OFF LIMITS: The Most Secret Places in the World — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00Let's talk about secrets.
- 0:02It's human nature to want to know what we can't know, to have what we can't have, the most
- 0:07alluring things in life are often those that are unattainable.
- 0:10So true what Sheila would talk about alluring and unattainable.
- 0:16I guess we're doing this now.
- 0:17Who? Sheila. She was this angelfish that I knew when we got beat.
- 0:21Oh, no. Oh, she had the most perfect girls and all my own pelvic fins went all the way
- 0:27back. No, no, no.
- 0:28I'm talking about secret places.
- 0:31Oh, I dreamed of that.
- 0:32She was secret places.
- 0:33Hey, you know what I'm talking about.
- 0:34No, I don't.
- 0:36I mean, I do, but we're not.
- 0:38Why am I even talking to you?
- 0:41I lost my train of thought. Yeah.
- 0:43You're really floundering and floundering.
- 0:47You see what I did? And I'm fired today, baby.
- 0:51Wait, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. Oh, what are you doing?
- 0:53Oh, come on.
- 0:54Can you take a joke?
- 0:56Oh, no. We, um, akula.
- 0:59These are the most secret places in the world.
- 1:01Off limits to almost everyone.
- 1:04Wouldn't you tell us we can't go inside or photograph or even know what's happening in
- 1:07these places? Well, we need to know why.
- 1:17Welcome to the Y files were smart folks like us come to laugh and learn today we're
- 1:21talking about the most secret places in the world and the mysterious theories that
- 1:25surround them. A few weeks ago, we covered the scariest places in the US that you can
- 1:29actually visit. The locations on this list are different.
- 1:33You can't visit any of these without special access and no one really knows what's
- 1:36happening inside. And when you don't give the public information about something, we'll
- 1:40fill in the blanks. Cultish.
- 1:43You ready to behave? Oh, thank goodness.
- 1:48Oh, I couldn't breathe.
- 1:50Just give me a second. Ok, I'm ready.
- 1:55Drama queen, area 50.
- 1:59What are we're getting right to Mehar.
- 2:01Right to the meat. You can't do a list of secret locations without this one area.
- 2:05Fifty one has been a perennial American obsession for more than 50 years.
- 2:10It's been the backdrop for countless movies, books, TV shows and YouTube videos.
- 2:15In twenty nineteen, this well known but little understood location basically broke the
- 2:20Internet when some crazy person got millions of people to RSVP.
- 2:24Yes, to trespassing on area fifty one.
- 2:27Did we RSVP?
- 2:28Yes, we did not.
- 2:29Yeah. You're not as dumb as you look.
- 2:32Area 51 is located in Rachel, Nevada, about 80 miles northwest of Las Vegas, and is a
- 2:37remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base.
- 2:40It's so highly classified that the military disputed it even existed for years.
- 2:46Yes, it is. The Air Force finally acknowledged Area 51 is real in 2013, but nobody really
- 2:52knows what's happening in there.
- 2:53Built in nineteen fifty five as part of the Nevada Test and Training Range Complex, it
- 2:58was initially constructed by contractor Lockheed Martin as a test facility for the U2 spy
- 3:03plane to see those planes.
- 3:06That joke worked on two levels.
- 3:08I appreciate you noticing now.
- 3:10Although it's never been declared top secret, the area is highly protected and deadly
- 3:14force is authorized against trespassers.
- 3:17So what's going on there?
- 3:18Well, the official statement is for operational security reasons, we do not provide
- 3:23detailed information regarding what takes place in the facility.
- 3:26Not good enough.
- 3:27I agree. The most widely circulated theory is that Area 51 houses an alien spacecraft
- 3:34that crashed in Roswell, New Mexico, in nineteen forty seven.
- 3:37Along with the bodies of the pilots, we got 80 bodies.
- 3:41That's huge. The Air Force said the UFO was a weather balloon.
