  11. 0:32so we first saw this cow about four or
  12. 0:34five weeks ago and she had an abscess
  13. 0:36where poss was literally spraying out of
  14. 0:38she was incredibly lame and she was even
  15. 0:40lame on her back left and back right
  16. 0:43foot we saw her again two weeks later
  17. 0:45and this is how her food was looking
  18. 0:47this is cow 56 a little over four weeks
  19. 0:50ago and as you can see she had a huge
  20. 0:53abscess in her back right foot it was
  21. 0:56literally spraying out so we whipped out
  22. 0:58the knife and set about getting our back
  23. 1:01on the road to recovery
  24. 1:03we uncovered a huge cavity that had been
  25. 1:06filled with pus
  26. 1:08so we applied a block using buffybond
  27. 1:10and wrapped it with salicylic acid once
  28. 1:12we'd removed all of the huffhorn this is
  29. 1:15what it looked like before the bandage
  30. 1:17this is how she was walking afterwards
  31. 1:20she also had a sore back left foot
  32. 1:23so just over two weeks now we returned
  33. 1:26and this is what we found
  34. 1:27she was well on the road to recovery but
  35. 1:30definitely still had a long way to go
  36. 1:33the lesion was still open and as you can
  37. 1:35see it was weeping blood and therefore
  38. 1:37causing a lot of pain
  39. 1:39so we re-trimmed her re-wrapped her with
  40. 1:41salicylic acid and moved on to that
  41. 1:43painful left-hand foot
  42. 1:45as you can see during the first trim i
  43. 1:48had removed a lot of overburdening hoof
  44. 1:50horn
  45. 1:51and this time was going to be no
  46. 1:53different
  47. 1:54she has a white line defect and it's
  48. 1:56covered in digital dermatitis
  49. 1:59as you can see me peeling away the hoof
  50. 2:01horn there you can see the exposed
  51. 2:03corium
  52. 2:05right there and it's completely infected
  53. 2:08with digital dermatitis
  54. 2:10so again we completely doused it with
  55. 2:12iodine and we wrapped it with salicylic
  56. 2:14acid then as always we let her go to see
  57. 2:17how she was walking
  58. 2:19now we're back two weeks later
  59. 2:22so we've got our back in the crush and
  60. 2:24we're just about to get our foot in the
  61. 2:25air
  62. 2:26[Music]
  63. 2:27and after a little bit of a protest
  64. 2:29we've got our foot in the air so let's
  65. 2:31give it a bit of a wash up and see what
  66. 2:33the results are
  67. 2:38[Music]
  68. 2:42she quite clearly has a hole where that
  69. 2:45lesion was
  70. 2:46and i can't be certain right now if it
  71. 2:48has completely healed or not
  72. 2:52so i whip out the grinder clean the
  73. 2:53whole foot up before grabbing the knife
  74. 2:55to investigate further and i've got my
  75. 2:58fingers crossed that maybe just maybe
  76. 3:00this couch hoof is completely fixed
  77. 3:06[Music]
  78. 3:16our hoof is much tougher than it was
  79. 3:18last time we trimmed her that's because
  80. 3:20this block has elevated the bad claw out
  81. 3:22of the slurry and it's allowed it to dry
  82. 3:25out and become much harder this knife is
  83. 3:28really sharp but as you can see i'm
  84. 3:30having some difficulty slicing through
  85. 3:32it
  86. 3:33now onto the meat of the drum let's see
  87. 3:36if this really has or hasn't fixed
  88. 3:50[Music]
  89. 3:58the results are looking fantastic
  90. 4:00i'm really happy with this result
  91. 4:02but i need to be really careful cleaning
  92. 4:04this up one little slip and all of my
  93. 4:07good work could be undone this hoof horn
  94. 4:10is less than a millimeter thick in
  95. 4:12places and these knifes and grinders are
  96. 4:15very sharp indeed so the word of the day
  97. 4:17is caution
  98. 4:20this transformation makes me a very
  99. 4:23happy tremor now on to that second fruit
  100. 4:26but before we left our second foot i
  101. 4:28launched an online course back in march
  102. 4:29of this year and i wasn't sure if it
  103. 4:31would work an online hooptering course
  104. 4:33how can that work well hundreds and
  105. 4:35hundreds and hundreds of people all
  106. 4:36around the world signed up for it and
  107. 4:38it's been helping them massively and
  108. 4:40what i want to do is give back a little
  109. 4:42bit more and make sure i can help as
  110. 4:44many of you as possible so if you lot
  111. 4:45that have participated and signed up for
  112. 4:47the online course want some feedback and
  113. 4:49want some one-to-one time with me then
  114. 4:50contact me at hello at
  115. 4:53learnthehoofgp.com that's hello at
  116. 4:55learnthehoofgp.com if you've taken the
  117. 4:57online course i'll take half an hour out
  118. 4:59of my time to speak to you guys and give
  119. 5:01you any pointers or fill you in and
  120. 5:03anything that you feel you're lacking or
  121. 5:05give you feedback or anything you want
  122. 5:06really about your farms and about your
  123. 5:08cows i really want to help you guys as
  124. 5:10much as i can and then we'll broadcast
  125. 5:12that to the masses to help everybody
  126. 5:14else so if you want some one-to-one time
  127. 5:16with me then get in contact with me at
  128. 5:18hello at
  129. 5:19learnthehoofgb.com and hopefully we can
  130. 5:21learn something from each other now
  131. 5:23let's get our second foot in the air
  132. 5:27this cow had a deep crack in the white
  133. 5:29line of this bat left foot and these are
  134. 5:31notoriously hard to fix she was
  135. 5:34completely infected with digital
  136. 5:36dermatitis on both the first and second
  137. 5:38trims so i don't have high hopes for
  138. 5:41this one
  139. 5:42i'm expecting the problem still to be
  140. 5:44there
  141. 5:52and as you can see the lesion is still
  142. 5:54there and is marginally better and she
  143. 5:56is much more comfortable
  144. 5:58but i'm still worried that we haven't
  145. 6:00completely cured this problem
  146. 6:02so we douse it in item
  147. 6:04and add another block
  148. 6:10a cow's wall horn grows at around six or
  149. 6:12seven millimeters per month and we've
  150. 6:14just removed around 10 millimeters
  151. 6:16meaning these blocks need to last at
  152. 6:18least six weeks so the extra height will
  153. 6:20be seriously beneficial to this cow now
  154. 6:23let's get out the crush and say bye bye
  155. 6:33so in the little interlude i talked
  156. 6:35about the guys who have done the online
  157. 6:37course and this is what it teaches you
  158. 6:39how to cure cows like this but it is
  159. 6:42about give and take so like i said
  160. 6:44earlier on contact me at hello at
  161. 6:47learnthehoofgp.com and hopefully we can
  162. 6:49do a one-to-one and give you as much
  163. 6:51feedback as possible cheers guys from me
  164. 6:53and from cow56 goodbye catch you next
  165. 6:56time
