- 0:00Okay, I'll start my speech in three,
- 0:02two, one. Panels, how does it feels like
- 0:05when you always be praised consciously,
- 0:08always be labeled genius, and always be
- 0:09expected that you always be put high
- 0:11expectations inside of you? How the
- 0:13damage and the impact that they created
- 0:15to this genius persons or even people
- 0:17around them, which is the ordinary
- 0:19people? First, let's talk about the
- 0:21issues in such a score itself. That
- 0:22number one, people always seeing this
- 0:24genius is 100% correct, somebody that
- 0:27has no flaw inside of them. Secondly,
- 0:29then, they always want to normalize
- 0:31their actions because they think that
- 0:32this their actions is something that um
- 0:34always right, always in a good way.
- 0:37Thirdly, then, they always they want to
- 0:39give like they give like pressures to
- 0:40these children or somebody that who is
- 0:42labeled genius. Several set up them to
- 0:44clear this debate. One, when we say
- 0:46glorifications, how does it look like?
- 0:48A, there will be over praise or
- 0:50idolizations towards this genius
- 0:51persons. B, there will be normalizations
- 0:54of their behaviors because they are
- 0:55believing that there there's no flaw
- 0:57inside of their actions. And when say
- 0:59that glorifications, who are going to
- 1:01glorify this? We think that it will be
- 1:02parents itself, teachers, or even like
- 1:04the society.
- 1:06And let's characterize genius persons
- 1:09first.
- 1:10We think that genius is people who
- 1:11consider an exceptionally intelligent or
- 1:14talented, whether they're talented in
- 1:16only one field or could be like in
- 1:18multiple fields. Example, they're really
- 1:20good in math, they win tons of Olympics.
- 1:23That's what we consider as genius. And
- 1:24when say we regret it, meaning that we
- 1:26are actively reject it. Want to give
- 1:28notice to public if the glorifications
- 1:30to them not 100% correct because number
- 1:32one, it of course could lead to give
- 1:33praises to the peoples or the genius
- 1:35people. B, it will accepting or even
- 1:37supporting whatever they do, which every
- 1:40which they did could be creating a harms
- 1:42itself. Moving to my first arguments
- 1:44about creating an unhealthy pressures.
- 1:45When children or someone who is
- 1:47conscious who always be praised
- 1:48consciously, it will give pressures
- 1:50towards them. Of course, why it could
- 1:52happens? One is because they feel they
- 1:54need to always be perfect in
- 1:55everythings. If they feel it will make
- 1:57them think that they are not worthy
- 1:59anymore. Why they could think in that
- 2:01kind of way balance? Number one is
- 2:02because there is parents or social
- 2:04expectation that creates by the society
- 2:06or people around them. People always
- 2:08expect them to be wins or to become the
- 2:10best. And it give pressures and
- 2:13expectations to this genius persons that
- 2:15if I fails then these people are not
- 2:17going to appreciate me more. They're not
- 2:19going to praise them or like
- 2:21not going to celebrate them anymore.
- 2:24Secondly, then they always be idolized
- 2:26or overly praised the parent by the
- 2:28parents or even like the society itself.
- 2:30Because they always get like kind words
- 2:32that oh, you are really best. You are
- 2:35great in this kind of fields or even
- 2:37like the parents would give this
- 2:38children's gift as a celebrations for
- 2:41their winnings on competitions or
- 2:43something. They always make them think
- 2:45that this if they do if they fails or
- 2:47they don't win in competitions, then oh,
- 2:50they're not going to get a gift. They
- 2:51don't get praised and that's give
- 2:53pressures to this genius persons. And
- 2:55why did we think that is bad? Once when
- 2:57they face reality and we think that the
- 3:00reality not turn out perfectly, they
- 3:01going to crash out cuz they never fails.
- 3:03They never experience how it feels like
- 3:05to be failed and learn from the mistake
- 3:06that they make when they failing. Never
- 3:09it make them
- 3:11Every time they get bad words critics,
- 3:14they will be really like take it deeply
- 3:16into their hearts because they never
- 3:18heard that kind of words. They always be
- 3:20praised since they birth. They grow up
- 3:21with that praise. There's never be
- 3:23critics inside of them.
- 3:25For example like Rory Gilmore Sheldon's
- 3:27from Big Bang Theory series because they
- 3:29always be considered genius since they
- 3:31were birth, very talented when they do
- 3:33mistakes,
- 3:34they they get critics. They can't accept
- 3:37that and can't find solution. They just
- 3:39crash out immediately. Comparatively,
- 3:41people who just average or never get
- 3:43overly praised, they are some when they
- 3:46get critics or
- 3:47advice from other people, they going to
- 3:49use that to improve later because it's
- 3:51not something that will crash them
- 3:52immediately.
- 3:54That's the impact to the genius people.
- 3:55How about the ordinary people people
- 3:57around this genius? They also get
- 3:59unhealthy pressures. Why? Because they
- 4:00always get com- compared with the genius
- 4:02persons. Let's take a look in small
- 4:04amount panels like in classroom.
