  1. 0:05Okay, thank you guys so much for joining
  2. 0:07us. Um, I just have been answering some
  3. 0:09of this stuff in the chat. I I gotta say
  4. 0:12we only do this webinar once a year, so
  5. 0:13I'm hoping I have the settings right.
  6. 0:16Um, where you guys are automatically
  7. 0:17muted, but if not, you might just mute
  8. 0:19yourself just in case. Um, so we are
  9. 0:22going to go ahead and get started. Uh,
  10. 0:24is there an echo for everybody? I see
  11. 0:25Debbie saying that in the chat. It might
  12. 0:28be your your speakers. I'm hopeful that
  13. 0:30it's not everybody. Um, okay, perfect.
  14. 0:33So, so yeah, you Debbie, you might just
  15. 0:35kind of mess with your speakers. Maybe
  16. 0:36turn the sound off and back on.
  17. 0:38Sometimes that works. Um, okay. Well,
  18. 0:40guys, thank you so much for joining us.
  19. 0:42We've got quite a few people on the call
  20. 0:43here. And if you want during the
  21. 0:46session, um, I'm I'm gonna have some
  22. 0:48students joining us here in just a
  23. 0:50little bit to help answer some questions
  24. 0:51in the chat. But as we go, if you have
  25. 0:54questions, feel free to drop them either
  26. 0:56in the chat or in the Q&A function and
  27. 0:59we can answer as we go. Um, but we'll
  28. 1:01also leave some time at the end. So, if
  29. 1:03you have any questions there, we can be
  30. 1:04sure to answer them. So, uh, just some
  31. 1:06intros before you before we dive in. I
  32. 1:09figured it's kind of good for you to
  33. 1:10know some faces and names. Um, these are
  34. 1:12kind of the main folks on our team that
  35. 1:14you might see around during recruitment.
  36. 1:16We'll be at move in day. We will be um,
  37. 1:18kind of all around, but my name is
  38. 1:20Kylie. I am the panelic adviser on
  39. 1:22campus. So, if you came to Greek
  40. 1:23preview, you probably remember seeing me
  41. 1:25there. Um, but I serve as the director
  42. 1:27of our fraternity sority programs and
  43. 1:28services office. So, I get to work in
  44. 1:30the office of student life with our
  45. 1:32awesome student groups. Um, and our
  46. 1:34great community. Um, we've also got some
  47. 1:36great folks here. Uh, Alex and John Ryan
  48. 1:39and Evan are also full-time staff
  49. 1:41members on the fraternity sority team.
  50. 1:42So, you'll see all four of us kind of
  51. 1:44running around during recruitment
  52. 1:45helping support. Same thing at um same
  53. 1:48thing at the movein day.
  54. 1:50And then Andy, Hannah, and Julia are our
  55. 1:53kind of main student leaders when it
  56. 1:54comes to the panelinic recruitment
  57. 1:55process. So those three folks are um our
  58. 1:58VPs of recruitment and our panelinic
  59. 2:00president. So again, just some names to
  60. 2:02faces. So if you see us around, have any
  61. 2:03questions, you can always let us know.
  62. 2:05We're happy to help. So this is kind of
  63. 2:06our agenda for this evening. Um I'm
  64. 2:08hoping we keep it right at an hour.
  65. 2:10Sometimes it goes a little over with
  66. 2:11Q&A, but we can always um you know, if
  67. 2:13you ever need to hop off, not a big
  68. 2:14deal. I'm recording this and I'll post
  69. 2:15it on our website so we can answer
  70. 2:17questions. Um, and if you have to leave,
  71. 2:19you can get that at the end. But we'll
  72. 2:21cover um just kind of some general
  73. 2:23information here. We'll do briefly what
  74. 2:24you can expect from Panalytic membership
  75. 2:26in general. We'll cover some recruitment
  76. 2:28basics and lingo. We'll go over the
  77. 2:30recruitment process, talk about how
  78. 2:32selections and bid matching works, and
  79. 2:34then generally just how to support your
  80. 2:36student and give them some good
  81. 2:37resources throughout the recruitment
  82. 2:39process because I know this can be
  83. 2:40really foreign to a lot of people. And
  84. 2:42so my hope tonight is that you leave
  85. 2:44being like, "Okay, I know the lingo. I
  86. 2:46know how the process is going to work.
  87. 2:48Um, we can answer questions that you
  88. 2:50have as we go. Um, but I hope that this
  89. 2:52gives you kind of a good groundwork and
  90. 2:54kind of ground level of the recruitment
  91. 2:57process. So, some just general
  92. 2:59information about panelic membership
  93. 3:00before we get into the recruitment
  94. 3:01things. Um, I always get questions about
  95. 3:04kind of like what does time commitment
  96. 3:05look like? What does academics financial
  97. 3:07commitment? All of that stuff look like.
  98. 3:09So, when it comes to panalytic
  99. 3:11membership, some good things to know. um
  100. 3:13you can expect to spend like anywhere
  101. 3:15from one to two hours a week on sorority
  102. 3:17things. So I think sometimes people
  103. 3:18think oh if I'm an honor student I can't
  104. 3:20do both. Definitely not the case. We
  105. 3:22have honor students in all of our
  106. 3:23chapters. Um so again you can be
  107. 3:26involved in as many things as you want.
  108. 3:28I think like most things in life the
  109. 3:30sority membership process is one of
  110. 3:32those things like what you get out of it
  111. 3:33is what you put into it. So um you know
  112. 3:36on the base level students can expect
  113. 3:38one to two hours a week. Same thing with
  114. 3:40GPA. I think sometimes people think that
  115. 3:42their GPA is either going to tank or
  116. 3:43that, you know, they're worried about
  117. 3:45their academic rigor in terms of um how
  118. 3:48that's going to play into the time
  119. 3:49commitment of sority life. A lot of our
  120. 3:52students, again, like I said, are honor
  121. 3:54students. Our all panelinic GPA in the
  122. 3:56spring was a 3.47, which is well above
  123. 3:58the all women's average on campus. Um
  124. 4:01and 98% of our first year students
  125. 4:03retain to that second year of
  126. 4:04membership. Um and OU, which is great.
  127. 4:08Um, and then kind of the last like
  128. 4:09commitment piece that's good to know and
  129. 4:11we get a lot of questions about is our
  130. 4:13financial commitment. So, Panalytic does
  131. 4:15do financial transparency. Um, there's a
  132. 4:17QR code to the left that kind of takes
  133. 4:19you to that page. Um, but we'll also
  134. 4:21email that out. It'll be in your
  135. 4:22students Canvas class for recruitment,
  136. 4:24the most updated copy. And, um, oh,
  137. 4:27great. The QR code doesn't seem to work.
  138. 4:29Andy is in this group chat. Do you mind
  139. 4:31dropping in the link in the chat, Andy,
  140. 4:34to um to the financial transparency?
  141. 4:37that would be super helpful. It's hard
  142. 4:39to do that when I'm sharing my screen.
  143. 4:40Um, but yeah, so we can we'll get that
  144. 4:42link to you guys. Um, and we'll I'll put
  145. 4:44it in the next parent email as well. But
  146. 4:47something else good to know, uh, when it
  147. 4:49comes to financial commitment there,
  148. 4:51like I said, the panelic groups are
  149. 4:53great about financial transparency. One
  150. 4:55other piece that is good to know, we
  151. 4:57have something called the Greek fee at
  152. 4:58OU. It's a $30 semesterly fee that that
  153. 5:02gets put on your students BERSAR in
  154. 5:03October is when the first billing
  155. 5:05happens. that happens semesterally. Um,
  156. 5:07and that helps fund risk management and
  157. 5:09safety programs from our office. It
  158. 5:11helps fund some staffing. Um, so ways
  159. 5:13that we help support the Greek
  160. 5:14community. So, that's something else
  161. 5:16good to know. All other panelinic dues
  162. 5:18and fees go through the national
  163. 5:20organizations. So, some groups use a
  164. 5:22platform called um like Bill Highway.
  165. 5:25There's one called Greek Bill. There's
  166. 5:27all these different kinds of billing
  167. 5:28softwares that run through the national
  168. 5:30organizations. But the only Greek uh
  169. 5:32specific fee that would be build through
  170. 5:34the university bersar account is that
  171. 5:36$30 semesterly fee. So we've got some
  172. 5:38exemption process too if your student is
  173. 5:40PEL grant eligible or Oklahoma's
  174. 5:42promise. Um there's a exemption form
  175. 5:45that they can fill out and or if there's
  176. 5:47other like extenduating financial
  177. 5:49circumstances. Totally get it. So we're
  178. 5:50happy to help guide you through that
  179. 5:52process. So if that's something you have
  180. 5:53questions about, you can let me know and
  181. 5:54I'm happy to help. Okay. So, getting
  182. 5:57into formal recruitment. The reason why
  183. 5:59I know you all are here. Um, some terms
  184. 6:01to know, there's I got to say there's a
  185. 6:04lot of lingo, a lot of jargon when it
  186. 6:06comes to formal recruitment. I think
  187. 6:08that why is why the process can feel
  188. 6:10like kind of daunting and scary to
  189. 6:12people is like everyone's talking in
  190. 6:13acronyms. There's just a lot of words
  191. 6:15that don't always mean what they sound
  192. 6:17like. So, some things to know. PNM is a
  193. 6:20big one. You're going to hear this word
  194. 6:21a lot or this acronym a lot. It stands
  195. 6:23for potential new member. That is your
  196. 6:25student. So your student is known as a
  197. 6:27P&M. She'll be assigned a P&M number.
  198. 6:29We've got a couple of students every
  199. 6:31year that have similar names and so we
  200. 6:33assign a number to make sure that the
  201. 6:35right student is getting asked back to
  202. 6:36the right chapters, etc. Um recruitment
  203. 6:39guides are known on our campus as
  204. 6:41rogamas. Every campus has a little bit
  205. 6:43of a different name that they use for
  206. 6:45those students, but they're think of
  207. 6:47them like a counselor, like a camp
  208. 6:48counselor kind of. They help guide the
  209. 6:50students through the recruitment
  210. 6:51process. And so we have rogue gamas that
  211. 6:54are in um each hall floor and so they'll
  212. 6:57be there each night. They'll help with
  213. 6:59selections. They'll help give your
  214. 7:00student advice, support, all the things.
  215. 7:03Um and so the rogamas are really awesome
  216. 7:05during recruitment. Parties are each of
  217. 7:07the events that happen during each round
  218. 7:09of formal recruitment. So like you've
  219. 7:11probably seen in the schedule, there's a
  220. 7:13round one, round two, round three, round
  221. 7:15four, and then within each round is
  222. 7:17what's called a party. It's not really a
  223. 7:19party. It's just talking to people. you
  224. 7:21just go into the chapter house. Uh
  225. 7:23someone would pick your student up at
  226. 7:24the door, but that specific slot of time
  227. 7:27is called a party time. So whenever she
  228. 7:29gets her schedule in the morning, it'll
  229. 7:30have her schedule that's broken up by
  230. 7:33each round, and it would say like party
  231. 7:35one is from 9 to 9:35 a.m. And so she
  232. 7:38and it would say which chapter she needs
  233. 7:39to be at or if she has a break. And so
  234. 7:42that's kind of what we mean by parties.
  235. 7:44Panelinic is a word that not a lot of
  236. 7:46people know. It's the governing body
  237. 7:48that oversees and facilitates the formal
  238. 7:50recruitment process. So, like I said,
  239. 7:51I'm the panelinic adviser. Andy on this
  240. 7:54call is a panelist. She is the panelinic
  241. 7:56vice president of recruitment. Um, so
  242. 7:59there's there's lots of different
  243. 8:00officers involved, but all of the
  244. 8:02different 11 organizations on our campus
  245. 8:05are member organizations of Panelinic.
  246. 8:08So, we kind of help oversee all the
  247. 8:09things. And then this is last one is one
  248. 8:12you're going to hear a lot tonight and
  249. 8:13in general. Maximize your options. It's
  250. 8:16always the advice we give to students.
  251. 8:18It's the best way to do formal
  252. 8:19agreement. So, utilizing all options
  253. 8:21available to you during the recruitment
  254. 8:23process. Um, so maximizing your options
  255. 8:26gives you the most chance to match at
  256. 8:28the end of the process. And I'm going to
  257. 8:30go through a bid matching example here
  258. 8:31in a little bit so you can see how that
  259. 8:33works in real time. Um, but that's kind
  260. 8:35of what we mean when we say maximize
  261. 8:37your options. There's two different
  262. 8:38groupings during recruitment. The hall
  263. 8:41groups and the tour groups. Hall groups
  264. 8:43are who your students meet with each
  265. 8:44evening.
  266. 8:45um they meet all the time. Again, it's
  267. 8:48it's a way for them to the students to
  268. 8:50get to know people that are living on
  269. 8:51their hall floors. And if your student
  270. 8:53is a commuter, then they still have a
  271. 8:55hall group. Um it's just a great way to
  272. 8:57meet other students. And so you'll your
  273. 8:58student will have a rogamma that's
  274. 9:00assigned to the hall group. Um and
  275. 9:02they're kind of like their leader during
  276. 9:03the week. So that's that's one way that
  277. 9:05we help group students. And then tour
  278. 9:07groups are only utilized on round one.
