- 0:00I set out to make this voice training
- 0:01video the one I wish I had 5 years ago
- 0:03it will cover everything you need with
- 0:05each step we go over setting up the neck
- 0:07I'll also be time stamping the video so
- 0:08in the future if you want to review
- 0:10specific areas you can be sure to
- 0:12approach this lesson while not
- 0:13overexerting yourself take breaks and
- 0:15drink water as needed right let's begin
- 0:18introduction resonance sound is made up
- 0:20of vibrations those vibrations and voice
- 0:22are determined by two primary things
- 0:25your vocal cords as well as space
- 0:27fortunately the main reason why your
- 0:28voice may be deep is due to space and
- 0:30that is very much able to be modified
- 0:32the space we're looking to reduce is in
- 0:34your throat and your mouth as this is of
- 0:36course where your voice travels through
- 0:37and important note is no matter how deep
- 0:39your voice is you can achieve a passable
- 0:41female voice because this space can be
- 0:43reduced through practice so space is
- 0:45resonance and modifying your vocal cords
- 0:47is pitch we want to avoid changing our
- 0:49pitch because utilizing your vocal cords
- 0:51can become a crutch that hinders your
- 0:53training as well excess use of your
- 0:55vocal cords can cause strain and or
- 0:57damage and by excess use I mean trying
- 0:58to speak in a very high pitch for long
- 1:00periods of time instead we want to build
- 1:02our foundation utilizing resonance and
- 1:05then apply pitch to a much lesser degree
- 1:07when that Foundation is set introduction
- 1:09part two simplified Theory there are
- 1:11three main areas in this video we will
- 1:13focus on the larynx mouth space and
- 1:16specific muscles in the throat first we
- 1:18need to raise the larynx this requires
- 1:20using muscles that you fortunately use
- 1:22everyday so surely it's not impossible
- 1:24however what's difficult is learning how
- 1:26to use these muscles outside of their
- 1:27normal function which is to swallow this
- 1:29the second primary component is mouth
- 1:31space modified mainly by your tongue to
- 1:33reduce space in other words resonance
- 1:35the back of your tongue should be lifted
- 1:36up towards your mouth while not quite
- 1:38touching and the rest of your tongue
- 1:40should be relaxed and the final primary
- 1:41component is muscles in your throat now
- 1:43the larynx being lifted uses its own set
- 1:45of muscles however the ones I will show
- 1:47you outside of those are just as
- 1:49important section two focused exercises
- 1:52introduction each of these exercises are
- 1:54vital for setting you up for Success
- 1:56because of this during the exercises I
- 1:58will use my deeper voice to work beside
- 2:00you it's a common misconception that
- 2:01these individual pieces will make you
- 2:03sound more feminine when in fact they
- 2:04all need to come together but before you
- 2:06skip to the end to see the combination
- 2:08we need to work on and understand each
- 2:10individual piece so that we can do so
- 2:11successfully and again I set up all
- 2:13exercises to build up to the next making
- 2:15this as accessible as possible section
- 2:17two part one layings control exercise
- 2:21one explore let's start with an
- 2:22exploration exercise we can do this by
- 2:25swallowing importantly don't hold the
- 2:27swallow because that can do harm instead
- 2:29pay attention how the muscles in your
- 2:30throat move when swallowing like you
- 2:32would normally like I said earlier you
- 2:34use these muscles every day so that
- 2:36means we just need to learn how to use
- 2:37them outside of a swallow you may be
- 2:39able to do this immediately by clenching
- 2:41the lowest areas of your tongue let's
- 2:43give it a try together clench the lowest
- 2:45area of your tongue if you clench this
- 2:47area properly you will feel the base of
- 2:49your tongue raise as well as the larynx
- 2:51if you're not sure exactly where you
- 2:52should be clenching place the tip of
- 2:53your tongue to the bottom corner of your
- 2:55mouth behind your bottom teeth if done
- 2:57correctly the portion of your tongue in
- 2:58the back of your mouth will raise up and
- 3:00you will feel your throat raise up and
- 3:02back similar to how when you swallow
