1:16to to the boys at least one or
1:19two times

1:24and um on july 8th do you happen to have
1:28you end up having a conversation with
1:30chandler halderson is that true that is

1:34what was the nature of that conversation
1:36uh he stopped over about 8 30 i think in
1:39the morning
1:43he said hi i'm chandler i'm paraphrasing
1:48i said hi i said it's really weird about
1:50your parents
1:52he goes yeah and um
1:55i said it's uh
1:57you know
1:59i said i asked him something about uh
2:02the people that he went with or the
2:03people that they went with
2:05and were they missing too
2:08he said not necessarily or he didn't
2:11know
2:11he talked about
2:14sending a friend or a relative to
2:18his parents cottage to look for him
2:21and um
2:23he also asked if we had a security
2:25camera or surveillance
2:28equipment and i said no we didn't
2:32okay did you have any discussion at all
2:34about a neck brace uh i did ask him i
2:37said are you the one with that fell down
2:40and hasn't had a neck brace or was that
2:42your brother
2:43and he said no it was me and i said oh
2:47don't have to wear it i guess or
2:48something like that and was he wearing
2:50it on the 8th no
2:54and you said you had a discussion with
2:56him
2:57about the other couple did you mean the
3:00couple that
3:01supposedly had picked up barton crystal
3:03right i said well
3:05have you heard from them are they
3:07missing too
3:08and uh
3:10he said no
3:11or not not that he knows of or something
3:14along those lines
3:15and he
3:16said i
3:18said well if they're missing how are
3:21your parents gonna get back from the
3:22cabin or something along those lines
3:25and he said he didn't think they were
3:28with them or they were coming back or
3:30it was kind of vague
3:32do you remember telling detectives
3:34in connection with this investigation
3:37that chandler had told you that the
3:39other couple might have just continued
3:40on with their trip
3:42yes
3:44did that make any sense to you no
3:47i'd never seen
3:49barter chris to get in the car with
3:50anybody else
3:54and
3:56what was mr what was chandler
3:58helderson's demeanor like during this
4:00conversation with you i'm sorry i
4:02couldn't hear that oh i'm sorry what was
4:04mr halderson chandler's demeanor like

4:09was it was a little maybe not nervous
4:12because i can't really tell i'd only
4:13never spoke with him but
4:15maybe a little nervous or detached or
4:19not all the way tuned in he

4:25surveillance cameras in the neighborhood
4:27he said well he was gonna go talk with
4:29them
4:30and then he just left turned around and
4:33i said i think we said something like

5:07with other people

6:02of 2021
6:04at 4 5 9
6:063 oak springs circle in deforest
6:11and you have kind of an interesting
6:13history with the 4595
6:15oak springs circle address what is that
6:18history
6:19the 4595 oak springs addresser the
6:22halderson home used to be my mother's
6:24home
6:25she purchased the home in 1982 lived
6:29there
6:31until she passed away in 2009
6:34i lived there
6:36for two or three years and
6:39then i owned the vacant lot next door
6:41and built a new house
6:42right next door
6:44okay
6:46so fair to say you're very familiar with
6:48the neighborhood and with that home in
6:49particular
6:51correct
6:53did you know bart and krista hellerson
6:56i did how did you know them
6:59being neighbors
7:01just cordial
7:03in the yard how are you
7:08you know just chit chat
7:12were you familiar with chandler
7:14helderson
7:15i had met chandler maybe once or twice
7:20so you knew who he was but not
7:22any particular intimate knowledge
7:25correct

