- 0:00Hello and welcome to Piece of Insight.
- 0:03In today's video, we're going to be
- 0:04taking a little bit of a deeper dive
- 0:06into how the market has changed over the
- 0:08last 6 months, what that means for the
- 0:10specific sealed product SPs and promo
- 0:12cards that we've been looking at, and
- 0:13what that might mean for the future of
- 0:15the One Piece TCG in the near term. But
- 0:18I also wanted to do something a little
- 0:19bit fun at the end of the video, so
- 0:20we're going to be looking at a bunch of
- 0:21really cool cards for under $20.
- 0:24Uh with that, as always, this is
- 0:25intended to be interesting and
- 0:27informative, but not financial advice.
- 0:29So, let's jump right in. So, before we
- 0:31jump deeper into the details, we got to
- 0:32take a look at how our indexes have
- 0:34changed over the last approximate month
- 0:37since we last did our update. So, just a
- 0:39refresher for those who haven't watched
- 0:40every one of these religiously, we have
- 0:42three different indexes. We have our SP
- 0:44500. This is our price index for SPs
- 0:48around $500 or more. Then we have our
- 0:50didn't open the wrapper, our Dow index
- 0:53of sealed product. And then finally, we
- 0:55have our Nica index, uh which are promo
- 0:58cards. So, over approximately the last
- 1:00month, SPs have shown a lot of strength.
- 1:02They're up around 18%
- 1:05uh across all of the SPs in the index.
- 1:07Meanwhile, booster boxes are telling a
- 1:09very different story. They have fallen 3
- 1:11and 1/2% uh over the last month. And
- 1:14then finally, we have promos that have
- 1:16increased by 2% over the last month. All
- 1:18of these are telling a little bit of a
- 1:19different story. Some of them are
- 1:21specific to the cards, and some of them
- 1:23I think are more related to macro trends
- 1:25across the One Piece TCG market, but
- 1:27we're going to dig into all that. So,
- 1:29we've been tracking these products over
- 1:30the last 6 months, starting in February
- 1:32up until today. So, let's talk about how
- 1:34the prices have changed over that period
- 1:35of time, starting with booster boxes.
- 1:38When we started, the most expensive
- 1:40booster boxes, of course, were the blue
- 1:41bottoms and the white bottoms. Uh I was
- 1:43not able to fit every single booster box
- 1:45that we look at on this list, so these
- 1:46are just the most expensive ones. Uh but
- 1:49one of the things we'll notice over that
- 1:50period of time is that while about half
- 1:53of the booster boxes are up, some of
- 1:55them significantly so, about half of the
- 1:57booster boxes are also down.
- 1:59Uh particularly the most expensive
- 2:01booster boxes being the blue bottoms and
- 2:03the white bottoms have fallen
- 2:04significantly from where they were back
- 2:06in February. So, you know, I think for
- 2:08the most part we've seen a period of
- 2:09consolidation uh for these boxes. They
- 2:12ran up quite a bit during the last bull
- 2:14run uh and so I think it is healthy to
- 2:17see consolidation as opposed to a crash.
- 2:19Although over the last month or so we
- 2:21have seen the prices start to fall a
- 2:23little bit more. It's really tough with
- 2:25these because you get some wildly
- 2:27different sales and relatively small
- 2:28differences in terms of like box
- 2:30quality, does it come with acrylic, all
- 2:32these sorts of things can make a pretty
- 2:34big difference in price. So, I tried to
- 2:36take what I thought were the most
- 2:37representative numbers. So, the biggest
- 2:38move that we've seen over the last 6
- 2:40months has actually been with EBO 2.
- 2:43I'll be honest, I'm obviously biased.
- 2:44I've been a big fan of this box for a
- 2:46really long time. This does not surprise
- 2:48me and makes a ton of sense to me. You
- 2:50know, as we have seen the prices climb
- 2:52for the Gear 2 Luffy Manga which I
- 2:55believe just hit like an all-time high
- 2:57in a PSA 10. We've obviously also seen
- 3:00the gold leaders go up a ton. You have
- 3:01the Luffy leader in that set that's very
- 3:03expensive. Plus this is by my
- 3:05calculations probably the second
- 3:06shortest printed set after EBO 1s. And
- 3:08I'll be honest that even at $845
- 3:11I still think it should be above EBO 1.