- 3:46I don't buy it. Oh, you don't trust our super honest, transparent government and military
- 3:50industrial complex? I do not.
- 3:53Lots of people don't. Area fifty one operated in secret for decades until nineteen eighty
- 3:57nine when Bob Lasar, who claimed he worked there, gave a public interview where he said
- 4:02that the military reverse engineered alien spacecraft and utilized that technology in
- 4:07American military and space programs.
- 4:10I believe that. I know you do.
- 4:12And think about how quickly technology advanced in the second half of the 20th century.
- 4:16Look at it this way, 20 years before Roswell.
- 4:19Nineteen twenty seven, Charles Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic Ocean in the spirit of
- 4:23St. Louis, a single engine, single seat aircraft.
- 4:27And that was a huge deal.
- 4:29He became an international star.
- 4:31That's 20 years before Roswell.
- 4:33OK, well, about 20 years after Roswell, we were launching satellites into orbit and
- 4:38landing people on the moon fake nose.
- 4:41Oh, the moon landing was was faked.
- 4:43They were fine, fine, fine, fine.
- 4:44I don't want to get into this now, but still, the airplane was just invented about 20
- 4:49years before Lindbergh.
- 4:50So there are huge leaps forward in technology in a relatively short period of time if we
- 4:56use the alien stuff.
- 4:59But we have no evidence.
- 5:00But it's clear that technology advancements started accelerating in the 50s and 60s
- 5:05because of something.
- 5:06What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments that these technological leaps come
- 5:10from reverse engineering alien spacecraft, or was it something else?
- 5:15R.A.F. men with the Menwith Hill is a Royal Air Force station in North Yorkshire,
- 5:20England, which was built to provide communications and intelligence support services to
- 5:25the UK and the US.
- 5:26Now, even though this is a Royal Air Force station, in the 60s, operational control was
- 5:31transferred to the National Security Agency of the United States.
- 5:35No boys were then created the largest electronic monitoring station in the world.
- 5:40There's monitoring mean spying.
- 5:42Sure it does. And there it is.
- 5:44Project Echelon is a surveillance program operated by the US, Australia, Canada, New
- 5:49Zealand and the UK, also known as the Five Eyes.
- 5:52Oh, I love that phrase.
- 5:54You're thinking of five guys.
- 5:56Yes, they do have good fries.
- 5:58Right. All right.
- 5:59So the five eyes and spies, nice developed echelon into a global system for the
- 6:05interception of private communications.
- 6:07And we're talking mass surveillance of high threat individuals and corporations via
- 6:12industrial espionage.
- 6:14Who decides who is a high threat?
- 6:19Yeah, I thought so.
- 6:20Echelon is now a global network of electronic spy stations that can eavesdrop on
- 6:25landlines, cell phones, fax machines, computers, it can even track bank accounts.
- 6:30And all that data is stored at Echelon computers, which can keep millions of records on
- 6:35millions of individuals, companies, even countries.
- 6:37Barton Gellman, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist for The Washington Post, summarized
- 6:41the leaks as follows.
- 6:43Secret legal authorities empower the NSA to sweep in the telephone, Internet and location
- 6:48records of whole populations.
- 6:51There are reports that every text message and phone call in the world flows through
- 6:55Echelon. And then is that added to the files of the sender and the receiver and stored
- 7:00for later analysis?
- 7:03Is this legal?
- 7:04Well, well is the wrong answer.
- 7:07It's not legal in the United States without a warrant, but this facility is not in the
- 7:11United States. That's a big loophole.
- 7:14And officially, this project doesn't even exist.
- 7:17So nothing to see. Here go this crazy thing.
- 7:20Lockheed Martin, the company seems to show up in an awful lot of these videos.
- 7:24Yeah, I noticed that, too.
- 7:26So what do we do about it?
- 7:29Can you make one of those for me?
- 7:31I'm terrified right now.
- 7:33I'm using a stolen Netflix password.
