- 0:07The men of Cusco come from our ancestors, the Inkas,
- 0:12the inkas come from the sun father
- 0:16por eso nosotros somos hijos del sol
- 0:22and Pachamama
- 0:29We arrived in Peru
- 0:30A country that stands out every time you hear it spoken
- 0:33For years I dreamed of getting to know this unique country in Latin America.
- 0:37Rich in culture, traditions
- 0:39that are still alive today,
- 0:42colors, aromas, stories and ancient legends
- 0:44was one of the things that
- 0:46the ancient capital of the Inca Empire promised.
- 0:48In this opportunity we are going to get to know Cusco
- 0:50and what its surroundings have to offer.
- 0:52Here we go!
- 0:54Well, good morning.
- 0:55We have just arrived in Cusco, we are with the boys.
- 0:58We are currently at 3400 meters above the sea level
- 1:01which is quite challenging to walk and move around a lot.
- 1:05So this first day we are going to try to take it quite calmly
- 1:07and then start with everything,
- 1:09we have some quite intense walks ahead.
- 1:10So good, excited for what's to come.
- 1:23Cusco is the historical capital of the country and
- 1:25has almost half a million inhabitants.
- 1:28Formerly it was the capital of the Inca Empire
- 1:30and the most important cities of the Viceroyalty of Peru.
- 1:47He was not going to give us just one day to explore this place
- 1:50and the views from above were impressive.
- 1:52The truth is that I really like that tint of the town
- 1:56here, the lights, everything has a very special look
- 1:58that makes the city shine
- 1:59not only during the day, but also at night.
- 2:08We are in Chincheros,
- 2:10at 3700 meters above sea level
- 2:12This is in Cusco, Peru
- 2:14and what the people do here
- 2:16is dedicate themselves clearly to the topic of dyeing alpaca wool
- 2:20and you are going to notice that in the decoration of their textiles
- 2:23and in the clothing of the ladies who are here
- 2:26regarding to colors, red for them symbolizes union,
- 2:30harmony.
- 2:31because, well, blood practically runs through the veins
- 2:34and as for black, it symbolizes the soul,
- 2:37mother earth.
- 2:38but it is also what we see and what is below mother earth
- 2:41that would be like the spiritual world.
- 2:58The sacred valley was a strategic territory for the Incas
- 3:01since it was a very productive territory for agriculture
- 3:04the main crops were corn, potatoes, quinoa
- 3:07and coca leaves, considered a sacred plant.
- 3:17In these little towns in the valley
- 3:19it is still noticeable how they maintain their traditions "to the surface"
- 3:23and their landscapes on the route are like something out of a movie.
- 3:37We are in the salt mines of Maras,
- 3:39and currently the locals harvest
- 3:41more than 3 thousand salt wells since the time bone pre Inca
- 3:45more than 600 years ago. imagine.
- 3:48And did technology change this or not?
- 3:50The technology as they see it.
- 3:53600 years ago, wow!
- 4:04This day in the valley showed us
- 4:06how amazing the local culture and traditions were and the
- 4:10next morning we started the day with a little problem.
- 4:15The next morning…
- 4:16We have left the truck, it is not moving forward
- 4:19and we are still *5 hours from the mountain of colors.
- 4:22So we don't know whether to walk, leave her here, come back.
- 4:26Against the odds and along a complicated path,
- 4:28we decided to climb on our own.
- 4:30To endure we eat coca leaves,
- 4:32to oxygenate the blood.
- 4:35You don't eat, you keep it here.
- 4:37The mission was to reach the famous mountain of colors
- 4:40at 5,200 meters above sea level.
- 4:43Walking through this incredible place
- 4:45we met locals who greeted us from their homes.
- 4:49Well, we walked a lot
- 4:50and it turns out that we still have about 3 hours to go
- 4:53up there.
- 4:55So we got some motorcycles, which come looking for us.
- 5:09Grateful to these gentlemen who saved our trip.
- 5:12And finally, in front of us, the mountain of colors.
- 5:46Upon arrival in Cusco we found out that
- 5:48we could not possibly visit Machu Picchu due to a strike
- 5:52so we had to act fast.
- 5:54Well now after everything that happened yesterday,
- 5:57at 11 pm they told us
- 5:59that we were not going to be able to go from Cusco to Machu Picchu
- 6:01due to a strike.