- 3:13EBO 1, yeah, it's a little bit more
- 3:15scarce but there's not really much in
- 3:17the boxes. This has scarcity and it has
- 3:19actual value inside the box. For me at a
- 3:22minimum this should be the fourth most
- 3:23expensive box of all of these. This box
- 3:25had dipped to around $440 as recently as
- 3:282 months ago. So, this is a massive
- 3:31massive run-up. As a general rule, I do
- 3:33assume that when something has
- 3:34dramatically increased in price we
- 3:36should be careful because we don't know
- 3:38whether the market is actually going to
- 3:39accept that new price. So, even though I
- 3:41do see long-term fundamental value in
- 3:43this box and it is my favorite of the
- 3:45boxes
- 3:46uh I would be careful. So, it's really
- 3:48up to your risk tolerance whether or or
- 3:50that makes sense for you. Other boxes
- 3:52that have moved quite a bit here, EBO1
- 3:54continues to rise as well, which again,
- 3:56I'm a little bit surprised by. You know,
- 3:58one of the trends that I think we're
- 4:00going to see across all of these
- 4:01different items is that scarcity seems
- 4:04to be playing a huge role. And one of
- 4:06the biggest losers that we've seen over
- 4:07the last 6 months has been OP13
- 4:10precisely for this reason. We just got a
- 4:11reprint. It was already probably the
- 4:13largest supply of set that we've ever
- 4:15had even before the reprint. And so now
- 4:18we've seen prices go from around $600
- 4:20all the way down to $400. I'll be
- 4:22honest, I do think that $400 is still
- 4:24pretty cheap for OP13 given the value
- 4:27that some of the cards in the boxes are
- 4:29going for, but I also think that that's
- 4:31a demonstration that when there is a lot
- 4:32of supply available, that makes people
- 4:35feel a little bit nervous about the
- 4:36prices and so the prices may have a
- 4:38little bit harder of a time moving up. I
- 4:40do think that OP13 is going to get back
- 4:41to where it was. I just think it's going
- 4:42to take a little bit of a while to get
- 4:44there. Another big mover has been OP11.
- 4:47I think one of the other trends that
- 4:48we've seen in sealed is sets that have
- 4:50huge chase cards
- 4:52that haven't gotten a massive reprint
- 4:54are also being pulled up as well. We see
- 4:56this with OP05, you know, PRBO1,
- 4:58although it's fallen behind EBO1 a
- 5:00little bit is also up a bit as well as
- 5:03OP09. Like these sets that have these
- 5:04big chase cards continue to do well.
- 5:07Part of that is probably that people are
- 5:08ripping them so they become a little bit
- 5:09more scarce, but part of it is also that
- 5:11I think people want to own the boxes
- 5:13that have the best cards in them. You
- 5:15know, it's hard to know exactly how much
- 5:16of that is genuine versus hype, but that
- 5:19is a trend that we're seeing. Another
- 5:20thing I wanted to look at is how the
- 5:21boxes have changed in their positioning
- 5:24over the 6 months relative to one
- 5:25another. So what I did was I took the
- 5:28rank order of price of the booster boxes
- 5:316 months ago and then I compared them to
- 5:33where the booster boxes sit now in terms
- 5:36of rank order of price. So if we take
- 5:38the assumption that the market moves as
- 5:39a whole, things generally go up or
- 5:41things generally go down, looking at how
- 5:43things change in position relative to
- 5:45one another can help to tell us where
- 5:47certain boxes are seeing strength and
- 5:49where certain boxes are seeing weakness
- 5:51and what that might tell us about the
- 5:52market as a whole. So first, obviously,
- 5:54EBO2 has gone up five spots from where
- 5:57it was six months ago. You know, that's
- 6:00not a surprise given what we just talked
- 6:01about and how much the price has gone
- 6:02up. OP13 as well is up three spots
- 6:05relative from where it was six months
- 6:07ago. An interesting one here that has
- 6:09gone up is OP02.
