- 0:04>> Hi, I'm Jim Gary and welcome to Pat
- 0:06Illup he's workshop. If you've been
- 0:07following my channel, you may know that
- 0:09my daily driver has been a Tesla Model 3
- 0:12that I purchased in 2019. I also have a
- 0:14Tacoma pickup truck I purchased new in
- 0:172013. Mostly to support my research cave
- 0:20diving, hauling students, hauling dive
- 0:22equipment and a boat. Since I retired, I
- 0:24only use the Tacoma once in a while,
- 0:26usually when getting gravel, cement,
- 0:28topsoil or lumber. Well, back in 2019,
- 0:31the Cybertruck was introduced by Tesla
- 0:33and the version I wanted was supposed to
- 0:35be around $45,000.
- 0:37But when they finally started selling
- 0:38them in 2024, they cost $80,000 and up.
- 0:42So I held off waiting for the price to
- 0:44come down a bit. Well, in February 2026,
- 0:47Tesla announced a lower trim Cybertruck
- 0:49model at $59,000, which when corrected
- 0:52for inflation is near what they
- 0:53originally said at the introduction in
- 0:562019. This model was missing a few
- 0:58things. It retains the all-wheel two
- 1:01motors and retains the electric tonneau
- 1:03cover, but it has steel instead of alloy
- 1:05wheels, it has coil over suspension
- 1:08instead of air suspension, and it lacks
- 1:10the underbed storage compartment, it
- 1:12lacks a second screen for those sitting
- 1:14in the rear seat, and has fabric instead
- 1:16of pleather seats. And there's a few
- 1:18other differences, but plenty of videos
- 1:20about that out on YouTube. So I ordered
- 1:22the $59,000
- 1:24Cybertruck on February 22nd, 2026, and a
- 1:27good thing as they raised the price to
- 1:2969,000 after 10 days. Officially, it's
- 1:32called the base all-wheel drive
- 1:34Cybertruck. I received the truck on July
- 1:3625th and immediately sold my Tacoma and
- 1:39will sell my Model 3 in the coming
- 1:41weeks. So the Cybertruck will be used
- 1:43for the functions of both of my
- 1:44vehicles. In today's video, I show off
- 1:47the Cybertruck and how I added some
- 1:49accessories to make the truck more
- 1:50usable. And as always, I welcome any
- 1:52comments or suggestions you may have. If
- 1:55you found this video interesting, there
- 1:56are links to my other videos in the
- 1:58description below. So, please like and
- 2:00subscribe. Now, let's get on with that
- 2:03video. So, here's my new Cybertruck.
- 2:05This is the base all-wheel drive model.
- 2:08I ordered it February 22nd and I got it
- 2:10about a week ago, which would have been
- 2:12July 25th, I think. Anyway, it's uh
- 2:15pretty much like all the other ones, but
- 2:17it's got a few things different.
- 2:21Just take a walk around.
- 2:27It's got a frunk up here.
- 2:30And there's a button here that sometimes
- 2:31works.
- 2:33Still not totally sure about it.
- 2:36There it goes.
- 2:38So, there's a button pops up.
- 2:41I got stuff stored in here already,
- 2:44naturally.
- 2:46Go around the side.
- 2:49Yeah, it all looks pretty good.
- 2:52Now, when you get to the back,
- 2:55there's some buttons here
- 2:56on the back left side of the tail near
- 2:59the tailgate. This one opens the
- 3:01tailgate.
- 3:03Just pops it open.
- 3:04And as you can see, I've already been
- 3:05hauling stuff. That was gravel.
- 3:07>> [snorts]
- 3:08>> Uh and you can also run the um
- 3:12open the back.
- 3:20So, here's all the stuff I've got to add
- 3:22to it because they left a lot of things
- 3:24off to make this truck cheaper,
- 3:26substantially cheaper. And one of the
- 3:28things missing were the L-tracks along
- 3:30each side.
- 3:32The holes are all there and you can buy
- 3:34the L-tracks. They're in this box.
- 3:37And also uh the the more expensive ones
- 3:39have a a lift a lift-up panel here that
- 3:42gets into an area below, which I don't
- 3:44have. I got floor mats and I got a cargo
- 3:47divider that'll go across here once I
- 3:49put the L-tracks in so I can just keep
- 3:51some cargo up here without it sliding
- 3:54all the way to the back. One of the
- 3:56problems with this
- 3:57truck is that because
- 3:59the sides are sloped,
- 4:02when you get up to the back of the bed,
- 4:03you can't really reach down into it. And
- 4:05that's kind of a negative about the
- 4:07shape of this uh vehicle.
