- 0:00Not every decision that you make has to
- 0:02be rooted on that. Sometimes you just
- 0:03have to add value to people's lives.
- 0:05>> Yes, true.
- 0:09But it takes time, strength, and effort
- 0:12to be a good one. Yeah. When you're
- 0:13growing up, it's not a competition with
- 0:15other people. It's really just trying to
- 0:17be a better person than you were before.
- 0:20The meaning of success used to be for me
- 0:21hustle, hustle, hustle. Now, no. Rest is
- 0:24my definition of success. If you have
- 0:26the time to rest, you are successful.
- 0:29Your priorities are all in check. Then,
- 0:32if so, you can enjoy the fruit of your
- 0:34labor. That's not a bad thing.
- 0:36>> [music]
- 0:40>> But before we get into that, if you're

- 0:55>> What's up, you guys? And welcome to
- 0:56another episode of Adulting with Joyce
- 0:58Spring. I feel like I'm in a time
- 1:00capsule of some sort because one of my
- 1:03most
- 1:05tagged episodes, one of the oldest
- 1:07episodes that I had on the podcast, was
- 1:10this was with this inspiring woman.
- 1:14When she was I think that was your first
- 1:17guesting on a podcast. She was busy
- 1:20building her business. She was doing all
- 1:22of these different things in her life.
- 1:24And now she is officially back in the
- 1:26Philippines for a visit. And she made
- 1:30time to be on the podcast. Please
- 1:32welcome once again Miss Angeli Dy.
- 1:37>> [laughter]
- 1:42[laughter]
- 1:44>> Hi. Thank you so much.
- 1:51I'm still the same Angeli.
- 1:56>> [laughter]
- 1:57>> It's That episode was 2018. Can you
- 2:00believe it?
- 2:10Sorry, 2019. I don't know about
- 2:13Oh, you 2020 but I am first episode and
- 2:16then 5 years ago.
- 2:19So many
- 2:23That was earlier but
- 2:25Uh no, I know that. It's 2020 of March
- 2:28because you remember we had that
- 2:30conversation I was online. No, no, no.
- 2:33There We were in the studio and then
- 2:34people were saying we're going to
- 2:36lock down. But then they're going to
- 2:38close down and everything. Yes, it was.
- 2:42But I'm
- 2:435 days before the lockdown.
- 2:47Yes.
- 2:48Oh, okay. So many things has happened
- 2:51since then. You moved to Spain. You got
- 2:53your masters. You built multiple
- 2:55businesses. How are you, girl? You look
- 2:59beautiful.
- 3:02>> [laughter]
- 3:05>> I'm okay. I've survived a lot of things
- 3:08and
- 3:09I'm proud of it. And I'm actually happy
- 3:11that I went through that. It really
- 3:13shaped me. It really helped me become
- 3:17who I am today.
- 3:36Yeah.
- 3:53Yeah, I I feel like that's such a
- 3:54beautiful perspective because
- 3:57to a certain extent, especially people
- 3:59who are very hardworking.
- 4:04We tend to do things on our own because
- 4:07we think that's the only way to go about
- 4:09things. And I think that's how I found
- 4:10my relationship with God to begin with
- 4:12because I don't I'm big at big at being
- 4:14God. There's too much. I am carrying too
- 4:17much. I'm working too much.
- 4:19I have too many things on my plate and I
- 4:21couldn't carry it anymore.
- 4:23So I'm glad to hear that. But I am
- 4:27I would say when you moved to a
- 4:29different country.
- 4:31How has life changed?
- 4:34God wise or everything?
- 4:35>> Everything. Tell us everything.
- 4:43So I moved to Spain. Wait, pandemic and
- 4:46Pandemic. Pandemic was very hard.
- 4:48Imagine my business was my whole life.
- 4:54That was done and test your skills go.
- 4:57Now okay, Angeli Dy. People say you're
- 4:59amazing. Your mom say you're great.
- 5:03But are you really great? Can you
- 5:05survive this?
- 5:18So that was the time first time going to
- 5:20experience can question going to go
- 5:22existence go.
- 5:24I was like
- 5:25Never going to go in my town and I say
- 5:27to
- 5:28I don't know what to do.
- 5:31This is spontaneous and I don't know
- 5:32what to do.
- 5:34I just surf. I don't know with the waves
- 5:37of life.
- 5:42There was no life. Life stopped.
- 5:45Especially with your life
- 5:46yeah.
- 5:51Somebody asked
- 5:56I
- 5:58said yes to everything.
- 6:04What's the point of questioning
- 6:06yourself? If you core
- 6:10you are that person. Yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 6:12yes, yes, yes.
- 6:14So
- 6:17I feel I am aligned with values.
- 6:20You can be both but I am not. Yeah.