  279. 9:10We are one of the few schools that still
  280. 9:12does an in-person round one. We think
  281. 9:13it's really important that students get
  282. 9:15a chance to like put themselves out
  283. 9:16there, meet every chapter. We don't do a
  284. 9:19video round like a lot of schools. And
  285. 9:21so, uh, the way that we do round one is
  286. 9:23with these tour groups. So, your student
  287. 9:25will be assigned based on a tour group
  288. 9:27based on their last name. So, it's
  289. 9:29groups one through 24. If your student
  290. 9:32has a last name like A through, I don't
  291. 9:34know, the middle of A, um, then that
  292. 9:37will they'll probably be in in two or
  293. 9:38group one. Um, and they travel around
  294. 9:41together during round one. They do meals
  295. 9:43together. They'll have a group me. Um,
  296. 9:45so right before recruitment begins, we
  297. 9:47send an email out with uh your students
  298. 9:49hall floor group me, your tour group me.
  299. 9:52They'll get added so they kind of know
  300. 9:54what's going on. Um, but there's
  301. 9:56different roamas that they'll have for
  302. 9:57all of these groups. So they're going to
  303. 9:58get to know a lot of upper classmen that
  304. 10:00can help support them through the
  305. 10:01process. And then the last kind of uh
  306. 10:03term to know is a chapter. So like I
  307. 10:05talked about, we have 11 different
  308. 10:06chapters on campus in our panelinic.
  309. 10:09They're like a local branch of a
  310. 10:10national sorority organization. So, all
  311. 10:1211 of our groups have national
  312. 10:14organizations that help oversee these
  313. 10:16organizations. Um, but they're they're
  314. 10:18really great. Our chapters are all
  315. 10:20really strong at the local and the
  316. 10:21national level. And so, know that your
  317. 10:23student is joining like a welloiled
  318. 10:25machine. Um, and you know, these a lot
  319. 10:28of our chapters have been on campus for
  320. 10:30over a hundred years. A lot of them have
  321. 10:31celebrated centennials. So, very fun
  322. 10:34little bit of Ulor.
  323. 10:36Okay. Um, let me look in the chat and
  324. 10:39see if anything. Oh, Andy's answering
  325. 10:41these. Perfect. Andy, you're the best.
  326. 10:44Okay, formal recruitment. So, we're
  327. 10:45going to do kind of like a basic
  328. 10:47overview and then I'm going to go into
  329. 10:48into depth with each round. So, some
  330. 10:51things to know about the recruitment
  331. 10:52structure. We've got a four round
  332. 10:54process and it's split over seven days.
  333. 10:57Um, so that basically means that over
  334. 10:59seven days, your student is going to get
  335. 11:01to meet a lot of different chapters. um
  336. 11:04the first round being the one where they
  337. 11:05will meet all 11. At the end of the day,
  338. 11:08the process is designed to match
  339. 11:10students to chapters. So, we use a
  340. 11:12mutual selection process, meaning your
  341. 11:14student will make selections, the
  342. 11:16chapter makes selections, we have a
  343. 11:18computer system that matches everybody
  344. 11:20up. It's the same computer system that
  345. 11:22all campuses use. Um, and yeah, as the
  346. 11:26process goes, the time spent at each
  347. 11:28chapter increases. So, we'll kind of go
  348. 11:31through each round so you can see what
  349. 11:32that looks like. Um, and I'll answer
  350. 11:35some questions as we go. I see Barbara
  351. 11:38has her hand raised. Is there was there
  352. 11:39a question about a previous slide that
  353. 11:41you want to I think you can unmute.
  354. 11:43Maybe I'm hoping I have the settings
  355. 11:46right.
  356. 11:50Maybe not. Sandra, do you have a
  357. 11:52question? I can see your hand is raised,
  358. 11:53too.
  359. 11:57Oh, perfect. Okay. How about for now if
  360. 11:59you guys just want to drop your
  361. 12:00questions in the chat, that might be the
  362. 12:01easiest and then we'll keep moving.
  363. 12:04Perfect. Okay, so we'll start with round
  364. 12:07one at the base level. Round one happens
  365. 12:09again, it's over two days, August 9th
  366. 12:11and 10th. Um, and students visit 11
  367. 12:13chapters over those two days. So one day
  368. 12:15they might visit five, the next six or
  369. 12:17vice versa. The events, the parties are
  370. 12:1925 minutes long, and there's 15 minutes
  371. 12:22between each round. The students are led
  372. 12:24around by the recruitment guides in
  373. 12:26groups of 70 to 75. I think right now if
  374. 12:28the numbers are going to be exactly as
  375. 12:30they are, they'll probably be about
  376. 12:3173ish people in each group. And they uh
  377. 12:35the students will wear their panelic
  378. 12:36t-shirts that we provide on movein day.
  379. 12:39So they'll wear wear the red one on
  380. 12:40August 9th and the white one on August
  381. 12:4210th. And there's kind of long days. So
  382. 12:46the parties start the first one starts
  383. 12:47at 9:00 a.m. The last one ends at 5:55
  384. 12:50p.m. Um so it's kind of a full day of
  385. 12:52events. They like I said, they'll go to
  386. 12:54five or six chapters that first day. Um,
  387. 12:57but the parties are 25 minutes long, so
  388. 12:59there's going to be times in the day
  389. 13:00where they have a break and they'll stay
  390. 13:02with their group. So, the group will
  391. 13:04have like a cool waiting area um because
  392. 13:06it can get pretty hot in August and and
  393. 13:08in August um here in Oklahoma. So, we'll
  394. 13:11have a waiting area for them. Um but
  395. 13:14they'll eat lunch together with their
  396. 13:15group. We'll have a set lunch break with
  397. 13:17an assigned dining hall. um we've grown
  398. 13:20quite a bit over the last few years and
  399. 13:21so we assign dining halls to make sure
  400. 13:23there's enough chairs for for the
  401. 13:25students um that are coming at set
  402. 13:27times. So we'll assign that lunch break.
  403. 13:29But again, this whole round your
  404. 13:31students are led around by a recruitment
  405. 13:33guide. So as long as they stay with that
  406. 13:34group, they're going to be just fine. Um
  407. 13:37the chapters and the recruitment guides
  408. 13:39will do attendance outside of each
  409. 13:40chapter. They kind of go through the
  410. 13:42line, make sure people are in the right
  411. 13:43order. It's a lot of like alphabetical
  412. 13:45order, so your student will get to know
  413. 13:47some of the people around her.
  414. 13:48um in line kind of during round one. So
  415. 13:51round one is it can feel like a lot. I
  416. 13:53think the days can feel a little bit
  417. 13:55long. Um but there is a lot of downtime.
  418. 13:58There's a lot of just like kind of
  419. 13:59people are sitting on the ground in the
  420. 14:01waiting room, you know, waiting for the
  421. 14:02next party. Um so I think my best advice
  422. 14:05during round one of recruitment is like
  423. 14:08use that downtime to collect yourself.
  424. 14:10Um so that you know, especially if
  425. 14:12you're someone who's kind of
  426. 14:13overstimulated, I think round one can be
  427. 14:15really loud. There's a lot of students.
  428. 14:16Like I said, there's about 70 to 75 in
  429. 14:19these events. Um, and so it can be
  430. 14:21really loud in the chapter houses. So,
  431. 14:23just some things to expect there for
  432. 14:25round two for philanthropy round. Um,
  433. 14:30oh no, sorry, I'm Andy is texting me
  434. 14:33saying that people can't see your chats.
  435. 14:36Uh,
  436. 14:37let me see. Andy, is there a way where
  437. 14:40you can select everyone instead of just
  438. 14:42hosts and panelists in that dropdown?
  439. 14:45You might try that.
  440. 14:48Okay. So, I don't think there's a way
  441. 14:49for me to select everyone, but I can
  442. 14:53respond to the Q&A questions. So, I
  443. 14:57don't know if you guys can like see
  444. 14:58that, but there is a Q&A and I I'm a I'm
  445. 15:00able to like respond to those things.
  446. 15:03[snorts]
  447. 15:04>> I don't know if everyone can see those,
  448. 15:05but for some reason, it's not letting me
  449. 15:07like respond to everyone.
  450. 15:09>> Okay, great. No worries. I just made you
  451. 15:10a co-host. You might try now and see if
  452. 15:12that worked. I'm gonna do the same thing
  453. 15:13to Hannah.
  454. 15:16Um, okay, perfect.
  455. 15:18You can tell we only use this webinar
  456. 15:20once a year. I feel like they change the
  457. 15:21settings every year, too, on me. We're
  458. 15:24learning, you know. Um, oh yeah, a
  459. 15:26couple of questions I can answer in
  460. 15:28here. Uh, are they outside during the
  461. 15:30downtime or in the cool areas? They're
  462. 15:31definitely inside. We've got some
  463. 15:33waiting rooms for them so that they're
  464. 15:34not out in the heat that long. A lot of
  465. 15:36the chapters also, they do this for all
  466. 15:38rounds of recruitment, but they'll have
  467. 15:40like tents outside their front door so
  468. 15:42that they can make sure uh folks are not
  469. 15:44just like in the direct sun. So, know
  470. 15:46that that is a thing. How many people
  471. 15:48are going through recruitment? Right
  472. 15:49now, we have 1,762
  473. 15:52people signed up. Um that number might
  474. 15:54decrease a little bit. Sometimes folks
  475. 15:56decide kind of last minute not to go
  476. 15:58through or, you know, maybe they decide
  477. 16:00on a different university. Not a huge
  478. 16:01deal. So, it's the biggest number that
  479. 16:03we've ever had. But again, don't stress
  480. 16:05about the number. We'll talk about why
  481. 16:07that's not a huge deal here in just a
  482. 16:09little bit. Um, but yeah, so yeah, kind
  483. 16:12of a reminder here. Make sure to put any
  484. 16:14questions in the Q&A function instead of
  485. 16:16the chat. I think that will help with uh
  486. 16:19some of the questions there. Okay, so
  487. 16:21we'll keep moving. So we talked about
  488. 16:22round one. Round two is focused on
  489. 16:25philanthropy. So this is where the
  490. 16:28rounds start getting really personalized
  491. 16:29for students. So round one, every P&M,
  492. 16:32every student is visiting all 11
  493. 16:34chapters. On round two, that is after
  494. 16:37chapters make selections and after
  495. 16:38students make selections. And so this is
  496. 16:41when students start to get personalized
  497. 16:42schedules that are delivered by the
  498. 16:44recruitment guide in the morning
  499. 16:46basically to their hall floor to their
  500. 16:48dorm room. So on round two, it's split
  501. 16:51into two days. August 11th and 12th
  502. 16:53students can visit a maximum of eight
  503. 16:55chapters again split over two days. So
  504. 16:58there will be lots of downtime um
  505. 17:00because that round I think there's 16
  506. 17:02party slots and if your student can only
  507. 17:04visit a max of eight, right? They're
  508. 17:06going to have breaks built in throughout
  509. 17:08the day. The parties get a little bit
  510. 17:10longer. So they're 35 minutes and this
  511. 17:12is a change for this year. Um parties uh
  512. 17:16rounds two through four, there are now
  513. 17:1820 minutes between parties instead of
  514. 17:2015. So, if you've heard horror stories
  515. 17:22about people running from north to south
  516. 17:24Greek, um they didn't really need to run
  517. 17:27in the first place. But hopefully this
  518. 17:28gives everyone a little bit more time to
  519. 17:30like breathe, get to their next event. I
  520. 17:32think five minute five minutes make a
  521. 17:34lot of difference. So, uh because we
  522. 17:36were able to split rounds in half this
  523. 17:38year, we were able to add a little bit
  524. 17:40more time between parties. So, excited
  525. 17:41about that. Um again, your student will
  526. 17:43have a personalized schedule. So, we are
  527. 17:45a little bit old school. We print those
  528. 17:46out every morning and your recruitment
  529. 17:48guide will bring it to your student's
  530. 17:50dorm room. If your student is not living
  531. 17:52in the residence halls, um the
  532. 17:54recruitment guide often will work out
  533. 17:56something additional. Uh whether it's
  534. 17:58meeting them on campus, um sending them
  535. 18:00a picture over text, doing a FaceTime
  536. 18:02call, something like that, but the
  537. 18:04recruitment guide will work it out with
  538. 18:05your student to figure out what's best
  539. 18:07for them. um especially if they don't
  540. 18:09have parties for the first few time
  541. 18:11slots, they might work it out where they
  542. 18:13don't need to come to campus quite so
  543. 18:14early because we know some people are
  544. 18:16driving from a little further. So, we'll
  545. 18:18work that out with your student
  546. 18:19individually. On this round, students
  547. 18:22wear the pink panelinic shirt on August
  548. 18:2411th and the navy one on August 12th.
  549. 18:26[snorts] Um again, there's a set lunch
  550. 18:28break, so there'll be time to go grab
  551. 18:30lunch. Um but say your student has a
  552. 18:32break in the party right before lunch
  553. 18:34and wants to go get lunch early, she
  554. 18:36totally can do that. the the party times
  555. 18:39are set, but your student's schedule is
  556. 18:41really uh personalized to her. So, what
  557. 18:44her what her schedule looks like might
  558. 18:46not be what her roommates looks like.
  559. 18:48So, this is kind of a good time to to
  560. 18:50practice like that independence that
  561. 18:51they're going to have in college. I
  562. 18:52think this is like a great first time to
  563. 18:54do that. Um, but there's lots of people
  564. 18:56to eat lunch with, lots of people to
  565. 18:57hang out with, all those good things.
  566. 18:59And then again, I'm going to talk about
  567. 19:01some stats here in a little bit, but
  568. 19:02something good to know once we get to
  569. 19:04round two, not every student is going to
  570. 19:06have a full schedule and that is okay.