- 3:04layings control exercise two hissing
- 3:06this video will repeat some things from
- 3:08my last videos but it builds upon them
- 3:10and is by far more value for your time
- 3:12make a gentle hissing sound like a cat
- 3:14this will be achieved by passing air
- 3:16through your throat and your mouth as
- 3:18well to achieve the hissing sound you'll
- 3:19need to raise the back of your tongue
- 3:21similar to how we did in the last
- 3:22exercise when
- 3:24doing okay sorry about that when doing
- 3:27so try to raise the tone of that hissing
- 3:29sound you will immediately realize that
- 3:31to do so you need to shrink the space in
- 3:33your throat and your mouth let's do it
- 3:37together make sure you're clenching the
- 3:39very base of your tongue and if that
- 3:41feels difficult place the tip of your
- 3:42tongue to the back of your
- 3:46teeth if done correctly your tongue
- 3:48should look like this shrinking the
- 3:49space in the back of your mouth and near
- 3:51your throat laryn control exercise three
- 3:53humming the humming exercise again will
- 3:55work off our past exercises just follow
- 3:58me and we can get through this together
- 3:59just relax yourself for a moment and
- 4:01when you do begin to hum initially
- 4:03you'll feel the hum in your chest area
- 4:06what we want to do is raise that hum
- 4:07into the head region let's do that part
- 4:09together deep voice reveal let's go okay
- 4:12yo
- 4:17yo you'll feel the vibration from your
- 4:20chest up to your head which does feel
- 4:22funky then you bring it back down to
- 4:23your chest let's do it one more time but
- 4:25this time we're going to stop at the
- 4:26head and continuously try to raise the
- 4:28tone in fact try try to bring it up into
- 4:30the nose region or as close as you
- 4:32comfortably can then try once again to
- 4:34clench the lowest parts of your tongue
- 4:36just like earlier AKA try to raise your
- 4:40[Music]
- 4:44larynx that siren sound is me clenching
- 4:47the tongue fun fact we got to fun fact
- 4:49the previous three steps can work in
- 4:51building foundations not only for your
- 4:52larynx but your mouth space and throat
- 4:54muscles as well they make a great
- 4:56warm-up exercise and I recommend doing
- 4:58them daily if not for every vocal
- 5:00session larynx bonus exercise mewing meu
- 5:04is something you can do while out and
- 5:05about to strengthen necessary muscles
- 5:07and skills now usually the idea behind
- 5:09this is people trying to change their
- 5:10face shape but for us we're going to try
- 5:12and raise our laryn for that reason
- 5:14we're not going to have to apply a lot
- 5:15of pressure when doing this let me tell
- 5:17you how to do this now first keep your
- 5:19mouth closed second flatten your tongue
- 5:21against the roof of your mouth but again
- 5:23don't strain Yourself by overexerting
- 5:25Third Place the tip of your tongue right
- 5:26behind your upper teeth and fourth hold
- 5:28in place for however long you feel as
- 5:30comfortable the idea behind this is that
- 5:31you can build your muscles throughout
- 5:33your daily activities larynx muscles
- 5:34take the longest to train so this can
- 5:36seriously speed up your process applying
- 5:37gentle pressure with the rear of your
- 5:39tongue will benefit your larynx as
- 5:40opposed to the forward areas of your
- 5:42tongue section three mouth space the
- 5:44good news is the previous lessons you
- 5:46may have realized already gave us a
- 5:48solid foundation in that I mean the
- 5:50exercises we did to raise our larynx
- 5:52actually raised our tongue to roughly
- 5:54where it'll want to be as well but let's
- 5:55refine mouth space exercise one key an
- 5:58exploration exerc exercise to get a
- 6:00better understanding on tongue placement
- 6:02we will use the word key so we're going
- 6:04to say key but at the very end on the e
- 6:06sound clench your tongue here's what's
- 6:08happening when you hold the E position
- 6:09the rear portion of your tongue lifts up
- 6:11while the front stays relaxed which is
- 6:13exactly what we want here as well your
- 6:15tongue will be right in the neighborhood
- 6:16of where it should be which makes this a
- 6:18great way to gauge your tongue
- 6:19positioning so we're going to do it
