New Collagen Study Shows Skin Aging Reversal! — Transcript

- 0:00Numerous human studies show that
- 0:01collagen supplements reduce skin
- 0:03wrinkles. And now we've got new papers
- 0:05showing improvements in tendon strength,
- 0:07muscle mass, and even reductions in fat
- 0:09mass. Let's go through the research,
- 0:11explain how collagen supplements are
- 0:13absorbed, and then what to look for when
- 0:15selecting a collagen brand. In the body,
- 0:17collagen looks like a rope. It holds
- 0:19everything together. But as we age, we
- 0:21progressively lose collagen. So an
- 0:2380-year-old person has lost 75% of the
- 0:26collagen in their skin. And the collagen
- 0:28that remains is frayed and damaged. Now,
- 0:31collagen is made from a group of cells
- 0:32called fibroblasts. So for example, in
- 0:35the skin, the fibroblasts are found in
- 0:37the deeper layers. So ideally, we want
- 0:39to signal to our fibroblasts to produce
- 0:41more collagen to not only help our skin,
- 0:43but also things like our blood vessels,
- 0:45cartilage, and tendons. And I must
- 0:47admit, when I first looked at the
- 0:49collagen research, I thought it was
- 0:50going to be nothing more than a social
- 0:52media fad. How on earth could the body
- 0:54absorb these long strands of collagen
- 0:56and then transport them around the body
- 0:58to help rebuild our own collagen? It
- 1:01made no sense. But to my surprise,
- 1:02there's a very good mechanism. Instead
- 1:04of taking a supplement that's got these
- 1:06long ropes of collagen, what we want to
- 1:08do is chop them up into smaller pieces
- 1:10called peptides. And this process is
- 1:12called hydrolysis. And we've got very
- 1:14good human evidence showing that these
- 1:16collagen peptide supplements, they are
- 1:18absorbed into the blood. And when we
- 1:19have a look at the effect that those
- 1:21peptides have on our skin,
- 1:22overwhelmingly, the studies show
- 1:24improvements in skin health, including
- 1:26things like moisture, elasticity, and
- 1:28wrinkle number. So let's take a deeper
- 1:31look at this 2020 meta-analysis where
- 1:33they combined all of the relevant
- 1:34studies to see what the research shows.
- 1:37They only included randomized
- 1:38placebo-controlled studies, resulting in
- 1:4110 publications that met the criteria.
- 1:43Each of those 10 separate studies showed
- 1:45robust improvements in skin health with
- 1:47no inconsistencies between the different
- 1:49studies seen, which is incredibly
- 1:51compelling and it likely represents a
- 1:53true improvement in skin health by
- 1:55taking collagen peptides. But it's not
- 1:57only skin health that collagen
- 1:58supplements seem to improve. We've got a
- 2:00randomized controlled study published
- 2:02this year, 2022, that combined collagen
- 2:05peptides with resistance training. And
- 2:07what they could see is that the collagen
- 2:09peptides resulted in a significant
- 2:10increase in the thickness of the
- 2:12Achilles tendon, as well as a
- 2:14significant improvement in muscle
- 2:16thickness. Plus, we've got an
- 2:17interesting meta-analysis suggesting
- 2:19that collagen peptides, they may reduce
- 2:21fat mass and decrease LDL cholesterol.
- 2:24But, more dedicated studies are needed
- 2:26to explore this area of research before
- 2:28any definitive conclusions can be made.
- 2:30So, we can see that collagen peptide
- 2:32supplements, they are improving skin
- 2:34health, they seem to thicken our
- 2:35tendons, as well as improve muscle mass.
- 2:37But, how exactly are these supplements
- 2:39signaling to our body to produce more of
- 2:42its own collagen? Well, there seems to
- 2:44be three leading theories. The first one
- 2:46is that the collagen peptides, they
- 2:48provide the body with building blocks,
- 2:50which leads into the second theory, that
- 2:51just providing the building blocks
- 2:53itself signals to the body to produce
- 2:55its own collagen. But, the third theory
- 2:57is very intriguing. Just by taking the
- 2:59collagen peptides into our gut, our
- 3:01immune system samples those peptides,
- 3:04and then the immune response against
- 3:06those collagen peptides, as well as the
- 3:07body's own collagen, is reduced, and
- 3:10therefore the body is breaking down less
- 3:12of its own collagen. Either way, we can
- 3:14see robust benefits by taking collagen
- 3:16peptide supplements. So, what should we
- 3:18be looking for when selecting a brand?
- 3:20The first thing to know is that there's
- 3:22actually 28 different types of collagen
- 3:24in the body. So, you'll often see
- 3:26collagen brands mentioning the different
- 3:28types of collagen that they've got.
- 3:29Remember, though, the long rope of
- 3:31collagen is broken down into smaller
- 3:32peptides. So, there's no human evidence
- 3:35to suggest that the original type of
- 3:36collagen actually matters. Again,
- 3:39because it's all broken down, it's
- 3:40chopped up into those smaller peptides.
- 3:43So, when I choose a brand, I don't care
- 3:45about the original type of collagen.
- 3:47What matters is that it's peptides or
- 3:49hydrolyzed. Then, I want to make sure
- 3:51that the product is pure, that it's
- 3:52third-party tested, and finally, I want
- 3:55the cheapest price. So, the brand that I
- 3:57use is called Do Not Age, and that's
- 3:59because the product is pure, and it's
- 4:01for the cheapest price compared to the
- 4:02other brands on Amazon. Plus, there's a
- 4:0510% affiliate discount code in the
- 4:07pinned comment. Do Not Age also donated
- 4:09$10,000 towards my rapamycin clinical
- 4:12study, and make sure to check out the
- 4:14next video here, where a new study shows
- 4:16that multivitamins slowed brain aging by
- 4:18a whopping 60%.
