- 0:02NARRATOR: Previously, on "Dance Moms"--
- 0:04CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: We're starting a new ballgame.
- 0:06This is our opportunity to build and get strong.
- 0:08We just want to take a look at the space.
- 0:10Oh, my goodness, this is the next stop.
- 0:12WOMAN: On lunge again.
- 0:14Two arms up in high fifth.
- 0:16Shoulders down.
- 0:17CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Well, Anthony,
- 0:19show myself what you've got to offer.
- 0:20Oh, [beep].
- 0:22Put your mouth on vacation.
- 0:23You told my daughter--
- 0:25[interposing voices]
- 0:28[suspenseful music]
- 0:30NARRATOR: Coming up on "Dance Moms"--
- 0:32ABBY LEE MILLER: Maddie's doing a solo at "Abby's Ultimate
- 0:34Dance Competition."
- 0:35You want to go to dinner tonight,
- 0:36you better get it together.
- 0:37DONNA DANIELS: Jalen's going to go against Mari.
- 0:39RICK TESTERMAN: Jalen will beat Mari hands down.
- 0:41ANTHONY BURRELL: You can't find your legs.
- 0:43Plie.
- 0:44ANNOUNCER: From "Dance Moms," Maddie of The Abby Lee Dance
- 0:48Company.
- 0:49[cheers and applause]
- 0:50ANTHONY BURRELL: I really don't understand
- 0:52why you're so dysfunctional.
- 0:53CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Because you have called me a joke.
- 0:55[suspenseful music]
- 0:57My gosh, are you crying?
- 0:58She's crying.
- 0:59I'm not going to put up with that.
- 1:01Ideally, I want a team of five.
- 1:03You can do the math.
- 1:05[THEME - NIKKO LOWE, "LIVING ON THE DANCE FLOOR"]
- 1:07THEME SONG: Get up, get on the floor.
- 1:11My world is with my girls.
- 1:14Living on the dance floor!
- 1:17[suspenseful music]
- 1:19ABBY LEE MILLER: I'm in sunny California,
- 1:21shooting the second season of "Abby's Ultimate Dance
- 1:25Competition."
- 1:26And we want somebody to perform on the show.
- 1:28Of course, Maddie jumped at the opportunity to come out to LA
- 1:32and perform.
- 1:345, 6-- they'll give you a tick, tick, tick, and then you go.
- 1:39And you're going to go and look up at that like-- sh.
- 1:41Right. Ready?
- 1:42(SINGING) Oh.
- 1:43ABBY LEE MILLER: Maddie lives for dance.
- 1:46She loves it.
- 1:47She's all about it.
- 1:49Hey, did the other kids want to come?
- 1:51I guess not.
- 1:53I think Maddie was definitely the smart one--
- 1:55getting to meet new people, getting
- 1:57to see these incredible dancers from around the country,
- 1:59and networking.
- 2:01In every job situation, it's not always what you know,
- 2:05but who you know.
- 2:07Take your time.
- 2:08It's OK, you can be after the music.
- 2:10You can be after the music.
- 2:13Nice.
- 2:14While I'm busy in Hollywood with my own TV show,
- 2:18Cathy is back in Ohio, doing Lord knows what.
- 2:22She tried to have an all-boys team.
- 2:24Did it work?
- 2:25Mm.
- 2:28Cathy, there's only one me, and you're never going to catch me.
- 2:32[suspenseful music]
- 2:33You've got to have the sucker down, OK?
- 2:36So let's try not to do too much playing.
- 2:38Let's do-- let's dance and make everybody look bad.
- 2:43[music playing]
- 2:48CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: How is everybody?
- 2:49ALL: Good.
- 2:50I really want Candy Apples to be a household name.
- 2:54And I want Candy Apples to be professional dancers.
- 2:58I didn't cut anybody last week, but I only
- 3:01want the best dancers for the Candy Apple Core.
- 3:05Not everybody's safe this week.
- 3:08Anthony, it looks like he's got a book of notes.
- 3:11I have made no bones in letting him know what our roles are--
- 3:17owner of the dance studio, employer.
- 3:19Choreographer, employee.
- 3:22So here we are again, pyramid time.
- 3:25I am losing that pyramid.
- 3:27And I am introducing the Apple Tree.
- 3:32Oh, look at that.
- 3:35We're going to start at the top of the tree.
- 3:37We have Nick.
- 3:41Obviously, no questions there from the peanut gallery.
- 3:46Nick, you were the man of the competition.
- 3:49[music playing]
- 3:52[cheers and applause]
- 3:56You were stupendous.
- 3:58DONNA DANIELS: Cathy has a little connection with Nick.
- 4:01Nick's put a lot of time into this,
- 4:03working hard with Anthony and Cathy.
- 4:05And he deserves to get some special parts, get some solos.
- 4:09Nick should be Cathy's leading man.
- 4:13The next stunning Apple, it is Hadley.
- 4:16[clapping]
- 4:18YVETTE WALTS: I was hoping Hadley would be on the top.
- 4:20She's a very advanced dancer at the age of 12.
- 4:24When Cathy called to invite Hadley to her team,
- 4:27I was thrilled.
- 4:29Versus Abby Lee Miller, she doesn't care about anything
- 4:31but winning, and if it's even taking a kid down,
- 4:34it doesn't matter to her.
