3. 0:02>> I got 35 years added to my time in
4. 0:04Florida and sent back to Pennsylvania
5. 0:08with 105 years total plus the death
6. 0:12penalty and I was never expected to walk
7. 0:16free again.
8. 0:17>> Were there immediate beatdowns?
9. 0:19>> No, they waited a year to get me for the
10. 0:21escape.
11. 0:22>> Then what happened? They lured me out of
12. 0:25um back on death row after I escaped.
13. 0:29The prison officers lured me from my
14. 0:31cell to go to my legal work boxes that
15. 0:34were in storage. They took me up a set
16. 0:37of metal stairs opposite death row that
17. 0:40was like a warehouse building with big
18. 0:42open windows and lights inside so you
19. 0:46could see who was in that building. And
20. 0:48then they beat me for four minutes in
21. 0:51front of everybody that could look out
22. 0:52of their defro cells. And then they
23. 0:55stuck a riot club up underneath my arms
24. 0:58and paraded me around to show everybody
25. 1:00what they did to me.
26. 1:01>> Did they beat you with clubs?
27. 1:03>> Yeah, oak sticks.
28. 1:06>> Did you go warm and numb and just stop
29. 1:08feeling it at some point?
30. 1:09>> Oh, no. I did the smartest thing
31. 1:11possible. So soon as I saw the attack
32. 1:14was on, I was wondering why they put the
33. 1:18cuffs in front. That's a like these
34. 1:21little moments. You're always cuffed in
35. 1:23the back. Tonight's show, they had me
36. 1:26cuffed in front with a guard on either
37. 1:28side. Big ones, too.
38. 1:31But when they got me up on the second
39. 1:32landing, two guards in riot gear came
40. 1:35right out of nowhere and took over on my
41. 1:37arms. That's why they had the arms in
42. 1:40front. And then they brought me in and
43. 1:43they flung me on the floor and they were
44. 1:45standing on me at first and they got the
45. 1:47cuffs off. They put me like stepped on
46. 1:50my shoulders, stepped on my knees and
47. 1:52everything, held me down, took the cuffs
48. 1:55off. Then they stood me up and the two
49. 1:59officers who got suspended for my escape
50. 2:03for not properly searching me walked up.
51. 2:06As soon as they started coming at me, I
52. 2:08tried to attack them.
53. 2:10Well, I knew they were going to just
54. 2:12light into me, so they knocked me
55. 2:13unconscious. And a guy named Murphy told
56. 2:15me that they beat me for four minutes
57. 2:17because he timed it.
58. 2:20>> What injuries did you wake up with?
59. 2:22>> Oh, man. I pissed blood for a month. I
60. 2:24thought I'd never stop peeing blood.
61. 2:27So,
62. 2:29they beat me primarily all on the backs
63. 2:31of my legs, on my butt, beat me all over
64. 2:35my head and face. I have a detached
65. 2:38retina in my left eye. They blew my eye
66. 2:40out so bad. I never thought I'd see out
67. 2:42of that eye again.
68. 2:44So,
69. 2:46I really suffered for a long time with
70. 2:49headaches after that beat. And that's
71. 2:50why that was one of the worst um brain
72. 2:54trauma incidents that I had
73. 2:57during the whole thing,
74. 2:59that one. And I also got
75. 3:03attacked one time [snorts]
76. 3:06and beaten pretty badly by a couple
77. 3:08inmates
78. 3:09>> over what?
79. 3:10>> Over attempt to get money. So I got hit
80. 3:14with a pool ball that was in a sock
81. 3:18and he hit me really hard with it to the
82. 3:21point that I saw stars and then a friend
83. 3:25of his tried to stab me in in the
84. 3:27secondary attack. Who owed money to who?
85. 3:30>> No, it was um back in the 80s if you
86. 3:33committed a a horrendous crime and you
87. 3:36killed somebody
88. 3:39um if a prisoner took you out, they
89. 3:42would receive money on their books.