7:27did you though have a conversation with
7:30chandler halderson on july 8th of 2021
7:34yes uh the morning of july 8th about
7:39roughly 8 30 in the morning
7:42we uh somebody rang our doorbell um i
7:46answered the door and then called jay
7:48and chandler had was at the door and had
7:51just said hi i'm chandler from next door
7:55um and we just said
7:57you know we're sorry about your mom and
7:59dad you know
8:01and he said yeah
8:03weird um
8:06and i think the next thing he said is he
8:09was looking for help so he was looking
8:11to see if we had seen anything
8:14if we had surveillance cameras or ring
8:16doorbell
8:18i responded no
8:21that we did not
8:24have a ring doorbell
8:26and um
8:29and then i think um
8:32you know i think we kind of started
8:34asking maybe a little bit of questions
8:36let's ask um
8:38well i i know jay
8:40asked are you the one with the neck
8:43brace
8:44um because we had heard that
8:46um
8:47one of the kids had fallen and had a
8:50neck brace was in jail just mentioned is
8:52that you or your brother and he goes no
8:54it's me
8:56and jay said do you need to wear that
8:58and he responded no
9:02and then he explained a bit about his
9:05parents
9:06that somebody had picked him up
9:10and
9:12he wasn't quite sure who had picked him
9:14up
9:15and
9:17we i guess it was
9:20unusual because we started asking
9:22questions and said well wouldn't that
9:24other couple be missing
9:26what if anything did chandler say to
9:27that he said no
9:29no not necessarily
9:31he said
9:32that other couple might have been
9:35going on to their next trip or continued
9:38on with their trip
9:40and jay had said
9:42wouldn't
9:43wouldn't they need to bring your parents
9:45back
9:46and did chandler have any response to
9:48that
9:49he didn't have a response he just
9:53was maybe in
9:55an awkward silence
9:57and just said
9:59i don't understand
10:01my dad always drives
10:07how did that conversation end
10:11i think it had just become you know
10:13uncomfortable
10:15for
10:16him
10:17and after that it was more he just kind
10:20of
10:20turned around i'm sorry i did miss one
10:23part um early on when he was asking
10:26about
10:27if we had surveillance we said no but we
10:29do know that
10:31other people down the street
10:33have a high security system or we also
10:36know the people that have ring doorbells
10:38i'm sorry i missed that part so
10:41that's okay but how it ended was
10:44he just kind of turned around
10:46and
10:48walked off the front porch
10:50went down to the end of the driveway and
10:53looked left looked right and
10:56and just started walking down the street
10:59to the left
11:02miss murray i'm going to approach you
11:04and
11:05have you look at what has been marked as
11:07exhibit 54.
11:13could you please describe exhibit 54 for
11:15the jury
11:16uh
11:17exhibit 54 is a picture of a window that
11:20i took
11:22uh of whose house
11:24this is the halderson's home
11:27um the picture is
11:31the west side
11:33facing
11:34window into the garage there are two
11:37side windows into the garage this is the
11:39one that is the closest near the pond or
11:42the lake
11:44and what date did you take that picture
11:46i took it on july 7th at 5 20 p.m
11:49and does exhibit 54 to be appear to be a
11:53true and accurate print of that picture
11:54that you took yes i would move exhibit
11:5754 into evidence any objection no it is
12:00received
12:01and i would ask to publish
12:03you may
12:06the photo should show up on the computer
12:08mode
12:10now
12:11miss murray why in the world did you
12:12take a picture of your neighbor's window
12:16it was
12:18it was very unusual that the window was
12:21open
12:22it was july it was very hot
12:26um
12:27and those windows are never open
12:29you know
12:30that side of the house
12:32you know is we see three
12:34you know we see out that side of the
12:36house um from three different sets of
12:38windows from our kitchen
12:41from our dining room and from our sun
12:43room we can see that side and there's
12:45only four windows
12:47on that side of the house i've never
12:49seen a window open there
12:51okay and that struck you as unique and
12:53you wanted to document it in some way
12:55very unique
12:58is that window you've lived in this home
13:01is that window difficult to get to it is
13:03it's kind of an awkward window
13:07with it being
13:09at the end of the house
13:11you have to walk around the cars to get
13:14there i i've never been in the home
13:17since the halterson's owned it you have
13:20to kind of when
13:21we owned it you had to fall over a work
13:24bench area to get to the window so it
13:26really was an awkward
13:28window to open
13:30and the haldersons had lived in that
13:31home approximately five years correct
13:34and to your knowledge that's the only
13:35time you observe that window open was
13:37july 7th of 2021
13:39correct
13:43no further questions
13:47clear that cross-examination goes into
13:48the garage

13:51and you didn't have any
13:54recent
13:56reason to know what was the layout
13:58inside the garage at that time correct

14:45um how do you know chandler holderson
14:48uh i met him in middle school and we've
14:51been friends since then and we lived
14:53together two years ago okay
14:56um i believe that the court will
14:59probably direct
15:00everyone but the jury to remove their
15:01mass for a few seconds but do you see mr
15:03halderson in the courtroom today before
15:05answering i would ask anyone who's not
15:07in the jury box to lower their mask as i
15:09count to three one two three go ahead
15:12and replace your masks
15:15yes
15:16could you identify him by where he's
15:17seated and the color of his shirt
15:20uh he's
15:21seated on that table third from the
15:24right and he's wearing a black suit okay

15:30during the at some point in time did you
15:32learn

15:34or from a news story or wherever that mr
15:37halderson's parents were missing
15:39yes
15:40and did you reach out to mr halderson i
15:42did
15:48i'm going to show you what has been
15:49marked as exhibit 56.

16:00is um screenshots of messages between
16:02you and chandler yes and you call them
16:04chaz
16:06yes um i would move exhibit 56 into

16:25and i just thought it might be easiest

16:33first wrote to chandler hey chaz saw a
16:36post about your parents wanted to check
16:38up with you if you need anything or i
16:40can do anything to help happy to do it
16:43and then chaz responds and you sent that
16:46message on july 8th at 10 55 a.m yes
16:49okay and it appears that chandler
16:51responds i appreciate it i'm sorry but i
16:53don't have a name to this number so who
16:56may this be

16:59sorry i can't think of anything to do
17:01i've searched the house with the cops
17:03for clues but i couldn't find anything
17:04fingers crossed that they get the court
17:06order to open up their laptop

17:16they went up to the cabin right they
17:17haven't tried tracking their phones
17:20we need a court order for that every
17:22time i call it goes straight to
17:23voicemail so i think the phones are off
17:25or out of range
17:26okay hopefully they move on that when
17:28were they supposed to be back
17:30monday tuesday have you been able to
17:32reach them at all since they left
17:35they sent a text on sunday but i don't
17:37know when it they made it because of the
17:40reception
17:41i see i'm not really sure what to do

17:46or how to help or how to help
17:48all right and that was basically

17:58this case um but during your friendship
18:00with chandler did you guys ever go
18:02swimming
18:03yes where did you guys go swimming
18:05uh we went up to a beach in sac city

18:26and then we'd swim

18:49and does this appear this picture
18:51exhibit 55 appear to be a true and
18:52accurate depiction of that area as far
18:54as you know it as far as i know yes all
18:56right i'd move exhibit 55 into evidence
