- 0:13we do also feel like the police do have
- 0:15blood on their hands
- 0:17because they might as well have just
- 0:19loaded a gun and handed it to him he
- 0:20thought he was untouchable and clearly
- 0:22he was
- 0:23these are some of the last images of
- 0:25jack alive walking with his murderer
- 0:28stephen port
- 0:29images the police failed to find until
- 0:31weeks after jack became port's fourth
- 0:34and final victim
- 0:36you've got police officers in all
- 0:37different ranks
- 0:39that didn't do their job
- 0:41and had their dunham earlier on they
- 0:43could have saved lives it's
- 0:44heart-wrenching to think that actually
- 0:46they could have stopped this way before
- 0:47it even got to our jack and we wouldn't
- 0:49be sitting in there
- 0:51today a jury agreed that a litany of
- 0:53police failings plagued the initial
- 0:56investigations into port stephen did you
- 0:58have any involvement in his death i did
- 1:00not know who was free to kill again and
- 1:02again because basic checks weren't done
- 1:05and evidence wasn't sent for forensic
- 1:07tests
- 1:09anthony walgate his first victim was
- 1:12found in june 2014 after drugging him
- 1:14with a lethal overdose port left his
- 1:17body outside his flat he was later
- 1:19charged with lying about not knowing
- 1:21anthony and released on bail
- 1:24going on to kill gabriel kavari whose
- 1:26body was found in a churchyard just
- 1:28meters from port's front door
- 1:30three weeks later he killed daniel
- 1:32whitworth leaving his body in the same
- 1:35spot alongside a fake suicide note port
- 1:38had written
- 1:39a year later he killed his final victim
- 1:41jack taylor it was only after his
- 1:44sisters pieced together clues linking
- 1:46the four victims that police finally
- 1:48began a murder investigation
- 1:51after the jury's conclusion their
- 1:53families said they felt vindicated by
- 1:55the findings but their lawyer was
- 1:57scathing about the police's failures
- 2:00the inadequate investigation by the
- 2:02metropolitan police into the deaths of
- 2:04anthony gabriel daniel and jack should
- 2:07be on public record as one of the most
- 2:08widespread institutional failings in
- 2:11modern history
- 2:13for one year daniel whitworth's family
- 2:15were led to believe he'd taken his own
- 2:17life before being told he was murdered
- 2:20it's discrimination whether they want to
- 2:22see that or not
- 2:24when you're
- 2:26coming up against
- 2:28gay boys
- 2:29with drugs in their pocket
- 2:31dead on the side of the street
- 2:34says to me
- 2:36that oh here's another one
- 2:39the metropolitan police insist
- 2:41discrimination played no part in their
- 2:43investigations
- 2:45we completely accept that people's trust
- 2:47in us has been damaged
- 2:49by a number of recent events
- 2:52what has happened in connection with the
- 2:53deaths of these four young men is part
- 2:56of that damage
- 2:57despite numerous relatives and friends
- 2:59repeatedly raising concerns all say they
- 3:02were dismissed by police
- 3:04meaning lives that could have been saved
- 3:06weren't
- 3:07families are now suing the metropolitan
- 3:10police
