New ChatGPT Feature Designed My House!! — Transcript
Full transcript
- 0:00So ChatGPT image model has been pretty interesting lately,
- 0:03starting all the way from generating Ghibli style cartoon all the way
- 0:07to generating full fledged perspective rendering just from a floor plan.
- 0:11Now this starts to beg the question can ChatGPT design interiors for me?
- 0:16and I happen to have a perfect specimen to put this theory to test.
- 0:20My partner and I recently acquired a property
- 0:23that requires a bit of renovation before we move in.
- 0:26So we're going to be using ChatGPT to design the interior style
- 0:30for various rooms throughout the house.
- 0:32And in this video, I'm going to show you the prompts that I found
- 0:35that's very useful for this exercise, and also share how you can scale this
- 0:40to rapidly generate different iterations and compare them at the record speed.
- 0:45So hope you're excited!
- 0:46Let's get started.
- 0:47Okay, so here
- 0:48we are on ChatGPT and we're going to add in some images to get started.
- 0:53So the first space I want to explore is the living room.
- 0:56So I'm going to go ahead and drop in an image.
- 0:58So just so you understand the current condition,
- 1:00this is what the living room looks like at the moment.
- 1:03There isn't like a unifying style or anything like that
- 1:07There are three different types of chairs in the scene, and none of them
- 1:12really jives with the space or other pieces of furniture around the room.
- 1:17So my goal here
- 1:18is to come up with a vision that is like really well designed to route
- 1:22and has a very consistent design language So let's see what ChatGPT can do.
- 1:27Okay. And here's the prompt that we're going to be using.
- 1:30So after testing a little bit, this is the best prompt I got so far.
- 1:33So I'm first assigning the role of an interior designer to ChatGPT.
- 1:38And giving some additional instructions on top of that.
- 1:41So one of them is not making any structural changes
- 1:45because in this example, all I'm really trying to do is just remodel the interior.
- 1:49I can't physically change like the ceiling height or the location of the windows.
- 1:54So I'll be asking ChatGPT to keep those exactly the same.
- 1:58And I want to apply Scandinavian interior design style.
- 2:03So right now I'm not even sure what kind of style this is,
- 2:07but this is what it looks like right now.
- 2:09And I want this to be more modern and Scandinavian.
- 2:13So let's see what that does.
- 2:17I'll fast forward this part so that you don't have to wait,
- 2:20but I find that this takes about a minute or two, depending on the load on ChatGPT.
- 2:25Okay, here we have it.
- 2:27So it's actually looking pretty good.
- 2:29I can see that most of the room structure is pretty much the same.
- 2:32I see that there is some distortion in terms of the dimensions.
- 2:35So, for example, the room looks a little bit shorter than before.
- 2:39But aside from that, the location of the window is about the same.
- 2:43And I see that the wall still here In terms of the quality.
- 2:47If you are an interior designer,
- 2:49you probably don't want to present this to your client.
- 2:52But as a homeowner who wants to do some DIY, or hire contractor directly.
- 2:58I think this could be a really useful exercise.
- 3:01So I can see that one of the sofas have been removed and instead it's
- 3:05been replaced with this little armchair that's really nice.
- 3:08And all the furniture and the floor type all looks very Scandinavian.
- 3:12I like that, that's pretty cool.
- 3:14And they went ahead and added this little picture frames here, there.
- 3:19And yeah, it's actually pretty cool.
- 3:21I think this is the type of space I would really enjoy.
- 3:24And I also really appreciate that they've maintained the wooden wall over here,
- 3:27because that is not something that I was planning to remodel.
- 3:30So that's perfect.
- 3:32Okay.
- 3:32So let's move on to the next big space.
- 3:35So I'm also curious how ChatGPT will handle the kitchen area as well.
- 3:40So the current kitchen setup is looking like this.
- 3:42It's a bit of a mess.
- 3:44Like all the cabinet trees are pretty outdated
- 3:46and I'm not really a big fan of this, current style.
- 3:50Like these dark wood cabinets and the floor pattern.
- 3:54Obviously
- 3:55it's not something that I want to keep, so I'm looking for some alternatives
- 3:59and what this space might look like in a Scandinavian, interior design style.
- 4:04And on top of that, I'm hoping that the I will also
- 4:07go ahead and remove some of the clutter that's scattered all over the house.
- 4:11So let's see how that goes.
- 4:14I I will also add a little timer
- 4:16so that you can see exactly how long it's taking.
- 4:24Okay.
- 4:25There we have it.
- 4:26It took a little while,
- 4:27maybe almost two minutes, but the result is looking pretty good.
- 4:31I like how chugged, maintained the overall structure of the room.
- 4:36So, as you can see, we have this L-shaped kitchen counter over here.
- 4:39And the location of the appliances are the same as well.
- 4:42So the fridge over there, dishwasher and all that.
- 4:45It's looking really good.
- 4:47I think the number of the cabinet bays have changed a little bit,
- 4:51and it doesn't extend all the way.
- 4:52But honestly, like, I'm pretty okay with this.
- 4:56I'm just looking for
- 4:57like an overall look and feel and whether I want to proceed in this direction.
- 5:00So as like a homeowner, I can just probably hand this off to the contractor
- 5:05and then let
- 5:05them figure out the exact dimensions and construct ability of this space.
- 5:09So this could be a really useful tool for those working
- 5:13without like a professional interior designer
- 5:15it might be really good for small projects like these.