- 6:26I can say I can start. Yes, yes, yes,
- 6:28yes, yes. I was driving coming here. So
- 6:31I can go.
- 6:32Angeli You're the same person.
- 6:39I don't think of that. Yeah. I just
- 6:41execute. That's apparently
- 6:44I don't know
- 6:45what I am going to do
- 6:47showing up. I am consistent doing
- 6:49things. My whole life has been like
- 6:51that. I just showed up.
- 6:55And you know, you know what some of the
- 6:58truly content and in their lives.
- 7:01They're not directed by this ideology of
- 7:05I don't know what I am going to do with
- 7:06it. Or I don't know what I am going to
- 7:08do with it. I don't know what I am going
- 7:09to do with it.
- 7:11Whatever. It's adding value to others
- 7:14and then figuring out along the way,
- 7:16okay, I'm adding value to this person.
- 7:18I'm just going to do this. You know, I'm
- 7:20just going to say yes and maybe I can
- 7:21learn something from it. I'll I'll make
- 7:23a good connection if anything. And
- 7:25that's the kind of character that a lot
- 7:27of young people sometimes miss out on
- 7:29today.
- 7:35Which of course you have to think about
- 7:36those things. But not every decision
- 7:38that you make has to be rooted on that.
- 7:40Sometimes you just have to add value to
- 7:42people's lives.
- 7:43>> Yes, true. There's one thing I don't
- 7:45know what to do in life.
- 7:47I don't know what to do
- 7:50but it takes time, strength, and effort
- 7:53to be a good one. But I'm not saying I'm
- 7:55perfect. I'm just saying I put effort
- 7:58into being a good person. Mhm. Life is
- 8:02not just about money and business.
- 8:03There's so many aspects of life that I
- 8:05don't know what to do.
- 8:08I don't know what to do. I've learned to
- 8:10live my life outside my business. Wow.
- 8:14My business is no longer my whole life.
- 8:23My 20s
- 8:25I don't know what I am going to do with
- 8:26my business. I love my work.
- 8:31But life comes in seasons. My 30s
- 8:37I don't know what I am going to do
- 8:38today. It's okay. I'm going to do
- 8:39something else. You know what I am going
- 8:41to do in Spain. When I moved to Spain
- 8:55When I moved to Spain, Joyce, people
- 8:56don't work on weekends. Wow.
- 9:00And they question me people in my
- 9:02environment. Why are we working on
- 9:04weekends?
- 9:06And there are some places that say no
- 9:08laptop on weekends. This space is
- 9:11no laptops. Oh, wow.
- 9:13for people
- 9:14and then I don't know. So
- 9:16I adjust go.
- 9:20It's never too late to change something.
- 9:23I don't know.
- 9:24Character development. I don't know what
- 9:26I am going to do. I don't know what I am
- 9:27going to do.
- 9:28I don't Yeah. I don't know what I am
- 9:29going to do. I do things.
- 9:33I don't know. Yeah, but I think that
- 9:35also comes that is a privilege that you
- 9:37afforded yourself. Because you cannot
- 9:39have that unless you worked hard and
- 9:41smart first and foremost. That's a
- 9:43privilege that you have to afford for
- 9:45yourself. I can do that now in your I
- 9:48also do that now in my 30s. I pick and
- 9:50choose the jobs that I want to do
- 9:51because I worked my butt off in my 20s.
- 9:54I I put my head down. I did everything
- 9:56that I had to do. I said yes to every
- 9:58opportunity. You know, quite
- 10:04because I wanted to build a life for
- 10:05myself where my time was mine.
- 10:09And I think that's such an important
- 10:10thing to talk about,
- 10:12you move to Spain, you're learning so
- 10:15many different cultures in your life,
- 10:17but you travel as your life.
- 10:24to travel. I fell in love with my life
- 10:27in Spain.
- 10:30I'm actually slowly
- 10:34I was going to shut it listen. And that
- 10:37is okay. I grieved a lot. Because you
- 10:41know my whole life here. Then I talked
- 10:43to a lot of people. Even
- 10:47who you are won't stay with you. You
- 10:49know, it's funny that you talk about
- 10:51grief and your a part of yourself not
- 10:54saying who you are. Cuz I was talking to
- 10:56a girlfriend of mine about this and
- 11:01life goes
- 11:02attack
- 11:04work 24/7. I am an intense workaholic.
- 11:09When when I was in my 20s, that was me.
- 11:11And then when I had children, I tried to
- 11:13be the same kind of person. I was
- 11:16working as much as I wanted to. My
- 11:18schedule was revolving around me, not
- 11:20not my son at that time. And then I just
- 11:23felt so miserable. And then I realized
- 11:25it was because I was forcing old rhythms
- 11:28into a new season.
