- 0:02ABBY: Previously on "Dance Moms"--
- 0:03This is the 2012 Abby Lee Dance Company concert.
- 0:05You're getting thrown to the wolves, woman.
- 0:07They're gonna chew you up and spit you out.
- 0:09Just be prepared. - You left.
- 0:10So we left. That's right.
- 0:11You always have excuses why your kids get what they get.
- 0:15Maddie, I asked to do a solo.
- 0:17You said no.
- 0:17I'm giving this part to Chloe.
- 0:19You need AA meeting.
- 0:20Now you need to go and see a therapist.
- 0:22You're a [BLEEP] liar. [APPLAUSE]
- 0:23ABBY: Our junior winner is Miss Maddie Ziegler.
- 0:26[CHEERING]
- 0:28Coming up on "Dance Moms"--
- 0:29She's allowed to dance.
- 0:30Yay!
- 0:31But she's not allowed to do tricks.
- 0:32OK.
- 0:33Just when I thought it couldn't get any crazier--
- 0:36We're here to see Abby.
- 0:37- --it got crazier. - You're Kaya.
- 0:38I'm Kaya. This is Nicaya.
- 0:39What are all the girls looking at?
- 0:41CHLOE: You don't just get to walk in and be on a competition
- 0:42team. - So far, I have just walked in.
- 0:44KELLY: Abby, just tell us what you're doing.
- 0:46Is Paige dancing in the dance or not?
- 0:48ABBY: If she's injured, she shouldn't be on stage.
- 0:50KELLY: I'm done!
- 0:52[DOOR SLAMS] [BLEEP] my kid!
- 0:55[THEME - NIKKO LOWE, "LIVIN' ON THE DANCE FLOOR"]
- 0:57(SINGING) Get up.
- 0:59Get on the floor.
- 1:01My world is with my girls, livin' on the dance floor.
- 1:06[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 1:12Come on, girls!
- 1:13Let's go!
- 1:14Come on.
- 1:20Congratulations on a successful dance concert.
- 1:25All of your performances were amazing.
- 1:28You showed the entire city of Pittsburgh
- 1:30why we are ranked nationally in the country as one
- 1:36of the top dance studios.
- 1:37The dance concert was a smashing success.
- 1:40I thought the kids were outstanding from beginning
- 1:44to end.
- 1:45But keep in mind, this is the road to nationals.
- 1:49This is where it gets tough, because we will be traveling
- 1:54to California to go to the iHollywood competition.
- 1:58[CHEERING]
- 2:00This competition is a big deal.
- 2:02And that's why it's important on our road to nationals.
- 2:05I want to put my little kids from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
- 2:09up against the big guns and see what happens.
- 2:11At the bottom of the pyramid, I have Paige.
- 2:16You couldn't do too much with the boot.
- 2:18I understand that.
- 2:18I want it to heal.
- 2:20You were supposed to see a doctor at four weeks.
- 2:22She's going this week.
- 2:23So let's hope, Paige, that you're
- 2:25going to be dancing again.
- 2:27Next, Brooke-- Brooke, the hip hop dance
- 2:32really wasn't your thing.
- 2:35Next, Mackenzie-- Kenzie, you went out there
- 2:40and you looked just like the big girls.
- 2:42However, I thought the hip hop choreography
- 2:45was a bit over your head.
- 2:47Moving up the pyramid, I have Nia.
- 2:50You received the award for the most improved student,
- 2:54and that is something to be very proud of.
- 2:57However, like I've said before, do not rest on your laurels.
- 3:01Next, Chloe-- Chloe, "Trapped," you did a great job
- 3:07in the role.
- 3:08And at the top of the pyramid is Maddie.
- 3:11Maddie, you're on top of the pyramid
- 3:14because you won the scholarship in your age division.
- 3:17[CHEERING]
- 3:20Kendall, you can see you're not on the pyramid yet.
- 3:24Keep working, keep trying, and you might get on this team.
- 3:29JILL: I think Abby's just playing games with me.
- 3:31She is torturing me and she's torturing Kendall.
- 3:37Mackenzie, you have a solo.
- 3:39You better do the whole number.
- 3:42Nia, you also have a solo.
- 3:44[APPLAUSE]
- 3:46Now, I have one more solo to give out.
- 3:50Who wants it?
- 3:51Who thinks they could do it?
- 3:55It's going to Chloe.
- 3:58I picked Chloe to do the solo this week because I still
- 4:01can't forget about Maddie and Melissa turning down a solo.
- 4:06Just remember, I can give the solo, and I can taketh away.
- 4:10Everybody is in the group routine.
- 4:13Kendall, I am inviting you to travel to California with us
- 4:19to participate in the group number.
- 4:21[APPLAUSE]
- 4:23You are dismissed.
- 4:24Spread apart.
- 4:26We have lots of work to do.
- 4:29[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 4:321, 2.
- 4:35You know, Abby put Paige in this group dance.
- 4:38I hope her foot gets cleared.
- 4:39When's your appointment?
- 4:40My appointment's tomorrow.
- 4:46ABBY: The group routine that we're doing is entitled,
- 4:50"I Can See the Kite Flying."
- 4:52Now, this piece is very important to the Abby Lee Dance
- 4:55Company.
- 4:56It's by the same author that wrote "Where
- 5:00Have All the Children Gone."
- 5:02And people recognize that all over the place.
- 5:05They ask me all the time about the number.
- 5:08So this has the same dark undertones.
- 5:11And the kids are actually in an insane asylum.
- 5:16And you see them rocking and fidgeting throughout the piece.
- 5:21I'm excited about it.
- 5:22I love it.
- 5:23I think this could be another big winner.
- 5:26This is quick, and quick, and step, together.
- 5:30You're rushing that.
- 5:30[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 5:31"I See the Kite Flying" is a really creepy number.
- 5:34We're all, like, mental patients.
- 5:37We see a kite, but we don't know if we actually see it.
- 5:40It's like in our head, or--
- 5:41I'm so confused.
- 5:43I don't know.
- 5:44I always told you, Abby does weird well.
- 5:47So the weirder the better.
- 5:48Yeah, it'll be spectacular.
- 5:49No one in LA will be doing anything like this.
