- 0:46like 2013 what was how many children was
- 0:50flavor up to at that time know what I
- 0:52haven't kept count like I told them I
- 0:54would you haven't kept track he did he
- 0:58was here to slinging like he had like
- 1:00spicy chicken he gave it to the audience
- 1:02all right it was a cooking demonstration
- 1:03we don't think it felt like a dream not
- 1:06an aspirational dream but I mean like a
- 1:08dream where you drink
- 1:14as fun as yes he opened a not a chain
- 1:18maybe I don't know if it still exists
- 1:20but he opened his own fried chicken
- 1:22restaurant it's you know what it is it's
- 1:24a saturated market a lot there's a lot
- 1:27of fast food options it's a literally
- 1:30saturated market well and where did you
- 1:32grow up where are you from from Saginaw
- 1:35Michigan it's just uh you know hey I
- 1:38know we'd get that response our warm-up
- 1:42guide on is from Saginaw and he tells
- 1:44the audience this every single night and
- 1:46no one really ever dares but he tells us
- 1:49that every single night yeah yeah you
- 1:51guys are both Saginaw we ins what is
- 1:53that order you go by what do what do I
- 1:55want sagging sagging awesome sagging
- 1:59awesome that's good I would make for a
- 2:01nice t-shirt it someone is literally
- 2:04making plans for it as they watch the
- 2:05show I know you probably got here by a
- 2:07plane or something like that but why did
- 2:09you move to Los Angeles I I wanted to
- 2:12act I I sort of immersed myself in this
- 2:14my entire life I was like you know
- 2:16obsessed with it and and I went to be a
- 2:19background extra in a movie and it was a
- 2:22movie written and directed by Lance
- 2:23black who wrote milk he won an Academy
- 2:25Award for running milk which is a
- 2:27beautiful oh yeah right and and I just
- 2:29saw him at the audition and I figured
- 2:31I'm not gonna get a speaking part but I
- 2:32just saw him and I thought I'm gonna
- 2:33congratulate him on his Oscar so I
- 2:35walked up and I said hey I just want to
- 2:37say congrats on milk it's a beautiful
- 2:38film I love your speech I'm a Christian
- 2:41and when you said God doesn't hate gay
- 2:42people like that brought me to tears
- 2:44that needs to be said thank you and I
- 2:46just said what I felt and was ready to
- 2:48walk away and and he said there might be
- 2:50a part for you let me get your name and
- 2:52he brought me back and and I booked like
- 2:54[Applause]
- 2:57yeah he remembered you from that from
- 3:00that he didn't even know if you could
- 3:01act and he gave me that part well I did
- 3:04have to audition but um but you know I
- 3:05was pretty like I said I was very
- 3:07aggressive and immersive so well guys I
- 3:09was auditioning against they worked at
- 3:10like Sam Goody they didn't you know they
- 3:12didn't work yet you know they weren't as
- 3:14obsessed as I was this was back home
- 3:16this is back home in Michigan and I made
- 3:19some money and I moved to LA two months
- 3:21later was crazy oh you made the money
- 3:22and then that got you out here yeah if
- 3:24you keep in touch with him at all
- 3:26I texted I tried to bother him he's a
- 3:27busy guys got family and he's you know
- 3:29he's doing speaking engagements but I I
- 3:31text him once a year just to remind him
- 3:32like you gave Lance Black gave me my
- 3:34start yeah yeah that's better he takes
- 3:37some pleasure in that and he's gonna be
- 3:39excited to see you in this movie well
- 3:41you know this movement which I thought
- 3:43was great and you were fantastic in it
- 3:45it's called Richard Jewell this is the
- 3:47story of the man who is now deceased who
- 3:52was wrongly accused of planting a bomb
- 3:55at the Olympics in Atlanta it was in
- 3:58it's a you know it's a sad it is a sad
- 4:00story for sure it's heavy you know it's
- 4:03one of those movies that it's sort of
- 4:06like you have to google it afterwards
- 4:07because some of the things seem so
- 4:08unbelievable and then you find out the
- 4:10real and it's and it's pretty
- 4:11jaw-dropping and painful but um but we
- 4:13kept it light on the set you know we had
- 4:14guests speaking of it being real yeah I
- 4:17mentioned this to Sam Rockwell when he
- 4:19was here I was there in I was working at
