  1. 0:00So, here's the thing about
  2. 0:01save-for-later apps. They become
  3. 0:03graveyards. You save an article because
  4. 0:05it feels productive. You add a YouTube
  5. 0:07video because you might need it someday.
  6. 0:09And then, nothing. It sits there. You
  7. 0:11never go back, and even if you did, you
  8. 0:13can't remember why you saved it. This is
  9. 0:16the consumption mindset, and consumption
  10. 0:19doesn't stick. But, when your sources
  11. 0:21live in Obsidian, something different
  12. 0:23happens. They become interwoven with
  13. 0:25your knowledge. That article that you
  14. 0:27clipped is now linked to the project it
  15. 0:29inspired. That YouTube video connected
  16. 0:31to the notes where you applied the
  17. 0:33ideas. You can trace how your thinking
  18. 0:35developed over time. And here's a test.
  19. 0:38When you look at a source and see no
  20. 0:40links, no connections, that is when you
  21. 0:43delete it. It has served no purpose. It
  22. 0:45didn't earn its place. This isn't a
  23. 0:48dumping ground. This is an engine of
  24. 0:51producing. And today, we're building it.
  25. 0:53So, in the previous three videos in the
  26. 0:55base series, we went through the system
  27. 0:58base to help you Obsidian's stay squeaky
  28. 1:00clean. In part two, we built the journal
  29. 1:02base to go through the daily notes
  30. 1:04flowing into the weekly, monthly,
  31. 1:05yearly. In part three, we tackled the
  32. 1:07project base, tackling all the
  33. 1:10white-collar workers' wet dreams. And
  34. 1:13today, we are building and finishing the
  35. 1:16final element in the series, which is
  36. 1:18the source base. So, the only tools
  37. 1:21we'll need for this is Obsidian Web
  38. 1:23Clipper and Obsidian Base. You'll see me
  39. 1:24play around with some AI tools just to
  40. 1:27clean up some notes as we go along.
  41. 1:30There'll be more videos on that coming
  42. 1:32later. But for now, the the two main
  43. 1:34things that we're interested in, because
  44. 1:35this is a base video, is the Obsidian
  45. 1:37Web Clipper to get the sources into
  46. 1:39Obsidian, and then Obsidian Base to
  47. 1:41display it. So, the build where you set
  48. 1:43up Web Clipper, we install it, we create
  49. 1:46a couple of Web Clipper templates. And
  50. 1:48then, for the source base, we build the
  51. 1:50source base with all the columns that we
  52. 1:52need from the sources that we're pulling
  53. 1:53in. A quick side note. If you like the
  54. 1:56setup and you like what Bases can do, I
  55. 1:58have the full setups available for
  56. 2:00projects, for journaling, and for
  57. 2:02studying. So, you don't have to build
  58. 2:03everything out yourself. I also offer
  59. 2:05one-on-one consulting sessions, so you
  60. 2:07can speed up your knowledge management
  61. 2:09journey.
  62. 2:12So, let's see what this might look like.
  63. 2:14So, this is my personal vault, and this
  64. 2:16is my source base.
  65. 2:18You can see the image cover can quickly
  66. 2:20tell you what it looks like. We have the
  67. 2:22file name, summary, the source, so you
  68. 2:24can just go into and watch it.
  69. 2:26Or better yet, you can just go into the
  70. 2:27video and click play in your Obsidian.
  71. 2:32You have the properties, so this just
  72. 2:34comes from our source template, which
  73. 2:37you won't really use because we have
  74. 2:39replicated [clears throat]
  75. 2:40this template in the Obsidian Web
  76. 2:42Clipper, which we are using to capture
  77. 2:44things from the web.
  78. 2:46But, this is what it looks like if you
  79. 2:47want to build it in your vault, if you
  80. 2:49want to capture things manually.
  81. 2:51We have
  82. 2:52If you go to source mode,
  83. 2:54top indicating that it's a source,
  84. 2:57we have the source where you would paste
  85. 2:58the link, the status, created, updated,
  86. 3:00aliases, up, related, tags,
  87. 3:02and summary. And then we just have these
  88. 3:05sections. And you can choose what you
  89. 3:08want to put into the source note
  90. 3:09template, but this is a good starting
  91. 3:11point. And
  92. 3:14we have the summary, we have the
  93. 3:16in-browser view, or if it's an article,
  94. 3:18you have a link here as well.