- 5:52I don't think so either.
- 5:53No.
- 5:54ABBY: Hey.
- 5:55There's no getting out of this group, so learn it.
- 5:58GIANNA: 2, 3, 4, 5.
- 6:007.
- 6:01[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 6:04Hi, can I help you guys?
- 6:06This is Nicaya.
- 6:07We're here to see Abby. - Oh, yeah.
- 6:08She's expecting us.
- 6:09This is Nicaya.
- 6:10Hi, nice to meet you, sweetie.
- 6:12We're looking for a new studio to compete.
- 6:14ABBY: Hi. - Hi.
- 6:15Hello.
- 6:16ABBY: Hi, how you doing?
- 6:17I was approached by Kaya and her daughter Nicaya
- 6:21after our dance concert.
- 6:23I had no idea who the woman was.
- 6:25But it turns out she's from St. Louis from a very reputable
- 6:29teacher, a colleague of mine.
- 6:30So I'm going to check the kid out.
- 6:32That's the least I could do. You're Kaya.
- 6:34I'm Kaya. This is Nicaya.
- 6:36Nicaya, hi.
- 6:37What are all the girls looking at?
- 6:39There's someone here?
- 6:40She's inviting someone in.
- 6:41Do you want to get your shoes and your street clothes off?
- 6:44And I'm going to check her out a little bit.
- 6:45If you want to go up and sit with the moms,
- 6:47you're more than welcome to.
- 6:48All right.
- 6:49ABBY: I'm always looking to make my competition team stronger.
- 6:52Maybe this kid Nicaya and her mom
- 6:54are just what my team needs before nationals.
- 6:57There's certainly nothing like a surprise or two
- 6:59to wake everybody up. [MUSIC PLAYING]
- 7:01Hi. KAYA: Hello.
- 7:02Hi, how are you?
- 7:03I'm fine.
- 7:03HOLLY: Good.
- 7:04I'm Melissa.
- 7:06What's your name? - I'm Kaya.
- 7:07Kaya-- pretty name.
- 7:08Melissa.
- 7:09Hi, I'm Holly. Nice to meet you.
- 7:10- Hi, Holly. - I'm Kelly.
- 7:11Kelly.
- 7:12CHRISTI: Christi.
- 7:13I'm Jill.
- 7:14So where are you from?
- 7:15I'm from St. Louis.
- 7:16Oh, OK.
- 7:17You moved here?
- 7:18Yeah.
- 7:19KELLY: I don't know why Abby constantly insists on bringing
- 7:20Oh, OK.
- 7:22new people in.
- 7:23It's bad enough when she brings people
- 7:24in from the studio that we know and have danced with.
- 7:28Now she's bringing a stranger in.
- 7:29I just think it's crazy.
- 7:30MELISSA: So what did you think of our dance concert?
- 7:35I mean, they're really, really talented,
- 7:37I mean, as far as technique goes.
- 7:38But as far as entertaining, I don't think
- 7:41it was really entertaining.
- 7:42It didn't have a lot of personal-- you know, like--
- 7:44Really? [GASPS]
- 7:45The whole show?
- 7:46CHLOE: So the new mom comes upstairs,
- 7:48and she sits herself down, and she seems a little opinionated,
- 7:53to say the least.
- 7:54MELISSA: I think our kids are fabulous on stage.
- 7:56I mean, I have to-- KAYA: I think they are too.
- 7:57I wouldn't have brought her here if I didn't
- 7:59think you had fabulous dancers.
- 8:00I just think that they could use a little more personality,
- 8:03a little more diva-tude, and she has that.
- 8:05Diva-tude is just when you're born with it,
- 8:07when you just know you have it.
- 8:09No amount of technique or any type of training
- 8:11gives you that.
- 8:12I didn't think any of Abby's dancers had that.
- 8:14Diva-tude? MELISSA: We're not divas.
- 8:15KAYA: Yeah, that's what I call it.
- 8:15[LAUGHS]
- 8:16MELISSA: What does your jacket say?
- 8:19Black Patsy.
- 8:20I love that name.
- 8:21It's really pretty.
- 8:23ABBY: You guys keep working.
- 8:24Get that down pat.
- 8:26Come on over here to the bar.
- 8:28Let me see fifth position, tendu.
- 8:31And let me see a ronde de jambe.
- 8:34I asked Nicaya to execute a few ballet steps.
- 8:39I want to see if she has a foundation, if she knows
- 8:43her terminology.
- 8:45And can you spell ronde de jambe?
- 8:48You have to know the names of everything.
- 8:51We're really into terminology here.
- 8:52MADDIE: It's good that girls want to tryout for our team.
- 8:55But I don't really want any a new member
- 8:57right now because I'm perfectly fine with all my friends.
- 9:01Do you do any acrobatics or gymnastics?
- 9:04ABBY: None?
- 9:05Now I'm beginning to wonder about this girl.
- 9:07Is she for real?
- 9:09Is she an advanced student or is she just a recreation student
- 9:12that goes once a week whose mother's trying to get her
- 9:15onto a competition team?
- 9:17Second, second.
- 9:19She's gonna audition or--?
- 9:21KAYA: I think she should just choreographing a routine
- 9:24and just put her in it.
- 9:25Because her testing to see how flexible she is is not really--
- 9:28There's a lot of other kids who want to dance on this team,
- 9:31so I don't know why she would just get to walk in and be
- 9:33on it, when there's other kids who have had
- 9:34to go through auditions.
- 9:35Other kids don't have a resume like hers.
- 9:37So I'm gonna call your mom down, okie doke?
- 9:40Oh, Abby wants me to come down.
- 9:41KELLY: Ha.
- 9:42Good luck!
- 9:43CHRISTI: Good luck.
- 9:44I ain't scared of her.
- 9:47JILL: God, she's a loose can-- you never know what's coming
- 9:50out of her mouth-- CHLOE: That's true.
- 9:51JILL: --no matter how nice, how mean.
- 9:53Are you serious?
- 9:54Your recital was boring and all these kids
- 9:56need help to perform.
- 9:58You're not gonna work on this team, girlfriend.
- 10:00She knows 0 terminology.