- 6:21together but first we want to make sure
- 6:22that we don't clench the tongue to the
- 6:23point where it's pressing to the roof of
- 6:24our mouth we will want to actually
- 6:25clench quite lightly and second it's not
- 6:27going to sound any different when we
- 6:29speak but we do want to try and aim for
- 6:31that position of the tongue when we
- 6:32speak down the road all right yo key
- 6:34clunch yeah you can kind of hear it's
- 6:36like a little bit maybe not so different
- 6:39but that's fine that's fine once all
- 6:40these things come together down the road
- 6:42you'll begin to sound more like this for
- 6:43sure melt space exercise two whispering
- 6:46now the tongue isn't the only part we
- 6:48need to worry about the amount you open
- 6:49your mouth and jaw matters too I know
- 6:51this sounds like a lot of small details
- 6:53to keep track of but follow along and
- 6:55you'll see how well they can work
- 6:56together by the end for now let's just
- 6:58focus on this exercise first let's
- 7:00repeat the word key holding our position
- 7:02of the tongue once again this time we
- 7:04will whisper two words we will say key
- 7:07seriously our goal is to whisper this
- 7:09word while keeping the tongue in
- 7:10position try it with me okay yo yo yo
- 7:14key seriously key seriously key
- 7:17seriously if you're wondering why I say
- 7:18yoyo it's cuz it helps me get to that
- 7:20deeper range cuz yeah anyway carry on
- 7:23key clench the tongue key seriously key
- 7:26seriously key seriously train your
- 7:29tongue being being in position where it
- 7:31is when you clench the word at e during
- 7:33the key word if you're saying that and
- 7:35the back of your tongue is lifted up and
- 7:36not dropping down you're doing it
- 7:38correctly the goal of this exercise is
- 7:40to get used to speaking with your tongue
- 7:42lifted and your mouth and jaw not moving
- 7:44too much and the next session is throat
- 7:45muscles so pretty soon all of this is
- 7:47going to come together section three
- 7:50throat muscles your throat muscles are
- 7:52also going to need to be trained as well
- 7:54again this is going to leap frog off our
- 7:56previous lessons so you're already more
- 7:58prepared than you may think throat musle
- 7:59exercise one yawn then sigh you actually
- 8:02have control as to where your voice
- 8:04resonates we did this earlier with the
- 8:05hum but now we will hone in on this idea
- 8:08we're going to start with the yawn but
- 8:09when we exhale we're going to Exhale
- 8:11with a sigh when you're sighing make a
- 8:13quiet sound with your voice as quiet as
- 8:15possible and as high in the throat as
- 8:18possible not in the mouth nor the chest
- 8:21but focusing on the rear of your mouth
- 8:23and the nasal passage area here are some
- 8:25examples of resonance in the different
- 8:27areas first the chest which we will
- 8:29avoid
- 8:33why this sound so stupid Oh no I'm going
- 8:37to keep it in there second the forward
- 8:40area of the mouth which we will avoid
- 8:43oh finally the upper throat and nasal
- 8:46passage
- 8:47area you'll notice the sound is just a
- 8:50little bit brighter when sighing in that
- 8:52area you may also notice when trying to
- 8:54make the sound in the upper throat and
- 8:56nasal passage area certain areas of your
- 8:58throat gently Flex this is good this is
- 9:00exactly what we want again throat
- 9:02muscles play a huge role in how soft
- 9:04your voice is it's important however to
- 9:06utilize these muscles with the usage of
- 9:08sound and shifting resonance as opposed
- 9:11to consciously thinking of those areas
- 9:13because again we want to avoid strain
- 9:15and ultimately following the sound will
- 9:17make it much more natural to achieve
- 9:19success throat muscles exercise 2 sigh
- 9:22speak now let's move on to the next step
- 9:24sigh then speak then sigh our goal is to
- 9:27start with the Sigh ensuring the
- 9:29resonance is in the upper throat nasal
- 9:31area then slowly shift into speech then
- 9:34back to aigh for Simplicity we will use
- 9:36the phrase key seriously again here's
- 9:39what it will look like key
- 9:42seriously key seriously specifically the
- 9:45humming exercise going up and down and
- 9:47up and down is going to give you a lot
