  1. 0:00Communism is a failed idea. It's been
  2. 0:02tried time and time again and it never
  3. 0:04works. In fact, it leaves people worse
  4. 0:07than it finds them. It promises to give
  5. 0:10free school, free health care, free
  6. 0:12housing, but in reality, it takes. It
  7. 0:15strips people of their freedom, their
  8. 0:17innovation, and their independence. And
  9. 0:19eventually, it kills. Take Cuba. Fidel
  10. 0:23Castro was viewed as a hero, a savior.
  11. 0:25He wasn't a communist, he was a
  12. 0:27democratic nationalist. Sound familiar?
  13. 0:30He promised free speech, free press, and
  14. 0:32free elections. But then, he got a
  15. 0:34little power and all that changed. He
  16. 0:37seized properties and nationalized
  17. 0:39businesses. He even canceled Christmas
  18. 0:42so workers could focus on their
  19. 0:43sugarcane crop. And to solidify his
  20. 0:46control over the people he promised to
  21. 0:48help, he ended democratic elections.
  22. 0:52Here's the thing about communism. Once
  23. 0:54you're voted in, it's tough, if not
  24. 0:56impossible, to vote it out. It's an
  25. 0:59ideology that must be faced proactively,
  26. 1:02not reactively. Because if you're
  27. 1:04reacting, you may be too late. That's
  28. 1:06why middle and high school students in
  29. 1:08Florida are receiving expanded history
  30. 1:10lessons this year on the real history of
  31. 1:12communism. It's an important shift,
  32. 1:15especially when we have Marxism being
  33. 1:17amplified at the college level. But
  34. 1:20believe it or not, there is at least one
  35. 1:22university taking up the task of
  36. 1:24defending democracy. Florida
  37. 1:26International University has welcomed
  38. 1:29European Parliament member Dominik
  39. 1:31Tarczyński to campus. He was born in
  40. 1:34communist Poland and will be leading a
  41. 1:36lecture titled Communism in the past,
  42. 1:38present, and future, its impact on the
  43. 1:40economy and individual freedom. We sat
  44. 1:43down to talk about that critical lesson.
  45. 1:47>> You are a Polish member of the European
  46. 1:50Parliament and you've actually come here
  47. 1:52to America on on a bit of a mission. So,
  48. 1:55kind of give me your background and what
  49. 1:57it is that you're trying to do here in
  50. 1:59the US?
  51. 2:00>> I was born in Poland, Eastern Poland, in
  52. 2:021979. It's important because that was
  53. 2:04the communist times. I remember that
  54. 2:07President Reagan and John Paul the
  55. 2:09second, these two giants freed Poland
  56. 2:13from communism. But, I can see communism
  57. 2:15coming back and I can see that America
  58. 2:18needs
  59. 2:20There's a need for fight. I mean, honest
  60. 2:22fight.
  61. 2:23And my presence here, first of all, is
  62. 2:27my way to pay respect for freedom.
  63. 2:30And this is very, very personal to me as
  64. 2:33a person who grew up
  65. 2:35under communism.
  66. 2:36>> Yeah.
  67. 2:37>> I was
  68. 2:387 years old when my mom asked me to
  69. 2:41queue for shoes for all night.
  70. 2:43>> Wow.
  71. 2:44>> There was no food.
  72. 2:45There was no nothing to buy. I know what
  73. 2:47communism is.
  74. 2:49So, I'm trying to take action not to be
  75. 2:51observer, but I want to be a fighter.
  76. 2:55Go out to the people. Try to explain how
  77. 2:58evil communism is. They call themselves
  78. 3:00socialists. They call themselves selves
  79. 3:03social democrats. They are communists.
  80. 3:06And now I can hear from
  81. 3:08Bernie Sanders or AOC about the
  82. 3:10socialism and equality.
  83. 3:12Yeah, everyone was equal in Poland.
  84. 3:14Everyone was equally hungry in the same
  85. 3:17way. That's socialism.
  86. 3:19>> Obviously, you're here in the United
  87. 3:21States teaching a college course that's
  88. 3:23called communism in the past, present,
  89. 3:25and future. It's impact on the economy
  90. 3:28and individual freedom. So, what is it
  91. 3:31you are teaching in this course that you
  92. 3:33think is important for young Americans
  93. 3:35to hear?
  94. 3:36>> Reality.
