it comes to these ghost pepper sauces. It's a joke. You know
35. 2:51They're not actually going to put any ghost pepper in it
36. 2:53You'd be dying truth be told so it's just in the name
37. 2:57But I guess it's supposed to have a little bit of a spice to it anyway
38. 3:01Here's the box. Can see in all its box-like glory. There it is
39. 3:10There's me kind of looking at the box rather inquisitively
40. 3:17You can see
41. 3:19In it
42. 3:26Fries
43. 3:27Some of the shrimp buried underneath said fries, and there's a
44. 3:33B... biz... bizgit
45. 3:35Right over there, so you can see everything's included it's you know a nice little
46. 3:40selection of fatty foods, and this is available for the price of five dollars
47. 3:45Alright
48. 3:47Well, I guess we'll just try the shrimp first
49. 3:51Now you could eat all of the shrimp, mind you. This is an interesting thing about these, you could even eat the tail, too
50. 3:56That's one thing that I find interesting about Popeye's shrimp. But anyway, I'm just going to try them
51. 4:01I'm going to eat them plain first and then I'll try them
52. 4:04After I give an initial assessment, I'll try them with the sauce, and we'll go from there. I'm looking forward to this it is the cheddar
53. 4:12Biscuit, I think that's what it's called, right?
54. 4:14We, I want to make sure. Yep, the cheddar biscuit butterfly shrimp from Popeye's, going in
55. 6:03My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
56. 6:13For those of you who don't know
57. 6:16Burger King, a couple months back, bought out Popeye's
58. 6:19And for those of - for a lot of the people who understood and knew what was going on, there was some protest about it
59. 6:27But it seems lately
60. 6:29Burger King is like the opposite of King Midas, you know, where everything he touched turned to gold in the story
61. 6:36With Burger King, everything they touch is just garbage and it's terrible
62. 6:41and as soon as they bought Popeye's I had a sad feeling, and I thought to myself, they're going to ruin this chain aren't they and
63. 6:47And that's it, that's exactly what they're doing
64. 6:50Just like everything else is they touch really, you know, they ruin it
65. 6:57Terribly disappointing, what what I'm tasting here, it really is
66. 7:02These butterfly shrimp from Popeye's
67. 7:05Were my favorite thing from the menu. I kid you not, when they would release them
68. 7:10I would go there special for it. Now the chicken used to be
69. 7:13I mean on its own good, but these butterfly shrimp were something else. I mean they were so tender
70. 7:19They had a butteriness to them. They just melted in your mouth. Oh, it was so good
71. 7:24I try these and no sauce is going to fix this atrocity. None
72. 7:31This comes down to the quality of the meat itself
73. 7:34The perfect shrimp really should just be really melt-in-your-mouth
74. 7:38These are chewy, and that's disgraceful
75. 7:43Really is, and it brings it down from something that was excellent now to below-average
76. 7:49It's not terrible, mind you. They're edible, granted
77. 7:53But when you're used to expecting
78. 7:56These excellent quality shrimp, the best from a fast food place, and now you bite into it, and they're all just chewy and
79. 8:05Rather lackluster in terms of flavor
80. 8:08It's such a terrible, terrible disappointment, ladies and gentlemen when this was such a good item. And you're trying it again and now
81. 8:15It's essentially a piece of garbage
82. 8:18So I hope you can imagine my disappointment when
83. 8:22I know likely it's never going to go back to what it once was, and it's a terrible disappointment, folks. It really is
84. 8:29You know
85. 8:30Just texturally. They're lacking in flavor, a lot of that butteriness is gone
86. 8:36They're not even, you know, melt-in-your-mouth anymore. That''s the best way to describe them. They're just chewy now
87. 8:42They're chunky and it's a terrible disappointment
88. 8:47And they just have a real fishy taste to them now. It's such a disappointment folks it really is
89. 8:55In terms of that outer coating that they like to flaunt around now where they say it's got the cheddar biscuit
90. 9:00I couldn't really taste any of the biscuityness of it
91. 9:04I could taste a little bit of that cheddar cheese blend in there
92. 9:07Which is nice and all, but at the same time the meat has to be quality, too
93. 9:12So it's a disappointment. It really is, you know, it's something
94. 9:15This was my favorite item on the menu there, and to see them ruin this too, it's sad
95. 9:21You might be saying, well, you know, maybe
96. 9:23Maybe the Popeye's that you go to is just a bad one, right?
97. 9:26As a matter of fact I went to a different one today. I actually did, I went to a different Popeye's, a completely new one and
98. 9:33This is the product here, and it's such a disappointment as I said many a time now
99. 9:39This is an item that I held in such high regard and
100. 9:43To see them do this to it
101. 9:47It's crushing, you know, it's sad. It's really sad to be quite honest
102. 9:54We'll try the ghost pepper jelly
103. 10:01You can see it's got a redness to it there, a pool of red
104. 10:07And we'll see, but really when it comes to - maybe it'll add a little bit of flavor to it, you know
105. 10:12But when it actually comes to the quality of the meat itself and the texture thereof
106. 10:16A sauce is only going to do so much
107. 10:19And so we'll try a little bit here
108. 11:12The sauce is good and all, keep that in mind, now the sauce itself is a nice little
109. 11:19Contradiction of a sweet jelly really like a sweet little jam, you know and
110. 11:25And then it has this real
111. 11:27Spiciness, now, it's nothing like a ghost pepper, you know, if it was a ghost pepper, forget it
112. 11:31I'd be bawling my eyes out right now, and probably vomiting it up on the floor
113. 11:35So that's not obviously what it really is
114. 11:38But it does have a nice little spiciness that kind of does add a little bit of flavor to it
115. 11:42But when the issue is the texture and quality of the meat, as I said, sauce is only going to do so much now
116. 11:48Now, it's still subpar quality meat with a little bit of sweetness and spiciness to it
117. 11:53And that's it. The same disappointment there, you know

119. 12:00So overall, I'm disappointed
120. 12:02I really am, you know, they - this is such a good dish and to see it just sink down in terms of quality
121. 12:07It's saddening, it really is. This costs you five dollars. I wouldn't
122. 12:12Recommend It especially if you've tried their
123. 12:15Butterfly shrimp in the past, because it's just sad, and it's disappointing to see it just sink down so much. I'm disappointed
124. 12:23Popeye's, please fix it, get your act together, please. You once had a very good menu with very good items
125. 12:30And now you're stooping down to the level of KFC.
126. 12:33So I beg of you,
127. 12:34Please do something about this because it's such a shame to see something just sink down so low in terms of quality
128. 12:41Out of ten therefore. I'm going to be giving this the ah
129. 12:44Cheddar biscuit butterfly shrimp, I'm going to give it a four point eight out of ten
130. 12:50Because it's still edible, but it's definitely on the lower, lower end in terms of quality, sad to say
131. 12:57It really is, and
132. 12:59It's disappointing, I kind of saw this coming, but it's always when you really see it happen, it always hits you hard, it really does
133. 13:07On one final note, since the review is wrapped up, I'm just going to take a minute with this
134. 13:12I wanted to just emphasize a point that
135. 13:15I said this a while back, but I wanted to just, you know, say it again
136. 13:20Sometimes with this channel, you know, I'll just, I guess the best way to say it is
137. 13:25You know sometimes, I might not be feeling well. I might just be having a bad day or whatnot