- 11:30I had to grieve the fact that I'm no
- 11:33longer the same person. That I didn't
- 11:36want the same things anymore. That I
- 11:38couldn't do the same things anymore.
- 11:40That I had different priorities and that
- 11:42I had a different season in my life. So,
- 11:44I also had to evolve. And I think that's
- 11:47the most one of the most important
- 11:48things that you have to learn about when
- 11:49you're growing up. It's accepting the
- 11:51fact
- 11:56And I kind of just move on and and
- 11:59explore this new person that you're
- 12:01becoming. So, what have you been
- 12:03learning in this new season of your life
- 12:05that you're in right now? Okay, so but I
- 12:08moved to Spain because I was really in
- 12:10love with this man. He was the love of
- 12:12my life.
- 12:15My old version said he was the love of
- 12:18my life.
- 12:20But people leave. It's part of
- 12:23everything. I did not end up with him.
- 12:25Actually, last night
- 12:26I was driving with my mom. So, I become
- 12:29I did not end up with this guy.
- 12:33So, because I thought you knew me.
- 12:37I was going to end up with him. I was
- 12:38going to have a family and everything.
- 12:40That didn't happen. I should have tried
- 12:42to make reconnect this year.
- 12:47He was still doing the same things.
- 12:52Yeah. I realized I
- 12:55am a completely new person and I grieve
- 12:59last year October.
- 13:01A year ago.
- 13:02>> Mhm.
- 13:04I woke up. I was super super super sad.
- 13:08And normally when I used to personality
- 13:09go because even I am sad, I can find
- 13:12something to be happy.
- 13:14Yeah, you're a ball of energy.
- 13:15>> Oh, yes. I'm just like whatever.
- 13:21>> [laughter]
- 13:23>> That time last year October again a year
- 13:25ago, I was so sad, Joyce. I booked a
- 13:28trip to Croatia.
- 13:30I was
- 13:32sitting in a coffee shop in the morning
- 13:34after my run.
- 13:41Oh my I was like, I'm so sorry. It's
- 13:43just
- 13:44I'm just so sad. I don't know why.
- 13:47So, they were like, oh, it's okay.
- 13:50They were like, we thought you were
- 13:51British. I was like, I'm not British. I
- 13:52British. I can speak Filipino. You
- 13:53should tell me with me.
- 13:54>> [laughter]
- 13:55>> That was
- 13:56It was so good that I am
- 13:58I I can be just a human being. Yeah. I
- 14:01am in Europe and you know what I am
- 14:03going to do again but I am going to
- 14:0510 seconds later I am going to
- 14:08give up because they did not understand
- 14:10me.
- 14:11I am
- 14:12a new follower and it has nothing to do
- 14:15with that. Just because you have social
- 14:17media presence, it doesn't mean you
- 14:19don't have emotions. Yeah.
- 14:21>> It doesn't mean
- 14:25life is just about followers likes. At
- 14:27the end of the day, that means nothing.
- 14:29Yeah.
- 14:30At at some point, I am going to realize
- 14:33those things are nothing.
- 14:36Yeah.
- 14:37For us, it's just work. Yeah.
- 14:43So,
- 14:44now
- 14:48everything that happened in my life even
- 14:51you are sadness and I feel good last
- 14:52year. You know what I am grieving
- 14:55going to I was letting go now of
- 14:57everything.
- 14:58Who I've been my whole life in the
- 14:59Philippines. I
- 15:03am in Spain. I am going to
- 15:06see new people. I find myself being an
- 15:07introvert. Wow.
- 15:10Like after I'm going to shut myself now.
- 15:13I
- 15:14am just going to be in Madrid.
- 15:18I
- 15:20don't even lead tours anymore to access.
- 15:23I just learned that it's a new life
- 15:26goal. I just want to make it again.
- 15:31I can have a conversation with old
- 15:33people. Yes, I connect so fast.
- 15:35I am going to
- 15:37after I go.
- 15:39Where do you think that came from?
- 15:41>> Language barrier in Spain.
- 15:43That triggered Okay, that's what started
- 15:46it.
- 15:47Yes, yes, yes.
- 15:50That language barrier triggered
- 15:52something in me. I am going to take a
- 15:55minute.
- 15:58Observing the world around you.
- 16:00>> Yes, so I became like that. So, I am
- 16:02going to
- 16:06May memory recall here.
- 16:12I enjoy
- 16:14both. I am feeling for the first time. I
- 16:18am going to
- 16:19say comments that I am
- 16:21yes, I know, but
- 16:22it's not just about being famous or
- 16:25relevant. I have a business say. Yeah.
- 16:27>> So, I am required everywhere.
- 16:30It's not even about social media because
- 16:32I am so much post like work and I am
- 16:35going to do
- 16:36additional stuff. It's more of you can
- 16:39kill everywhere.