  95. 3:20And then we have the key takeaways. Now,
  96. 3:21this you can either do manually, which I
  97. 3:24think most of us are doing, but with AI
  98. 3:27tools,
  99. 3:28we can speed up this process by pasting
  100. 3:30in the transcript of an entire video, or
  101. 3:33podcast, or just pasting the entire
  102. 3:36article.
  103. 3:37And after you read it and watch it
  104. 3:39yourself, you can then ask AI to
  105. 3:41basically give you the key takeaways,
  106. 3:43and then you can go further by creating
  107. 3:46these notes. So, what will this look
  108. 3:48like? So, if we go to the web browser,
  109. 3:50and we go to Obsidian Web Clipper. So, I
  110. 3:53would say first go to Google. And then,
  111. 3:56to install Obsidian Web Clipper, so this
  112. 3:58just an extension of your browser. You
  113. 4:00can go to the Obsidian Web Clipper
  114. 4:02website, and then you can just add it
  115. 4:05here. And as soon as you went through
  116. 4:06the installation steps,
  117. 4:08you'll find that the extension lives
  118. 4:10under your extensions. It would either
  119. 4:11be in your extension, or there would be
  120. 4:14a little icon at the top right that
  121. 4:16looks like this, Obsidian Web Clipper.
  122. 4:19So, the next step is we want to see what
  123. 4:21templates we are using in the Web
  124. 4:22Clipper. So, first we need to find
  125. 4:26something that we want to learn
  126. 4:28something from. So, you can see I just
  127. 4:30have a lot of music, but somewhere
  128. 4:32there's going to be something that I
  129. 4:34would want to learn
  130. 4:36from.
  131. 4:37And this would typically be productivity
  132. 4:40things.
  133. 4:42Um I have a lot of music these days.
  134. 4:44Interesting.
  135. 4:47Sisyphus and the Impossible Dream.
  136. 4:49>> [clears throat]
  137. 4:50>> I like mythology, so
  138. 4:53you know, why not? This would be a good
  139. 4:55video.
  140. 4:58So, step number one is we click into the
  141. 5:00video.
  142. 5:01And we're going to go through the same
  143. 5:03steps, but I just want to show you what
  144. 5:04the templates looks like. So, if you
  145. 5:05want to go and update the Obsidian Web
  146. 5:08Clipper templates, but you can think of
  147. 5:10it as being quite similar to
  148. 5:12our templates in Obsidian itself.
  149. 5:18Which we just want to mimic the
  150. 5:20structure.
  151. 5:21Where we have our properties, summary,
  152. 5:23key takeaways, content, or the
  153. 5:26transcript.
  154. 5:27So, we want to replicate that, and we
  155. 5:29can do that by going to your web
  156. 5:31browser, going to Obsidian Web Clipper,
  157. 5:33and you'll be met with this thing that
  158. 5:35want to immediately clip this YouTube
  159. 5:38video into Obsidian.
  160. 5:40But what we want to do is we want to go
  161. 5:41into the settings of the Obsidian Web
  162. 5:43Clipper.
  163. 5:45And that's when we would go to our
  164. 5:47templates. So you would add a new
  165. 5:49template and then you would
  166. 5:50make another one for different
  167. 5:52scenarios. So I have basically two
  168. 5:53templates that I use a lot, YouTube
  169. 5:55templates and article templates. So
  170. 5:57let's first go to the YouTube template.
  171. 5:59Here you give it a name.
  172. 6:02You choose to override notes for
  173. 6:04behavior. This is the title that you
  174. 6:06give. So
  175. 6:07we are interested
  176. 6:10in putting a S for source, U for
  177. 6:13YouTube, and then this grabs the title
  178. 6:16of the video and then it tries and it's
  179. 6:18not always
  180. 6:20working 100% but it tries to go get the
  181. 6:23author or the channel name.
  182. 6:25Where do you want to save it? So this is
  183. 6:27we go back to Obsidian. Can see that we
  184. 6:30want to save it in our notes folder and
  185. 6:33we want to go to the Obsidian vault cuz
  186. 6:36you might have multiple Obsidian vaults.
  187. 6:38The last used one it's going to go and
  188. 6:40push it into there.
