- 0:02YouTube has released a series of
- 0:04updates to the requirements for
- 0:06monetizing and continuing to monetize,
- 0:09which will begin to apply starting
- 0:11January 1st, 2027. Before you get
- 0:15scared, YouTube has already stated that
- 0:18if you are currently monetizing or
- 0:20manage to monetize within this year,
- 0:232026, almost nothing changes for you.
- 0:27But that "almost nothing" is precisely
- 0:30the subject of this video: ad
- 0:33monetization on Shorts videos. If you
- 0:42have ad monetization active for your
- 0:45Shorts videos, YouTube, in its infinite
- 0:48wisdom, will require you to maintain a
- 0:51minimum of 10 million valid public
- 0:54views for YouTube in your last 90 days
- 0:57in order to collect revenue. YouTube
- 1:02will evaluate this figure month by
- 1:05month. If in that month you do not
- 1:09reach that threshold for the period
- 1:11being evaluated—and I repeat, 10
- 1:14million views on your Shorts videos in
- 1:16your recent 90 days—you will not get
- 1:19paid that month and will lose ad
- 1:22monetization on Shorts. Before you
- 1:27panic, YouTube also clarifies that it
- 1:29doesn't matter if you lose ad
- 1:32monetization on Shorts; this does not
- 1:34affect ads on your long-form videos,
- 1:37nor memberships, donations like Super
- 1:40Chat, gifts, or shopping features,
- 1:42which will not be affected at all. Even
- 1:48within Shorts themselves, monetization
- 1:50options like donations and shopping
- 1:52will continue to work as always, and
- 1:53you will continue to receive money
- 1:55through those channels. With this, you
- 1:58are likely asking yourself the
- 2:00following quite valid questions. What
- 2:02happens if I do reach the required goal
- 2:04the following month? Do I have to
- 2:07re-apply for the Shorts monetization
- 2:09program? Can I collect that money
- 2:12accumulated from views during the month
- 2:15I couldn't get paid, provided I hit the
- 2:17goal the following month, and so on?
- 2:21Unfortunately, as of today, August 10th
- 2:23, 2026, YouTube has not answered any of
- 2:26these questions, neither in their help
- 2:29center nor in their official videos
- 2:31published on this topic. The help
- 2:36documentation regarding Shorts
- 2:38monetization is not even updated. So,
- 2:41when there is a real update that at
- 2:44least answers these valid questions, I
- 2:46will share them as my personal opinion.
- 2:50This measure will now lead me to stop
- 2:52making Shorts videos entirely. Not even
- 2:56at the channel's best moment have I
- 2:58reached one million views in 90 days. I
- 3:01am certainly not going to dream of 10
- 3:03million views in 3 months. So, circling
- 3:06back, remember that these changes begin
- 3:09to apply starting February 1st, 2027.
- 3:13There are other very important updates
- 3:15that I will talk about in upcoming
- 3:17videos. As always, everyone stay very,
- 3:21very calm. First, this will affect all
- 3:27channels that are currently monetizing
- 3:29or those that monetize through 2026.
- 3:34All of these channels will be required
- 3:37to accept the new YouTube Partner
- 3:39Program terms of service, as well as
- 3:41modifications to the module contracts.
- 3:45The deadline to accept these new terms
- 3:50is January 31, 2027, as the new
- 3:54monetization requirements and terms go
- 3:59into effect starting February 1, 2027.
- 4:05If you do not accept these contracts
- 4:08and terms, YouTube says you may no
- 4:10longer monetize that module, or you
- 4:12might not be accepted as a YouTube
- 4:15partner at all, which would mean no
- 4:17monetization for your entire channel.
- 4:21So, the recommendation is to accept all
- 4:24terms and modifications for the
- 4:27different modules that the platform
- 4:30requests. I mention these modules
- 4:33because YouTube itself explains that,
- 4:36since monetization programs have been
- 4:38divided into different modules with
- 4:41their own contracts for some time,
- 4:43there will be new ways to monetize in
- 4:45the future that will merge with other
- 4:48modules. These modules will also change
- 4:52names and so on. Even the date you
- 4:56accepted the previous contract may lead
- 5:00YouTube, in some cases, to ask you for
- 5:04a new contract for a specific module or
- 5:08perhaps for several different modules
- 5:12when the notification appears.
