  1. 0:00Hi guys, I'm Danielle.
  2. 0:01And I'm Curtis.
  3. 0:02And welcome to Pompeo Home.
  4. 0:04Our 700 sq ft oasis in Hyde Park,
  5. 0:07Chicago.
  6. 0:08Come on in.
  7. 0:09Come on in.
  8. 0:13So, welcome to our living room. This is
  9. 0:15one of our favorite portions of our
  10. 0:17home. Honestly, we chose it because of
  11. 0:19the beautiful bay windows and the view
  12. 0:21of Hyde Park. So, we live really close
  13. 0:23to the Obama Center, the University of
  14. 0:25Chicago, and we get to see all of that
  15. 0:27through these gorgeous bay windows that
  16. 0:29have so much character.
  17. 0:30We almost have like a little view of the
  18. 0:32lake as well. Like if you squint a
  19. 0:35little bit of penthouse without being a
  20. 0:37penthouse, if you know what I mean, with
  21. 0:39the lake view. So, that's that's what we
  22. 0:41like to say, at least in our mind,
  23. 0:43that's how it all worked out. Now, we're
  24. 0:45going to talk about some of the things
  25. 0:46in the space that we just absolutely
  26. 0:48love, which is like this chair, this
  27. 0:50this chair
  28. 0:51It's comfortable.
  29. 0:52right here. There's a really cool story
  30. 0:53about this chair. This chair was bought
  31. 0:55at
  32. 0:55outlet store. It's actually a piece of
  33. 0:57outdoor furniture.
  34. 0:58Yeah.
  35. 0:59Believe it or not. We saw it one day,
  36. 1:02and I knew we had to have it, but the
  37. 1:03car was packed. Told Danielle that I was
  38. 1:05coming back out there first thing.
  39. 1:06I didn't believe him.
  40. 1:07The next day. And now it's here. We call
  41. 1:09it our Gucci chair. It makes you just
  42. 1:11feel expensive.
  43. 1:13Something we like to do is entertain,
  44. 1:14have our friends and family over. We
  45. 1:16pack out our 700 sq ft apartment, for
  46. 1:19real.
  47. 1:20We be in here tight.
  48. 1:21We do. Plates on the lap, like holidays,
  49. 1:23all that. Some of the things that were
  50. 1:24actually really important to us was the
  51. 1:25sofa. It's actually by Six Penny. It's
  52. 1:27stunning. One of our favorite features
  53. 1:29is the entire like cover. You can remove
  54. 1:32it, dry clean it, and swap it out for
  55. 1:33another color. I thought a white couch
  56. 1:35was kind of dangerous, but not when you
  57. 1:37can replace it.
  58. 1:38Still dangerous, guys. I will say this,
  59. 1:40if we knew what we knew now about our
  60. 1:43style, about everything
  61. 1:44Yeah.
  62. 1:45we would have opted out of the white
  63. 1:46couch. Even though we know auntie and
  64. 1:48grandma and all of them all got a white
  65. 1:50room and a white couch
  66. 1:53we probably should have opted out of the
  67. 1:54white couch, you know, makeup and all.
  68. 1:57This is where you can say I told you so.
  69. 1:59Yeah.
  70. 2:00Exactly. Another thing that we really,
  71. 2:02really love in our living room space and
  72. 2:05that we wanted to make sure that we had
  73. 2:07in our home was a gallery wall. Our
  74. 2:11journey with art, like we've always been
  75. 2:13around it and been around creativity,
  76. 2:16but really being able to step into what
  77. 2:19it means to be like collectors and to
  78. 2:21preserve like art and black story is
  79. 2:24something that's really, really
  80. 2:25important to us.
  81. 2:26What is your favorite piece in the
  82. 2:29collection?
  83. 2:30I consider it one piece because they
  84. 2:31were a pair, but the twins. Shayna McCoy
  85. 2:34really did something nice and special
  86. 2:36for some of her friends and family and
  87. 2:38gave us these two patches up here. Twins
  88. 2:40are in our family and just like reminds
  89. 2:42us of childhood.