- 5:18Definitely won't recommend for like a new build.
- 5:20You probably can't use this for like, you know, a construction project.
- 5:23But yes, definitely a really sweet tool to play with.
- 5:26now I want to repeat this process for many different rooms.
- 5:30I want to try this in the bedroom.
- 5:31I want to try this in the bathroom as well as the hallway,
- 5:34But as you can see, if you have many rooms to go through it,
- 5:38this might take a little bit of time,
- 5:40especially since each image takes about two minutes.
- 5:43And if you want to go through like ten images, that's like almost like 30 minutes
- 5:47out of your life.
- 5:48So that was one of the pain points I felt as I was working on this little project.
- 5:54And that's why I created this little tool, just mostly for myself.
- 5:58But I figured maybe someone who is watching this might find it useful.
- 6:02So I will also make this available.
- 6:05Okay, so if you want to try this you can head over to Image interior.com
- 6:09and go over to the stylize option.
- 6:12I'm also planning
- 6:13to add some more, features down the road, so make sure to keep an eye out.
- 6:17It's a very simple website.
- 6:18There's really not much going on.
- 6:20The only feature that's really available is the stylize option,
- 6:23which is basically what I was doing just now.
- 6:26So I'm going to go ahead and drop in some image that we just saw.
- 6:29So Now what's cool is that you can select multiple images at once.
- 6:33So this is really helpful for bulk editing.
- 6:36So I'm going to do that.
- 6:37But that this bedroom as well.
- 6:41And So I'm going to go ahead and open up all these images.
- 6:44These are a total of five images.
- 6:47And I also find that specifying the room type works pretty well usually.
- 6:51So I'm going to go ahead and do that.
- 6:54But I don't find that this is completely required.
- 6:57So once you have added all your images you can go over to the next one.
- 7:02And in terms of the style, there are a few
- 7:05predefined styles that I've added.
- 7:07And if you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments as well.
- 7:10But if you want to, provide your own instruction and just ignore
- 7:14the style tab, you can just choose custom and write something here as well.
- 7:19But for now, I'm just going to go ahead
- 7:20and go with Scandinavian because that's what I was doing earlier.
- 7:24So once the style is ready, you can just go ahead and generate the results.
- 7:31And I also want to demonstrate how quick this is.
- 7:33So I find that this is a little bit faster than using ChatGPT.
- 7:38So let's see how long it takes.
- 7:43And we're generating a total of five images.
- 7:45So let's say if we took like, you know, two minutes per image,
- 7:50this task would have taken ten minutes on ChatGPT.
- 7:55And boom. Wow.
- 7:57So as you can see it took around like 30s.
- 7:59And it has generated all these images
- 8:02without you even having to type any instructions.
- 8:05And you are pretty much free to download
- 8:08these images to your desktop completely for free
- 8:13and we also keep track of all the images that you had generated thus far.
- 8:17So you can always go back and review them.
- 8:20And one of the reasons why I created this is
- 8:22because this makes it really easy for me to test out different styles.
- 8:26So for example, I go into stylize and I can change this to, let's say,
- 8:30mid-century modern and repeat the whole process in bulk, just like that.
- 8:35And we can also
- 8:38try timing this as well.
- 8:42Okay. There you go.
- 8:43Around 30s again.
- 8:45Oh, yeah.
- 8:45And we also keep track
- 8:46of the exact amount of time it took to generate each image.
- 8:49So you can really compare the performance differences
- 8:54and. Yeah, and this also makes me
- 8:56makes it really easy for me to compare the two styles just like that.
- 8:59So I really appreciate this.
- 9:03But yeah.
- 9:03If you have any other suggestions, I'm also more than happy to add them here.
- 9:08So my goal right now is to make this tool available to as many people as possible,
- 9:13so it would be free to use when you first get into it.
- 9:15at birth, because running these models do cost a little bit of money,
- 9:19it'll require a bit of payment down the road.
- 9:22I think there are plenty of new use cases to be found out there, but personally,
- 9:26I found this to be very useful when I'm trying to brainstorm
- 9:29for different interior design styles for the property that I'm renovating.
- 9:34Even though the measurements aren't accurate, I think being able to get
- 9:37that look and feel for the spaces really gives me
- 9:40a confidence as to which direction I should be moving towards.
- 9:43And it makes it really easy for me to communicate with the contractors.
- 9:47Now, for professionals such as architects or interior designers, the images
- 9:52that are coming out of these tools may not be ready for clients.
- 9:55However, I think it might actually be interesting to share this tool
- 9:59with the clients so that they can do some explorations on their own.
- 10:03Because I find that a lot of nonprofessional clients
- 10:06don't exactly know what they want when they come to you.
- 10:09And it might be really good for them to do some self-exploration
- 10:13on their own time without having to use up your billable hours.
- 10:16This will make the communications a lot more smooth,
- 10:19and also make your services more affordable for the clients.
- 10:22Now, if you like to learn about more use cases to use ChatGPT in interior design
- 10:27and architecture purposes, check out the recommended video and playlist.
- 10:31So overall, what do you guys think?
- 10:33Do you think I can design interiors for you?
- 10:36Or is it something that will never happen in the future?
- 10:39Let me know in the comments because I'm really curious about what you think.
- 10:42So with that,
- 10:43thank you so much for tuning in and I'll see you guys in the next one.
- 10:47Bye now.
