  1. 0:00What if there is more to your capacity
  2. 0:01[music] to create miracles than you've
  3. 0:03been taught to believe? And the place to
  4. 0:05begin understanding it is your own
  5. 0:06brain. And if you've ever experienced a
  6. 0:08coincidence that felt too precise to be
  7. 0:11random, or you watch something that you
  8. 0:12thought was impossible suddenly become
  9. 0:14possible, you've probably wondered, "How
  10. 0:16did this happen?" So, in this episode,
  11. 0:19we're going to explore miracles through
  12. 0:20the lens of neuroscience, what we know
  13. 0:22about the brain, how it shapes our
  14. 0:24experience, and whether we can develop a
  15. 0:26greater capacity to invite the [music]
  16. 0:28extraordinary into our own lives. So,
  17. 0:30let's get into it.
  18. 0:35All right, guys. I think it's
  19. 0:35appropriate to start this conversation a
  20. 0:37couple of thousand years ago. There was
  21. 0:39a guy, supposedly, by the name of Jesus
  22. 0:41Christ, who was documented as having
  23. 0:44performed miracles. He healed the sick.
  24. 0:47He was able to feed 5,000 people from a
  25. 0:49loaf of bread and a single fish. He was
  26. 0:52able to know his own future. He walked
  27. 0:54on water. He raised himself from the
  28. 0:56dead. He defied material reality. So,
  29. 1:00one important question is, how did he
  30. 1:02perform these miracles? And then on top
  31. 1:04of that, why were we told by him that we
  32. 1:09would perform miracles even greater than
  33. 1:11he did? I think this is a question worth
  34. 1:14exploring. I hear a lot in the Christian
  35. 1:17world about Christ, a lot about him
  36. 1:19dying for our sins, but I don't hear a
  37. 1:21lot of conversations around this kind of
  38. 1:23one-liner he dropped in the middle of
  39. 1:25his gospel, which was, "Oh, you can
  40. 1:27actually do things greater than I am
  41. 1:30showing you you can do." Can you imagine
  42. 1:33for a moment if you could develop a
  43. 1:35practice to build mastery around
  44. 1:38intentional miracle making. Now, these
  45. 1:41documented miracles were not exclusive
  46. 1:43to Christ. There were other saints, from
  47. 1:45Mother Teresa to Pope St. John Paul II,
  48. 1:48to yogis from the East that have all
  49. 1:50been documented. And as I started
  50. 1:52exploring miracle making, cuz I I like
  51. 1:55to intentionally manifest and create
  52. 1:57miracles in my own life. What really
  53. 1:59challenged my thinking was a book called
  54. 2:02Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa
  55. 2:04Yogananda. Okay, this is one of the
  56. 2:06books that had a great influence on my
  57. 2:08spiritual development. Paramahansa
  58. 2:09Yogananda was a saint who lived most of
  59. 2:11his life in the 20th century. So, what's
  60. 2:13interesting about this is this is not
  61. 2:15thousands of years ago, right? This is
  62. 2:17from less than 100 years ago. He wrote
  63. 2:19his own autobiography and in it he talks
  64. 2:22about looking for his guru. And as he
  65. 2:25was looking for his teacher, he ran into
  66. 2:28a bunch of other gurus who lived in the
  67. 2:29Himalayas and in really remote places
  68. 2:32who had developed the capacity to do
  69. 2:33things like levitate or to be in two
  70. 2:36places at once, to move things with
  71. 2:39their mind, telekinesis, right? To
  72. 2:41manipulate just as Christ is documented
  73. 2:43to have done
  74. 2:45material reality. In fact, his teacher
  75. 2:47Sri Yukteswar
  76. 2:49does a couple of things over the course
  77. 2:51of Yogananda's autobiography. One is he
  78. 2:54manipulates the weather in order to make
  79. 2:56it nice weather for an event that was
  80. 2:58particularly important to him. And
  81. 2:59there's actually an interesting story
  82. 3:01where he's able to influence, basically
  83. 3:03mind control a wandering peasant to
  84. 3:05teach Yogananda a lesson by sneaking
  85. 3:08into Yogananda's uh dorm room and
  86. 3:10stealing his cabbages. So, C.S. Lewis
  87. 3:13has this thing around Christ that he
  88. 3:15calls liar, lunatic, lord. And he
  89. 3:17basically says like, "Look, you have to
  90. 3:19make a decision, right? Do you Do you
  91. 3:21think Jesus Christ was a liar? Do you
  92. 3:24think he was crazy or do you think he
  93. 3:26was who he says he was?" And I think the
  94. 3:28same thing applies to Yogananda. And I
  95. 3:30don't think he was lying and I don't
  96. 3:32think he was crazy. I think he was
  97. 3:34actually witnessing what he claims he
  98. 3:36was witnessing.
