- 0:44Friday night. And as they were leaving,
- 0:46they said to us, "Your guys joy is
- 0:49contagious."
- 0:51How cool is that? Our joy was
- 0:54contagious. And I just thought that this

- 10:15with us. We give thanks that you provide
- 10:19ways to meet with us and which by which
- 10:22we might meet with you and talk with
- 10:25you.
- 10:27We give thanks that you are a God who is
- 10:30the same yesterday, today, and forever.
- 10:34That you have this eternal desire for to
- 10:38be with us and for us to be with you as
- 10:41you designed creation.
- 10:44And we acknowledge that while you desire
- 10:47to meet with us,
- 10:49sometimes their desire to be with you
- 10:53falls away.
- 10:55preferring to go our own way
- 10:59to be in control of our own destiny.
- 11:04We acknowledge that this leads us down
- 11:06paths that produce problems and
- 11:08difficulties in life both for us and for
- 11:11others.
- 11:14We say and do things we shouldn't.
- 11:17We fail to do the things we should.
- 11:21We do not listen to your word or the
- 11:24prompings of the Holy Spirit.
- 11:29Lord, we are sorry.
- 11:33We ask your forgiveness for all our
- 11:36failings
- 11:40and we give thanks that through Jesus
- 11:44you have provided for our forgiveness.
- 11:49and even in your holiness we are able to
- 11:52come to you.
- 11:57We pray today for the places around the
- 12:00world in special need at this time,
- 12:04particularly this week, remembering the
- 12:06people of Venezuela.
- 12:09With so much devastation from
- 12:11earthquakes, Lord,
- 12:14it is hard to know what to pray for
- 12:18except to pray for your presence
- 12:21and for the presence of your spirit.
- 12:24guiding those in leadership,
- 12:27bringing hope and comfort to those in
- 12:30need,
- 12:32and moving your people to provide for
- 12:34those in need.
- 12:37We pray that no one would feel alone, no
- 12:40one would feel without comfort, and
- 12:43without hope.
- 12:48We remember other places in the world in
- 12:50need.
- 12:52We pray for those suffering the extreme
- 12:54heat in Europe.
- 12:56For the ongoing fighting in the Middle
- 12:58East,
- 13:00for those suffering through the many,
- 13:02many years of war now in Ukraine.
- 13:10We pray also for those in need in our
- 13:12own country.
- 13:15Again, remembering this week places that
- 13:17have been impacted by extreme weather
- 13:19events.
- 13:21particularly the wind and the rain this
- 13:22week. We pray that immediate relief
- 13:25might be available to those who need it.
- 13:29And we pray for wisdom for those
- 13:31planning for the future to limit the
- 13:34impact of such events should they occur
- 13:37again.
- 13:41We pray for your church
- 13:43that it might truly be your body here on
- 13:47earth,
- 13:48revealing you to the world,
- 13:51providing hope and comfort and a word of
- 13:55salvation to all who turn to you.
- 14:01We pray for all those in leadership in
- 14:03the church seeking to draw others into
- 14:07your kingdom.
- 14:10And we especially play pray for those
- 14:12involved in church plants
- 14:15including particularly this week Alexis
- 14:18Nimuna and the Bethl Glory church plant
- 14:23that you might provide much
- 14:24encouragement for their work
- 14:27and bring growth to your kingdom.
- 14:35We also have particular prayers on each
- 14:38of our own hearts known to us. And in a
- 14:42moment of silence, we just bring these
- 14:44prayers to you.
- 15:00Lord, thank you for meeting with us this
- 15:03morning,
- 15:05hearing our prayers and providing
- 15:08answers for us in the name of your son,
- 15:11our savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

- 17:35and as well we put a envelopes

- 18:17the gold globe off of Brazil. Oh my
- 18:19gosh. Who put this phrase here? So
- 18:25So come and sign up. Really want you
- 18:28guys be part of the international food
- 18:31night. So we going to start sell the
- 18:34tickets next Sunday. Okay. So next
- 18:36Sunday the tickets going to be we're
- 18:39going to start sale in the foyer. So you
- 18:41can talk with me O Lee. Okay. So now
- 18:44gonna call Joey for alpha.
- 18:54>> Thank you. Yeah. Who put that phrase
- 18:56together for you? It's like they wanted
- 18:57to sabotage you or something. That was
- 18:59good. You did a great job. They did a
- 19:01great job. Um so as you will notice on
- 19:03your chairs, not every single chair, but
- 19:05every, you know, third or second chair,
- 19:06we have another round of invitations to
- 19:08Alpha. Last term's Alpha went
- 19:11wonderfully. There are so many good
- 19:13stories that were made and that were
- 19:15told and Brett alluded to it a couple
- 19:17times in his sermon the past couple
- 19:18weeks, but they're not my stories to
- 19:19tell. All I can say is we had some
- 19:21guests show up. They encountered Jesus
- 19:23and it was a wonderful time. And that's
- 19:25what Alpha is about. It's a chance for
- 19:26people to come together for a series of
- 19:28weeks who aren't Christian or you might
- 19:31be or you might not be sure of what the
- 19:33Christian faith is really all about and
- 19:34actually learn more about who is Jesus,
- 19:36what's the church, what's forgiveness of
- 19:38sins, why did Jesus have to die on a
- 19:40cross, what's the resurrection all
- 19:41about, walking you through a nine-week
- 19:44course. And so we're starting that
- 19:46again. And I know there are people who
- 19:48said they couldn't make term two, but
- 19:49they would love to come to term three.
- 19:51Here's term three alpha. I'm really
- 19:53excited and looking forward to this. If
- 19:54you turn the invitation around, all the
- 19:56details are back there with um date
- 19:59which is July 22nd. So that is in
- 20:02basically three weeks from this Sunday
- 20:04or the Wednesday. It's going to be a
- 20:06midweek offering at 6:30 on Wednesdays
- 20:09as opposed to last term which was
- 20:11Sundays at 6 p.m. because you get
- 20:13different people at different times of
- 20:14the week, right? And so we want to make
- 20:16the opportunity uh widely available for
- 20:18others. And so you're thinking, "Yeah,
- 20:20there was somebody I invited and they
- 20:22just couldn't make it this time around."
- 20:23Well, this is your chance to send
- 20:24another invitation through to say,
- 20:26"Would you like to learn more about
- 20:27Jesus, the church, and what faith is all
- 20:30about?" And you might be thinking,
- 20:31"Well, Joe, I have nobody I can invite.
- 20:33I have no clue who I can invite." This
- 20:35is what I would encourage you to do.
- 20:37Grab the invitation, take it home, and
- 20:41pray. God, please reveal to me somebody
- 20:44in my life who you want me to invite to
- 20:47Alpha because it could change their
- 20:49life. genuinely could change their life
- 20:52forever, eternity, forever for somebody.