  189. 6:42The triggers is you can put websites
  190. 6:45that you generally visit. So if I go to
  191. 6:48YouTube I want it to automatically
  192. 6:49detect that it should use the YouTube
  193. 6:52template instead of the article
  194. 6:54template.
  195. 6:55>> [snorts]
  196. 6:55>> And
  197. 6:57properties, this is where we are
  198. 6:59building out our template structure. So
  199. 7:01you can see type is source YouTube, area
  200. 7:04source, this where you just type in the
  201. 7:06URL in curly brackets. So
  202. 7:09that would make it possible to just
  203. 7:11click on and then go to YouTube in order
  204. 7:13to watch it. The cover
  205. 7:15this is the cover code. So we go with
  206. 7:20image YouTube and then yeah, I would say
  207. 7:22just pause it and
  208. 7:25copy it if you want.
  209. 7:27I'll give some time.
  210. 7:31There we go.
  211. 7:34So this is some code that I had to write
  212. 7:36in order to
  213. 7:37have the best chance of retrieving a
  214. 7:39cover for a video.
  215. 7:41And then created, updated, and then the
  216. 7:44rest we just leave blank for now. And
  217. 7:45then the note content, so we want the
  218. 7:48URL to be displayed. So this would make
  219. 7:51it possible for you to watch the YouTube
  220. 7:52video in your Obsidian.
  221. 7:54We have the summary, we have key
  222. 7:56takeaways, and then we have the
  223. 7:57transcript. And for the article, it's
  224. 7:59basically the same thing.
  225. 8:01We just have the same properties, and
  226. 8:04then we have
  227. 8:06the same information for the note
  228. 8:08content with just a little bit of a the
  229. 8:10difference with the
  230. 8:11displaying of the image.
  231. 8:14So those are the two templates that I
  232. 8:15mostly use.
  233. 8:17So now if we go back to Sisyphus and The
  234. 8:19Impossible Dream,
  235. 8:21how I would normally do this is I would
  236. 8:23watch it if it's a topic that interests
  237. 8:25me,
  238. 8:26and [snorts]
  239. 8:26I would take my own notes.
  240. 8:29But I found this
  241. 8:31to be quite useful in terms of
  242. 8:34pulling it into Obsidian and doing my
  243. 8:36analysis there instead of just passively
  244. 8:39consuming because we want to do
  245. 8:40something with these sources, otherwise
  246. 8:42it was basically useless. If it's just
  247. 8:44for entertainment purposes, that's fine.
  248. 8:46But typically you won't watch
  249. 8:48productivity things, or when you learn
  250. 8:50about new subject, like I'm currently
  251. 8:52learning a lot about cloud code and how
  252. 8:53to set it up and using it with Obsidian.
  253. 8:56I don't want to watch a video
  254. 8:58and
  255. 8:59just passively consume because I would
  256. 9:02not retain most of the information, and
  257. 9:04that would be 15, 20, 30 minutes down
  258. 9:08the drain because I'm not using that
  259. 9:09information.
  260. 9:11So we want to find a methodology that
  261. 9:13helps us to actually use sources.
  262. 9:17For it not to become dead weight onto
  263. 9:19our system.
  264. 9:21So
  265. 9:21step number one is putting this into
  266. 9:23Obsidian. And what I like to do, you
  267. 9:26don't have to, but I like to go grab the
  268. 9:28transcript, and this is still a manual
  269. 9:30step for now,
  270. 9:31which you go down to the YouTube video's
  271. 9:34transcript section, show transcript,
  272. 9:36and then you just do a nice little
  273. 9:39copy-paste.
  274. 9:42Next step, you go to your extension or
  275. 9:44the little icon at the top right if you
  276. 9:46see it. Extensions, Obsidian Web
  277. 9:48Clipper.
  278. 9:49And it automatically chose the right
  279. 9:52template, but you can also go choose
  280. 9:53yourself which template you want to use.
  281. 9:55And we have these two, so YouTube is
  282. 9:57fine.
  283. 9:58We check if everything has been filled
  284. 10:00in the right way. So, yes, name and case
  285. 10:03nice that. Nice.
  286. 10:05And the transcript, I'm just going to
  287. 10:07paste the transcript. And I'm going to
  288. 10:09add it to Obsidian.