- 4:23a radio station I was in the parking lot
- 4:25of Sat litter Jules apartment complex
- 4:28what's with the media that was depicted
- 4:31in the film and it looked and it is
- 4:34exactly as I remembered it I mean
- 4:37exactly as I remembered it and it's a
- 4:39very strange experience to see that it's
- 4:41almost like watching like a home movie
- 4:43or something but yeah I happen to be
- 4:44there covering the Olympics I was a
- 4:46sports guy on a radio station and this
- 4:48happened it became the big story and we
- 4:50were out the parking lot just waiting
- 4:52for something I don't know what knots it
- 4:54was I was around a 24-hour you know 24/7
- 4:56news cycle and yes events of that so
- 4:58suddenly everybody's like maybe we'll
- 5:00just stay here to see what we get and
- 5:02we'll put it on whenever you know is it
- 5:04intimidating to be directed by Clint
- 5:07Eastwood no and it should have
- 5:11and I don't say that out of any like
- 5:12poise or arrogance it's more like he
- 5:15puts you at ease he reminds you he's a
- 5:16film fan himself and although a lot of
- 5:19the great directors I've worked with
- 5:20spike lead Kraig glass bead Clint
- 5:22Eastwood they all show that there's
- 5:23still fans and people and family men so
- 5:26it it de-escalates the nerves but but um
- 5:29I was more you know nervous to me Bobby
- 5:31jewel Richard's mother I mean that was
- 5:33crazy oh yeah oh you met his mother she
- 5:35came out of the Warner Brothers lot and
- 5:36and I was just like you know I got the
- 5:38part holy cow and then a couple days
- 5:40later they're like you got to come back
- 5:41and meet the real people and I'm like oh
- 5:42this is feels like another audition so I
- 5:45go in to meet them but they couldn't
- 5:46have been sweeter at one point Bobby
- 5:48Jewell was looking at me like a
- 5:50thousand-yard stare and so I'm wondering
- 5:52if she's judging me and she mad that I'm
- 5:54the guy who's playing her son and then
- 5:56she goes you look just like Richard do
- 5:58you let you assign my son Wow and she
- 6:00says you're doing things like him that
- 6:03you don't even know you're doing that
- 6:04her like him so it felt like the
- 6:06ultimate sign off to get it you know her
- 6:08approval I would imagine so what were
- 6:10you doing intentionally doing things
- 6:12like him or was itwas looking for bombs
- 6:14in the office some inherent stuff you
- 6:21know we're we do have similar tendencies
- 6:24and traits you know I'm sure you do you
- 6:26think so huh yeah more than I like a lot
- 6:29of the characters I play whether good
- 6:30guys are scummy guys I got a lot in
- 6:32common with a lot of them there's a
- 6:34reason there's a reason I get these
- 6:35parts you know what I mean do you think
- 6:38that Clint Eastwood is someone you will
- 6:40like keep in touch with regularly over
- 6:43the course of your life god I hope so
- 6:45I mean I'll hopefully he's not sick of
- 6:46me he's been seeing a lot of me recently
- 6:48but uh I make him laugh - you know like
- 6:50I try I'm I'm the same but I don't know
- 6:52how to put on like airs I just I'm the
- 6:54same person with everybody so I had fun
- 6:56making a bluff and just keeping what
- 6:58makes Clint Eastwood laughs I think
- 7:00spontaneity he's so used to so much of
- 7:02what he does that like he's made like
- 7:0430-some movies that I just tried like
- 7:07you know keep keeping it moving and
- 7:09keeping the improv go there was a day
- 7:10where we did a karaoke scene which thank
- 7:11God isn't in the film seriously we had a
- 7:15karaoke scene like a cut but but in the
- 7:17scene I I you know Clint looked at me at
- 7:19one point as if there wasn't enough
- 7:20pressure and he goes do you even know
- 7:22how to sing
- 7:24and I just everyone's looking at like 40
- 7:26crew members are looking at me after he
- 7:28says that I go L is for the way you
- 7:32looked at me I'm talking to you Clint II
- 7:35I just like I immediately went into like
- 7:37a whole like you know Frank Sinatra
- 7:40thing and he was cracking up and he
- 7:42looked at me he goes always with the
- 7:44tricks well you did a terrific job in
- 7:49the movie it's R it's really good it's
- 7:51called Richard Jewell it opens in