- 20:54This is a beautiful gift to give, which
- 20:56is an invitation to know Jesus over a
- 20:59long course. And that is today's call to
- 21:03action. Next week, I'm going to have
- 21:04clipboards go around just for the prayer
- 21:07team. I was so encouraged this past term
- 21:09with all those who prayed whether at
- 21:10home or in person in the offices. Uh
- 21:13everything we do like the course is is a
- 21:15course like knowledge and information
- 21:16only get you so far. Transformation
- 21:19happens through the Holy Spirit. And so
- 21:20we always need to pray and always ask
- 21:22God to do the things that we can't do,
- 21:24which is stir the hearts of those in the
- 21:26world to draw near to him and to receive
- 21:29him. So what can you do? Grab this,
- 21:31pray, Lord, who can I invite to Alpha?
- 21:33And then next week, we'll do some uh
- 21:35invitations around how you can be
- 21:37involved. All right. Well, I believe we
- 21:40have our kids ministry that's going to
- 21:42be going upstairs. And so if your child
- 21:44is under the a is two to five years old
- 21:47under five there's a program upstairs
- 21:48for them. If they're in primary age
- 21:51program upstairs for them and if your
- 21:52child's a young one under two uh with
- 21:55parent supervision you can go in the
- 21:57cray if you would like the sermon is in
- 21:58there uh in the message and everything
- 22:00is in there through the speakers. Let's
- 22:02pray for our kids as we dismiss them.
- 22:05Lord Jesus Christ, you asked for the
- 22:07children to come to you. And Lord, we we
- 22:10need to come to you like children, full
- 22:12of trust, full of faith, full of relying
- 22:14on you and leaning on you, Lord. And so
- 22:17we just ask that you would um stir in
- 22:19the hearts of our children a dependence
- 22:21on you, not only now, but as they grow
- 22:23up and as they grow into adulthood,
- 22:25Lord, do what you can only do, which is
- 22:27draw those and people to yourself. and
- 22:30we ask that you bless their time
- 22:31upstairs and bless our time for the rest
- 22:33of the service. In Jesus name we pray.
- 22:35Amen.
- 22:45Our
- 22:59scripture reading for this morning is
- 23:02from Hebrews chapter 9 vers 11 to 15.
- 23:09But when Christ came as high priest of
- 23:14the good things that are now already
- 23:16here, he went through the greater and
- 23:20more perfect tabernacle
- 23:22that is not made with human hands. That
- 23:26is to say,
- 23:29is not part of this creation.
- 23:32He did not enter by means of the blood
- 23:34of goats and calves, but entered the
- 23:37most holy place once for all by his own
- 23:41blood, thus obtaining eternal
- 23:44redemption.
- 23:46The blood of goats and bulls, and the
- 23:49ashes of a hypher sprinkled on those who
- 23:54are ceremonially unclean, sanctify them,
- 23:59so that they are outwardly clean. How
- 24:03much more then will the blood of Christ
- 24:07who through the eternal spirit offer
- 24:10himself unblenmished
- 24:12to God cleanse our consciences from acts
- 24:17that lead to death so that we may serve
- 24:21the living God. For this reason, Christ
- 24:25is the mediator of a new covenant, that
- 24:29those who are called
- 24:32may receive the promised eternal
- 24:34inheritance, now that he has died as a
- 24:38ransom to set them free from the sins
- 24:42committed under the first covenant.
- 24:57So, we are in the third week of a
- 25:00four-week series looking at priests or
- 25:03the space between. And uh this has been
- 25:07a rather difficult technical sermon
- 25:10series to walk through because we're
- 25:11we're talking about a concept or a
- 25:13vocation if you will priest which is
- 25:17very foreign to our culture and context.
- 25:19Yet as you read the Old Testament, this
- 25:22idea of priesthood or priests making
- 25:24sacrifices in this tabernacle. What's a
- 25:26tabernacle? And then temple. Well, I
- 25:28visited temples in Europe and in other
- 25:30places in, you know, the Middle East,
- 25:31but I just I don't know what a temple
- 25:33actually does. There's a cultural bridge
- 25:36that needs to take place for us that a
- 25:39lot of western modernity, western
- 25:41culture is just really detached from
- 25:44this priesthood understanding. Yet, it's
- 25:46everywhere in scripture. And so, we need
- 25:49to do a little bit of extra work. And
- 25:52Brett did a wonderful job explaining how
- 25:54Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden,
- 25:56we're talking Genesis chapter 2 and
- 25:58Genesis chapter 3, these two first
- 26:02representatives of humanity, of humans,
- 26:04us, they had a job. They had a vocation
- 26:07to be priests.
- 26:10Okay? And then he fast forwarded quite a
- 26:12bit with an Israel story. And as they
- 26:14came out of Egyptian slavery in Egypt,
- 26:17they went towards Mount Si. God gave
- 26:19them the law, but he also dwelt with
- 26:21them in this thing called the
- 26:23tabernacle, which is basically a mobile
- 26:25tent, if you will, and he set up a
- 26:27priesthood through the family of Aaron
- 26:30to mediate or to basically represent the
- 26:33people before God. Okay, we're getting a
- 26:35bit of a clear picture as to what a
- 26:37priest actually is. And then today,
- 26:41we're talking about Jesus as the priest.
- 26:44But I want to back up a little bit. I
- 26:46want to I want to look at two metaphors.
- 26:48I think might be really helpful to
- 26:50understand what a priest is. The first
- 26:52is really easy for us to understand
- 26:54because we drive on them all the time. A
- 26:56bridge. I know whenever I go on uh
- 26:59online and the algorithm just gives me
- 27:02news articles, I think one of the top
- 27:03ones is the Oakuckland Bridge is
- 27:05failing. What are we going to do? That's
- 27:07always at the top. But what does a
- 27:09bridge do? A bridge is this place in the
- 27:12middle between two realms, two land
- 27:16masses for you to get across. You
- 27:18couldn't necessarily get across safely
- 27:20or easily or quickly without the bridge.
- 27:23The bridge is there for a reason. And so
- 27:25when it comes to this priest that a
- 27:27priest is a bridge in this biblical
- 27:30sense, a priest is this mediating gap
- 27:35between heaven and earth.
- 27:38this mediating gap between heaven and
- 27:41earth. They stand in the place of two
- 27:44realms. I like this metaphor a little
- 27:47bit, but I don't like it when it comes
- 27:49to Jesus because there's no struggle.
- 27:54There's no difficulty I find in in
- 27:56bridges in the modern world. We can
- 27:58pretty well build bridges. We have a
- 28:00template how to do it. Yeah, it might
- 28:01take time and billions of dollars, but
- 28:03it's not like an impossible thing. Like
- 28:06you get enough engineers in the room, we
- 28:09can reliably reliably build bridges.
- 28:11Bridges have been built for thousands of
- 28:13years. Actually, incredibly
- 28:14sophisticated bridges that still stand
- 28:16to this day have been built thousands of
- 28:18years ago. We know what we're doing. We
- 28:20have the technical knowhow to do this.