- 4:36[music playing]
- 4:37(SINGING) Open up your light tonight.
- 4:39YVETTE WALTS: Abby tried to break Hadley.
- 4:41KEVIN MANNO: Abby, I'm reading your facial expression,
- 4:43and you don't seem that happy.
- 4:45ABBY LEE MILLER: Should I say roadkill?
- 4:47AUDIENCE: Oh.
- 4:48CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: OK, let's move on.
- 4:51Let's see who's in this Apple position.
- 4:55We have Nicaya on the tree.
- 4:57Even though she's not here, Nicaya
- 4:59is next on the Apple Tree.
- 5:00She dropped everything last week to come and represent
- 5:03Candy Apples.
- 5:04There's always going to be a spot for her.
- 5:06Next, we have Zack.
- 5:09GINA TORRES: I feel like Zack really is an excellent leading
- 5:12man.
- 5:13He's always been a leader.
- 5:15That's just who he is.
- 5:16I think Cathy is a great mentor.
- 5:19I think she's a great teacher.
- 5:21And I think she's a great coach.
- 5:24I'm dancing with Candy Apples because I feel like it's
- 5:27a really positive environment.
- 5:29I do want to beat Abby for Cathy.
- 5:31CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Next we have Jalen.
- 5:34RICK TESTERMAN: My son Jalen is 11 years old,
- 5:37a b-boy from Seattle.
- 5:38He's a breakdancer.
- 5:39He's self-taught for the most part.
- 5:42His background is not really strong in choreography,
- 5:45but what he does, he is amazing at.
- 5:48CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Finally, we've got Mari.
- 5:51GINA DUDASH: Mari has one title in Indiana, Ohio.
- 5:55I want Mari to have the best possible opportunities
- 5:58in the industry.
- 5:59And I feel that Cathy is a leader in the industry.
- 6:01And if anybody is going to get my little girl known,
- 6:04it's Cathy.
- 6:05CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: That leaves Campbell.
- 6:08You didn't do the dance.
- 6:09ALLI REYNOLDS: Cathy is looking for her ultimate dream team.
- 6:12I think that she's going to get a chance
- 6:13to prove that she's something other than what they think she
- 6:16is.
- 6:18CAMPBELL REYNOLDS: I'm not here just
- 6:19to be friends with everybody.
- 6:21I'm here because I want to dance.
- 6:22My mom made me for one reason, one reason, only to dance.
- 6:25CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: This week, we
- 6:26are going to Masters of Dance in Columbus, Ohio.
- 6:30We will be doing a group dance.
- 6:32It's going to be fun.
- 6:33ANTHONY BURRELL: The dance will be entitled "So Chic."
- 6:35I don't know what "chic" means.
- 6:38I really don't.
- 6:40ANTHONY BURRELL: It's about over-the-top characters,
- 6:42the Club Kids.
- 6:43CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Then we're going to be doing a duet.
- 6:46And my leading man Nick and my leading lady Hadley.
- 6:51[cheers and applause]
- 6:52HADLEY WALTS: Nick and I are kind of battling each other.
- 6:55He's amazing, and he really pushes me to do better.
- 6:57Nick and Hadley, the title of your duet
- 7:00will be "Tribal Affair."
- 7:02It's going to be sort of a contemporary style this week.
- 7:04CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: All right, so that brings us to our solos.
- 7:08Jalen, you've got a solo this week.
- 7:11[cheers and applause]
- 7:14ANTHONY BURRELL: And Jalen, the title of your solo
- 7:17will be "One Last Goodbye."
- 7:19With that said, I'm going to give you a contemporary routine
- 7:22this week.
- 7:22Yes?
- 7:23WOMAN: Wow.
- 7:24CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Jalen's forte, by far,
- 7:27is spinning on his head.
- 7:28But I need to see that Jalen is more than just a b-boy.
- 7:32It's time that he step up and be an all-around dancer.
- 7:37And we have one other solo to pass out.
- 7:41Mari, you're going to get an opportunity.
- 7:43[cheers and applause]
- 7:46I'm still on the fence about Mari.
- 7:48She was sick last week.
- 7:49There is nothing worse than a dancer full of excuses.
- 7:53ANTHONY BURRELL: Mari, your solo will be entitled "Still
- 7:56I Rise."
- 7:57CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: I still have to trim the fat.
- 7:59I still would like to tighten up my team a little bit.
- 8:02Mari and Jalen aren't so safe.
- 8:05Thanks, moms!
- 8:06Thanks, dad!
- 8:07Let's get warmed up, guys.
- 8:11YVETTE WALTS: OK, that was intense.
- 8:12RICK TESTERMAN: It was, definitely was.
- 8:14YVETTE WALTS: But I think the whole process is a test.
- 8:16They're testing all the kids.
- 8:18I don't need a test.
- 8:20I kind of feel bad that Cathy is going to cut a person.
- 8:23I'm not comfortable at all.
- 8:24CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: So guys, let's talk about the dance
- 8:26this week, OK?
- 8:27You guys are Club Kids.
- 8:29It's all about being who you are,
- 8:31and you expressing yourself.
- 8:33I need to see your interpretation of this song,
- 8:36OK?
- 8:375, 6, and a 7, and a-- ah.
