- 0:10hello there nice to see you again I've
- 0:12had so many adventures in space lately
- 0:15that I needed a
- 0:17holiday I like to relax on the beautiful
- 0:20beaches you have here on planet Earth
- 0:23the Sun makes it lovely and warm I could
- 0:26easily spend all day here but oh look
- 0:30now the sun has gone when the sun sets
- 0:33it's night time look at all the stars in
- 0:36the sky we can see thousands from here
- 0:40did you know that the sun is also a star
- 0:43it is your star the sun rises every
- 0:46morning making it daytime all the stars
- 0:49we see at night are still there but
- 0:51because the sun is the closest star to
- 0:54Earth it is so bright we can't see the
- 0:56fainter stars that are farther away the
- 0:59Sun gives us light and warmth perfect
- 1:02for my
- 1:03holiday from down here it looks like the
- 1:07sun and stars move around Earth but is
- 1:10that what's really happening let's find
- 1:12out to
- 1:15action from space we can see that the
- 1:18Earth is
- 1:20spinning it's daytime for the side that
- 1:23is facing the sun on the other side it's
- 1:26nighttime the Earth spins on its axis an
- 1:30imaginary tilted line that goes from the
- 1:32North Pole to the South Pole from the
- 1:36ground it looks like the sun and stars
- 1:38are moving but in fact it is the earth
- 1:41that is spinning although you can't
- 1:44really feel it moving it's an optical
- 1:47illusion it takes 24 hours for the earth
- 1:50to make a full spin a whole day and
- 1:56night as well as spinning on its axis
- 1:59the Earth orbits the sun it takes the
- 2:03earth
- 2:04365 days and a quarter to make a
- 2:07complete orbit around the Sun so every 4
- 2:11years you add these quarter days
- 2:13together and have a leap year which has
- 2:16366 days during this time we experience
- 2:21different seasons on Earth why is that
- 2:24when sunlight reaches our planet it's
- 2:27more concentrated in some places than
- 2:29than in others in those places it's
- 2:32warmer but because the Earth's axis is
- 2:35tilted it's not always warm in the same
- 2:38place on Earth for example in Europe
- 2:42when the northern hemisphere is tilted
- 2:44towards the sun it's summer there the
- 2:47Sun appears to be very high in the sky
- 2:50days are longer and warmer
- 2:54hooray when the northern hemisphere is
- 2:57tilted away from the sun it's wind to
- 3:01there the Sun appears to be lower in the
- 3:04sky so we get less light and less
- 3:09warmth not so good for Beach holidays
- 3:12but good for
- 3:16stargazing winter and summer are the
- 3:19other way around if you're in the
- 3:21southern
- 3:22hemisphere maybe I should take my winter
- 3:25breaks in
- 3:27Australia we've seen that the Sun is a
- 3:30star that the Earth rotates on its axis
- 3:33and this gives us day and night and that
- 3:37the seasons change as the Earth orbits
- 3:39the Sun