  90. 2:44And hopefully our future.
  91. 2:45Hopefully our future.
  92. 2:47Fingers crossed.
  93. 2:48Those are my favorites. What about you?
  94. 2:50My favorite you guys will see later,
  95. 2:52which is by Nico Washington and it is
  96. 2:55Starboy. It's in our bedroom and the
  97. 2:58thing that's really, really special
  98. 2:59about that piece is Nico actually used
  99. 3:01to live on our street. The fact that we
  100. 3:04now have a piece that we own in our
  101. 3:06collection from Nico is just like crazy.
  102. 3:09Nico also did this work behind us as
  103. 3:11well, which was a wedding gift from our
  104. 3:13friend Adrian Octavius Walker, who is
  105. 3:15another incredible artist.
  106. 3:17His work's there.
  107. 3:18Who? His work is right here. So, the
  108. 3:20fact that our collection actually speaks
  109. 3:23to one another is something that's
  110. 3:25really, really important. And this piece
  111. 3:27that we didn't get to talk about, we've
  112. 3:29called it baby girl and this is also a
  113. 3:31Shayna McCoy. Just an original that
  114. 3:34Shayna gifted to us because I hosted an
  115. 3:36artist talk with her in Los Angeles and
  116. 3:40yeah, she made this special for us. So,
  117. 3:42we don't know if this is foreshadowing,
  118. 3:45um,
  119. 3:46but you know, I wouldn't I wouldn't mind
  120. 3:47being a girl dad.
  121. 3:49When we first moved in, we had nothing
  122. 3:50in here. It was white space, like very
  123. 3:54much Chicago apartment when you first
  124. 3:56move in.
  125. 3:57Um but we went to Jason Home and picked
  126. 3:59up a lot of books. It was like our first
  127. 4:00investment. So, we found a ton of books
  128. 4:03that inspired us, but also could be used
  129. 4:05as form a form of decoration.
  130. 4:07Um you see we have Virgil Abloh, we have
  131. 4:10Henry Taylor, The New Vanguard, and this
  132. 4:13is just a little bit of our collection.
  133. 4:15When we started our journey, we really
  134. 4:18were trying to find a way to marry both
  135. 4:20of our styles together, which I would
  136. 4:22say that Yael's style was very neutral.
  137. 4:25She liked lines.
  138. 4:26Okay, y'all. It was.
  139. 4:27structure. And
  140. 4:30now
  141. 4:31Now we have a green ceiling.
  142. 4:32Yeah, we have a green ceiling and blue
  143. 4:34walls. You You know what I mean? It's
  144. 4:36definitely giving candy shop. We found
  145. 4:38maximalism and that our ability to show
  146. 4:43up in a design practice and an approach
  147. 4:45that we felt like was a great way to
  148. 4:47merge both of the things that we love.
  149. 4:49Maximalism afforded us the opportunity
  150. 4:51to be able to play in a really, really
  151. 4:53special way. And so, we get to do that a
  152. 4:55lot in smalls. So, with smalls, you're
  153. 4:58looking at, you know, objects like this,
  154. 5:01like this really incredible vessel that
  155. 5:03we got from Jason Home, as Danielle
  156. 5:04said.
  157. 5:05Yeah, Jason Home's all up in here.
  158. 5:07We love Jason Home.
  159. 5:08we cannot not mention the candle. Smells
  160. 5:10amazing. I'm so close to the fire. Woo.
  161. 5:12But um we also get a lot of our candles
  162. 5:14from Jason Home. Do you remember the
  163. 5:15scent?
  164. 5:16Mm, but I don't remember the scent.
  165. 5:18Yeah. So many great things and Jason
  166. 5:20Home always has them in stock.
  167. 5:21But it is our home scent, which is
  168. 5:24important. We found to be able to have a
  169. 5:26uh a scent that can be associated with
  170. 5:28your home.