  95. 3:36Reality, my personal experience because
  96. 3:39for young kids, and also for for for
  97. 3:42students, socialism is pictured as a
  98. 3:45beautiful idea of equality, right?
  99. 3:50I tell you why this is very important
  100. 3:53for me.
  101. 3:56It comes from my family.
  102. 3:58When
  103. 4:00World War II ended,
  104. 4:03communists took over Soviet Russia.
  105. 4:06And my grandfather said, "No, no, no.
  106. 4:08I'm not going to end the I'm not going
  107. 4:10to finish my my war because we've got
  108. 4:12new occupier,
  109. 4:14but it's the Poland is still occupied."
  110. 4:17So, he was in charge of underground army
  111. 4:20in in my city. And when he was 27,
  112. 4:25the only safe place where where he could
  113. 4:27sleep was empty grave at the cemetery.
  114. 4:32Communists would kill them straight
  115. 4:33away.
  116. 4:34Then my father, he was one of the
  117. 4:36founders of Solidarity in Poland in my
  118. 4:39town.
  119. 4:40When they tried to have a conversation
  120. 4:43about Poland, patriotism, values,
  121. 4:46they had to go out and have a walk to
  122. 4:48the cemetery because the whole home was
  123. 4:52tight.
  124. 4:54That's my childhood.
  125. 4:56I I do not want any child to go through
  126. 4:59this process.
  127. 5:01So, I think it's very important to have
  128. 5:03this um debates and uh and be with the
  129. 5:06with the students
  130. 5:08to
  131. 5:09challenge them.
  132. 5:10>> I want to name and go through a couple
  133. 5:12of the kind of foundational policies of
  134. 5:16the DSA platform, abolishing the current
  135. 5:19police and prison systems, defunding the
  136. 5:21Department of War and closing all US
  137. 5:24military bases overseas, eliminating the
  138. 5:27US Senate, the Supreme Court, and the
  139. 5:30presidency.
  140. 5:31Dominic, give me your thoughts on the
  141. 5:33DSA.
  142. 5:33>> Communism.
  143. 5:34Communism. I mean, 100%. You want to
  144. 5:36destroy your own country. That's what it
  145. 5:38is.
  146. 5:39I mean, mainly it's a mental disorder.
  147. 5:41It's a sabotage. No one would ever say
  148. 5:44these kind of things in Poland, not
  149. 5:46after 70 years of communism. None. Even
  150. 5:49the most radical left would not say such
  151. 5:51a ridiculous ideas. No one would propose
  152. 5:54that. So, the question is, who wants to
  153. 5:56who wants to push the Democrats?
  154. 5:59It has nothing to do with democracy.
  155. 6:01That's why I think midterms are so
  156. 6:03important because if
  157. 6:05I don't believe that but if they would
  158. 6:07win
  159. 6:08you would get what it is. That's my
  160. 6:12opinion as a European citizen.
  161. 6:14How important that is for you?
  162. 6:16Do you remember when
  163. 6:17President Trump said, "Okay, we're not
  164. 6:19going to take care of you. You're not
  165. 6:20paying 2% for NATO." Germans were
  166. 6:22laughing.
  167. 6:24Uh in UN. Who's laughing now?
  168. 6:27President said, "Okay, if you want to
  169. 6:29spend money on illegal migrants, on
  170. 6:31jihadists, but you don't want to pay 2%,
  171. 6:33I'm not your private bodyguard." Same
  172. 6:35night uh summit. European Union found
  173. 6:37money and they're going to pay.
  174. 6:39This is strong leadership. And Europe
  175. 6:42found out that okay, now we have to pay
  176. 6:44for what we agreed for in a treaty, 2%.
  177. 6:47So,
  178. 6:48this is how I see cooperation in a free
  179. 6:50world, really free world, because what
  180. 6:53we hear from socialists is just a
  181. 6:55utopia. It's it's not real.
  182. 6:58So,
  183. 6:59it's not real and and and so sad that so
  184. 7:02many people are still
  185. 7:04um
  186. 7:06manipulated to the extent
  187. 7:09that they are so radical
  188. 7:12that they're on the streets protesting
  189. 7:14against their own country, burning
  190. 7:17flags. It wouldn't happen in Poland,
  191. 7:18never.
  192. 7:20>> Another key tenant of the DSA platform
  193. 7:23is of course abolishing ICE. They want
  194. 7:24to grant amnesty to all illegal
  195. 7:26immigrants. We've seen Poland actually
  196. 7:28really crack down on migration. How
  197. 7:31important is that for a country to have
  198. 7:33secure borders?