- 4:11The other things I've got here I
- 4:12actually ordered from Tesla because they
- 4:15have to fit, and one of them is the
- 4:17L-tracks. And the L-tracks came on the
- 4:20premiums,
- 4:21but for some reason, even though they're
- 4:23not that expensive,
- 4:25I just say they're just trying to
- 4:26nickel-and-dime those of us that were
- 4:27buying the cheaper
- 4:30frame.
- 4:32But you can buy these, actually anybody,
- 4:34cuz a lot of trucks use the L
- 4:37brackets. You [snorts] can buy them
- 4:39outside of Tesla, but then you have to
- 4:41trim them to fit.
- 4:43So I just ordered them direct.
- 4:46$250 from Tesla.
- 4:52And what I'm curious about is whether it
- 4:54came with the nuts and bolts.
- 4:56Cuz if it didn't, I'm going to have to
- 4:58Oh, it did.
- 5:02So there's the bolts.
- 5:04So it came with those.
- 5:06And here's the other L bracket.
- 5:12The only thing I've read is to make sure
- 5:14you don't let it lay all the way down in
- 5:16that ledge right there, but to lift it
- 5:18up a little bit. So it turns out there's
- 5:20a left one and a right one. They're not
- 5:22interchangeable.
- 5:25And
- 5:25they only go one way, front to back.
- 5:29So you've got to make sure this bolt
- 5:30hole lines up with this bolt hole here.
- 5:34And I'm just going to set it in there.
- 5:39Put a couple of bolts in lightly at each
- 5:41end.
- 5:43I'm going to go ahead and crawl back
- 5:45there. Oh, no, a bug. Is it a June bug.
- 5:47Off you go, June bug.
- 5:50Okay.
- 5:52Let's see.
- 5:58Okay, there's 1 2 3. Here's a blank.
- 6:05It's a little warm out here. It rained
- 6:07all morning, so it's not real hot. It's
- 6:08just really humid.
- 6:13And I don't want to strip it. I don't
- 6:14know what kind of metal that's going
- 6:16into. I'm assuming it's steel. So, I've
- 6:18got it pulled up as far as it'll go. So,
- 6:20I just want to turn it.
- 6:34Okay, that side's done.
- 6:36To go with the L-track, I bought a
- 6:38number of fasteners cuz all you get with
- 6:41the base Cybertruck is you get these
- 6:43pull-out rings, which are nice. There's
- 6:45four of them, one on each corner. But
- 6:46these, everywhere you see one of these
- 6:48plastic pieces, there's a place you can
- 6:50undo the bolt that's in there and you
- 6:52can put in a different kind of holder.
- 6:54And notice there's nothing at the top.
- 6:56So, I bought a few things. I bought a
- 6:58cleat. I think I bought two of these
- 6:59cleats. These were like 20 bucks a piece
- 7:02or something.
- 7:03Amazon, no big deal. Just want to make
- 7:05sure they fit before I put the other
- 7:07side in. Would have preferred one that
- 7:09you didn't have to use a screw. So, you
- 7:12put it in there. Yes, you just have to
- 7:13make sure that's loose so it can go in
- 7:15that hole and then you slide it over and
- 7:18then I think you just tighten it down.
- 7:20Yep, that's it. So, I wanted to find one
- 7:22that there was just a thumb switch or
- 7:24something you could pull so you could
- 7:26slide it anywhere you want, but I
- 7:27couldn't find one. But I'll keep my eyes
- 7:29out for something like that.
- 7:31I also bought some D-rings. Again, these
- 7:33are from Amazon.
- 7:36And these are the ones that fit in the
- 7:37bed itself. So, they would go down here
- 7:40in place of this.
- 7:42So, let's bring the camera over. This
- 7:44sits over there, you pull it out, and
- 7:46you have to undo that bolt and set this
- 7:48in its place, and this acts just like
- 7:50this one here. Only it's a little
- 7:52bigger. And I'm not going to put these
- 7:54in until I decide where I want them. But
- 7:56as you can see, there's one of these
- 7:58plastic caps, there's one two, three,
- 8:01four of them along one, two, three along
- 8:03four different parts of the bed. So,
- 8:06they can go pretty much anywhere. But
- 8:07I'm going to hold off on installing them
- 8:09until I need them. I'll keep them in the
- 8:11front. I also bought the strap fixer.