- 6:03So we decided to get on a bus at the last minute
- 6:06and drive 7 hours to get here.
- 6:08We are at the gate, basically where the tour begins,
- 6:11the walk to get to Aguas Calientes.
- 6:13So we have more or less 12 kilometers left
- 6:16which would be about three hours, two and a half hours of walking.
- 6:18Where tomorrow we will also go up to Machu Picchu
- 6:21to see the sunrise, so it will be interesting.
- 6:23It's raining a lot.
- 6:24We are waiting for the rain
- 6:26to stop a bit so we can start walking.
- 6:27This? Inca Kola
- 6:30It's good if you have a drink, then that's it…lol
- 6:39The walk was worth it,
- 6:40the views were incredible.
- 6:43After several hours of walking,
- 6:44we arrived at the town where we were going to sleep
- 6:47and prepare for tomorrow.
- 6:48Where we were going to see
- 6:50one of the most impressive wonders of the world,
- 6:52the ruins of Machu Picchu.
- 6:58Well we just got up here on the upper surface
- 7:00to see Machu Picchu at sunrise.
- 7:02but we were surprised that at the end there is a lot of fog
- 7:06But it is just clearing
- 7:07up so the rays can begin to appear.
- 7:09But this scenario that they have to see seems like something out of a movie, epic.
- 7:26We are here in the jungle
- 7:28specifically Machu Picchu
- 7:29at 2400 meters of altitude.
- 7:31This place was an ancient religious site of the Incas. The Incas
- 7:35loved living close to their gods.
- 7:38To the sun, to the moon, to the stars.
- 7:40Those were the reasons why they made constructions
- 7:43on the tops of the mountains.
- 7:48The Incas are children of the sun
- 7:50because the highest deity of the Incas was the sun.
- 7:53Formerly they called it in their language the "Inti"
- 7:56as the Sun God.
- 8:00They were living here, on the top of the mountain,
- 8:02isolated from everything, from the whole world.
- 8:05But they had everything, they needed practically nothing.
- 8:08They had animals, a territory for agriculture
- 8:11and they had the most important thing, the sixteen water sources
- 8:13that were located only on this mountain.
- 8:22A very key tip here is to always arrive at dawn
- 8:24when the light is hitting
- 8:26the entire city of Machu Picchu better and it looks incredible.
- 8:29There are not so many people at dawn
- 8:31so the experience is quite unique
- 8:32because we are alone in this place.
- 8:34And look at the view that you see, they are incredible.
- 8:39Our time in the jungle ended and it was time to return to Cusco.
- 8:43But not before without delighting
- 8:44in the impressive views that we saw along the way.
- 8:47And dance a little ofc.
- 8:55At the end of the trip,
- 8:56we had one last wonder to discover.
- 8:58That personally, was one of the ones that most attracted me to explore.
- 9:02Turquoise waters, green pastures and high snow-capped mountains.
- 9:06The legendary Humantay lagoon.
- 9:09Phew! The truth is that these days it was difficult
- 9:11to get up at two in the morning almost every day
- 9:14and travel eight hours a day.
- 9:16But today is the last day and we are arriving at the Humantay lagoon,
- 9:19one of the most impressive places
- 9:20around Cusco.
- 9:22It is quite a mental and physical challenge.
- 9:27It was not long before we arrived
- 9:29and the views... were
- 9:30breathtaking...
- 9:37We are in the Humantay lagoon,
- 9:38which is about 4250 meters above sea level
- 9:41The word "huma" means head or head of the gods.
- 9:45Humantay represents femininity.
- 9:48For the Incas it is very sacred, very special.
- 9:51It is like the reservoir of life and here we,
- 9:54since we originated in the mother's womb,
- 9:56are being formed in the water.
- 9:58They adored all the lagoons, called mamacochas.
- 10:06In this short but intense trip through Peru
- 10:09I left with many learnings
- 10:11One of them is respect for the Pachamama
- 10:14Sometimes in our daily life
- 10:15we can forget the value of our mother earth.
- 10:18Take out only what we need
- 10:19and connect a little more with the universe.
- 10:23I will be eternally grateful to the Peruvian people
- 10:26who opened their arms to us in the best way.
- 10:29See you soon Peru,
- 10:31there is still much more to descover