- 28:23So in a sense, oh, we we can be the
- 28:25bridges, right? We can do that. We're
- 28:27self-sufficient. We can be a bridge. No.
- 28:30So here's the second metaphor I want to
- 28:31use to understand what is a priest. A
- 28:34priest is like a strong man holding up
- 28:36two pillars.
- 28:39Has anyone watched any strong man
- 28:41competitions online or on TV or YouTube?
- 28:44It's all over the place uh growing up in
- 28:46Canada. And I always found this Hercules
- 28:48event, I think is what they call it,
- 28:49with these two columns, incredibly uh
- 28:52captivating because they basically just
- 28:54get the guy, the strongest guy, to hold
- 28:56these two pillars up as long as he
- 28:59possibly can before he lets go because
- 29:01of the weight and the force of them
- 29:03pulling away from him. And some people
- 29:04dislocate their shoulders because it's
- 29:06so they're so heavy and so strong. And I
- 29:09think this person up here, yes, he had
- 29:11the world record a few years ago. was
- 29:13like a minute and 55 seconds or 50
- 29:15seconds, which doesn't seem that long,
- 29:17but when these two things are just
- 29:18pulling at you and he's like just always
- 29:20tensed up, it's a struggle. And I like
- 29:23this as a metaphor for a priest because
- 29:25think of the two realms and the two land
- 29:27masses for a second. Okay? If a priest
- 29:29is somebody who bridges the gap between
- 29:31heaven and earth, it's almost like these
- 29:34two things that are pulling apart and
- 29:37the priest is in the middle bringing
- 29:39them together. But it's a struggle. This
- 29:42person's suffering. It's not easy. You
- 29:45can't do it. The strongest man in the
- 29:47world can't do it for longer than a
- 29:49minute and 55 seconds. But this morning,
- 29:51I want to use this image of of some of a
- 29:54priest pulling two pillars together to
- 29:57explain what Jesus actually does as our
- 30:02high priest.
- 30:04He's the only one
- 30:07only one in human history as the God man
- 30:12who can not only sustain the power and
- 30:15the weight of these two pillars of
- 30:17heaven and earth together. He's not just
- 30:19sustaining it. He pulls them in. He does
- 30:23not only the impossible of enduring for
- 30:25eternity. He does the impossible that no
- 30:28one thought was even possible. pulling
- 30:30them together in himself for the sake of
- 30:35the world. That's what a priest does. A
- 30:39priest pulls together the impossible
- 30:43and mediates between heaven and earth
- 30:45for the world's sake so that we can
- 30:48actually come to know God the Father as
- 30:52children of God because of what Jesus
- 30:54has done on the cross. If you want to
- 30:57just get your imagination going, imagine
- 30:58that's a cross up there and that's Jesus
- 31:01dying and the struggle. That's what's
- 31:03happening on the cross is pulling
- 31:06together two realms, two
- 31:10realities into himself for the sake of
- 31:14the world. This is why Jesus has changed
- 31:16history. This is why we measure time
- 31:19based on Jesus. This is why everything
- 31:22in the world has changed on that cross
- 31:25moment. the world materiality
- 31:28existence itself changed in Christ on
- 31:32the cross. It's not just a metaphor.
- 31:35It's not just an illustration. Not just
- 31:36a good thought. It's a radical shift in
- 31:39the human trajectory of the world. Why?
- 31:43Because you need a priest. I need a
- 31:45priest. I can't be that priest. You
- 31:48can't be that priest. Only one person
- 31:51can be that priest. And it was Jesus
- 31:532,000 years ago. Are you ready to work
- 31:56through some scripture? Trying to build
- 31:57the case. Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna give
- 32:00you a heads up. This is also a technical
- 32:03sermon. This doesn't mean you get to
- 32:05lean back and be like, "All right, teach
- 32:07me, Joey." All right, this might this is
- 32:09a time for you to lean forward and look
- 32:11at your your Bible. So, I think at the
- 32:13back by the window right there in the
- 32:14cray there's about 15 20 Bibles. If you
- 32:17don't want to look at your phone because
- 32:18you're going to be too distracted as we
- 32:20go through passages and we are going to
- 32:22go through a lot. Warning, a lot of
- 32:25passages. I'll give you about five
- 32:26minutes to prepare for this, but a lot
- 32:28of passages.
- 32:30Grab a Bible. Physical Bible be super
- 32:32helpful. We got 15 back there. You can
- 32:34just walk back at any point while I'm
- 32:35talking and grab one. We're going to be
- 32:37stuck in the book of Hebrews. My
- 32:40favorite book. It wasn't my favorite
- 32:43book for a long time. Oh, wow. People
- 32:45are actually getting up and getting
- 32:46Bibles. That's you're warming my hearts.
- 32:48That's wonderful. All right. I did warn
- 32:51you. All right. So, the book of Hebrews
- 32:54is a phenomenal book. It is, in my
- 32:57opinion, Romans and Hebrews in the New
- 33:00Testament are like the two pinnacle New
- 33:02Testament books. Romans is more
- 33:05understandable for us because of just
- 33:07how how our church history has kind of
- 33:09played out. Hebrews is a lot more
- 33:11foreign. Why? Because central to the
- 33:14argument of the book of Hebrews that the
- 33:16author is making is entirely circulated
- 33:19around what is a priest? What's the Old
- 33:22Testament have to do with priests and
- 33:23tabernacles and temples and what does
- 33:26Jesus have to do with that? And if you
- 33:28can if you can learn a little bit about
- 33:31the Old Testament priesthood and then
- 33:33you read Hebrews, oh my goodness. But if
- 33:36you know nothing and you read Hebrews,
- 33:37you're like, "This is a foreign
- 33:38language." I'm hoping today that the
- 33:41language will become less foreign to
- 33:43you. All right. So, what's going on
- 33:46here?
- 33:51We love to create models,
- 33:54replicas. Who's ever made like a really
- 33:56large scale or like modest replica of
- 33:59something?
- 34:00Yeah. Haron, what did you make? Haron,
- 34:07that's pretty good. Anyone else? What
- 34:09was another one? Yeah, Richard.
- 34:15Actual flying air like it actually flew
- 34:17like but yay big kind of thing or this
- 34:20big. That's pretty good. That's pretty
- 34:21good. So, we love to make models and
- 34:23replicas of things, but we know we know
- 34:26that they're not actually the real
- 34:27thing, right? Like the plane can't
- 34:29really take passengers and Harland's a
- 34:31real person and the replica of Harland
- 34:34is not Harland, but it's a replica of
- 34:35him. And so in the Old Testament when it
- 34:39comes to the priesthood for Israel and
- 34:42for the tabernacle,
- 34:44it was only ever a replica.