- 16:41>> Yeah. I am going to go now.
- 16:48So, I am going to say we go.
- 16:50I am going to go now. I am going to kill
- 16:52anywhere.
- 16:56I am just me. Yeah. And um
- 16:59people don't ask what do you do for a
- 17:01living? Do you have a a husband? What's
- 17:04your religion? What's your political
- 17:05view? What up?
- 17:06They just know me. That's a no no in
- 17:08Europe though, right?
- 17:09>> Yes. Like that's it's not something that
- 17:12people talk about. And it's so funny
- 17:15because when I that I when I traveled,
- 17:17that was the only time that I realized
- 17:19it.
- 17:23Yes.
- 17:25The first thing people ask you when you
- 17:27enter the cafe hola, que tal? Hi, how
- 17:30are you?
- 17:32So, you
- 17:34you feel seen.
- 17:36>> Yeah.
- 17:37What's your order?
- 17:39>> [laughter]
- 17:39>> Not everyone is like that here, but I am
- 17:42going to experience a different world
- 17:43because I am going to be a tourist and I
- 17:44am going to be excited here. I am going
- 17:47to
- 17:47go to Joyce.
- 17:49I am going to go away from my house.
- 17:54Buenos días. Buenos días.
- 17:57I am going to something. I am going to
- 17:59go to phone now. Yeah. I am going to go
- 18:02to town.
- 18:03I am going to go to the building. I am
- 18:05going to go to the building. So, I am
- 18:07going to go to the world
- 18:09because before I was just a tourist.
- 18:11Now, I really live somewhere. I am going
- 18:14to go to culture. I am going to go to
- 18:15the way.
- 18:19Yeah.
- 18:19>> I am going to go to the way. Yeah.
- 18:25I am going to build build up now. I am
- 18:27really proud of who I am today.
- 18:29I am so glad and that's the one thing
- 18:31that you you want, right? When you're
- 18:33growing up, it's not even it's not a
- 18:35competition with other people. It's
- 18:36really just trying to be a better person
- 18:38than you were before. It's really
- 18:40figuring out, okay, who am I now? What
- 18:43do I value? What is my goal? What are my
- 18:46what are my priorities? And I think if
- 18:48you have those things in check, it's
- 18:50easier to move around in the world. I
- 18:53remember when I studied in the UK a few
- 18:56years ago.
- 18:59Everybody sat down on the table. I
- 19:00remember this the first time I sat down
- 19:03with some of my classmates and nobody
- 19:05was using their phones.
- 19:07Nope. As in and like and some of my
- 19:09classmates didn't have social media,
- 19:11didn't have a Facebook, didn't have an
- 19:13Instagram. Nobody asked for that.
- 19:15Everybody was just talking about, you
- 19:16know, recent news life life music that
- 19:20they're listening to, a book that
- 19:21they're reading. And then that's when I
- 19:22realized
- 19:25you bring conversation to the table.
- 19:28You bring yourself to the table. You
- 19:30improve yourself so much so that when
- 19:32you go into a table, you're actually
- 19:34growing with people and getting to know
- 19:36people more. I want to ask you because
- 19:39when I met you and ever since I met you,
- 19:42I feel like you've embodied the phrase
- 19:45that you have in the title of your
- 19:47podcast, which is life in progress. What
- 19:50does that look like to you right now?
- 19:52What are some
- 19:53>> [snorts]
- 19:53>> I guess definitions of success and then
- 19:56you let go of them.
- 19:57What are some differences in your values
- 19:59right now? What are the things that
- 20:07>> [laughter]
- 20:12>> Every girl has a dream to go to school,
- 20:15to be heard, to grow up free from fear.
- 20:18But for many Filipino girls, these
- 20:20dreams are out of reach. They face the
- 20:22harsh realities of early marriage,
- 20:24dropping out of school, and being
- 20:26silenced by poverty and inequality. But
- 20:29it doesn't have to stay this way. With
- 20:31your support, a girl can find her voice
- 20:34and speak up. She can learn, she can
- 20:37lead and rise strong and fearless. She
- 20:41can say no to the things that hold her
- 20:43back and yes to the life that she truly
- 20:45deserves.
- 20:46We ask you to please join the movement
- 20:49to raise your voice for a girl and walk
- 20:51alongside her on her journey to
- 20:53empowerment. Sponsor a girl by October
- 20:5611, International Day of the Girl, and
- 20:58be the reason she says, "Yes, I can."
- 21:01Because girls can. Visit
- 21:03worldvision.org.ph
- 21:05to learn more. So, let's start with my
- 21:08podcast, Life in Progress. That was just
- 21:11an experiment. Someone asked me, "Do you
- 21:13want to have a podcast?" I was like,
- 21:14"Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and go
- 21:15out."