  171. 5:29Yeah.
  172. 5:30It's just like that other thing that
  173. 5:31make it really feel like exquisite. Talk
  174. 5:33about Mr. Fish.
  175. 5:34Oh my gosh. Okay, this is honestly
  176. 5:36Curtis's thing, so it's really nice he's
  177. 5:37letting me talk about the Mr. Fish. Um
  178. 5:40but Mr. Fish is also from the Lincoln
  179. 5:41antique store um here in Chicago. And
  180. 5:44like, look at him. Little fish. This was
  181. 5:46one of the things Curtis bought and
  182. 5:48didn't know if I was going to be like,
  183. 5:48"Oh, babe, what is that?" What do we
  184. 5:50have here?
  185. 5:51Oh, it's salon.
  186. 5:54Apartmental salon. That was a gift from
  187. 5:56our friend Karen.
  188. 5:56Shout out to Karen.
  189. 5:57Thank you, Karen.
  190. 5:58We love you.
  191. 5:59But I love Mr. Fish and so does Daniel.
  192. 6:02I do. He's lucky.
  193. 6:03Let's take you guys into our dining room
  194. 6:05cuz we love our dining room.
  195. 6:13Characters all have been really in the
  196. 6:15entire building. It feels like it's
  197. 6:16almost like a pre-war building and some
  198. 6:19things that came with our apartment are
  199. 6:21actually our built-in bookshelves. So,
  200. 6:23the built-in bookshelves, there's two of
  201. 6:24them, another twin thing.
  202. 6:27Um, and it's a home for a lot of our
  203. 6:29books that we got from Jason Home. So, I
  204. 6:31mean, honestly, if these weren't here, I
  205. 6:34feel like the entire dining room would
  206. 6:35feel completely different, but I feel
  207. 6:37like it really frames up the place and
  208. 6:39gives us another place to store some
  209. 6:40more smalls.
  210. 6:41She said it was the bay windows that she
  211. 6:43fell in love with, guys, but honestly,
  212. 6:45once she saw the bookshelves and the
  213. 6:47arch, I knew it was over. As we
  214. 6:49mentioned before,
  215. 6:51Safari Lounge, fresh fruit,
  216. 6:54limes, all the things you need in the
  217. 6:56lab.
  218. 6:57And you can smell it, so that means it's
  219. 6:59ready. It's ripe and ready. This little
  220. 7:01bowl we got sourced in Los Angeles on
  221. 7:04one of our trips there from Olive
  222. 7:07Atelier. We mentioned Jason Home before.
  223. 7:09This
  224. 7:10Another Jason Home.
  225. 7:10organic wood stool stump
  226. 7:15thing we love so much is from Jason
  227. 7:17Home. When we saw it, we knew we had to
  228. 7:19have it. Shout out to Green Ink, which
  229. 7:21has been our local florist that has held
  230. 7:24us down. So, shout out to Green. We'll
  231. 7:27link them. And then we have this really,
  232. 7:28really beautiful vessel that we sourced
  233. 7:31from Oklahoma randomly. Don't let these
  234. 7:33people out here get you into getting
  235. 7:36those vessels for like $100, $200, $300.
  236. 7:40Don't do that to yourself. There's a
  237. 7:42little shop in Oklahoma. We've got you
  238. 7:44covered. The table was a gift to my
  239. 7:45wife. She wasn't my wife at the time.
  240. 7:48Or you were my fiance?
  241. 7:49No.
  242. 7:49No, she was a girlfriend. Y'all, she was
  243. 7:51a girlfriend. I was gifting tables.
  244. 7:54All right. So, when we're setting up the
  245. 7:56table, a lot of times it's just Curtis
  246. 7:58and I. So, we have two chairs here. One
  247. 8:00of our favorites is actually another
  248. 8:03deal from the Crate & Barrel Outlet,
  249. 8:05suburbs of Chicago. I think this is
  250. 8:07right near like Juliet, Aurora area.
