- 0:07so
- 0:08and a short cycle that i've been doing
- 0:10with my eighth graders
- 0:11is for the earth room dissection this
- 0:13takes about five days total from
- 0:15beginning to end including notes a lab
- 0:17and quiz so there's two forms of
- 0:19assessment so part of my entire cycle i
- 0:22have the plan
- 0:23that the kids can see included in this
- 0:25cycle are two different types
- 0:27of i can statement we have skills so for
- 0:30this one
- 0:31it's about i can perform an external and
- 0:33internal dissection of an earthworm
- 0:36and for content they have to know i can
- 0:38identify organs and systems
- 0:40i can describe how a worm can adapt in
- 0:43order to survive
- 0:44and i can infer symmetry so these are
- 0:48the four
- 0:49i can statements that they'll be
- 0:50assessing and how they're going to do
- 0:52that
- 0:52for this part of the cycle is that they
- 0:54have to get a 70
- 0:56or higher on the quiz they're also going
- 0:58to be doing an assessment as a lab as a
- 1:00hands-on skill assessment
- 1:02and a hands-on review is something that
- 1:05they'll also be doing when i come around
- 1:06and ask them to identify things in the
- 1:08lab
- 1:10i will be doing giving demonstrating the
- 1:12earthworm through a flipped lesson that
- 1:14the kids will be watching before they
- 1:15come to school at home and answering
- 1:17some questions on a google form
- 1:19and then the hands-on review is
- 1:20something that they do part of the lab
- 1:23and then the students will complete the
- 1:25dissection
- 1:26they will study and prepare for their
- 1:29quiz
- 1:29that they'll be taking here shortly
- 1:33okay so now we're going to take a look
- 1:34at our data after we've completed
- 1:36our assessment being the dissection the
- 1:38hands-on practical where i came around
- 1:40and talked to you
- 1:41and then the clicker quiz so here's our
- 1:43clicker quiz results
- 1:44and according to our learning goal
- 1:46remember the 70 bar is where we want to
- 1:48hit
- 1:49so each one of you is a colored bar i'm
- 1:52not telling you who's who of course and
- 1:53no they're not alphabetically
- 1:55you could see when i drew the bar in
- 1:58nine of you
- 2:00fell below the bar now some of you is
- 2:01just one question below
- 2:04some of you with more than one question
- 2:06so now that we've gone through the short
- 2:08cycle and we think about
- 2:10what we've done including the dissection
- 2:12the notes
- 2:13the flipped lesson where you watched to
- 2:16learn before you came here
- 2:17and taking the quiz it's time to give
- 2:19feedback so stuff that was good
- 2:22that helped you hit the 70 bar
- 2:25or if you didn't maybe because you all
- 2:27know what it said on your clicker what
- 2:28are some things we can change
- 2:30before we do our crayfish dissection
- 2:32which is about
- 2:33two weeks away so we can all get from
- 2:36here
- 2:36to here so take a minute and then give
- 2:39me i need a positive
- 2:40and or negative whatever you can come up
- 2:42with
- 2:44anybody have a positive and or negative
- 3:03so the tour is a positive so when we do
- 3:05the crayfish i should make sure i come
- 3:06around and give you a tour
- 3:07all right positive yeah i like the
- 3:09points how you did the
- 3:11little tests so you like the lab
- 3:14practical you like when i came around
- 3:16and said show me what you know
- 3:18okay got it yes i just like the
- 3:20dissection
- 3:22it's a good learning tool so we should
- 3:24so you prefer
- 3:25virtual real or both
- 3:28real only was the virtual helpful
- 3:32yeah this one wasn't kind of busy so
- 3:35we're kind of half and half on the
- 3:36virtual yes um i liked how you made us
- 3:39update instead of here okay so it was a
- 3:41good thing that you had to do it
- 3:43did you feel you learned more because
- 3:44you actually did it yourself
- 3:46yeah yes any other stuff when we were
- 3:49working with diagrams
- 3:51this whole unit we were working with a
- 3:52diagram of
- 3:54a word that's alive and stuff
- 3:58but you didn't
- 4:07okay so maybe the virtual dissection
- 4:11now there you saw live pictures right so
- 4:13you would like a worksheet with live
- 4:14pictures on
- 4:15what you're telling me so somehow i
- 4:17should provide a live picture
- 4:19and a review okay not just diagrams
- 4:22drawings
- 4:23gotcha yes cool in some ways i agree
- 4:26with them in some ways i don't
- 4:28okay there's uh situations where the
- 4:31diagrams aren't very clear
- 4:32and i always think the diagrams help a
- 4:35lot when they are clear but a lot of
- 4:36their lives which is like don't tell
- 4:37what was pointing yet and then some of
- 4:39the pictures that
- 4:39um
- 4:44so we're kind of like you know that's a
- 4:46good point to make because live stuff
- 4:49is easier to see when you're looking at
- 4:50it but in a picture like the digital
- 4:52picture it's not always the best
- 4:53where a drawing sometimes makes it much
- 4:55more clear
- 4:56on your final assessment your test i'm
- 4:58going to tell you now if you draw it
- 5:00it's not a live picture so it's clear
- 5:03max
- 5:04nice and loud i liked how we like
- 5:08did the drawings in the packet
- 5:12so you felt you creating your own
- 5:14drawings helps you learn more
- 5:16perfect any other positives or negatives
- 5:18i can take back before we do our crate
- 5:20fish dissection this is good feedback
- 5:23okay wonderful