- 9:49of benefit for the throat muscles
- 9:50overall but now it's time to bring all
- 9:52of this together section four
- 9:54combination
- 9:56exercises everything we worked on up
- 9:58until now will come to play here but
- 10:00just as much they will always be there
- 10:01for revision if you ever need or get
- 10:03lost for now let's do our first
- 10:05combination exercise section three
- 10:08exercise one un the UN technique is
- 10:11going to seamlessly marry everything we
- 10:13just did into one exercise it has
- 10:15multiple steps and will require proper
- 10:17control of your breath so be sure to
- 10:19breathe through your nose and take a big
- 10:21inhale before you try it I'm going to
- 10:22walk you through it without me doing it
- 10:24myself and then after I'll do it with
- 10:26you first start with the hum and bring
- 10:28it to your head second hold any tension
- 10:30that you have and inhale through your
- 10:32nose be sure not to apply any more
- 10:34tension than your body has already
- 10:35applied third sigh in the back of your
- 10:37throat while clenching your tongue
- 10:39fourth
- 10:42say now I'm going to do it with you
- 10:44first start with the hum and bring it to
- 10:46your
- 10:50head second hold any tension and inhale
- 10:52through your
- 10:54nose third sigh in the back of your
- 10:56throat while clenching your tongue
- 11:00fourth say un while gently clenching the
- 11:04tongue here's what's happening when we
- 11:06do this when you bring the hum up into
- 11:08the head your throat muscles will work
- 11:10on lifting the resonance then when you
- 11:11sigh and clench your tongue you lock
- 11:13that in and third Ang is going to not
- 11:16only bring your tongue into position
- 11:17even more but also raise your larynx due
- 11:20to the tension required in your tongue
- 11:21to make the sound it may take some trial
- 11:23and error but try it a few times until
- 11:25you connect these pieces together but
- 11:27we're not done yet honestly we have a
- 11:29few more things to do first of all we're
- 11:31going to repeat this but we're going to
- 11:32add the phrase key seriously at the very
- 11:34end so let's do this one more time first
- 11:37start with the
- 11:39hum bring it into the head second hold
- 11:41any tension and inhale through your
- 11:43nose third sigh in the upper area of
- 11:46your throat and Nal region fourth
- 11:50say five key seriously so it'll look
- 11:54like
- 11:58this
- 12:03key seriously key seriously your goal
- 12:05with this exercise is to eventually say
- 12:07more than two words also this is going
- 12:09to take time as certain muscles need to
- 12:11develop on top of this your ability to
- 12:13control these muscles needs to develop
- 12:15as well that concludes the exercise
- 12:17portion of this video but we're not done
- 12:20because now we need to set you up for
- 12:21Success section five set yourself up for
- 12:24a success your practice sessions should
- 12:26start with warm-ups this will help ease
- 12:27your muscles into sessions but also help
- 12:29ref find the tools you need to have an
- 12:31effective session of practice your
- 12:33practice sessions should look like this
- 12:35first start with a warm-up exercise
- 12:37Second Use the UN technique with a key
- 12:39seriously phrase third try to refine the
- 12:41sound of this phrase fourth use this
- 12:43framework to work into saying longer
- 12:45sentences over time step five when
- 12:47you're confident about saying longer
- 12:48sentences try to do so while imitating
- 12:51another female's voice section five part
- 12:53two recording to truly maximize your
- 12:55skill you need to record your voice a
- 12:58few things about this before you throw
- 12:59me across the room one it's the only way
- 13:02to truly know if you're making progress
- 13:04two if you save your best sound samples
- 13:06you can refer to these at the beginning
- 13:07of sessions so you don't lose your
- 13:09progress in other words if you imitate
- 13:11your own voice your muscles will click
- 13:13into place as opposed to having to ref
- 13:15find that progress this will Skyrocket
- 13:17your progression and also reduce the
- 13:19time it takes to find your foundation
- 13:21and if you find that difficult that's