- 6:12I find this pretty surprising because
- 6:13most of the other vintage Heracross
- 6:15stuff has actually been falling. OP03 is
- 6:18down four spots. OP04 is down three
- 6:21spots. It may just be that OP02 was like
- 6:23just a tiny bit undervalued compared to
- 6:26the other ones
- 6:27six months ago, but I thought that was a
- 6:29little bit interesting. It was
- 6:30interesting to me that over the last six
- 6:32months the top three boxes have remained
- 6:34the top three boxes. I think we're
- 6:36starting to see some like consolidation
- 6:37and consensus that those are probably
- 6:39the three best sets
- 6:41that people want to collect to different
- 6:43degrees. I think once we get below that
- 6:45and we get into like the PRB01, EBO1,
- 6:48and EBO2 tier, I think there's maybe a
- 6:50little bit of discussion of which are
- 6:52better than the others, but I think
- 6:53clearly OP01 has its place in history
- 6:56and then OP05 is probably the best
- 6:58anniversary set that we've gotten and so
- 7:00those remain the top three for a reason.
- 7:03Okay, so enough of booster boxes. Let's
- 7:05talk about the SPs. So we did the same
- 7:08thing here. We looked at the SP prices
- 7:09from six months ago and we compared them
- 7:11to today to see how they've changed. So
- 7:14our big winners, we have the EBO3 Robin,
- 7:17the EBO3 Boa. EBO3 in general has done
- 7:20really, really well. The only reason the
- 7:21Nami hasn't increased as much as cuz the
- 7:23Nami was by far the most expensive
- 7:26when the set first came out. You know,
- 7:28this has been a good six-month period
- 7:29for Boa in general. She's been a little
- 7:31bit up and down, but right now she's
- 7:32back on the upswing. The OP04 Boa has
- 7:35also been one of the biggest winners
- 7:37over the past six months increasing
- 7:38$410, which is like almost 50% over the
- 7:426-month period. You know, I'm a big
- 7:44believer that that's an iconic SP and so
- 7:47I'm not surprised that it has gone up in
- 7:49price, but you know, again, a lot of
- 7:51these gains have been within like the
- 7:52last month. So I would be a little bit
- 7:54careful there. Same thing with Gum-Gum
- 7:56Giant. Gum-Gum Giant has increased a ton
- 7:59over the last 6 months. You know,
- 8:01obviously there's some playability
- 8:02relevance there. It is an event manga,
- 8:04but for those who don't know in PRB02
- 8:07event mangas were treated SPs. That's
- 8:08why I characterize it here. You know, I
- 8:10think people are starting to realize how
- 8:11good of a set PRB02 is, so I'm not
- 8:14surprised to see it rise there as well.
- 8:16Although it has gotten a little bit
- 8:18ahead of the other event mangas and SPs
- 8:20in that set, which I think are really
- 8:21really good. So although I do really
- 8:23like it, this is one that I would maybe
- 8:25be a little bit careful with. It does
- 8:27seem just like a little bit expensive to
- 8:28me
- 8:29compared to the other ones. And then the
- 8:31other good story here and as a
- 8:32percentage is actually the biggest
- 8:34change is the Luffy PRB02. You know,
- 8:36that one was only $350 6 months ago,
- 8:39which I think was like pretty
- 8:40ridiculously underpriced for a very long
- 8:43time. It went up to around $450
- 8:47and then up to $500 and then up to $600
- 8:50and now like in the last couple weeks
- 8:51it's now up to $750.
- 8:54I don't know how high it's going to
- 8:55climb. I'm of a mind that it's like one
- 8:56of the best SPs that there are, so I'm
- 8:59happy to see it like moving into the
- 9:00territory with the other like really
- 9:02highly valued SPs.
- 9:04But again, it's gone up a lot over a
- 9:06relatively short period of time, so I
- 9:08wouldn't get too crazy with that one. In
- 9:10terms of things that have gone down,
- 9:12there haven't been any like crazy
- 9:14losers, but the biggest loser has
- 9:15definitely been the Ace Wanted poster.
- 9:17And this is another one that doesn't
- 9:18really surprise me. I think the real
- 9:19issue here is just that like there is a
- 9:22huge population of these and like how
- 9:24many people really care about an error
- 9:26card, right? And I think that like a lot
- 9:28of its initial price was probably hype
- 9:30and people thinking that it was going to
- 9:31be super sought after in the future and
- 9:33sort of underestimating how common it
- 9:35was as a card. And I think we're
- 9:37starting to see a correction there. I
- 9:38still think it's a little bit expensive
- 9:39at this price, but I think we're getting
- 9:41into a much more reasonable territory.