- 34:48It was only ever a shadow of the real
- 34:51thing. When you went for the history of
- 34:54the Old Testament, when they were living
- 34:55that, they didn't think so. They thought
- 34:57that Aaron's priesthood and the function
- 34:59of priest in the temple, in the
- 35:01tabernacle, making these sacrifices and
- 35:03offerings, that was the real deal. But
- 35:06then Jesus comes along and he changes
- 35:08everything and he makes us realize, "Oh
- 35:11my goodness, that that's the model
- 35:13airplane.
- 35:15Where's the real airplane? Oh, that's
- 35:16the model train. Where's the real train?
- 35:20Christ is the real and the Old Testament
- 35:24uh priesthood and temple and tabernacle
- 35:27are the replicas."
- 35:29So Jesus is a lot more significant.
- 35:32So, the purpose of Adam and Eve way
- 35:34back, Genesis chapter 2, like Brett
- 35:36mentioned two weeks ago, was to be a
- 35:39priest
- 35:41to the world. Adam and Eve both. Because
- 35:44what's what's not clear in the text, but
- 35:46you can kind of intuit it is that
- 35:48there's wilderness everywhere else in
- 35:50the world, but one location, this Garden
- 35:53of Eden location. And this garden of
- 35:55Eden is like the hot spot of God's
- 35:57presence, where humanity is in perfect
- 35:59relationship with God, walking and
- 36:01talking and in fellowship with him. And
- 36:04that it's beautiful. It's it's where
- 36:06humans are meant to be, where they're
- 36:08meant to belong is in the presence of
- 36:11God. We were created for presence with
- 36:13God. And so it's assumed in the text
- 36:15because it's a very mysterious story.
- 36:17It's assumed in the text that when they
- 36:19were to go and spread the blessings of
- 36:22Eden, they were to spread it everywhere
- 36:24else. Function as priests to spread this
- 36:28heavenly presence everywhere else in the
- 36:31world in the wilderness. That was their
- 36:33job. That was that's the human project.
- 36:36And then what we learn in Genesis
- 36:37chapter 3 is they chose themselves to be
- 36:40God instead of God himself. and they
- 36:43rejected God and chose to not just be
- 36:45priests within God's border, but to be
- 36:48God himself. And as a result, God God
- 36:50exiled them out of the Garden of Eden,
- 36:52out of his presence. And it sent this
- 36:56long journey of human history of solving
- 36:59a problem, God solving a problem. How do
- 37:02I get humanity back into the garden? How
- 37:05do I get humanity back into my presence?
- 37:09If you want to extend it a bit further,
- 37:11how Does heaven and earth come together
- 37:15once again? Because they've forfeited
- 37:17their priesthood.
- 37:20They have done away with it. Then we
- 37:22move forward a long time throughout the
- 37:24scriptures. We see that God chose these
- 37:27people to be his people through this
- 37:28family of Abraham. Not just for
- 37:31themselves, but to be a blessing to the
- 37:34entire world and to the all the
- 37:36ethnicity groups and nations. Every
- 37:38single family under the earth will be
- 37:41blessed through this one people group,
- 37:43the Israelites. It was never just for
- 37:44them. It was for everybody, but started
- 37:46with somebody. So, it starts with them.
- 37:49God delivers them out of Egyptian
- 37:51slavery in Egypt and moves them towards
- 37:54this promised land. But before they get
- 37:57there, he makes a relational agreement
- 38:01or covenant with them and says, "I'm
- 38:03going to be your God no matter what, and
- 38:05I want you to be my people no matter
- 38:07what, and I'm going to dwell with you.
- 38:10I'm going to bring the Garden of Eden
- 38:12back into your presence, in this
- 38:15tabernacle, in this tent where everybody
- 38:17else is camped out around it, and God is
- 38:19in this tent." But there was a problem.
- 38:22Nobody could enter into the tent. Nobody
- 38:24could get into the garden. No one could
- 38:26do it. If they did, they would die
- 38:28because of God's holiness and God's
- 38:30greatness and then their sin. So there
- 38:32need there needed to be some type of way
- 38:34made for them to get into the garden,
- 38:36get back into the presence of God. So
- 38:38the priesthood was established through
- 38:41Aaron, which is Moses's brother.
- 38:44And even then, even though there's a
- 38:46bunch of sacrifices and offerings and
- 38:48sin offerings and all these different
- 38:49rules and regulations that yes, one
- 38:53person The high priest could get into
- 38:56the garden, could get into the presence
- 38:59of God, but only once a year for one
- 39:03moment to make a sin offering for the
- 39:06people. One time, once a year, one
- 39:09person.
- 39:10That seems a bit limiting, doesn't it?
- 39:13That seems like it's not the full thing.
- 39:15It feels like a replica. It's like,
- 39:17well, if humans, all of us are created
- 39:20for God's presence. were created to know
- 39:22God, to be in that garden with him. Then
- 39:24why one person at one time a year for
- 39:28one job? Shouldn't we be there all the
- 39:31time, forever, and always?
- 39:35Yes.
- 39:36And then we move forward throughout the
- 39:39scriptures all the way to Christ. We see
- 39:41that John chapter 1 verse 14, I think,
- 39:45or 17 says that Christ dwelt with us.
- 39:50What does that word actually dwell? If
- 39:52you if you uh translate it literally, it
- 39:55means Christ tabernacled with us.
- 40:00Christ, the God of the universe, the
- 40:03logos is what how John describes it.
- 40:05This this the being who created
- 40:07everything
- 40:09dwells with us. Oh, so the tent, the
- 40:14garden is now with the people and
- 40:17roaming around and a whole bunch of
- 40:20wonderful God stuff and healing the
- 40:22people, healing the land, forgiving
- 40:25sins, casting out demons, doing all
- 40:27these things you expect to happen when
- 40:29God shows up and God comes near and when
- 40:31heaven shows up and heaven comes near.
- 40:34And the book of Hebrews explains how
- 40:37this cross moment, this Jesus dying on
- 40:39the cross is so massively important
- 40:42because it basically parallels this Old
- 40:45Testament replica of the tabernacle and
- 40:48the priestly system as always ever
- 40:52pointing to Jesus. It was always meant
- 40:56for that. This Jesus isn't God's plan B.
- 41:00Jesus is God's plan A. The temple, the
- 41:04tabernacle, the priesthood was always
- 41:07always set up to lead the way to Jesus
- 41:12and for that cross moment and for him to
- 41:15be our high priest. So, I gave you some
- 41:19time. We're going to look at Hebrews
- 41:21chapter 8. So, please open up your
- 41:23Bibles to Hebrews chapter 8. And I've
- 41:27got one passage, uh, one big point, and
- 41:29this is it. We have access to the
- 41:32heavenly tabernacle, to the real thing,
- 41:36to the garden of Eden, to the presence
- 41:40of God, the real thing through Christ.
- 41:44This is what Hebrews is talking about.
