  1. 0:00hello everyone welcome back to another
  2. 0:02session by k21 academy today our expert
  3. 0:06trainer will be talking about openshift
  4. 0:08architecture so let's get into the
  5. 0:11learning so everybody knows about the
  6. 0:13kubernetes cluster what is there in the
  7. 0:14kubernetes cluster guys you have
  8. 0:17master nodes
  9. 0:19and as well as you have something called
  10. 0:21as worker nodes
  11. 0:25okay so where do we
  12. 0:28deploy our workload is it on the
  13. 0:32masternode or worker nodes
  14. 0:34it is on
  15. 0:36worker nodes guys right
  16. 0:39so
  17. 0:40this is your kubernetes cluster right
  18. 0:42we will not go into the detailing of it
  19. 0:45so same same
  20. 0:47same thing like this guys we have
  21. 0:49uh in the open shift you required
  22. 0:52nodes to deploy loads to deploy the
  23. 0:55workload
  24. 0:56you require master node
  25. 0:59so same same to same thing is available
  26. 1:01in the openshift cluster also you see
  27. 1:03this diagram guys
  28. 1:05right can you see you have a master node
  29. 1:06here
  30. 1:09and you have this worker nodes where
  31. 1:11ports are deployed
  32. 1:13you have mongodb pod or you have apache
  33. 1:16or tomcat or mysql whatever it is it is
  34. 1:18there
  35. 1:19but one thing you should uh see here
  36. 1:21guys that is change something like that
  37. 1:23they are saying you can use only rhel or
  38. 1:26atomic
  39. 1:30this this is not available on the other
  40. 1:32uh
  41. 1:33platforms right guys it is available on
  42. 1:35this one either you can deploy on the
  43. 1:37centos but it was supported little bit
  44. 1:39earlier now you need to you deploy the
  45. 1:42rhel
  46. 1:43or atomic operating system what is this
  47. 1:45atomic operating system
  48. 1:50that is red hat core operating system
  49. 1:52guys rhcos red hat core operating system
  50. 1:57now this radar core operating system is
  51. 2:00a operating system which is used by the
  52. 2:02openshift
  53. 2:03and interestingly
  54. 2:05you cannot modify this
  55. 2:07it is immutable
  56. 2:10so whatever you deploy on the top of
  57. 2:12this one it will be deployed on the red
  58. 2:14hat
  59. 2:15this is one of the feature guys in the
  60. 2:16kubernetes which were some of some
  61. 2:19people were deploying the kubernetes on
  62. 2:20the linux red hat linux somebody is
  63. 2:22deploying on the same device somebody's
  64. 2:24deploying in the ubuntu
  65. 2:26so support was not there from the red
  66. 2:28hat operating as because these are the
  67. 2:30all open source team right
  68. 2:32and as a proper enterprise level support
  69. 2:35was not available with that particular
  70. 2:39operating systems but with this uh with
  71. 2:41this particular red hat core operating
  72. 2:43system and if you are deploying your
  73. 2:44application as
  74. 2:46on the open shift red hat supports you
  75. 2:48use the support for okay to the
  76. 2:50enterprise level applications
  77. 2:52so we have one you can deploy your
  78. 2:54openshift
  79. 2:55nodes or master node on the red hat
  80. 2:57enterprise linux operating system or it
  81. 2:59is called as another operating system
  82. 3:01called as it is called as atomic
  83. 3:02operating system but nothing but
  84. 3:04rhcos
  85. 3:05core operating system so this is one of
  86. 3:07the major thing major change you can see
  87. 3:10from the
  88. 3:10uh
  89. 3:11kubernetes uh
  90. 3:14cluster environment and the openshift
  91. 3:16environment you will find these
  92. 3:17operating systems which are immutable
  93. 3:20so you cannot modify it you cannot take
  94. 3:22a control of the operating system guys
  95. 3:24kubernetes openshift will manage it for
  96. 3:27you
  97. 3:28and you can deploy this all the you can
  98. 3:30deploy the parts on this node and you
  99. 3:31have a master nodes here but
  100. 3:34and yes you have
  101. 3:36these layers
  102. 3:39similar like your kubernetes platform
  103. 3:41you you can deploy it on the physical
  104. 3:43virtual private public cloud
  105. 3:46you have a service layer to expose the