  99. 3:38So, let's unpack this for a little bit.
  100. 3:40How might it be possible to manipulate
  101. 3:43the material world? And what is the
  102. 3:45influencing mechanism that is inside of
  103. 3:48us that does the influencing? Uh for
  104. 3:49this, I'd like to turn to something
  105. 3:51Einstein once said, which is reality is
  106. 3:53an illusion, albeit a persistent one.
  107. 3:55And what he meant is the reality is not
  108. 3:58how it represents itself. The physical
  109. 4:00world, the material reality, uh is
  110. 4:03interpreted by our five senses. And
  111. 4:05science tells us this, neuroscience
  112. 4:07tells us this. What we're experiencing
  113. 4:08is not what is actually there. And a way
  114. 4:11to think about this is we experience a
  115. 4:13very physical, sensory, fixed, material
  116. 4:17reality, but it's actually much more
  117. 4:19vibrational. Like if we, you know, look
  118. 4:22at any physical thing in the world, the
  119. 4:24device that you're listening to this
  120. 4:25episode on, it's made up of uh
  121. 4:27molecules. Those molecules are made up
  122. 4:29of atoms. Those atoms have parts, like
  123. 4:31the nucleus of an atom with neutrons and
  124. 4:33protons and electrons that are orbiting
  125. 4:36around this nucleus. But as we continue
  126. 4:38to look at the smaller and smaller and
  127. 4:39smaller smaller pieces, we start moving
  128. 4:41into, let's describe it as the quantum
  129. 4:43world. And what we see is that what is
  130. 4:46actually there is not always there.
  131. 4:48There's a probability of the material
  132. 4:50reality being there. It's a little bit
  133. 4:52more like a shimmering, fluctuating
  134. 4:54field of energy that our five senses
  135. 4:56interpret into what we see or what we
  136. 4:59hear or what we smell. Now, human being,
  137. 5:02more specifically the brain and the
  138. 5:04nervous system,
  139. 5:05is constantly vibrating. So, you are an
  140. 5:08electrical, mechanical organism
  141. 5:11that is putting off a frequency. It's
  142. 5:13transmitting a frequency, just like a
  143. 5:15light bulb transmits light or a coil
  144. 5:18might transmit some sort of frequency or
  145. 5:20vibration. We're constantly vibing.
  146. 5:23And [snorts] so, how do we vibe? We vibe
  147. 5:25according to how we think and how we
  148. 5:27feel. Your thoughts and your emotions
  149. 5:29are vibrational phenomenon that occur
  150. 5:31within your nervous system,
  151. 5:33and that has an interaction or an impact
  152. 5:36on this vibrational reality around us.
  153. 5:40We begin to calibrate the reality around
  154. 5:43us through our presence, through our
  155. 5:45state of being, which is the collective
  156. 5:47sum total of what we believe, of what we
  157. 5:49think, and what we feel. That's our
  158. 5:51transmission. And so, on one level, this
  159. 5:55is how we create coincidences and
  160. 5:57synchronicities. This is how when you
  161. 5:59think about somebody, they have a
  162. 6:01subconscious impulse to call you.
  163. 6:05Or you think about somebody and over
  164. 6:08there in their own reality, they've had
  165. 6:09a series of subconscious decisions that
  166. 6:11they've made so that they arrive at the
  167. 6:13same restaurant or grocery store that
  168. 6:14you're at and you run into them.