- 41:47So, let's open up. I'll read if you
- 41:49start at uh chapter 8 and I'll start at
- 41:51chapter four and then we'll meet
- 41:53together. Okay? So, chapter 4 starts out
- 41:55like this. This is a thesis statement of
- 41:57Hebrews. I love it so much. Therefore,
- 41:59Since we have a great high priest,
- 42:02Jesus, who has ascended into heaven,
- 42:06Jesus the the son of God, let us hold
- 42:09firmly to the faith we profess. We do
- 42:13not have a high priest who is unable to
- 42:15empathize with our weakness. But we have
- 42:18one who has been tempted in every way
- 42:20just as we are. So he's he's just as
- 42:23human as you and I. Okay? Yet he did not
- 42:26sin.
- 42:28So what do you do? that he's a priest,
- 42:30high priest. He's our priest. So what
- 42:33does he actually allow us to do? This is
- 42:35the next bit. Therefore, let us then
- 42:38approach God's throne of grace. Let us
- 42:42get into the garden. We can get into the
- 42:45most holy place with confidence so that
- 42:50we may receive mercy and find grace to
- 42:53help us in our time of need. All right,
- 42:58we ready? Hebrews chapter 8. Here we go.
- 43:02Hebrews chapter 8. I'm literally just
- 43:04going to start reading and then just
- 43:06talk about it. We ready? I'm just going
- 43:07to read and talk. Here we go. So,
- 43:10Hebrews chapter 8 verse one. Now, the
- 43:12main point of what we are saying is
- 43:14this. Isn't it wonderful when someone
- 43:15writes something and they tell you this
- 43:16is what I'm really talking about? I love
- 43:18it. All right. Here we go. We do have
- 43:20such a high priest. This Jesus person
- 43:23who sat down at the right hand of the
- 43:25throne of the majesty in heaven who
- 43:27serves in the sanctuary, the true
- 43:30tabernacle set up by God, not by mere
- 43:33human hands. Okay. So, the author is
- 43:36saying there's a different tabernacle.
- 43:39There's a different most holy place that
- 43:41no one else has access to but Jesus.
- 43:45Oh, well, didn't didn't Aaron and all
- 43:47that stuff with, you know, earthly
- 43:49priesthood and temple and tabernacle,
- 43:51wasn't that all like is that the same
- 43:53thing? Hebrews is making a very
- 43:55different argument. So, this is what he
- 43:56says in verse three. He's going back to
- 43:59the Old Testament now, explaining things
- 44:00for us to understand in context. Every
- 44:03high priest is import is appointed to
- 44:06offer both gifts and sacrifices. Okay?
- 44:09So, the high priest does the offerings
- 44:11and sacrifices. And so it was necessary
- 44:13for this one also to have something to
- 44:16offer. This Jesus needs something to
- 44:18offer. If he were on earth, he would not
- 44:22be a priest. For there are already
- 44:24priests who offer the gifts prescribed
- 44:26by the law. Okay? So there's a
- 44:28priesthood already established on earth.
- 44:30They serve at a sanctuary. This is the
- 44:32big passage right here. They serve at a
- 44:35sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of
- 44:40what is in heaven. Okay. So, it's a
- 44:42replica. It's a model of what really is.
- 44:47This is why Moses was warned when he was
- 44:50to build the tabernacle. Moses was
- 44:52warned this when he was told how the
- 44:54tabernacle should be built. See to it
- 44:56that you make everything according to
- 44:58the pattern shown on the mountain. So,
- 45:00Moses on Mount Si receives the blueprint
- 45:03of the tabernacle.
- 45:05But in fact, the ministry Jesus has
- 45:07received is as superior to theirs as the
- 45:11covenant of which he is a mediator is
- 45:13superior to the old since the new
- 45:15covenant is established on better
- 45:17promises. So he's basically saying, no,
- 45:20what Jesus establishes is better than
- 45:23what the Old Testament priesthood had
- 45:25established.
- 45:27If there had been nothing wrong with the
- 45:29first covenant, the first priesthood,
- 45:30the first temple, no place would have
- 45:33been sought for another. But God found
- 45:36fault with the people and said, here's a
- 45:38long quote, "The days are coming,
- 45:40declares the Lord, when I will make a
- 45:42new covenant with the people of Israel
- 45:44and with the people of Judah. I will not
- 45:47be it will not be like the covenant I
- 45:49made with their ancestors when I took
- 45:51them by the hand to lead them out of
- 45:53Egypt because they did not remain
- 45:55faithful to my covenant. I turned away
- 45:57from them, declares the Lord. This is
- 45:59the covenant I will establish with the
- 46:01people of Israel after that time,
- 46:03declares the Lord. This is it. I will
- 46:05put my laws in their minds. I will write
- 46:08them on their hearts. I will be their
- 46:11God. They will be my people. No longer
- 46:13will they teach their neighbor or say to
- 46:15one another, "Know the Lord," because
- 46:17they will all know me. From the least of
- 46:20them to the greatest, but I will forgive
- 46:23their wickedness and will remember their
- 46:24sins no more. So this is Hebrews author
- 46:28talking right now. By calling this
- 46:30covenant new, he has made the first one
- 46:34obsolete. And what is obsolete and
- 46:37outdated will soon disappear. So what is
- 46:40he saying in chapter eight?
- 46:42that the first temple, the first
- 46:45tabernacle, the first priestly system
- 46:47according to Aaron is done. It's over.
- 46:51We They were insufficient. They were
- 46:54always insufficient. And they were
- 46:56always pointing to a new and greater
- 46:59relationship God wanted to have with his
- 47:01people. They were always pointing to it.
- 47:03Let's continue reading Romans uh Hebrews
- 47:06chapter uh 9 verse chap Hebrews 9 verse
- 47:09one. Now the first covenant old
- 47:12testament had regulations for worship
- 47:14and also an earthly sanctuary. A
- 47:16tabernacle was set up. In its first room
- 47:19were the lampstands and the table with
- 47:21it consecrated bread. So it's basically
- 47:22describing the furniture. This was
- 47:24called the holy place.
- 47:27So it's holy. But behind the second
- 47:29curtain behind in the next room further
- 47:32was a room called the most holy place
- 47:35which has the golden altar of incense
- 47:37and the golden ark of the covenant. And
- 47:38this ark contained gold, a jar of mana,
- 47:42Aaron's staff that had budded and the
- 47:44stone tablets of the covenant. All
- 47:45right, so it was really decked out with
- 47:47a bunch of important uh symbols. Above
- 47:49the ark were these cherubam, these
- 47:52heavenly figures. And so if you go back
- 47:54to Genesis chapter 3 and Adam and Eve
- 47:56are exiled from the Garden of Eden, who
- 47:59is holding and protecting the gate so
- 48:01Adam and Eve can't get back in cherubam.