- 9:43Uh other cards that have fallen a little
- 9:44bit, you know, the Boa from OP14. Again,
- 9:47I don't really have a great explanation
- 9:48for this other than there's like a lot
- 9:49of other better Boas out there. The
- 9:51Luffy wanted poster from OP09 has also
- 9:54fallen quite a bit. This one I am
- 9:56surprised about. Now, when I did the
- 9:58analysis of the populations for these, I
- 10:00did realize that this is a higher
- 10:02population SP than I would have guessed.
- 10:05Uh because the split between the wanted
- 10:08posters and the mosaic SPs in OP09 means
- 10:10that the wanted posters are less rare
- 10:13than the mosaic ones. So, it does make
- 10:15sense that this one is like a little bit
- 10:16less expensive than some SPs that are
- 10:18both top tier and also rarer, but I am
- 10:21surprised that while most things have
- 10:23gone up, this has continued to fall over
- 10:24that period. I think it's the type of
- 10:26thing that if you're really a One Piece
- 10:27fan, that you would really want to have
- 10:29in your collection. That one does feel a
- 10:30little undervalued to me even if it is a
- 10:32relatively high population. And then
- 10:34there are the cards that really haven't
- 10:35moved that much, uh which I think is
- 10:37pretty interesting. So, the OP14 Zoro,
- 10:40like when it first came out, it was like
- 10:41$950, and then it boomed up to like
- 10:44$1,500, and then it fell down to $750,
- 10:47and now it's climbed back up to end at
- 10:49exactly $950, right? And I think it's a
- 10:52great story of the volatility that is
- 10:55the One Piece market and how like hype
- 10:58trains can really, really pull things
- 11:00along. I think there's pretty general
- 11:02consensus that this is like one of the
- 11:04best SPs of all time, uh that the art is
- 11:07absolutely iconic. Um but, I think that
- 11:10like we saw a massive amount of hype and
- 11:12FOMO driving the prices all the way up,
- 11:15and then when the reality of the
- 11:16population hit as people finished
- 11:18opening all those cards, the price fell
- 11:21down quite a bit, and people moved on to
- 11:24other exciting things. And then
- 11:26naturally, the price has slowly
- 11:27increased over time uh as people saw it
- 11:30as being relatively inexpensive compared
- 11:33to what it was and then buying it back
- 11:34up to its price where it originally was.
- 11:37So, you know, again, the demand is going
- 11:39to change as we get new cards over time
- 11:41as attention moves somewhere else. So,
- 11:43this is part of the reason not to FOMO.
- 11:45In terms of other cards that have gone
- 11:46down or haven't really moved that much,
- 11:48you know, we have the Nami from OP09, we
- 11:50have the Zoro from OP09, we also have
- 11:52the Nami from OP05. What do those things
- 11:54have in common? Well, they're all from
- 11:56anniversary sets which are relatively
- 11:57high population, particularly the Nami
- 11:59from OP05 I think is like one of the
- 12:01largest if not the largest population of
- 12:03SPs, so I think that could be uh hurting
- 12:06its growth potential a little bit there.
- 12:09The 09 ones were like the first SPs to
- 12:11be really expensive, so I think seeing
- 12:13some consolidation there makes a ton of
- 12:14sense. So, I think the big takeaways
- 12:16here are to understand that when people
- 12:19recognize these are really, really good,
- 12:21there's going to be a lot of hype. And
- 12:22then we test what the actual scarcity
- 12:24is. And I think what we saw with EB03 is
- 12:27that we had the hype and then like not
- 12:29many cards came in to backfill because
- 12:31there actually are pretty scarce. And
- 12:33then we saw the price continue to go up
- 12:34from there because there wasn't much to
- 12:36come in and undercut the prices as they
- 12:38currently existed. Whereas I think some
- 12:40of these more common sets, we see a lot
- 12:42of hype and then we see backfill come in
- 12:44and that causes the price to go down.
- 12:47And so like over a long enough timeline,
- 12:49we are going to see like a normalization
- 12:51of supply and demand. So, in terms of
- 12:53how these SPs have changed, of course
- 12:55you have the PRB02 Luffy which is up six
- 12:58spots, that's the biggest mover having
- 13:00doubled in price over a 6-month period.
- 13:02This obviously doesn't surprise me. I
- 13:04think the more people that see it in
- 13:05person, the more they grow to appreciate
- 13:07it. We also have Gum-Gum Giant that's
- 13:08moved up four spots. The Boa EB03 has
- 13:11moved from third place into first place,
- 13:13which I do find a little bit surprising.