- 7:35Oh, I know you stole it from me.
- 7:37I didn't really peg you as a fan of the Twilight movie.
- 7:40Stop breaking my horns.
- 7:41I need some protection over here.
- 7:43Where are you, pal? There you go.
- 7:48Yeah, I don't know why, but I feel so much better.
- 7:51I know it does. What do you guys think?
- 7:53Is Echelon real?
- 7:55Are you concerned about governments reading your texts and screening your calls?
- 7:59Let us know in the comments.
- 8:02Now, whether the emergency operation center built in nineteen fifty eight meant whether
- 8:07serves as the operations center for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a.k.a.
- 8:12FEMA. It's part of the United States is continuity of government plan.
- 8:15And it's a relocation site for the highest level of civilian and government personnel.
- 8:20This is a five hundred and sixty four acre high security federal government facility
- 8:24along the land in Clark County bordering Virginia, built during the Cold War as a
- 8:27relocation site. The facility consists of two parts, the above ground FEMA complex and a
- 8:33six hundred thousand square foot underground facility.
- 8:37Reportedly, it's a fully self-contained city with its own leaders, its own police and
- 8:41fire departments, even its own set of laws.
- 8:43This underground bunker has a hospital, dining and recreation areas, sleeping quarters, a
- 8:48self-contained water system, emergency power plant, even a radio and television studio,
- 8:53which is part of the emergency broadcasting system.
- 8:55People are said to be able to survive down here in isolation for years without ever
- 9:01leaving the compound. Sounds a lot like 20 20 too soon.
- 9:04Mount weather has been designed to survive conventional, chemical, biological, even
- 9:09nuclear attacks, even though it's been operated and maintained for over 60 years.
- 9:14Very little is known about about whether the general public first learned about it in
- 9:18nineteen seventy four when TWA Flight 514 crashed nearby.
- 9:22And up until then, most federal officials didn't even know it existed.
- 9:25Has it ever been used?
- 9:26Oh yeah. Mount Weather was briefly activated by federal agents on April 7th twenty
- 9:31fifteen after a major power outage hit Washington, D.C.
- 9:34It was also used during the 9/11 attacks with the entire congressional leadership was
- 9:39transported there by helicopter.
- 9:41All the Congress in one bunker.
- 9:43Oh, I'd rather take my chances with the bombs.
- 9:46I hear you. Nobody really knows who's on the mount weather list, but it's a pretty
- 9:50exclusive list. So how do we get on a list?
- 9:54Of course. It will work it a tails off over here, though, what's a favorite hit the
- 10:01thumbs up but a like but no one ever but you got there.
- 10:04I mean, come on. Are you doing that by walking around with a mask?
- 10:07Angry, depressed.
- 10:08Come on. Help a brother out.
- 10:10Mad mezo mezze.
- 10:13The Yamen, along with Kavinsky Mountain are claimed by the US as being secret nuclear
- 10:20facilities with underground bunkers because large excavation projects have been observed
- 10:25by satellites. Several military garrisons were built on the site and then merged into the
- 10:30closed town of Gori, a close town.
- 10:33Close town is a residential area where travel is restricted in and out.
- 10:37How many people live in MEZO?
- 10:39Whatever little estimates are, there are thirty thousand military and another thirty
- 10:43thousand non-military personnel.
- 10:45But nobody really knows because people haven't been able to enter or leave for over 20
- 10:50years and nobody knows.
- 10:51Well, countries in the West have been asking Russia for years what's going on in there.
- 10:56And the story keeps changing.
- 10:57It is a place for mining rocks.
- 11:00It is a place for making delicious cheeses.
- 11:03It is like a big Home Depot.
- 11:06They really said that they did that.
- 11:08I don't trust those guys.
- 11:10They're Russian. They don't care what you think.
- 11:14The global seed vault.
- 11:16Oh, that looks like the thing that the was drive around.