- 21:17For me, my life is
- 21:20like a tree.
- 21:23Means
- 21:24fall season,
- 21:28the leaves, winter,
- 21:31then that I think is spring, then
- 21:33summer, it's all shiny.
- 21:35And
- 21:37I have accepted that.
- 21:38I don't want to be a perfect human
- 21:40being. That's boring. I want to make
- 21:42mistakes. I want to
- 21:44have struggles. I want to have a
- 21:46problems because
- 21:48that's a life worth remembering.
- 21:51I don't want to have a life everything
- 21:52is provided now.
- 21:59I have this playlist
- 22:02TikTok call stories for my kids.
- 22:05That's when I realized that
- 22:08I want to have someone who will listen
- 22:11to all the stories.
- 22:12Imagine having a mom who traveled well.
- 22:18Imagine having a mom that you can brag
- 22:21to school. My mom has been there. That's
- 22:24a legacy that my kids will be proud of.
- 22:30Yeah.
- 22:33When I was in my 20s, that's when I
- 22:35realized that
- 22:39>> [laughter]
- 22:40>> You know I realized that then I started
- 22:42to create stories meaningful now. I
- 22:44didn't know you must have a style now.
- 22:46So, that's what changed about me. And
- 22:49one thing is
- 22:51the meaning of success used to be for me
- 22:53hustle, hustle, hustle, productive
- 22:56now no rest is
- 22:58my definition of success. If you have
- 23:00the time to rest, you are successful.
- 23:03Amen. That's true.
- 23:03>> And if you have the time every day to go
- 23:06work out like two to three hours, that's
- 23:08success for me because people can't even
- 23:12walk.
- 23:13It's okay.
- 23:19That's all right.
- 23:21>> [laughter]
- 23:22>> So, you want to learn
- 23:27things to say something
- 23:29I want to do three things today.
- 23:34And you say there three things now.
- 23:37But I want to be there completely, fully
- 23:41and even my late
- 23:43and then you okay you need to learn the
- 23:46latest that I expect to have Yeah.
- 23:54in between to rest, to have coffee
- 23:58because rest is now success. Yeah. For
- 24:01me material things like
- 24:07because
- 24:09I didn't have anything before. But you
- 24:11know that's every successful person I
- 24:14know who came from nothing and got
- 24:16something always say
- 24:20Because I hear people say things about
- 24:23me.
- 24:29>> [laughter]
- 24:36>> Because I want to wear these things
- 24:38because they could have
- 24:41I love to wear Zimmerman. The whole
- 24:43collection
- 24:44why there's a story. You need to learn.
- 24:47I used to travel to Australia.
- 24:57Then the day came, my day came, my time
- 25:00is here and now I'm going to enjoy it
- 25:02and I'm never going to feel guilty about
- 25:04that.
- 25:08Some people say something because I can
- 25:10because I want to. I'm not doing it for
- 25:12other people.
- 25:20Yeah. Because I've seen so many people
- 25:23and I've learned my lesson from them.
- 25:25These these are closest people to me.
- 25:35Yeah. So, they gave me their lessons
- 25:37Angeli
- 25:44You just enjoy being a mom.
- 25:48You need to learn to let go.
- 25:50Biblical thing you know enjoy the fruits
- 25:51of your labor.
- 25:52Because I
- 25:54opposite before didn't even know
- 25:56I came from nothing. I I was one of
- 25:59those people that that you need to learn
- 26:01the most expensive and then
- 26:03my stepdad he told me you know it's
- 26:05biblical to enjoy the fruits of your
- 26:07labor because you work hard for it so
- 26:10how to how do you handle your money in a
- 26:13God honoring way?
- 26:19You prioritize are all in check. Then if
- 26:22so, you can enjoy the fruit of your
- 26:24labor. That's not a bad thing. So, I
- 26:26think that's really important then
- 26:28you're right when you become a mom you
- 26:29have a new priorities.
- 26:44emotionally, physically, mentally and my
- 26:48L L I L L Y
- 26:50Can I realize that you wanted to be a
- 26:52mom? Can I ask that personal question?
- 26:56I went on okay.
- 26:58I reunited ex-boyfriend call my ex love
- 27:01of my life. So,
- 27:02love of my life.
- 27:06I fired him.
- 27:07>> [laughter]
- 27:13[laughter]
- 27:14>> So,
- 27:15I reunited this year.
- 27:21And I try and try and no problem.
- 27:26But he did the
- 27:32I went on a long trip, birthday trip. I
- 27:34did New York, Arizona, Las Vegas, Mexico
- 27:38yeah.
- 27:42So, last trip was last segment of the
- 27:45trip was Easter Island. Easter Island is
- 27:47my favorite place.
- 27:50Everything felt so quiet.