- 13:15I assumed that it was going to stay in
- 13:17third place given the character's
- 13:19popularity relative to Nami and Robin.
- 13:21The Boa from OP04 has moved up, which I
- 13:24think makes a ton of sense uh how iconic
- 13:26I view that. In in terms of the ones
- 13:28that are falling, the OP14 Zoro falling
- 13:31two spots I found to be a little bit
- 13:33surprising given how iconic I think that
- 13:35one is. You know, the OP09 Nami falling
- 13:38two spots doesn't shock me because we
- 13:39got the EB03 Nami uh that's above it, so
- 13:43that made some sense to me there. Again,
- 13:45the Luffy wanted poster falling three
- 13:47spots
- 13:48continues to surprise me. Um but, you
- 13:51know, it is what it is. The Boa from
- 13:53OP14 fell three spots, and then the Ace
- 13:55from OP13
- 13:57fell four spots as well. So, what are
- 13:59the big takeaways from this? Well, the
- 14:01first is that some people are clearly
- 14:02taking profits, particularly in booster
- 14:04boxes. While I don't cover it in the
- 14:06market indexes, uh it has been clear
- 14:09that certain segments of the slab market
- 14:12have also been decreasing in price,
- 14:14particularly the lower-end cards. There
- 14:15are certainly still some like grails and
- 14:17super high-end cards that are running,
- 14:18but I think a lot of cards that have
- 14:20been overhyped are starting to correct a
- 14:22little bit on the slab side. We're also
- 14:24starting to see some corrections in
- 14:25booster boxes. This doesn't surprise me
- 14:27very much. When we talked about our
- 14:28video trying to predict what was going
- 14:30to happen over the next 6 months, I said
- 14:32that I thought that some people were
- 14:33going to start to take profits going
- 14:34into OP17 partly as a way to save money
- 14:36so that they can then spend on OP17, um
- 14:40but also that depending on how OP17 is
- 14:42perceived will help to determine how
- 14:44long people think this bull run is going
- 14:45to go, right? So far at least, the
- 14:47demand for OP17 seems a little bit
- 14:49muted. Not everyone is happy with the
- 14:51card reveals. We may still get a couple
- 14:53epic cards. We may still get a god pack.
- 14:56You know, we're not really sure that
- 14:57we're done with all of the cards yet, so
- 14:59that could affect the perception. Uh but
- 15:01for now at least, I think it's led to a
- 15:02little bit of market cooling in the
- 15:04short term.
- 15:05You know, I actually think that a lot of
- 15:06these price corrections represent
- 15:07maturity. What you really don't want to
- 15:09see in a market is where like things get
- 15:11bought up through extreme hype, and then
- 15:14they fall down really fast because that
- 15:16means that like there's a very small
- 15:18active group of people who are willing
- 15:19to spend a lot of money, but then
- 15:21underneath that there isn't really very
- 15:23much. I think the fact that we're seeing
- 15:25prices correct very, very slowly after
- 15:29they've been bought up shows that there
- 15:30is a lot of consistent demand for One
- 15:33Piece, um which I think is really,
- 15:34really good and I think it's a strong
- 15:36signal for the future. I think scarcity
- 15:38is pushing prices higher right now. As
- 15:41I've said, you know, as we saw a lot of
- 15:43changes in demand over a 6-month period,
- 15:45the one thing that seemed to carry
- 15:47through is that the scarcer products
- 15:49seem to maintain their prices or
- 15:51increase their prices better over the
- 15:526-month period than the prices that had
- 15:54larger supply. As the market matures and
- 15:58we get a better understanding of what
- 15:59supply is, those scarcer things tend to
- 16:02create their own demand and be more
- 16:04demanded than the things that are less
- 16:05scarce. I also expect promos and SPs to
- 16:08correct. Now, a lot of people are not
- 16:09going to want to hear this, especially
- 16:10after I just did a video where I talked
- 16:12about SPs and I questioned whether or
- 16:14not SPs are undervalued. I think whether
- 16:17SPs are undervalued compared to mangas
- 16:19is still an important question. But I
- 16:21also have to acknowledge that the way
- 16:23the market tends to work is that it
- 16:26moves in waves. And so, now that we've
- 16:28seen booster boxes start to correct, I
- 16:31do think at some point we will see these
- 16:33promos and the SPs, which have continued
- 16:35to move up, start to correct as well.