- 48:04So the tabernacle is a reflection of the
- 48:07garden of Eden that this most holy place
- 48:10is a reflection of that first Genesis
- 48:13chapter 2 most holy place. All right.
- 48:17But we uh and above the ark were the
- 48:19cherubam of glory overshadowing the
- 48:22anointment cover. But we cannot discuss
- 48:23these things in detail. Now you're like,
- 48:25"Oh, you already did a good job
- 48:26discussing it in detail." No, there's a
- 48:28lot more detail. There's chapters of
- 48:29detail. So here he goes. When everything
- 48:32had been arranged like this, the priest
- 48:34entered regularly into the outer room to
- 48:36carry on their ministry, but only the
- 48:39high priest entered the inner room, and
- 48:41that only once a year, and never without
- 48:44blood or without sacrifice, which he
- 48:46offered for himself and for the sins of
- 48:49the people which they had committed in
- 48:51ignorance. And the Holy Spirit was
- 48:54showing by this. So God is showing by
- 48:56this the way into the most holy place
- 48:59had not yet been disclosed as long as
- 49:01the first tabernacle was still
- 49:04functioning.
- 49:06This is an illustration for the present
- 49:09time for Jesus time indicating that the
- 49:12gifts and sacrifices being offered were
- 49:15not able to clear the conscience of the
- 49:17worshippers. It it couldn't transform
- 49:19the heart. It couldn't change you. It
- 49:21couldn't it could only bandage work if
- 49:24you will. They couldn't transform the
- 49:26heart.
- 49:29They are only uh were not able to clear
- 49:31the conscious of work the worshipper.
- 49:33They are only a matter of food and drink
- 49:35and various ceremonial washings,
- 49:37external regulations applying until the
- 49:39time of this new order or this new
- 49:41covenant. Now here we get to the Jesus
- 49:43portion. But when Jesus Christ came as
- 49:47high priest of the good things that are
- 49:49now already here, he went through the
- 49:52greater and more perfect tabernacle.
- 49:55Okay. What other tabernacle was there?
- 49:57Jesus. There's only one, isn't there?
- 50:00No. Not that that is not made with human
- 50:03hands. That is not to say is not a part
- 50:05of this creation. He did not enter by
- 50:08means the blood of goats and calves or
- 50:10animals. No, he entered the most holy
- 50:13place. once for all by his own blood
- 50:19obtaining eternal redemption.
- 50:22The blood of goats and bulls and the
- 50:24ashes of hepher sprinkled on those who
- 50:26are ceremonial unclean sanctify them so
- 50:29they are outwardly clean. How much more
- 50:32then will the blood of Christ who
- 50:34through the eternal spirit offered
- 50:36himself unblenmished to God. the perfect
- 50:38sacrifice. Cleanse our conscience from
- 50:41acts that lead to death so that we may
- 50:43serve the living God. So what is he
- 50:46saying? Jesus is not only the priest who
- 50:48offers the lamb. He's the priest and the
- 50:52lamb and he's the tabernacle. He's
- 50:56everything wrapped up in one. For this
- 50:59reason, Christ is the mediator of a new
- 51:02covenant that those who are called may
- 51:04receive the promised eternal
- 51:06inheritance. Now that he has died as a
- 51:08ransom to set them free, set you free
- 51:11from the sins committed under the law,
- 51:14the first covenant.
- 51:17In the case of a will, it is necessary
- 51:19to prove the death of the one who made
- 51:21it. Because a will is enforced only when
- 51:24somebody has died. It never takes effect
- 51:26while the one who made it is living.
- 51:28This is why even the first covenant was
- 51:30not put into effect without blood. When
- 51:32Moses had proclaimed every command of
- 51:34the law to all the people, he took the
- 51:37blood of calves together with water,
- 51:38scarlet wool, and branches of hipup, and
- 51:40sprinkled the scroll in all the people.
- 51:42He said, "This is the blood of the
- 51:44covenant which God has commanded you to
- 51:46keep. In the same way, he sprinkled with
- 51:48the blood both the tabernacle and
- 51:49everything used in its ceremonies. In
- 51:51fact, the law requires that nearly
- 51:53everything be cleansed with blood, and
- 51:55without the shedding of blood, there is
- 51:57no forgiveness of sins." Okay? It was
- 52:00necessary then for the copies of the
- 52:03heavenly things to be purified with
- 52:06these sacrifices, but the heavenly
- 52:08things themselves with better sacrifices
- 52:10than these. For Christ, this is
- 52:12important. For Christ did not enter a
- 52:14sanctuary made with human hands that
- 52:16were only a copy of the true one. He
- 52:20entered heaven itself,
- 52:23not to appear uh now to appear for us in
- 52:27God's presence. Nor enter heaven to
- 52:30offer himself again and again. The high
- 52:33priest enters the most holy place once a
- 52:35year with blood that is his own.
- 52:37Otherwise, Christ would have not would
- 52:39have had to suffer many times since the
- 52:41creation of the world. But he has
- 52:43appeared once for all at the culmination
- 52:46of all things, the culmination at the
- 52:48right time in history to do away with
- 52:51sin by the sacrifice himself. Just as
- 52:54people are destined to die once and
- 52:56after that face judgment, so Christ was
- 52:58sacrificed once to take away the sins of
- 53:01many. And he will appear a second time,
- 53:03not to bear a sin, but to bring
- 53:04salvation to those who are waiting for
- 53:08him.
- 53:09We'll stop there. I could just keep
- 53:11reading the whole book and that could be
- 53:12the sermon, but we'll just stop there.
- 53:14So, what's going on here? I could I feel
- 53:16like I'm just saying the same thing a
- 53:17hundred times over, but here's the
- 53:19important bit.
- 53:22Every time we read the Old Testament,
- 53:24we're trying to think of we think of it
- 53:26as if as if it's like it's still
- 53:29contained within within the Old, oh
- 53:32well, there's still a priestly system.
- 53:33There's still a temple. But the New
- 53:36Testament interpretation in Christ
- 53:37through Christ of the Old Testament is
- 53:40so different
- 53:42that you can actually go back and read
- 53:44the Old Testament scriptures and see
- 53:47Christ all the way through. You're not
- 53:49putting Jesus in there as if he's
- 53:52foreign to it. Hebrews is making the
- 53:54argument that everything that was
- 53:57established in this first covenant, this
- 53:59first relationship that God had with
- 54:00Israel, everything that was established
- 54:03was there for a purpose. It was always
- 54:06there to reveal Christ. And now that
- 54:08Christ has come, the first covenant is
- 54:10no more. A new covenant in his blood.
- 54:13Him as the high priest, as the
- 54:15sacrificial lamb, and as the tabernacle
- 54:17itself.
- 54:19is established. So then this begs the
- 54:21question, and this is really the nexus
- 54:24of the Christian faith. What does it
- 54:26have to do with me? What does it have to
- 54:28do with me? We're talking about priests,
- 54:29Joey, and bridging, you know, strong
- 54:32men, and what the heck? No,
- 54:35it has to do with you because what does
- 54:39Christ actually give you access to as
- 54:43your high priest?