- 10:02My kids are the whole package, not just
- 10:05little bits and pieces.
- 10:07When my kids leave here, they have a career, a livelihood,
- 10:10forever.
- 10:12KAYA: I don't think that these spelling tests and all
- 10:13this other stupid dance terminology is relevant.
- 10:16What I personally want Abby to do
- 10:17is stick my daughter's damn dance CD in there
- 10:19and watch her dance.
- 10:20You're the professional.
- 10:21You've been doing this all this time.
- 10:23You create stars, so why would I question what you're saying?
- 10:26Yay!
- 10:27Hallelujah!
- 10:28We have a winner. Yay!
- 10:29KAYA: Don't just disguise her all the way.
- 10:30ABBY: Can you come back tomorrow?
- 10:31NICAYA: Yes.
- 10:32ABBY: So come back, bring her in tomorrow.
- 10:34I'll have more time. JILL: I just heard her say.
- 10:35CHRISTI: I heard her say come back tomorrow.
- 10:37But why?
- 10:38You don't get to just come and be on the team.
- 10:40Our girls are two weeks from nationals.
- 10:42Why Abby would ever consider adding a new girl to the team
- 10:45right now is beyond me.
- 10:47That does not make any kind of sense whatsoever.
- 10:50Just when I thought it couldn't get any crazier,
- 10:53it got crazier.
- 10:57So she wanted to know if you could spell ronde de jambe,
- 11:00if you could spell dance terminology.
- 11:03What the hell does that have to do with dancing?
- 11:06She goes, do ronde de jambe.
- 11:08Now, can you spell ronde de jambe?
- 11:09I go, no.
- 11:11That is [BLEEP],, and she knows that.
- 11:13She doesn't want to give you a chance
- 11:14because I meant what I said.
- 11:15Her dancers have no personality.
- 11:18What do you have on now?
- 11:19A title jacket-- so what difference does it make?
- 11:21We're gonna play her game.
- 11:22We're gonna go home tonight, we're
- 11:23gonna learn this terminology.
- 11:24She's gonna learn how to spell all these stupid ass dance
- 11:27terms, and we're gonna come back tomorrow and play the game Abby
- 11:29wants to play.
- 11:31[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 11:41(SINGING) If you take my hand, you're all I'll ever need.
- 11:46We can dance out in the sand, watch a sunset by the sea.
- 11:51"Summer Love Song" is about the summer and parties and just
- 11:54being out of school.
- 11:56And I wrote it because I love all those things.
- 11:58So I'm going to put a recording of me singing on the internet
- 12:02and see how many, like, hits and views it gets.
- 12:05(SINGING) Spin that record round and round,
- 12:07because I can't get enough of that summer sound.
- 12:10PAIGE: I'm gonna be Brooke's backup singer.
- 12:12(SINGING) Turn the bass way up and boom it, yeah.
- 12:16Look, you already got a hit--
- 12:18Oh, my god.
- 12:20--in, like, the two seconds you just posted it.
- 12:22Yeah.
- 12:23[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 12:29Hi, Nia.
- 12:31Hi.
- 12:32How you doing?
- 12:33Hello.
- 12:34Hi, girls.
- 12:35Hello.
- 12:37PAIGE: Mom, wonder if that girl's coming today.
- 12:39JILL: If I had to make a guess, I'd say, uh-huh.
- 12:43I can't believe she had that on her shirt.
- 12:46JILL: It said Black Patsy.
- 12:47It said Black Patsy, AKA--
- 12:48I'm White Christie.
- 12:49KELLY: You're Black Holly.
- 12:51HOLLY: Can you imagine?
- 12:52Like, what is she talking about?
- 12:54I'm like, Patsy. CHRISTI: Black Patsy.
- 12:55I'm SWF.
- 12:56GIRLS: Hi.
- 12:58HOLLY: Hi.
- 12:59How are you?
- 13:00JILL: Come in.
- 13:00KELLY: Hi.
- 13:03KAYA: Excuse me.
- 13:04Mm-hmm.
- 13:07HOLLY: When Kaya arrives, there's
- 13:09a tension that's evident from the moment she steps foot
- 13:11into the room.
- 13:14What do you want the girls to call you?
- 13:17JILL: Oh, they call you Nini?
- 13:19KAYA: Mm-hmm.
- 13:21[LAUGHTER]
- 13:22GIRLS: (SINGING) Laquifa.
- 13:24Ooh.
- 13:25HOLLY: We don't know Kaya, and we're trying to figure out
- 13:29who Kaya is.
- 13:30Come on, girls. Let's go.
- 13:31Let's go. Let's go.
- 13:32[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 13:385, 6, 7, go.
- 13:415, 6, 7, 8.
- 13:45God, I hope Paige gets cleared today.
- 13:48Because I think it's going to take her a week
- 13:50or so to get used to just walking on her foot.
- 13:54I think Paige is nervous.
- 13:55I think she's afraid that the doctor's gonna tell her,
- 13:58you know, we need to wait another two weeks just to be
- 14:00sure.
- 14:01Go, 2, 3, 4, drop.
- 14:05So where are you going for nationals?
- 14:06- We don't know. - We don't.
- 14:08Well, she hasn't told us.
- 14:09How do you have a life outside of dance
- 14:10if you have no idea what you're doing in four days?
- 14:12CHRISTI: We don't. This is our li--
- 14:13- This is our life. - We devote it to these kids.
- 14:14You devote your time here. This is your life.
- 14:16Do any of you work?
- 14:17- No. - I used to work.
- 14:19I owned a business.
- 14:20I had to sell it.
- 14:21What do you have nannies at home
- 14:22CHRISTI: No.
- 14:23Just really good husbands who pick up--
- 14:25Exactly. JILL: So you're a single mom?
- 14:27Yes, I am.
- 14:27With four kids?
- 14:29- Yep. - Wow.
- 14:30It's a team effort.
- 14:31Yeah, well, our relationship ended because of dance.
- 14:33Oh, really?
- 14:34Oh.
- 14:35Lovely.
- 14:36Your husband didn't support dance?
- 14:37I didn't have a husband.
- 14:39I had a wife.
- 14:43Hmm.