  289. 10:12So, there we have it. We added it to
  290. 10:14Obsidian. And sometimes the icon doesn't
  291. 10:16appear correctly.
  292. 10:18Uh just with some videos you can't
  293. 10:20always get right, but that's fine.
  294. 10:22And this is typically when you would
  295. 10:24watch through the video. And this is
  296. 10:26where you would write down any of the
  297. 10:29key concepts that interests you.
  298. 10:34And this is where you would turn it to
  299. 10:36actual notes that lives in your
  300. 10:40Obsidian.
  301. 10:42And this is how you start using sources
  302. 10:45in order to feed into future projects,
  303. 10:48into future thinking. Because once you
  304. 10:50make notes out of the concepts,
  305. 10:52that is when we go back to the source
  306. 10:55base, you can see that sources aren't
  307. 10:57just dead weight.
  308. 11:00If they have file backlinks and file
  309. 11:03links, so you can see we created a note.
  310. 11:05If these two
  311. 11:06are being populated, it means
  312. 11:09that something is happening and we can
  313. 11:11actually trace back how certain sources,
  314. 11:14how certain videos, how certain articles
  315. 11:17are
  316. 11:18helping us produce or think. And it
  317. 11:21doesn't become just dead weight. It's
  318. 11:22not just sources that's sitting there.
  319. 11:24You can go and look at the connections.
  320. 11:28So, if we go for
  321. 11:32Uh we'll come back to this uh scenario a
  322. 11:33little bit later and I'll show you the
  323. 11:35importance of the file backlinks and
  324. 11:37links
  325. 11:38uh via the graph view. But for now, we
  326. 11:41want to go back to this video.
  327. 11:43And
  328. 11:45we want to start filling this in. So,
  329. 11:46for me, I like Claude code.
  330. 11:49And
  331. 11:50I like to make life a little bit easier
  332. 11:52on me. So, what I've done is I wrote a
  333. 11:55skill called
  334. 11:58source processing.
  335. 12:00And I'm going to point the skill. This
  336. 12:02is just It think of it as ChatGPT inside
  337. 12:05of your Obsidian vault that has access
  338. 12:06to your notes.
  339. 12:09And what this skill does is it goes and
  340. 12:12reads through this entire transcript and
  341. 12:15it takes out a summary and then the key
  342. 12:17takeaways.
  343. 12:19And from this key takeaways, I can then
  344. 12:22see which key takeaways I resonate with
  345. 12:25and start to make the notes.
  346. 12:28So, you can see our little Claude
  347. 12:30bot is working for us. And again, you
  348. 12:32don't need this.
  349. 12:34Some people still prefer to do this
  350. 12:36manually, but for me
  351. 12:38to have the AI analyze the sources
  352. 12:41immediately when I'm watching them, it
  353. 12:43helps me make connections much quicker.
  354. 12:46So, for the key takeaways, you still
  355. 12:48want to create those notes. You don't
  356. 12:51just want to tell
  357. 12:52the assistant like, "Hey, go and push
  358. 12:55knowledge into my system that I am not
  359. 12:57really curating." Like, no. You want
  360. 12:59this to be the extension of your brain.
  361. 13:01So, in the source page
  362. 13:03this is where you use AI in order to
  363. 13:06just pump out information, but with the
  364. 13:08key takeaways that's going to return
  365. 13:11that is when you want to do it yourself.
  366. 13:14And you can ask AI to clean it up.
  367. 13:16So, now we can actually see what is
  368. 13:19happening in the video. So, clean up the
  369. 13:21transcript.
  370. 13:22We have the tool mentions, no tools, but
  371. 13:24the key takeaways. Set impossible goals
  372. 13:27in moment of adversity. Like that might
  373. 13:29might be something that I resonated
  374. 13:30with.
  375. 13:31Or I want to start
  376. 13:34putting in the the Greek story of
  377. 13:36Sisyphus.
  378. 13:37And this is where I would then turn this
  379. 13:39into a note.
  380. 13:41And I would then
  381. 13:44create a note and I would say
  382. 13:47Sisyphus Sisyphus
  383. 13:50the Greek mythological
  384. 13:54character.
  385. 13:57And then I might want to learn about
  386. 13:59Sisyphus.
