  1. 0:01I think that we'll all agree that
  2. 0:04motherhood starts way beyond the
  3. 0:07biological event and anyone including
  4. 0:11men can mother and plays the role of a
  5. 0:14mother father and peers would you women
  6. 0:18mother that's because the titles are
  7. 0:21male and female type with respect would
  8. 0:24you look into the face of a man that has
  9. 0:26just lost his wife and is really
  10. 0:28struggling to play the role of the
  11. 0:30mother and the father and say that to
  12. 0:31him you're not a mother
  13. 0:32it's the father that well you might be
  14. 0:34more sensitive in those circumstances so
  15. 0:36clearly following the role of the mother
  16. 0:38but it wasn't me I'd be a father I
  17. 0:39wouldn't suddenly morph into a mother
  18. 0:40again with respects to mother and to
  19. 0:43father are not gender specific they all
  20. 0:45just know don't know why we pretend the
  21. 0:47otherwise girls can't be your woman well
  22. 0:54yes I am a woman are you a man
  23. 0:56so can I suddenly say you know just
  24. 0:58literally say I'm I am a woman but I'm
  25. 1:01also capable of the skills it takes to
  26. 1:04father a child similarly you are a man
  27. 1:06and you are capable of the skills to
  28. 1:08mother a child I would hope I'm not sure
  29. 1:10though because nurturing caring is that
  30. 1:13in your four kids very well but they've
  31. 1:16always known knew their dad isn't it a
  32. 1:17mummy's what's wrong mother but the
  33. 1:19skill to mother is something that a man
  34. 1:22can also get why so the point is Sonja
  35. 1:25that you can you can do both of these
  36. 1:27jobs within the role of parent to define
  37. 1:30mothers and fathers by their gender
  38. 1:32sadly we do now if you'd have asked me
  39. 1:34two years ago I would have probably been
  40. 1:36on Amos side actually but now we've
  41. 1:38experienced the whole messing around
  42. 1:40with words and the categories and
  43. 1:41certainly the taking of female titles
  44. 1:44and you have to look at the origin of
  45. 1:45why that Twitter that tweet came to be
  46. 1:48and that tweet came to be because
  47. 1:49everybody thinks that they can suddenly
  48. 1:51put on woman face and be a woman and it
  49. 1:53was interesting very sexist tweet
  50. 1:55instantly because later on they were
  51. 1:57advertising for a male writer not
  52. 1:59somebody who identifies as male but a
  53. 2:01male writer so you can suddenly put on a
  54. 2:04dress and become a woman but you can't
  55. 2:05do the same with a man and men and
  56. 2:07fathers and mothers bring completely
  57. 2:09different skills
  58. 2:10well exactly and both genders are
  59. 2:12capable of both of those things yeah if
  60. 2:14mr. problem a man can't for example
  61. 2:16breastfeed is relevant because you can
  62. 2:20pretend to be a mother already likes but
  63. 2:22you can't press you know there are
  64. 2:25limitations to is intrinsically part of
  65. 2:31it is having home in your head would you
  66. 2:33say to a woman that can't breastfeed
  67. 2:34that that not her mother
  68. 2:35no do you say that is one of the many
  69. 2:38things that actually only a woman can do
  70. 2:40and it's really important we acknowledge
  71. 2:42it as well because mother that's not
  72. 2:45mothering mothers are women I hate to
  73. 2:47break it to you famous anymore but it's
  74. 2:50an insult to every damn mother if you
  75. 2:58want to be daddy you're not mommy if you
  76. 3:00look up in the dictionary to mother the
  77. 3:03verb to mother is something that a man
  78. 3:06is capable of Amy but can I just point
  79. 3:09out this is all about having a play
  80. 3:12essentially about motherhood yes so what
  81. 3:15what points is everybody have a view on
  82. 3:17motherhood right heart from mothers
  83. 3:19extended a man can play the role of a
  84. 3:22mother and have the skills say that
  85. 3:25listen a woman in relation to her
  86. 3:37children male parent you read the verb
  87. 3:43definition bring up a child with Karen
  88. 3:44efficient however a quotes she didn't
  89. 3:47know how to mother my brother he was
  90. 3:48very sensitive right she's mother to
  91. 3:50foals of his get birthday it's all
  92. 3:52female is a woman so now I think a lot
  93. 4:05of people will agree yeah fathers can
  94. 4:07bring mothering skills a parent they can
  95. 4:09bring but if you are asking yo a play
  96. 4:12yes that motherhood yeah derived from
  97. 4:15someone a woman's experience around
  98. 4:18salutely may well want a mother kind of
  99. 4:21silly evolved but the thing is let's be
  100. 4:22clear about this this is beyond some
  101. 4:24idiot writing a job advert for a London
  102. 4:26theater and trying to be PC
  103. 4:28this is also infecting the British
  104. 4:30Medical Association they had an internal
  105. 4:32memo where they wanted to rename
  106. 4:34expectant mothers as pregnant people
  107. 4:37that's the world we live in in we need
  108. 4:39to remember that babies come from women
  109. 4:41and fathers can be every bit as
  110. 4:43nurturing but in a different way mothers
  111. 4:45and fathers have different skill sets
  112. 4:46and absolutely if it's a play about
  113. 4:48motherhood it should absolutely be
  114. 4:50written by mother my mothers have
  115. 4:53different skill set yes men and women
  116. 4:56are both capable of those skill sets so
  117. 4:58why limit them peers are you a man yes
  118. 5:03right you're a man
  119. 5:05I'm currently identifying as a man
  120. 5:17during that debate okaybye said you were
  121. 5:19a father figure to me during this debate
  122. 5:21I said yes I'm sorry
  123. 6:16you