- 8:39RICK TESTERMAN: Come on, J, show them that swag.
- 8:41There it is.
- 8:41There you go.
- 8:42Hoo!
- 8:43CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: This week's dance
- 8:45is going to be so much fun.
- 8:46It's a hip hop number, and it's called "So Chic."
- 8:49It's about Club Kids who like to go out in ostentatious clothes,
- 8:54and they just like to go clubbing.
- 8:56Not only do they have to nail their choreography,
- 8:59but they're also characters.
- 9:02And that has to come across to the judges.
- 9:03[MUSIC - MALIK SO CHIC, "I DON'T DANCE"]
- 9:05(SINGING) Shut down all red carpet lane.
- 9:07ANTHONY BURRELL: [inaudible]!
- 9:08Hit it hard!
- 9:09Hit it!
- 9:10GINA DUDASH: I'm not making an excuse,
- 9:11but there is something to be said for when a dancer doesn't
- 9:14typically dance in bare feet.
- 9:16Mari was kind of given a bad rap.
- 9:18And I think she got a lot of [beep] for nothing.
- 9:20Cathy is making it clear that she's going to take
- 9:23this team of six down to five.
- 9:25I'm a little nervous.
- 9:26My vote is going to be Mari.
- 9:28RICK TESTERMAN: Honestly, I'm really worried about Jalen
- 9:29this week.
- 9:31GINA DUDASH: I'm worried about Mari as well.
- 9:32Jalen's going to go against Mari.
- 9:33Right.
- 9:34RICK TESTERMAN: Jalen will beat Mari hands down,
- 9:35without a doubt. - Really?
- 9:37Knock it off.
- 9:38RICK TESTERMAN: Don't hate.
- 9:39Don't hate.
- 9:40Don't hate.
- 9:41YVETTE WALTS: Rick is stressing out.
- 9:42Rick definitely feels that this is something brand-new
- 9:46for Jalen.
- 9:47CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Hey, you ready for this?
- 9:49We want to keep you on this team, Jalen,
- 9:51but we need to see you grow every single week.
- 9:55The fact that Jalen just knows how to do hip hop
- 9:58and has no formal technique, I can't
- 10:01let that ruin the group dances.
- 10:03ANTHONY BURRELL: I want you to break, see the ceiling.
- 10:066, 7, 8, and a 1, stop.
- 10:09You've got to just be there.
- 10:11The challenge this week is to get
- 10:13Jalen to do a triple pirouette.
- 10:14If you can do three spins on your head,
- 10:16you can do it on one foot.
- 10:18So it's important to get Jalen to be able to understand
- 10:21his ability.
- 10:22And if Jalen doesn't hit that triple pirouette,
- 10:23I'm afraid we're going to have to cut him.
- 10:25CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Jalen, just remember,
- 10:26you're not getting to use any of your tricks this week.
- 10:29You're-- no, keep your ankles together.
- 10:31ANTHONY BURRELL: Keep your ankles together.
- 10:32Yes.
- 10:33[suspenseful music]
- 10:34On top of the feet, on top of that releve.
- 10:36Yes.
- 10:37On top of that forced arch.
- 10:38And 1, 2--
- 10:41DONNA DANIELS: And we're going to be here late tonight
- 10:42because he's still working on Jalen,
- 10:44and we haven't even got to Mari yet.
- 10:46I wish he would start Mari's a little bit just even the intro.
- 10:49Jalen needs the extra coaching because he's not
- 10:51a contemporary dancer.
- 10:52Mari is.
- 10:53RICK TESTERMAN: I need to ask him if I can record
- 10:55that before he's done with him.
- 10:57GINA DUDASH: Oh, no, Rick.
- 10:58What about Mari? WOMAN: Poor Mari.
- 10:59RICK TESTERMAN: One of the hardest things
- 11:00about being the only man in the "kiss and cry" room is
- 11:03that women have to understand, we express ourselves
- 11:07differently.
- 11:08Out!
- 11:10Then go in!
- 11:11Out!
- 11:12In!
- 11:13GINA DUDASH: I do feel, in some ways,
- 11:15Mari is being almost set up to fail because she's not getting
- 11:19the rehearsal time with Anthony.
- 11:21I know they're in there, but I think that it's OK for us
- 11:23to go in and get you stretched.
- 11:24So why don't we do that?
- 11:26Stretch.
- 11:27Oh, jeez.
- 11:28That way?
- 11:29DONNA DANIELS: She'd get enough time.
- 11:31If a parent busted in on my rehearsal,
- 11:33they'd be looking for a new dance studio.
- 11:35GINA DUDASH: Anthony, can't we start Mari?
- 11:38[suspenseful music]
- 11:46[music playing]
- 11:50CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: OK, so I've got time today to do something
- 11:53that I've been wanting to do for a while.
- 11:55And you're going to help me.
- 11:56I need to catalog all of these bunnies.
- 11:59We were going to categorize ceramic bunnies, bunnies that
- 12:01are gifts, antique bunnies, how many I have,
- 12:05and if we need more.
- 12:06We'll have fun.
- 12:07This is something we could do together.
- 12:09They say we're a happy family.
- 12:12Sometimes, stepping away is what I need to do.
- 12:15So I'm going to do my two favorite things.