- 14:45It's like you could hear a pin drop in the room,
- 14:47like they had never, ever heard of anybody being
- 14:49a lesbian before.
- 14:51So what would you like us to call you?
- 14:53CHRISTI: Because we've been calling you Patsy.
- 14:54KAYA: Really? - Yes.
- 14:55Well, you call yourself Patsy.
- 14:57The Black Pasty. CHRISTI: I know.
- 14:59We were calling you Black Patsy.
- 15:00I want to know what that means.
- 15:02You know who Patsy Ramsey is?
- 15:03Yeah.
- 15:04KAYA: The crazy stage mom.
- 15:05KELLY: That's you.
- 15:06KAYA: All dance moms have an inner Patsy.
- 15:08KELLY: Are you really proud of that,
- 15:09that that's your nickname.
- 15:11Because like, I certainly wouldn't want
- 15:13to be compared to Patsy Ramsey.
- 15:14[LAUGHTER]
- 15:175, 6, 7, 8, 1.
- 15:21KELLY: Abby? ABBY: Yes.
- 15:22Excuse me. Can I get Paige?
- 15:24It's time for her doctor's appointment.
- 15:25Go ahead, go.
- 15:26Good luck.
- 15:28See ya.
- 15:29[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 15:33[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 15:33(SINGING) It was gonna be--
- 15:35ABBY: Stretch your feet.
- 15:36Feet.
- 15:38Sloppy feet.
- 15:40The arms in second.
- 15:42Chloe's solo, it's called "Glitz and glamour."
- 15:45I needed something to represent new Hollywood--
- 15:48the piercings, the tattoos, somebody
- 15:51that would stab your eyeballs out and step right over you
- 15:55to get ahead.
- 15:56That's Chloe.
- 15:57[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 15:57This is the road to nationals.
- 15:59We're going to iHollywood.
- 16:01All those kids on the West Coast are gonna be there.
- 16:03You have the target on your back.
- 16:05[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 16:12I don't want to hear your feet hit the ground.
- 16:16Play.
- 16:19What did the doctor said?
- 16:20KELLY: She got cleared. She's allowed to dance.
- 16:22[CLAPPING]
- 16:23Yay!
- 16:25KELLY: But she's not allowed to do tricks for two more weeks.
- 16:28OK.
- 16:29KELLY: He said to do a very limited, you know,
- 16:31not to overwork it.
- 16:33OK.
- 16:34KELLY: So--
- 16:35ABBY: Paige can be in the number.
- 16:36But is she gonna be full out?
- 16:39I don't know.
- 16:40And I want to win.
- 16:45Hi.
- 16:46KAYA: Hello.
- 16:47I want to get you to fill this paperwork out.
- 16:49OK.
- 16:50OK?
- 16:51So I was thinking, well, maybe she could jump in and take
- 16:54Paige's spot.
- 16:55But now Paige came back from the doctor today and said,
- 16:58hey, I'm allowed to dance.
- 17:00[EXHALES] But she's already been there.
- 17:03She's learned all of the routine.
- 17:04I mean, you're taking a chance on Paige
- 17:06because she just got over an injury, so it's kind of iffy.
- 17:09No, I'm taking a chance on Paige
- 17:10because she's been here since she's three years of.
- 17:12KAYA: Paige has a boot on her foot.
- 17:14Even once the boot comes off her foot,
- 17:15she won't be able to dance up to par with the rest of the team
- 17:18because she's not really picking up the choreography.
- 17:20And Kaya already knows it.
- 17:21There's no reason that she shouldn't replace her just
- 17:23for this number. Give her a chance.
- 17:24Let her compete with you guys. Let her on the team.
- 17:26ABBY: Usually, when you walk into the studio,
- 17:27you have to be here for a year before you even audition.
- 17:30But what would it take for me to show you how bad I want her
- 17:34on this team and how bad she wants to be on the team?
- 17:36If I don't put her in this number and she's just a swing,
- 17:40are you still gonna go?
- 17:41Yes, we will.
- 17:44ABBY: Kaya is standing right in front of me,
- 17:46telling me she'll do whatever it takes to get her
- 17:48in on this competition team.
- 17:50Well, hey, we're going to California.
- 17:52I might just invite the kid to go.
- 17:54All right, you better know it. You might get put on the spot.
- 17:56OK. ABBY: All right, goodnight.
- 17:58KAYA: OK, thank you. NICAYA: Thank you.
- 18:06CHRISTI: Patsy invites all the moms to lunch,
- 18:08because, well, she wants to get to know us better.
- 18:10And frankly, I'd like to get to know her better.
- 18:12You had a boyfriend and you moved out?
- 18:14Oh, a girlfriend. - Yes.
- 18:16Oh.
- 18:17What made you go from a man to a woman?
- 18:18KAYA: I think my gaydar kind of picked up
- 18:20a little vibe off of Melissa.
- 18:22She was a little too friendly to me.
- 18:23Sorry, I'm just curious.
- 18:24KAYA: OK, so what do you guys think about me so far?
- 18:27KELLY: Well, with your AKA of being Black Patsy,
- 18:31like, you're crazy.
- 18:33Why would that make me crazy?
- 18:34KELLY: Crazy dance mom.
- 18:35All of you are crazy dance moms.
- 18:37I'm not that crazy.
- 18:38So since you're kind of in my position
- 18:40trying to get your child on the team, what does that take?
- 18:43Are you crazy?
- 18:44You think I'm gonna tell you how to get your daughter
- 18:46on the team when I can't even get
- 18:48my own daughter on the team?
- 18:49You just waltzed in and threw your kid in the room.
- 18:51And you don't just get to walk in and be on a competition
- 18:54MELISSA: You should see our contract.
- 18:54team.
- 18:55So far I have just walked in.
- 18:56CHRISTI: We have invested our time, our lives, our energy,
- 18:59and our efforts in this.
- 19:00It just is very unnerving that you think like, oh,
- 19:03my daughter's just as good.
- 19:05Are you coming to LA with us?
- 19:06I don't know if I'm going to LA or not.
- 19:08HOLLY: It's a bizarre situation.
- 19:10This is a bizarre lunch.
- 19:12We're not in a very good place.
- 19:13Who are you?
