6. 0:12well it's great to be back with you I'd
7. 0:14like to be with you on Skype however I
8. 0:16had my eyes dilated this morning for an
9. 0:18eye test before I go back overseas so uh
10. 0:20I kind of look like Rocky Raccoon well
11. 0:23it might be an interesting visual image
12. 0:25and Colonel North you have such a way
13. 0:27with words I can almost see that right
14. 0:30now but regardless of the uh of the the
15. 0:33eye treatment if you will uh practically
16. 0:37speaking and poetically speaking you can
17. 0:39take a clear look at what is going on in
18. 0:41the Ukraine the pro-russian protesters
19. 0:45the ethnic Russians getting more
20. 0:47aggressive in the eastern part of the
21. 0:49Ukraine what do you think is going to
22. 0:51transpire
23. 0:53well it's clear that
24. 0:55the seizure of the Crimea was just the
25. 0:58first step in what Vladimir Putin has
26. 1:00decided is the new form of putinism it's
27. 1:03not going to be the same as communism
28. 1:05he's never going to be able to rebuild
29. 1:07the evil empire as it once was but he
30. 1:09clearly intends to make sure that he's
31. 1:12able in this case to get land access to
32. 1:16the military facilities that Russia
33. 1:19really does need in the Crimea I mean
34. 1:22look at the the military bases there are
35. 1:26essential to his access to the Black Sea
36. 1:28and ultimately to the Mediterranean
37. 1:31they've got another Naval Base at Tardis
38. 1:33in Syria that they've pledged to Assad
39. 1:36that he's going to keep open and of
40. 1:38course that's the base where ostensibly
41. 1:40the chemical weapons are due to be
42. 1:42evacuated from Syria of course all
43. 1:45that's part of the deal that put
44. 1:46Vladimir Putin back into the driver's
45. 1:49seat in the Middle East
46. 1:50what Putin really wants is to protect
47. 1:53Russia's borders he the four and a half
48. 1:56hour long q a was a very sympathetic
49. 1:59interviewer on Russian television
50. 2:01yesterday that carried over as being
51. 2:03rebroadcast as we speak
52. 2:06the Russian people that he's got the
53. 2:08authority from the Russian Duma their
54. 2:10their legislature to be able to go ahead
55. 2:13and deploy and commit Russian military
56. 2:16what's been happening and it's been
57. 2:19happening since the Olympics were going
58. 2:21on totally missed by our intelligence
59. 2:24Services totally missed by the Obama
60. 2:27Administration what's been going on is
61. 2:30his plan to expand Russia's if you will
62. 2:33sphere of influence establish hegemony
63. 2:36over
64. 2:37the areas that he needs in order to
65. 2:39protect his military bases in the
66. 2:42Ukraine what he's what he's doing right
67. 2:44now is fomenting the kind of discontent
68. 2:47that's going to give him uh if you will
69. 2:50a pre-taxed for sending in Russian
70. 2:52troops to quote protect the Russian
71. 2:54population
72. 2:55now theoretically the United Nations and
73. 2:59the U.S and the NATO leaders and the EU
74. 3:01leaders are all going to get together
75. 3:03and and say boy if you cross this red
76. 3:06line This Line in the Sand we're going
77. 3:08to do some really tough stuff to you I
78. 3:10don't believe it I don't believe it
79. 3:12because there is no leadership coming
80. 3:14out of Washington on this uh Washington
81. 3:16has refused to provide military
82. 3:18assistance of any meaningful kind at all
83. 3:20to the ukrainians they missed the
84. 3:23opportunity in fact rebuff the
85. 3:25opportunity to give Ukraine a fast track
86. 3:28to get into NATO back in 2009 during the
87. 3:32so-called reset and so what you're
88. 3:34seeing is a continuing pandering
89. 3:37to Vladimir Putin by Washington and the
90. 3:40Europeans which are absolutely desperate
91. 3:43for hydrocarbon fuel both oil and
92. 3:46natural gas coming out of Russia 11
93. 3:49major pipelines flowed through the
94. 3:51Ukraine
95. 3:52they don't dare shut it off unless the
96. 3:55Russians tell them to shut it off
97. 3:57because Ukraine gets some hard currency
98. 3:59from the transit rights so he's going to
99. 4:02have to do something to protect the land
100. 4:04route to Crimea my guess is he's hoping
101. 4:07for some kind of quote diplomatic
102. 4:09solution unquote and that diplomatic
103. 4:12solution would be to concede Uranus
104. 4:15Ukraine would concede essentially what
105. 4:17is Eastern and Southern Ukraine to
106. 4:20Russian control Colonel North you have
107. 4:22you have laid out an insightful picture
108. 4:24of what is going on by any chance do can
109. 4:27you can you stay with us through the
110. 4:29break because there's some more we
111. 4:30really need to discuss with you if
112. 4:32you're supposed to accommodate
113. 4:34let's do it we'll do it Colonel North we
114. 4:37know we can always count on you you for
115. 4:39my days in Washington when I was serving
116. 4:41in the Congress I've always appreciated