- 12:17I'm going to spend some time with my adorable Vivi,
- 12:20and I'm going to catalog my bunnies.
- 12:22This by far would be Jill because this is a manly bunny.
- 12:27And I'll bet you, on her days off, that she smokes a pipe.
- 12:32Yeah, yeah.
- 12:33Well, let's move on.
- 12:34I would say that, that bunny right there
- 12:37would be Abby on the run with armloads full of food.
- 12:41[music playing]
- 12:43ANTHONY BURRELL: So I'm going to put some music on, OK?
- 12:45I was hired by Cathy to be her resident choreographer.
- 12:48I have worked with Beyonce.
- 12:50I have worked with Rihanna, Destiny's Child, Mary J Blige,
- 12:53Katy Perry.
- 12:54I have the experience.
- 12:55I have the knowledge.
- 12:56And I know what it takes to make a star.
- 12:58This dance is called "Still I Rise."
- 13:01And I expect you to rise to the occasion, Mari.
- 13:03And I want to capitalize on your strengths.
- 13:06Because you could be a great dancer here,
- 13:08but if you don't step up, I'm afraid
- 13:10you're going to be shipped on out of here, Mari.
- 13:11[suspenseful music]
- 13:13GINA DUDASH: I think Mari's nervous about having
- 13:14the solo this week not because Mary isn't accustomed to doing
- 13:18solos, but Mari's a little nervous
- 13:20in working with Anthony.
- 13:21Oh, no.
- 13:22Listen, listen.
- 13:23[MUSIC - TRADING VOICES, "RED MOON RISING"]
- 13:24(SINGING) --goes down.
- 13:25Go.
- 13:26Huh!
- 13:27Where's the energy in the finger, Mari?
- 13:29Mari's underperforming because she's not believing in herself.
- 13:32It's not going to be easy, but she needs to be pushed.
- 13:35You're slipping and sliding all over the place
- 13:36like it's an ice skating rink.
- 13:39One more time, from the beginning.
- 13:41See all that [inaudible] in between?
- 13:42You see what I'm saying?
- 13:43This is exactly what I'm talking about with you.
- 13:45[suspenseful music]
- 13:48Is she crying?
- 13:49What's going on?
- 13:51Huh?
- 13:54What happened?
- 13:55What's going on?
- 13:56GINA DUDASH: When Mari has an asthma attack,
- 13:58she clearly can't breathe.
- 14:01My little sweet angel.
- 14:02At this point, because of the issues that Mary's
- 14:04had since coming here, I needed Cathy in there
- 14:07because Cathy is a little more of a nurturing soul.
- 14:10[suspenseful music]
- 14:12[music - pailboy, "tofurkey"]
- 14:14ANTHONY BURRELL: 5, 6, 7, 8.
- 14:16Boom, fa.
- 14:20This week, Cathy picked Nick and Hadley a duet, "Tribal Affair."
- 14:241, 2, 3, 4.
- 14:25One [inaudible].
- 14:26Step, pop, step, step.
- 14:27Up, down.
- 14:28The costume's sweet.
- 14:29Great, great costumes.
- 14:30I'm so excited.
- 14:32CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: After Mari's meltdown,
- 14:34it's clear to me that I've given Anthony too much space.
- 14:37ANTHONY BURRELL: Look, look.
- 14:39Step, kick, up--
- 14:40CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: I'm not going to feel
- 14:41like a guest in my own studio.
- 14:42I need to have my input and to have some hands-on
- 14:46with these dancers.
- 14:47I thought maybe we could take a moment to help them understand
- 14:50breathing.
- 14:51Hadley's got to be completely wild
- 14:53and wear head gear that's very, very flamboyant.
- 14:57And it's going to affect Nick as well.
- 15:00Hadley, when you kick him, take that as a moment
- 15:03to breathe because he's going into the next pass.
- 15:06You just take a moment to breathe.
- 15:08DONNA DANIELS: I think that Cathy might cut somebody today
- 15:11if she doesn't see them perform in the number.
- 15:14RICK TESTERMAN: By the end of this week,
- 15:15they're just going to be gone.
- 15:16You're not going to be here.
- 15:17So guys, Club Kids.
- 15:19I have a friend, Malik So Chic.
- 15:21This is the guy whose song we're performing to.
- 15:24[music playing]
- 15:26CHILD: Anthony, is that a guy?
- 15:27ANTHONY BURRELL: Yes.
- 15:29Malik So Chic, a very good friend of mine,
- 15:31the biggest fashionista socialite in the New York party
- 15:34scene.
- 15:35He's the star whenever he walks into any room.
- 15:38All the boys can make 30 push-ups quickly.
- 15:40CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Anthony wants the kids to do push-ups.
- 15:43ANTHONY BURRELL: Lower, Zack.
- 15:44If it's for conditioning, I'm OK with it.
- 15:49Why don't you do something like--
- 15:50ANTHONY BURRELL: Zack, your push-ups.
- 15:52CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: You just interrupted what we were doing.
- 15:54You stay over there with the ladies,
- 15:56and I'll stay over here with the men.
- 15:57I'm not interrupting.
- 15:59And you need to mind your p's and q's, that
- 16:01means polite and quiet.
- 16:02ANTHONY BURRELL: This is my p's and q's.
- 16:03This is my p and q.