  387. 14:00Well,
  388. 14:01he was a king that was cursed by the
  389. 14:04gods to perpetually push a boulder up a
  390. 14:06hill. And this is when I would just
  391. 14:08write out the story as I remember it. So
  392. 14:11that's very important that with these
  393. 14:13type of notes,
  394. 14:15you want to make this your own.
  395. 14:17You don't just want to have a Wikipedia
  396. 14:19of other people's thoughts and ideas.
  397. 14:21Like this is where you start to wrangle
  398. 14:22with what you want this note to host.
  399. 14:26Because Sisyphus in the future you might
  400. 14:29write an article or you might have a
  401. 14:32story that you need to tell for a
  402. 14:34Toastmasters or public speaking
  403. 14:35organization.
  404. 14:37Or you just want to use it in a for me
  405. 14:40for YouTube videos. I might want to talk
  406. 14:42about Sisyphus or you just interested in
  407. 14:44learning mythology.
  408. 14:47This is when you can start referencing
  409. 14:49this note because you created it and by
  410. 14:52referencing it,
  411. 14:54you are building upon existing
  412. 14:56knowledge.
  413. 14:57So all information
  414. 15:00from your brain here.
  415. 15:04And then you might ask AI to just clean
  416. 15:06it up after you've typed everything else
  417. 15:08on what you want [clears throat] this
  418. 15:10note to contain.
  419. 15:13So we made a note of Sisyphus.
  420. 15:16Uh
  421. 15:17something else life doesn't pause your
  422. 15:18dreams. Nobody cares but you. The weight
  423. 15:20of unrealized goals. So there might be
  424. 15:22some cool things that pops out when you
  425. 15:25get the key takeaways in this format
  426. 15:27that you might not have written down
  427. 15:29yourself. So, this is how we use AI just
  428. 15:32to speed up this process.
  429. 15:34Now, when we go back to our source, we
  430. 15:36might add
  431. 15:39and go add the tags and summary for that
  432. 15:41source as well.
  433. 15:43So, here we have the summary and just
  434. 15:46some tags and then you might say, "Oh,
  435. 15:48well, this is on missology
  436. 15:53as well.
  437. 15:54Uh goals, persistence, mindset, running.
  438. 15:57Uh not really.
  439. 15:59He uses running as the example, but it's
  440. 16:00not about running, so I don't want that
  441. 16:01to pop up under my running notes.
  442. 16:04So, now if we go back to the source,
  443. 16:07the source space, you can see that we
  444. 16:09have Sisyphus and the Impossible Dream,
  445. 16:11Casey,
  446. 16:12and we have the summary, we have the
  447. 16:13source, we have the tags.
  448. 16:15And here we have file links. So, these
  449. 16:18are links that we created in that note.
  450. 16:20So, you can see that there's information
  451. 16:23flowing into our system from [snorts]
  452. 16:25this note. So, if you go back to it and
  453. 16:28we say
  454. 16:29open local graph,
  455. 16:31you can see that these
  456. 16:33this little dot here coming from that
  457. 16:35source, that is information entering our
  458. 16:38knowledge base.
  459. 16:40And
  460. 16:42this is the link that traditional
  461. 16:44save-it-for-later applications are
  462. 16:46missing.
  463. 16:48There's no link between the source and
  464. 16:51what you decide to enter into your life.
  465. 16:54This is broken.
  466. 16:55But now, for the rest of my life,
  467. 16:57whenever I think, write, talk about
  468. 17:00Sisyphus,
  469. 17:01this note would then expand into
  470. 17:04different areas within my thinking. And
  471. 17:07I actually think I do have
  472. 17:10a note about Sisyphus, and I do. So,
  473. 17:12here I have Sisyphus.
  474. 17:15Sisyphus was a figure in Greek mythology
  475. 17:17condemned to roll a boulder up a hill
  476. 17:19only for it to roll back down each time
  477. 17:21he neared the top symbolizing endless
  478. 17:23futile labor.
  479. 17:24And it's titled The Myth of Sisyphus.
  480. 17:27So, this is an old note which I would
  481. 17:29then
  482. 17:30imagine that I didn't have this note.