- 5:17Therefore, to keep things simple, just
- 5:19accept everything YouTube asks you to
- 5:22accept regarding monetization. Of
- 5:25course, the important thing is to
- 5:27accept the terms of service and then
- 5:29accept the contracts for the modules
- 5:31you are interested in monetizing. Very
- 5:35importantly, these terms must only be
- 5:38accepted within YouTube Studio itself,
- 5:41whether from a computer or a mobile
- 5:43device. Please ignore any email asking
- 5:49you to click on links inside that email
- 5:52. You must not do that under any
- 5:54circumstances. Everything is accepted
- 5:57within YouTube Studio itself, where the
- 5:59corresponding notifications will appear
- 6:01. So don't worry, we have until January
- 6:0631 for that notification to appear, for
- 6:09you to accept the terms of service with
- 6:11their respective module variants, and
- 6:14thus avoid these problems. Those who
- 6:18are already monetizing in 2027,
- 6:21especially after February 1 of that
- 6:24year, will already have the updated
- 6:28modules, contracts, and, of course,
- 6:31some new, very rich requirements that
- 6:34we will see in another video, so don't
- 6:38be scared when you see the terms of
- 6:41service. As always, be patient. As many
- 6:46of you may already know, YouTube is
- 6:48making several changes to its
- 6:50monetization rules and requirements
- 6:52that will apply in 2027. We have
- 6:54already discussed several important
- 6:56points in other videos. Today we will
- 6:58look at what YouTube now considers an
- 7:00active channel and, of course, an
- 7:02inactive channel which will have
- 7:04consequences. This is important because
- 7:08YouTube says that if, starting February
- 7:111, 2027, the platform considers your
- 7:14channel inactive, it may demonetize it.
- 7:18It should be clarified that
- 7:20demonetization due to inactivity has
- 7:22always existed on the platform, but it
- 7:23was previously applied at YouTube's
- 7:25discretion. Some channels were affected
- 7:28and others were not. However,
- 7:31considering how YouTube is now applying
- 7:34infractions like the circumvention
- 7:36policy, it seems they will now also
- 7:38enforce this rule. With all this in
- 7:42mind, what is the minimum activity
- 7:44YouTube will require so we are not
- 7:46considered an inactive channel? To do
- 7:50this, you must meet at least one of the
- 7:53following options. That is, it is not
- 7:56mandatory to meet all of them, only one
- 7:59of these two options. Let's start with
- 8:02the easiest one to understand. Option
- 8:04one: upload at least two long-form
- 8:07videos or five Shorts in your last 90
- 8:10days at a minimum. As you can see, this
- 8:14should be very easy to meet and thereby
- 8:16prevent your channel from being
- 8:18considered inactive. But if for some
- 8:21reason you cannot upload videos every
- 8:2490 days, then you have option two:
- 8:26maintain a minimum of public
- 8:28interactions in the following type of
- 8:31content. If you upload long-form videos
- 8:36—and with long-form videos we also
- 8:38include streams—you must continue to
- 8:41accumulate at least 1,000 hours of
- 8:44watch time in your last 365 days.
- 8:47Remember that we are not talking about
- 8:49a calendar year, but we count from the
- 8:52current date to 365 days ago. Now, if
- 8:57you actually dedicate yourself to
- 8:59making Shorts or consider that you can
- 9:02meet the requirements with the Shorts
- 9:04format, then if you focus on that, you
- 9:06must maintain at least 1 million valid
- 9:09public views. And by valid, we refer to
- 9:13interested views, which are different
- 9:15from the view that YouTube currently
- 9:17counts. Video about the differences
- 9:20here. And again, within your recent 90
- 9:24days. I clarify again. You do not need
- 9:27to meet the interactions for your
- 9:29Shorts and at the same time the
- 9:31interactions for your long-form videos.
- 9:34At this point, only one of those two.
- 9:37And if you cannot meet those two by
- 9:39uploading videos, as I mentioned in
- 9:41option number one. For many this will
- 9:44seem easy, but there are several
- 9:46creators who, for various reasons,
- 9:47abandon their channels for months. That
- 9:50is why it is important to know these
- 9:52minimums so you don't lose your
- 9:54monetization. These rules go into
- 9:58effect starting February 1st, 2027, so
- 10:00as always, be very careful. By now,
- 10:06most of you have probably heard the
- 10:08news. The requirements for monetizing
- 10:12with ads on YouTube change starting
- 10:14February 1st, 2027. But anyway, I am
- 10:18just now making a video on the subject,
- 10:19which will serve as a record for my
- 10:21channel. Well, let’s start with the
- 10:23most important part. First, this
- 10:26increase only applies to ad
- 10:28monetization on your long-form videos
- 10:31and Shorts. The ways to monetize
- 10:35through donations, memberships,
- 10:36shopping, and the option to be a
- 10:38YouTube partner with lower requirements
- 10:40. All of that remains exactly the same,
- 10:44and nothing changes. Secondly, if your
- 10:49channel is already monetizing with ads
- 10:51right now, this update does not affect
- 10:54you at all. You won't lose your
- 10:57monetization, and you won't have to
- 10:59meet the new requirements next year.