- 16:04CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: No, I'm sorry.
- 16:05It's not.
- 16:06You think p's and q's are something you eat.
- 16:08Just go on and be quiet.
- 16:09CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: What? - It's corny.
- 16:10Be quiet. CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: See, corny.
- 16:11Corny, all you're thinking about is food.
- 16:12Is your name Abby Lee?
- 16:15ANTHONY BURRELL: You had me here because of my resume.
- 16:18You know that I have the information to be here,
- 16:20so let me do what I do.
- 16:22My passion is to get you guys looking the way that I want you
- 16:24to do.
- 16:25I'm going to go about it the way that I want to.
- 16:27Now give me 20 push-ups.
- 16:29We're doing the push-ups for no reason.
- 16:30ANTHONY BURRELL: So what?
- 16:32One, because I don't want to do push-ups for no reason.
- 16:35ANTHONY BURRELL: It's just about strength.
- 16:37And if I thought you have one weak member, you're all weak.
- 16:39[suspenseful music]
- 16:41WOMAN: Baby boy.
- 16:43RICK TESTERMAN: Then why aren't the girls doing push-ups?
- 16:45ANTHONY BURRELL: I'm sorry.
- 16:46Why aren't the girls doing push-ups?
- 16:47ANTHONY BURRELL: Because girls don't do push-ups.
- 16:49RICK TESTERMAN: Why not?
- 16:50ANTHONY BURRELL: I don't want them to, that's why.
- 16:52Rick has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
- 16:56The girls are not doing push-ups because they
- 16:57need soft and dainty arms.
- 16:59I'm not going to have no girls looking like He-Man.
- 17:00[suspenseful music]
- 17:03[door banging]
- 17:05RICK TESTERMAN: I didn't have a father growing up.
- 17:07[dramatic music]
- 17:10I didn't have someone to support me.
- 17:19Were you looking out for yourself?
- 17:24I didn't bring you here for this.
- 17:26I brought you here to learn, to broaden
- 17:30your horizons and your dance.
- 17:32I didn't have someone to protect me.
- 17:36I didn't have that figure there to tell me,
- 17:41no matter what happens, I'm going to protect you.
- 17:48I know you want to be here for that team,
- 17:50and I know you want to do what you can for the team,
- 17:53but I cannot let someone treat you in that manner.
- 18:03DONNA DANIELS: Where is J?
- 18:06GINA TORRES: And Rick?
- 18:07DONNA DANIELS: He was pretty heated yesterday.
- 18:09Rick is so unpredictable.
- 18:11I have no idea where he is.
- 18:12He's supposed to be here, but he needed a cooling-off period.
- 18:15Well, wouldn't it be nice if we all
- 18:17had that time to just cool off if we got upset
- 18:19about something.
- 18:19That's unacceptable.
- 18:21He would not be allowed back in.
- 18:24[suspenseful music]
- 18:26RICK TESTERMAN: Jalen really wants to be here.
- 18:28Although he wants to be here, he has to understand,
- 18:31I have to protect him as a parent first.
- 18:33I think that Rick does come off disrespectful sometimes.
- 18:37I would love if he would take it back a notch.
- 18:40Hey, guys, good morning!
- 18:41[interposing voices]
- 18:44I know that you are upset.
- 18:46And all I'm going to say is that I will be trying
- 18:49to make the best situation.
- 18:51I need to talk to Anthony, and it's not going to be easy.
- 18:54Anthony has definitely helped to establish this whole new Candy
- 18:59Apple, but what does it matter if he's chasing kids away?
- 19:03Every time we work together, there's
- 19:06a situation where you hurt my feelings.
- 19:08I feel that there should be a line that neither one of us
- 19:10cross.
- 19:12I don't think that you're here to give these kids discipline.
- 19:14Dance is a discipline.
- 19:15But those kids don't need discipline.
- 19:16But you have to understand-- yes, they do.
- 19:18Cathy's biggest weakness is babying them.
- 19:20We fight a lot because she's always in my face.
- 19:23And I think you have to respect me and my space
- 19:26when I'm in there.
- 19:27That's the only thing that I require.
- 19:28I don't have to walk out of here
- 19:30and feel like I'm less than because you have called me
- 19:34a joke.
- 19:37ANTHONY BURRELL: Cathy--
- 19:38You think about it.
- 19:39ANTHONY BURRELL: Cathy!
- 19:40Come here, Cathy.
- 19:41Here we go again.
- 19:42ALLI REYNOLDS: When Anthony starts screaming and yelling
- 19:44at Cathy, and swearing, I am not-- that is not OK with me.
- 19:48One, I'm here for Cathy.
- 19:49It's Cathy's studio.
- 19:50And at the end of the day, she's the one signing his checks.
- 19:53ANTHONY BURRELL: I don't think that you're a joke.
- 19:54Well, then don't say it.
- 19:56When you say things that hurt my feelings--
- 19:57CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Well, you hurt my feelings first.
- 19:58And I'm going to get upset with you like an alley cat.
- 20:00And that's exactly what it is.
- 20:02It's a retaliation thing.
- 20:03And you started them.
- 20:04You started them.
- 20:05ANTHONY BURRELL: OK.
- 20:06OK, but then I have to finish it.
- 20:08But you won't finish it because I am that vindictive.