  571. 19:09Like we will talk about the stats from
  572. 19:11the past, but I think if everyone goes
  573. 19:13in thinking that they are going to have
  574. 19:14the maximum amount of chapters um that's
  575. 19:17just not how the process works because
  576. 19:20at the end of the day, you can only end
  577. 19:21up in one, right? So you don't
  578. 19:23necessarily need eight that second round
  579. 19:25to get there. But again, we'll we'll
  580. 19:26throw some stats up from last year just
  581. 19:28so I think it helps kind of orient
  582. 19:30people's mind into what we're talking
  583. 19:32about. So just know not every student
  584. 19:34will have a full schedule, but all will
  585. 19:36have breaks throughout that process.
  586. 19:38Round three looks a lot like round two.
  587. 19:41Personalized schedules. The parties are
  588. 19:42a little bit longer. They're 45 minutes.
  589. 19:44Still have 20 minutes in between. Um the
  590. 19:47students can visit a maximum of five
  591. 19:49chapters split over those two days. The
  592. 19:52but it's very similar, right? So, they
  593. 19:53have that personalized schedule that's
  594. 19:55delivered by the recruitment guide. Um,
  595. 19:57this round is free dress so students can
  596. 19:59wear whatever they want. There's some
  597. 20:01ideas in our guide book and I know some
  598. 20:02chapters have posted like some little
  599. 20:04ideas and stuff, but really my best
  600. 20:06advice is wear something that you feel
  601. 20:08comfortable and confident in. Um, this
  602. 20:11is around where there are house tours.
  603. 20:13So, you know, you'll be climbing some
  604. 20:15stairs if you're a student that is going
  605. 20:17through that process. So, I would think
  606. 20:19about like what kinds of shoes am I
  607. 20:21comfortable climbing stairs in? you
  608. 20:23know, if there's someone behind me, like
  609. 20:24is my dress, is someone going to see out
  610. 20:26my dress? You know, those kinds of
  611. 20:27things. So, be thinking about like what
  612. 20:29you fill your best self in is the best
  613. 20:31advice I always give to students. Um,
  614. 20:33and then this round, there's no set
  615. 20:35lunch break, but because the parties are
  616. 20:37a lot longer, there's plenty of time for
  617. 20:39students to grab lunch kind of on their
  618. 20:41way to events. Between events, they'll
  619. 20:43have breaks built in. So, round three
  620. 20:45looks very similar to round two, um, but
  621. 20:48the parties are just a little bit longer
  622. 20:49and they're focused on sisterhood. So
  623. 20:52whether that looks like how students get
  624. 20:53involved on campus or whatever, there's
  625. 20:56lots of ways uh that chapters kind of
  626. 20:58talked about their sisterhood and what
  627. 21:00that looks like to them. And then the
  628. 21:02last round is preference round or pref
  629. 21:05students can visit a maximum of two
  630. 21:07chapters and this is the last night of
  631. 21:09recruitment. So the parties are a little
  632. 21:10bit longer. There's 60 minutes, same as
  633. 21:12the other rounds, 20 minutes in between
  634. 21:14and that personalized schedule is
  635. 21:16delivered by the Rogamut. This one's a
  636. 21:17little bit different. Happens in the
  637. 21:18afternoon. So in the morning we do
  638. 21:22honestly some of the stuff I'm going to
  639. 21:23cover in this webinar we use the same
  640. 21:25slides we will talk about with your
  641. 21:27students in that session. Um but we do
  642. 21:29some trainings kind of on what to expect
  643. 21:31with bid matching. And this one again
  644. 21:34there's no set attire but we always tell
  645. 21:36people to think about like summer
  646. 21:37wedding like something you would wear to
  647. 21:38a summer wedding or cocktail event those
  648. 21:40kinds of things. Um it's a great chance
  649. 21:42to if you do feel like you need to
  650. 21:44purchase a new dress I would suggest
  651. 21:47something that like you can wear again.
  652. 21:49Um, I'm always about like a staple item.
  653. 21:51So, think about that, but don't feel
  654. 21:53like you have to buy something new. I
  655. 21:55mean, we see we see students in all
  656. 21:57kinds of stuff. I've seen students wear
  657. 21:59jumpsuits to this event. That's kind of
  658. 22:01fun. Um, so there's lots of different
  659. 22:02things that they can do. And then, like
  660. 22:04I talked about, um, they attend a
  661. 22:07required training session in the morning
  662. 22:08where they talk about their MRABA, which
  663. 22:11if you're like, whoa, that's an acronym.
  664. 22:13Um, I'll be talking about that here in
  665. 22:15just a second. So, we'll cover what that
  666. 22:16looks like. And again, similar
  667. 22:18information that your student will get
  668. 22:19in that training session. And then the
  669. 22:22last kind of piece of bid day is or of
  670. 22:24recruitment is bid day, which is we
  671. 22:26always talk about like Christmas and
  672. 22:27August. It's August 16th. Uh the
  673. 22:30students have the whole day free until 4
  674. 22:32p.m. That's when bids are distributed
  675. 22:34and we don't do it uh kind of in a
  676. 22:37common space. Our bids are distributed
  677. 22:39in dorm rooms. So students living uh
  678. 22:42off-campus again we'll have a space for
  679. 22:44them to come o to campus to open their
  680. 22:46bids together and same thing for
  681. 22:48traditions because the traditions dorms
  682. 22:50are a little further away from campus.
  683. 22:53We are going to be renting a room for
  684. 22:55students to open those bids together
  685. 22:57mainly so that they don't have to run
  686. 22:59like a mile and a half to the Greek
  687. 23:00housing area. We don't want to do that
  688. 23:02to anyone. I mean I know we probably got
  689. 23:04some extra stars but that feels like a
  690. 23:06lot. So, uh, I suggest parking in the
  691. 23:09Dale Hall parking lot or kind of near
  692. 23:11the residence halls. I think that's
  693. 23:13probably the best bet for families that
  694. 23:15are coming to bid day. Um, and then,
  695. 23:17yeah, students are given their t-shirt
  696. 23:19and their bid card before they run home.
  697. 23:21And when we say run home, they they are
  698. 23:23like literally running in the street. We
  699. 23:25work with uh Norman PD to shut down some
  700. 23:27of the streets in Norman. Um, it is a
  701. 23:29sight to see. It's very fun. And I get a
  702. 23:32lot of questions from parents and
  703. 23:33families like, "Do I need to be at bid
  704. 23:34day?" I wouldn't say that you need to be
  705. 23:36there. Um, a lot of families do come. We
  706. 23:39have a lot of students from Oklahoma and
  707. 23:41Texas and so it's not as crazy far of a
  708. 23:44drive, but uh, but I mean we have
  709. 23:46students from all over the country and
  710. 23:48some families just can't make it back,
  711. 23:50you know, that close to move in day. So
  712. 23:52don't feel bad if you can't make it. It
  713. 23:54is really not the end of the world. The
  714. 23:56students, how it works, they get their
  715. 23:57bid in their dorm room. They physically
  716. 23:59run to the chapter house and families
  717. 24:02will meet them there. And so we always
  718. 24:03tell students, you need to tell your
  719. 24:05family where you're going because we
  720. 24:07don't post the list anywhere. Mainly for
  721. 24:10safety reasons, right? Like we don't
  722. 24:11want to tell everyone in the world where
  723. 24:13your student is going to be at what
  724. 24:14time. That feels pretty unsafe. So you
  725. 24:17tell your student to text you, call you,
  726. 24:19whatever. Um and then we suggest meeting
  727. 24:21them at the chapter house. Some chapters
  728. 24:23will do like a parent and family meeting
  729. 24:25on bidday. Some chapters it's a Zoom
  730. 24:27later. Um it's really kind of up to the
  731. 24:29organization. So, if your if your uh
  732. 24:32student, you know, wants you to be
  733. 24:33there, totally great. Just know that you
  734. 24:35probably won't see them a ton that day.
  735. 24:37We see some pictures being had and then
  736. 24:39the girls like to go off and meet all
  737. 24:41their new pledge sisters. So, um so
  738. 24:43yeah, if you can make it, great. But
  739. 24:45again, if you can't, don't be like, I'm
  740. 24:47the worst parent in the world. No one's
  741. 24:48going to think that. Totally fine. There
  742. 24:50are so many other things that you can be
  743. 24:52doing.
  744. 24:53Okay. Um,
  745. 24:56yes, they for people asking, you will
  746. 24:59have access to this Zoom after this.
  747. 25:00We'll be uh we'll be recording this and
  748. 25:03sharing it online after this.
  749. 25:06Okay, here's the nitty-gritty part. Now
  750. 25:09that we've kind of talked about the the
  751. 25:10different rounds, we're going to go
  752. 25:12through two examples of what selections
  753. 25:15look like, and then I'm going to do a
  754. 25:16bid mashing example so you can see how
  755. 25:18that process works, too. So, here is how
  756. 25:22selections work. After each round of
  757. 25:24recruitment, the students meet either in
  758. 25:26their hall groups, with their hall
  759. 25:28floors, with their small groups,
  760. 25:29whatever. Um, or they come to the Jim
  761. 25:31Thorp Center where our office is during
  762. 25:33recruitment and they make their
  763. 25:35selections either on a computer or a
  764. 25:36cell phone. There's no wrong way, right?
  765. 25:39You can use either device. Um, or an
  766. 25:42iPad if you're an iPad girl. Some people
  767. 25:43are really into that. Um, and we'll have
  768. 25:45staff around to troubleshoot. So, I've
  769. 25:47sent a couple emails about activating
  770. 25:49this thing called an IC account. ICS
  771. 25:51Recruiter is our platform that we use
  772. 25:53for selections. So again, your student's
  773. 25:55not going to need it till August 10th,
  774. 25:57but if they have any issues getting into
  775. 25:58their account, they can just email us
  776. 26:00and we can help them with that.
  777. 26:02Sometimes people are inputting their
  778. 26:03email incorrectly and we can we can
  779. 26:05[clears throat] troubleshoot. Not a huge
  780. 26:06deal, but students will go to all of
  781. 26:09their parties. The chapters meet with
  782. 26:11all of these students and then, like I
  783. 26:13said, each party, the chapter and the
  784. 26:16student are making their selections of
  785. 26:18where they want to go for the next
  786. 26:19round. And so we call those daily
  787. 26:21priorities. That's kind of what the what
  788. 26:23it looks like. So I'm going to orient
  789. 26:25you to what you're seeing on the screen
  790. 26:27here. Um for those again that went to
  791. 26:28Greek preview, this might look familiar
  792. 26:30to you. Although we're not in a giant
  793. 26:32athletics facility, so this is probably
  794. 26:34easier to see. So the what you're
  795. 26:36looking at is what uh selections from
  796. 26:38round one to round two would look like.
  797. 26:41So some reminders. Remember when we go
  798. 26:44to round two P&Ms can visit a maximum of
  799. 26:46eight chapters and chapters are inviting
  800. 26:49people back. M recruitment is a mutual
  801. 26:51selection process and P&M's have to
  802. 26:55maximize their options rounds two
  803. 26:56through four. So that's something that I
  804. 26:58feel like people forget from time to
  805. 27:00time.
  806. 27:02You have to maximize your options. The
  807. 27:03system will not let you save unless you
  808. 27:05maximize because right it's a system
  809. 27:07that is built to match people at the end
  810. 27:09of the day. So how this is going to look
  811. 27:13this this is what the screen will look
  812. 27:15like when your student you know she goes
  813. 27:17to round one she visited all 11 chapters
  814. 27:19we got 11 chapters in a row here and
  815. 27:22then round two is a maximum of eight. So
  816. 27:25she's going to say these are the eight I
  817. 27:26most want to go back to. They're above
  818. 27:28the line. Great. The bottom three the
  819. 27:31ranking matters. So the system reads the
  820. 27:34top eight all as number one. It doesn't
  821. 27:36it there's no differentiation between
  822. 27:38them, but the bottom three do matter.
  823. 27:41So, she's saying, "If I didn't get
  824. 27:43invited back to one of my top eight, one
  825. 27:45is the one I would most want to go back
  826. 27:47to and down the row." So, this is what
  827. 27:50the screen looks like. In the middle of
  828. 27:53the screen, you'll have available
  829. 27:55regret. For U, it'll say 11, right?
  830. 27:58Because we have 11 chapters. This is
  831. 27:59just like the test screen that they show
  832. 28:01us. Um, but your student will like drag
  833. 28:04they'll she'll click it and drag it up
  834. 28:06to selected and click and drag it down
  835. 28:09to rank. And then like this slide, it'll
  836. 28:12have a one, two, and three down here
  837. 28:14when they're in the rank column. So
  838. 28:16she'll drag up her top eight that she
  839. 28:18most wants to go back to on round two.
  840. 28:20Drag down the bottom three. That's like
  841. 28:22if I wasn't invited back, not the end of
  842. 28:24the world. But that rank order is really
  843. 28:26important. So that's kind of what the
  844. 28:29screen will look like. But this is how
  845. 28:30it works. So say your student selected,
  846. 28:34you know, these top eight as the ones
  847. 28:36she most wanted to go back to and Alpha,
  848. 28:39Zeta, Kappa, oopsilon, Kai, and Omocrron
  849. 28:41all invited her back. So great, that's
  850. 28:44awesome. That's what six organizations
  851. 28:46that that's a match. So she'll be back
  852. 28:48at those six on round two. Now, this is
  853. 28:51where we look at the ones that didn't
  854. 28:52invite her back. So we can see that
  855. 28:54Gamma and Omega didn't invite your
  856. 28:56student back. So that's when the system
  857. 28:59starts to look at the bottom.
  858. 29:01So fi is the one again she most wanted
  859. 29:04to go back to out of her bottom three.