  169. 6:16Or this is how a desperately needed
  170. 6:18resource. I'm sure there's been a time
  171. 6:20in your life where like you needed a
  172. 6:21thing really, really bad and the thing
  173. 6:22shows up. That's because we are all a
  174. 6:25part of and connected to this field of
  175. 6:27consciousness or this field of vibration
  176. 6:29and we are sending out a communication
  177. 6:31across this field and it is being
  178. 6:32received by everyone and everything that
  179. 6:36is also the field and the field is
  180. 6:37responding and you are also responding
  181. 6:39at subconscious levels to other people's
  182. 6:42influence and so you are all part of the
  183. 6:44rendezvous and synchronicities that they
  184. 6:46create in their life. You know, years
  185. 6:47ago and I've talked about this on other
  186. 6:49episodes, I was at a
  187. 6:51speaker training for the world's
  188. 6:53greatest inspirational speaker, a guy by
  189. 6:55the name of Les Brown, and I tell the
  190. 6:57story of how one morning I was really
  191. 7:00stressed out and I was looking for
  192. 7:02something to uplift my spirits and I
  193. 7:04found some daily Bible quotes and I
  194. 7:06thought to myself, you know, wouldn't it
  195. 7:08be nice if there was a way that based on
  196. 7:09how I was feeling, stressed, anxious,
  197. 7:11overwhelmed, I could find a
  198. 7:12corresponding Bible verse to lift up my
  199. 7:14spirits. And I'm at this training and
  200. 7:16Les Brown is telling the story. It's my
  201. 7:19favorite story that he tells and at the
  202. 7:20end of the story, he reaches into the
  203. 7:22nightstand and he grabs a Gideon's
  204. 7:23Bible. But I had no idea what a Gideon's
  205. 7:25Bible was.
  206. 7:27Well, on the way home, on a 3-hour trip
  207. 7:29back to my house,
  208. 7:31I end up blowing out a tire on my car,
  209. 7:34rolling into a gas station. I'm waiting
  210. 7:36for AAA to come and change my tire and
  211. 7:39an older gentleman walks over to me,
  212. 7:41mistaking my identity, starting a
  213. 7:43conversation with me. And as he walks
  214. 7:44away, he says, "By the way, do you own a
  215. 7:46Gideon's Bible?" I said, "No, I don't."
  216. 7:49And he said, "Well, that's not why I
  217. 7:50walked over here, but I just have an
  218. 7:52inspiration to give you one." So, he
  219. 7:54walks back to his car, he comes back, he
  220. 7:55hands me a Gideon's Bible, and I says,
  221. 7:57"Do you know how this Gideon's Bible
  222. 7:59works?" It was a little small pocket
  223. 8:00Bible, and I said, "No, I don't." And he
  224. 8:02said, "Well,
  225. 8:03it's got a table of contents. And so,
  226. 8:05depending on how you're feeling,
  227. 8:06stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, you can
  228. 8:08find a corresponding verse in the Bible
  229. 8:10to uplift your spirits." That was a
  230. 8:11miracle.
  231. 8:13Right? I don't know how the miracle was
  232. 8:14created, but when I actually look back,
  233. 8:17part of that miracle making was me
  234. 8:20saying, "Hey, wouldn't it be nice
  235. 8:23if there was this thing?" And it was
  236. 8:25already in my awareness without me
  237. 8:26knowing about it, because it was part of
  238. 8:28my the favorite story that Les Brown
  239. 8:30tells that I got to hear in person.
  240. 8:33And then, through a series of man,
  241. 8:35probably hundreds of coincidences,
  242. 8:38this thing that I had asked for shows up
  243. 8:40in my hand. So, how did that happen?
  244. 8:43Through frequency, through transmission,
  245. 8:45through
  246. 8:46um emotions, through subconscious
  247. 8:48influence of both myself and other
  248. 8:50people and this gentleman.
  249. 8:52And by also being non-resistant to it.
  250. 8:55This was not a thing where I'm like, "Oh
  251. 8:57man, I wish I really had this thing."
  252. 8:58And so, it turned from a want into a
  253. 9:00need. It was like a wouldn't it be nice?
  254. 9:04And it showed up. So, if we really look
  255. 9:06at what's happening there,
  256. 9:08my thoughts, my emotions, my decisions,
  257. 9:11my perception, my nervous system
  258. 9:13was the portal for a miracle happening.
  259. 9:17Now, let's take this a step further,
  260. 9:18because yeah, it's one thing to have an
  261. 9:20amazing story that defies all logic and
  262. 9:24rationale as to how this thing that was
  263. 9:26already in my awareness that Les Brown
  264. 9:28was speaking about, that I had a
  265. 9:29subconscious desire for, showed up at a
  266. 9:31gas station hours later.
