  4. 0:05the Earth is part of a special family
  5. 0:08it's called the solar system and this
  6. 0:11family is made up of eight very
  7. 0:13different planets all of the planets
  8. 0:16starting from nearest the sun is Mercury
  9. 0:19Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus
  10. 0:25and Neptune what a fantastic family what
  11. 0:29brings all these planets together is our
  12. 0:31nearest star the sun each planet follows
  13. 0:35its own path around the sun called an
  14. 0:38orbit even though there are eight
  15. 0:40planets moving around at once they never
  16. 0:42bump into each other that is impressive
  17. 0:46some planets orbits around the Sun are
  18. 0:48faster than others the Earth only takes
  19. 0:50one year to orbit the Sun but Neptune
  20. 0:53takes around 165 Earth years that's it
  21. 0:57Neptune you take your time
  22. 1:01gravity is an invisible force that pulls
  23. 1:03everything on Earth
  24. 1:05downwards but gravity isn't just on
  25. 1:08Earth it's a force that pulls two
  26. 1:10objects towards each other gravity is
  27. 1:12what holds the Earth and other planets
  28. 1:15in their paths or orbits around the Sun
  29. 1:18and gravity is also what keeps the moon
  30. 1:20in its orbit around the Earth the bigger
  31. 1:23the mass of the object that's how much
  32. 1:26matter or stuff it's made from the
  33. 1:29stronger it's force of gravity because
  34. 1:32the Earth has such a big Mass its force
  35. 1:35of gravity is really really strong so it
  36. 1:38is Earth gravity that pulls everything
  37. 1:41on it down to the ground because humans
  38. 1:45have much less mass than the earth we
  39. 1:47don't really feel the force of gravity
  40. 1:49so we can walk around on Earth quite
  41. 1:52easily the moon also has a smaller mass
  42. 1:54than Earth so the force of gravity on
  43. 1:57the moon is less than the force of
  44. 1:59gravity on Earth so if you were ever on
  45. 2:01the moon you would feel much lighter if
  46. 2:04you tried to walk around on it and
  47. 2:06that's why astronauts move around like
  48. 2:09this learn more with cbbs on the BBC
  49. 2:12player app download it today isn't
  50. 2:15planet Earth amazing it's a beautiful
  51. 2:17planet over 70% of Earth is covered by
  52. 2:20water and it's our job to look after
  53. 2:23Earth and protect its precious resources
  54. 2:26three ways we can help to do this are to
  55. 2:28reduce re use and
  56. 2:31recycle we can try to reduce the amount
  57. 2:34of waste we produce by only buying
  58. 2:36things that we really need saying no to
  59. 2:38things we don't need and taking care of
  60. 2:41what we already have we can think of
  61. 2:44ways to reuse something like buying a
  62. 2:46secondhand coat instead of a brand new
  63. 2:49one we can also try repairing things and
  64. 2:52give them a second
  65. 2:54life recycling is when materials like
  66. 2:57metal card paper and some Plastics are
  67. 3:01used again to make new things instead of
  68. 3:04being thrown away there are special
  69. 3:06symbols that let you know how to recycle
  70. 3:08an object and which bin to put them in
  71. 3:11reduce reuse recycle trying to do these
  72. 3:15three things as much as we can helps to
  73. 3:18protect planet
  74. 3:20Earth a year is divided into four
  75. 3:23seasons spring summer autumn and winter
  76. 3:28each season is about three 3 months or
  77. 3:3012 weeks long you can notice the seasons
  78. 3:34changing by looking at the trees around
  79. 3:36you in Spring they can have colorful
  80. 3:38blossoms and new leaves in summer all
  81. 3:41the branches are covered in lush green
  82. 3:43leaves in Autumn the leaves change from
  83. 3:47green to oranges Reds and Browns and
  84. 3:49fall to the ground leaving the tree be
  85. 3:52of leaves for winter until the spring
  86. 3:54arrives again you might also notice that
  87. 3:57the weather changes when the seasons
  88. 3:59change spring and summer are usually
  89. 4:01warmer and autumn and winter are usually
  90. 4:03cooler but why do the seasons change
  91. 4:06it's to do with the way the Earth orbits
  92. 4:09or moves around the sun which takes a
  93. 4:11full year to complete planet earth has
  94. 4:14an invisible line through it called an
  95. 4:16axis when the earth orbits around the
  96. 4:19Sun it doesn't stand upright it tilts on
  97. 4:22its axis for part of the year one half
  98. 4:25of the earth which is called a
  99. 4:26hemisphere is closer to the Sun meaning
  100. 4:29the season there are warmer and for the
  101. 4:31other part of the year that hemisphere
  102. 4:33is further away so the seasons are
  103. 4:36cooler so when it's summer in the
  104. 4:37northern hemisphere on the other side of