  860. 29:07That's great. It's going to fill up to
  861. 29:09fill gamma. Sigh didn't. So it skips
  862. 29:11down to ADA. Ada is going to fill omega.
  863. 29:16So that's kind of how the process works.
  864. 29:18Again, it the system is built to help
  865. 29:21match your student to a chapter at the
  866. 29:23end of the process, but it requires you
  867. 29:25to maximize your options. So I always
  868. 29:27use myself as an example. The group that
  869. 29:30I am a member of um when I went through
  870. 29:32recruitment quite some time ago I you
  871. 29:35know I from a small town in Oklahoma I
  872. 29:38had no idea what to base all of this
  873. 29:39stuff on. I was just like kind of
  874. 29:41looking at vibes. I don't know. And the
  875. 29:43girl I talked to in the chapter that I
  876. 29:45ended up in I just didn't super drive
  877. 29:47with. So I ranked that group number 11.
  878. 29:50It was number three in this my bottom
  879. 29:52three which means it was the group that
  880. 29:53I least wanted to go back to out of all
  881. 29:5511. Well, enough of my top eight didn't
  882. 29:58invite me back that it was like ADA on
  883. 30:01my list. It ended up back on my schedule
  884. 30:03for round two, which is great. I ended
  885. 30:05up becoming a member of that
  886. 30:06organization, right? But I would have
  887. 30:08never known that if I was able to like
  888. 30:09drop a house. The system doesn't allow
  889. 30:12you to drop a house. Okay? So sometimes
  890. 30:15I think that can be really confusing.
  891. 30:17But this process works just like this at
  892. 30:19every school. U is not unique in this.
  893. 30:21It's it's this thing called release
  894. 30:23figure methodology. It's like a whole
  895. 30:25mathematical algorithm. It is wild. Um
  896. 30:28but the the P&M matching and the
  897. 30:30priority system works the same at every
  898. 30:32school. So that's kind of how this
  899. 30:34looks. So after all of that, the left is
  900. 30:37the priorities that your student would
  901. 30:38have submitted, right? The eight she
  902. 30:40most wanted to go back to the rank
  903. 30:42bottom three. And then this is what her
  904. 30:44party schedule looks like after all of
  905. 30:45the matching happens. So hopefully that
  906. 30:48kind of explains how that works. That is
  907. 30:51exactly how it works from round one to
  908. 30:52round two, from round two to round
  909. 30:54three, and round three to round four.
  910. 30:57The numbers just look a little bit
  911. 30:58different. So if this was your student's
  912. 31:01party schedule on round two,
  913. 31:04that's great. She has eight chapters,
  914. 31:06which means she has a full schedule. So
  915. 31:08round three, right, was a maximum of
  916. 31:10five chapters. remember from that other
  917. 31:12slide. So, this is where she would say,
  918. 31:14"Okay, these are the five I most want to
  919. 31:17go back to." And again, she would rank
  920. 31:19her bottom three. But if your student
  921. 31:22only had five parties on round two, then
  922. 31:26she'll just put all five in. It makes
  923. 31:28you maximize your options. There's
  924. 31:29really no selection to be made. Um, and
  925. 31:32you move on. So, it starts to look a
  926. 31:34little bit different depending on how
  927. 31:35many chapters your student is invited
  928. 31:37back to in rounds two, three, and four.
  929. 31:41Okay. So, hopefully that makes sense.
  930. 31:44Um, I'm going to check the chat and see
  931. 31:46if there's anything
  932. 31:49else. There's a couple questions there.
  933. 31:51Okay, perfect. I'll look at the Q& A's
  934. 31:53right at the end and we can answer any
  935. 31:54out loud there. Um, okay. So, like I
  936. 31:57said, the same process happens after
  937. 31:59each round. Round two, again, your
  938. 32:00student can go to a maximum of eight.
  939. 32:02Round three, a max of five. And then
  940. 32:04round four, a max of two chapters. So
  941. 32:07that's kind of how the priorities work
  942. 32:08from rounds two, three, and four. Now
  943. 32:11when we get or rounds into two into
  944. 32:14three into four after round four, it
  945. 32:17looks very different. So this is why we
  946. 32:20do a whole separate training with your
  947. 32:22students the morning of preference
  948. 32:23because I just think it's really
  949. 32:25important that they understand going
  950. 32:26into those parties like what they're
  951. 32:28going to be doing that night, what
  952. 32:29they're going to be signing. And we do
  953. 32:32the same thing for you all. This is why
  954. 32:33we record this um because this can be
  955. 32:35confusing. It's like a lot of jargon,
  956. 32:37right? So, we want to make sure everyone
  957. 32:38kind of knows what they're getting
  958. 32:39themselves into. So, like I mentioned,
  959. 32:42round four looks very different.
  960. 32:45Following preference round that last
  961. 32:46night, I think it's August 15th, it's a
  962. 32:49Saturday, students will come to the Jim
  963. 32:51Thorp Multicultural Center, which is
  964. 32:52where our office is during recruitment
  965. 32:54to sign their MRABA. Remember that
  966. 32:56acronym from earlier. So, that stands
  967. 32:59for membership recruitment acceptance
  968. 33:01binding agreement. The key word here is
  969. 33:03binding. Okay. So, we're going to kind
  970. 33:06of go over what that looks like.
  971. 33:07Whenever you sign your Emir, you have
  972. 33:10three kind of options that you can do.
  973. 33:13Now, remember, all throughout
  974. 33:14recruitment, you have to maximize your
  975. 33:16options. Preference night is the one
  976. 33:18time that you do not have to maximize. I
  977. 33:20think we would suggest it, but you don't
  978. 33:22have to. So, you have kind of three
  979. 33:25options here. You can either maximize
  980. 33:26your options, which means you're
  981. 33:28guaranteed to match to a chapter. So, if
  982. 33:30you get a party scheduled on preference
  983. 33:33and you maximize your options, you are
  984. 33:35guaranteed a chapter on bid day. Very
  985. 33:37exciting. It's the only time during
  986. 33:38recruitment that you're guaranteed a
  987. 33:40chapter. You can either maximize, you
  988. 33:42can intentionally single preference one
  989. 33:44chapter and we will go through that, but
  990. 33:46you're not guaranteed a match there.
  991. 33:48That is we make sure students know when
  992. 33:51they're doing that there is a a
  993. 33:53possibility of them not matching or you
  994. 33:56can withdraw from recruitment. Now, you
  995. 33:58can withdraw from recruitment at any
  996. 33:59time. Sometimes students get there and
  997. 34:02they go through one or two rounds and
  998. 34:03they're like, "You know what? This was a
  999. 34:05lot. This is not for me." Um, seriously,
1000. 34:08no judgment. Our team, we totally get
1001. 34:10it, right? And we will help get your
1002. 34:12student connected in other ways on
1003. 34:13campus if this is not their jam. Um, but
1004. 34:16sometimes students play it through to
1005. 34:18the end and I always suggest that. Play
1006. 34:20it through, go to your prep round
1007. 34:21parties, and then see what you want to
1008. 34:23do. You don't need nothing is binding
1009. 34:25until after preference night and then
1010. 34:28you have to make some decisions when you
  1011. 34:29fill out your MRABA.
1012. 34:31So, we're going to go through some
1013. 34:34examples so you can kind of see what
1014. 34:35this looks like in real time. But on
1015. 34:38preference night when they come to sign
1016. 34:40their MBA, these are some things. These
1017. 34:42are like some outcomes of recruitment.
  1018. 34:44So, there's really four things that
1019. 34:46happen. You can either be matched, which
1020. 34:48means you match with a chapter at the
  1021. 34:50end of the process. You're joining a
1022. 34:51chapter. You can be ISP unmatched. So
  1023. 34:54remember when you I said you
1024. 34:56intentionally are only choosing one
1025. 34:57chapter and you cannot be matched. That
1026. 35:00is like an outcome of recruitment is
1027. 35:02being an ISP unmatched. You can
1028. 35:04withdraw, which means you self- select
1029. 35:06out of the process. Again, it can happen
1030. 35:08at any time. You could decide to self-
1031. 35:10select out in round two. I feel like the
1032. 35:13majority of students that self- select
1033. 35:14out, they do go to their preference
1034. 35:16parties and then they might decide that
1035. 35:17they don't want to follow through with
1036. 35:19it at this time. Not a huge deal.
1037. 35:21um or a student can be released. So
1038. 35:25being released means that the student
1039. 35:27would not be invited back to any
1040. 35:29chapters. This only happens rounds two
1041. 35:31through four. So like I mentioned, when
1042. 35:34the recruitment guides bring around the
1043. 35:36party schedules in the mornings to the
1044. 35:37dorm rooms, we do have a very small
1045. 35:40number of students who are what's known
  1046. 35:42as a complete release. And I only talk
1047. 35:44about this not to scare people. Like
  1048. 35:46that is never my intention. I just I'm
1049. 35:49someone who cares about transparency,
1050. 35:51about being open and honest. I think
1051. 35:52being clear is kind. And so we try to be
1052. 35:55really clear about making sure that
  1053. 35:57everyone knows being released is a
1054. 36:00possibility for any student during
1055. 36:01recruitment, right? That means that they
1056. 36:03would not be invited back by any
1057. 36:05chapters. And so whenever that happens,
1058. 36:08we give your student a call or go to
1059. 36:09their dorm room to tell them before the
1060. 36:11party schedules come out. I mean, we
1061. 36:14would never like hand them a blank piece
1062. 36:15of paper. That's crazy. We would never
1063. 36:17do that. So we, you know, we follow
1064. 36:19through with a lot of care in that way
1065. 36:20and then I continue to follow up with
1066. 36:22those students throughout the year um
1067. 36:24just to make sure that they're good
  1068. 36:25because I think that can be really a
  1069. 36:27hard experience for them. And so I I
1070. 36:29care about students a lot. Um but again,
1071. 36:32not saying that this is going to happen.
  1072. 36:33I don't know. I I'm not the one in the
  1073. 36:35chapters making determinations of
1074. 36:37membership. Um but know that that is an
1075. 36:40a possibility for students. So, at the
1076. 36:42end of the recruitment process, these
1077. 36:44are kind of the four um outcomes that a
1078. 36:47student could have. They could be
1079. 36:48matched, ISP unmatched, they could
1080. 36:50withdraw, or they could be released.
1081. 36:53So, we're going to kind of go through
1082. 36:54some bid matching examples so you can
1083. 36:56see. Um some things to know because I
1084. 36:58think this process can be really
1085. 37:00confusing. Um but I I like to show it
  1086. 37:03just so I think people can see what's
1087. 37:04going on, right? So, some things to
1088. 37:06know. Um, on previous rounds of
1089. 37:10recruitment, chapters are inviting back
1090. 37:12students or not inviting back students.
1091. 37:14That's kind of all it is. After
1092. 37:17preference round, after prefite, the
1093. 37:19chapters are ranking the full list of
1094. 37:21students who attended their parties that
1095. 37:23day. So, it's not really an invitation
  1096. 37:25list. It's a ranked list. One through
1097. 37:28200, 300, however many people were at
1098. 37:30their house. Quota is the same for every
1099. 37:33chapter. So, if you've heard about quota
1100. 37:35before, I'm going to show you how that
1101. 37:36works. We take the number of MRABAs
1102. 37:39signed on prefide by 11 because remember
1103. 37:43again we have 11 chapters. So quota is I
1104. 37:47mean we won't know it till pre night
1105. 37:48right because we won't know how many
1106. 37:49students are left in the process. Um
1107. 37:52some students decide to withdraw some
1108. 37:54might be released like I mentioned. Um
1109. 37:56so we take the total number of MBAs
1110. 37:58signed we divide by 11. So again if
  1111. 38:01you're like oh my god there's 1,700
1112. 38:03people signed up for recruitment. It
  1113. 38:05doesn't mean that there's fewer spots.
1114. 38:07It just means the new member classes are
1115. 38:08going to be larger. So, it's all like
  1116. 38:10percentage based. Don't don't stress too
1117. 38:12much about the number signed up for
1118. 38:14recruitment. So, I'm going to give you
1119. 38:16some highlevel examples of how the bid
1120. 38:18matching process works just so you can
1121. 38:20kind of see. I think the big things to
1122. 38:22note, um, there is a computer system
1123. 38:24that's doing this in real time and it's
1124. 38:27doing this for 11 organizations and like
1125. 38:30a thousand plus P&Ms all at once. So
1126. 38:32what what I show you here like is just
  1127. 38:34an example. So don't don't take it too
  1128. 38:36literally. Um but I think it's kind of
1129. 38:38cool to see how it works, you know,
1130. 38:40person by person. So um a couple of
1131. 38:43things to know. Not every chapter has
1132. 38:45the same number of P&Ms on prefound. So
1133. 38:47just like students are selecting
  1134. 38:48chapters, chapters are selecting
1135. 38:50students. So this is kind of what you're
1136. 38:52looking at here. You're looking at two
1137. 38:53chapters, alpha and beta. And you can
1138. 38:55see alpha only has seven people, but
1139. 38:57beta has eight. So this is like an
1140. 39:00example that not every chapter has the
1141. 39:01same number of P&Ms coming back to each
1142. 39:04round of recruitment. And again,
1143. 39:05chapters are ranking their full list of
1144. 39:07P&M. So this is a ranked list one
1145. 39:09through however many. Panalytic sets
1146. 39:11quota. In this example, quota is set at
1147. 39:14three. That's what this red line across
1148. 39:16the screen is for. And again, this is
  1149. 39:18just an example, so don't don't read too
1150. 39:20much into it, but hopefully this kind of
1151. 39:21helps visualize what this looks like. So
1152. 39:24we're going to look at the student on
1153. 39:25the top of the list, Vicha. Visha is
1154. 39:28obviously awesome. She went to alpha and
1155. 39:30beta chapter and they both loved her.