- 54:45He gives you access not to the shadow or
- 54:50the prototype or the replica of the
- 54:54throne room of God, of the very presence
- 54:57of God. He gives you access to the very
- 55:01presence of God. Hebrews then goes on to
- 55:03say, I don't think I have it up here. I
- 55:04really should have. You can continue on
- 55:06reading. I think it's maybe chapter five
- 55:08or six. um that Christ
- 55:12through the work on the cross which is
- 55:15that decisive moment of forgiveness of
- 55:17sins of him being our priest.
- 55:21He is our forerunner. He actually a
- 55:23forerunner or a pioneer is the first
- 55:26person to make a path to to make a trail
- 55:31into uncharted territory.
- 55:34He goes all the way into the throne room
- 55:37of God and doesn't just like whisper,
- 55:39"Hey, that person over there, their sins
- 55:41are forgiven." No. What he does, Hebrews
- 55:44says, is he anchors our souls to the
- 55:47most holy place of the altar
- 55:50to the very presence of God, but he
- 55:52anchors it in himself as if we are
- 55:56connected to God because of what Christ
- 55:59has done on the cross. So this is the
- 56:03Christian hope that we can say
- 56:05definitively that our sins are forgiven.
- 56:09Our offenses to God are imperfections
- 56:11that we do and we commit to each other
- 56:14and every time we commit something to
- 56:16each other a sin and offense or whatever
- 56:18it's ultimately to God that that has
- 56:21decisively been dealt with. It is not a
- 56:24bandage over your your behavior.
- 56:29It's actually a different standing in a
- 56:32different relationship that you have now
- 56:34with God. Not thanks to you. You're not
- 56:37the person holding up the pillars to
- 56:39make that work, do that work. You can't
- 56:41do it. You can't live a good enough life
- 56:43to be right with God. You can't do it.
- 56:46Those pillars are going to pull back and
- 56:48you I could maybe last five seconds,
- 56:50right? Holding them up. But because of
- 56:52Christ on the cross holding up these two
- 56:57realms, heaven on earth, they begin to
- 57:00overlap in himself. And then it allows
- 57:02as we accept him in faith and in trust
- 57:05and belief in him in Christ himself, he
- 57:08then anchors us into the very presence
- 57:11of God. And then as I think the end of
- 57:14Romans says that we are able through the
- 57:17spirit to testify, our spirit testifies
- 57:20that we can Call on God as father, as
- 57:24children. It's the Aramaic word aba,
- 57:28father. It's like saying daddy as a kid
- 57:30to your parent. It's like that kind of
- 57:32intimacy. It's it's getting us back, if
- 57:34you will, to Genesis 2, like that Garden
- 57:38of Eden moment, but in fact, way better
- 57:40because the garden was only ever
- 57:42pointing to Jesus in the first place.
- 57:44The tabernacle was only ever pointing to
- 57:45Jesus in the first place. It's all
- 57:47pointing to Jesus. And Jesus did that
- 57:50decisive work on the cross for you to
- 57:53have the confidence. This is what
- 57:54Hebrews says at the beginning of chapter
- 57:568 of chapter 4. To have the confidence
- 58:00to enter to the throne room of God. Not
- 58:03as somebody who's a foreigner, but as
- 58:06somebody who walk up to God himself,
- 58:08thanks to Christ, and say, "Dad,
- 58:13that's what the Christian life is
- 58:14inviting you into." That's what the
- 58:16heart of the gospel is. That's what
- 58:19every human heart, every human desire is
- 58:22wanting is waiting for. As St. Augustine
- 58:24says, um, we will not rest,
- 58:29our soul cannot rest until we find our
- 58:32rest in you. Every human is searching
- 58:37after a rest, searching after a home,
- 58:40searching after a place of belonging.
- 58:43And we find that in maybe money or
- 58:45possessions or other relationships or
- 58:49status, influence, um, significance, our
- 58:53intellect. If we can just get to this
- 58:55level or get to this point or have this
- 58:57many, uh, people who love us, then we'll
- 59:00feel rest. But the funny thing is that
- 59:02that game will not give you rest. Your
- 59:05soul will always be wanting more. You
- 59:07will always be wanting more. But what
- 59:09Christ does on the cross as our priest
- 59:11is he brings us into the presence of God
- 59:14that allows us to finally have that rest
- 59:17to feel in our being existentially not
- 59:21because of what we've done but purely
- 59:23because of what Christ has done for us
- 59:24on the cross that we can rest.
- 59:29The burden of life is lifted.
- 59:32We don't have to hold those pillars up
- 59:33anymore. We weren't really doing a good
- 59:35job anyway.
- 59:37Christ has held them up for us, pulled
- 59:40them together, and invites us into a new
- 59:42way of life that begins faith in him.
- 59:50So, I I don't know where where you're at
- 59:52in your life right now in your Christian
- 59:54walk. I'm sure I'm looking I know a lot
- 59:56of you. I know all of you, most of you
- 59:58um you know, you've been walking with
- 1:00:00Jesus for a long time, but I think it's
- 1:00:01it's so easy for us to to try and be our
- 1:00:05own priest.
- 1:00:07It's so it's so easy for us to try and
- 1:00:09and hold up our own life to do the work
- 1:00:12that we were never meant to do to to
- 1:00:14feel like our accomplishments and the
- 1:00:16things that that that life itself relies
- 1:00:18upon us. But what's so beautiful about
- 1:00:21Jesus is that we don't need to rely we
- 1:00:23don't need to be the one that holds
- 1:00:25everything together. That Christ's
- 1:00:27priesthood holds everything together,
- 1:00:29holds us together. So I I'm sure every
- 1:00:33every time, every week, sometimes every
- 1:00:35single day, I'm like, "Lord, I feel so
- 1:00:37sufficient in myself. I repent of that.
- 1:00:39Help me feel insufficient of myself so I
- 1:00:40can find my sufficiency in you. I you're
- 1:00:43my priest." So this is a chance today to
- 1:00:47kind of surrender a new Lord. I've been
- 1:00:49relying so much on my own strength,
- 1:00:50being my own priest for my own life. I
- 1:00:53can't do it.
- 1:00:55Jesus, I need to cling on to you as you
- 1:00:57bring me into the presence of God. And
- 1:01:00I'm sure some of us here today who have
- 1:01:02never ever heard anything of what I'm
- 1:01:05talking about and you might find this
- 1:01:08kind of attractive like you know I'm
- 1:01:11weary I'm this life is a burden I'm
- 1:01:16always searching for the next thing and
- 1:01:17it's never satisfying
- 1:01:19this Jesus thing sounds like I could
- 1:01:22find rest in him then I would invite you
- 1:01:25to receive Christ as well so the front
- 1:01:28is open for prayer for those two groups
- 1:01:31and we would love to pray for you myself
- 1:01:33or any of our servant leaders here or
- 1:01:36anybody else who uh sees himself as like
- 1:01:39an spiritual elder in this church.