- 19:15All we know is that it says Black Patsy on a jacket
- 19:17and you're Nicaya's mom.
- 19:18KAYA: The moms can say whatever the hell
- 19:20they want to say about me. I'm not here for them.
- 19:22I'm here for my daughter.
- 19:23I don't have any feelings towards them.
- 19:24I don't give a damn what they feel about me.
- 19:26It's all about Nicaya.
- 19:27[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 19:29ABBY: Solos this week are vital.
- 19:31I want to see who is strong enough mentally and physically
- 19:35to win at nationals.
- 19:38Stomach, use your stomach.
- 19:39Up.
- 19:41That knee was so bent.
- 19:43Arabesque, straighten that knee, Nia.
- 19:45Come on.
- 19:46Nia's solo this week, it's a '20s scat,
- 19:48inspired by Josephine Baker.
- 19:51There's no vocals, so her timing must be impeccable.
- 19:56This is a big challenge for Nia.
- 19:58HOLLY: Josephine Baker could shake.
- 19:59She was like the Beyoncé of the time.
- 20:01Oh, my god, and Nia's the new Beyoncé upcoming.
- 20:04HOLLY: Oh, yeah.
- 20:05[LAUGHS]
- 20:06CHRISTI: That's Nia fierce.
- 20:07Left and around.
- 20:08CHRISTI: Oh, my eyes, my eyes!
- 20:11You know, there's something when
- 20:13you see Abby get up and gyrate.
- 20:15It's-- it's not a pretty sight.
- 20:19First she wanted Holly to paddle her.
- 20:20Now she's shaking it in our faces.
- 20:25[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 20:291 and a 2, 3 and a 4, 5 and a 6, 7, 8.
- 20:33Kenzie will be doing a solo this week.
- 20:35It's entitled "Hollywood."
- 20:37She really needs to stay on the music.
- 20:40That's what we're working on this week.
- 20:42You tell me what this dance is about.
- 20:49Yes, all right.
- 20:50I love my solo this week because my solo's
- 20:52called "Hollywood," and I love Hollywood.
- 20:58Spread apart.
- 20:59Let's go.
- 21:00This piece is very important to the Abby Lee Dance Company.
- 21:03I'm excited about it.
- 21:04I love it.
- 21:05I think this could be a winner.
- 21:07You move out of there for right now.
- 21:10All right, let's go.
- 21:11Get on the line.
- 21:18Nicaya's been there every minute.
- 21:20So I want to see what the group looks like.
- 21:23Nicaya, stand in Paige's spot.
- 21:25That's it.
- 21:30All right, let me see you out, you in.
- 21:33Go.
- 21:34KELLY: I'm watching rehearsal, and it's like Abby's playing
- 21:37game.
- 21:38Paige will do the dance one time,
- 21:40and then Nicaya does it the next time.
- 21:42Please tell me who is on the team here.
- 21:48That's her turning foot that's hurt.
- 21:49Oh.
- 21:55All right, you're both boring, boring, boring.
- 21:58PAIGE: My foot's really bothering me in rehearsal,
- 22:01so I just hope Miss Abby let's me take it easy.
- 22:03KELLY: Hey, peanut.
- 22:04How's your foot?
- 22:05HOLLY: Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 22:07MELISSA: Is your foot OK?
- 22:08What's the matter?
- 22:12You need to say, Miss Abby, it hurts when I step on it
- 22:15and fan kick.
- 22:16Can I just mark that until I'm on stage?
- 22:18She will say yes.
- 22:20This is your first day of not having a cast on your foot.
- 22:24Paige has waited for four weeks to get this boot off
- 22:28And Abby keeps pulling her to put someone else in the dance.
- 22:28of her foot.
- 22:31ABBY: All right, ladies, I want you all to know that Paige just
- 22:34came to me and said, can she mark the pancake because it
- 22:37hurts her supporting foot.
- 22:39I'm just letting Paige sit out during rehearsal
- 22:41because her foot still bothering her.
- 22:43I'm not replacing her.
- 22:44But if that foot still hurts come competition time, I will.
- 22:48The show must go on.
- 22:49And it's gonna happen, no matter who's out there dancing.
- 22:53If she's injured, she shouldn't be on stage.
- 22:55She should save it till she's ready.
- 22:57KELLY: One part of me wants to go down there
- 22:59and just knock somebody out.
- 23:01So I excused myself.
- 23:02I'm done!
- 23:03[DOOR SLAMS] [BLEEP] my kid!
- 23:08ABBY: Once again, Kelly overreacts and throws
- 23:10a hissy fit.
- 23:11Well, you know what, Kelly?
- 23:13The reason I keep bringing new moms and new kids
- 23:15into the studio is because of behavior like yours.
- 23:17I'm sick of it.
- 23:18Kaya, if you weren't here and Nicaya wasn't here,
- 23:20this whole issue would not exist.
- 23:22CHRISTI: I think where it started--
- 23:23Of course it does.
- 23:24--was that Abby was choosing between Nicaya and Paige.
- 23:26Her mom was sitting there saying
- 23:27she don't think she's ready to go out there and dance yet.
- 23:30Paige is still hurt.
- 23:31She was cleared by the doctor.
- 23:32Are you a medical doctor?
- 23:33KAYA: What the hell is the problem if one more kid is
- 23:36You got the wrong mama this time 'cause I don't back down
- 23:36added.
- 23:38to nobody. - Oh.
- 23:39Well, maybe you found the wrong mama.
- 23:42I ain't found the wrong [BLEEP]..
- 23:44None of-- y'all don't move me.
- 23:45But the point is, is that Paige is either gonna dance
- 23:48or Nini's gonna dance.
- 23:49She said she needed to rest it.
- 23:50KAYA: OK, I'm not gonna give y'all the-- if Abby says
- 23:52she's gonna do this number, we're gonna be in LA doing
- 23:54And I don't have to answer to any of y'all.
- 23:55the number.
- 23:56I don't care.
- 23:58ABBY: Kelly storming out of the studio
- 23:59and the moms upstairs screaming at each other,
- 24:02I decided something needed to be done.
- 24:04So I called them all downstairs to straighten this mess out.
- 24:07I'm sorry.
- 24:07I think it's ridiculous.