  483. 17:32That is what I would write in this
  484. 17:36note. This is maybe a bad example. I'm
  485. 17:38just going to merge these two. You can
  486. 17:40see I'm still using the old text
  487. 17:41structure, but the new text structure
  488. 17:43should say
  489. 17:44Greek mythology
  490. 17:46mythology character for instance.
  491. 17:49But, I don't want this.
  492. 17:52So, I'm just going to
  493. 17:57merge them.
  494. 18:05So, now we have the Sisyphus linked to
  495. 18:07this note as well. And this is how you
  496. 18:08build knowledge. So, then you can see
  497. 18:10with the knowledge growth Sisyphus.
  498. 18:14This is the different places
  499. 18:17that it relates to. So, on this day I
  500. 18:19did something with Sisyphus.
  501. 18:22On future vacation approach to life. I
  502. 18:24have no idea what that is.
  503. 18:28We tend to delay gratification in the
  504. 18:30hope that something better will happen
  505. 18:31in the future instead of enjoying the
  506. 18:32present moment.
  507. 18:34You're doomed like Sisyphus in The Myth
  508. 18:36of Sisyphus. Okay, so this is where this
  509. 18:38note originated.
  510. 18:41So, it's just nice to then see
  511. 18:44how this Sisyphus and The Myth of
  512. 18:47Sisyphus might relate to this idea we
  513. 18:49tend to delay gratification
  514. 18:51in the hope that something better will
  515. 18:52happen in the future instead of enjoying
  516. 18:54the present moment.
  517. 18:56So, this is quite cool because then you
  518. 19:00can obviously see this web of how the
  519. 19:02sources are actively helping you produce
  520. 19:05thoughts and helping you produce ideas.
  521. 19:07And let's think. Okay, so
  522. 19:10we digress. We are
  523. 19:12talking about the source base. So, the
  524. 19:15source base
  525. 19:18We have all of this. So, how do we
  526. 19:19actually create this? Well, you go to
  527. 19:21the side panel, right click, new base,
  528. 19:24and then you can rename the new base.
  529. 19:27So, this would basically say table or
  530. 19:28something like that. Can rename it to
  531. 19:30sources.
  532. 19:32Make sure that table, the layout is
  533. 19:33table, and the row height is tall.
  534. 19:36And now we want to populate this table
  535. 19:40with the necessary columns that we want.
  536. 19:42So, file name, image, cover, summary,
  537. 19:44that you just do by going to properties
  538. 19:46and just clicking everything.
  539. 19:48And then the only one that's a little
  540. 19:49bit different, like as you can see in
  541. 19:52these notes, we have property called
  542. 19:54source, and this is where we
  543. 19:56automatically grab
  544. 19:58the YouTube video, which [clears throat]
  545. 20:00basically returns its thumbnail.
  546. 20:03We create a new Can see this little
  547. 20:05formula. We create a new property, which
  548. 20:07you can do by add formula.
  549. 20:09Give the formula name and add the
  550. 20:12formula. And the formula would be this,
  551. 20:14image cover. So, we're just taking the
  552. 20:16cover property and converting it to an
  553. 20:19image so that it displays here.
  554. 20:23Then we have summary, source, tags,
  555. 20:24area, type, created, file backlinks, and
  556. 20:26file inlinks, and we spoke about how
  557. 20:29important that is.
  558. 20:31And then we have untitled, which should
  559. 20:33not be there. So, I'm just going to
  560. 20:34delete this.
  561. 20:36Uh that's the one we just created.
  562. 20:39And this is basically your source base.
  563. 20:41So, now you can go through and you can
  564. 20:43actually see
  565. 20:44which sources don't have any inlinks or
  566. 20:49backlinks.
  567. 20:50So, for this one,
  568. 20:51there's no connections, but this is one
  569. 20:53of my videos.
  570. 20:54So, this would probably be connected.
  571. 20:57I'll still have to connect it to the
  572. 20:58project of creating that video. So,
  573. 21:00let's take this Claude Code plus
  574. 21:02Obsidian base AI-driven knowledge base,
  575. 21:03cuz I'm learning a lot about Claude Code
  576. 21:05and Obsidian. There's no links, and it's
  577. 21:07now a month later. A I might come back
  578. 21:10to this video and see if there's
  579. 21:12anything that I want to take from it.