- 11:19It's just a big cow deep in an icy mountain above the Arctic Circle between Norway in the
- 11:24North Pole lies a resource of vital importance for the future of civilization.
- 11:29It's not coal, oil or precious minerals, but seeds.
- 11:33Millions of seeds from more than 900000 varieties of food crops are stored in the global
- 11:39seed vault on Spitzbergen, part of Norway's Svalbard archipelago, that tell the people
- 11:44how many tries it took to get that right.
- 11:47Go ahead, tell them it took me 14 tries.
- 11:50Bulbar guard Cappello aka fog.
- 11:56It's been a long day, folks.
- 11:57The seed vault is basically a huge safety deposit box to protect against loss during large
- 12:03scale regional or global crises.
- 12:05So if they drop bombs on us, we still got Tomatis, we still got tomatoes.
- 12:10The seed bank is one hundred and twenty meters inside a sandstone mountain and employs
- 12:15seriously advanced security systems.
- 12:17Seeds are packaged in these special foil packets that allow them to last basically
- 12:21forever. The facility is managed by the Nordic Genetic Resource Center, but they only
- 12:26open the vault to make deposits.
- 12:27There are no permanent staff on site.
- 12:29A Spitzbergen was considered ideal because it lacks tectonic activity, has permafrost and
- 12:35it's one hundred and thirty meters above sea level, which keeps the site dry even if the
- 12:39ice caps melt. Also, Norway typically tries to stay out of military conflicts.
- 12:45The. I said they try while the press has emphasized its use in the event of a major
- 12:55global catastrophe, the Sebald will be more frequently accessed when gene banks lose
- 12:59samples due to mismanagement, accidents, equipment failures, funding cuts or natural
- 13:04disasters. And these events are actually pretty common.
- 13:06War and civil strife have a history of destroying seatbacks.
- 13:10For example, the National Seed Bank of the Philippines was damaged by flooding and then
- 13:13later destroyed by a fire.
- 13:15And the seed banks of Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq have all been lost completely from Bob.
- 13:20I'd rather end on a high note.
- 13:22Thanks to the global seed vault, many of those seeds were recovered.
- 13:25Tomatoes, tomatoes, Vatican secret archives.
- 13:31Fifty three miles of shelving.
- 13:33Thirty five thousand volumes, millions of pages going back twelve hundred years, housed
- 13:39in one of the most iconic bastions of religion and culture.
- 13:43The Vatican's apostolic archives are the stuff of historical legend and Dan Brown books,
- 13:49but they're absolutely real.
- 13:50The archives indexes are not public and they're only accessible to very few scholars.
- 13:54And then only after the deposits have been stored for at least seventy five years and
- 13:59they're housed in a fortress inside the Vatican.
- 14:02Why do we have to wait seventy five years to read this stuff?
- 14:05I'd rather not get into it.
- 14:06I got anyway.
- 14:09Notable documents include Henry the Eighth Request for a marriage annulment, handwritten
- 14:13transcript of the trial of Galileo and letters from Michelangelo complaining he hadn't
- 14:17been paid for his work on the Sistine Chapel.
- 14:19They stiffed Michelangelo on his bill.
- 14:21Apparently they did what it yeah, someone out there gets it.
- 14:26The secretive nature of the Catholic Church and the potential information within have
- 14:31fueled years of wild speculation about what's inside.
- 14:35And there are tons of crazy conspiracy theories about what's in the archives.
- 14:38And we talk about a few yes, we can disclaimer.
- 14:42We are merely reporting we are not endorsing any of these theories.
- 14:46I may endorse one.
- 14:47You may not. Fine, fine, fine.
- 14:49What do you get? Many conspiracy theorists believe the archives show the Vatican is
- 14:53hiding proof that Jesus didn't exist.
- 14:55No, boy, you're right.
- 14:57Yes. That it is good thinking.
- 14:58Another theory says the Vatican has evidence of extraterrestrials and that the pope is
- 15:03conspiring with aliens to implant us with computer chips.