  267. 9:34That's a little little different than
  268. 9:35walking on water and raising the dead,
  269. 9:37don't you think?
  270. 9:38So, let's take this a little bit
  271. 9:39further. What if you could develop the
  272. 9:41capacity
  273. 9:43to actually stop all thought?
  274. 9:46Right? To prevent your senses
  275. 9:49from even interpreting reality
  276. 9:52so that you didn't buy into reality in
  277. 9:56the way that the brain is enrolling us
  278. 9:57into reality. I'm going to repeat that.
  279. 9:59What if there was a way that you could
  280. 10:01actually pause and insert yourself
  281. 10:05in between
  282. 10:06the interpretation of this fluctuating
  283. 10:09field, which is what your brain does to
  284. 10:10keep you grounded in reality,
  285. 10:13and
  286. 10:14that vibrational
  287. 10:16field of potential itself. What if you
  288. 10:18could go I'm not even sure I buy into
  289. 10:22what my senses
  290. 10:23are telling me. Even in the microsecond
  291. 10:25that it takes to translate reality
  292. 10:27through your senses. To slow down so
  293. 10:29much
  294. 10:31that you can actually see behind the
  295. 10:33manifested illusion. Remember Neo in The
  296. 10:36Matrix?
  297. 10:37Like there were times where he could see
  298. 10:38all the zeros and ones.
  299. 10:40Is it possible that people like Christ
  300. 10:42and the saints and the yogis
  301. 10:45could develop themselves in such a way
  302. 10:47that they could actually
  303. 10:49have an opinion about whether or not
  304. 10:50they agree on the material reality, and
  305. 10:53then insert their influence at the field
  306. 10:56level to manipulate the physical
  307. 10:57reality. That's the question. Now,
  308. 10:59what's interesting
  309. 11:00is Yogananda
  310. 11:02taught a practice called Kriya Yoga
  311. 11:05that was designed to slow your thoughts
  312. 11:08down so much and to withdraw your senses
  313. 11:12from the physical reality that you could
  314. 11:13accomplish exactly this. What I'm saying
  315. 11:16is is what I'm suggesting might be
  316. 11:18possible is exactly the practice that
  317. 11:21Yogananda taught through the Kriya Yoga.
  318. 11:23This was the ancient secret of the
  319. 11:25yogis. It had to be passed down from
  320. 11:28yogi to yogi to yogi. And what was so
  321. 11:30special about Paramahansa Yogananda was
  322. 11:32he actually introduced this practice to
  323. 11:34the West. Now, we know as we study
  324. 11:37Christ, he was involved in some sort of
  325. 11:40practice like this, too. Christ would
  326. 11:43withdraw and develop himself. You know,
  327. 11:46we don't really know what happened
  328. 11:48between Christ as baby Christ and the
  329. 11:52Jesus, right? The Christ who showed up
  330. 11:54at 33 years of age. I don't think it's
  331. 11:56an unrealistic assumption to say
  332. 11:58somewhere along the way he developed a
  333. 12:01practice and it would not be surprising
  334. 12:03if the practice that he developed was
  335. 12:05the same practice that allowed Yogananda
  336. 12:07and all of the yogis to perform miracles
  337. 12:10and that is that they could control
  338. 12:11their minds in such a way that they
  339. 12:14effectively no longer bought into or
  340. 12:17reacted to the material reality, but
  341. 12:20instead they could imagine reality
  342. 12:24and could broadcast their intention and
  343. 12:27their vision
  344. 12:28for what was so powerfully and
  345. 12:31unwaveringly that reality conformed to
  346. 12:34their intention. You don't have to look
  347. 12:36really far to see that Christ was
  348. 12:40guiding us in this direction. In fact,
  349. 12:41he was pretty explicit about it. If you
  350. 12:43just read what he said, "Be not
  351. 12:46conformed to this world, but be
  352. 12:49transformed
  353. 12:51by the renewing of your mind." It's
  354. 12:53right there.
  355. 12:54It's It's in the instruction book.