- 27:55Normally some of you guys can adjust.
- 27:58You guys can
- 27:59anything. You guys can be happy.
- 28:01Ever since baby your favorite baby you
- 28:04guys can adjust. You guys can
- 28:06something.
- 28:09So, So, I I'm still am like that.
- 28:13Everything was so quiet. The plane, the
- 28:16airports.
- 28:23So, you
- 28:25can quiet.
- 28:27So, you can quiet in apartment.
- 28:29You need to
- 28:31learn birds
- 28:33you need to learn the way.
- 28:36So, you need to realize I don't want
- 28:38this.
- 28:40When I'm a little bit older.
- 28:44I don't know what you going to do so you
- 28:45can learn
- 28:46sexy things.
- 28:47All these things superficial things.
- 28:50You need to learn
- 28:51something about perfect your career
- 28:53success. You need to learn it. For me
- 28:56you need to realize experience
- 28:58maybe I think the reason why I feel so
- 29:01quiet is I'm ready for my next stage.
- 29:07You need to learn your first time to
- 29:09feel. So, when my mom comes home up to
- 29:12this day
- 29:28>> [gasps]
- 29:28>> I can I can already see my daughter who
- 29:30goes to school mama.
- 29:39Yeah.
- 29:41If I don't have kids you need to learn
- 29:44every time
- 29:46I don't want that. I called my eggs. No.
- 29:51I'll prepare you. So that I can take a
- 29:53lot of time to prepare myself for my egg
- 29:55freezing
- 29:57exercise. You know,
- 29:59as I've said earlier, I just want to
- 30:01prepare you next stage of life because
- 30:05this stage I'm enjoying right now when I
- 30:07had access, I was not prepared for it
- 30:09because nobody gave me
- 30:12a guidebook. Yeah. I'm so grateful to my
- 30:15parents. They were my loving they were
- 30:17responsible parents.
- 30:19>> Yeah.
- 30:19They provided me some responsibilities
- 30:22that they provide to and I will be
- 30:24forever grateful for that. Never going
- 30:27to discredit your parents. Go.
- 30:29But I built my life myself. I don't know
- 30:31what you call it self-made whatever you
- 30:32want to call it but you need to be a
- 30:34good person because I am good.
- 30:36>> Yeah. Because some people they only
- 30:38credit the self-made guy. Mhm. But
- 30:42why do we have to remove our parents
- 30:44from the picture? This is why I love you
- 30:47because you're a level-headed person.
- 30:49There's no such thing as a self-made
- 30:50person. My mom is part of my journey up
- 30:53to this day. So that interview I
- 30:55mentioned
- 30:56how can I just remove my mom and tell
- 30:59the world I'm self-made?
- 31:02My mom gave me education,
- 31:04home, shelter, food when my father died,
- 31:07everything. My mom is part of the
- 31:09formula. Yes. Until my last breath cuz
- 31:13I'm a chef a formula. So that's why
- 31:18you were not prepared when you gave
- 31:19birth to me because you married so young
- 31:22but I'm going to make sure I will be
- 31:24prepared for the next stage of my life.
- 31:26That's why I also went to therapy. I've
- 31:28been going for 3 years.
- 31:30Emotionally prepared now and mentally
- 31:32because I don't want to pass triggers
- 31:36we think those are small things. Those
- 31:39are not small things. We will pass that
- 31:41day. Yeah. Some people ask me after egg
- 31:43freezing.
- 31:47I was like no.
- 31:49My father died. Mhm.
- 31:53Yeah. So I need a difference. I
- 31:56personally believe in belief.
- 32:00Your family
- 32:02father may go go in mommy may go go in.
- 32:06Yeah. But when I have a choice to be a
- 32:07single mom going to be in both but if I
- 32:10have the choice to have a dad, why would
- 32:13I choose to pass on what I already
- 32:15experienced that I never wanted to
- 32:16experience with my own dad. Go. It's so
- 32:19important the role of fathers. Yeah.
- 32:21>> We cannot just say oh feminism
- 32:23whatsoever. I can have my own child.
- 32:25Yes, you can. Absolutely. That's your
- 32:27personal choice but that's not
- 32:29applicable to me. Yeah. I want a father
- 32:32for my kids.
- 32:33Because you buy your own you buy your
- 32:35own go. Mhm. I'm not sure if this is
- 32:38proven on the go.
- 32:41Your father down with the provide say in
- 32:43identity. Mhm.
- 32:45Like see no guy in the world now you mom
- 32:47down in a nurture your identity because
- 32:50you know you part.