  199. 7:34>> most important. This is why my political
  200. 7:37motto is be like Poland. Uh it comes
  201. 7:40from my speech in in European
  202. 7:41Parliament, when I said zero.
  203. 7:44Zero. Not [clears throat] even one.
  204. 7:46Not even one. Zero. We build the wall.
  205. 7:49And then, unfortunately, one of our
  206. 7:51soldiers was killed with a spear. Our
  207. 7:54parliament gathered two days. We changed
  208. 7:57the law. Now, we can use uh little
  209. 7:59weapon. We can use light bullets.
  210. 8:00Numbers dropped. This is why Poland is
  211. 8:03the safest uh country in the European
  212. 8:05Union. Highest GDP after COVID. The
  213. 8:08lowest number of rapes. No beheadings.
  214. 8:11No stabbings. We don't have that. It's
  215. 8:13official data. But, without strong
  216. 8:15America, there's no strong Europe.
  217. 8:18We need you. That's why I'm here.
  218. 8:19Because I love Poland.
  219. 8:21But, I love America, and I'm grateful
  220. 8:23for what you what you have done in the
  221. 8:24past.
  222. 8:25>> A Cato Institute survey found that 53%
  223. 8:28That's over half of Gen Z view socialism
  224. 8:32positively. And only 45% of them view
  225. 8:35capitalism positively. So, it it is
  226. 8:38going to be very tough with this
  227. 8:40generation. What do you hope they leave
  228. 8:42your course realizing about those two?
  229. 8:45>> I'm going to try to explain and compare
  230. 8:47it with capitalism and and what is the
  231. 8:49difference. How many people died under
  232. 8:52communism? Well, it's over 200 million.
  233. 8:55So, I I I'm going to I'm going to show
  234. 8:56historical facts, data, my personal
  235. 8:59experience. If this is not enough,
  236. 9:03I'm going to take you to one of the
  237. 9:04socialist country. We're going to spend
  238. 9:05there a week or two.
  239. 9:07And you're going to see
  240. 9:09when there is no food,
  241. 9:11when there is
  242. 9:12no housing,
  243. 9:14when there are
  244. 9:15the people are tortured,
  245. 9:17killed,
  246. 9:18raped. This is what happened in Poland.
  247. 9:21If you disagreed
  248. 9:23with the one political party, Communist
  249. 9:25Party, you were dead. They do not know
  250. 9:27what communism is. Let them see.
  251. 9:30>> Unfortunately, I don't think a lot of
  252. 9:32young Americans and Americans in general
  253. 9:34know the truth because we've been very
  254. 9:36fortunate in this country.
  255. 9:38>> That's right.
  256. 9:38>> 250 years of freedom and liberty has
  257. 9:41granted us the ability not to focus on
  258. 9:44that, not to really understand what
  259. 9:47communism and socialism is and what it
  260. 9:49does to a country. I'm curious um with
  261. 9:52with the rise of all these far-left
  262. 9:54radicals,
  263. 9:55is there any concern among your
  264. 9:57colleagues in Europe of history
  265. 9:59repeating itself?
  266. 10:00>> Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
  267. 10:01>> What do you hear?
  268. 10:03>> Well, what we what we are hearing is
  269. 10:05okay, communists will be back.
  270. 10:07And we have to be ready. But they are
  271. 10:09coming from the countries which never
  272. 10:12experienced communism. That's the
  273. 10:14problem. Sometimes you have to touch the
  274. 10:15bottom
  275. 10:16to realize what you just lost.
  276. 10:19So, I think it's very important
  277. 10:23for everyone in America to understand
  278. 10:25and this is
  279. 10:27my very personal
  280. 10:29do not let lunatics take over.
  281. 10:32Please vote. Do it for America. Do it
  282. 10:35for the free world. Do it for the
  283. 10:37Western civilization. Do it. I know
  284. 10:40there are things people are not happy
  285. 10:42about. We are not saints. We are not
  286. 10:44ideal. We make mistakes.
  287. 10:47Look at Poland. How many were shot dead
  288. 10:50during communism? Just because they were
  289. 10:52they were protesting.
  290. 10:54And this is what socialism leads you to,
  291. 10:57leads you to the radical radical left
  292. 10:59leads you to the communism, communism
  293. 11:01leads you to the dictatorship and death.
  294. 11:04Suffering, hunger, and death.