- 11:02The rule applies only to those looking
- 11:05to monetize starting February 1st, 2027
- 11:08. Keeping all that in mind, the new
- 11:12requirements to activate ad
- 11:14monetization will be the following. The
- 11:17number of subscribers remains at a
- 11:19minimum of 1,000 subscribers; it
- 11:21doesn't change at all. Now, for the
- 11:24following requirements, you only need
- 11:26to complete one of the two, not both;
- 11:28they are optional. The first option:
- 11:32watch time on your long-form videos.
- 11:35Previously, the requirement asked for
- 11:384,000 hours, and now it will ask for
- 11:418,000 hours of watch time in your
- 11:44recent 365 days. Remember that this is
- 11:49not video views, but the accumulated
- 11:52time users spend watching your content.
- 11:56If you don't want to complete this
- 11:58watch time option, you have the other
- 12:01option, which is views on Shorts. Here
- 12:04we go from 10 million to having to
- 12:08complete 20 million views on your
- 12:12Shorts in your recent 90 days. I
- 12:16emphasize: you only need to meet one of
- 12:19the two options, either watch time or
- 12:22Shorts views, not both. By completing
- 12:26either one, you will be able to enable
- 12:29paid ad monetization across all your
- 12:32video formats. Without a doubt, this
- 12:34will make monetization very difficult
- 12:36for new YouTubers, but these are the
- 12:38requirements YouTube is imposing. This
- 12:40just begins starting February 1st, 2027
- 12:44. As always, have a lot of patience.
- 12:49This video is part of the series about
- 12:51the monetization updates that YouTube
- 12:53will apply in the year 2027. We have
- 12:56already reviewed the new requirements
- 12:59to monetize, the new rule to maintain
- 13:01Shorts revenue, and what the platform
- 13:03now considers an inactive channel.
- 13:05Today we will look at what YouTube has
- 13:08promised as new income for YouTubers,
- 13:10although for me, honestly, many of
- 13:12these are just wishful thinking and
- 13:14some lean into a scam, and it is
- 13:16exactly with this one that I want to
- 13:18start. Expansion of YouTube Premium
- 13:20Lite. This is a more affordable version
- 13:23of YouTube Premium that would arrive in
- 13:25all countries where the full premium
- 13:27version is already available. Here you
- 13:30might ask, "Hey, what does that have to
- 13:32do with creators earning more money or
- 13:34with monetization?" Well, I am going to
- 13:38read to you what YouTube itself says in
- 13:40its help center about this point.
- 13:43Creators earn more per user with
- 13:46Premium than with ads on videos. Well,
- 13:50the experience for most is that we earn
- 13:52practically pennies with YouTube
- 13:54Premium. YouTube's theory is that by
- 13:57being a cheaper plan, there will be
- 13:59more subscribers, and that will
- 14:01increase earnings through volume. In
- 14:04summary, this sounds more like a
- 14:06marketing strategy than real help for
- 14:09the platform's creators. Point two,
- 14:12bonuses and incentives for Shorts. We
- 14:15must remember that by February 1st,
- 14:172027, you will be required to maintain
- 14:2010 million views in your recent 90 days
- 14:22on your video Shorts to collect the
- 14:25money generated by your own video
- 14:27Shorts. To compensate for this
- 14:31requirement, YouTube, in its infinite
- 14:33mercy, proposes two incentives. First,
- 14:37targeted ads. You should know two
- 14:39things. First, the ads do not belong to
- 14:43YouTube, but to an advertiser who can
- 14:45configure the ads however they want
- 14:47because they are paying for that. And
- 14:50two, the ads that appear in the video
- 14:53Shorts feed. That ad does not belong to
- 14:58the video Short that comes after said
- 15:00ad, nor did it belong to the video
- 15:03Short before that ad, rather, the way
- 15:05of monetization on video Shorts is
- 15:08practically a cooperative. On the
- 15:11channel, I have an entire video of
- 15:13almost 20 minutes talking about this
- 15:15topic because it is the most complex
- 15:17thing YouTube has. But keeping these
- 15:20two considerations in mind, when
- 15:23YouTube refers to targeting ads, it is
- 15:26when an advertiser, in their own Google
- 15:29Ads configuration—which is the
- 15:31platform where ads are bought and
- 15:34configured—decides to place their ads
- 15:37specifically on your video Shorts. If
- 15:41that happens, YouTube will no longer
- 15:44apply the normal revenue sharing on
- 15:46video Shorts, which as I mentioned is
- 15:48like a cooperative, but will apply the
- 15:51same revenue sharing it applies to ads
- 15:53on long-form videos. Well, a little bit
- 15:56lower, which is 45%for you and the rest
- 15:59for YouTube and to pay for copyright.