- 15:07There's also this great theory about a device.
- 15:09I have to say it slowly.
- 15:10It's called the Crono Visor.
- 15:13Crono Visor out.
- 15:15Try saying that word fast and watch how quickly a YouTube video gets banned.
- 15:19Anyway, the Crono Visor is a machine that allows the operator to view past and future
- 15:25events. And it was designed by an Italian priest and scientist who is trying to prove
- 15:29evidence of the crucifixion.
- 15:31And the archives are said to contain the three secrets of Fatema, which is a series of
- 15:35visions and prophecies that predict the end of the world.
- 15:38And of course, some people believe the archives are controlled by the Illuminati, which
- 15:43the Vatican is a founding member.
- 15:44Fact. A conspiracy theory that turned out to be true is that the Vatican archives
- 15:49contained a document that absolved the Knights Templar of crimes against the church.
- 15:54In 2001, the Shannon Parchment was discovered in the archives and the parchment is dated
- 15:59August 13, 08 as Shannon France and contains interrogations, confessions and absolution
- 16:05of the Knights. When the Shannon Parchment was made public in 2007, it confirmed the
- 16:10legacy of the Knights Templar by proving that Pope Clement, the Fifth, actually absolved
- 16:15the group of heresy in thirty eight.
- 16:17It's a fascinating document that reads like a Law and Order episode, actually a Law and
- 16:21Order SVO episode, if you know what I mean.
- 16:25If you want to check it out, I'll put a link to the full text in the description.
- 16:28And if you want to see a whole video about the Knights Templar, I do let us know in the
- 16:32comments and we'll get on it real.
- 16:36Thirty nine room thirty nine also called bureau thirty nine.
- 16:40An office thirty nine is officially known as the Central Committee Bureau.
- 16:43Thirty nine of the Workers Party of Korea.
- 16:45And it's a secretive North Korean party organization that seeks to bring in foreign
- 16:49currency to party leadership.
- 16:51The organization is estimated to bring in one billion dollars a year or more and may be
- 16:56involved in activities such as counterfeiting hundred dollar bills, producing meth,
- 17:00heroin and committing international insurance fraud for big, big bucks.
- 17:04La la la la la la la la la la la.
- 17:06Hold on. What we ease into this, this is crazy.
- 17:09Ok, ok. Will ease into it.
- 17:12Office thirty nine was set up in the 1970s by the founding father of North Korea, Kim Il
- 17:17Sung, as a kind of a royal slush fund.
- 17:19It takes its name from the office it occupies inside the Worker's Party building in the
- 17:23capital, Pyongyang, not far from the official residence of the party leader.
- 17:26Much of what we know about room thirty nine comes from a defector that ABC interviewed in
- 17:30twenty eighteen. He said he spent five years working as an agent in the design group, an
- 17:35umbrella corporation that smuggled ginseng, gemstones and gold into China so it could be
- 17:40sold on the international markets as Chinese gold, apparently evading United Nations
- 17:44sanctions, was easy and China played a central part.
- 17:47It just changed. Company names and had branches in different countries.
- 17:50We don't know much about the internal operations of room thirty nine because the defector
- 17:54is afraid of assassination attempts on himself and his family.
- 17:58But there are plenty more shady details which link below.
- 18:02Should we be talking about this now?
- 18:05You're squeamish. Well, I was fine until the last story and maybe we can cut this one
- 18:10out. It's too late now.
- 18:11Well, how do you say I'm sorry?
- 18:14In Korean you saw how I was being rhetorical.
- 18:18Is that is that is that really how to say it?
- 18:20Yeah. Why do you say we all have secrets, don't we?
- 18:25Yes. Yes, we do.
- 18:28Thanks for hanging out with us today.
- 18:29My name is A.J. That's Hellfish.
- 18:31This has been the wave files today.

- 18:37happens inside their other secret places.