- 8:15So, these fit in the L bracket, and
- 8:17these use a thumb screw, so those are
- 8:19nice. So, I want to put one midway back
- 8:22and one pretty much all the way back on
- 8:24either side. That's why I got four of
- 8:26these. Pop up there and do that. Don't
- 8:27need any tools.
- 8:31Okay, and I want it to be about halfway.
- 8:33So, I'm going to count 1 2 3
- 8:354. I think I'll put it at about 24 from
- 8:38the front. And they don't have to be
- 8:39exact. It doesn't really matter if
- 8:40you're just running a rope around. By
- 8:42the way, I'll be doing a lot less of
- 8:44tying loads in here than I did with my
- 8:45Tacoma because this does have the power
- 8:48to no cover. So, for a lot of things,
- 8:50all I'll be doing is but throwing the
- 8:51stuff in there and
- 8:53and then shutting the tonneau cover, not
- 8:54worrying about it. Okay, so there's that
- 8:56one. So, I'm going to go ahead and do
- 8:57the other side off camera. So, now I've
- 8:59got both sides of the L track in.
- 9:01They're all set up. And I was just
- 9:02checking if I had to tie something down
- 9:04without actually getting in the truck. I
- 9:06can reach this one
- 9:07and I can reach this one.
- 9:10And this one I can reach, but a shorter
- 9:12person would have a hard time. I'm
- 9:14standing on my tippy toes, but I can
- 9:15easily thread a a rope through there if
- 9:17I needed to.
- 9:19Cargo divider is the last thing I
- 9:21ordered
- 9:23so far.
- 9:27It is heavy duty. For 350 bucks, it
- 9:29better be. My big concern is how easy
- 9:31it's going to be to move because if
- 9:33you're getting a bunch of plywood, you
- 9:35might not want to have a cargo divider
- 9:36in there. You might want to just have it
- 9:39the bed flat. All right, here's some
- 9:40instructions. There's supposed to be two
- 9:42spacers and two screws in here
- 9:44somewhere. Oh, I see, the spacers are on
- 9:46there already. So, this goes this way.
- 9:50I think it's ambidextrous, so I don't
- 9:51think it matters which way it goes.
- 9:54And I'm going to want it positioned
- 9:57somewhere around here. I just want to
- 9:59have it so if I put groceries or
- 10:02something here, they won't be rolling
- 10:03all over the truck. And so, I think the
- 10:05rubber feet just stay there. They don't
- 10:06do anything except friction. And then,
- 10:09you align this up to a pair of holes
- 10:13and shut it. It locks in. It's that
- 10:14easy. Wow, that is [snorts] really nice.
- 10:17Okay, so that's good. No rattles, no
- 10:19muss, no fuss.
- 10:22So, we're done. If you're not familiar
- 10:24with Cybertrucks, you may not know that
- 10:27in here,
- 10:28you have two 110 outlets and a 220
- 10:31outlet. So, that's really really handy.
- 10:33You can actually charge another Tesla if
- 10:36you have the charging adapter. So,
- 10:37finally, there's a way to get charged if
- 10:39you're uh if you run out of charge
- 10:40without having it towed. Just call
- 10:41somebody with a Cybertruck. So, let's
- 10:43close this down.
- 10:47Close the vault.
- 10:55Close the tailgate.
- 10:58And we're done.
- 11:01One really nice feature of the
- 11:02Cybertruck is all the space you've got
- 11:04inside. I mean, it feels comfortable,
- 11:06but there's room. It's easy to clean. I
- 11:07just had to vacuum cuz we've been
- 11:09transporting our son's dog around, kind
- 11:12of a lab mix, and he's he sheds like
- 11:14crazy. So, this is the front seats, the
- 11:16driver seat. And then, you go to the
- 11:18back. To open these doors, you just push
- 11:19this button. They pop open.
- 11:22You grab them.
