  1. 0:00Every time the US men's national team
  2. 0:02poops to bed, we get these experts that
  3. 0:05talk about how pay to play is the
  4. 0:07problem. It's too expensive for kids to
  5. 0:10play soccer in this country. And they're
  6. 0:12right to a certain extent, but they
  7. 0:14never present any solution, which opens
  8. 0:16the door for Alexi Lawless to ask, who's
  9. 0:19going to pay for it? It's a business, so
  10. 0:22who the hell's going to pay for it? And
  11. 0:23Alexi Lis is also right. And understand,
  12. 0:26paytoplay on its own is not the problem.
  13. 0:28Payto play is here to stay. In countries
  14. 0:30like Brazil, the countries in Europe,
  15. 0:32they all have paytoplay. They all have
  16. 0:34it, but they also have a lot of
  17. 0:35freemies. So, how do you get a lot of
  18. 0:37freemies, right? Who funds that? It's
  19. 0:40the open pyramid. When you have
  20. 0:42promotion relegation, which is
  21. 0:43merit-based, and you get small
  22. 0:45investors, big investors, not just
  23. 0:47Wales, all over the country, and there's
  24. 0:48the possibility of moving up the ranks,
  25. 0:51you solve that issue. Now, mind you,
  26. 0:53there would be growing pains in the
  27. 0:55United States to implement this. And
  28. 0:57also I don't blame MLS. I don't blame
  29. 0:59MLS for having a closed system. They
  30. 1:02have that option and MLS has to look
  31. 1:03after MLS. MLS is 100% right with what
  32. 1:07they do. It has to come from the US
  33. 1:09Soccer Federation and we need an open
  34. 1:11pyramid in the US that will allow
  35. 1:13investors to invest at the state level.
  36. 1:15You need state tournaments and from the
  37. 1:17state tournament you can qualify to
  38. 1:19division 4 and then from division four
  39. 1:21all the way to one you just have
  40. 1:22promotion relegation. That's how it
  41. 1:24should work cuz the US is such a big
  42. 1:25country. Once you do that, you will get
  43. 1:27more and more investors in small teams,
  44. 1:30local teams. Many of them will have
  45. 1:32paytoplay and the paytoplay will fund
  46. 1:34the freemies for the more talented
  47. 1:36players. So, they can try to move up the
  48. 1:38ranks or sell these players, right?
  49. 1:39There's also solidarity payments from
  50. 1:41FIFA and many other things that I could
  51. 1:42dive into in this video, but it's a
  52. 1:44short. I can maybe talk more about it on
  53. 1:46YouTube where I can talk about it for 20
  54. 1:47minutes or or an hour. I can go on
  55. 1:49forever. But if US Soccer implements an
  56. 1:53open pyramid promotional relegation
  57. 1:55correctly going from the state level to
  58. 1:58the national level, it would work in the
  59. 2:00US. There would be growing pains, but
  60. 2:02ultimately you would solve the
  61. 2:03payto-play issue. Not by getting rid of
  62. 2:05paytoplay, but increasing the number of
  63. 2:07themmies. Like right now with MLS, we
  64. 2:09have what in the country like 30
  65. 2:10freemies maybe, maybe because MLS next
  66. 2:14pro outside of the MLS teams, it's
  67. 2:15mostly paid for. And then you go to
  68. 2:17London, which is a city way smaller than
  69. 2:19the US, shall I say? They probably have
  70. 2:2230 freemies just in London. Why is that,
  71. 2:25right? Why is a rich country like the US
  72. 2:26struggling with this? I just told you we
  73. 2:29need an open pyramid for soccer. Simple
  74. 2:31as that. There would be growing pains.
  75. 2:33It would take time, but in 10 to 15
  76. 2:35years, you would see a massive
  77. 2:37difference. All right? So again, as
  78. 2:41stupid as that sound, as simple as it
  79. 2:42sounds, that's the solution.