  106. 3:48application to the outside
  107. 3:50like the service which we have created
  108. 3:51we we have seen
  109. 3:53like
  110. 3:54a load balancer service or not port
  111. 3:56service or cluster ip service this is
  112. 3:59also available inside this kubernetes
  113. 4:01inside the openshift container platform
  114. 4:03but on the top of that they have come up
  115. 4:05with the one nice
  116. 4:06ingress controller stuff
  117. 4:09additional
  118. 4:11routing layer so in the kubernetes you
  119. 4:13need to deploy the ingress controller
  120. 4:15separately
  121. 4:17so that
  122. 4:18multiple so that
  123. 4:20traffic can be diverted to the different
  124. 4:22applications
  125. 4:23in openshift
  126. 4:25this comes
  127. 4:26in built okay you can use hf they are
  128. 4:29using h a proxy h a proxy as a ingress
  129. 4:32controller here
  130. 4:35right so what happens with the help of
  131. 4:37there is a service layer but on the top
  132. 4:39of that you have a ingress controller
  133. 4:41such as your one routing layer and this
  134. 4:43routing layer helps you too
  135. 4:46routing layer is very closely integrated
  136. 4:48with your dns services so that it will
  137. 4:51directly generate one link for you
  138. 4:54and you can access the application
  139. 4:55directly so just give the code developer
  140. 4:58will give the code
  141. 5:00there are a lot of ci cd and automation
  142. 5:01tools are there
  143. 5:02okay you can integrate that with these
  144. 5:04particular nodes and finally you will
  145. 5:06get the one nice link which you can give
  146. 5:08it to the customer
  147. 5:12and additionally you have persistent
  148. 5:13storage so if you understood the
  149. 5:14kubernetes this is very easy to
  150. 5:17understand but if you don't if you if
  151. 5:19you are not aware about this one guys
  152. 5:20don't worry this is not difficult to
  153. 5:22understand so this is the this is the
  154. 5:25data plane where your containers will be
  155. 5:27hosted and this is the master node which
  156. 5:30will manage this
  157. 5:32worker
  158. 5:34it is almost same to same architecture
  159. 5:36available but with routing layer is
  160. 5:38there
  161. 5:39additional services are there
  162. 5:41and
  163. 5:42these are the some of the ci cd pipeline
  164. 5:44can be integrated easily with this
  165. 5:46openshift platform
  166. 5:49okay friends and
  167. 5:51let me just
  168. 5:54take you to the one more architecture
  169. 5:56which will help you to understand yes
  170. 6:00so same thing but little bit at higher
  171. 6:02side you can say
  172. 6:04uh look at this
  173. 6:07you have this
  174. 6:09uh infrastructure you can deploy this
  175. 6:11open shift on your physical machines
  176. 6:13virtual machines
  177. 6:15private cloud you have cloud native
  178. 6:16services also
  179. 6:19then on the top of that container run
  180. 6:20timing engine is running
  181. 6:23it provides networking storage
  182. 6:25registry is one thing which is not
  183. 6:27available in the kubernetes level
  184. 6:29it has its own registry guys
  185. 6:32where you can it will store the images
  186. 6:35we can create a logs it also has a log
  187. 6:38and metrics and security features
  188. 6:40so you have container orchestration and
  189. 6:42cluster management on the top of that
  190. 6:44application lifecycle management is also
  191. 6:46done you have build automation
  192. 6:48deployment automation service catalog is
  193. 6:50there
  194. 6:51self services then on the top of that
  195. 6:52you can have a containers running
  196. 6:54so yes guys you have
  197. 6:56almost everything but integrated with
  198. 6:59lot of other services too
  199. 7:02okay
  200. 7:03so what are the features of
  201. 7:04openshift
  202. 7:06so
  203. 7:07yes it does give you the high
  204. 7:09availability
  205. 7:10it is a it is using a lightweight
  206. 7:12operating system called as rhel core os
  207. 7:16it provides you the load balancing it
  208. 7:18does the automatic scaling for you