- 11:24And what I really like about the back
- 11:25here is that
- 11:28you pull on this ring
- 11:30and the seats fold down like that. But,
- 11:32if we're transporting dogs, I just pull
- 11:34on the ring
- 11:36and fold the seats up. So, I got them
- 11:38both folded up now and you can just see
- 11:40all the room I've got in there. It's
- 11:41maybe a little hard to see because it's
- 11:43black. But now the dogs can just pop
- 11:45right in there and they're not on the
- 11:47seats. But I tell you that carpet that
- 11:49is in these things just absorbs fur. I
- 11:51just spent 15 minutes vacuuming out as
- 11:53much of the hair in there as I could. I
- 11:55mean the the carpet looked beige instead
- 11:58of black. There was so much dog hair.
- 12:01So, the floor mats I bought were $189 on
- 12:05Amazon and these are 3W AutoLife
- 12:07specifically for the Cybertruck, of
- 12:09course.
- 12:11Let's get them out.
- 12:14See what we got.
- 12:17That's a front floor mat here.
- 12:20So, that's the driver's side, I think.
- 12:25So, there it is. So, this fits in the
- 12:27notches in the back and that goes right
- 12:29along the front. These back doors open
- 12:31so wide. It's really easy to get stuff
- 12:33in and out.
- 12:35So, there's these two bump outs here
- 12:36that that the seats hinge on.
- 12:41I don't say they fit too well around
- 12:43there, but I don't think that matters so
- 12:44much. Yeah, so
- 12:48they don't fit perfectly around those
- 12:50pieces that stick up, but it's good
- 12:52enough. And let's put the seat down and
- 12:53see how it looks.
- 12:57Oh, yeah, that's nice. So, hopefully
- 12:58that'll take care of a lot of the dog
- 13:00hair issues I've been having.
- 13:04So, [clears throat] I've got the seat
- 13:05all the way back.
- 13:07They're really sticky.
- 13:10And they stick to that carpet really
- 13:11well, so they're not going to be moving
- 13:12around.
- 13:14See if I can get a better fit here.
- 13:18Yep. Oh, that's that that fits really
- 13:20nice. It fits right up against the
- 13:21stanchion.
- 13:23I like that. So, that's going to be
- 13:24again a lot easier to keep clean. So,
- 13:26I'm going to shove the seat all the way
- 13:28back.
- 13:29It'll be a little bit easier.
- 13:32I've got grocery bags use reusable
- 13:35grocery bags under there.
- 13:37So, let me get this up inside.
- 13:40There it goes.
- 13:43Take the bags [snorts] out.
- 13:47Oh.
- 13:55Yeah, let's see. That fits perfectly.
- 13:57That's really nice. So, those are pretty
- 13:58good fitting mats except for the back
- 14:00mat didn't quite fit perfectly, but it's
- 14:02nothing I care about. It's not
- 14:04noticeable.
- 14:06Another thing I bought that didn't come
- 14:08with this cheaper version of the
- 14:10Cybertruck is a tray for the top of the
- 14:12center console. So, I bought this one.
- 14:14This is by Spigen. I think it was 40
- 14:16bucks somewhere around there on Amazon.
- 14:18It's kind of in there already. So, here
- 14:20it is and the nice thing about it is got
- 14:22a place for the cable to come out if
- 14:23you're using a cable for charging your
- 14:26other things and it's got a little
- 14:27rubber flap so it stays in. It won't
- 14:29just disappear.
- 14:31And they have other kinds of these
- 14:33console trays, some that are double
- 14:35layered,
- 14:36but I keep a box of tissues in mine and
- 14:38so I didn't want the double layer one
- 14:40cuz it probably wouldn't fit. So, this
- 14:42just pops right in. It actually fits
- 14:44better than the one I had in my Model 3.
- 14:46So, I've got a few extra pair of
- 14:47sunglasses here.
- 14:49My gym earphones, got a
- 14:53Leatherman I keep in there. So, that'll
- 14:55be good.
- 14:58I don't have the box for it anymore, but
- 14:59this
- 15:01is really nice. This is a pad that goes
- 15:03over the top and it's it just slips over
- 15:05it and it's got little flaps on either
- 15:07side you could stick sunglasses in or
- 15:09something. And I really like this.
- 15:14Just slips right on. You got those nice
- 15:16flaps there.