- 1:01:41Please I invite you to come pray with
- 1:01:42people as well. Okay. So let's stand
- 1:01:44together as I pray and and as you feel
- 1:01:48led to receive prayer rather Jesus for
- 1:01:50the first time please come to the front
- 1:01:51just stand there. Someone will come pray
- 1:01:52with you and if you just need prayer to
- 1:01:54help let go just let go and cling on to
- 1:01:59Christ. then please come to the front.
- 1:02:00We would love to pray for you, too.
- 1:02:02There's power in prayer. Jesus wants to
- 1:02:03meet you here today. Let's pray. Lord
- 1:02:06Jesus Christ, you are phenomenal. You
- 1:02:08are amazing. What you've done on the
- 1:02:10cross far exceeds any of our
- 1:02:12imaginations. We know it's something
- 1:02:14significant. It's incredibly important
- 1:02:17and it's something decisive that you
- 1:02:18have given to the world. And Lord, as
- 1:02:21giving it to the world, you've given it
- 1:02:22to us. So in this moment, Lord, through
- 1:02:26your spirit, I ask you speak to our
- 1:02:27hearts. Speak to us at the deepest
- 1:02:30level. Call us closer to you.
- 1:02:34May we live a life that is fully reliant
- 1:02:38upon you and what you've done on the
- 1:02:40cross. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
- 1:03:11And he is jealous.
- 1:03:20I am a tree.
- 1:03:34Allen
- 1:03:39worth the patience
- 1:03:43by glory.
- 1:03:46And I realize just how beautiful you
- 1:03:51are. How great your
- 1:03:56mess.
- 1:04:13how he loves us so
- 1:04:25he loves us so
- 1:04:33he loves us.
- 1:04:36How he loves us
- 1:04:40so
- 1:05:07Yeah, he loves
- 1:05:09us.
- 1:05:11Oh, how he loves
- 1:05:15us.
- 1:05:17Oh, how he loves
- 1:05:21us.
- 1:05:23Oh, how he loves
- 1:05:30Yeah, he loves us.
- 1:05:34Oh, how he loves
- 1:05:39us.
- 1:05:40Oh, how he loves
- 1:05:45us. Oh, how he loves
- 1:05:54and we are his portion. And he is our
- 1:05:59bride drawn to redemption by the grace
- 1:06:04in his eyes. If grace is an ocean, we're
- 1:06:11all
- 1:06:17and heaven meets earth like an unful
- 1:06:22kiss and my heart turns viret
- 1:06:34when I think
- 1:06:37the way
- 1:06:40he loves
- 1:06:41us.
- 1:06:43Oh, how he loves
- 1:06:47us.
- 1:06:49Oh, how he loves
- 1:06:53us. Oh, how he loves.
- 1:07:02Yeah, he loves us.
- 1:07:06Oh, how he loves
- 1:07:10us.
- 1:07:11Oh, how he loves
- 1:07:16us.
- 1:07:17Oh,
- 1:07:19he loves
- 1:07:33The space remains open.
- 1:07:37Just really want to pray for you guys.
- 1:07:45Father, you are here.
- 1:07:51We are so thankful
- 1:07:54for you.
- 1:08:02Thank you for holding things
- 1:08:05when we can't
- 1:08:09and thank you for never leaving
- 1:08:11ourselves.
- 1:08:18We want to know you.
- 1:08:32My hope is found.
- 1:08:35He is my light, my strength,
- 1:08:39my song.
- 1:08:41This corner stone,
- 1:08:44this solid ground
- 1:08:48firm through the fiercest
- 1:08:51and stos
- 1:08:58of peace.
- 1:09:00and fears are still
- 1:09:03with seas.
- 1:09:06My comforter,
- 1:09:09my all in all.
- 1:09:12Here in the love of Christ
- 1:09:16I
- 1:09:24Christ alone
- 1:09:26who flesh
- 1:09:31of God in
- 1:09:36this gift of love
- 1:09:39and rightousness
- 1:09:42Scored by the he
- 1:09:52died.
- 1:09:54The wrath of God
- 1:09:57was sisfied
- 1:10:00for every sin
- 1:10:03on him was laid
- 1:10:06here in the cross.
- 1:10:10I live
- 1:10:18in the ground
- 1:10:21his body lay.
- 1:10:30embersing forth
- 1:10:33in glorious day.
- 1:10:37Up from the grave he rose
- 1:10:40again.
- 1:10:42And as he stands
- 1:10:45in victory
- 1:10:48since
- 1:10:52his grip on me
- 1:10:55for I am his
- 1:10:58and he is mine.
- 1:11:02with the precious blood
- 1:11:05of Christ.
- 1:11:10No guilt in life,
- 1:11:13no fear in death.
- 1:11:16This is the power of Christ
- 1:11:20in me.
- 1:11:22From life's first cry to final bread,
- 1:11:29Jesus commands my destiny.
- 1:11:34No power
- 1:11:39man
- 1:11:46till he returns.
- 1:11:49Oh, calls me home.
- 1:11:53here in the power of Christ.
- 1:11:58No power of hell,
- 1:12:01no scheme of man
- 1:12:04can ever blend.
- 1:12:26Would
- 1:12:29you pray with me?
- 1:12:33Generous God, you went to great with us
- 1:12:38by sending Jesus to die on the cross for
- 1:12:41our sins.
- 1:12:43Generous God, you demonstrate that you
- 1:12:46are with us by providing forot.
- 1:13:40That was beautiful. But I want to just
- 1:13:42circle back to what I said at the start
- 1:13:46of the service today about how joy is
- 1:13:49contagious.
- 1:13:51We should be so happy that Jesus does
- 1:13:55that for us.
- 1:13:58So,
- 1:13:59we've done this song a few times and
- 1:14:03every time I go on the stage, you
- 1:14:04probably, oh my goodness, we're going to
- 1:14:05do the song again, Sarah. Come on. But
- 1:14:07it's fine. So, I'm going to quickly
- 1:14:09refresh your brain on the actions. Yes,
- 1:14:12actions. Yeah, you probably already know
- 1:14:13where I'm going with this. All right, so
- 1:14:17you guys help me, right? Guitar.
- 1:14:21You pick me up.
- 1:14:24You turn me around.
- 1:14:27You place my feet on solid ground.

- 1:15:24And I try with all my mind.
- 1:15:28I just can't
- 1:15:31slowly drift
- 1:15:35a bag of
- 1:15:41just when I
- 1:15:47did it alone. And he's told me that I
- 1:15:51was alone.
- 1:15:57Pick me up and turn me around. He placed
- 1:16:01my feet on solid ground. I think master
- 1:16:06I savior