  356. 12:57So,
  357. 12:58let's look at what happens to us. We are
  358. 13:00born into a fixed reality. There is a
  359. 13:03collective reality created by all of us,
  360. 13:06the collective consciousness,
  361. 13:09and from birth, we become trained into
  362. 13:11that reality. We
  363. 13:14have senses
  364. 13:15as children, but our senses are also
  365. 13:18informed. We're told by everyone else
  366. 13:20around us what is,
  367. 13:22and that starts to develop a mechanism
  368. 13:25in the brain that locks us into a fixed
  369. 13:28and agreed to reality. Okay, I'm going
  370. 13:30to get into this in a second. It's
  371. 13:31called the default mode network. It's
  372. 13:33essentially a series of structures in
  373. 13:35your brain that hold together our
  374. 13:38perception of reality and hold together
  375. 13:40our personality so that we can be
  376. 13:42grounded into something. But the
  377. 13:44grounding
  378. 13:46into this reality is also an
  379. 13:49indoctrination and a domestication. We
  380. 13:51buy into what other people believe. And
  381. 13:54we can even see this with
  382. 13:55transgenerational belief systems.
  383. 13:57Usually, what money is for you is what
  384. 14:00money was growing up for you, which is
  385. 14:02what money was for your parents. What
  386. 14:04relationships are for you is what
  387. 14:06relationships were when you were growing
  388. 14:08up, which is how relationships were for
  389. 14:11your parents. But as we heal,
  390. 14:13we change our brains, right? We start to
  391. 14:16transform these limiting beliefs. We
  392. 14:18metabolize our traumas, right? And the
  393. 14:21good news is the brain is neuroplastic.
  394. 14:23So, the brain can be retrained. So, we
  395. 14:25re- Well, I feel like I'm yelling at you
  396. 14:27right now. I'm not yelling at you. I'm
  397. 14:28just very, very excited. We rewire a
  398. 14:31belief around money being hard to make,
  399. 14:34and we build a new belief around money
  400. 14:36or life being abundant. And the
  401. 14:38byproduct of that change, right? That
  402. 14:42rewiring is a reality of wealth and
  403. 14:46financial opportunity and financial
  404. 14:47abundance. And so, let's just hop a rail
  405. 14:50here for a second. When people engage in
  406. 14:52ceremonial healing work, I'm going to
  407. 14:54use ayahuasca here as an example,
  408. 14:57but uh could be a lot of things that are
  409. 14:59referred to as like psychedelic work,
  410. 15:01right? Psilocybin, LSD, MDMA therapy,
  411. 15:04ketamine, whatever. I'm going to use
  412. 15:05ayahuasca here cuz it's the best
  413. 15:07example. If you're not familiar, it's a
  414. 15:09a ceremonial tea experience that has
  415. 15:12been around for thousands of years that
  416. 15:14came out of indigenous healing work
  417. 15:17in the Central and South Americas. So,
  418. 15:18you take this tea, and what happens is
  419. 15:20there's an activation of a chemical
  420. 15:22called DMT. Okay, so when DMT becomes
  421. 15:26active in the body, people experience
  422. 15:29what are referred to as a hallucination
  423. 15:31or a hallucinatory experience. There's
  424. 15:33another word for it called entheogenic,
  425. 15:34which is actually a better word. It
  426. 15:36means other than ordinary experience.
  427. 15:38Because when we use the word
  428. 15:39hallucinations,
  429. 15:41it sort of implies that like what
  430. 15:43someone's experiencing is not real. But
  431. 15:44is that true? So, science tells us that
  432. 15:48during DMT activation, right, in an
  433. 15:50ayahuasca ceremony or if you take DMT
  434. 15:52directly or if you activate DMT in your
  435. 15:54body through extended transformational
  436. 15:56breath work,
  437. 15:58a series of systems in the brain, which
  438. 16:00are referred to as the default mode
  439. 16:01network, are temporarily shut down.
  440. 16:03Right, effectively the systems of the
  441. 16:05brain that hold conscious reality
  442. 16:07together and your personality together
  443. 16:09that have been reinforced since birth
  444. 16:11get turned off. And when they do, the
  445. 16:14byproduct of that is people experience
  446. 16:16an altered reality. All kinds of
  447. 16:18different things, from speaking to
  448. 16:19deceased loved ones to having
  449. 16:20conversations with God to seeing their
  450. 16:22future. The question is, is this a
  451. 16:24hallucination or is it a filter coming
  452. 16:27down to experience something that is
  453. 16:29equally real as our current reality, but
  454. 16:31not normally perceived when the default
  455. 16:34mode network is on? Question is again,
  456. 16:36is this a hallucination or is it the
  457. 16:38byproduct of the neurological filters
  458. 16:40that structure our perception of reality
  459. 16:42going offline for a little while? Okay?