- 4:05Students that work hard or study hard
- 4:08but get average will be put aside or not
- 4:10going to get praise or attention from
- 4:12the teacher because they just level
- 4:13average from the beginning.
- 4:16On let's talk in work field then. The
- 4:18The comparison still exists even if it's
- 4:20in workplace because those genius still
- 4:23dominated and always be seen like oh
- 4:26this is the this one is the best. We
- 4:27should work We should just hire him or
- 4:30we just just give the works to him
- 4:32because he's the best. And then it will
- 4:34make them to feel worthless. The impact
- 4:36is that one people think their hard work
- 4:38is not appreciate. And so let's not
- 4:40study then cuz we'll always get level
- 4:42average, right? Or even if they're doing
- 4:44great example like one day they improve
- 4:46to effort but they may never get the
- 4:48some encouragement cuz they don't take
- 4:51get the attention since the beginning.
- 4:53They don't really that mental since the
- 4:54beginning so they just get ignored or
- 4:57like not really looked any more because
- 5:00uh they always they just the label that
- 5:03were given to them since the beginning
- 5:04it's something that stick on them until
- 5:06the end.
- 5:07And with the thing about comparisons it
- 5:09hurts yourself cuz it make you feel that
- 5:10you're not good enough as yourself.
- 5:12Number That's number one. Number two of
- 5:14course could create bias panels. If
- 5:16people already known as genius then
- 5:18other people would put the trust to
- 5:20these people, right? We think that to do
- 5:22great in job is not only required that
- 5:25you are genius. It needs experience. So
- 5:28when uh for example comparatively like
- 5:31there's somebody who already work in
- 5:32this field but maybe like they're not
- 5:34really
- 5:35knowns or not really like considered
- 5:37genius so they're not going to be given
- 5:39the chance to work. At the end of the
- 5:41day the work could be like get messed
- 5:43because it's not work by somebody that
- 5:45already experienced in that kind of
- 5:47fields.
- 5:48And moving on to my Therefore, we think
- 5:50that the
- 5:52glorifications of genius could create
- 5:54unhealthy pressures both to the ordinary
- 5:55people or even like the genius persons.
- 5:58Moving on to my second arguments then
- 5:59about We think we want to unjustified
- 6:02this glorifications cuz it creates
- 6:04inequality.
- 6:05We believe that this genius identity or
- 6:07characterized by someone as someone who
- 6:09is perfect, right? Like not everyone's
- 6:12like this. It could be like there's
- 6:14somebody that genius, there's somebody
- 6:16that is ordinary peoples. Or out of
- 6:18genius person, which we say like
- 6:20ordinary peoples. And even though they
- 6:23are good in certain field or even they
- 6:25they this ordinary people could be good
- 6:27in certain field or even like in many
- 6:29field, but maybe not the best as the
- 6:30genius persons. Or they only like good
- 6:33in one field, but they issue they
- 6:35achieve that after a long hard work or
- 6:38probably like we call it as low
- 6:40learners. And why it could creates in
- 6:42inequality? One, because they never get
- 6:45trusted to do the works because the
- 6:47stigmatizations that always appear
- 6:49inside of them because they are not
- 6:51labeled genius in the beginning, they
- 6:52always be labeled average in the
- 6:54beginning and it sticks to them as I
- 6:55said like until the end. They don't get
- 6:57the same encouragements anymore because
- 6:59they're not really be seen
- 7:02uh since the beginning of it.
- 7:04And
- 7:06because there is always be statement
- 7:07that they're not going to be best since
- 7:09they're not the genius ones. When
- 7:12especially when the company demand like
- 7:14high expectation like they want to
- 7:16improve the company so much, they're not
- 7:17going to give this job the chance to
- 7:20works to these people who is
- 7:23not genius or these ordinary peoples.
- 7:25What is the impact that panels? Of
- 7:27course number ones, it will make hard to
- 7:29get promotions because they always be
- 7:31under seen
- 7:33consider not worthy. Number two, they
- 7:35always be not
- 7:36they maybe not going to be passionate in
- 7:37their career any mores because like Um,
- 7:40they they're never be
- 7:43said that they are performing well.
- 7:44There's always be somebody that will
- 7:47outshine them, so they don't need they
- 7:49don't want to be pursuing their career
- 7:51not be pursuing and even being
- 7:53passionate into their career. Secondly
- 7:55then, that because they don't get enough
- 7:58attentions or praise
- 8:00they because they're not really that
- 8:01good or maybe they good but after a long
- 8:03times
- 8:04it could of course create inequality.
- 8:06The impact is that they will get an
- 8:08happiness life.
- 8:10They get pressures cuz they never felt
- 8:12that they are good enough. They never
- 8:14felt that they are worthy because they
- 8:15always be get compared by the genius.
- 8:18They never get trusted by the
- 8:20uh
- 8:21by the
- 8:22genius itself. Therefore, I'm really
- 8:24glad that the