- 16:01Second, bonuses for YouTube Shopping
- 16:03and affiliates. YouTube is promising
- 16:07rewards for enabling Shopping
- 16:09monetization on your channel,
- 16:11especially for your Shorts and using
- 16:13product tagging, selling affiliate
- 16:15products, and so on. In addition,
- 16:19YouTube will look to connect you with
- 16:21brands so you can run advertising
- 16:22campaigns selling their products. These
- 16:26two points I mentioned regarding video
- 16:28Shorts are all the information we have
- 16:31as of the day this video was published.
- 16:35There are no requirements, we don't
- 16:36know which countries it will be
- 16:38available in, nor the revenue share,
- 16:39nor what that type of bonus will be
- 16:41like, nothing, nor when it will be
- 16:43available. For now, these are just good
- 16:46wishes for 2027. And unfortunately,
- 16:49that is all. I would have liked for
- 16:52these to be monetization programs that
- 16:54could be within everyone's reach, but
- 16:56it seems that won't be the case. I hope
- 16:58that changes. First, for YouTube, this
- 17:04new feature called Stations is still an
- 17:06experiment, although it is already a
- 17:08global experiment, but it will only be
- 17:10available to creators selected by
- 17:12YouTube itself. What is it about?
- 17:16You've surely seen channels that stream
- 17:18live 24 hours a day, and until now, to
- 17:21do that, you needed streaming software
- 17:23and the knowledge, of course, to handle
- 17:26those settings; but with the new
- 17:28Stations feature, all that changes and
- 17:31becomes easy by now being a native
- 17:33YouTube function. You will only have to
- 17:38create or select a playlist with your
- 17:40videos, and in the near future, videos
- 17:43from other channels, and thus you will
- 17:46create a native stream that YouTube
- 17:48will loop every 24 hours for 7 days,
- 17:50that is, a permanent stream. But most
- 17:55importantly, YouTube will create an
- 17:56exclusive section on YouTube to
- 17:58highlight these broadcasts, giving them
- 18:00greater visibility. YouTube seeks to
- 18:03recreate the continuous programming of
- 18:06television and establish itself as the
- 18:08new global television. For now, and as
- 18:11I mentioned, it is an experiment and we
- 18:14don't have images of what this setup
- 18:16might look like or how these streams
- 18:18will appear, so patience and good luck.
- 18:24First, this update is for all channels
- 18:26on the platform, whether they monetize
- 18:28or not, but as always happens with new
- 18:30features. The update may take time to
- 18:32roll out to everyone, but it will
- 18:34arrive sooner or later. Let's review
- 18:37the two key changes for the claims
- 18:39system within YouTube Studio. Change
- 18:42one: from copyright to claims. Here we
- 18:47are talking about the copyright tab we
- 18:49found inside the video details; that is
- 18:52, we enter the video we want to see
- 18:54that tab in, and on the left side,
- 18:56there used to be what was called the
- 18:58copyright tab. This is now being
- 19:02renamed the claims tab. Why this change
- 19:05? If you follow this channel, you'll
- 19:08know that YouTube allows you to request
- 19:10the removal of videos if someone uses
- 19:12your likeness without permission to
- 19:14generate AI content. This is handled as
- 19:18a privacy claim. Currently, any
- 19:22YouTuber can make this claim using
- 19:24YouTube's own likeness tools, although
- 19:27to use them, you must send your
- 19:29biometric information to Google. And
- 19:34here we are talking about a video
- 19:35recording of your face and official
- 19:37documents. But getting back to it,
- 19:41since these unauthorized AI likeness
- 19:43claims don't fully fit the traditional
- 19:46concept of copyright, YouTube decided
- 19:49to rename the section with a more
- 19:51general term, so it will simply be
- 19:53called the claims tab. Change two, new
- 19:57appeal options. The second change
- 20:00brings new alternatives for appealing.