- 16:38You know, how hard is that going to hit
- 16:40them? It's really, really hard to say.
- 16:42So, you know, I think that if we do see
- 16:44a correction there, I think there could
- 16:45be good buying opportunities for a lot
- 16:47of these SPs. Some of the promos I do
- 16:49think are still way too expensive, um
- 16:51but we'll see what happens there. I do
- 16:53expect to see a price correction across
- 16:55the board over the next few months, but
- 16:57I think SPs and promos in particular,
- 16:59because they have just run up so much in
- 17:01such a short period of time. And then
- 17:03the final thing I want to say is make
- 17:04sure you're not overpaying for OP-17.
- 17:07Obviously, we know it's an anniversary
- 17:08set. We know it's going to be good. We
- 17:11still don't know what the biggest chases
- 17:12are going to be yet, and some of the
- 17:13cards that we've seen so far are really
- 17:15cool. I just saw that it finally hit
- 17:17like pre-sale prices on TCGPlayer.
- 17:19As a word of caution, don't give those
- 17:21people your money. Like you're giving
- 17:22them an interest-free loan. If the
- 17:24prices go up a ton, they'll probably
- 17:25just cancel your order anyway. So, it's
- 17:27not like you're locking in a great price
- 17:29now. I will also say too, you know, what
- 17:31we have seen from OP13 is that prices
- 17:35spiked up to like $600 relatively
- 17:37shortly after release once like all the
- 17:39initial supply was eaten up.
- 17:41But then as they reprinted, we now see
- 17:43that they're like $400 a box, right? It
- 17:46will be interesting once we get all the
- 17:48cards from OP17 to compare it to OP13
- 17:51for which is a better set. But like
- 17:54I would be using $400 as a benchmark. If
- 17:56we think the set is better than OP13,
- 17:58okay, maybe it's worth more than $400.
- 18:00If we think it's worse than OP13, maybe
- 18:02it should be worth less than $400,
- 18:04right? I would expect as a minimum to
- 18:06see the same population we had for OP13,
- 18:08but we could also see a bigger
- 18:09population, right? So, let's not get
- 18:11crazy with these prices before we have
- 18:14much more information that we need to
- 18:16understand like how this actually fits
- 18:18among the other sets. Okay, so as I was
- 18:20preparing to find some cool cards under
- 18:22$20, I'll be honest, I came up with like
- 18:2460 and which were like way more than I
- 18:26could reasonably go through in a video.
- 18:28So, I'm going to try to touch on some
- 18:30areas where there are some really really
- 18:31cool cards to be found, but I definitely
- 18:33encourage you to dig around, you know,
- 18:35in the under $20 range cuz there still
- 18:37is so much cool stuff to be had uh even
- 18:39though most of the time we focus on the
- 18:41expensive things. So, the first category
- 18:43I want to talk about are the
- 18:44illustration boxes. Obviously, most
- 18:46people know like the Boa and the Nami,
- 18:48those are the most expensive, but you
- 18:50know, there's also this Yamato uh Peach
- 18:52Momoko. For those who don't know, Peach
- 18:54Momoko did the first two illustration
- 18:56boxes. So, there were four that that are
- 18:58very similar art style. There's this
- 18:59one, there's the Black Maria, there's
- 19:00the Nami and the Boa. Um I think this
- 19:02one is like really iconic looking, you
- 19:04know, at $17. All these cards we're
- 19:06going to talk about are relatively high
- 19:08population, right? So, I wouldn't go
- 19:09crazy on them, but if you were looking
- 19:10to spend like $100 on the six set, like
- 19:12getting all four of those cards
- 19:14together, I think would be really,
- 19:15really cool.
- 19:16But, the illustration boxes in general,
- 19:18I think have some really good art, and I
- 19:20think at their prices, um even though
- 19:22they're relatively high population, can
- 19:24still be really good value. You know,
- 19:25there's this Egghead Luffy, uh the
- 19:27market price on this one is around $9.
- 19:30It has gone up a bunch, but it's still a
- 19:32really cool-looking card. It's a Luffy
- 19:33card. You know, if this was a regular
- 19:35alt art, what would it be? 25, 30, 40
- 19:38dollars? And instead it's $10, right?