  251. 8:09There's a Crate & Barrel Outlet and we
  252. 8:11got this chair. Look at it. It's
  253. 8:13beautiful and I can't tell you exactly
  254. 8:15how much it was, but it was definitely
  255. 8:16under $150.
  256. 8:18Maybe like 70, 80 bucks.
  257. 8:20Has this beautiful detail in the back.
  258. 8:22It's wood and then like the cushion and
  259. 8:23everything is comfortable. Comfort is
  260. 8:25important to us, which honestly might
  261. 8:27you might look at the other chair and be
  262. 8:28like, "Um." But, this one is super
  263. 8:30comfortable, very beautiful. It styles
  264. 8:32differently even in our living room,
  265. 8:34dining room, however we see it. It's
  266. 8:36just one of our favorites.
  267. 8:37Let's talk about the elephant in the
  268. 8:38room.
  269. 8:39Uh elephant? Okay, well, the elephant in
  270. 8:41the room is that our refrigerator is in
  271. 8:43our dining room. And I know that's not
  272. 8:45everyone's cup of tea, but we when we
  273. 8:47saw it, we just knew that we were going
  274. 8:48to have to work with it because we loved
  275. 8:50the other elements in our apartment. Um
  276. 8:53it isn't as cumbersome as it looks, but
  277. 8:55definitely not our favorite thing, but
  278. 8:57we just made it work. Um adding in these
  279. 8:59shelves here from Crate & Barrel um kind
  280. 9:02of made it feel like this whole area was
  281. 9:03a little bit more utility and
  282. 9:05functional. Win some, you lose some.
  283. 9:06Like, this was one of our our
  284. 9:08compromises for our apartment.
  285. 9:09additions in here that you love. You
  286. 9:12know, it was the one project that was
  287. 9:14Danielle's thing that she owned
  288. 9:17and honestly it was one of the best
  289. 9:19ideas ever. So, talk about it.
  290. 9:20Okay. So, when you look at our
  291. 9:22apartment, you wouldn't ever guess that
  292. 9:24some of our ceiling tiles are actually
  293. 9:25made of foam. Um our ceiling tiles here
  294. 9:28and also in our entry, we'll show you
  295. 9:29later, are ceiling tiles from Amazon.
  296. 9:32It's been up there for like 2 years,
  297. 9:34right?
  298. 9:35No, almost like
  299. 9:37three?
  300. 9:37Almost three years and we like barely
  301. 9:39have to make a repair.
  302. 9:41Yeah. So
  303. 9:42Yeah.
  304. 9:43If you're thinking about it on your own
  305. 9:44edge
  306. 9:45hopefully we just push you over.
  307. 9:47it. It's really easy.
  308. 9:48in the back, these sconces and this
  309. 9:50gallery light on the wall are all
  310. 9:53additions that we made and those really
  311. 9:55helped elevate the space and paired
  312. 9:57really beautiful with this paint that we
  313. 9:59got in Los Angeles from Portola
  314. 10:02Yeah.
  315. 10:03and the color nitty-gritty and it is
  316. 10:05actually to be able to simulate a
  317. 10:08plaster. There's a family who created
  318. 10:10this recipe years ago um that the father
  319. 10:12did and then the sons took the business
  320. 10:14over and now we have this really really
  321. 10:16beautiful technique and our friend Vic
  322. 10:19who's an interior designer in Los
  323. 10:20Angeles was the one who put us on. Shout
  324. 10:23out to Vic.
  325. 10:23Hey Vic.
  326. 10:24We love Vic. This back wall um is a
  327. 10:27piece that is currently on loan
  328. 10:29from an artist by the name of Von Davis
  329. 10:31Jr. in St. Louis. Wanted to textile
  330. 10:33piece for the longest time to really
  331. 10:35round out our collection and to make
  332. 10:37something bold and so this painting
  333. 10:40really paired well with the movement
  334. 10:43that was happening in
  335. 10:45the nitty-gritty. So it just was the
  336. 10:48last period of resistance to the room.
