- 0:00you'd be surprised the amount of people
- 0:01that you ask in America to point out
- 0:03where Ireland is on a map they point
- 0:04over towards like Mexico or someplace
- 0:06like they've just no idea where where it
- 0:10[Music]
- 0:15is fourleaf
- 0:18Clover fourleaf Clover is probably a
- 0:24const an American Construction I'm going
- 0:26to say it's probably not Irish is that
- 0:29am I right about that yeah so Shamrocks
- 0:31are three it's like a little clover with
- 0:34three I think it was used by St Patrick
- 0:36to talk about the Father the Holy Spirit
- 0:39and the what's the other one father the
- 0:41Holy Spirit and the son yeah I'm not uh
- 0:43religious anymore so yeah that's the
- 0:45difference Americans probably confused
- 0:47the two things the GAA oh Big Time Irish
- 0:52it's our national sport it's like both
- 0:55Gaelic football hurling and handball
- 0:59which you get bonus points if you know
- 1:00that handball is included so very much
- 1:02Irish and I played both gay football and
- 1:05hurling growing up you can't really make
- 1:07a career at playing G football because
- 1:09it's an amateur sport but it's a
- 1:11national sport so that like all of the
- 1:13players that you idolize growing up they
- 1:15play a match on a Sunday to 880,000
- 1:18people and then they go back to work on
- 1:20Monday which I think is pretty unique I
- 1:23think if you went to Ireland in the
- 1:24summer you would see lots of boys and
- 1:26girls going around in what we would call
- 1:28Tiny shorts but they're just gaic
- 1:30football shorts they are the
- 1:31standardized length of GAA football
- 1:35shorts gilga gilga Irish yeah yeah gu is
- 1:40is our national language it's spoken
- 1:44today in areas called gu tucks which are
- 1:46kind of portions pockets of the country
- 1:48that still that would be the language
- 1:51that you would use say going to school
- 1:53going to the shops but I think in the
- 1:55last couple of years there's been a
- 1:56Resurgence and you see like the kneecap
- 1:58boys doing it in using the language in
- 2:01their film and and things like that so
- 2:03it's having a Resurgence which is great
- 2:05because it was in Decline for for a
- 2:08second there I can speak a bit of my
- 2:10primary school that I went to was all
- 2:12through Irish and I did my junior CT
- 2:15which is not the SAT is the one below
- 2:18that all through Irish but then it's
- 2:21kind of like any language it kind of
- 2:22disappears a little bit when you don't
- 2:24use it but the bit of Irish that I have
- 2:27I would be very proud of you'd be
- 2:29surpris the amount of people that you
- 2:31ask in America who have not if you were
- 2:32to ask them to point out where Ireland
- 2:34is on a map they' point over towards
- 2:37like Mexico or someplace like theyve
- 2:39just no idea where where it is top of
- 2:44the
- 2:45morning and not Irish I feel like we're
- 2:48going to come to a lot of like American
- 2:50structions of Irish things and that's
- 2:54not something any Irish person would say
- 2:56things that I American people think is
- 2:59Irish are like leprechauns four leaf
- 3:02clovers top of the mornings Irish
- 3:05coffees I would say we don't drink as
- 3:07much so those would be the main ones I
- 3:10would say I'm sure more will come up a
- 3:13lock in big Irish yeah so a lock in is
- 3:17when the bar is closed but if you know
- 3:20the owner of the bar he'll kick out say
- 3:24a certain say 70% of the the bar and
- 3:28then 30% of you be left they'll close
- 3:30the curtains normally involves like sing
- 3:32songs afterwards if you can come across
- 3:35a lock in I would highly recommend
- 3:37they're like normally around like Irish
- 3:39weddings or funerals Irish people I
- 3:41think are pretty famous for their their
- 3:43funerals they're they're actually like
- 3:45just big celebrations unless there's
- 3:47like an innate tragedy involved but
- 3:48there's lots of drinking and lockin and
- 3:51yeah weddings and funerals I think Irish
- 3:53people do pretty well
- 3:56Halloween Irish apparently I only found
- 3:59out about this today they love Halloween
- 4:01in America don't they like they big into
- 4:04it we call it ehaa in
- 4:06Ireland St Patty's
- 4:09Day no oh again I think Americans do St
- 4:15Patrick's Day which is Irish not St
- 4:18Patty's Day I mean that's a good that's
- 4:20a good holiday in Ireland it's it's
- 4:22always fun it's an excuse for lots of
- 4:25like kind of like underage drinking like
- 4:27you kind of Escape for the day and then
- 4:29and try and return home and appear sober
- 4:32to your parents it's kind of a right
