- 0:16brave at the
- 0:17moment my spaceship's Galactic
- 0:20navigation system is
- 0:22broken I'm lost without
- 0:24[Music]
- 0:28it look there's a planet up
- 0:32ahead maybe there are some people there
- 0:34that I can ask for
- 0:36directions I hope they're
- 0:40[Music]
- 0:41friendly there's ice at the
- 0:44poles and I can even see two small moons
- 0:48where could I
- 0:50be my spaceship is picking up a signal
- 0:53maybe someone's trying to say hello I'm
- 0:56going to find out the signal is being
- 0:59sent by this probe it's the European
- 1:01space agency's Mars Express spacecraft I
- 1:05definitely know where we are now this is
- 1:08the planet
- 1:11Mars but I bet you'd already worked that
- 1:13out hadn't
- 1:15[Music]
- 1:17you humans have sent more than 40
- 1:20robotic missions to explore Mars soon
- 1:23there'll be
- 1:25more some are in orbit like Mars Express
- 1:28and some have landed on the surface like
- 1:30a NASA rover called
- 1:33curiosity they've revealed a lot of
- 1:35Mars's
- 1:39Secrets H I cannot see any towns or
- 1:43cities but what a fantastic
- 1:47landscape this planet is made from Rock
- 1:50like Earth Earth's surface has lots of
- 1:53colors green blue white brown but this
- 1:57planet it's mostly shades of red luckily
- 2:00red is my favorite color other than
- 2:02green of
- 2:06course there are mountains and valleys
- 2:09and dust being moved by the
- 2:12wind let's land and
- 2:18explore but first I have to fix my
- 2:23spaceship oh
- 2:26[Music]
- 2:28[Applause]
- 2:29[Music]
- 2:36that scared me this is curiosity the
- 2:40Rover I told you about before the name
- 2:43really suits
- 2:46her I'll just reattach this loose wire
- 2:49and my Galactic navigation system is
- 2:54fixed Mars is a close neighbor of the
- 2:57earth considering how big the solar
- 2:59system is
- 3:00it orbits the sun just like the earth
- 3:02and the other
- 3:08planets did you know that Mars is
- 3:11covered in a layer of Rusty dust that
- 3:14gives the planet its lovely red
- 3:16[Music]
- 3:20color if you ever visit you simply must
- 3:23go to Olympus Mons it's the tallest
- 3:25volcano in the solar
- 3:28system nearly three times higher than
- 3:31Earth's Mount
- 3:35Everest wow from up here I can see valid
- 3:40marineris a gigantic Canyon that would
- 3:42stretch from Spain to
- 3:46Finland and I can see that Mars has lots
- 3:49of dry River
- 3:52beds where water must have once flowed a
- 3:56long time ago
- 4:00I can't see any rivers today only ice in
- 4:03a few
- 4:07[Music]
- 4:09places do you think that alien creatures
- 4:12have ever lived or are living on
- 4:16Mars well that's another story which
- 4:19will save for another
- 4:23time so we've seen that Mars has a rocky
- 4:27surface with really fascinating features
- 4:31it has mountains and
- 4:34valleys there are also Dry River beds
- 4:37there must have been lots of water here
- 4:38in the
- 4:40past it even has Polar Ice cups and two
- 4:44small
- 4:47moons and there are robots exploring
- 4:50Mars
- 4:53[Music]