- 20:10OK, then let me have the last word right now.
- 20:13You've got it, Cathy.
- 20:14No!
- 20:15[suspenseful music]
- 20:19That wasn't a word.
- 20:21[sniffing]
- 20:25I like Anthony, and I like what he brings to Candy Apples.
- 20:29But what I don't like is I feel like it's
- 20:33right around the corner, that another argument could happen.
- 20:37[music playing]
- 20:38[cars moving sounds]
- 20:41ABBY LEE MILLER: Right here needs to be lit.
- 20:44Then Maddie leaves there.
- 20:46She [inaudible].
- 20:47She grand jetés this way.
- 20:48Maddie has her work cut out for her.
- 20:51The other contestants on "Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition,"
- 20:54they've been here for weeks.
- 20:56Maddie is walking in cold.
- 20:58She has no idea where the cameras are going to be,
- 21:00what angles they're going to hit.
- 21:02She doesn't know how slippery the floor is.
- 21:05This technical rehearsal is going to be rough.
- 21:09Maddie needs to pay close attention,
- 21:11so that she always hits her marks.
- 21:13Is that a good angle?
- 21:14You can see that picture?
- 21:15OK?
- 21:16And down.
- 21:17So when this show airs, we want her performance to be flawless.
- 21:22Come on, Maddie.
- 21:22No pressure.
- 21:23[suspenseful music]
- 21:25Got to reach to us.
- 21:26Reach like, uh, help me!
- 21:29Yes.
- 21:30Cathy's kids, they're not really her kids.
- 21:32She didn't train them.
- 21:33So it's all about Maddie.
- 21:35I'm really not too concerned with Cathy.
- 21:37And that's the last time I'm saying her name.
- 21:39[suspenseful music]
- 21:43ANTHONY BURRELL: Ready to dance?
- 21:45So let's go from the top.
- 21:46Full out, OK?
- 21:47This is a crucial rehearsal for Mari.
- 21:49This rehearsal today will reflect that Mari will
- 21:51be a part of the team or not.
- 21:52[MUSIC - TRADING VOICES, "RED MOON RISING"]
- 21:54(SINGING) It's in the air.
- 21:55ANTHONY BURRELL: And drop.
- 21:56[MUSIC - TRADING VOICES, "RED MOON RISING"]
- 21:58(SINGING) It's down below.
- 21:59Everywhere we go.
- 22:01ANTHONY BURRELL: Bop!
- 22:03Bop!
- 22:05It seems like she's responding a lot better to Anthony,
- 22:07I think, today than she was.
- 22:09[music playing]
- 22:10ANTHONY BURRELL: Bop, bop.
- 22:11Bop, bop.
- 22:11Boom, boom. Bop, yes.
- 22:12OK?
- 22:14I think she's feeling a little more comfortable with him.
- 22:16Anthony is exhibiting a softer side today to Mary.
- 22:21A little bit more personality, but I hate the music.
- 22:23You have people thinking you can't do this.
- 22:25I know you can.
- 22:27The technique is there.
- 22:28Let's go again.
- 22:29What don't you like about the music?
- 22:31What is it-- what is it about it?
- 22:32It sounds country to me.
- 22:34The way I get it, you don't like the music.
- 22:36You've been kind of upset since you've been here.
- 22:39Nothing is really jiving for you.
- 22:41YVETTE WALTS: There's definitely a tension with Gi and Rick.
- 22:44Sounds like to me, if she doesn't win,
- 22:47you're going right back to, well, it was because of this,
- 22:49or it was because of that, or it was because of this.
- 22:52Both their kids have a solo, and they're both competing
- 22:54really against each other.
- 22:56So it's intense.
- 22:57Excuse after excuse after excuse.
- 23:00GINA DUDASH: I'm not making excuses for Mari.
- 23:02Mari had legitimate reasons as to why
- 23:04there were some setbacks.
- 23:05ALLI REYNOLDS: Do we all agree that the proof
- 23:06is in the pudding?
- 23:07RICK TESTERMAN: I agree, the proof is in the pudding.
- 23:09ALLI REYNOLDS: All right, then I think
- 23:10tomorrow will speak volumes.
- 23:20CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Today, we are at Masters
- 23:23of Dance in Columbus, Ohio.
- 23:25And some of the finest dance studios in this area
- 23:28are here competing.
- 23:29This is the second week with this team,
- 23:31and there has been tension all over the board.
- 23:34And I just am not seeing any unity.
- 23:36I'm not seeing this team come together the way I want it to.
- 23:40I just hope everyone puts their personal best out on stage.
- 23:44RICK TESTERMAN: Hey.
- 23:44Look what I brought.
- 23:46WOMAN: Oh, my God.
- 23:46WOMAN: Another mascot?
- 23:48CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Anybody who doesn't do well today
- 23:50gets to take it home and take care of all of its poop turds.
- 23:53Who doesn't do well?
- 23:54CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Yeah.
- 23:55I absolutely love bunnies.
- 23:57And people do rabbit foot for good luck,
- 23:59so we've got the whole bunny for our mascot.
- 24:02I just want to put out there to you,
- 24:04this is our second competition together as one
- 24:07big, happy family.
- 24:09Do you remember what I said last week?
- 24:12I said that, ideally, I wanted a team of five.
- 24:16You can do the math.