- 24:08JILL: No, I think it's ridiculous too.
- 24:10ABBY: I have a kid that I don't even
- 24:12know that's from another studio that moved here.
- 24:15I have a kid that's hurt.
- 24:16I'm liable ladies.
- 24:17This is a business.
- 24:18I want Nicaya to take out Brokeback Brooke and Peg Leg
- 24:21Paige just to shut Kelly up because she talks so much
- 24:24I just want to prove to her that her daughters are not all
- 24:25[BLEEP].
- 24:27that she thinks they are.
- 24:28She's upset because she said nobody's dancing,
- 24:30the routine looks stupid, and her daughter
- 24:32is always in the back burner. - No.
- 24:34But I don't like them blaming and saying because Nicaya
- 24:37Between Paige and a student that isn't even your student--
- 24:37walked in--
- 24:39that's what her problem was. - She's not choosing anything.
- 24:42But it's up to Abby's discretion, not yours.
- 24:44All y'all are full of crap, so I don't care.
- 24:46JILL: I'm not doing this.
- 24:48You can have one another.
- 24:49KAYA: 'Cause you're [BLEEP].
- 24:50I'm not doing this.
- 24:51KAYA: You are.
- 24:52We don't know what's going on with the number.
- 24:54This is chaos.
- 24:55So considering the behavior of these mothers,
- 24:59you told me that you were ready to go to California,
- 25:01I think you should go.
- 25:03I am not making you a promise that your daughter is in this.
- 25:06So don't get there and start acting like that.
- 25:09All right.
- 25:10Take care.
- 25:11I asked Nicaya's mother to go to California with us.
- 25:13She's all excited.
- 25:16But if she opens her mouth again, look out.
- 25:24[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 25:29We've just arrived at iHollywood,
- 25:30and I am so excited to be here.
- 25:32Coming from 3,000 miles across the country
- 25:35to compete against all these amazing studios in California
- 25:40is really an opportunity of a lifetime.
- 25:46ABBY: You know what?
- 25:47I have been so busy, I haven't even given it a second thought.
- 25:51Before I could even make a decision about Nicaya dancing
- 25:54in this group number, I need to speak with Kelly.
- 25:56She stormed out of the studio yesterday.
- 25:59I don't know what's going on with her.
- 26:00And I want to hear it from the horse's mouth.
- 26:02Tell me what really was going on yesterday.
- 26:05Paige is telling me that, my foot still hurts and da-da-da,
- 26:07da-da-da.
- 26:08Yeah.
- 26:09But I didn't come all the way to California
- 26:11to go out there and have her marking a number on stage.
- 26:13She's not gonna mark it on stage.
- 26:15That's why she want-- - She has to do it full out.
- 26:16Yeah, that's why she wanted to mark it in practice,
- 26:18so it wasn't hurting on stage.
- 26:20ABBY: That I understand.
- 26:21I just don't understand what's going on.
- 26:23Why is there always these fireworks?
- 26:25I have no idea.
- 26:27I didn't have a firework yesterday.
- 26:29KAYA: That is a lie.
- 26:30That's a lie.
- 26:31You were upstairs crying and having a fit
- 26:33and cussing and going off.
- 26:34Because you kept saying, I don't want to go all the way to LA
- 26:36and her not be in the number. KELLY: Excuse me.
- 26:37Was I upstairs crying, cussing, doing anything yesterday?
- 26:40KAYA: That's a lie. Please don't--
- 26:41ABBY: I know something fishy is up with Kelly.
- 26:42I know that she left rehearsal because she was upset thinking
- 26:47that Nicaya was going to replace Paige.
- 26:49Take your new outsider and put her in and give her a chance.
- 26:52Don't give anybody on your team a chance.
- 26:54Chloe, we got to run this number and go.
- 26:56All of this is taking time away from your solo.
- 27:00All of this madness is going on in the dressing room,
- 27:02and I'm trying to block it out.
- 27:03Because frankly, at this point, I don't care.
- 27:05My focus really needs to be Chloe and her solo.
- 27:08ABBY: You're gonna go and you're gonna look down
- 27:09at the audience, and you're gonna look where the judges are
- 27:11You're gonna figure it out because I've
- 27:12sitting.
- 27:13trained you to do that.
- 27:14All right, It's your turn. You're up.
- 27:15Over here, let's run through it once.
- 27:17Let's talk about this.
- 27:19"'20s Scat" is really the most mature piece Nia has ever
- 27:22performed before.
- 27:23And I'm nervous.
- 27:24Can she pull it off?
- 27:25ABBY: Remember, this is the road to nationals.
- 27:28We are on our way.
- 27:30Let's go.
- 27:31[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 27:36CHLOE: I'm just a little bit nervous because the LA girls
- 27:39are really fierce here.
- 27:41But I won't let that stand in my way.
- 27:43ANNOUNCER: Please welcome to the iHollywood Dance stage,
- 27:46from Abby Lee Dance Company, this is this Chloe performing
- 27:49to "Glitz and glamour."
- 27:52[MUSIC - "GLITZ AND GLAMOUR"]
- 28:01(SINGING) All I need is friends, but I don't really have them.
- 28:07OK, I mean, I really have them.
- 28:10I just don't have them where I am.
- 28:13Oh.
- 28:14(SINGING) It's because of my job.
- 28:16I travel around a lot.
- 28:19And I don't exactly--
- 28:20[CHEERING]
- 28:22ABBY: The very first set of turns she bobbles.
- 28:25And then suddenly she nailed like five turns.
- 28:28By the end of this number, they're never
- 28:30gonna remember the beginning.
- 28:31(SINGING) I got no, I ain't got no, I
- 28:35ain't got no glitz and glamour.
- 28:37I ain't got no, I ain't got no glitz and glamour.
- 28:41[APPLAUSE]
- 28:43CHRISTI: I think that there were parts of Chloe's dance
- 28:45that were brilliant.
- 28:47And there were parts that need work.
- 28:49If she would have had another week,
- 28:50I think that dance would have been amazing.
- 28:54NIA: I'm very nervous about doing my solo.
- 28:58It's really difficult dancing to scatting because there's
- 29:00no beat.