  337. 10:57Welcome to our kitchen. This is also
  338. 10:59another area that we put a lot of love
  339. 11:01and attention into.
  340. 11:03Um there's beautiful things in here and
  341. 11:05one of the most obvious things is that
  342. 11:07our kitchen is actually kind of small.
  343. 11:08There's enough room for just the two of
  344. 11:09us so it's given just the two of us.
  345. 11:18All right, that's good.
  346. 11:19music break. Things we did in here to
  347. 11:20make it feel more like our own and open
  348. 11:22up the space actually take the doors off
  349. 11:24of some of our cabinets. So this exposes
  350. 11:27our beautiful dishware that we swap out
  351. 11:29depending on the season, depending on
  352. 11:30the holiday. One of our favorite things
  353. 11:33to open up this space and make it feel a
  354. 11:35little bit more interesting
  355. 11:37um and custom. So, yeah.
  356. 11:39Because it is a galley-style kitchen and
  357. 11:43obviously there's no window, it was
  358. 11:45really important for us to be able to
  359. 11:46try to bring some sort of color or light
  360. 11:49into the space to make cooking feel like
  361. 11:52more of an adventure.
  362. 11:53Yeah, like a TV set.
  363. 11:55Like a TV set. And also to be
  364. 11:57reminiscent of our travels and things
  365. 11:59like that.
  366. 12:00So, for my 30th birthday, we actually
  367. 12:02went to Italy and we were really, really
  368. 12:04inspired by the textures and colors that
  369. 12:06we saw in the country. And because of
  370. 12:08that, we found these tiles
  371. 12:11on Etsy. And now we have this really,
  372. 12:14really beautiful tile wall in our
  373. 12:16kitchen. So, it reminds us of um the
  374. 12:19Amalfi Coast and Capri. We love Capri.
  375. 12:22We love Capri.
  376. 12:24Shoutout to our TaskRabbit. He was
  377. 12:26amazing and super talented and made this
  378. 12:28look so realistic.
  379. 12:30So, super random side note about the fun
  380. 12:33facts you find out about your
  381. 12:34TaskRabbit. Andy is a working actor who
  382. 12:38was actually a double on The Dark
  383. 12:40Knight.
  384. 12:41Right, for Batman. Like
  385. 12:42for Batman.
  386. 12:43Not just like anybody.
  387. 12:44Yeah. So, maybe Andy might also be your
  388. 12:46TaskRabbit guy, too. That's the kitchen.
  389. 12:49What you see is what you get.
  390. 12:52Pretty much.
  391. 12:59My favorite piece in the collection is
  392. 13:01actually in our bedroom. It communicates
  393. 13:03directly to the gallery wall that's in
  394. 13:04the living room because
  395. 13:06the two Nico Washingtons actually mirror
  396. 13:08each other that are in the home. And
  397. 13:10Starboy for us just feels so warm and
  398. 13:13like another character and an element
  399. 13:15that's textural that we wanted to add
  400. 13:17into our space. Art is not always
  401. 13:18something that you always think about in
  402. 13:20having in a bedroom, but it just feels
  403. 13:22so powerful and it inspires us. And you
  404. 13:25think about stars at night. Like there's
  405. 13:27a lot of connective tissue there. This
  406. 13:29is the Nico piece that we'll never stop
  407. 13:31talking about. So Star Boy is like
  408. 13:35pride and joy.
  409. 13:36Star Boy actually sits right above one
  410. 13:38of our favorite additions to our
  411. 13:39bedroom, which is this 18th century
  412. 13:41Mexican table that we got from First
  413. 13:43Dibs. When we were looking for a vanity
  414. 13:45that could house all of our little
  415. 13:48tchotchkes.