1156. 39:31They both ranked her number one. So, as
1157. 39:34we go through these, kind of guess in
1158. 39:35your head like where you think Vicha is
1159. 39:37going to end up. We know that she's
1160. 39:39matched. This is she maximized her
  1161. 39:41options. So, Vicha's preferences. She
1162. 39:44prepped alpha first, beta second. So,
1163. 39:48where do we think she's going to end up?
  1164. 39:50Remember, recruitment is a mutual
  1165. 39:52selection process. So it doesn't really
1166. 39:55matter what her number was on the list.
1167. 39:57It just matters that she was above the
1168. 39:59quota line. So the system doesn't really
1169. 40:02care that she was number one on both
1170. 40:03chapters lists. It just cares that she's
1171. 40:06above number three, above quota. So this
1172. 40:09is where begin like I said mutual
1173. 40:11selection. The system is going to look
1174. 40:13at Vicha's first choice and match her
1175. 40:16with that because she's above the quota
1176. 40:17line for that chapter. So Vicha is going
1177. 40:20to match with alpha. So then you can see
1178. 40:23she gets crossed off on beta beta's list
1179. 40:26and the quota line starts to move for
1180. 40:28beta because some she matched somewhere
1181. 40:30else. So now quota for beta is further
1182. 40:33down that list. So quota the quota
  1183. 40:36number doesn't move but as students
1184. 40:38match elsewhere the line starts to move
1185. 40:41down their list. So we'll look at Naomi
1186. 40:44next. Naomi um she's again in the same
1187. 40:46spot on both chapters list. She's ranked
  1188. 40:48number two.
  1189. 40:50Again, like Vicha, doesn't really
1190. 40:52matter. She prefed beta first, alpha
  1191. 40:55second. She's above the quota line
  1192. 40:57because it's mutual selection process.
1193. 40:59She is going to match with Beta because
  1194. 41:02she prepped Beta first
1195. 41:05and the line begins to move again. Kelly
1196. 41:08is our next example. So, Kelly again,
1197. 41:11she has both. She's going to match with
1198. 41:13the chapter because she maximized her
1199. 41:15options. She will 100% match. So, Kelly
1200. 41:18prepped beta first and alpha second. Um,
1201. 41:22where is Kelly on this list? So, Kelly
  1202. 41:24wanted to be a beta. She's not on beta's
  1203. 41:28list, right? She's somewhere past number
  1204. 41:30eight. Maybe she's number 10, number 11,
1205. 41:33whatever. Um, she prepped beta first,
1206. 41:36alpha second. But this is where you can
1207. 41:38see she's above the quota line for
1208. 41:40alpha. So, because she's above the quota
1209. 41:42line, she didn't match with beta. So the
1210. 41:44system tries to give you the best option
1211. 41:47possible. It's going to match you with
1212. 41:49your second preference. So this is where
1213. 41:53it's really important that when your
1214. 41:54student is making her selections on
  1215. 41:56preference.
1216. 41:58If she absolutely positively would not
1217. 42:01be in her preference to organization, I
1218. 42:05wouldn't put it on that paper because
1219. 42:06you're then bound to that chapter for a
  1220. 42:08year.
1221. 42:09Most students, I would say the vast
1222. 42:11majority of students that go through
  1223. 42:12recruitment, they're like, "All of these
1224. 42:14chapters are awesome. I would be happy
1225. 42:16in any of them. I'm putting them all
  1226. 42:17down. That's great." And so that's what
1227. 42:19Kelly did. She wanted beta first, alpha
1228. 42:22second. She matched with alpha for her
1229. 42:25second choice, but like at the end of
1230. 42:27the day, she maximized her options and
1231. 42:29she's going to match, right? So because
1232. 42:31she was below the quota line for beta,
1233. 42:33but above for alpha, she matches with
  1234. 42:35her second option.
  1235. 42:38Okay, we'll keep moving with some
1236. 42:40examples here. Sam, um Sam is my
  1237. 42:42experience during recruitment. I only
1238. 42:44had one chapter on preference night. So,
1239. 42:48it was a really easy decision for me. It
1240. 42:50was like, do I want to be in a sorority
1241. 42:51or not, right? Like, not which sorority
1242. 42:53do I want to be in? So, Sam preference
  1243. 42:55beta. Um she's awesome. She's above the
  1244. 42:58quota line, but it actually doesn't
  1245. 43:00matter. She doesn't have a second
1246. 43:01preference because she was only invited
1247. 43:03to one event. And so no matter where she
  1248. 43:05is on beta's list, she's going to match.
1249. 43:08So sometimes if chapters know that your
1250. 43:10student only has their organization,
1251. 43:12they might put her towards the bottom of
  1252. 43:13their list because regardless, she's
1253. 43:14going to match with their organization.
1254. 43:16So when students come to sign their
1255. 43:18MRABA and they only have one preference
1256. 43:20on their card, we do a whole celebratory
1257. 43:23dance because we know where she's going
1258. 43:24to go on bidday. It's really exciting.
  1259. 43:26So that's always a really fun time. So
1260. 43:28again, Sam is going to match with Beta
1261. 43:30uh because that was her one preference
1262. 43:33on that round. Okay. Daria is the
1263. 43:36opposite of Sam. So Daria went to two
1264. 43:39events, but she decided to ISP
  1265. 43:42intentionally single preference.
1266. 43:44So she went to both chapters, she
1267. 43:47prepped beta, and she left that second
1268. 43:50option open. And whenever this happens,
1269. 43:53the students have to come physically
1270. 43:54talk to me. like if your student decides
1271. 43:56to ISB, I'll be talking to her on
1272. 43:58preference. Um, and I'll say, "Hey, you
  1273. 44:00know, you know, you're not guaranteed a
1274. 44:02bid tomorrow." We just we have like
1275. 44:04three or four checkpoints just to make
1276. 44:05sure that they know because sometimes I
1277. 44:07think students can get confused, right?
1278. 44:08So, we make sure that they know, but
1279. 44:10Daria, she preferenced Beta. She left
1280. 44:13that second option open. She got pretty
1281. 44:15lucky. She's above the quota line, so
1282. 44:17she's going to match with Beta. Very
  1283. 44:19exciting.
1284. 44:21Rachel, not so lucky, right? So Rachel
1285. 44:24prepped beta. She wants to be in beta.
1286. 44:26She's below the quota line. So the
1287. 44:29system can't match her to alpha because
1288. 44:31there is no second preference. And so
1289. 44:34Rachel would be known as what's called
1290. 44:35an ISP unmatched, right? She's below the
1291. 44:38quota line. There's no other chapter to
1292. 44:39match her to. She did not maximize her
1293. 44:41options. And so she would wake up on
1294. 44:43bidday with her rogue gamma calling her
  1295. 44:46saying, "Rachel, I'm so sorry you didn't
1296. 44:48match with the the chapter that you ISPD
1297. 44:50last night. you are eligible to join
1298. 44:53through continuous open bidding or an
  1299. 44:56informal recruitment process which I'll
1300. 44:57talk about here in a second. Um but
1301. 45:00that's kind of an outcome that they can
1302. 45:01have. So we again we make sure that they
1303. 45:03know what they're doing when they make
1304. 45:04that decision. But I think like anything
1305. 45:07it's got to be their decision, right? I
1306. 45:10ask students all the time who are
1307. 45:11between do I maximize, do IP? At the end
1308. 45:14of the day, if you would absolutely
1309. 45:17rather not be in a sorority than be in
1310. 45:19that second chapter, then maybe ISPing
1311. 45:22is the right answer for your student.
  1312. 45:23And that's okay. Like, we're going to
1313. 45:25support them no matter what they choose.
1314. 45:27It just needs to be a choice that she is
1315. 45:29comfortable with and can live with
  1316. 45:30knowing that like there is a a
1317. 45:32possibility of not matching on bid day.
  1318. 45:36Okay. Anya
1319. 45:38outcome, right? She went to her prep
1320. 45:40events. She was like, "You know what?
1321. 45:41This was really fun. I met some awesome
1322. 45:43people. maybe this isn't for me decides
1323. 45:45to withdraw from recruitment. So her
1324. 45:48MRABA, she still comes to Jim Thorp to
1325. 45:50fill it out, but her MABA will be blank
1326. 45:52and she'll click the box that says
1327. 45:53withdraw from recruitment. And like uh
1328. 45:56Rachel before her, Anya is also eligible
1329. 45:59for COB. So she can go through an
1330. 46:02informal recruitment process even if she
1331. 46:04decides she doesn't want to do that um
1332. 46:06like on bid day. Not a huge deal.
1333. 46:09So she would be unmatched.
1334. 46:12Okay, I think this is the last example.
  1335. 46:14So, if you're sitting here thinking,
1336. 46:15well, what if my student maximized but
1337. 46:18is below the quota line for both
1338. 46:20chapters, then what? Right? You said she
1339. 46:22was guaranteed a bid. What would happen?
1340. 46:24So, Hie is a good example. She prepped
  1341. 46:26alpha first, beta second, but she's
1342. 46:29below the quota line on both chapters.
1343. 46:31So, we know that she's going to match.
  1344. 46:33So, she is what's known as a quota
  1345. 46:34addition. And so, I go in, it's a
  1346. 46:36totally blind process. Um, I go in, I
1347. 46:39look at the students first prep, but I
1348. 46:41can't see their names. I can only see a
1349. 46:43number and I say, "Okay, she wanted to
1350. 46:45be in alpha." If there's a ton of quote
1351. 46:47editions for alpha, I might put her in
1352. 46:49beta. But I always try to put students
1353. 46:51in their first preference. Um, again,
1354. 46:53for that mutual selection process. So,
1355. 46:55it's just kind of how the numbers shake
1356. 46:57out. But something that's good to know
1357. 46:59is if your student was a quota addition,
  1358. 47:01she would never know. Again, it's a
  1359. 47:03number. It's not a name. Um, and so I
1360. 47:06could probably look it up, but I would
1361. 47:07never do that. Um, so it's one of those
1362. 47:09things where your student would never
1363. 47:11know that she was a quota addition. She
1364. 47:13could fall just below the quota line.
1365. 47:14The chapter would never know. They don't
1366. 47:16know either. So, um, you know, they
1367. 47:18don't know how far their line is moving
1368. 47:20when people match to other chapters. So,
1369. 47:21that's all happening kind of in the dead
1370. 47:23of night. Um, but it's a good time. So,
1371. 47:26that's kind of hopefully this explains
1372. 47:27and shows how the bid matching process
1373. 47:29works. Again, these are those four
1374. 47:31outcomes that we talked about earlier.
1375. 47:33So hopefully you can see how that
1376. 47:34happens in real time. A student either
  1377. 47:36matches, they withdraw, they're an ISP
  1378. 47:39unmatched, or they're released during
1379. 47:41the process. So those are the four
  1380. 47:43outcomes.
1381. 47:44Um, we talked a little bit about
  1382. 47:46informal recruitment. Um, I'll mention
1383. 47:48more of that here, but again, the formal
  1384. 47:50recruitment process, it's designed to
1385. 47:52match students to chapters, and I hope
1386. 47:53you can see that through the examples
1387. 47:54that we just did. It's the only time of
  1388. 47:57year that all 11 panelic organizations
  1389. 47:59recruit. It's fully structured. The
1390. 48:01panelinic association uh facilitates the
1391. 48:04whole process. But there is another way
1392. 48:06that students can join the community.
1393. 48:08It's called informal recruitment or
1394. 48:10continuous open bidding. You might hear
1395. 48:11it called COB. Um that takes place in
1396. 48:14the fall and the spring semesters. Only
1397. 48:17about half the groups in our community
1398. 48:18get to join. So we we basically set this
1399. 48:21number called um chapter total and it's
1400. 48:24either the median or the average chapter
  1401. 48:26size. And so if a chapter's below that
1402. 48:29number, they can recruit up to that
1403. 48:30number. So it kind of just kind of
1404. 48:32depends like if a chapter had a lot of
1405. 48:34girls, you know, go to nursing school
1406. 48:36and they decided to deactivate or maybe
1407. 48:39they had some students transfer or
1408. 48:41whatever. It could be a million reasons.
1409. 48:43Um if they fall below the median chapter
1410. 48:46size, they can recruit in the spring
1411. 48:48back up to that number. It happens in
1412. 48:50the fall, too. Um, I would say we have
1413. 48:53way fewer people joining through COB in
1414. 48:55the fall than in the spring, but again,
1415. 48:57it's an option and this process is
1416. 48:59totally unstructured. Chapters drive it
1417. 49:02100%. Um, we give them a list of
1418. 49:05students who withdrew or were released
1419. 49:07or went ISP unmatched from recruitment
1420. 49:09and they can reach out from there. They
  1421. 49:11can also recruit people who weren't
1422. 49:13didn't go through recruitment at all. So
1423. 49:15any student who is not a member of
1424. 49:17panelinic is eligible to join through
1425. 49:20COB. Um and basically chapters fill out
1426. 49:23bid acceptance forms and they give them
1427. 49:25to us. So I I have nothing to do with
1428. 49:27this process other than adding students
1429. 49:29to the roster and bas basically like
  1430. 49:31verifying that they're an enrolled
1431. 49:32student. Um so yeah, the the COB process
  1432. 49:35is really loose. It's really
1433. 49:37unstructured. Um and chapters can decide
1434. 49:40if they want to recruit or not. So, I
1435. 49:42think sometimes students think, "Oh,
  1436. 49:44I'll just like, you know, I'll I'll do
1437. 49:46COB." Always an option, but sometimes
1438. 49:49that option is more limited, I think,
1439. 49:51than they maybe think it is. So, I'll
1440. 49:53kind of show you what that looks like.