- 24:18JALEN TESTERMAN: I feel kind of nervous because what
- 24:21I feel it's going to be me who had to leave the team.
- 24:23CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: I'm going to go check in.
- 24:25So get ready, guys, because I'm excited for a big day.
- 24:27[suspenseful music]
- 24:31GINA DUDASH: I hope Mari's not the one going home.
- 24:33I'm hoping that Mari will prove herself,
- 24:35and maybe she'll earn a spot on that team.
- 24:39CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: I think that Rick is probably
- 24:40pretty nervous about Jalen doing this contemporary piece.
- 24:43I think that Rick is very confident when
- 24:45Jalen is spinning on his head.
- 24:47But I think that he's probably a little nervous,
- 24:50he wants Jalen on this team.
- 24:51[laughing]
- 24:53[cheers and applause]
- 24:55ANTHONY BURRELL: Pirouette, what's the pirouette position?
- 24:57Fum fum fum fum fum fum.
- 25:01OK, go work on that.
- 25:02That's good.
- 25:03[suspenseful music]
- 25:05You're going to nail those three turns, yeah?
- 25:07RICK TESTERMAN: Anthony tells Jalen he's
- 25:09got to nail a triple pirouette.
- 25:11I'm happy he has that faith in Jalen,
- 25:14but are we being set up to fail?
- 25:16I just want the both of you to know, it's about you two.
- 25:20I think you're in the same category, yeah?
- 25:22ALL: Yeah.
- 25:23Oh, wow, we have a contest.
- 25:25GINA DUDASH: I'm a little bit worried about Mari going up
- 25:28with Jalen because, once again, Rick is gloating,
- 25:30and he is confident.
- 25:33And I guess the way I approach things, I never say,
- 25:36I've got it in the bag, because there's always a chance that
- 25:38you don't.
- 25:39I think you're going to do great.
- 25:40Squeeze your center.
- 25:42Don't rush.
- 25:43Breathe.
- 25:44Just relax.
- 25:45You got it, OK?
- 25:46Oh, we're ready.
- 25:47Let's do it.
- 25:48You're ready, kiddo?
- 25:49RICK TESTERMAN: Jalen's not ready to go,
- 25:49Jalen's ready to win.
- 25:50CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: May the best dancer win.
- 25:53[cheers and applause]
- 25:58ANNOUNCER: All right, moving ahead just a little bit
- 26:00with the program, with entry number 19, 1-9.
- 26:03Elite Junior Solo division, this is Mari with "Still I Rise."
- 26:07[cheers and applause]
- 26:09CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: I need to know that Mari can perform
- 26:11under pressure.
- 26:12Last week, she was sick.
- 26:13And this week, she got so nervous in rehearsal.
- 26:15This time, there should be no excuses.
- 26:18I want her to be amazing.
- 26:20[MUSIC - TRADING VOICES, "RED MOON RISING"]
- 26:21(SINGING) I can feel it when the day goes down.
- 26:27And I can feel it when you're not around.
- 26:34You can hide behind the clouds for now.
- 26:38Keep yourself concealed.
- 26:41You won't change the way I feel.
- 26:45[instrumental music]
- 26:58GINA DUDASH: I think Mari may have forgotten a step,
- 27:01and so she ad-libbed a little bit, which is a smart thing
- 27:03to do.
- 27:05But I don't think Anthony's going to be happy about it.
- 27:06[MUSIC - TRADING VOICES, "RED MOON RISING"]
- 27:08(SINGING) Then pull you close to me.
- 27:16[drumming]
- 27:23[cheers and applause]
- 27:26CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Mari did a great job with her solo,
- 27:28although there was a portion where she forgot.
- 27:31That's cracking under pressure to me.
- 27:33ANNOUNCER: All right, coming to the stage next [inaudible]
- 27:37with entry number 21.
- 27:39CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: All of my dancers
- 27:41have to be able to do a triple pirouette.
- 27:42And Jalen is no exception.
- 27:44ANNOUNCER: Jalen with "One Last Goodbye."
- 27:46[cheers and applause]
- 27:50CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Jalen!
- 27:52Whoo!
- 27:56[MUSIC - TY TAYLOR, "ONE MORE LAST GOODBYE"]
- 28:04(SINGING) Suppose that you were never mine,
- 28:09and I was never yours.
- 28:12Suppose that we could find a remedy.
- 28:19One more goodbye, love, because my love
- 28:23is unwilling to be gone.
- 28:26One more, I will cry, love, because my love is still
- 28:32here holding on.
- 28:34JALEN TESTERMAN: On stage, I messed up.
- 28:36I did not do much of a pirouette.
- 28:38I think Cathy will be proud of me
- 28:40because at least I didn't get frustrated,
- 28:42and I did the rest of my routine.
- 28:43[MUSIC - TY TAYLOR, "ONE MORE LAST GOODBYE"]
- 28:44(SINGING) One more last goodbye!
- 28:45[cheers and applause]
- 28:48(SINGING) One more-- one more last goodbye!
- 28:59[cheers and applause]
- 29:07[suspenseful music]
- 29:10ANNOUNCER: That was entry number 21, Jalen,
- 29:12with "One Last Goodbye."
- 29:13MARI DUDASH: Jalen has a really big chance
- 29:15of winning because he uses a lot of emotion when he dances.