  416. 13:49We just got married and so we actually
  417. 13:50got
  418. 13:52um this unisex perfume while we were in
  419. 13:55Mexico City, where we went for our
  420. 13:57honeymoon. And we just loved the like
  421. 13:59design elements of it. And this really,
  422. 14:02really dark wood is something that we
  423. 14:05found through our process of designing
  424. 14:07that we really gravitated towards. So we
  425. 14:09wish that our armoire would have been in
  426. 14:13this like really dark wood. Can y'all
  427. 14:14see it? You see the vision.
  428. 14:16have been beautiful.
  429. 14:17It would have been It would have been so
  430. 14:19good, but that's okay, guys, because
  431. 14:21that's the beauty about design. It
  432. 14:22evolves with you over time. So if y'all
  433. 14:25see this again
  434. 14:26And it's dark.
  435. 14:26And it's dark.
  436. 14:27You know why.
  437. 14:28You were there when, folks. You were
  438. 14:30there when. So the paint color is also
  439. 14:32from Portola. You can either do Roman
  440. 14:35Clay or lime wash,
  441. 14:37which are also both very popular that
  442. 14:39we're seeing in design. But this color
  443. 14:41is Figueroa, but we really wanted
  444. 14:43something that was like more oasis, more
  445. 14:46calm in our bedroom, because we really
  446. 14:48like the feeling when we travel to other
  447. 14:50countries and how it feels to be in a
  448. 14:52boutique hotel. And the ladder we got
  449. 14:55from Etsy. Again, this is when we were
  450. 14:57on our bender for the dark wood.
  451. 14:59Right.
  452. 15:00So after the fact
  453. 15:02and our dark wood stool that we sourced
  454. 15:05in LA at the Rose Bowl. Now it cost a
  455. 15:08lot to ship it back.
  456. 15:09That yeah, we shipped it. Like
  457. 15:11But it was worth it.
  458. 15:11FedEx didn't care.
  459. 15:12Yeah, because when you try to buy this
  460. 15:14on First Dibs
  461. 15:16they're going to run your pocket.
  462. 15:17Honestly, when we first found the
  463. 15:19apartment, the two closets was really
  464. 15:21nice. I think we both have an extensive
  465. 15:23wardrobe and wanted to have space, um
  466. 15:26but also it's tucked away and easy to,
  467. 15:28like, you know, separate from the rest
  468. 15:30of our room.
  469. 15:30Really wanted this like elongated feel
  470. 15:33in the room to be able to bring in some
  471. 15:35of that Scandinavian wasabi sort of vibe
  472. 15:38to the room with the source vessels.
  473. 15:41Those really simple ways to design
  474. 15:43really tied the room together in a way
  475. 15:46that felt considered, but also
  476. 15:49gave it elevation.
  477. 15:50Well, our bedding is all from Parachute
  478. 15:52Home except for this gorgeous indigo
  479. 15:54pillow that's all also from Jason a
  480. 15:57home.
  481. 15:58Um but yeah, our bedding we chose all
  482. 16:00from Parachute Home. It was really
  483. 16:01inspired by a Scandinavian design. We
  484. 16:03wanted the bedding to look like it was
  485. 16:05overflowing, so we scaled up in the
  486. 16:07sizing. Like, I think we used like
  487. 16:08king-size duvet covers where we could,
  488. 16:11throw blankets, and things like that to
  489. 16:13make it feel fuller. Um and honestly,
  490. 16:16linen sheets was a a must for us. It's
  491. 16:19just it takes a lot to like make you
  492. 16:20look pretty. So, we stain them.
  493. 16:22Yeah.
  494. 16:22I don't know if we would recommend it
  495. 16:23per se, but
  496. 16:24I mean, Danielle pretty much could get
  497. 16:26an award now. This is that like luxe
  498. 16:29hotel vibe that like once you dive in,
  499. 16:32you feel like you don't want to get out
  500. 16:33of the bed. So, I love being able to
  501. 16:35come in here after a long day's work.
  502. 16:37And what we can say is why we didn't go
  503. 16:39with the headboard.