- 4:33right of passage in
- 4:35Ireland an Irish goodby oh big advocate
- 4:38of an Irish goodby I'm going to stick to
- 4:40my guns and say that it's Irish if
- 4:42you're at like a party with lots of
- 4:44people if you have naturally avoidant
- 4:47Tendencies goodbyes can be difficult so
- 4:49I would tend to if you're close enough
- 4:52with the people you can kind of just
- 4:53when your time has come to say good
- 4:55night you will just instead of being an
- 4:58evolved human being you will
- 5:00just head for the exit and tell
- 5:02everybody the next day that you didn't
- 5:04say
- 5:05goodbye happen the crack spelled c r a c
- 5:08k no not Irish not Irish I spelled c r a
- 5:12i c incredibly Irish but uh I think it
- 5:16would get confusing if you spelled it uh
- 5:18c a c k what's the crack we would
- 5:22associate we use the word crack for fun
- 5:25or like what's the story that it's a
- 5:27kind of versatile phrase yeah what's the
- 5:30crack it confuses Americans cuz they
- 5:32think it's probably something to do with
- 5:34something else I appreciate the attempt
- 5:35though it's it's it's IR it's kind of
- 5:37this is what I would say that spelling
- 5:40would mean the Bon the Bon Irish it's
- 5:44like a little um hand drum I would say
- 5:46is quite a stirring instrument yeah very
- 5:54Irish a session is a like music session
- 5:57so you'd have like fiddle players Bon
- 6:00players guitarists tin whistle players
- 6:03and they'd kind of sit in the corner of
- 6:05a pub and just start kind of it feels
- 6:07like they're improvising but they'll
- 6:09just play music for hours and hours
- 6:11normally associated with a
- 6:13lockin Andrew Scott that's don't get me
- 6:16started on this this is a thing that
- 6:20British media Outlets tend to do when
- 6:22Irish people have a moment of like
- 6:25success or a moment in the sun you'll
- 6:27like read some headline being like tror
- 6:29Andrew Scott or dror S cersa Ronin or
- 6:32Jesse Bley have been nominated for X
- 6:34award but it's only it's always around
- 6:37that kind of subject so Andrew Scott
- 6:41very much Irish Jesse Buckley very much
- 6:44Irish cerona Irish all of these um
- 6:47amazing Irish
- 6:49actors Daisy Edgar Jones honorary Irish
- 6:53person Daisy has Irish family so we
- 6:58we're doing the reverse I claim her as
- 7:00Irish one of the few non-irish actors to
- 7:03do the Irish accent as well as anybody
- 7:08I've ever seen so I'm going to do this
- 7:11depends on the day Irish not Irish
- 7:14yeah
- 7:15Gladiators GL uh Gladiators are not
- 7:18Irish very much Roman yeah people should
- 7:22be very excited for the film coming out
- 7:24I've seen it now the scale of it is kind
- 7:26of something that I haven't seen in
- 7:28years now that kind of old school Studio
- 7:32picture style of big film making but I
- 7:34think it ties to the kind of spirit of
- 7:36the first one where it's got these
- 7:38massive set pieces But ultimately it's a
- 7:40character drama that's got all of the
- 7:43bells and whistles that come with uh
- 7:45ridly Scott at his best so yeah I I'm
- 7:47super excited for people to see it now
- 7:49what's the key to becoming a gladiator
- 7:51there's lots of training that goes into
- 7:52it Gym training sord training you kind
- 7:56of got to get into a mentality that I
- 7:58would have associated with with kind of
- 7:59playing sports before like there's a
- 8:01kind of robustness required yeah I think
- 8:04all all of the casts when we heard that
- 8:05Denzel was going to be in it were kind
- 8:07of like blown away I feel very proud to
- 8:09say that like regardless of whatever
- 8:11happens I can say that I was in scenes
- 8:13opposite danzel Washington having seen
- 8:16Pedro's work for a couple of years now I
- 8:17think people should be really excited
- 8:19for what he does and the kind of
- 8:20Gravitas that he brings to his role and
- 8:22he plays it with such ease and nobility
- 8:25so that's the benefit of stepping into
- 8:27something that has the Legacy that
- 8:28gladiator does
- 8:30it instills you with a good healthy dose
- 8:32of of fear which is
- 8:35great the look of the Irish that feels
- 8:37like a left Boni statement doesn't it I
- 8:40think historically Irish people haven't
- 8:42been that lucky like you if you look at
- 8:44certain things but uh I would
- 8:48say yeah not
- 8:50Irish what's something that's inherently
- 8:56Irish supermax is very Irish supermax is
- 9:01like an Irish McDonald's the best super
- 9:05Maxes in gallway if anybody's ever
- 9:07heading out that way I would recommend a
- 9:10chicken burger from super max
- 9:13[Music]