1441. 49:55These are our statistics from last year.
1442. 49:58So, um, these are all of our 2025 stats
  1443. 50:01from recruitment. This is something I
1444. 50:03feel like parents and families always
1445. 50:04have questions about and students, too.
1446. 50:07And we'll go over this with them at
1447. 50:08orientation so they know. But at the end
1448. 50:11of the process uh we well we started the
  1449. 50:14process last year with 1572 recruitment
1450. 50:17participants. By the end of the process,
  1451. 50:201340 were matched and 232 were
1452. 50:23unmatched. So again, we talked about
1453. 50:25those unmatched stats. These are the
1454. 50:27three ways you can be unmatched. You can
1455. 50:29be completely released, you can
1456. 50:30withdraw, or be an ISP unmatched. So as
1457. 50:34you can see in this little pie chart uh
1458. 50:36you know about 85% of students joined at
1459. 50:39the end of the process which is great.
1460. 50:42When we look at unmatched data um this
1461. 50:44pie chart is the 232 students that were
1462. 50:49unmatched. So if you're looking at that
  1463. 50:51release number and you're like 6% it's
  1464. 50:54less than 1% of all P&Ms were released.
1465. 50:57It was 15 students last year but 6.5% of
1466. 51:01all the unmatched students at the end of
1467. 51:03the process. So again of the 232
1468. 51:07students who were unmatched at the end
1469. 51:08of recruitment last year all but about
1470. 51:101% had the option of continuing again.
  1471. 51:13So like I mentioned 15 were completely
1472. 51:16released. Those were the about 1% that
1473. 51:18didn't have the option to continue.
1474. 51:20Maybe they wanted to maybe they didn't.
  1475. 51:22I don't I don't know every student's
1476. 51:24experience. Um, but there are again
1477. 51:27there are students that are released
1478. 51:28from our process every year. Um, and it
  1479. 51:31happens at every school. So, I just I
1480. 51:33again I don't want to make it seem like
1481. 51:35it is going to happen to your student. I
1482. 51:37don't know. But I I just want people to
  1483. 51:39know that that is a possibility.
1484. 51:42Um, last year we had 166 students
1485. 51:44withdraw from the process for a variety
1486. 51:47of reasons. Sometimes the process itself
1487. 51:49is not for them. Sometimes they weren't
1488. 51:51happy with the invitations they had
1489. 51:53back. We had students withdraw because
1490. 51:55they were worried about the financial
1491. 51:57commitment, the time commitment. They
1492. 51:59decided like in the middle of August to
1493. 52:02go to school somewhere else. I mean,
  1494. 52:03there's a million reasons, right, why
  1495. 52:05somebody would withdraw from
1496. 52:06recruitment. Um, but those students
1497. 52:08self- selected out. So, they were not
1498. 52:10released, but they self- selected out of
1499. 52:12the process. And then 51 students were
1500. 52:15ISP unmatched. So, they intentionally
1501. 52:18only picked one chapter on their MABA
1502. 52:21and they were not matched to that
  1503. 52:23chapter.
1504. 52:24So, these are kind of the breakdown of
1505. 52:26the released again of the with uh
  1506. 52:28unmatched. Gosh, I'm like reading words.
1507. 52:30Um, so again, I hope you can see like
1508. 52:32the vast majority of students are self-
1509. 52:34selecting out of the process. Um, and
  1510. 52:37again, not a huge deal if that's what
1511. 52:39you want to do. Totally get it. If your
1512. 52:41student calls you during recruitment and
  1513. 52:43she's like, "Well, I think I'm just
  1514. 52:45going to withdraw and I'll just COB." I
1515. 52:48I feel like these stats are helpful. And
1516. 52:50we the rec recruitment guides, the
1517. 52:51rogamas, they will have this same
1518. 52:53information in their booklet because
1519. 52:55students tell us this every year.
1520. 52:56They're like, I'm just going to withdraw
1521. 52:58and then I'll just do COB. Last year,
  1522. 53:01like I mentioned, we had 166 students
  1523. 53:03withdraw from recruitment. About 32% of
  1524. 53:06those 66
1525. 53:08ended up joining through COB throughout
1526. 53:11the entire school year. So, some
1527. 53:13students maybe they decided they want to
1528. 53:15withdraw and they didn't want to be in a
1529. 53:16sorority anyway. Totally fine. and
1530. 53:18there's like a million other clubs that
1531. 53:19they could join on campus. Um, but I
1532. 53:22think it's important to know that like
1533. 53:24we will always support your student.
1534. 53:25We're always going to support her
1535. 53:26decision, but when you withdraw from
  1536. 53:28recruitment, there is a risk. I mean,
1537. 53:30that's [clears throat] the only time
  1538. 53:31that all 11 groups are recruiting
1539. 53:33throughout the year. And so, by
  1540. 53:36withdrawing and saying, "Well, I'll just
1541. 53:37COB." Um, sometimes it works out, but
  1542. 53:40sometimes it doesn't, you know, and so I
1543. 53:42just think it's good to know what the
  1544. 53:44stats are. um that 32% of those 166
1545. 53:49ended up joining through COB throughout
1546. 53:50the school year. And how we do COB
  1547. 53:54because we're a big campus, right? We
1548. 53:55want to help connect students and
1549. 53:56chapters together. Uh we have this like
1550. 53:59interest form that students can fill
1551. 54:00out. But of all of the students that
1552. 54:03filled out that form, only about 20%
  1553. 54:05were extended a bid. So again, I I just
1554. 54:08think sometimes students think that this
1555. 54:10is like a good second option for them,
1556. 54:11and for some people it is. Um, but the
1557. 54:14numbers are not always what they think
1558. 54:15it's going to be. So, just got to make
  1559. 54:18some decisions. Um, but that's where
1560. 54:20keeping an open mind is really
  1561. 54:22important. We talk about this a lot. I
1562. 54:24think going in with just saying, "I want
1563. 54:26to be in this one organization." It's
1564. 54:28pretty unrealistic. So, always help
1565. 54:30remind your students that keeping an
1566. 54:31open mind from start to finish um is so
1567. 54:34important. That's one of the best ways
1568. 54:35that you can support them. And I think
1569. 54:37too at the end of the day, like
1570. 54:38recruitment is supposed to be fun.
  1571. 54:40>> [laughter]
1572. 54:40>> Like I think sometimes people can really
1573. 54:42get lost in this. Um they are your
1574. 54:45students are already enough without
1575. 54:47this, right? The letters in these
  1576. 54:49chapters are great. They're going to
  1577. 54:50supplement your students college
1578. 54:52experience, but your student is already
1579. 54:54enough without this. Like this is not
1580. 54:56going to make them something that
1581. 54:58they're not. And so I think sometimes,
  1582. 55:00yeah, like I mentioned, students, I
1583. 55:02think, can just get lost in all of this.
1584. 55:03Um, but I think the more that they can
1585. 55:06keep an open mind, remember that it's
1586. 55:08supposed to be fun. Um, you know, you
1587. 55:10can help provide them with some
  1588. 55:11perspective that this doesn't define
  1589. 55:13their self-worth. I just think that's
1590. 55:15really important as a family member and
  1591. 55:16as a parent. Um, okay, we're kind of
  1592. 55:19nearing the end here. I think I only
  1593. 55:20have a few more slides. So, like I
  1594. 55:22mentioned, I think some stats are
1595. 55:24important. So, these are full versus
1596. 55:26party uh full versus partial party
1597. 55:29schedules from last year. So, I pulled
1598. 55:31our numbers from last year for each
1599. 55:32round. student kind of see. So when your
1600. 55:35student wakes up on round two and she
  1601. 55:37maybe doesn't have all eight parties
1602. 55:39because remember you can go to a maximum
1603. 55:40of eight. Not a huge deal, right? Only
1604. 55:4435% of P&M's had all eight parties.
1605. 55:47Totally fine. I had five that round,
1606. 55:50right? Like it is not the end of the
1607. 55:51world to not have all eight. And if your
1608. 55:54student is one of those who has all
1609. 55:56eight, something I would remind her, do
1610. 55:59not be that girl that's like I had to
1611. 56:01run from North to South Creek. I'm
1612. 56:03exhausted, right? Because her roommate
1613. 56:05might be someone who only had four or
1614. 56:06five parties. So, I think the humble
  1615. 56:08brag situation's not like a super good
1616. 56:10look. Um, so like any experience, right?
1617. 56:13We got to keep keep our mind in a good
1618. 56:16place. Um, I just think those are some
1619. 56:17good things to remember. So, these were
1620. 56:19the stats for last year. For round two,
1621. 56:22only 35% of students had eight parties
1622. 56:24or full party schedule. For round three,
1623. 56:26it's like a little more half and half.
1624. 56:28So half the group had about five, the
1625. 56:31full party schedule. The other half um
1626. 56:33had a partial party schedule. Again, not
1627. 56:36a huge deal, right? So if she wakes up
1628. 56:37on round three, doesn't have all five,
1629. 56:40okay, it is totally okay. She's going to
1630. 56:42be just fine. And then prep is a little
1631. 56:44different. So most people on preference,
  1632. 56:47about 96% last year, had a full party
1633. 56:50schedule, which is two parties. Um, like
  1634. 56:52I mentioned, when I went through
  1635. 56:54recruitment, I only had one. So, I was
1636. 56:56in that special 3.5%. Um, but every
  1637. 56:59every student's a little bit different.
1638. 57:00So, again, not a huge deal. If your
1639. 57:03student has one party on preference and
1640. 57:05she wants to be in that sorority, she's
  1641. 57:07guaranteed, right? She's going to
1642. 57:08maximize that option. It's going to be
1643. 57:10great. So, that's kind of what the party
1644. 57:11breakdown looks like. And then lastly,
  1645. 57:14because I know we're nearing the hour
1646. 57:15here, um, these are just some things I
1647. 57:18feel like is good for families to
  1648. 57:19remember. I think during recruitment,
  1649. 57:21you are a support system. You're a
  1650. 57:22sounding board. You're someone who's
1651. 57:24going to celebrate your student. Um, and
  1652. 57:26then from our end, you're a partner and
1653. 57:28a friend. I think at the end of the day,
1654. 57:30if you if your student calls you and
1655. 57:32you're like, I do not know what to say
1656. 57:34right now. You can call me like I am at
1657. 57:37the office during recruitment. I talk to
1658. 57:38parents all day every day and I'm so
1659. 57:41happy to help explain what's going on,
1660. 57:44to give you some peace of mind. Um, I'm
1661. 57:47happy to [clears throat] do any of that.
1662. 57:48So, whatever you need, like know that I
1663. 57:51am a partner in this for you. Um,
  1664. 57:53because like I said at the beginning, I
1665. 57:54think this process can be really foreign
1666. 57:56to a lot of people. Um, and so if you
1667. 57:59need help like deciphering what is going
  1668. 58:01on or she's saying words that you're
1669. 58:03like, "Girl, what are you talking
1670. 58:04about?" Like, I can help with some of
1671. 58:05that stuff. Um, so you're always welcome
1672. 58:07to call our office. Um, but know that
  1673. 58:10during recruitment, I think my biggest
1674. 58:11advice for you all is like ask your
  1675. 58:14student what she needs. Sometimes she's
1676. 58:16just going to need you to listen. And
1677. 58:19sometimes she might want advice, but I
1678. 58:21mean, you know, you were you had a
  1679. 58:22parent once. Um, there's nothing worse
1680. 58:24when you just want to vent and then
1681. 58:26someone's giving you advice, but you
1682. 58:27don't want it. So, ask her what she
1683. 58:29needs. This is like the first time that
1684. 58:31some of these students are making a big
1685. 58:33decision. Um, so yeah, I think you know,
1686. 58:36you play a really important role during
1687. 58:37recruitment is what I want to say. Um,
  1688. 58:39and I know that you're fully equipped
1689. 58:42for the process. Um, one way that you
1690. 58:45can support your student during
  1691. 58:46recruitment, you've probably seen this
1692. 58:47if you're in our Facebook group, is by
1693. 58:49ordering some fun gifts from our
  1694. 58:51vendors. We've got some really awesome
1695. 58:52panelinic vendors. And so for some
1696. 58:54parents who are maybe not in the area or
  1697. 58:56like I want to support my student, I
1698. 58:58want to give her a little pickme up
1699. 58:59during the week. Um, these vendors also
1700. 59:02have like gifting processes that we
1701. 59:04have. So, we'll deliver the gift to your
1702. 59:06student. So, if that's the way you want
  1703. 59:07to support your student, that's great.