- 29:02I hope I can pull it off.
- 29:03ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, from Abby Lee Dance Company,
- 29:06this is the Nia, performing to "'20s Scat."
- 29:09[APPLAUSE]
- 29:13[WOMAN SCATTING]
- 29:33Nia is right on the money.
- 29:36She's fabulous.
- 29:37It's simple.
- 29:38It's clean.
- 29:39She does everything she's supposed to do.
- 29:42And at the end, she makes it her own.
- 29:45[LAUGHTER]
- 29:52[APPLAUSE]
- 29:58[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 29:59Nia is a mini goddess on stage.
- 30:00She has has the audience eating out of the palm of her hands.
- 30:04And I think Josephine Baker would have been very proud.
- 30:08[CHEERING]
- 30:09KELLY: Good job.
- 30:10Good job.
- 30:11It was great.
- 30:11It was nice.
- 30:13Hey, hey, hey, good job.
- 30:17Good job.
- 30:19I loved it.
- 30:20Chloe, I think some things are really, really good.
- 30:22And I think some things were not so good.
- 30:26That's not the way to go to nationals.
- 30:28Mackenzie, are you ready?
- 30:30Cover that stage.
- 30:31Make sure you get out there far enough.
- 30:33All right, let's go, let's go, let's go.
- 30:35[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 30:39MACKENZIE: My solo is gonna go well, because my song's called
- 30:42"Hollywood" and we're in Hollywood.
- 30:44ANNOUNCER: Please welcome, from Abby Lee Dance Company,
- 30:47this is Mackenzie.
- 30:48And she'll be performing to "Hollywood."
- 30:53[MUSIC - "HOLLYWOOD"]
- 31:03(SINGING) Spinning round in circles, round in circles
- 31:06in my mind, I just close my eyes and I
- 31:09can see that perfect sign.
- 31:10Countdown to adventure, new direction,
- 31:13take me to my favorite place.
- 31:16MELISSA: So I'm watching Mackenzie do her solo.
- 31:19She comes out with so much energy,
- 31:21and I think she's doing great.
- 31:23(SINGING) The sun shines hot and life's
- 31:26over the top in Hollywood.
- 31:31Any time we want fun, it's a town
- 31:33that's ready to play, oh, night or day.
- 31:36[CHEERING]
- 31:38Yay, Mackenzie!
- 31:41ABBY: She did a great job.
- 31:42Her legs were straight.
- 31:43Her feet were pointed.
- 31:44She remembered the choreography.
- 31:46What more can I ask for?
- 31:48Great job!
- 31:49[LAUGHS]
- 31:51ABBY: Nice job.
- 31:52Kenzie, you listened to your music.
- 31:53And every time you got a little bit ahead,
- 31:56you stopped and you slowed down.
- 31:57And the hand walks were good.
- 31:59Yeah.
- 32:00So you guys need to get the lipstick off, tone down
- 32:02the blush, and get your customes on.
- 32:04Let's go.
- 32:05[CHATTER]
- 32:07Hey, guys, I need everybody dressed.
- 32:10I haven't even said who's in the dance
- 32:11and who isn't in the dance.
- 32:13I haven't even spaced everybody yet.
- 32:15KAYA: The only reason I think that Abby won't just
- 32:17replace Paige and put Nicaya in this number
- 32:19is because Abby's just scared that Nicaya's
- 32:21gonna go right in there and blow her dancers out of the water.
- 32:23She claims it takes years and years and years
- 32:26to get on the level with her elite dancers.
- 32:28Well, Nicaya got it in 24 hours.
- 32:30Have you asked her, like, recently what she's thinking?
- 32:34Ask her.
- 32:35Just say, I don't want my feelings
- 32:37to be hurt at the very last minute.
- 32:38If you don't think I should be in this number right now,
- 32:41then you can just tell me that.
- 32:42NICAYA: If I would have traveled all the way to LA
- 32:45and she didn't let me dance, that really
- 32:47would make me feel really sad.
- 32:49This has been an honor getting this far.
- 32:53But I want to really know if I'm going
- 32:55to be doing this routine or--
- 32:56I'm deciding right now.
- 32:59Right this second, I'm looking at it.
- 33:00Let's go.
- 33:01Our group number is coming up next.
- 33:04Who's gonna do it, Nicaya or Paige?
- 33:07I have yet to make the decision.
- 33:09So I'm gonna run the number one more time.
- 33:11Whoever is not keeping up is out.
- 33:14That's my final decision.
- 33:15I came here to win.
- 33:17Make the head move.
- 33:24KELLY: Here we are in the dressing room.
- 33:26Everybody is dressed and ready to go on stage
- 33:28and she's still playing mind games.
- 33:30Abby, just tell us what you're doing.
- 33:32Is Paige dancing in the dance or not?
- 33:35Because in five minutes they're gonna be on stage.
- 33:37And you have my daughter so confused,
- 33:40she doesn't know whether she's coming or going.
- 33:42ABBY: Wait, what is she doing with those pigeon-toed feet?
- 33:44I don't think you're there.
- 33:45They've done the number over and over in the dressing room,
- 33:48and nobody's impressing me very much.
- 33:49Do I take a chance on Paige, who is still recovering,
- 33:53or do I take a chance on the new girl, Nicaya,
- 33:56who's yet to prove herself?
- 33:57Who's going to dance in the group number?
- 33:59It's a tough choice.
- 34:06[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 34:07Make the head move.
- 34:09KELLY: If I traveled 3,000 miles with Paige and Abby
- 34:13doesn't let her dance, I am gonna flip.
- 34:15[INTENSE MUSIC PLAYING]
- 34:22We're all doing the dance. Let's go.
- 34:24You didn't come 3,000 miles to sit on your butt.
- 34:26Everybody out there.
- 34:27Let's go.
- 34:28CHRISTI: If letting Nicaya be in the dance
- 34:30is what allowed Paige to be in the dance,
- 34:32then so be it, because she is a member of this team
- 34:34and deserved it.
- 34:35Listen to me.
- 34:44Yes?
- 34:45I'm really worried about Paige.
- 34:47Can you physically do it?
- 34:48I'm not so sure.
- 34:50I need to see it full out, Paige.