  460. 16:45So, I want to take this one step
  461. 16:46further. Reality is an illusion, albeit
  462. 16:48a persistent one. What if you could
  463. 16:50disbelieve in reality so strongly
  464. 16:54that you could take down these filters
  465. 16:56on your own? You didn't need ayahuasca,
  466. 16:58right, you could just disbelieve in
  467. 17:00reality by learning how to withdraw your
  468. 17:02senses that are addicted to reality,
  469. 17:04and to be able to choose reality. What
  470. 17:06if you could disbelieve as well in
  471. 17:09someone else's
  472. 17:11reality, someone's illness, and believe
  473. 17:13in their well-being so much in such a
  474. 17:16determined way that your perspective
  475. 17:18overcame their belief in their illness
  476. 17:19and the byproduct of that was instant
  477. 17:21healing. Is this how Christ performed
  478. 17:24miracles? He disbelieved in the reality
  479. 17:26that was so much more than someone's
  480. 17:29belief in the reality that was that his
  481. 17:31reality became the predominant reality
  482. 17:34and the material reality changed for
  483. 17:36everyone around him. The byproduct of
  484. 17:38which in this case was healing. Note
  485. 17:40that Christ asked
  486. 17:42in almost every instance, "Do you
  487. 17:44believe in me?"
  488. 17:46And when they said, "Yes, I believe in
  489. 17:48you." His commands were simple.
  490. 17:50"Get up and walk." He raised Lazarus
  491. 17:53from the dead. What did he say? "Come
  492. 17:54forth, Lazarus."
  493. 17:56Simple commands that commanded reality.
  494. 17:59Very much like God in Genesis, right?
  495. 18:01Let there be light and there was.
  496. 18:04So, miracles, perhaps, are a byproduct
  497. 18:08of unbroken conviction. Does that mean
  498. 18:11that you can fly?
  499. 18:13I don't know. Ask the yogis who were
  500. 18:15witnessed to have levitated, right? Now,
  501. 18:18you say, "All right, Dave, that's fine,
  502. 18:19but why don't they do it publicly?"
  503. 18:20You'd have to ask the yogis or the
  504. 18:22saints or whoever's performing miracles,
  505. 18:24but maybe it is because other people's
  506. 18:27doubt
  507. 18:28can influence their ability to perform.
  508. 18:30Maybe if Christ said to somebody, "Do
  509. 18:31you believe?" And they said, "No." And
  510. 18:33he'd be like, "Well, I can't help you."
  511. 18:34But because you do believe and you're
  512. 18:35open to it, I can come in
  513. 18:38with my superconsciousness and
  514. 18:40manipulate reality, right? Perhaps
  515. 18:42that's what made Christ the greatest
  516. 18:43miracle maker of all. Is his public
  517. 18:45spectacle, right? In any case,
  518. 18:48whether we're talking about walking on
  519. 18:49water or miracle healings or the miracle
  520. 18:51of transforming your life
  521. 18:53from one of scarcity and striving to one
  522. 18:55of abundance and ease, it is clear we
  523. 18:57have a significant influence on our
  524. 18:59reality. It's clear that when we change
  525. 19:02our mind, we change our brains. And as
  526. 19:04we do that, neuroplasticity reorganizes
  527. 19:07our nervous system and it is a fact that
  528. 19:10our brain and our nervous system are
  529. 19:12vibrationally interactive with the
  530. 19:13reality around us, right? None of this
  531. 19:15is new age or requires a leap of faith.
  532. 19:18That's why I say
  533. 19:20your nervous system is a portal to
  534. 19:22miracles, right? The only question is,
  535. 19:24what's your limit? And my offering to
  536. 19:27you is that there may be no limit at all
  537. 19:31if you decide to take up the challenge.
  538. 19:33You may create miracles even greater
  539. 19:35than the greatest miracle maker of all
  540. 19:36time. But what do I know? That's just
  541. 19:38what I think and I want to know what you