  504. 16:40For us in the bedroom, we wanted the
  505. 16:41slate to be clear, and Danielle loves
  506. 16:43pillows, so we already knew there were
  507. 16:45going to be a thousand pillows. So, you
  508. 16:47know, sometimes the pillows are the
  509. 16:49headboard.
  510. 16:50This is our bedroom.
  511. 16:55This is our bathroom. It's pretty
  512. 16:58intimate and small if you can't tell.
  513. 17:01Intimate.
  514. 17:01Uh it's intimate. One of my favorite
  515. 17:03characteristics of our bathroom is
  516. 17:05actually our floors. So, they're like
  517. 17:07this gingham print almost. I'm sure
  518. 17:10there's a better word for this in the
  519. 17:11design community um to describe the
  520. 17:13tiles on our floor, but it's so
  521. 17:14beautiful um black and white, and it
  522. 17:16just makes you feel like you're in a
  523. 17:18vintage space.
  524. 17:19Yeah.
  525. 17:19Um, but we made some other additions to
  526. 17:21the bathroom that make it feel more like
  527. 17:23us in that spa-like feeling.
  528. 17:24And it's not an ad, but Portola Paints.
  529. 17:28We're back with more Roman Clay, guys.
  530. 17:30I'm trying to think of the color. I
  531. 17:31don't remember the specific
  532. 17:32floor?
  533. 17:33You got a good memory. Forest floor is
  534. 17:35what we did on the actual walls in here.
  535. 17:37And like Danielle said, it just made us
  536. 17:39think of a spa.
  537. 17:40Mhm.
  538. 17:40And so, we wanted because the space was
  539. 17:42so small, we wanted it to feel like an
  540. 17:44escape from the rest of the house that
  541. 17:46you could take a moment to yourself.
  542. 17:47Because of the floor, we wanted to bring
  543. 17:49in those black notes into other moments
  544. 17:52of how we did paint and trim. Um, and
  545. 17:55that's also what we used for like the
  546. 17:57light switch and the light covers. You
  547. 17:58can think of this or not. Depends on how
  548. 18:00good you guys feel like we did. Um, we
  549. 18:02added in these chocolate curtains. And
  550. 18:05then we took them all the way up to the
  551. 18:07ceiling to make the room look bigger.
  552. 18:09Because originally the curtain rod was
  553. 18:12like this tall, maybe like 6 ft. And
  554. 18:14then we took it up to about 9. Love
  555. 18:16Aesop. And so, the cabinet felt like a
  556. 18:19moment in the Aesop store. One thing
  557. 18:21that we've done throughout the home,
  558. 18:23whether it's like organizing under the
  559. 18:25sink and closed closets, we really
  560. 18:28wanted stuff to feel merchandised. It
  561. 18:30feels like we're shopping when we're in
  562. 18:32our own home.
  563. 18:38We continued our ceiling tiles up above.
  564. 18:41Um, and then also we added some more
  565. 18:43trim in here. So, it kind of gives more
  566. 18:44of that antique looking feel. Um, and
  567. 18:47then another renter-friendly DIY in
  568. 18:49here, um, are sconces. So, you saw these
  569. 18:52in our in our living room. Um, and you
  570. 18:55also see them here in our foyer area.
  571. 18:57So, really beautiful. Plus our green
  572. 18:59doors that continue into other parts of
  573. 19:01our home feels like a big moment for
  574. 19:04continuity, but also like Cardi said, it
  575. 19:06feels like a palate cleanser.
  576. 19:07Things about these like historic Chicago
  577. 19:10apartments is like there's this call
  578. 19:12system
  579. 19:14It does not work.
  580. 19:14button thing here that doesn't work, but
  581. 19:17it's so cool and I really wish it worked
  582. 19:19because when people come to visit you,
  583. 19:21you got to like buzz them up on your
  584. 19:22cell phone. It would have been so cool
  585. 19:24to be able to do this. So, we are now in
  586. 19:27our study.