- 19:41Like I'm not trying to talk about any of
- 19:43these things from an investment
- 19:44perspective, but if you like it, like I
- 19:46think it's a pretty cheap way to get a
- 19:47really cool card. Some other cards I
- 19:49like from the illustration box set, I
- 19:50think this Law is absolutely sick for
- 19:52like $5. The texture uh and the foiling
- 19:56on some of the illustration boxes can be
- 19:57a little bit hit or miss, but this one
- 19:59is absolutely spectacular. We also have
- 20:01the Zoro again for around $5. The Zoro
- 20:05and the Luffy deliberately go together,
- 20:07um which I think looks really, really
- 20:08cool.
- 20:09And then you also have the Ace here at
- 20:11around $3. Uh the Ace also goes with the
- 20:14Sabo, so you have the two flame flame
- 20:16fruits together, which looks really,
- 20:17really cool together. There's this
- 20:19Perona uh
- 20:21for a dollar, right? The cheapest Perona
- 20:23alt art is probably like four bucks, and
- 20:26then most of the other ones are like,
- 20:27you know, more than $10. So, for a
- 20:29dollar, I feel like it's hard to go
- 20:30wrong if you like it. This Corazon is
- 20:33also like a really, really awesome piece
- 20:36of art in my opinion. You know, this one
- 20:38again is less than the dollar. And then
- 20:41the cheapest of the illustration boxes
- 20:42is actually the Sabo um for 50 cents.
- 20:46So, I just think these are really,
- 20:47really fun promo cards if you're looking
- 20:49for something cheap to pick up. Another
- 20:51category of cards that I think are
- 20:52really cool for their price, you know,
- 20:54obviously we talked about the mangas
- 20:56versus the SPs, and there was a lot of
- 20:57conversation about like original Oda art
- 20:59being like the best thing that you can
- 21:01have like in the game. Here we have
- 21:04something a little bit different. We
- 21:05have original sketches from the anime. I
- 21:08think this one in particular is really
- 21:10iconic of Luffy. And so I think that
- 21:12these will stand the test of time a
- 21:14little bit just because they are so
- 21:15different and so unique. There's also
- 21:17this one
- 21:18that has all of the Straw Hats. They're
- 21:20still pretty cheap. They kind of remind
- 21:22me of like if you follow Pokémon, the
- 21:24amazing rares, right? Which were like
- 21:26cool-looking cards, but like they
- 21:28weren't super rare, so nobody really
- 21:29paid attention to them. And then as the
- 21:31game grew, people found them more
- 21:33desirable and now they're worth, not a
- 21:34fortune, but they're worth a little bit
- 21:36more. The next category where I want to
- 21:38talk about are the best selection cards.
- 21:40There's like a ton of really, really
- 21:42awesome cards in these sets that are
- 21:44still really cheap. Obviously, the main
- 21:46characters have gotten more expensive. I
- 21:48wanted to point out this Makino. Props
- 21:50to our friends from Argentina for
- 21:51pointing out that we should be checking
- 21:53out Makino cards cuz sometimes they have
- 21:55other characters in the background. This
- 21:57one has little Luffy and you can also
- 21:59see Shanks's arm as well. And so it's
- 22:01like a cute reminder
- 22:02of how Luffy came to be, Luffy and
- 22:04Shanks's relationship and all that for a
- 22:07really, really affordable package. So
- 22:08again, thanks to them for pointing that
- 22:10out about actually the Makino first
- 22:11anniversary Japanese card, which you can
- 22:13really see them clearly, but I also
- 22:15checked and found it on this card as
- 22:16well. Another card from these types of
- 22:19sets. This isn't the best collection,
- 22:21but this is the Bandai Card Games Fest.
- 22:23I think the Sanji looks absolutely
- 22:25awesome. I've talked about it before. It
- 22:27used to be like three bucks, now it's
- 22:28like five to seven dollars. Again, I
- 22:32just feel like for less than $10, this
- 22:33is like one of the coolest cards you can
- 22:34own. Another card that I also like from
- 22:36that folder is the Jinbe. Obviously, I
- 22:38really enjoy Jinbe and this is like such
- 22:40a good Jinbe face. I make this face
- 22:43frankly all the time, especially at my
- 22:44children.
- 22:46I also think that the artistic style is
- 22:47really, really fun. So again, for like
- 22:49four bucks, I absolutely adore this
- 22:51card. Another card I wanted to talk
- 22:53about is the Luffy and Ace starter deck
- 22:56EX leader card. This card is like six
- 22:59bucks because this set just came out.