- 15:19And uh
- 15:20feels comfortable. It's easy to wipe
- 15:22off. And it's already got a place to put
- 15:23the phone. And this is supposed to be a
- 15:25charging dock, two charging docks. But
- 15:28since I have my phone in a case, that
- 15:30doesn't work, but it's still a fantastic
- 15:32place to put my phone. Again, the Tesla
- 15:34Model 3 I had just didn't have a place
- 15:36for to put the phone. So, I actually
- 15:38bought a special aftermarket tray that
- 15:40fit underneath here. But I figured when
- 15:43I saw this that I wouldn't need that.
- 15:44So, I was trying to buy just the things
- 15:46I really need, not just stuff just for
- 15:49the sake of oh, I got a new truck, let
- 15:50me buy everything for it. So, I I was
- 15:52careful to buy stuff that I thought I
- 15:54would actually use. And then I'll drive
- 15:56it for a while, then I can decide if
- 15:58there's any other things I need.
- 16:01There's a bottom tray down here. I've
- 16:03got an umbrella in it, but you can
- 16:05actually put it a drink in there or a
- 16:07thermos or something. But then there's
- 16:08this weirdly shaped area that I suppose
- 16:11you could put stuff in, but it probably
- 16:12wouldn't stay there. Anyway, this
- 16:14company called Voronatri came up with
- 16:16little things that fit in here. So, if
- 16:18there's the box, let's get her open.
- 16:22There's two of them in there.
- 16:24I don't think there's much to installing
- 16:25them. Looks like there's a little piece
- 16:27of plastic there. Here's one of the
- 16:29doors. There's a rubber
- 16:31mat that fits in the bottom of it.
- 16:35Here's the other door.
- 16:37It said there's a protective piece of
- 16:39paper to put in there and I couldn't
- 16:40find one. They said to put the paper
- 16:42here, so I got a scrap of paper.
- 16:49There it is.
- 16:51That's it. Pops open.
- 16:53So, I like that. This little thing, it
- 16:55says it's part C, but it never mentions
- 16:57what it's for. I'll keep it just in case
- 16:59I ever figure it out. So, I'll go do the
- 17:01other one off camera. Oh, and it's got
- 17:03the silicone rubber mat that sits in the
- 17:05bottom, so stuff doesn't rattle around
- 17:07in there, which is a good thing.
- 17:09So, this is the last time you'll see the
- 17:10Cybertruck my Cybertruck in stainless
- 17:13steel.
- 17:14It's going in to get wrapped.
- 17:16Um
- 17:19tomorrow.
- 17:21And they're going to keep it for a few
- 17:23days.
- 17:25Shut the frunk.
- 17:27And I can show you that.
- 17:30If you go in the
- 17:31driver seat.
- 17:36All these mats are nice.
- 17:38And there you can see on my screen I've
- 17:40already been able to change the screen
- 17:41color of my Cybertruck to yellow.
- 17:44So, that's what it's going to look like.
- 17:45And why did I pick yellow?
- 17:47Well, I thought that the stainless steel
- 17:49one looked kind of aggressive. Maybe a
- 17:51little um I don't know, just pushy. And
- 17:54so, I was thinking, well, if it was in a
- 17:56color, it might be lighter. And then I
- 17:57was thinking, well, a nice yellow would
- 18:00be non-threatening cuz I don't want
- 18:02people to look at my truck and think
- 18:03it's threatening-looking. And I think
- 18:05the stainless ones
- 18:07the black ones have that aspect to them.
- 18:09So, mine's going to be a nice friendly
- 18:11yellow. I found this to be an
- 18:13astoundingly nice vehicle. Once you get
- 18:15inside, you completely lose the feeling
- 18:17the exterior may give you. And instead,
- 18:20you're simply in a roomy, quiet, very
- 18:22smooth vehicle. It is far more quiet and
- 18:24smooth to drive than my Model 3 is. And
- 18:27with the rear-wheel steering, it is
- 18:29incredibly maneuverable. Full self-drive
- 18:31is implemented extremely well, and it
- 18:33not only drives itself, but it parks
- 18:35itself, too. Something my Model 3 didn't
- 18:37do. And I'll likely do a driving video
- 18:40in the next few weeks, but there are
- 18:41plenty of videos about that out on
- 18:43YouTube, as well. I will still have my
- 18:45regular motorhome video out this Friday.
- 18:47Anyway, thanks for watching. If you
- 18:49enjoyed this video, please like and
- 18:50subscribe. Similar videos of mine are
- 18:53linked in the description below. Bye.