  587. 19:28Um the reason we call it a study is
  588. 19:30because we added these floating
  589. 19:31bookshelves here um that we found on
  590. 19:34Amazon to house our books. This is one
  591. 19:37of those projects that we had a vision
  592. 19:39for and we didn't quite finish because
  593. 19:41we wanted books to engulf this whole
  594. 19:43space and life just our life. It's our
  595. 19:47little moments to remind ourselves to
  596. 19:48slow down our day and to grab a book
  597. 19:52on a nice Saturday or Sunday
  598. 19:54and kick back and relax.
  599. 19:56As we live in an apartment building,
  600. 19:58like the actual entry like entrance to
  601. 20:00our door is very uniform. Everyone else
  602. 20:01has the same door. We wanted to have
  603. 20:03something that felt like us, gave a bit
  604. 20:04of character and also continued some of
  605. 20:06that molding that we've done throughout
  606. 20:08the rest of the home. You get the
  607. 20:10feeling like a Lincoln Park like
  608. 20:12from like a
  609. 20:13street view of some of those gorgeous
  610. 20:15row homes.
  611. 20:17Um tell them about the fox.
  612. 20:18This is really special because if you
  613. 20:20look all throughout the home at
  614. 20:22different moments, we have these little
  615. 20:23like characters that show up that really
  616. 20:26bring this like enchanting and like
  617. 20:28whimsical nature into the space. I'm a
  618. 20:30writer director and specifically my
  619. 20:32genre is fantasy and fiction. So, these
  620. 20:35little moments of like the fox and the
  621. 20:38birds and the horses and the little
  622. 20:40things that we have throughout the space
  623. 20:42are like really special to us. Like this
  624. 20:44is a horse gold door stopper
  625. 20:47um that we're using as like a book
  626. 20:48weight, but I love that my wife lets me
  627. 20:51do things like this because it really
  628. 20:53makes me happy. And people like the fox.
  629. 20:55Feel like he's like lucky.
  630. 20:57Yeah, like you rub it.
  631. 20:58your way out. You can like rub them for
  632. 20:59good luck. The two F's, functional and
  633. 21:01fly. If we can hit both of those, we did
  634. 21:04the Lord's work.
  635. 21:05Speaking of fly, you got to tell them
  636. 21:06about our entryway rug.
  637. 21:07If you don't know the album, go listen
  638. 21:09to it by Outcast. So, we really wanted
  639. 21:12to make sure that we had a
  640. 21:13representation of like our love for
  641. 21:16music. Danielle is the real music head.
  642. 21:18I just cosplay as one. But, she's the
  643. 21:20one that if you need to know who made
  644. 21:23it, when it was made, all that, she's
  645. 21:24your girl. Me, I just like what I like,
  646. 21:27and I like this CD rug.
  647. 21:29We loved the apartment for many reasons,
  648. 21:32but this was the first thing we saw,
  649. 21:34which were these uh closets. Gives us a
  650. 21:36lot of space, very, very functional, and
  651. 21:38there's four of them. In order to make
  652. 21:40it feel more like a moment, we painted
  653. 21:42them green. Um so, we got that big like
  654. 21:45I don't know how you'd describe this,
  655. 21:46but a very cohesive, um and also grand.
  656. 21:50So, not really a door handle on there.
  657. 21:51We needed to add our own. We found these
  658. 21:53on
  659. 21:54Amazon.
  660. 21:54Amazon. Um and we love them because
  661. 21:58they're gold, but also very, very
  662. 21:59sturdy. They're using like a 3M like
  663. 22:02double-sided tape. Um we just got four
  664. 22:04of them.
  665. 22:04Oh, yeah. It's all about designing with
  666. 22:06one continuous thought in mind. This is
  667. 22:08our house. This is the house of Taylor.
  668. 22:11I'm Curtis.
  669. 22:12I'm Danielle.
  670. 22:13And this is Pompeo home. And
  671. 22:16we don't want to say you got to go home,
  672. 22:17but
  673. 22:18you do got to get up out of here.
  674. 22:20Bye. Thank you so much.
