  2. 0:12hello it's paxi your favorite space
  3. 0:16Explorer I'm trying a new fun activity
  4. 0:19today ice skating did you know that I'm
  5. 0:23skating on Frozen
  6. 0:25water water is very special in its
  7. 0:29liquid form you can drink it in its gas
  8. 0:33form it's vapor in the air in its solid
  9. 0:36state it's ice that we can skate on did
  10. 0:40you know the Earth's poles help cool
  11. 0:42down the planet that's because most of
  12. 0:45the ice on Earth is found in the polar
  13. 0:47regions known as Earth's refrigerators
  14. 0:51let's explore ice in these areas let's
  15. 0:55travel to the Arctic Circle the area
  16. 0:58around the North Pole
  17. 1:00here there is an ocean capped with
  18. 1:03floating sea ice which forms as the
  19. 1:06seawater freezes during the very cold
  20. 1:10Winters without sea ice the oceans would
  21. 1:13absorb the sun's heat making the earth a
  22. 1:16much warmer Planet sea ice helps prevent
  23. 1:20this by bouncing sunlight back to
  24. 1:23space polar bears love sea ice because
  25. 1:26it helps them find food
  26. 1:30let's travel to Antarctica the continent
  27. 1:33at the South
  28. 1:35Pole Antarctica is one large sheet of
  29. 1:38ice formed by snow piling up over
  30. 1:41thousands of years on land 90% of
  31. 1:45Earth's land ice is in Antarctica
  32. 1:48Antarctica is a cool place to live but
  33. 1:51mostly for
  34. 1:53Penguins it's so cold that only a few
  35. 1:57humans can live here in special research
  36. 2:00bases for a short period of
  37. 2:02time places like this are very important
  38. 2:06for the planet when the sun shines here
  39. 2:10the ice bounces the sunlight back to
  40. 2:12space helping Earth
  41. 2:15cool there is so much ice on Earth how
  42. 2:19can we know how much there
  43. 2:22is scientists monitor the amount of ice
  44. 2:26in the world using tools such as
  45. 2:28satellites
  46. 2:30the European Space Agency satellite that
  47. 2:32monitors ice is called
  48. 2:35cryosat scientists are watching the
  49. 2:37amount of ice on Earth decrease every
  50. 2:39year and that is because our planet is
  51. 2:43getting warmer melting ice causes water
  52. 2:46levels in the ocean to rise which leads
  53. 2:49to flooding and loss of habitat for
  54. 2:52animals and humans all around the
  55. 2:57world Ice is very important important to
  56. 3:00earth's climate the more we know about
  57. 3:03changes in ice the quicker we can take
  58. 3:06steps to protect our planet and keep on
  59. 3:10enjoying ice today we learned ice is
  60. 3:15frozen water and could be found on land
  61. 3:18and at Sea when and where it is cold sea
  62. 3:22ice forms when sea water freezes during
  63. 3:25the very cold
  64. 3:27Winters ice helps the earth cool by
  65. 3:30reflecting heat from the Sun back into
  66. 3:34space scientists use satellites to study
  67. 3:37ice melting and the impact it has on our
  68. 3:41planet most land ice is found in
  69. 3:46Antarctica see you soon to show you more
  70. 3:50incredible things about your planet and