  580. 21:15And if there's not, that is when I
  581. 21:17delete it. And this is the the
  582. 21:19difference between a traditional source
  583. 21:21or save-it-later app and Obsidian is you
  584. 21:23can actually see if you're using that
  585. 21:25source or not. If it's
  586. 21:27um being part of a lineage of thinking,
  587. 21:30which has value in itself, that gives
  588. 21:32you the opportunity to go to the next
  589. 21:34level of thinking, not just reactive
  590. 21:35thinking, but by looking at how you form
  591. 21:38the thoughts and ideas and projects and
  592. 21:40how projects were completed and how you
  593. 21:41handle with tasks. That in itself is a
  594. 21:44higher level of thinking.
  595. 21:46Structuring is thinking. Don't fool
  596. 21:48yourself.
  597. 21:49But if I see it's not valuable, that is
  598. 21:51when I delete it.
  599. 21:54But
  600. 21:55if I see something has folded into
  601. 21:58something else, so here I made a couple
  602. 21:59of notes.
  603. 22:01Wide, medium, tight shots on how to
  604. 22:03document your life.
  605. 22:05This is a source that I will never
  606. 22:06delete because I would
  607. 22:08want to see how I
  608. 22:12finish projects, how my thoughts
  609. 22:13develop, because I can, cuz we have the
  610. 22:15lineage.
  611. 22:16So if I go into it
  612. 22:17and I go to local graph,
  613. 22:21I can see all my thinking. So here I can
  614. 22:24see that I linked it to
  615. 22:28a videography, cinematography,
  616. 22:29photography article that I'm planning to
  617. 22:31write in the future cuz for some reason
  618. 22:34photography interests me.
  619. 22:36And here I created a note from that
  620. 22:40video, which I wrote in my own words,
  621. 22:42wide shot, medium shot, tight shot, why
  622. 22:44is this important? Now I can just reuse
  623. 22:46this in future articles and videos.
  624. 22:49All my thinking, or if I'm trying to
  625. 22:51explain
  626. 22:53I'm not a photographer, but I can hand
  627. 22:56off all of my knowledge to somebody
  628. 22:57quite easily because of how I'm
  629. 22:59structuring it.
  630. 23:01But again, we digress. We were busy
  631. 23:04building the Obsidian base.
  632. 23:07So, filters.
  633. 23:08Very easy. File path does not contain
  634. 23:11template and the type contains source.
  635. 23:14And that's pretty much it.
  636. 23:16So, we have the properties, we have the
  637. 23:19two filters, and that is your entire
  638. 23:21source base.
  639. 23:23So, to recap, we go to YouTube, we go to
  640. 23:27an article, we
  641. 23:30decide that we want to clip it, we use
  642. 23:32the Obsidian Web Clipper,
  643. 23:34we paste the transcript if it's a
  644. 23:36YouTube video
  645. 23:38that you can find here by show
  646. 23:39transcript, and then just copy paste
  647. 23:42into the Obsidian Web Clipper.
  648. 23:46And while you're watching the video,
  649. 23:47that is when you will
  650. 23:49come to Obsidian.
  651. 23:52And you'll give yourself some key
  652. 23:54takeaways.
  653. 23:55And if a key takeaway resonates with
  654. 23:57you, that is when you will create that
  655. 23:59note. And that's when you will step away
  656. 24:01from the source and fill it in in your
  657. 24:03own words.
  658. 24:04And you can then branch out from here.
  659. 24:07It's like the myth of Sisyphus. So,
  660. 24:08Sisyphus was the king. The myth of
  661. 24:10Sisyphus was what?
  662. 24:12Clever but deceitful king angered the
  663. 24:13gods by repeatedly cheating death. As
  664. 24:15punishment, he was condemned to an
  665. 24:17eternity in the underworld where he was
  666. 24:18forced to roll a massive boulder up a
  667. 24:20hill. Each time he neared the top, the
  668. 24:21boulder would roll back down making his
  669. 24:23efforts forever futile.
  670. 24:25And then I have my own interpretation.
  671. 24:27That is basically the whole process.
  672. 24:28Now, you might wonder this is a source
  673. 24:30base for just raw sources, but in the
  674. 24:33future we might want to return all notes
  675. 24:36related to
  676. 24:37uh Claude code, for instance.
  677. 24:40Or let's take
  678. 24:42longevity. Longevity is a good one.