- 34:52When we walk out of here, game faces.
- 34:53Let's go.
- 34:54[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 35:00I'm really nervous to do the group dance.
- 35:03I really want to show Miss Abby that I deserve
- 35:06to be on this team.
- 35:07ANNOUNCER: Please welcome Abby Lee Dance Company, performing
- 35:09to "I See the Kite Flying."
- 35:11[APPLAUSE]
- 35:14The last time we did a haunting, controversial spoken
- 35:16word number was "Where Have All the Children Gone?"
- 35:19And it won hands down.
- 35:21That's what it needs to be again today.
- 35:23We're getting ready for nationals.
- 35:25It's overall first place or nothing.
- 35:29[MUSIC - "I SEE THE KITE FLYING"]
- 35:30(SPOKEN WORD) The sky was so blue
- 35:34that it wasn't blue any longer.
- 35:37Every time that sky comes back into my mind, the colors shift.
- 35:43The blue gets bluer and the horizon widens.
- 35:47When the words starts speaking for the group dance,
- 35:49because there is no music, the girls
- 35:51start crawling around on the floor and, like,
- 35:53punching themselves in the face.
- 35:55And I thought, well, OK, at least you're
- 35:56being the best that you can be.
- 35:58(SPOKEN WORD) But my feet were hard on the ground.
- 36:03At that moment, color splashed into my black and white life.
- 36:07Standing, the wind in my face, I lost myself.
- 36:11And just for a minute, it only had to do with me.
- 36:16As my kite rose higher into that impossible blue,
- 36:21I thought about how we never flew kites together.
- 36:27[CHEERING]
- 36:32ABBY: The group number went well.
- 36:33Paige and Nicaya both did an OK job.
- 36:36Who was better?
- 36:37I don't know.
- 36:38Neither one of them really pulled my eye.
- 36:40But today, that was a good thing.
- 36:44[MUSIC PLAYING]
- 36:45[APPLAUSE]

- 36:50ceremony.

- 37:03MELISSA: Mackenzie came in third.
- 37:05I was actually surprised.
- 37:06But a little girl did lyrical.

- 37:11ANNOUNCER: Next up is your high-scoring Junior Tony Solo.
- 37:15We're gonna start in 10th place, from Abby Lee Dance Company,
- 37:18number 37, "'20s Scat."
- 37:20[APPLAUSE]
- 37:24HOLLY: The idea of Nia placing in the top 10 with this number,
- 37:27she might as well have been doing Shakespeare on stage.
- 37:29That's the caliber of the maturity of this piece.
- 37:33Moving along to fifth place, in the genre of contemporary,
- 37:36from Abby Lee Dance Company, act number 22, "Glitz and glamour."
- 37:41[APPLAUSE]
- 37:45ABBY: I'm disappointed-- Nia 10th and Chloe fifth?
- 37:50They needed to be better.
- 37:51They needed to be stronger.
- 37:5310th and 5th are not going to cut it at nationals.
- 37:56ANNOUNCER: Moving along to our top Junior Oscar Small Groups--

- 38:59Congratulations, Nia, for making the top 10.
- 39:02Thank you.
- 39:03Nicaya, you and your mom are being pretty quiet.
- 39:06You had a lot to say on the microphone.
- 39:10KAYA: What do you mean?
- 39:13ABBY: This goes to the rest of you.
- 39:14You're gonna let the new girl walk in and get the microphone
- 39:18and get to speak?
- 39:19Don't let the new kid come in and push you out of the way.
- 39:22You did the same thing with Paige today.
- 39:23You're threatening to replace her with somebody else.
- 39:26- Why y'all keep saying replace? - Why does she need to do that?
- 39:28We're not coming to replace nobody.
- 39:29She just wants to be part of the team.
- 39:30I'm not talking to you. Thank you.
- 39:31But when you refer to me or my child,
- 39:33then it puts me in the conversation.
- 39:34KELLY: I'm not talking to you. What did you say, Abby.
- 39:35KAYA: You can keep looking over here
- 39:36I'm sorry.
- 39:37and you keep talking to me. - Somebody was talking.
- 39:37Kaya was talking.
- 39:38I don't want to even use your name.
- 39:40That's why I keep saying her.
- 39:41I got a name I want to call you, too, not your own,
- 39:43but I'm trying to be respectful.
- 39:45You just jumped down on me like I'm trying to invade this team
- 39:49and do something.
- 39:50And it's no different from what all of you are doing.
- 39:51As a sister, I would think you would respect that,
- 39:54because there ain't a lot of chances for Black women
- 39:56out here nowadays.
- 39:57I would think that you would have my back.
- 39:58Do not-- do not take my ethnicity and make me a poster
- 40:02child for whatever.
- 40:03I choose to speak when I, Holly Hatcher-Frazier, Dr. Holly
- 40:07to everyone in this room, has something to say.
- 40:10KAYA: I don't know how you work with these parents.
- 40:12You called every one of us liars, haters.
- 40:15Hater-- yeah, you are some-- you're some haters.
- 40:17- That's a name. - I call it like I see it.
- 40:19It's the truth, y'all.
- 40:20Or liars, you're liars, especially you.
- 40:22Oh, yeah, OK.
- 40:23KAYA: You are phony as hell.
- 40:25So are you.
- 40:26I'm not--
- 40:27KAYA: From what I see, you're fake.
- 40:28CHRISTI: You know what? I'm not phony at all.
- 40:29Who I am is exactly who I come across as.
- 40:32Yeah, a bitch, that's what you are.
- 40:33And I know you own it.
- 40:36You don't know a thing, bitch.
- 40:39I be that bitch.
- 40:41CHRISTI: Don't let the door hit your [BLEEP] on the way
- 40:41I own it.
- 40:43You want to watch your mouth because I ain't
- 40:43out then.
- 40:45the rest of these dance mamas. I'm not a doctor like Holly do.
- 40:47I'm from the hood.
- 40:49Believe that.
- 40:50JILL: Abby, are you gonna let this happen?
- 40:52I can't-- KAYA: You're bitter!
- 40:53I don't use foul language.
- 40:54You're darn right we're bitter.
- 40:55I don't know how you work with these parents.