- 32:56But that's true data. So there's data
- 32:58that shows that children who have no
- 33:00father figure growing up are more likely
- 33:02to end up in prison, are less likely to
- 33:04finish college, are more likely to get
- 33:07into trouble because having a strong
- 33:08father figure
- 33:10is really important in their lives and
- 33:12and I think that's such a valuable
- 33:13insight. You know, there's there's
- 33:15certain people who don't have that
- 33:17choice but you're right there. If you
- 33:19have that choice, why will you rob your
- 33:21child
- 33:22>> Yes. of that opportunity and privilege
- 33:24to grow up with a father and and that's
- 33:26so important and I think that's why I'm
- 33:29going to say
- 33:31taking care of our marriage, loving each
- 33:33other, taking care of each other so that
- 33:36our children can benefit from a healthy
- 33:38marriage cuz at the end of the day
- 33:39that's really what you want, right?
- 33:43Yes.
- 33:45>> [laughter]
- 33:45>> Thanks to my therapist Anna.
- 33:49Emotional, mental, physical and
- 33:51spiritual growth.
- 33:52>> Yes. All in a span.
- 33:55>> [laughter]
- 34:01[laughter]
- 34:01>> I'm so I'm so blessed to hear all of
- 34:04that. I I feel like we could go on for 6
- 34:07more hours.
- 34:10>> [laughter]
- 34:11>> Fast
- 34:13facts. The first the first principle or
- 34:16idea that comes to your mind when I say
- 34:18these words.
- 34:19>> Okay.
- 34:23Travel. Education.
- 34:26Purpose.
- 34:30Evolves. Mhm. Family.
- 34:33Everything. Love.
- 34:37Uh
- 34:39changes. Aw. Money.
- 34:43It shows who just work. No, it doesn't
- 34:46have to be just a word. Well, then I'm
- 34:47going to change all my answers.
- 34:49>> [laughter]
- 34:50>> I think money money shows who you really
- 34:53are. Mhm. Once you have it. Once you get
- 34:56to touch it. Chinkee Tan said the same
- 34:59thing here on the podcast. He says money
- 35:01doesn't change people. It reveals them.
- 35:03>> It shows who you are. That's why that's
- 35:05what I've said earlier.
- 35:09Mhm.
- 35:15Choice.
- 35:16That's the most
- 35:19thing.
- 35:20You have to be patient to say you can
- 35:23see it really shows all about the way
- 35:25you are a person cuz you Mhm.
- 35:30Yeah.
- 35:33You treat me how I was
- 35:36when I was just starting. You don't
- 35:38treat me who I am today. Yeah.
- 35:43I need a gift for you.
- 35:46>> [laughter]
- 35:51>> So I don't want people
- 35:53to treat me differently just because
- 35:55well, I consider myself I made it based
- 35:57on my definition.
- 35:59I actually get hurt when people
- 36:01treat me differently. Mhm.
- 36:06This is me. If I don't look at myself
- 36:08like that,
- 36:10why other people are looking at me like
- 36:12that? Like you're going to question the
- 36:14but
- 36:17level of understanding.
- 36:19>> I think it's also defense mechanism for
- 36:20a lot of people who have experienced how
- 36:23people change or reveal themselves when
- 36:26they have money. Then all of a sudden
- 36:28they act more important, they demand
- 36:30more things. It's a different kind of
- 36:32person already but I think that's what
- 36:35makes you special in my opinion. You
- 36:37know, you you know who you are. You're
- 36:39grounded in your values so money doesn't
- 36:41really change anything. It just reveals
- 36:43that.
- 36:43>> just want to add like when people call
- 36:45me oh influencer, I'm going to be
- 36:48I'm an entrepreneur. Yeah. Because
- 36:49that's how I started and I want to keep
- 36:51it that way. I never want to change like
- 36:54I don't want to start. You're just an
- 36:56influential entrepreneur.
- 36:57>> I'm just an entrepreneur. I don't want
- 36:59to be called anything else. I mean with
- 37:01all due respect to all the influencers.
- 37:03I am Yeah. I just like who I am and
- 37:08I just want to evolve from there. The
- 37:10world always tells you be like this, be
- 37:12like that. I've accepted myself now.
- 37:15Everything. That's why
- 37:17when you accept yourself completely,
- 37:20nobody can use it against you.
- 37:22Yeah. Okay. Finally. I am final.
- 37:25Progress.
- 37:29Progress, you are allowed to change and
- 37:32please change. That would be my goal.
- 37:40>> [laughter]
- 37:47>> See right but look at my diamond girl.
- 37:51>> [laughter]
- 37:52>> And I enjoy it. I've seen myself from
- 37:55this to this to this when you see all of
- 37:58your versions. You love more Joyce.
- 38:01I'm so so proud.
- 38:03>> So Angeli now with everything stripped,
- 38:07your traveling, your life here in
- 38:09Manila, maybe even your businesses and
- 38:11your work, who are you?