  105. 4:39the planet in the southern hemisphere
  106. 4:41it's winter and that's what causes the
  107. 4:43changing
  108. 4:45seasons bees love flowers They're
  109. 4:48attracted by their bright colors and
  110. 4:50interesting smells the bees land on the
  111. 4:53flower and use a long tongue called a
  112. 4:55prosis to suck up a sweet liquid called
  113. 4:58nectar as the bees feed on the nectar
  114. 5:01their legs rub against the flow covering
  115. 5:04them in pollen the bees then carry that
  116. 5:07pollen to the next flower they're
  117. 5:08attracted to and the pollen stuck to
  118. 5:10their legs rubs off onto that
  119. 5:13flower this process is called
  120. 5:16pollination and is how flowers produce
  121. 5:18seeds which fall to the ground and make
  122. 5:21new flowers grow when the bees have
  123. 5:24collected the nectar they go back to
  124. 5:26their hive and do a waggle dance this
  125. 5:29tells the other bees that they found
  126. 5:31lots of tasty nectar and how far their
  127. 5:33friends need to go to find
  128. 5:36it energy is what makes things happen
  129. 5:39it's what gives objects the ability to
  130. 5:41move light up bounce or spin like this
  131. 5:46wind turbine it works by capturing
  132. 5:49energy from the wind to turn its big
  133. 5:52blades which are used to make
  134. 5:55electricity that electricity connects to
  135. 5:58our homes providing energy that we can
  136. 6:00use for things like light bulbs washing
  137. 6:03machines and the screen you're watching
  138. 6:05right now even you need energy to do all
  139. 6:08the things you do like running or moving
  140. 6:11around learning and even playing hide
  141. 6:15and seek and you get that energy from
  142. 6:18food loving that

  144. 6:23player app download it today Shadows can
  145. 6:26be really fun a shadow is the dark shape
  146. 6:30made when something blocks light from a
  147. 6:32light source like the Sun or a torch
  148. 6:35that's because light travels in straight
  149. 6:37lines so it can't go through an object
  150. 6:39or go around
  151. 6:42it where the light is blocked a shadow
  152. 6:45is made of the same shape the closer to
  153. 6:48the light source the bigger the
  154. 6:51shadow sometimes Shadows might look like
  155. 6:54one thing but really there's something
  156. 6:57else Shadows really are
  157. 7:00fun every sound you hear is made by
  158. 7:04vibrations whenever you hear something
  159. 7:06it's because vibrations are traveling
  160. 7:08through the air and being picked up by
  161. 7:11your ears which then pass that
  162. 7:13information to your brain your brain is
  163. 7:15really smart it can interpret what
  164. 7:18different vibrations sound like these
  165. 7:20vibrations are called sound waves and if
  166. 7:23you were able to see them they'd look a
  167. 7:25bit like this the louder a sound is the
  168. 7:29bigger the vibration it makes which is
  169. 7:31shown by a bigger sound wave the quieter
  170. 7:34a sound is the smaller the vibration it
  171. 7:37makes which is shown as a smaller
  172. 7:40Soundwave pitch tells us how high or how
  173. 7:45low a sound is the pitch of a sound
  174. 7:48depends on how fast or how slow the
  175. 7:52vibrations are the faster the vibrations
  176. 7:54the higher the pitch and the slower the
  177. 7:57vibrations the lower the pitch
  178. 8:00so sound is made by vibrations and it's
  179. 8:03why you're able to hear me say this
  180. 8:05sentence and this one and this one too
  181. 8:08and also this one sorry I'll stop now
  182. 8:12everything is made up of matter matter
  183. 8:15is another word for the stuff things are
  184. 8:17made from everything around us
  185. 8:19everything you can see and touch is made
  186. 8:21of matter anything that takes up space
  187. 8:24is called matter air water rocks and
  188. 8:28even people are examples of matter and
  189. 8:31how much matter something is made up of
  190. 8:33affects how heavy or light it will be
  191. 8:36scientists use the term Mass to measure
  192. 8:39exactly how heavy or light an object is
  193. 8:43you might think bigger objects are
  194. 8:45heavier and have a bigger mass than
  195. 8:47smaller ones because they're bigger in
  196. 8:49size like this hippo but that's not
  197. 8:51always true sometimes bigger objects can
  198. 8:54have less mass than smaller objects like
  199. 8:57this balloon and this banana for
  200. 8:58instance the balloon is full of air so
  201. 9:01it actually has less mass than the
  202. 9:03banana because the banana is solid and
  203. 9:07that is why Mass
  204. 9:09matters learning can be so much fun and
  205. 9:12you can learn lots more with our CBB
  206. 9:14shows like number blocks the go Jets and