- 13:22natural honestly we all hate this part
- 13:24of the process but just think to
- 13:26yourself this isn't how you're going to
- 13:27sound at the end of it this is this is
- 13:29you learning and growing like you don't
- 13:31judge a pizza until it's cooked Out the
- 13:33Oven right you know when the person's
- 13:34spinning it and stuff you don't you
- 13:36don't tell the pizza guy that the pizza
- 13:38sucks do you if you do you should stop
- 13:41doing that section five part three
- 13:43follow the sound when I say follow the
- 13:45sound I don't mean necessarily record
- 13:47your voice although that is incredibly
- 13:49important what I mean is when you're
- 13:50trying to achieve your voice think about
- 13:52the sound don't think about the
- 13:54independent muscle ultimately your body
- 13:56knows how to achieve these sounds much
- 13:58better than you do consciously so you
- 14:00want to train muscle memory in these
- 14:02exercises that's where you think about
- 14:04the muscles themselves but when you're
- 14:06utilizing them and trying to speak you
- 14:08want to think about the sound
- 14:09specifically section five part four
- 14:11Foundation phrase when practicing having
- 14:13a foundation phrase can help too
- 14:15repeating the same phrase for every
- 14:17session will train muscle memory pretty
- 14:19quick another huge benefit is outside of
- 14:21practice you can use your foundation
- 14:23phrase to get right back on track if you
- 14:25ever feel lost with how you might sound
- 14:26it's been 5 years and I still use my
- 14:29Foundation phrases in fact I have one
- 14:31for each character I voice section five
- 14:33part five extra stuff things like your
- 14:36posture breath application and breath
- 14:39control as well as pitch can help but
- 14:41only if and when you have built the
- 14:43foundation of resonance also it's really
- 14:46important to point out that when you are
- 14:48trying to do things like clenching your
- 14:50tongue etc etc there is a point where
- 14:52you're doing it too much you don't want
- 14:54to overexert yourself but also if you do
- 14:56it too much you actually block Airways
- 14:58and make it impossible to speak part six
- 15:01important notes make sure you don't flex
- 15:03the muscles in your face this is a very
- 15:04common mistake a lot of people do make
- 15:06sure not to accidentally use pitch when
- 15:08training resonance specifically and
- 15:10don't try to use pitch in compensation
- 15:12of resonance like pitch won't really
- 15:14ever need to be adjusted to sound
- 15:16possibly female like once you're up
- 15:18there you can bring it down really deep
- 15:20and actually sound like a CIS woman
- 15:22trying to sound like a guy and then you
- 15:24can bring up even higher to sound even
- 15:26more bright in the voice but I mean my
- 15:29vocal cords are quite neutral when I'm
- 15:30speaking I'm just using the muscles for
- 15:32resonance and once again take breaks as
- 15:35needed seriously do not over exert
- 15:37yourself the last thing you want to do
- 15:39is damage yourself final thoughts no
- 15:41matter how difficult this may seem
- 15:44progress is very much possible with
- 15:46consistent effort it may take time but
- 15:48if you don't give up you will get there
- 15:51however I urge you not to wait for the
- 15:53Times where you feel like doing it or in
- 15:55other words feel motivated motivation is
- 15:57the emotional response to an exciting
- 16:00idea and discipline is the practice that
- 16:02will get you to that idea and discipline
- 16:05is best defined by setting out a path
- 16:07for yourself and doing it even when you
- 16:09don't feel like doing it being
- 16:10consistent working through something as
- 16:12difficult as this is a testament to your
- 16:14character and while you achieve your
- 16:16passable voice you can also build
- 16:18resilience in nature the ability to not
- 16:21give up the ability to fight for what
- 16:23you want in life thank you for watching
- 16:25if you want to support there's links to
- 16:26my patreon and YouTube memberships down
- 16:28below as well thanks to all the patreon
- 16:31and YouTube members that made this video
- 16:33possible thank you sincerely like And
- 16:35subscribe if you'd like to see more and