  1704. 59:09If you're a family member who's more
1705. 59:11about writing a little note for each day
1706. 59:12of recruitment, you can do that. Um, I
  1707. 59:15think there's a lot of ways to support
1708. 59:16your student, but this is one way if
  1709. 59:18you're into,
1710. 59:20you know, a little pickme up throughout
  1711. 59:21the week. That's always a fun thing. And
1712. 59:24then, yeah, we're nearing the end, but
1713. 59:26listen to your students triumphs and
  1714. 59:28frustrations. I think this process can
1715. 59:29be confusing, but it's also just like
  1716. 59:32really fun. It's really exciting. Um,
  1717. 59:34understand that it's your student's
1718. 59:36experience. If you were in a sorority or
  1719. 59:38fraternity, that's awesome. Even from
  1720. 59:41when I joined, you know, I think it's
  1721. 59:43really different. So, know that it's
  1722. 59:45your students experience and it's a
1723. 59:46really great time for them to grow, to
1724. 59:48learn, to try new things in a really
1725. 59:50caring environment. Um, and then, yeah,
1726. 59:53like the slide says, I think just being
1727. 59:54intentional in your conversations is
  1728. 59:57important. I think sometimes you're
1729. 59:58going to want to fix it for them. And
1730. 1:00:00some of this stuff we just can't fix,
1731. 1:00:02right? this might be the first time your
1732. 1:00:04student has ever faced rejection in her
1733. 1:00:06life. And if so, like, wow, what a
1734. 1:00:08charmed life to have lived. Um, but
1735. 1:00:11there's going to be other times in life
1736. 1:00:12that she's told no. And I think if this
  1737. 1:00:15is the first time it's happening, it's a
1738. 1:00:17great experience to learn, to try new
1739. 1:00:20things, but to have people to support
1740. 1:00:23her. So whether it's her roommate, her
1741. 1:00:25roama, myself, you, like there are
1742. 1:00:28people who are going to support her
1743. 1:00:29through that. Um, and know that you've
1744. 1:00:31prepared your students and taught them
1745. 1:00:33to make these tough choices. Like you
1746. 1:00:35have done all the things you need to do
1747. 1:00:37and now you get to kind of sit back and
1748. 1:00:38watch the fruits of your labor. Um, and
  1749. 1:00:41watch these students thrive. I think
1750. 1:00:42it's just a really fun time. So, at the
1751. 1:00:45end of the day, our students, our
1752. 1:00:46office, the office of student life, this
1753. 1:00:48is our motto. You belong here.
1754. 1:00:49Everything we do is about helping
1755. 1:00:51students find belonging on campus.
1756. 1:00:53Fraternities and sororities really offer
1757. 1:00:54that for a lot of students. Um, but
1758. 1:00:57yeah, hopefully this was helpful for you
1759. 1:00:59all. This is our contact information
1760. 1:01:01during recruitment. You can always reach
  1761. 1:01:03us at panelinico.edu.
1762. 1:01:06This is our office line during
1763. 1:01:07recruitment. So, we move a phone down to
1764. 1:01:09the office. Um, you can reach us there.
1765. 1:01:11And like I said, our office, we move it
1766. 1:01:13from the union to this building called
  1767. 1:01:15the Jim Thor Multicultural Center. It's
1768. 1:01:17just south of the residence hall. So,
1769. 1:01:19we're down on the south side of campus.
1770. 1:01:21So, if you want to swing by on a move in
1771. 1:01:22day or during recruitment, um even if
1772. 1:01:25you want to drop off a little gift or a
1773. 1:01:27little note or something for your
1774. 1:01:28student, we're happy to get it get it to
1775. 1:01:29her if you want to surprise her. Um
1776. 1:01:32we're happy to do that. But hopefully
1777. 1:01:34this was helpful. And again, we'll be
1778. 1:01:35posting this online. So, if you want to
1779. 1:01:37go back and watch anything, look at the
  1780. 1:01:38slides. I'll post the slides separately,
1781. 1:01:41too, like as a PDF so you have it. Um
1782. 1:01:44but hopefully this was helpful. So, I'm
1783. 1:01:46going to look at the chat now. And if
1784. 1:01:48you got to go live your lives, folks,
  1785. 1:01:50please
1786. 1:01:51feel free to do that. Um,
  1787. 1:01:54oh wow, answered 53.
1788. 1:01:57Hannah and Andy are truly killing it.
  1789. 1:02:00Um, okay. So, a couple of things. I'm
1790. 1:02:02going to kind of read through these and
1791. 1:02:04see if there's any we want to answer out
  1792. 1:02:05loud.
  1793. 1:02:07Uh,
1794. 1:02:08let's see. If we wanted to send notes,
1795. 1:02:10where would we send them? Um, you can
1796. 1:02:13bring them to our office on move in day.
1797. 1:02:15We're happy to get them to your student
1798. 1:02:16there. or you can send them to uh you
1799. 1:02:20can send them to the Jim Thor
1800. 1:02:21Multicultural Center, too. Either way,
  1801. 1:02:23it's totally fine.
1802. 1:02:25Will these Q&As's be sent out after the
  1803. 1:02:27call? That's a great question. Uh we can
  1804. 1:02:30dump them into a Word doc. I think we'd
1805. 1:02:32be happy to do that. I got to figure out
1806. 1:02:33how to do that without
1807. 1:02:35losing them when the call is over. But
1808. 1:02:37yes, Kathy, we will we will work on
  1809. 1:02:40that.
1810. 1:02:41Where will this be reposted? We'll be
1811. 1:02:44posting this on the Panalinic website.
  1812. 1:02:46It's pan like a frying pan, pan.edu.
  1813. 1:02:49And then you'll click a little thing
  1814. 1:02:50that says how to join. There's a whole
1815. 1:02:52section about formal recruitment. Um,
1816. 1:02:55and then I'll also be sharing it on uh
1817. 1:02:57the parent Facebook page as well. So,
1818. 1:02:59we'll share it in both places. But
1819. 1:03:01there's a little drop down on the formal
  1820. 1:03:03recruitment section. Actually, I can
1821. 1:03:05just show you. [laughter] Let me just
1822. 1:03:08let me just do that. Um, on our website,
1823. 1:03:11I'm really hoping everyone can still see
1824. 1:03:13my screen. pan.edu edu is right there.
1825. 1:03:17Um, if you go to down here, join
  1826. 1:03:20panelinic,
1827. 1:03:22it'll take you to this page. I always
1828. 1:03:24click this little guy, jump to formal,
1829. 1:03:27and then where it says parent and family
  1830. 1:03:28resources, I'll post the video just
1831. 1:03:31right here below it. So, that's where
1832. 1:03:33I'll post that. Great question.
1833. 1:03:37Okay, let me keep looking at these and
1834. 1:03:38see if there's any more we want to
  1835. 1:03:40answer out loud.
  1836. 1:03:42um
1837. 1:03:45answered that. Can you give a breakdown
1838. 1:03:48of timing for Saturday the ETH? Of
  1839. 1:03:50course. Um it's actually on this
  1840. 1:03:51website, too.
  1841. 1:03:53So, it's a great question. Um on the 8th
1842. 1:03:57under schedule, uh so our students will
1843. 1:04:01all move into the residence halls the
1844. 1:04:036th and the 7th. And then on the 8th,
1845. 1:04:05this is like the orientation day. Some
  1846. 1:04:07schools call it convocation.
1847. 1:04:09We don't really call it that, but you
1848. 1:04:10can call it that if you want. We're
  1849. 1:04:12easy. So, in the morning at 10:00 a.m.
1850. 1:04:14is our mandatory orientation at Lloyd
1851. 1:04:16Noble Center. And this is just for
1852. 1:04:18students, like parents. We won't see any
1853. 1:04:20parents at this event. This is why we do
1854. 1:04:22this webinar ahead of time. Um, I think
  1855. 1:04:25it'll end a little earlier than 11:30,
1856. 1:04:27but, you know, just to be safe. And then
1857. 1:04:29they'll have a pretty big lunch break.
1858. 1:04:31So, if they want to go eat uh really
1859. 1:04:34anywhere on campus, they'd be able to do
1860. 1:04:36that. But a lot of students might want
1861. 1:04:38to go explore Norman with their
1862. 1:04:39roommates, you know, all that kind of
1863. 1:04:40fun stuff. In the afternoon, there's we
1864. 1:04:43have these mandatory training rotations.
1865. 1:04:45Um, the last email that your student got
1866. 1:04:48from me, I think it was maybe like not
1867. 1:04:50this Friday, but the Friday before or
  1868. 1:04:52something like that. I can't remember
1869. 1:04:52the exact date I sent that email. It had
1870. 1:04:54the the time um Oh, wait, no, that
1871. 1:04:58that's for prep day. We haven't set
1872. 1:04:59we've been waiting on the housing office
1873. 1:05:01to send us um housing assignments. So,
1874. 1:05:04uh we'll be assigning one of the time
1875. 1:05:05blocks. So, the blocks are either from 2
  1876. 1:05:07to 3 or 3:30 to 4:30. Um, if you're a
  1877. 1:05:10student, I've had a couple of questions
1878. 1:05:12for students needing to fulfill their
1879. 1:05:14Sunday obligation. Um, like for like
  1880. 1:05:16religious reasons. So, if that's the
1881. 1:05:18case, email us and we can assign you to
1882. 1:05:20the one that makes most sense with your
  1883. 1:05:22religious obligation. Um, those
1884. 1:05:25trainings are different than the ones at
1885. 1:05:26Camp Crimson. Our board of regents
1886. 1:05:29requires that Greek students do a Greek
1887. 1:05:31specific training and so this would
1888. 1:05:33fulfill her any mandatory training that
1889. 1:05:35she would need to do for Greek life. Um
1890. 1:05:37she can knock that out there. So again
  1891. 1:05:39the sessions are from 2 to 3 or 3:30 to
1892. 1:05:434:30 and they're just in Dale Hall and
  1893. 1:05:45we're going to have a fun little pop-up
1894. 1:05:46shop like that slide mentioned earlier
1895. 1:05:49um with all of our vendors and so she
1896. 1:05:50can do some shopping. We'll have snow
1897. 1:05:52cones. Um, and then that evening they'll
1898. 1:05:55have their final meeting before round
1899. 1:05:56one starts with their hall floor groups.
1900. 1:05:59So, very exciting. Hopefully that helps
  1901. 1:06:02for the eighth.
  1902. 1:06:04Perfect.
1903. 1:06:05Haven't received any emails about gifts.
1904. 1:06:07How do I make sure I'm on the mailing
1905. 1:06:09list? If that's something if you could
1906. 1:06:11email either myself or the panelinic
1907. 1:06:13email, we can make sure that your email
1908. 1:06:15is correct in the system. Sometimes when
1909. 1:06:17students are registering, they type they
  1910. 1:06:19like mistyped parent emails. Um, I've
  1911. 1:06:22also had a lot bounce back. Maybe it's
  1912. 1:06:24like a U email thing. I'm not sure. Um,
1913. 1:06:26but I can double check for you if you
  1914. 1:06:28want to go ahead and that's a question
1915. 1:06:29from Heather. If you want to email us,
1916. 1:06:31we can double check that for you.
1917. 1:06:35Um, okay. What's the Facebook page? Uh,
1918. 1:06:39it's on this website, too. If you go to
1919. 1:06:42parent and family resources, you can
1920. 1:06:44click this link and it'll take you right
  1921. 1:06:46to our Facebook page. So, that's a good
1922. 1:06:48place if you know if you have a
  1923. 1:06:49question, there's probably a lot of
1924. 1:06:51other people that have that question,
1925. 1:06:52too. Um, so you can definitely uh you
1926. 1:06:55can ask that there and we're happy to
  1927. 1:06:57answer them.
1928. 1:06:59Perfect. Let me see what else.
1929. 1:07:03We answered the Facebook question.
1930. 1:07:06Do they drive to the Lloyd Noble Center
1931. 1:07:08on the morning of the ETH? They totally
1932. 1:07:10can. If your students living in
  1933. 1:07:11traditions, honestly, it's a pretty
1934. 1:07:13close walk. But the rest of the the rest
1935. 1:07:15of the dorms, like no one will be moved
1936. 1:07:17in yet, so there should be plenty of
1937. 1:07:19parking. So, if they want to, you know,
1938. 1:07:20carpool down there with their roommates
  1939. 1:07:22and maybe go, I don't know, go on a
1940. 1:07:24Sonic run or grab lunch together or
  1941. 1:07:26something after, that's totally fine.
1942. 1:07:28Um, they are able to do that. Same thing
  1943. 1:07:31with parking. I've I've got a lot of
1944. 1:07:33questions about parking. Um, whatever
1945. 1:07:36parking pass you have purchased for the
1946. 1:07:38school year, it will work during
  1947. 1:07:39recruitment. I know the dates don't say
1948. 1:07:41that they will, but we've worked out
1949. 1:07:43something uh with the parking office.
1950. 1:07:45So, totally fine there. Nothing to
1951. 1:07:47stress about. Oh my gosh, someone making
  1952. 1:07:49a 67 joke.
  1953. 1:07:51Wow, that's hilarious. So, good. Okay,
1954. 1:07:54I'm gonna keep moving. Is the office
1955. 1:07:56address on your website or is there a
1956. 1:07:58specific office address for gifts? Um, I
  1957. 1:08:02do not have I'll
1958. 1:08:04Hannah, since you're going to be in the
1959. 1:08:06office tomorrow, will you make a note
1960. 1:08:07for me to add the Jim Thorp address to
1961. 1:08:09our website? I will forget. Thank you
1962. 1:08:12for doing that. Um, so we will we'll
1963. 1:08:14post that. The Jim Thorp building is in
1964. 1:08:16a strange place. It it's kind of in the
1965. 1:08:18middle of a parking lot, so we will uh
1966. 1:08:21we'll work that out for you. But great
  1967. 1:08:22question.
1968. 1:08:25Um, oh, this is Sandra says, "My
1969. 1:08:28daughter's roommate decided not to
1970. 1:08:29attend OU. She just found out last week
1971. 1:08:31she will be roommateless, so during
1972. 1:08:33rush. Is it possible to find someone
1973. 1:08:34else in this situation?" Probably.