- 38:13What is the season of Angeli now? Right
- 38:17now,
- 38:19I think everything I've done in my life
- 38:22I don't want to enjoy.
- 38:25I mean I've always said this. I don't
- 38:27want to be perfect and I'll never be and
- 38:28I don't want to be.
- 38:30But I want to continue to learn.
- 38:33The world is
- 38:34so big.
- 38:36There's there's one thing I've listened
- 38:38to 2 days ago. Some guy it's always the
- 38:42uneducated people
- 38:44who think they know it all. Mhm. But if
- 38:47you are an educated person,
- 38:50you'll always be a curious person. Mhm.
- 38:54And it has nothing to do with school.
- 38:56Yeah. When we say educated and educated,
- 38:58it's just
- 38:59you look at the world
- 39:01like a school. Mhm. Open university. I
- 39:04learn from you. I learn from this
- 39:06person. But every person you learn
- 39:08something. Yeah. That's who I am right
- 39:10now. Everything
- 39:13for last my whole life basically.
- 39:19My clients don't look for me anymore.
- 39:22Yeah.
- 39:22For me, I want to enjoy that. I want to
- 39:26enjoy
- 39:28every watch I can buy, every Max Mara
- 39:31suit I can buy. I want to enjoy. We I
- 39:33don't feel guilty. Yeah. I'm so sorry if
- 39:36you did not get what you wanted in life.
- 39:41Get what you wanted in life. Probably
- 39:44didn't get
- 39:52I had the least among us all.
- 40:01So, some of my my brother and sisters
- 40:03didn't want to get married. But,
- 40:11You are not my responsibility. We gave
- 40:13you way more than
- 40:15way more than enough. And that's love.
- 40:17And that's love. You have to learn life
- 40:19on your own.
- 40:20I'm going to give you anything. I'm not
- 40:21going to give you anything. I'm not
- 40:22going to give you anything.
- 40:28I'm in a family and I so loved the
- 40:30whole. We love each other.
- 40:37But, as the eldest child, I have to
- 40:39remind my siblings. I'm here because the
- 40:42noble down work.
- 40:45So, okay now.
- 40:46So, I want to enjoy that. And you know
- 40:48what, Angeli? The reason why I adore you
- 40:51is because you are the perfect balance
- 40:54of crazy and level-headed.
- 40:56>> Yes.
- 40:57>> That is that and that's really what you
- 40:58want in life. Crazy enough to dream big
- 41:01dreams, crazy enough to move to a
- 41:03different country to try new things, to
- 41:05meet new people, but level-headed enough
- 41:07to know what really matters in life. And
- 41:09I think that's really inspiring.
- 41:16People ask me to talk about travel. So,
- 41:18yes, traveling is good, but there's also
- 41:21a thing called life. You cannot just
- 41:22keep on rewarding yourself.
- 41:28Travel is a reward. We live in reality.
- 41:31Yeah.
- 41:33But, it's not everyone's reality. You
- 41:35cannot just tell people travel, inspire,
- 41:37see the world.
- 41:39>> Yeah. We we you have to create systems,
- 41:41financial stability.
- 41:43So,
- 41:45life
- 41:46is more enjoyable when we are
- 41:48responsible. Yeah.
- 41:52I'm having words of wisdom. [laughter]
- 41:58Thank you, Angeli, for being on the
- 41:59podcast. For making time, for always
- 42:02being humble, and always being confident
- 42:05at the same time.
- 42:06>> Last last learning.
- 42:07>> Okay. Last learning.
- 42:08>> My client wants to hold me.
- 42:10The same confidence you used to build
- 42:13your business will be misinterpreted by
- 42:16people
- 42:17as arrogance. And that's okay. You never
- 42:20let that
- 42:22come close to you.
- 42:24That insight.
- 42:30It's a cultural thing.
- 42:31>> Because it's a sin to love your life,
- 42:35to be confident about your journey, and
- 42:37to believe in your timeline.
- 42:40Or to just be straight-forward. Yes,
- 42:42it's a sin.
- 42:47To whom it may concern. I don't like and
- 42:50I don't have time. I'm sorry. I'd rather
- 42:53spend the time with my mother.
- 42:54>> [laughter]
- 43:00>> Angeli, thank you for being on the
- 43:02podcast.
- 43:04Always a pleasure to sit down and catch
- 43:06up with you. You're inspiring, you're
- 43:08beautiful, and I can't wait. And crazy,
- 43:10but crazy good at what you do and who
- 43:13you are. And I pray for the best for
- 43:15you. Can't wait to have you on the
- 43:16podcast again. Let's not wait for 5
- 43:19years.
- 43:19>> No, no, no. Amen and amen.
- 43:23>> [laughter]
- 43:25>> See you guys in the next episode of
- 43:26Adulting with Joy Spring.