  679. 24:46So, what you would do is you'll create a
  680. 24:48new note, and
  681. 24:51I'll call it longevity
  682. 24:54index. So, this is a page where I want
  683. 24:56to see all my longevity-related notes,
  684. 24:58meetings, work sessions, notes I created
  685. 25:00with the tag longevity.
  686. 25:02And we just use knowledge base by tag.
  687. 25:05So, this is part of my project base
  688. 25:07series, but we can use it here as well.
  689. 25:09And the tag that we're looking for is
  690. 25:11longevity.
  691. 25:13So, now we can see all of the notes that
  692. 25:15we've ever mentioned with the tag
  693. 25:17longevity. So, the reason why my
  694. 25:19longevity is not popping up is because I
  695. 25:21still have the old tag, which was on
  696. 25:24longevity. So, you can see when I put on
  697. 25:26longevity, these notes pops up. So, I
  698. 25:29might want to change that quickly.
  699. 25:31Uh let's go to
  700. 25:33tags.
  701. 25:35And let's look for
  702. 25:38on
  703. 25:39longevity. So, I'm migrating the on tag.
  704. 25:42We don't need it anymore
  705. 25:44because of bases.
  706. 25:45Just to
  707. 25:47remove the on because it makes more
  708. 25:49sense. It's easier to do as well.
  709. 25:51So, now we have all of the tags on
  710. 25:53longevity, and you can see
  711. 25:56uh sulforaphane. I've no idea what that
  712. 25:59is. So, let's go look at what
  713. 26:01sulforaphane is.
  714. 26:04This is an old note. So, this is all the
  715. 26:06benefits of sulforaphane, which you find
  716. 26:10in broccoli. So, consume
  717. 26:13cruciferous
  718. 26:15vegetables, broccoli, brussels sprouts,
  719. 26:17cabbage, similar vegetables, and a
  720. 26:18specific way to get the sulforaphane to
  721. 26:21be activated.
  722. 26:23So, this is how you would extract
  723. 26:26information on
  724. 26:28longevity. So, you might ask, what does
  725. 26:30this base look like? Well, we have
  726. 26:33filter, and these are the tags that we
  727. 26:35use, but you can also go download my
  728. 26:37project base from the previous video,
  729. 26:40which would have this knowledge base by
  730. 26:42tag, which you use the template.
  731. 26:45And you can see it's a little bit
  732. 26:49funky-looking because I'm using a bunch
  733. 26:52of code that if I create this from
  734. 26:54another place, it automatically falls in
  735. 26:55the tags and up.
  736. 26:58But,
  737. 26:59what it looks like when you go to source
  738. 27:02mode is just this. So, we're referencing
  739. 27:03the project base knowledge base by tag.
  740. 27:06And what does that base look like?
  741. 27:08Just has a filter for these three.
  742. 27:10Where the file tags contains this file
  743. 27:12link,
  744. 27:13so longevity,
  745. 27:15where the file name is not this file
  746. 27:16name just so this file is not being
  747. 27:18returned,
  748. 27:19and where the tags aren't empty.
  749. 27:22So, these three gets you your longevity
  750. 27:25index by just putting in longevity.
  751. 27:29So, to recap, we have a source base. We
  752. 27:32want to populate the sources and we
  753. 27:33actually want to use the sources because
  754. 27:36if it's not being used, that's when we
  755. 27:38cut it. We ruthlessly delete it. We
  756. 27:41eliminate it from our system.
  757. 27:43And the way that we do that is we go to
  758. 27:46the YouTube or any article, and we just
  759. 27:50go to extensions,
  760. 27:51Obsidian Web Clipper, make sure
  761. 27:53everything is correct, fill in the
  762. 27:55transcript if needed, add to Obsidian,
  763. 27:58and then you [clears throat] fill in
  764. 28:00your key takeaways.
  765. 28:03This is where you actually create the
  766. 28:05knowledge. So, you go out and you
  767. 28:07actually create that knowledge. And then
  768. 28:09this knowledge becomes
  769. 28:11part of your second brain.
  770. 28:13Can see this is old format, so don't
  771. 28:16look too deeply into the structure.
  772. 28:19My new structure is way more simplified
  773. 28:21node templates. So, my new structure is
  774. 28:23just this. And
  775. 28:26this