- 20:04If your video receives a privacy or
- 20:06likeness claim for AI content, you now
- 20:09have three specific options to defend
- 20:12yourself. One, parody or satire context
- 20:16. You can choose this option to argue
- 20:20that you have used another person's
- 20:22likeness under the framework of parody
- 20:25or satire. In these cases, prior
- 20:28authorization is not required to use
- 20:30said person's likeness. However, be
- 20:34very careful, because the line between
- 20:37satire or parody and insulting or
- 20:39denigrating a person is very thin, and
- 20:42YouTube's AI reviewer is not very
- 20:44precise. Two, permission via contract.
- 20:49You can appeal that claim by proving
- 20:51you have a contract or authorization
- 20:54signed by the person whose image you
- 20:56are using in your content. And three,
- 21:00it was a mistake. You can select this
- 21:03option if you believe the algorithm
- 21:05made an obvious error and the person
- 21:07appearing in your video has no relation
- 21:10to the claimant. A point to keep in
- 21:14mind: YouTube has already confirmed
- 21:16that soon it will also be possible to
- 21:19make claims for voice cloning using
- 21:22artificial intelligence. This is not
- 21:24active yet, but it is something that
- 21:27will definitely arrive for everyone one
- 21:29day. In summary, the copyright tab is
- 21:32now called claims to be more inclusive.
- 21:36With the new claim types, we now have
- 21:39specific tools to appeal privacy claims
- 21:42involving artificial intelligence.
- 21:46These updates will arrive sooner or
- 21:48later for all channels, so as always,
- 21:51be very careful. Starting today,
- 21:56YouTube is changing how it counts views
- 21:58across all its video formats. Well, it
- 22:02already applied this to Shorts, but to
- 22:04understand it simply, there are now two
- 22:07ways that views are counted. The common
- 22:11view, or the view count that appears
- 22:13next to your video, which is this,
- 22:15versus what is now called an interested
- 22:17view. And it is this interested view
- 22:21that you should really care about. From
- 22:25this moment on, it will be enough for a
- 22:28video to play for one second or even
- 22:31less for the YouTube system to count it
- 22:34as a common view. Even in the latest
- 22:39video from the official YouTube channel
- 22:41, they clarify that it also counts if
- 22:44you are browsing the YouTube homepage
- 22:46and hover your mouse over a thumbnail
- 22:49so it plays. That single playback is
- 22:53enough for it to be counted as a view.
- 22:57Here I repeat and reaffirm what I said
- 23:00in my videos when this update was
- 23:02released. This change only helps
- 23:06YouTube inflate global metrics for
- 23:08advertisers and shareholders to say how
- 23:11successful they are by the number of
- 23:13views they are getting, and it is not a
- 23:16real benefit for creators or even for
- 23:19the platform's users. Therefore, from
- 23:23now on, I recommend that you focus on
- 23:26what is called the interested view,
- 23:29which is also hidden, because for now,
- 23:32you will only be able to find it on
- 23:35long-form videos, in the statistics of
- 23:38each video in advanced mode, and we
- 23:41hope this changes in the future. Why is
- 23:44this interested view so important?
- 23:47Because it is what the YouTube
- 23:49recommendation system actually analyzes
- 23:51to see if your video is satisfactory to
- 23:54users, thus being an important factor
- 23:56in potentially recommending your
- 23:58content. Likewise, this metric will be
- 24:03used for revenue sharing, calculating
- 24:05monetization requirements, and so on.
- 24:09Everything important, all the
- 24:11calculations you make regarding
- 24:13monetization, interaction, and the
- 24:15importance of your channel, you should
- 24:18base on this interested view metric,
- 24:20not the common view. To understand it,
- 24:24just because you have more,
- 24:25quote-unquote, common views, does not
- 24:27mean that the YouTube system will
- 24:29improve your recommendations because of
- 24:31that. Because the YouTube system is
- 24:34based on analyzing your interested
- 24:36views. Because of this, I think this is
- 24:39a bad update, but I also mention what I
- 24:42always say in these kinds of videos:
- 24:44Google, YouTube, their platform, and
- 24:47their rules. Patience and success to
- 24:50everyone. Yeah.