- 23:01Obviously, everybody's chasing the alt
- 23:02art version, which is over $100. But,
- 23:05I'll be honest, I got fortunate enough
- 23:06to pull the alt art version, and my kid
- 23:08only pulled the regular one, and we put
- 23:10them side by side, and like they both
- 23:12basically look as good. They They look
- 23:14different, but they both look awesome.
- 23:15And so, I feel like for six bucks, you
- 23:17have Luffy and you have Ace on the same
- 23:19card, you know, the tag team cards in
- 23:21Pokémon do super super well. I think
- 23:24these cards that put multiple characters
- 23:26on a card to better capture a moment in
- 23:28time are really really iconic. And so,
- 23:30like I just think it's a really
- 23:31desirable card and only six bucks. And I
- 23:33wouldn't be surprised if this one gets
- 23:34more expensive as the ST10 become a lot
- 23:36harder to get. Another promo card that I
- 23:38like is the I Know You're Strong.
- 23:41Something this has in common with the
- 23:42previous card is I'm running both of
- 23:44them in my deck since I'm playing Luffy
- 23:46and Ace. But, this card, I feel like if
- 23:49this was an event manga, would be a very
- 23:51expensive card, but because it came from
- 23:54the dash packs for OP13, and because
- 23:56there's a lot of them, there's a massive
- 23:58population of these cards, so you know,
- 24:00they're not as rare as the event mangas.
- 24:02But, I do think the art on this is super
- 24:03super fun, plus it's a good card. For
- 24:05only eight bucks, I feel like if you're
- 24:07looking at some of these event mangas
- 24:08and thinking, "Man, that's so expensive.
- 24:10How could I afford that?" Like this is a
- 24:11great alternative to that. Also, digging
- 24:13a little bit deep here, sometimes
- 24:15there's some really fun art that exists
- 24:17in the starter decks even on like the
- 24:19commons or the uncommons. And so, this
- 24:22Chopper was an example. Again, like I
- 24:24don't think this is going to be an
- 24:25expensive card at any point in the
- 24:26future. For $2, I thought it was a fun
- 24:29binder card. Um I actually have this
- 24:31starter deck, but I completely forgot
- 24:33about this card, so I might need to go
- 24:34pull it out at some point. And then the
- 24:36last card for today that I wanted to
- 24:37talk about was this O-Nami pirate foil.
- 24:40For those who didn't have the pleasure
- 24:41of opening PRB-01 and PRB-02, they had
- 24:44like special foiled versions of regular
- 24:46cards. PRB-01 had the Jolly Roger foil,
- 24:49and then PRB-02 had a different foil for
- 24:51every individual card, which was really
- 24:53really sick. If there is like art that
- 24:56you like in some of the commons and
- 24:58uncommons and rares and stuff that they
- 25:00may have gotten special treatment in
- 25:01those sets. I definitely encourage you
- 25:03to take a look because some of them look
- 25:04really, really cool. And this is one of
- 25:06the Namis that I thought stood out in
- 25:07terms of like it's a cool-looking card
- 25:09normally, but then you add the foil and
- 25:11that makes it kind of special. You know,
- 25:13again, for less than a dollar, I just
- 25:14think it's a fun binder card. So, that's
- 25:16all I have for today. As always, I hope
- 25:18you found this helpful. If you found
- 25:20that you agreed or disagreed with any of
- 25:21this, you know, I'd be interested in
- 25:22hearing your insights in the comments.
- 25:24As always, I love engaging with you all
- 25:25on this. I learn a ton and it's super,
- 25:28super enjoyable. If you haven't already,
- 25:30you know, we'd appreciate if you'd
- 25:31subscribe. If you are looking to pick up
- 25:33any of these cards or anything else, you
- 25:34know, we have our TCGPlayer affiliate
- 25:36link. We're also an eBay affiliate. I'll
- 25:38be putting some of these cards up on my
- 25:40eBay storefront as well just so that
- 25:42people can find them. Again, no pressure
- 25:44to buy, but if you do, we'll get a small
- 25:45commission, which is really helpful. I
- 25:46mostly just want to have them in one
- 25:48place
- 25:49so that they're easy to find. So, with
- 25:51that, as always, I appreciate your time
- 25:53and I will see you in the next one.