  209. 7:20logging and monitoring services are
  210. 7:22present
  211. 7:24you it is very easy to do the service
  212. 7:26discovery you have integrated storage
  213. 7:28boxes storages are available like all
  214. 7:31classes and everything application
  215. 7:33management and you can also do the
  216. 7:34cluster accessibility and along with
  217. 7:36that you see here you have rh
  218. 7:39rh cos
  219. 7:41container engine is there on the top of
  220. 7:42that cube and it is there
  221. 7:44and on the top of that you have a
  222. 7:45cluster services such as
  223. 7:49over the air updates
  224. 7:51that is called as ot
  225. 7:54and
  226. 7:54you have monitoring registry
  227. 7:57networking routers
  228. 7:59routing mechanism everything is
  229. 8:01integrated as a cluster services here
  230. 8:03and on the top of that as a platform
  231. 8:05services or application services and
  232. 8:07developer services you can integrate
  233. 8:09that inside the radar openshift platform
  234. 8:12such as service mesh
  235. 8:15that is for serverless builds right ci
  236. 8:18cd pipeline full stack logging
  237. 8:20okay for the application you have
  238. 8:22databases runtimes
  239. 8:24lot of things are there guys you have
  240. 8:25also code ready workspaces you can use
  241. 8:28that um
  242. 8:30space to develop your code inside the
  243. 8:33openshift container platform only guys
  244. 8:35you have ids and everything is plugged
  245. 8:38in okay and so that is why it's really
  246. 8:42really beautiful so it use the container
  247. 8:44engine so kubernetes engine and on the
  248. 8:46top of that
  249. 8:47it is
  250. 8:48deploying your containers
  251. 8:50along with the
  252. 8:51lot of management tools
  253. 8:55so this is actually a internal
  254. 8:57architecture of the openshift guys if
  255. 8:58you see
  256. 9:00this is your uh
  257. 9:02huber net is right i know that everybody
  258. 9:04you know most of you know about it right
  259. 9:05kubernetes it has master not cube api
  260. 9:09server is there controller manager is
  261. 9:10there shadow there is their etcd cubelet
  262. 9:12is there and your container engine
  263. 9:16and what is the other parameters they
  264. 9:18have added from the openshift so they
  265. 9:20have taken in this kubernetes as it is
  266. 9:22but they have created their own api
  267. 9:24server so cube api server and the open
  268. 9:26shift api server talk to each other
  269. 9:30and as well as you get a authentication
  270. 9:32oauth is there some other authentication
  271. 9:34is also there and similar like cube
  272. 9:37controller manager we have openshift
  273. 9:38controller manager too
  274. 9:40and one more additional feature which is
  275. 9:42also available on the
  276. 9:44uh your kubernetes that is called as a
  277. 9:46core dns
  278. 9:48but here this little bit core dns is
  279. 9:50quite interesting
  280. 9:52uh
  281. 9:53it it closely monitors the dns features
  282. 9:55in the openshift because
  283. 9:57it requires for the hf proxy in this
  284. 9:59controller
  285. 10:02so this is actually you should uh
  286. 10:05think about this architecture this is
  287. 10:07important
  288. 10:09so
  289. 10:10the way we deploy the uh application in
  290. 10:13the kubernetes by using the power
  291. 10:16same thing is here in the open sheet
  292. 10:19we deploy the application by using the
  293. 10:20deployment
  294. 10:21same thing is in the openshift but there
  295. 10:23is one more thing that is called as a
  296. 10:24deployment config
  297. 10:26deployment is also there deployment
  298. 10:28config is also there
  299. 10:30additional object
  300. 10:32so guys this was our expert from team
  301. 10:35k21 academy
  302. 10:37and if you could not understand anything
  303. 10:40or if you want to dive deeper in the
  304. 10:42topics discussed then we have something
  305. 10:44really special for you
  306. 10:46we have our free class on openshift for
  307. 10:49beginners
  308. 10:50and under this free class you'll be
  309. 10:52learning about what is red hat openshift