- 29:19And I think the judges are really into it.
- 29:21WOMAN: Oh-oh.
- 29:22Hold on.
- 29:23I see a straight line here.
- 29:25WOMAN: You look underwhelmed.
- 29:26WOMAN: What's wrong?
- 29:27We need to be realistic.
- 29:28[suspenseful music]
- 29:30CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Jalen left the door open with that triple.
- 29:33No, he didn't.
- 29:34They didn't know he wasn't--
- 29:35supposed to do a triple.
- 29:36And he didn't feel that he can land it,
- 29:38so he improvised, so he wouldn't ruin his dance.
- 29:41I think Jalen did a phenomenal job.
- 29:43WOMAN: He danced smarter.
- 29:44CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: But next time, he has to do the triple,
- 29:46if there's a next time.
- 29:47ANTHONY BURRELL: Mari did good.
- 29:48Mari did OK.
- 29:49She was strongest out in her turns.
- 29:51But half of the dance, she's just walked around.
- 29:53WOMAN: I know. What happened there?
- 29:55CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: She forgot. She forgot her dance.
- 29:56I don't know.
- 29:58CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: How do you think she did against Jalen?
- 29:59GINA DUDASH: I don't even want to guess and jinx
- 30:01that because I think both of them have their strong points.
- 30:04Somebody's going home.
- 30:05[suspenseful music]
- 30:07CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: We are really stressing out right now.
- 30:10At this point, we need to get prepared for the duet.
- 30:12WOMAN: Can you put that on?
- 30:14WOMAN: Here's some pins and--
- 30:15[suspenseful music]
- 30:17CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: My gosh, she
- 30:19did-- poor kid's falling forward.
- 30:21WOMAN: Are you nervous?
- 30:21WOMAN: I'm sorry, sorry.
- 30:22WOMAN: Hadley, are you nervous?
- 30:23You seem nervous.
- 30:24CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: My gosh, are you crying?
- 30:26She's crying.
- 30:27No, she's good.
- 30:28Hadley is my strongest dancer.
- 30:30I need her to get herself under control
- 30:34to score high with the judges.
- 30:36I don't know what's going on with her right now.
- 30:38YVETTE WALTS: She has faith in both of you.
- 30:41The headpiece for the "Tribal Affair" is humongous.
- 30:45And I noticed that Hadley's starting to get really
- 30:48upset and concerned.
- 30:49All she kept saying was, OK, I don't think that I'm
- 30:51going to be able to go out there and try
- 30:53to go for the win with this on my head.
- 30:55Mom, I can't do it.
- 30:56I'm not wearing this headpiece.
- 30:57But she's never ever had something
- 30:59that large on her head before.
- 31:02So I said to Hadley, you need to borrow my strength right now.
- 31:07How would you change this headpiece
- 31:09to make it feel better?
- 31:10WOMAN: Can you give me a safety pin?
- 31:12CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Do you not want to wear it?
- 31:14[inaudible]
- 31:15YVETTE WALTS: We'll practice then.
- 31:16No practice.
- 31:18I think there's a lot of tension this week
- 31:20because everyone wants to stay on this team,
- 31:23but one person has to get cut.
- 31:24It's all right.
- 31:25It's OK.
- 31:26[suspenseful music]
- 31:32[cheers and applause]
- 31:38ANNOUNCER: All right, the next in the Junior Duet/Trio
- 31:41division, this is entry number 34--
- 31:43Nicholas and Hadley with "Tribal Affair."
- 31:45CATHY NESBITT-STEIN: Hadley's having a meltdown
- 31:46because the headpiece is extremely heavy.
- 31:49She's got to do some very difficult partnering.
- 31:52And she's just a nervous wreck, that she's not going to do well
- 31:55for Candy Apples.
- 31:56[music - pailboy, "tofurkey"]
- 32:12(SINGING) Mm, if you want me to stay, I'll be around the way.
- 32:18I send this message over to you now.
- 32:22And if you want me to go, I will be out that door.
- 32:27And you will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever see me around.
- 32:35[clapping]
- 32:41[cheers and applause]
- 32:44[inaudible]!
- 32:47YVETTE WALTS: I think the costuming was phenomenal.
- 32:51I think the choreography was brilliant.
- 32:54And they pulled it off.
- 32:55It was a great day for them.
- 32:57[cheers and applause]
- 33:00HADLEY WALTS: With all the drama this week,
- 33:03with the headpiece and everything,
- 33:05it was just such a relief.
- 33:06That was so great.
- 33:08WOMAN: We need to get ready for group.
- 33:09Yes, please get ready for the group.
- 33:11[suspenseful music]
- 33:13[cheers and applause]
- 33:16ABBY LEE MILLER: It is the grand finale of "Abby's Ultimate
- 33:19Dance Competition."
- 33:20And right now, it's all about Maddie.
- 33:22This routine shows that Maddie truly is a star.
- 33:26For our first non-competition performance of the evening,
- 33:29we have Maddie of The Abby Lee Dance Company,
- 33:33and she's choreographed by Abby.
- 33:35Make some noise for them.
- 33:36[cheers and applause]
- 33:40[MUSIC - ALEXX CALISE, "SURVIVE"]
- 33:42(SINGING) Oh.