  1974. 1:08:37Something else that we haven't mentioned
1975. 1:08:38today, um, we do these things called PNM
1976. 1:08:41programs kind of during before
  1977. 1:08:44recruitment. And so, it's a chance for
1978. 1:08:46the students going through the process
1979. 1:08:47to get to know each other. So, we'll do
1980. 1:08:49like an outdoor movie night. Um, we're
1981. 1:08:52doing like a pajama party kind of thing
1982. 1:08:54at the Jim Thorp Center. So, some fun
  1983. 1:08:55stuff throughout the process. So, she's
1984. 1:08:57going to meet some other folks. Um, but
1985. 1:09:00that's really why we do hall floor
1986. 1:09:02groups so that even if your roommate's
1987. 1:09:04not going through recruitment, someone
1988. 1:09:06on your hall floor will be and you can
1989. 1:09:08meet some other folks that way, too. Um,
  1990. 1:09:10so I know that's like kind of stressful,
1991. 1:09:11Sandra, but know that she's going to
1992. 1:09:13have some other people around her and at
1993. 1:09:16the least she's going to have some
1994. 1:09:17recruitment guides who are there to
1995. 1:09:18support her while she meets some other
1996. 1:09:20students. So, um, nothing too crazy
1997. 1:09:22there, so don't stress too much about
  1998. 1:09:23that, but that's a great question.
1999. 1:09:28Um, okay. Can you please list the dates
2000. 1:09:31and hours we could drop off labeled rush
2001. 1:09:33gifts at the office? Definitely. We we
2002. 1:09:36our vendors, we tell them that they need
2003. 1:09:38to have their gifts to us by 2 p.m. each
2004. 1:09:40day. Um, so if that's possible, that
2005. 1:09:44would be great. But, you know, we get
2006. 1:09:45life happens. Um, so yeah. So, if that's
2007. 1:09:48something we can do, we're happy to do
2008. 1:09:49that. But we'll post whenever we post
2009. 1:09:51the uh the address we can put some
2010. 1:09:54information about that there too.
  2011. 1:09:58Perfect.
2012. 1:09:59Okay, I think that is all the questions
2013. 1:10:01that we have in there. Let me check the
2014. 1:10:03chat and then we should be pretty good.
  2015. 1:10:08Um
  2016. 1:10:11okay, actually I'm say I say that
2017. 1:10:14there's like five more questions that
2018. 1:10:15just popped in here. Uh, can you provide
  2019. 1:10:18some reasons why a P&M would get
2020. 1:10:19released? This is the hardest question I
  2021. 1:10:21get asked during recruitment because I
2022. 1:10:23don't always know the answer. Um,
  2023. 1:10:26sometimes it's grades, right? Like
  2024. 1:10:28sometimes chapters, um,
2025. 1:10:31you know, they have grade requirements
2026. 1:10:33to become a member, to be initiated, and
  2027. 1:10:35so sometimes that's a reason why
2028. 1:10:37somebody can get released. Um, sometimes
2029. 1:10:40people maybe don't say some of the
2030. 1:10:42nicest things during recruitment and it
  2031. 1:10:44gets around. Uh, I think that's
2032. 1:10:46something that's good to know is like
2033. 1:10:49this community as big as it is, right?
  2034. 1:10:51There's almost 4,000 women in these 11
2035. 1:10:53chapters at the end of the day like um
  2036. 1:10:56yeah, there's there's students that are
2037. 1:10:58going to be um that know each other and
2038. 1:11:01are talking to each other. So, I would
2039. 1:11:03just really recommend to your student if
2040. 1:11:04she has thoughts about chapters, maybe
  2041. 1:11:06she didn't drive with a chapter, totally
2042. 1:11:08fine, but keep those thoughts to
  2043. 1:11:11herself, right? because someone's big
2044. 1:11:13sister might be in another chapter,
  2045. 1:11:15someone's cousin,
  2046. 1:11:17whatever. Um, I think the biggest
2047. 1:11:19mistake that students can sometimes
  2048. 1:11:21make, is they'll they'll leave a chapter
  2049. 1:11:24and they'll talk into their phone,
2050. 1:11:25whether they're talking to you, to their
2051. 1:11:28voice notes, whatever. Sometimes they
2052. 1:11:30record video so that they can like go
2053. 1:11:31back and watch it later. Um, but I think
2054. 1:11:34when you talk out loud to your phone
  2055. 1:11:36like that, if you're like, "Wow, I
2056. 1:11:37really hated that chapter." I mean, what
2057. 1:11:39if the girl next to you loved it and her
2058. 1:11:41older sister is in that chapter and
2059. 1:11:43she's like, "Man, this girl next to me
2060. 1:11:44just talked to so talked really badly
  2061. 1:11:46about your chapter." Right? That that's
2062. 1:11:48where I think it can start to spread.
  2063. 1:11:50So, I always tell P&M's, it's great to
2064. 1:11:52keep your thoughts to yourself. This
2065. 1:11:54process is very personal. Um, and what
2066. 1:11:57you like, someone else might not like,
  2067. 1:12:00vice versa. So, that's another reason
2068. 1:12:02why somebody can get released. Um, and I
2069. 1:12:05think sometimes too I have seen in
2070. 1:12:08recent years sometimes students will be
  2071. 1:12:10released. Um,
2072. 1:12:13like I think if you have a hard time
  2073. 1:12:15holding a conversation, I think that can
2074. 1:12:17be a reason because sometimes it can
2075. 1:12:19come off as that you don't care when we
  2076. 1:12:22know that that's not true, right?
2077. 1:12:23Sometimes this process like people just
2078. 1:12:26do not shine in and that's okay. But I
  2079. 1:12:29think yeah, sometimes if a student has a
  2080. 1:12:31hard time holding a conversation or
  2081. 1:12:32maybe struggles with eye contact, I
2082. 1:12:35think that can be a struggle piece
2083. 1:12:37sometimes because chapters again read
2084. 1:12:38that as well, she's not interested in
2085. 1:12:41us, so like why would we invite her
  2086. 1:12:42back? So again, I think if that's
2087. 1:12:44something that your student struggles
2088. 1:12:45with, you know, I think practice like
2089. 1:12:47really practice on those conversations,
2090. 1:12:49practice talking about themselves, those
2091. 1:12:51things can really help. Um, so hopefully
  2092. 1:12:53that helps answer. I think I just the
  2093. 1:12:55the easy answer is I don't know because
2094. 1:12:58[laughter] students are released every
  2095. 1:12:59year and sometimes I'm like I wonder why
  2096. 1:13:01that happened. I mean I wasn't in the
2097. 1:13:02parties with them. Um but yeah, I I just
  2098. 1:13:05it's it's hard. It's never an easy
  2099. 1:13:07experience. Um and again I just I cannot
  2100. 1:13:10say it enough. I don't want to scare
2101. 1:13:11people but I also want to be open and
2102. 1:13:13transparent that it does happen, right?
2103. 1:13:16And so I think you know I think about
2104. 1:13:18the parents of those 15 students from
  2105. 1:13:20last year. like there's nothing wrong
2106. 1:13:22with your daughter if she is released.
  2107. 1:13:25Sometimes, again, like I said, people
2108. 1:13:26just don't shine in this process. Um,
  2109. 1:13:29and there, like I said, there's so many
2110. 1:13:31other ways to get involved on campus.
2111. 1:13:33So, I know it's hard to think like that,
2112. 1:13:35but those are the parents I'm I feel for
2113. 1:13:37and I'm always happy to talk it out.
  2114. 1:13:39Even if it's just me listening, I'm
2115. 1:13:41happy to to do that.
  2116. 1:13:43Great question. Um,
2117. 1:13:47let me go back through here. I feel like
2118. 1:13:49we got almost everything. Some of the
2119. 1:13:52earlier questions in the chat were um
  2120. 1:13:56Oh,
  2121. 1:13:59talking about rush bags, y'all. I got to
2122. 1:14:02say about the rush bags, they will be on
2123. 1:14:04the ground outside of the chapter houses
2124. 1:14:06and inevitably it rains every year. I
2125. 1:14:09will never forget one year I was driving
2126. 1:14:11down Shiakwa Avenue. It floods like
  2127. 1:14:14crazy and I saw um like a designer
2128. 1:14:16handbag floating down the street. It was
2129. 1:14:18the craziest thing I ever saw. So the
2130. 1:14:21bags do not need to be fancy. They're
2131. 1:14:23not going inside the house. They stay
  2132. 1:14:24outside. There's a recruitment guide who
2133. 1:14:26stays there to watch. Um so they'll
2134. 1:14:29they'll leave it outside, but if you
2135. 1:14:31know she wants to bring a brush or
2136. 1:14:32makeup or whatever to touch up cuz she
2137. 1:14:34going to get sweaty. Um she can do that.
2138. 1:14:36She can leave it in the rush bag outside
  2139. 1:14:38the house. It's not a huge deal.
  2140. 1:14:41Okay,
  2141. 1:14:42great questions. Um,
2142. 1:14:45would the student know if they are above
2143. 1:14:47the quota line to select preference one?
2144. 1:14:51No, they would not. That happens all at
2145. 1:14:53the same time. So like chapters are
  2146. 1:14:55making their ranked list, P&M's are
  2147. 1:14:57making selections. The P&M is never
2148. 1:15:00going to know where she is on a chapter
2149. 1:15:01list. And if a chapter member tells her
2150. 1:15:04you're above the quota line, she does
2151. 1:15:06not know. Okay, I cannot stress that
2152. 1:15:08enough. We will tell your student that
2153. 1:15:09over and over again. The general member
2154. 1:15:12in a chapter does not know where your
2155. 1:15:15student is on the quota list on that bid
2156. 1:15:17list. They do not know. So sometimes
2157. 1:15:20people try to mind game it. You cannot
2158. 1:15:22you you cannot mind game this process.
  2159. 1:15:24Okay. So just know that that's that's
  2160. 1:15:26helpful.
  2161. 1:15:28Um [sighs and gasps]
2162. 1:15:29okay, great. Sounds like we have some
  2163. 1:15:32good questions.
2164. 1:15:34through all the rounds, did they still
2165. 1:15:35rank the three bottom houses for each
2166. 1:15:37round? It kind of depends on how many
2167. 1:15:39chapters they were invited back to. So,
2168. 1:15:42if they, you know, from going into round
2169. 1:15:45three to round four, if they only had
2170. 1:15:47three chapters, then they would just
2171. 1:15:48move all up to the selected option. So,
2172. 1:15:51it just kind of depends on how many they
2173. 1:15:53were invited back to. But, typically, if
2174. 1:15:55you have a full party schedule, you will
2175. 1:15:57be putting some at your like bottom
  2176. 1:15:59list.
  2177. 1:16:01Great questions. What's the dress code
2178. 1:16:03for August 8th? Comfy. Comfy. You do not
2179. 1:16:06need to dress up. Most people are going
  2180. 1:16:08to be in like a t-shirt because we're
2181. 1:16:10going to be sweaty. Um, so totally
2182. 1:16:12comfy. I feel like the matching sets are
2183. 1:16:15really big right now. Whatever they want
2184. 1:16:16to wear, they can wear. Our team will be
  2185. 1:16:18in our panelic t-shirts. We'll be sweaty
2186. 1:16:20together. It will be great.
2187. 1:16:23And then, yeah, last question in here um
  2188. 1:16:26about updated GPA. We don't necessarily
2189. 1:16:29get those from the admissions office. U
  2190. 1:16:32mainly because it's like a furpa thing.
2191. 1:16:34So if you want to update your student's
2192. 1:16:36GPA or if she wants to update it, she
2193. 1:16:37can just email us her updated eighth
2194. 1:16:39semester GPA that like her final GPA
2195. 1:16:41with the eighth semester and we're happy
2196. 1:16:44to to update that for her. If you can, I
2197. 1:16:46would try to do that before like August
  2198. 1:16:494thish.
2199. 1:16:50Um after that date, the chapters kind of
2200. 1:16:53are deep in it. So we try to help them
  2201. 1:16:55with their paperwork.
2202. 1:16:57Okay, great questions, guys. This was
2203. 1:16:59hopefully this was helpful. Um, I feel
2204. 1:17:01like the questions were really, really
2205. 1:17:03great this year, love. Um, but again, I
2206. 1:17:05think at the end of the day, if you have
  2207. 1:17:07additional questions, if you're like,
2208. 1:17:09man, what is going on? Call me anytime.
2209. 1:17:13You can call. Uh, well, I say anytime
2210. 1:17:15once recruitment starts. I will be at
2211. 1:17:17the office most of the time. Um, before
2212. 1:17:19then, you're probably going to catch me
2213. 1:17:21a little bit easier with an email, but
2214. 1:17:22I'm trying to stay on top of the emails.
2215. 1:17:24I'm I'm getting there. Uh, but yeah, if
2216. 1:17:26you have questions, like, we are so
2217. 1:17:28happy to help. There's no dumb question.
2218. 1:17:30we're never going to judge you. So, let
2219. 1:17:31us know what we can do for you and um
2220. 1:17:34yeah, we're just really excited for your
  2221. 1:17:36students. It's a really fun season of
2222. 1:17:38life and we can't wait to watch them
2223. 1:17:41thrive and make new friends and all the
2224. 1:17:43good things. So, let us know what we can
2225. 1:17:44do for you. But we really appreciate you
2226. 1:17:46guys and um yeah, and if you need
  2227. 1:17:49anything, let us know.
  2228. 1:17:54I'm gonna stop recording
2229. 1:17:58if I can figure out how to do that.
  2230. 1:18:03There we go.
